Electric cars have a lot of promise in future energy markets as a manageable load. A popular vehicle-to-grid control interface, which enables the aggregation of the charging mechanism for energy management in the distribution grid, is one of the most significant road blocks to realize this opportunity. Understanding the ecology of electric transportation and integrating it in local communities to alleviate the energy shortage at peak hours is very complicated. In this research paper, recent standardization initiatives aimed at overcoming obstacles such as the integration of electric cars into smart grids are discussed. A charge control scheme focused on vehicle-to-grid connectivity is implemented. It is observed that the rise of environmentally sustainable energy sources, such as photovoltaic (PV) and wind energy, is straining the power network and their infrequent power generation is causing problems in power system operation, regulation and planning. The introduction of electric vehicles (EVs) into the electricity grid has been proposed to overcome grid load variations. Finally, the article discusses the incorporation of renewable energy sources and latest potential solutions involving electric vehicles.

Chalcone synthase (CHS) is the pivotal enzyme that catalyzes the first committed step of the phenylpropanoid pathway leading to flavonoids. Herein, we identified twenty-seven OsCHS genes from the rice genome database. The bioinformatics analysis, including conserved motif, domain, interactive proteins, gene ontology (GO), target micro RNAs (miRNA) prediction, and the OsCHS physiochemical properties, highlight the key aspects of OsCHS genes in Oryza sativa L. The OsCHS proteins' phylogeny was further clustered into 4 sub-groups (Group I- Group IV) based on the structural similarities and functional diversities. The GO analysis of OsCHS proteins showed they are highly stress-responsive (biotic/abiotic) and involved in various growth and developmental processes. The microarray expression analysis showed transcription in twelve rice tissues, and the differential expression pattern of OsCHS genes revealed their possible involvement against salinity and drought. The higher expression of OsCHS15 in the OsWRKY65-OE line indicates its potential in hormonal-mediated stress response. The predicted miRNA that includes miR2260, miR167, miR11337, and miR2232 families further the engagement of OsCHS genes in the post-translational regulation of rice growth and stress-responsive. Owing to the above-mentioned outcomes, we speculate that OsCHS genes in the O. sativa genome play an essential role not only in growth and development but also in fine-tuning the immune responses to various environmental stresses and provide major indications for further functional studies.

Despite the growing body of literature, the role of CHS genes in cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) remains elusive. Herein, we identified 4 CsCHS genes from the cucumber genome database. The evolutionary relationship, gene structure, conserved motifs, proteins interaction and chemical properties highlight the key aspects of CsCHS genes in cucumbers. Evolutionary tree analysis reveals that the CsCHS family is divided into four clades. Moreover, the Gene Ontology (GO) analysis showed that CsCHS genes regulate plant growth and response to various environmental stimuli. Microarray expression data showed that CsCHS genes were expressed in almost all the tested tissues. Additionally, the differential expression patterns of the CsCHS genes were found under salinity stress and hormonal treatments. The qRT-PCR analysis of CsCHS genes under aphid infestation revealed they are key components of plant defense against insect pests. Under waterlogging stress, only the CsCHS3 displayed high expression under naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) and ethylene (ETH). The dual luciferase assay indicated that CsCHS2 effectively binds to the promoters of key stress markers CsERF1 and CsERF3. Our results have provided detailed knowledge regarding the CsCHS gene's influential role in growth and development and also providing the resistive defense in cucumber plants. We believe our study will facilitate the breeding of stress-resilient cultivars, particularly against insect pests and waterlogging stress.

Macrophomina phaseolina is a vital seed and soil-borne phytopathogen responsible for substantial crop yield losses. Although various methods exist for managing soil-borne pathogens, such as agronomic practices, chemical treatments, and varietal tolerance, biological control utilizing plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) or their secondary metabolites presents promising avenues. In this study, a screening of 150 isolates from the rhizosphere of Vigna radiata L. was conducted to identify strains capable of promoting host growth and controlling charcoal rot disease. Among the tested isolates, only 15 strains demonstrated the ability to produce plant growth-related metabolites, including indole acetic acid, hydrogen cyanide, ammonia, and lytic enzymes, and solubilize inorganic phosphate. Subsequently, these potent strains were evaluated for their antifungal activity against Macrophomina phaseolina in vitro. Three strains, namely MRP-7 (58% growth inhibition), MRP-12 (55% growth inhibition), and MRP-8 (44% growth inhibition), exhibited the highest percent growth inhibition (PGI.). Furthermore, a pot experiment demonstrated that the selected strains acted as effective growth promoters and ROS (reactive oxygen species) scavengers, and served as potential biocontrol agents, significantly reducing the incidence of charcoal rot disease and improving various agronomic attributes of the host plant. Laodelphax striatellus is a notorious sap-feeding insect that also serves as a vector of rice stripe virus (RSV) and is responsible for a significant decline in rice yield. Pesticide application remains a crucial strategy for controlling insect pests. In recent years, the utilization of biopesticides has gained attention due to their eco-friendliness and suitability for controlling insect pests and pathogens in agriculture. The present study aimed Figureto evaluate the potential efficacy of a microbial pesticide, decoyinine (DCY), as a seed priming agent in rice against SBPH’s biology, feeding behavior, and RSV transmission ability in the laboratory. Here, we revealed that the body weight of females and males and honeydew extraction of RSV-virulent SBPH were (22.50%, 25.0%, and 23.25%, respectively) significantly lower than non-virulent SBPH. Meanwhile, the fecundity of RSV-virulent SBPH females was significantly higher (8.24%) than non-virulent SBPH. However, nymphal survival and RSV transmission (horizontal and vertical) were found to be non-significantly affected by DCY application. Furthermore, DCY-primed rice seedlings significantly prolonged the time period and frequency of the electrical penetration graph (EPG) feeding waveforms (np, N2, and N3), and also reduced the time period of the waveform (N4-b) for both RSV-virulent and non-virulent SBPH strains with reduced RSV inoculation. The recent study provides new insights for DCY application in rice against SBPH by reducing fecundity, body weight, and honeydew contents, which might contribute to modern integrated pest management.

The brown planthopper (BPH), Nilaparvata lugens (Stål) (Hemiptera: Delphacidae), is a notorious pest in rice production. The microbial secondary metabolite, decoyinine (DCY), is produced by Streptomyces hygroscopicus. Recent studies found that seed priming with DCY could enhance rice resistance to BPH and Laodelphax striatellus; however, the mechanism of enhancing insect resistance in rice remains unclear. Here, an integrated physio-biochemical and transcriptome analysis was performed on rice priming with DCY after BPH infestation. Defense-related enzymes activities such as catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), glutathione S transferase (GST), and polyphenol oxidase (PPO), concentrations of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), callose, and free amino acids in rice priming with DCY were significantly increased than in control plants after BPH infestation. Concentrations of soluble sugars, sucrose, and glucose were higher in rice treated with DCY than in the control after BPH infestation; however, the concentration of malondialdehyde (MDA) was significantly decreased in rice treated with DCY after BPH infestation. In the transcriptome analysis, GO functional annotation and KEGG pathway analysis were enriched in defense response, transcription factors, secondary metabolites, reactive oxygen species, and cell wall organization and these data also support physio-biochemical results. The qRT-PCR results further verified the differential expressed genes related to DCY-treated rice responding to BPH. Meanwhile, it indicated that DCY might enhance the resistance of rice to BPH by regulating the rice WRKY transcription factor genes. Our results provide a basis for further exploring the molecular mechanism of the defense response of rice priming with DCY against BPH infestation and could provide valuable resources to control insect pests.

The homeodomain-leucine zipper (HDZIP) is an important transcription factor family, instrumental not only in growth but in finetuning plant responses to environmental adversaries. Despite the plethora of literature available, the role of HDZIP genes under chewing and sucking insects remains elusive. Herein, we identified 40 OsHDZIP genes from the rice genome database. The evolutionary relationship, gene structure, conserved motifs, and chemical properties highlight the key aspects of OsHDZIP genes in rice. The OsHDZIP family is divided into a further four subfamilies (i.e., HDZIP I, HDZIP II, HDZIP III, and HDZIP IV). Moreover, the protein–protein interaction and Gene Ontology (GO) analysis showed that OsHDZIP genes regulate plant growth and response to various environmental stimuli. Various microRNA (miRNA) families targeted HDZIP III subfamily genes. The microarray data analysis showed that OsHDZIP was expressed in almost all tested tissues. Additionally, the differential expression patterns of the OsHDZIP genes were found under salinity stress and hormonal treatments, whereas under brown planthopper (BPH), striped stem borer (SSB), and rice leaf folder (RLF), only OsHDZIP3, OsHDZIP4, OsHDZIP40, OsHDZIP10, and OsHDZIP20 displayed expression. The qRT-PCR analysis further validated the expression of OsHDZIP20, OsHDZIP40, and OsHDZIP10 under BPH, small brown planthopper (SBPH) infestations, and jinggangmycin (JGM) spraying applications. Our results provide detailed knowledge of the OsHDZIP gene family resistance in rice plants and will facilitate the development of stress-resilient cultivars, particularly against chewing and sucking insect pests.

Thaumatin-like proteins (TLPs), which belong to pathogenesis-related (PR) protein family 5 (PR5), are involved in the plant host defense and developmental processes. Detailed information regarding the TLP gene family in rice remains elusive. Here, we identified 43 OsTLP genes from the rice genome database. The in silico analysis comprised of the evolutionary tree, gene structure, conserved motifs, and chemical properties highlighted the key aspects of the OsTLP genes. By phylogenetic analysis, the OsTLP genes were classified into ten groups (OsTLPI-OsTLPX). Gene ontology (GO) analysis showed that OsTLP genes regulate plant growth and response to various environmental stimuli. Moreover, most of the OsTLP genes are expressed in almost all tissues. Microarray data showed differential expression trends of OsTLP genes under salinity stress and hormonal treatments, whereas under BPH, SSB, and RFL, only OsTLP1, OsTLP2 and OsTLP27 were expressed. The qRT-PCR analysis showed OsTLP27 as the prominent gene, displayed by its upregulated expression under JGM. Our results provide detailed knowledge of OsTLP gene resistance in rice plants, and we believe the current study will facilitate the development of cultivars resistant to biotic/abiotic stress, particularly stress caused by the chewing and sucking of insect pests.

Induced resistance against SBPH via microbial pesticides is considered as an eco-friendly and promising management approach. In this study, the induced resistance against SBPH in rice seedling by a new potential microbial pesticide, decoyinine (DCY), a secondary metabolite produced by Streptomyces hygroscopicus, was evaluated to investigate the effects of DCY on SBPH’s biological and population parameters along with defense-related physiological and biochemical indices in rice against SBPH feeding. We found that DCY has potential to improve rice resistance and significantly reduced the fecundity of SBPH. Laboratory results revealed that DCY treated rice significantly changed SBPH’s fecundity and population life table parameters. The concentrations of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), soluble sugars and malondialdehyde (MDA) were significantly lower in DCY treated rice plants against SBPH infestation at 24, 48 and 96 hours post infestation (hpi), respectively. The concentrations of antioxidant enzymes, catalase (CAT) was significantly higher at 72 hpi, while super oxidase dismutase (SOD) and peroxidase (POD) concentrations were recorded higher at 96 hpi. The concentrations of synthases enzymes, phenyl alanine ammonia-lyase (PAL) was higher at 48 hpi, whereas polyphenol oxidase (PPO) concentration was maximum at 72 hpi against SBPH infestation. The results imply that DCY has unique properties to enhance rice resistance against SBPH by stimulating plant defensive responses. Microbial pesticides may be developed as an alternative to chemical pest control.

Abiotic stresses, such as heat, salt, waterlogging, and multiple-stress environments have significantly reduced wheat production in recent decades. There is a need to use effective strategies for overcoming crop losses due to these abiotic stresses. Fertilizer-based approaches are readily available and can be managed in all farming communities. This research revealed the effects of sulfur-coated urea (SCU, 130 kg ha−1, release time of 120 days) on wheat crops under heat, salt, waterlogging, and combined-stress climatic conditions. The research was done using a completely randomized design with three replicates. The results revealed that SCU at a rate of 130 kg of N ha−1 showed a significantly (p ≤ 0.05) high SPAD value (55) in the case of waterlogging stress, while it was the lowest (31) in the case of heat stress; the control had a SPAD value of 58. Stress application significantly (p ≤ 0.05) reduced the leaf area and was the highest in control (1898 cm2), followed by salt stress (1509 cm2), waterlogging (1478 cm2), and heat stress (1298 cm2). A significantly (p ≤ 0.05) lowest crop yield was observed in the case of heat stress (3623.47 kg ha−1) among all stresses, while it was 10,270 kg ha−1 in control and was reduced up to 35% after the application of heat stress. Among all stresses, the salt stress showed the highest crop yield of 5473.16 kg ha−1. A significant correlation was observed among growth rate, spike length, yield, and physiological constraints with N content in the soil. The SCU fertilizer was the least effective against heat stress but could tolerate salt stress in wheat plants. The findings suggested the feasibility of adding SCU as an alternative to normal urea to alleviate salt stresses and improve wheat crop growth and yield traits. For heat stress tolerance, the applicability of SCU with a longer release period of ~180 days is recommended as a future prospect for study.

Shading is an important technique to protect tea plantations under abiotic stresses. In this study, we analyzed the effect of shading (SD60% shade vs. SD0% no-shade) on the physiological attributes and proteomic analysis of tea leaves in November and December during low temperatures. The results revealed that shading protected the tea plants, including their soil plant analysis development (SPAD), photochemical efficiency (Fv/Fm), and nitrogen content (N), in November and December. The proteomics analysis of tea leaves was determined using tandem mass tags (TMT) technology and a total of 7263 proteins were accumulated. Further, statistical analysis and the fold change of significant proteins (FC < 0.67 and FC > 1.5 p < 0.05) revealed 14 DAPs, 11 increased and 3 decreased, in November (nCK_vs_nSD60), 20 DAPs, 7 increased and 13 decreased, in December (dCK_vs_dSD60), and 12 DAPs, 3 increased and 9 decreased, in both November and December (nCK_vs_nSD60). These differentially accumulated proteins (DAPs) were dehydrins (DHNs), late-embryogenesis abundant (LEA), thaumatin-like proteins (TLPs), glutathione S-transferase (GSTs), gibberellin-regulated proteins (GAs), proline-rich proteins (PRPs), cold and drought proteins (CORA-like), and early light-induced protein 1, which were found in the cytoplasm, nucleus, chloroplast, extra cell, and plasma membrane, and functioned in catalytic, cellular, stimulus-response, and metabolic pathways. In conclusion, the proliferation of key proteins was triggered by translation and posttranslational modifications, which might sustain membrane permeability in tea cellular compartments and could be responsible for tea protection under shading during low temperatures.
