Background: Alzheimer's disease is a chronic neurodegenerative disorder that results in total cognitive impairment and functional decline. Family members are the most usual caregivers worldwide, resulting in an increasing total burden and a subsequent degradation of their quality of life. Objectives: To evaluate the burden of care and quality of life among informal caregivers to Alzheimer patients in Egypt. Methods: A descriptive research design was used. The study was conducted at outpatient clinics of El-Abbasya Mental Hospital in Cairo, Egypt. This study included 550 informal caregivers of Alzheimer patients. Data were gathered through questionnaires using the Sociodemographic Profile of Family Caregivers, an adopted version of the Montgomery Borgatta Caregiver Burden scale, and Health-Related Quality of Life Scale. Results: Nearly three quarters (73.5%) of the informal caregivers were female. Additionally, the physical burden among the informal caregivers was the highest (21.58 ± 8.13), while the psychological burden was the lowest (7.48 ± 25.35). Besides, around one-third (30%) of the informal caregivers had a total poor quality of life. Significance of results: Total burden among informal caregivers of Alzheimer patients was relatively high (64.71 ± 26.86). Moreover, less than one-tenth (8%) of the informal caregivers for Alzheimer's patients had a good quality of life, whereas more than half (62%) of them had an average quality of life. In the Egyptian context, ongoing health education initiatives for those who care for Alzheimer patients are essential, and additional research employing large study sample sizes in varied contexts is strongly advised. Background: Pancreatic cancer is a devastating disease with a poor prognosis, causing significant physical and psychological distress that detrimentally impacts patients' quality of life., Aim: This study aimed to comprehensively assess the physical and psychological status of newly diagnosed pancreatic cancer patients., Methods: A cohort of 138 newly diagnosed patients completed standardized assessments, including the Edmonton Symptom Assessment System (ESAS), Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), and Distress Thermometer (DT). Data were analysed using descriptive statistics., Results: The ESAS scores revealed high symptom burden, with mean scores of 6.8 for pain, 7.2 for fatigue, and 4.9 for depression. Measures of well-being indicated low scores, with means of 2.3 for physical well-being, 1.5 for social/family well-being, and 1.7 for emotional well-being. Distress levels were also high, with a mean score of 7.6 on the DT., Conclusion: Newly diagnosed pancreatic cancer patients experience substantial physical and psychological challenges, including severe symptom burden, distress, depressive symptoms, and cognitive impairment. Holistic care approaches that prioritize symptom management and address psychological distress are essential to improve patient outcomes and enhance overall well-being.

Objectives: Palliative care is a holistic, patient-centered approach to improving the quality of life for those with terminal diseases and their families. The main objective of the current study was to evaluate the Egyptian domestic caregivers' knowledge, attitudes, and competencies related to palliative and supportive care., Methods: Three hundred and thirty-five family caregivers in total were recruited. A descriptive research design was used. Four tools were used to collect data; structured interview questionnaire to collect demographic questions, palliative care knowledge questionnaire, Palliative Attitude Scale, and Competence Scale. The study was conducted in oncology outpatient and pain clinics located at the Damietta Cancer Institute in Damietta Governorate, Egypt., Results: Nearly two-thirds of the informal family caregivers are aged between 30-40 years old; 54% are female, and 83% are married. Also, sixty-seven point eight of the informal family caregivers were working (part-time). Furthermore, 65 % of them had insufficient knowledge, 68 % had a positive attitude, and 58% of the informal family caregivers had non-competency skills regarding palliative and supportive care., Conclusion: Approximately two-thirds of informal care providers had insufficient total knowledge scores, more than half possessed a positive attitude, and more than half reported non-competency skills regarding palliative care of hepatocellular patients., Recommendation: It is highly advisable to launch extensive health education programs and campaigns aimed at all of the unpaid informal family careers of patients with serious terminal illnesses, including hepatocellular carcinoma, at various governments with greater sample sizes.
