Abstract

The emergence of organic farming practices on pepper commodities is a hope for improving the welfare of farmers. The price offered by Organic Black Pepper is higher when compared to ordinary black pepper. In terms of marketing, Organic Black Pepper has its own marketing channel, by using a partnership system. Therefore, it is very important to study whether the Organic Black Pepper commodity is able to provide added value for farmers with a different marketing system compared to ordinary black pepper. This research will try to examine the marketing efficiency between ordinary black pepper and organic black pepper in Lampung Province. The method used in this research is a survey method. The analytical method used is producer share, marketing margin, and profit margin ratio (RPM). The research was conducted in November 2020 in Way Kanan Regency, East Lampung Regency, and North Lampung Regency, which are the top three producers of Black Pepper and Organic Black Pepper in Lampung. The sampling technique used is the snowball technique. The results showed that there are 3 marketing channels for ordinary black pepper, namely a) Farmers-Village-level Collectors-Wholesale Traders-Exporters, b) Farmers-Village-level Collectors-Exporters, and c) Farmers-Wholesale Traders-Exporters. Meanwhile, Organic Black Pepper only has 1 marketing channel, namely through partner farmer groups. Based on the value of Producer's share (PS), the most efficient marketing channel is the marketing channel of Organic Black Pepper. This is because, farmer groups are able to sell pepper directly to exporters without going through intermediaries. In addition, partner farmer groups get benefits in the form of empowerment from third parties and a profit margin of IDR 335.00 per kg in this marketing system. So that farmers are able to benefit both economic and non-economic from this marketing system. Abstract

This research aims to determine the factors that contribute to the cassava marketing margin in the Terusan Nunyai District of the Central Lampung Regency. Survey method was implemented, and 40 consent farmers were chosen at random as the participant. Snowball sampling, which involves three collection traders and three agents, was used to determine the responses from marketing agents. Multiple linear regression models were employed to evaluate the factors affecting marketing margins. Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the economic role of cassava in farm households in Central Lampung Regency in the span of 1998 to 2018. Data collection were using surveys and in-depth interviews and analyzed using tabulation method. The results showed that there had been a decline in the economic role of cassava in farm households from 86% to 43.39%. There had been an increase in the share of on-farm income outside cassava (sugar cane, poultry farming, and cattle, etc) and the share of off-farm income (farm laborers) and non-farm income (employees, drivers, and traders) in line with the growth of the sugar processing industry since the past 10 years. In 1998, the economic role of cassava on household income was 86% while it was 43.39% in 2018. Non-cassava income was 39.13%, off-farm income as farmer income was 8.52%, and non-farm income was 8.96%. The shift of the primary sector to the secondary and tertiary sectors occurred because in Terusan Nunyai Sub-district, sugar cane factories and pineapple factories had been established, so farmers preferred to become farm laborers, employees, drivers, and traders to increase their incomes.

Abstract

Irrigation development in the Way Tulung Buho area, Tiyuh Kibang Yekti Jaya, Lambu Kibang District, West Tulang Bawang Regency, Lampung Province aims to increase production and productivity of rice farming so that farmers' income increases. This research aims to examine the impact of irrigation development in the Way Tulung Buho Irrigation Area on increasing production, productivity and farming income and examine the development potential of the area. This research uses a survey method, data is analyzed using farming analysis and the AHP method. The research results show that irrigation development in the Way Tulung Buho Irrigation Area has an impact on changing the function of farmers' land from rainfed lowland rice fields, rubber and cassava plantations to technically irrigated rice fields with increased productivity and farming income. There are four potential locations to be developed into irrigation areas, namely Tiyuh Kibang Yekti Jaya, Tiyuh Kibang Tri Jaya, Tiyuh Agung Jaya and Tiyuh Gunung Agung with a total area of 1,927.34 Ha which is expected to become one of the rice production centers in West Tulang Bawang Regency. 17. Dominant factors on food coping mechanism of poor households in Pringsewu Regency, Indonesia.

Abstract

Introduction: In general, poor households do not have sufficient purchasing power to ensure food security, and this has led to the establishment of food coping mechanisms to alleviate this insufficiency. Therefore, this study was aimed at identifying the dominant factors on food coping mechanism of poor households. Methods: Simple random sampling technique and random tables were used to obtain the data from a sample size of 92 beneficiaries of poor targeted households of prosperous rice (RASTRA) in Pringsewu Regency through interviews and a questionnaire. Four villages, i.e., Fajar Baru, Kemilin of North Pagelaran Sub- District, Wargomulyo, and Tanjung Rusia of Pardasuka Sub-District, were the locations of the study. Data were analysed using descriptive and factor analysis. Results: Results showed that most households had food coping mechanisms involving buying smaller amounts and cheaper types of foods. Factors forming the poor households' food coping mechanisms were the households' social and economic conditions, food coping activities, assets, and heads' and their wives' occupations. Conclusion: In Pringsewu Regency, the dominant factor affecting food coping mechanism was social condition. This condition encompassed the household head's age, his and his wife's length of formal education, their nutrition knowledge, and the number of actors on food coping mechanism. Education was the dominant variable on food coping mechanism of poor households and it played the biggest role in affecting the establishment of survival mechanisms for overcoming food insecurity.
