This is chapter 6 of the State of Environmental Science in Svalbard (SESS) report 2022. Uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs), or drones, have become an established tool for a wide range of scientific applications. Today, UAVs are used for example for mapping geomorphic features, glaciers, and heritage sites, counting reindeer, atmospheric measurements, sea ice monitoring and in many other ways. However, the technology is still relatively new and there is a substantial untapped potential for using UAVs for scientific goals. This report’s main focus is to highlight practical issues related to planning and conducting fieldwork in Svalbard, as well as storing and sharing drone-based datasets. One of the key challenges in the field is related to a lack of standardised data storage and metadata requirements. This means that many datasets are not adequately described and/or archived so they are publicly available This means that drone-based data can often not be reused, for example for long-term monitoring studies. The practical recommendations about planning and conducting fieldwork with UAVs in Svalbard is intended to help and guide scientists to become more successful in conducting drone missions. Svalbard has several special challenges related to its remoteness, high latitude, and fauna. Recommendations are given on how SIOS can strengthen and expand scientific drone applications in Svalbard. The recommendations are intended to make it easier to conduct more complex missions in Svalbard and to train and fund new users. Furthermore, it is recommended to create a forum for scientists to discuss drone-related issues, e.g. to develop community standards for data.

Unemployment and job insecurity affecting the called 'new lost generation' explain to a large extent why many young people today perceive the standards of living achieved by their parents as inaccessible. This reality, aggravated by the current health pandemic, has eroded the levels of trust that the new cohorts show towards political institutions in general, and political parties in particular. One of the most worrying consequences of this change has been the growing support for radical right-wing populist formations in contexts of high job insecurity. Despite the profuse scientific production on the populist radical right, the analysis of support for such parties among new cohorts remains almost non-existent in previous literature. In order to provide a detailed picture on the object of study, we will carry out detailed analyses at the individual, regional and national level for Spain. A large number of variables will be included in this database, with more subtle indicators that better capture these realities, such as the perceived probability of losing one's job in the coming months. In this regard, we will execute a series of conjoint experiments embedded in an online survey of a sample of individuals (1,500 individuals plus a subsample of 500 individuals between 18 and 35 years old) to disentangle the effects of party positions on the economy, migration, EU, anti-elitism, people-centrism, etc. on the vote choice of the young vis-à-vis the older generations.

The report aimed to set the basis of MICADO project and shed some light on the challenges this innovation action faces and establish a more accurate picture of migrant integration in the four cities of interest for this project: Antwerp, Bologna, Hamburg and Madrid. The first section of this report presents a combination of a classic systematic literature review of the state of the art of migrant integration at a European, national and local level in the last 5 years, with a quantitative text analysis that studies the co-occurrence of different topics of interest. This up-to-date analysis includes 558 documents including reports and scientific articles from both the European Union and national scientific journals. The thorough revision of the literature brings us the opportunity to provide the MICADO project with a clear and critically assesed definition and conceptualisation of key terms, and discover which evidence-based individual and contextual characteristics have been found to affect integration in the main domains comprised by MICADO. The second section provides a general overview of secondary data on migrant population regarding the topics of interest (education, employment, health, housing, participation and gender) in a longitudinal and comparative perspective among the four countries involved in the MICADO project. It also shows the difficulty to obtain comparative statistics related to these issues at a local level. A third section presents the migrant integration policy map in the Consortium cities in a multilevel comparative perspective, encompassing the legal and political framework at a national level and public interventions developed at regional and local levels, with the aim of observing the real actions that have been executed for migrant integration and how they match the social, economic and political particularities in the different cities of interest for MICADO. The legal and political framework at national and local levels has followed the Migration Integration Policy Index (MIPEX), updating its scores to 2019, upgrading it by including the local/regional level and a housing and gender dimension. Following the new governance paradigm analysis, we aimed to present a policy map of actors involved in migrant integration policies in the four cities of interest, with a special focus on those more relevant or directly oriented to the population of interest. The purpose of this map, following Eurocities or OECD (2018e), is to show what is being done and who are involved in the design, implementation, funding and evaluation of the policy-making process, identifying patterns, agenda priorities and multilevel dependencies in these processes.
