Background and purpose: Current scientometric indicators have some strengths and weaknesses. This study was conducted with the aim of developing a new scientometric index for the comprehensive scientific evaluation of researchers, the so-called multifold index. Materials and methods: The study was conducted with 96 researchers from Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences with at least two articles in Scopus and at least one citation to the articles. A checklist was used that included variables, such as the scientific age of each individual, the square root of the total number of each article, the sum of references to top articles, the H-index, etc. Some statistical analyzes such as factor analysis, KMO test and Bartlett’s test for sphericity, correlation matrix and SPSS software version 22 were used. Test functional characteristics and area under the rock curve were used, and sensitization was performed, extracting 99% predictive power and diagnostic power (0.7). Results: When calculating the multifold index, the H-index has the largest weight of 0.238, and the numerical value it provides is appropriate and measures all aspects of a person's scientific activity. This index is different for researchers who have the same H-index. Conclusion: The Multifold Index leads to a qualitative assessment and takes into account all aspects of a person's scientific activity. It can be used for assessments, predictions about the scientific status of researchers, educational and research groups and for creating a comprehensive scientific map of the country.

Abstract Background A cesarean scar defect (CSD) is incomplete healing of the myometrium at the site of a prior cesarean section (CS), complicating more than half of all cesarean sections. While transvaginal ultrasound (TVU) is the most common modality for diagnosing this defect, hysteroscopy remains the gold standard. We aimed to develop an efficient diagnostic tool for CSD among women with abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) by integrating TVU findings and participants’ demographic features. Methods A single-center cross-sectional study was conducted on 100 premenopausal and non-pregnant women with a history of CS complaining of AUB without a known systemic or structural etiology. Each participant underwent a hysteroscopy followed by a TVU the next day. The defect dimensions in TVU, patients’ age, and the number of previous CSs were integrated into a binary logistic regression model to evaluate their predictive ability for a hysteroscopy-confirmed CSD. Results Hysteroscopy identified 74 (74%) participants with CSD. The variables age, the number of CSs, defect length, and defect width significantly contributed to the logistic regression model to diagnose CSD with odds ratios of 9.7, 0.7, 2.6, and 1.7, respectively. Background and Objective: Death anxiety is a natural phenomenon, the absence of which could potentially put human life in danger. However, excessive death anxiety could disrupt normal life of people. Death anxiety is affected by various factors. The purpose of this study was to investigate the predicting role of aspirations, self-compassion, self-esteem, and self-knowledge on death anxiety among university students. Materials and Methods: This study was of correlational design. Participants included undergraduate psychology students of Islamic Azad University, in the city of Lahijan, in the academic year of 2015-2016, among whom 160 students were selected using convenience sampling method. Data were collected using AI, the Self-Short Form Compassion Scale (SCS-SF), Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), Self-Cognition Scale (ISK), and Templar Death Anxiety Scale (TDAS). Data were analyzed via Pearson correlation and multiple regressions in SPSS software version 20. Results: The mean (SD) age was 23.7 (6.3) among female and 24.1 (6.4) male participants. Increased score death anxiety with the mean (SD) of 2.5 (0.3) was associated with increased score of importance of external aspirations with the mean (SD) of 6.2 (1.2), achieving external aspirations with the mean (SD) of 6.5 (1.1) (P0.05). Background and purpose: There are some strengths and weaknesses in current indicators of scientometrics. This study aimed to present a new index of scientometrics in evaluating scientific output of Iranian medical journals. Materials and methods: This exploratory analytical study was done with a scientometric approach in scientific output of 108 medical science journals indexed in Scopus and 63 scientific output of the universities of medical sciences in Iran, 2018. Data were collected using a checklist that included scientometric factors. The inclusion criteria was to have at least two articles indexed in the Scopus database and at least one citation. The index to be calculated was the ratio of the number of articles with at least one citation to zero according to the Odds index. Results: Findings showed that the mean h-index of journals was 14.06 and the mean O-index was 2.29. In universities, the highest mean values of O-index, h-index, and h5-index were 2.724, 85.8, and 45.7, respectively belonging to type I universities. There were significant relationships in O, h, and h5 indices between the three types of universities (P= 0.000). Conclusion: According to this study, the O-index was correlated with the h-index and could be very useful in evaluating the scientific output of universities and journals alongside other indices.

Objective: This study aims to evaluate current pain assessment and management in critically ill patients and to describe (1) pain management episode, according to the behavioral pain scale (BPS), and (2) the effectiveness of analgesics, according to the recommendation of guidelines. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, a sample of 60 intubated critically ill patients was selected from the intensive care units (ICUs). A researcher evaluated the patient' pain severity using the BPS tool in patients receiving analgesics according to nurses' note. At each time of analgesic administration, the BPS score was recorded, and this process was repeated 72 h later. The appropriateness of pharmacological interventions was assessed according to the American College of Critical Care Medicine guideline. Findings: The most prescribed analgesic was morphine sulfate (48.3%) followed by fentanyl (23.3%). 55% of analgesics on day 1 and 25% on day 3 were prescribed appropriately according to the guideline recommendation and BPS score. Background and purpose: The status and role of each country in scientific production in specific fields may indicate the potential and its performance in promoting and improving that particular issue. Cancer is a major health problem in Iran, so this study aimed to investigate the role of scientific production of Iran about cancer. Materials and methods: We conducted a scientometric study using Iranian articles about cancer based on the Scopus database and Web of Science. The electronic search was done according to subject and affiliation for articles published until 2015. Data was then extracted using the Analyze Search Result. Results: According to Scopus at the end of 2015, Iran had 2865 articles about cancer placing the country in 29th position. The H-Index score for the country was 52 which placed Iran in 45th position in the world. The impact factor of articles published by Iranian researchers on cancer in Eastern Mediterranean region was 4 and the number of papers placed Iran in third place. By the end of 2015, a total of 1868 articles were indexed by Web of Science of which 27.5% were published in Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention. Conclusion: The number of Iranian articles in the field of cancer is increasing in international databases, yet the number of articles in high-quality journals is low. This requires appropriate planning that could improve Iran’s position on scientific productions about cancer.

Background and purpose: Publication of scientific journals in every country is recognized as one of the main ways for publishing and development of science and knowledge. The aim of this research was to compare the differences in non-citations of Iranian journals in Persian and English on health indexed in Scopus during 2011 and 2015. Materials and methods: In a descriptive-analytical study, we investigated 85 Iranian journals in Persian and English on health indexed in Scopus database. The list of Journals was obtained from the Ministry of Health and all journals were searched in Scopus database. Data analysis was done in SPSS V.20 applying Mann-Whitney, t-test, and Pearson correlations. P values less than 0.05 were considered significant. Results: There was a weak positive correlation between Iranian journals in Persian and percentage of articles with at least one citation (r=0.4) which was found to be not significant (P=0.123). But in English language journals published by Iranian institutions and bodies a weak negative correlation (r=-0.388) was seen between the number of articles and percentage of articles with at least one citation (P=0.000). Conclusion: According to SJR and SNIP, Iranian Journals in English indexed in Scopus have a better status compared with that of journals in Persian. Also, the number of articles with no citation published in English is low.

Background: Pediatric stroke is defined as rapid developing clinical signs of focal (or global) disturbance of cerebral function without any apparent cause other than of vascular origin lasting for 24 hours or longer in the ages of 1 month to 18 years. It is relatively rare in children, however, it can lead to significant mortality and morbidity. Objectives: The present study aimed to identify clinical presentations, etiologies, and outcomes of pediatric stroke in southern Iran. Methods: This case-series study included all patients that were diagnosed with a pediatric stroke and admitted to the Pediatric Neurology ward at Namazi hospital in Shiraz, Iran, from May 2009 through March 2012. Results: During the study period, 40 newly diagnosed patients (27 males and 13 females) between the ages of 10 months and 18 years old were identified. The most prevalent referring symptoms were hemiparesis and hemiplagia (65%), seizures (45%), speech difficulties (42.5%), and altered mental status (35%). A known single etiology was identified in 82.5% of patients. The most common single risk factor was cardiac abnormalities with 30% frequency, followed by idiopathic and vascular with 17.5%. The outcome of pediatric patients revealed incomplete recovery with moderate neurological deficits (45%) including residual epilepsy (15%), speech difficulties (15%), and behavioral dysfunction (7%), which indicate their need for help in some of their daily activities. Conclusions: Stroke in southern Iranian pediatric patients demonstrated different patterns of causes and risk factors with similar clinical presentations and outcomes.
