Abstract

We demonstrate how the pitchfork, transcritical and saddle-node bifurcations of steady states observed in dynamical systems with a finite number of isolated equilibrium points occur in systems with lines of equilibria. The exploration is carried out by using the numerical simulation and linear stability analysis applied to a model of a memristor-based oscillator. First, all the discussed bifurcation scenarios are considered in the context of systems including Chua's memristor with a piecewise-smooth characteristic. Then the memristor characteristic is changed to a function that is smooth everywhere. Finally, the action of the memristor forgetting effect is taken into consideration. The presented results are obtained for electronic circuit models, but the considered bifurcation phenomena can be exhibited by systems with a line of equilibria of any nature., Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures

9. Investigating the Effects of Cognitive and Physical Development in Children Education

Abstract

The article considers the relationship of physical and cognitive development of children as well as the processes of memory and attention. They determine the readiness of a child for school education. The analysis of existing theories made it possible to single out the conditions for their development. There was conducted a study to check the level of memory and attention development of 6-7-year-old children. Diagnostic results showed that the vast majority of children showed an average level of memorization, and a low level of attention development. The results of the diagnosis confirmed that the features of the mental development of the preschoolers do not allow a child to fix attention on subjects or actions for a long time, to maintain interest in the performed action. Physical development of children is at the average level. Unified patterns between the general level of mental development and the development of certain types of movements were revealed. Specially organized physical activity for children with a selection of exercises that require concentration of attention, memorizing patterns of movement, coordination will contribute to the development of memory and attention.

Abstract

MoO2/C-composites have been fabricated for the first time by a tartaric acid/glucose-assisted sol-gel method with post-annealing at 500 {\deg}C for 1 h in N2 flow. The synthesized materials were fully characterized with respect to structure, morphology, and electrochemical properties. Compared with tartaric acid-assisted products, the adoption of glucose as carbon source effectively increases the carbon content in the composites. Irrespective of the organic component, the composites exhibit low crystallinity and small grain size. This results in good electrochemical performance of the anode materials as confirmed for the glucose-assisted materials which after additional post treatment delivers a competitive electrochemical capacity.

11. Sol-gel synthesis of Li3VO4/C composites as anode materials for lithium-ion batteries

Abstract

Li3VO4/C composites have been synthesized by a sol-gel method and post-annealing at 650 {\deg}C for 1 h in N2 flow using either tartaric acid, malic acid, or glucose as both chelating agents and carbon source. The presence of these organic additives crucially affects morphology and crystallite size of the final product. It is found that the electrochemical properties of Li3VO4/C as anode material for Li-ion batteries (LIBs) are influenced by the morphology, texture and carbon content of the material. When using carboxylic acids as carbon source composites with mesoporous structure and a high surface area are obtained that display an enhanced electrochemical activity. Initially, reversible capacity of about 400 mAh g-1 is obtained. In contrast, Li3VO4/C synthesized with glucose outperforms in terms of cycling stability. It exhibits a discharge capacity of 299 mAh g-1 after 100 cycles corresponding to an excellent capacity retention of 96 %. The favorable effect of carbon composites on the electrochemical performance of Li3VO4 is shown.

23. Microwave-assisted hydrothermal synthesis of NH4V3O8 microcrystals with controllable morphology

Abstract

Water-free NH4V3O8 microcrystals have been successfully synthesized by a microwave-assisted hydrothermal method. The products were characterized by means of X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermal gravimetric analysis, cyclic voltammetry, and galvanostatic cycling. The results show phase-pure products whose particle size and morphology can be tailored by varying the reaction conditions, i.e., reaction temperature, synthesis duration, and initial pH value. For instance, at low pH (2.5 to 3), flower-like agglomerates with primary particles of 20 to 30 microm length are found, while at pH = 5.5 single microplates with hexagonal outline (30 to 40 microm) prevail. The sample with the comparably highest specific surface area (11 m2/g) was studied regarding its electrochemical performance. It shows an extraordinary initial discharge capacity of 378 mA h g-1 at 10 mA g-1, which corresponds to the intercalation of 4.2 Li+/f.u.

Abstract

Sjögren’s syndrome is a systemic autoimmune disease characterized by lymphocytic infiltration of various organs with a wide frequency of pulmonary involvement. Diffuse cystic lung disease in Sjögren’s syndrome is a rare condition and requires differential diagnosis with other cystic pathologies such as lymphangioleyomiomatosis or Langerhans cell histiocytosis. Probe-based confocal laser endomicroscopy (pCLE) is a method of in vivo investigation of airways and lung tissue at a microscopic level during bronchoscopy. We used this method in diffuse cystic lung disease caused by Sjögren’s syndrome. The pCLE image showed a large number of fluorescent cells, presumably lymphocytes, in bronchioles, dilated alveolar spaces with fluid, and thin alveolar walls. We think that the presence of the bronchiolar cell pattern can be used to differentiate between the pulmonary manifestations of Sjögren’s disease and other cystic lung diseases. 49. Highway drainage as a component of metal input into the catchment

Abstract

Highway runoff, as a nonpoint source, may exert significant pollutant load on the catchment. Finding ways to mitigate nonpoint sources of pollutants is a matter of great concern for improving water quality. It was cited by the Environment Agency in 2005 that more than 80% of English rivers were at risk of failing to achieve Water Framework Directive (WFD) objectives through diffuse pollution (Faram, 2007; p.14). The presence and behaviour of metals were analysed and compared through seasonal sampling from one of the most trafficked roads in the Midlands, M1. These were compared with other sources: local streams and sewage works. The concentration of metals in stormwater from the M1, three neighbouring rural brooks and three local sewage works, all in the same catchment, were sampled. Three metals (Fe, Cu and Zn) were used as an indicator because of their predominance and potential harmful effect on biodiversity. The data was analysed to establish any links between the total and dissolved metals and standard water quality parameters. The thesis also examines the performance of a standard highway treatment system of interceptor and lagoon for removing metals. The results indicate that evaporation and de-icer salts had the strongest effect on metal concentrations and their solubility in the runoff from the M1. As additional factors, rainfall intensity and antecedent dry weather period (ADWP) had the most important influence on metal concentrations. Fe was always at the highest concentrations for all weather conditions (total and dissolved) and all sampling locations. The results also showed that Fe was affiliated with the particulate matter; however, it was also suggested that it was solubilised by anaerobic conditions. Zntot during wet weather exceeded the environmental quality standards (EQS) both on the M1 and in Woodbrook. The sewage work effluent did not exceed the EQS at any time of sampling. It was also found that Zn solubility was increased by the presence of de-icer salts which released it from the sediment by a process of ion-exchange, as suggested by the literature. Cu concentrations had the most erratic values and varied widely but were in the lowest concentrations compared to other metals. During wet weather Cudis from the M1 runoff exceeded the EQS. It was also concluded that the analytical and sample preservation methods chosen could have an effect on the concentrations of copper. Filtration with recycled glass and pea-gravel was able to remove particles down to 5 μm, but at the typical flow rate (5 m/hr), and solids loading the filters would need regular washing. The adsorption studies showed that metals are more effectively removed by alkaline conditions than acid conditions which release metals into the environment.
