Abstract Background Wild food plants (WFPs) play an important role in the traditional dietary habits of various indigenous communities worldwide, particularly in mountainous regions. To understand the dynamics of food preferences, cross-cultural studies on food plants should be conducted across diverse ethnic groups in a given area. In this context, the current study investigated the use of WFPs by seven different cultural groups in the Kashmir Himalayan Region. In this area, people gather wild plants and their parts for direct consumption, traditional foods, or sale in local markets. Despite this reliance, documentation of the food system, especially concerning WFPs, is notably lacking. Hence, our research aimed to document WFPs, along with associated traditional ecological knowledge, and identify major threats to their long-term sustainability in Division Muzaffarabad. Methods Through a comprehensive approach involving questionnaires, interviews, focus groups, and market surveys, we gathered data from 321 respondents. PCA was performed to analyze threats and plant use using “factoextra” in R software. Origin Pro was used to create a chord diagram, while R software was used to generate a Polar heat map. Additionally, a Venn diagram was created using Bioinformatics software. Results The study included 321 informants, of whom 75.38% were men and 24.61% were women. In total, 113 plant taxa from 74 genera and 41 botanical families were reported. Polygonaceae and Rosaceae accounted for the majority (17 species each), followed by Lamiaceae (7 species). Leaves were the most used part as food sources (41.04%), followed by fruits (33.33%). Most of the species are consumed as cooked (46.46%) and as raw snacks (37.80%). A total of 47 plant species were collected and cooked as wild vegetables, followed by 40 species used as fruits. This study is the first to describe the market potential and ecological distribution of WFPs in the study area. Cross-comparison showed that utilization of WFPs varies significantly across the region and communities, including their edible parts and mode of consumption. Jaccard index (JI) value ranged from 5.81 to 25. Furthermore, the current study describes 29 WFPs and 10 traditional food dishes that have rarely been documented in Pakistan's ethnobotanical literature. Climate change, invasive species, expansion of agriculture, and plant diseases are some of the most significant threats to WFPs in the study area. Conclusions The older age group has more knowledge about WFPs compared to the younger generation, who are not interested in learning about the utilization of WFPs. This lack of interest in information about WFPs among the younger generation can be attributed to their limited access to markets and availability of food plants in the study area. Traditional gathering of food plants has been reduced in younger generations during recent years; therefore, it is crucial to develop effective conservation strategies. These efforts not only safeguard indigenous flora, food knowledge, and cultural heritage, but they also contribute to food security and public health by utilizing local wild foods in the examined area.

Abstract Background Dengue fever has become a significant worldwide health concern, because of its high morbidity rate and the potential for an increase in mortality rates due to lack of adequate treatment. There is an immediate need for the development of effective medication for dengue fever. Methods Homology modeling of dengue virus (DENV) non-structural 4B (NS4B) protein was performed by SWISS-MODEL to predict the 3D structure of the protein. Structure validation was conducted using PROSA, PROCHECK, Ramachandran plot, and VERIFY-3D. MOE software was used to find out the in-Silico inhibitory potential of the five triterpenoids against the DENV-NS4B protein. Results The SWISS-MODEL was employed to predict the three-dimensional protein structure of the NS4B protein. Through molecular docking, it was found that the chosen triterpenoid NS4B protein had a high binding affinity interaction. It was observed that the NS4B protein binding energy for 15-oxoursolic acid, betulinic acid, ursolic acid, lupeol, and 3-o-acetylursolic acid were − 7.18, − 7.02, − 5.71, − 6.67 and − 8.00 kcal/mol, respectively. Conclusions NS4B protein could be a promising target which showed good interaction with tested triterpenoids which can be developed as a potential antiviral drug for controlling dengue virus pathogenesis by inhibiting viral replication. However, further investigations are necessary to validate and confirm their efficacy.

Background: Cardioversion is the treatment of choice in an unstable patient with arrhythmia. It requires analgesia and sedation, which is usually given via intravenous route. However, when there is a failure to get vascular access, alternatives routes to intravenous (IV) sedation and analgesia are needed. Case Presentation: A 59 year old male patient was presented to the emergency department (ED) complaining of chest pain and palpitation. His electrocardiogram (ECG) showed new onset rapid narrow complex atrial fibrillation, which then converted to wide complex tachycardia. Initially, the patient remained hemodynamically stable, but his blood pressure dropped, when cardioversion was indicated. In this case, intranasal (IN) and intraosseous (IO) routes were used, both of which are uncommon to be used for sedation in an unstable patient. The sedatives bioavailability and dosage via non intravenous (non-IV) routes are not commonly used, hence, literature was reviewed to find out the appropriate sedative dosage via non-IV routes specifically in IN and IO route for moderate sedation in ED, to facilitate procedures like cardioversion. Conclusion: It was believed that IN and IO routes are good alternatives to intravenous routes when timely vascular access can't be secured and when emergency medication administration is required. Abstract In many countries with wastewater irrigation and intensive use of fertilizers (minerals and organics), heavy metal deposition by crops is regarded as a major environmental concern. A study was conducted to determine the impact of mineral fertilizers, cow manure, poultry manure, leaf litter, and sugarcane bagasse on soil’s trace Pb content and edible parts of vegetables. It also evaluated the risk of lead (Pb) contamination in water, soil, and food crops. Six vegetables (Daucus carota, Brassica oleracea, Pisum sativum, Solanum tuberosum, Raphanus sativus, and Spinacia oleracea) were grown in the field under twelve treatments with different nutrient and water inputs. The lead concentrations in soil, vegetables for all treatments and water samples ranged from 1.038–10.478, 0.09346–9.0639 mg/kg and 0.036–0.26448 mg/L, The concentration of lead in soil treated with wastewater in treatment (T6) and vegetable samples was significantly higher, exceeding the WHO’s permitted limit. Mineral and organic fertilizers combined with wastewater treatment reduced lead (Pb) concentrations in vegetables compared to wastewater application without organic fertilizers. Health risk indexes for all treatments except wastewater treatment (T6) were less than one. Pb concentrations in mineral fertilizers, cow manure, poultry manure, leaf litter, and sugarcane bagasse treated were determined to pose no possible risk to consumers.

Abstract Most of the countries in the world are affected by the coronavirus epidemic that put people in danger, with many infected cases and deaths. The crowding factor plays a significant role in the transmission of coronavirus disease. On the other hand, the vaccines of the covid-19 played a decisive role in the control of coronavirus infection. In this paper, a fractional order epidemic model (SIVR) of coronavirus disease is proposed by considering the effects of crowding and vaccination because the transmission of this infection is highly influenced by these two factors. The nonlinear incidence rate with the inclusion of these effects is a better approach to understand and analyse the dynamics of the model. The positivity and boundedness of the fractional order model is ensured by applying some standard results of Mittag Leffler function and Laplace transformation. The equilibrium points are described analytically. The existence and uniqueness of the non-integer order model is also confirmed by using results of the fixed-point theory. Stability analysis is carried out for the system at both the steady states by using Jacobian matrix theory, Routh–Hurwitz criterion and Volterra-type Lyapunov functions. Basic reproductive number is calculated by using next generation matrix. It is verified that disease-free equilibrium is locally asymptotically stable if $${R}_{0}1$$ R 0 > 1 . Moreover, the disease-free equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable if $${R}_{0}1$$ R 0 > 1 . The non-standard finite difference (NSFD) scheme is developed to approximate the solutions of the system. The simulated graphs are presented to show the key features of the NSFD approach. It is proved that non-standard finite difference approach preserves the positivity and boundedness properties of model. The simulated graphs show that the implementation of control strategies reduced the infected population and increase the recovered population. The impact of fractional order parameter $$\alpha$$ α is described by the graphical templates. The future trends of the virus transmission are predicted under some control measures. The current work will be a value addition in the literature. The article is closed by some useful concluding remarks.

Objective: This study aimed at recording therapeutic plant species used by inhabitants to treat dental disorders in the district of North Waziristan, Pakistan. The indigenous people of the studied area are dependent on medicinal plants for their basic health care needs including dental care. Methods: Ethnomedicinal data were collected using a semi-structured questionnaires, and in addition 130 local informants were interviewed. The collected data were evaluated using various quantitative indices, including use value (UV), relative frequency of citation (RFC), fidelity level (FL%), and Jaccard Index (JI). Results: A total of 69 plants belonging to 48 plant families used in dental disorders were identified. The Lamiaceae was the leading family that shared 7 species, followed by Solanaceae (4 spp).The dominant life form used was herbs (47.83%), folowed by leaves (43.90%) in preparing remedies for different dental disorders. Decoction was the most common mode of preparation (34.21%), followed by pastes (21.05%). The highest RFC (0.36) was reported for Bergenia ciliata, followed by Salvadora oleoides (0.35). The majority of the plants (36 spp) were utilised as herbal medicine to treat toothache, followed by 13 species for periodontal (gum) infections, 11 species used for teeth cleaning, and 9 species for halitosis (bad breath). Conclusions: This study is the first-ever record of ethnomedicinal applications for the treatment of dental diseases from Pakistan. Some of the forgeoing hebal medications should be further evalauted for the development of pahrmaceutical bio-products for the treatment of dental disorders.

The cultivation of forage crops on wastewater-irrigated soils, while common in many developing countries, poses significant risks due to heavy metal pollution, particularly Lead (Pb) and Nickel (Ni). This practice, aimed at addressing water scarcity challenges and providing affordable irrigation, was investigated for its ecological and human health implications across three diverse sites (site A, site B, and site C). Our study unveiled increases in Pb concentrations in contaminated soil, cultivated with Sesbania bispinosa showing the highest Pb accumulation. The Ni concentrations ranged from 5.34 to 10.43 across all forage crop samples, with S. fruticosa from site C displaying the highest Ni concentration and S. bicolor from site A exhibiting the lowest. Trace element concentrations in the specimens were determined using an atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The Pb levels in the blood, hair, and feces of farm ruminants (cows, buffaloes, and sheep) varied across the sites, with buffaloes consistently displaying the highest Pb levels. Insights into daily Pb intake by ruminant’s highlighted variations influenced by plant species, animal types, and sites, with site C, the cows exhibiting the highest Health Risk Index (HRI) associated with lead exposure from consuming forage crops. Soil and forage samples showed Pb concentrations ranging from 8.003 to 12.29 mg/kg and 6.69–10.52 mg/kg, respectively, emphasizing the severe health risks associated with continuous sewage usage. Variations in Ni concentrations across animal blood, hair, and feces samples underscored the importance of monitoring Ni exposure in livestock, with sheep at site B consistently showing the highest Ni levels. These findings highlight the necessity of vigilance in monitoring trace element (Pb and Ni) exposure in forage crops and livestock, to mitigate potential health risks associated with their consumption, with variations dependent on species, site, and trace element concentrations.

Blastomyces dermatitidis is a thermally dimorphic fungus that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, including blastomycosis. After spore inhalation, a pulmonary infection develops, which can be asymptomatic and have lethal effects, such as acute respiratory distress syndrome. Its most common extra-pulmonary sites are the central nervous system, bones, skin, and genito-urinary systems. Currently, no vaccine has been approved by the FDA to prevent this infection. In the study, a peptide-based vaccine was developed against blastomycosis by using subtractive proteomics and reverse vaccinology approaches. It focuses on mining the whole genome of B. dermatitidis, identifying potential therapeutic targets, and pinpointing potential epitopes for both B- and T-cells that are immunogenic, non-allergenic, non-toxic, and highly antigenic. Multi-epitope constructs were generated by incorporating appropriate linker sequences. A linker (EAAAK) was also added to incorporate an adjuvant sequence to increase immunological potential. The addition of adjuvants and linkers ultimately resulted in the formation of a vaccine construct in which the number of amino acids was 243 and the molecular weight was 26.18 kDa. The designed antigenic and non-allergenic vaccine constructs showed suitable physicochemical properties. The vaccine's structures were predicted, and further analysis verified their interactions with the human TLR-4 receptor through protein-protein docking. Additionally, MD simulation showed a potent interaction between prioritized vaccine-receptor complexes. Immune simulation predicted that the final vaccine injections resulted in significant immune responses for the T- and B-cell immune responses. Moreover, in silico cloning ensured a high expression possibility of the lead vaccine in the E. coli (K12) vector. This study offers an initiative for the development of effective vaccines against B. dermatitidis; however, it is necessary to validate the designed vaccine's immunogenicity experimentally.

The family Aphididae (Hemiptera) represents one of the most diverse groups of sap-sucking insect pests referred to as aphids or plant-lice, with 366 species reported in Pakistan, associated with wide array of agricultural and horticultural crops, including fruit and forest trees, weeds, grasses, shrubs, and vines. This work aims to provide an updated checklist of aphids and their associated host plants documented across various regions of Pakistan. The checklist consolidates information from various published literature sources, including annotated checklists, regional distribution data, and host plant records from Pakistan. In this study, we present an annotated checklist of 366 aphid species, belonging to 134 genera and 11 subfamilies, associated with a total of 359 host plant species stretched over 84 families in Pakistan.

Timely and unbiased evaluation of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is essential for providing lasting benefits to affected individuals. However, conventional ASD assessment heavily relies on subjective criteria, lacking objectivity. Recent advancements propose the integration of modern processes, including artificial intelligence-based eye-tracking technology, for early ASD assessment. Nonetheless, the current diagnostic procedures for ASD often involve specialized investigations that are both time-consuming and costly, heavily reliant on the proficiency of specialists and employed techniques. To address the pressing need for prompt, efficient, and precise ASD diagnosis, an exploration of sophisticated intelligent techniques capable of automating disease categorization was presented. This study has utilized a freely accessible dataset comprising 547 eye-tracking systems that can be used to scan pathways obtained from 328 characteristically emerging children and 219 children with autism. To counter overfitting, state-of-the-art image resampling approaches to expand the training dataset were employed. Leveraging deep learning algorithms, specifically MobileNet, VGG19, DenseNet169, and a hybrid of MobileNet-VGG19, automated classifiers, that hold promise for enhancing diagnostic precision and effectiveness, was developed. The MobileNet model demonstrated superior performance compared to existing systems, achieving an impressive accuracy of 100%, while the VGG19 model achieved 92% accuracy. These findings demonstrate the potential of eye-tracking data to aid physicians in efficiently and accurately screening for autism. Moreover, the reported results suggest that deep learning approaches outperform existing event detection algorithms, achieving a similar level of accuracy as manual coding. Users and healthcare professionals can utilize these classifiers to enhance the accuracy rate of ASD diagnosis. The development of these automated classifiers based on deep learning algorithms holds promise for enhancing the diagnostic precision and effectiveness of ASD assessment, addressing the pressing need for prompt, efficient, and precise ASD diagnosis.

Indian jujube (Ber) is highly perishable climacteric fruit owing to high decay index limiting its marketability and demands interventions to prolong shelf life. Fungicides are normally used to control rot during postharvest storage, however, residues left necessitate eco-safe alternatives like hot water dipping. Mature, pre-climacteric jujubes were dipped in 45, 50 or 55 °C water for 8, 6 or 4 min, respectively and then stored at 5 °C for periodic quality evaluation. Dipping fruits in 55 °C water resulted in 32.69 and 35.27, 64.21 and 58.57, 30.41 and 30.42, 38.50 and 52.20 % lower weight loss, decay index, malondialdehyde (MDA) and electrolyte leakage, whereas 15.40 and 16.77, 19.51 and 20.48 % greater antioxidant activity and ascorbic acid respectively for Umran and Pakwhite compared to 25 °C water dip. The highest glucose, fructose, malic, citric, and tartaric acids were 23.44 ± 1.04 and 29.9 ± 0.95, 30.68 ± 1.72 and 41.17 ± 2.34 mg/100 g, 138.1 ± 6.45 and 112.97 ± 6.16, 57.49 ± 1.71 and 53.78 ± 1.90, 79.58 ± 5.1 and 65.3 ± 4.83 μg/100 g whereas lower sucrose 12.34 ± 0.94 and 16.33 ± 1.05 mg/100 g were respectively recorded in 55 °C water dipped Umran and Pakwhite fruits. High dip water temperature (55 °C) exhibited better quality with the lowest decay index and weight loss, greater membrane integrity, bioactives content and sensory acceptance scores. Hence, hot water dipping was shown to be an effective residue-free option to extend the marketable period of jujubes to capture distant markets.

Protection against unwanted intrusions is crucial for preserving the integrity and security of connected devices in the context of Internet of Things (IoT) networks. The growing number of IoT devices has made several industries more vulnerable to cyberattacks and security breaches, including smart homes, industrial automation, and healthcare. In response to this pressing dilemma, the goal of this project is to create a novel method for intrusion detection in Internet of Things systems utilizing Denoising Autoencoder (DAE) models. Traditional intrusion detection methods often prove inadequate in Internet of Things scenarios due to resource restrictions, dynamic network topologies, and a diversity of communication protocols. By utilizing DAEs’ unsupervised learning and feature extraction skills, our suggested approach creates a system that can identify and stop intrusion attempts in real-time. The evaluation of the study additionally makes use of the NSL-KDD and CICIDS 2017 datasets. DAE integration yields an unequaled accuracy of 99.991% when the CICIDS 2017 dataset is used, and an accuracy of 99.4% when the NSL-KDD dataset is used. The CICIDS 2017 dataset analysis reveals several notable performance measures, including an accuracy of 1.0, a precision of 0.995, and an F1-score of 0.998. Analyses of the NSL-KDD dataset also produce outstanding results, with an F1-score of 0.989, recall of 0.991, accuracy of 0.994, and precision of 0.984. The results also show how well the suggested DAE-based intrusion detection method works to stop unauthorized users from accessing IoT devices, which lowers the risk of issues with system integrity, privacy, and security. By strengthening resilience against evolving cyber threats in the networked Internet of Things landscape, this research enhances cybersecurity strategies tailored to address the unique challenges encountered by IoT ecosystems.

This study examines the effect of UV irradiation on the oxidation stability of Linum usitatissimum oil, presenting possible changes in the phytochemical profile due to photo-oxidation. GC–MS analysis of the oils identified 11 fatty acid compounds with a high percentage of unsaturated fatty acids, the most important of which is α-linolenic acid (ALA), known as omega-3 (48.88 %), also significant profiles of phytosterol and tcocopherol isomers rich in β-Sitosterol and γ-tocopherols respectively. As well as physicochemical properties such as free fatty acids (FFA %), peroxide value (PV) and iodine value (IV), and nutritional indexes that determine the significant changes observed during the oxidation process, the most important of which is the progressive increase in acidity, peroxide, conjugated dienes and trienes and degrees of unsaturation over 8 h of UV exposure. High levels of carotenoids and phenolic compounds (TPC) protect and enhance oil quality in the face of irradiation, so a significantly small difference is observed between irradiated and non-irradiated oil during photo-oxidation.

Peanuts are highly valued for their abundance of essential nutrients and health-promoting phenolic compounds. Peanut press cake, an inexpensive and underutilized agro-industrial by-product of oil production, is typically discarded or used as animal feed. This study investigated the influence of thermal processing and varietal disparities on the nutritional composition, phenolic content, and biological properties of peanut flour and oilcake flour, aiming to enhance their value as food ingredients. The findings showed that roasting significantly increased the oil (9.98 ± 0.11–44.13 ± 0.10 %), ash (1.28 ± 0.01–5.45 ± 0.05 %), carbohydrate contents (0.90 ± 0.01–28.09 ± 0.28 %), and energy value (406.69 ± 0.09–609.13 ± 1.08 kcal/100 g), along with the total polyphenol content (28.64 ± 0.19–62.79 ± 1.18 mg GAE/g), total flavonoid content (4.20 ± 0.07–18.35 ± 0.06 mg QE/g) and antioxidant activity in both peanut flour and its oilcake. Conversely, it led to a reduction in the moisture (1.48 ± 0.09–6.25 ± 0.15 %) and protein content (49.50 ± 0.05–54.24 ± 0.01 %). Notable variations were found between the two peanut varieties in terms of these nutritional parameters. Elemental analysis unveiled significant discrepancies among peanut varieties and with roasting, with potassium (12,237.56 ± 101.36–14,513.34 ± 168.62 mg/kg) emerging as the predominant macro-element followed by phosphorus (6156.86 ± 36.19–8815.22 ± 130.70 mg/kg) and magnesium (3037.92 ± 13.87–4096.44 ± 8.54 mg/kg), while zinc (53.98 ± 0.61–81.77 ± 0.44 mg/kg) predominated among the microelements. Moreover, peanut and oilcake flours demonstrated antibacterial activity against several bacteria. It can be inferred that roasted peanut and oilcake flours offer substantial nutritional value, making them promising candidates for addressing protein-energy malnutrition and serving as valuable ingredients in developing new food products.

Identification of the chemical compositions of fatty acids and tocopherols shows the high content of linum usitatissimum oil (LO) by linolenic acid 55.3735% and γ-tocopherol 570.927 mg/kg, while argania spinosa oil (AO) is known by the dominance of oleic acid 47.77% followed by linoleic acid 31.08% as well as tocopherols by γ-tocopherols 687.485 mg/kg and δ-tocopherols 51.035 mg/kg. This difference in compositions enables us to enrich the low-stability oil and monitor its behavior during storage at a specific time and under specific conditions. In this study, pure linum usitatissimum and argania spinosa oils extracted by cold pressing as well as their formulations at proportions of (LO: AO) respectively: (80:20; 60:40, 50:50; 40:60; 20: 80) were oxidized at 60 °C for 28 days of storage, during which time the pure oils and blends were assessed for oxidative stability by studying their different fatty acid and tocopherol profiles and physicochemical characteristics such as acidity, peroxide value and chlorophyll and carotenoid pigments, as well as nutritional indexes such as the atherogenic index (AI), the thrombogenic index (TI), and the hypocholesterolemic: hypercholesterolemic ratio (HH), ω3:ω6 ratio, also the oxidative susceptibility (OS), and oxidazability value (Cox), and total phenolic compounds (TPC).

Corn silk (Zea mays L.), an abundant agricultural waste, contains various bioactive compounds that exhibit promising health benefits. The current study focuses on development and optimization of corn silk-based instant mix using response surface methodology. The optimized product, with 14.66% corn silk, 10% sugar and 0.22% xanthan gum in a skim milk powder base, scored 0.925 desirability. The physico-chemical and sensory parameters of optimized mix closely aligned with expected values. The instant mix packaged in metallised polyester yielded superior preservation of quality indicators over 120 days compared to low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and high-density polyethylene (HDPE). The microbial load in corn silk instant mix was observed across packaging materials and highlighting hydroxyl methyl furfural (HMF) as the primary predictor of product stability, the study calculated a 94.95 days half-life at 10 °C. Corn silk's rich bioactive compound supports its integration into nutraceuticals and instant mixes, mitigating food waste while enhancing nutritional value.Novelty statement.In this study, corn silk powder was utilized for the development of the instant mix. This innovative approach transforms corn silk, typically discarded as agricultural waste, into a commercially sustainable product that delivers the nutrients of corn silk to a broader population. Despite fresh corn silk being a perishable commodity, it has very low storage shelf life. The developed instant mix effectively preserves its nutritional value for up to six months, offering a sustainable and nutritious option for consumers.

The aims of this study are the phytochemical exploration and food valorization of Schinus molle L. (S. molle) and Schinus terebinthifolia Raddi (S. terebinthifolia) from the Rabat, Morocco. Gas chromatography (GC) and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) were used to analyze the chemical composition of the oils extracted from both species by soxhlet and maceration. Moreover, physicochemical characteristics such as lipid quality indexes such as thrombogenic index (TI), atherogenic index (AI), oxidation susceptibility (OS), and calculated oxidability (Cox) were determined. These characteristics included percentage acidity, peroxide, saponification, iodine, specific extinction values, chlorophyll, and carotenoid pigments. As results, the oil yields varied from 7% (S. molle) to 13% (S. terebinthifolia). In addition, unsaturated fatty acids represented the major fraction for S. terebinthifolia (79%) and S. molle (81%). However, S. terebinthifolia contains more saturated fatty acids (20%) than S. molle (16%) with a predominance of linoleic acid (59.53% and 55%, C18,2), oleic acid (19.29% and 21.69%, C18,1), and palmitic acid (12.56% and 15.48%, C16,0) in S. molle and S. terebinthifolia, respectively. Moreover, the main sterols are β-sitosterol followed by campesterol and then Δ-5-avenasterol, while β-sitosterol varies according to the species and the extraction method. Results revealed also that campesterol is influenced by the extraction results in a content of 179.66 mg/kg (soxhlet) and 63.48 mg/kg (maceration) for S. molle, while S. terebinthifolia yeilds concentrations of 170 mg/kg and 138 mg/kg, then Δ-5-avenasterol, which present with (117 mg/kg and 136 mg/kg), (34 mg/kg and 80 mg/kg) of the total amount of sterols for the oils extracted by soxhlet and maceration, respectively. In addition, there are favorable physicochemical properties for all oils, such as chlorophylls (0.4 to 0.8 mg/kg) and carotenoids (0.7 to 2 mg/kg). However, further investigations are needed to determine other chemical compounds of both extracts as well as to evaluate their biological and health benefits.

In the last decade, there's been a rising emphasis on eco-friendly solvents in industry and academia due to environmental concerns. Vegetable oils are now recognized as a practical, non-toxic option for extracting phytochemicals from herbs. This study presents a novel, green, and user-friendly method for extracting phenolic content from Crocus sativus L. waste using ultrasound. It replaces conventional organic solvents with sustainable sunflower oil, making the process eco-friendly and cost-effective. The effects of temperature (18–52 °C), ultrasonic time (5–55 min), and solid-solvent ratio (5–31 g/100 mL) were assessed by applying response surface methodology (RSM) and Central composite design. The combined impact of solid-solvent ratio, temperature, and ultrasonic time led to heightened phenolic content and antioxidant activity in the enriched oil. However, when these variables were at their maximum levels, there was a decline in these attributes. The specific conditions found to be ideal were a solid-to-liquid ratio of 26 g/100 mL, a temperature of 45 °C, and a duration of 45 min. The optimum extraction condition yielded the expected highest phenolic content (317.15 mg/ Kg), and antioxidant activity (89.34%). The enriched oil with flower saffron enabled the utilization of renewable natural ingredients, ensuring the production of a healthy extract or product. Also, enriched oils find diverse applications in areas such as food, aquaculture, and cosmetics.

Extensive research is being conducted globally on incorporating fibres into concrete to enhance its mechanical properties. This study aims to evaluate the strength characteristics of fibre-reinforced concrete (FRC) with varying mix proportions. 18 concrete samples of M-25 grade were prepared, incorporating different percentages of steel and glass fibers. Six samples contained glass fibres (GF) at 5%, 10%, and 15% by weight of cement, and six contained steel fibres (SF) at the same percentages. Additionally, two samples were prepared with a combination of 5% glass fibres and 10% steel fibres and two samples with 10% glass fibres and 5% steel fibres. These were compared to a control sample without fibre reinforcement. The compressive strength of the FRC was assessed at 7 and 28 days. The findings indicate that higher percentages of glass fibers had a notably negative impact on compressive strength, while the inclusion of steel fibers had a comparatively lesser effect. The maximum compressive strength was observed by including 5% steel fibres at 28 days. However, increasing the fiber content beyond this percentage resulted in a reduction in compressive strength. The lowest compressive strength was recorded in samples containing 15% glass fibers at 28 days.

The composition, structure and distribution of vegetation are influenced by diverse environmental factors. Such research inquiries provide the initial data for future conservation and management efforts. The study area of North Waziristan district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan comprises diverse forests of the Spin Ghar Mountain Range (at the border areas of Pakistan and Afghanistan), and a highly remote, mountainous, and unexplored region. There was little information on the complex relationships that existed between the study area's ambient environment and vegetation. This study hypothesized that the varying environmental complexity in the study area and vegetation variety may be significantly correlated, and the ranking of leading influencing factors might enhance our ecological understanding. Cotton, a key source of income for Pakistan, has suffered significantly by cotton leaf curl disease (CLCuD) since 1990. This disease is caused by a complex of phylogenetically-related begomovirus (genus Begomovirus, family Geminiviridae) species and a specific betasatellite (genus Betasatellite, family Tolecusatellitidae), cotton leaf curl Multan betasatellite. Additionally, another DNA satellite called alphasatellite (family Alphasatellitidae), is also frequently associated. All these virus components are vectored by a single species of whitefly (Bemisia tabaci). While many factors affect cotton productivity, including cotton variety, sowing time, and environmental cues such as temperature, humidity, and rainfall, CLCuD is a major biotic constraint. Although the understanding of begomoviruses transmission by whiteflies has advanced significantly over the past three decades, however, the in-field seasonal dynamics of the viruses in the insect vector remained an enigma. This study aimed to assess the levels of virus and betasatellite in whiteflies collected from cotton plants throughout the cotton growing season from 2014 to 2016. Notably, begomovirus levels showed no consistent pattern, with minimal variations, ranging from 0.0017 to 0.0074 ng.μg–1 of the genomic DNA in 2014, 0.0356 to 0.113 ng.μg–1 of the genomic DNA in 2015, and 0.0517 to 0.0791 ng.μg–1 of the genomic DNA in 2016. However, betasatellite levels exhibited a distinct pattern. During 2014 and 2015, it steadily increased throughout the sampling period (May to September). While 2016 showed a similar trend from the start of sampling (July) to September but a decline in October (end of sampling). Such a study has not been conducted previously, and could potentially provide valuable insights about the epidemiology of the virus complex causing CLCuD and possible means of controlling losses due to it.

In the present work, Einstein's vacuum field equation is investigated analytically to explore the solitary wave solutions. This equation arises in mathematical physics, having meaningful applications in the general theory of relativity. This concept is crucial for numerous challenging experiments and space missions. The generalized exponential rational function and modified auxiliary equation approaches are used to obtain the exact solitary wave solution. Various types of solutions are extracted, including exponential functions, hyperbolic functions, trigonometric functions, and rational forms. Additionally, a stability analysis for the Einstein vacuum field equation is conducted. Appropriate parameters are chosen to draw 3-D and corresponding contour plots of some solutions, which clearly demonstrate the solitary wave behaviors. The obtained results support the idea that applying these approaches is the most effective strategy for resolving any nonlinear issues that may arise in science and technology.

Catalase can decompose hydrogen peroxide in plants under controlled and stressed conditions. In a stressed environment, an increase in hydrogen peroxide production makes catalase activity a major defense system for plant growth. The current study was conducted to evaluate the catalase activity of the pre-isolated and identified bacterial strains Bacillus aryabhattai (AN30), Bacillus megaterium (AN24), Bacillus megaterium (AN31) and Bacillus megaterium (AN35) and their potential for rice seedling growth promotion. These strains were characterized for quantitative catalase, urease, siderophore and exopolysaccharide production using LB media. Subsequently, the effectiveness of these strains was checked by quantifying the catalase activity in the rhizosphere, roots and shoots of rice seedlings. The secretion of organic and phenolic compounds produced by the tested strains in liquid culture was also investigated. Plant growth parameters were also studied in a growth room trial. Our results showed that the strain AN24 showed the maximum catalase activity (1.36 mol cm−1), urease activity (1.35 mol cm−1) and exopolysaccharide (4.20 µg mL−1) and siderophore (2.32%) production in LB media. All tested strains showed significantly higher catalase activity in soil compared to the control. Among sole applications, strain AN24 showed better results; however, the consortium application of strains AN24 + AN30 + AN35 + AN31 showed the maximum improvement in dry biomass, shoot and root length, and increase in catalase activity of rice seedlings. The results showed that a consortium of these Bacillus strains with catalase activity has greater potential to enhance the antioxidant defense system and growth promotion of rice seedlings. However, further experimentation under natural conditions is required before using these strains as potential bioinoculants for improving rice growth and yield.

Abstract One of the main goals of ecological studies is to disentangle the dynamics that underlie the spatiotemporal distribution of biodiversity and further functions of the ecosystem. However, due to many ecological and geopolitical reasons, many remote areas with high plant species diversity have not been assessed using newly based analytical approaches for vegetation characterization. Here, we classified and characterized different vegetation types (i.e., major plant communities) based on indicator species and on the influence of different environmental gradients in the Himalayan mixed coniferous forest, Pakistan. For that, we addressed the following questions: Does the vegetation composition of the Himalayan mixed coniferous forest correlate with climatic, topographic, geographic, and edaphic variables? Is it possible to identify plant communities through indicator species in relation to environmental gradients using multivariate approaches? Can this multivariate be helpful for conservation planning? During four consecutive years we assessed the vegetation composition and environmental variables (21 variables divided in geographic, climatic, topographic, and edaphic groups) of 156 50 m-trasects between an elevation of 2000–4000 m. Using newly based analytical approaches for community characterization, we found a total of 218 plant species clustered into four plant communities with the influence of environmental gradients. The highest index of similarity was recorded between Pinus-Cedrus-Viburnum (PCV) and Viburnum-Pinus-Abies (VPA) communities, and the highest index of dissimilarity was recorded between PCV and Abies-Juniperus-Picea (AJP) communities. Among these four communities, highest number of plant species (156 species) was recorded in PCV, maximum alpha diversity (H’ = 3.68) was reported in VPA, highest Simpson index (0.961) and Pielou’s evenness (0.862) were reported in VPA and AJP. The edaphic gradients (i.e., organic matter, phosphorous, pH and soil texture) and climatic factors (temperature, humidity) were the strongest environmental gradients that were responsible for structuring and hosting the diverse plant communities in mixed coniferous forest. Finally, the Himalayan mixed coniferous structure is more influenced by the spatial turnover beta-diversity process (βsim) than by the species loss (nestedness-resultant, βsne). Our analysis of the vegetation structure along the environmental gradient in the Himalayan mixed coniferous forest supported by sophisticated analytical approaches reveled indicator species groups, which are associated to specific microclimatic zones (i.e., vegetation communities). Within this focus, we side with the view that these results can support conservation planning and management for similar and different areas providing mitigating and preventive measures to reduce potential negative impacts, such as anthropic and climatic.

The Tor browser is widely used for anonymity, providing layered encryption for enhanced privacy. Besides its positive uses, it is also popular among cybercriminals for illegal activities such as trafficking, smuggling, betting, and illicit trade. There is a need for Tor Browser forensics to identify its use in unlawful activities and explore its consequences. This research analyzes artifacts generated by Tor on Windows-based systems. The methodology integrates forensic techniques into incident responses per NIST SP (800-86), exploring areas such as registry, storage, network, and memory using tools like bulk-extractor, autopsy, and regshot. We propose an automated PowerShell script that detects Tor usage and retrieves artifacts with minimal user interaction. Finally, this research performs timeline analysis and artifact correlation for a contextual understanding of event sequences in memory and network domains, ultimately contributing to improved incident response and accountability.

Automobile exhaust releases different types of pollutants that are at great risk to the air quality of the environment and incidental distress to the nature of roadside plants. Mimusops elengi L. is an evergreen medicinal tree cultivated along the roadside of Lahore City. This research aimed to investigate physiological, morphological and genomorphic characteristics of M. elengi under the influence of air pollution from vehicles. Healthy and mature leaves were collected from trees on Canal Bank and Mall roads of Lahore as the experimental sites and control sites were 20 km away from the experimental site. Different physiochemical, morphological, air pollution tolerance index (APTI) and molecular analysis for the detection of DNA damage were performed through comet assay. Objective This pilot study aimed to evaluate the perception and satisfaction of deselected male Academy professional footballers towards a medical after-care intervention.Methods A quasiexperimental study design, with deselected players (aged≥18 years) at a single Premier League Academy during the 2022/2023 season, were invited to participate. The intervention included individualised health recommendations, key medical information and signposting to key support resources. Participants’ perceptions and satisfaction were assessed through an electronic survey. Descriptive analyses (mean, SD, frequency and/or range) were performed for all variables.Results Twelve out of 15 eligible participants (80% response rate) provided informed consent and completed the survey (mean age: 19.5 years). All (100%) of the participants were satisfied with receiving the medical information. Ten out of 12 (83.3%) participants agreed that all Academy players should receive this medical intervention on deselection. Nine (75%) players felt more prepared for the next steps in their careers due to the medical information shared with them.Conclusion Deselected male Academy footballers expressed high satisfaction with an individualised medical intervention which shared key health information and signposted them to important resources (eg, mental health). Future studies across multiple clubs should explore the broader impact of this intervention among deselected male and female Academy footballers. Football clubs should consider integrating a medical after-care process for deselected players as part of routine care.

Introduction: Neurodevelopmental disorder with hypotonia, neuropathy, and deafness (NEDHND, OMIM #617519) is an autosomal recessive condition arising from variations in the SPTBN4 gene. This gene codes for βIV-spectrin, a non-erythrocytic member of the β-spectrin family. Homozygous variants in SPTBN4 disrupt the cytoskeletal machinery responsible for localization of ion channels and functioning of axonal domains, leading to neurological dysfunction. Case presentation: Here, we report three siblings with a homozygous frameshift indel c.1799–1800delGC in the SPTBN4, all presenting with severe muscular hypotonia, dysphagia, absent or limited speech, delayed gross motor development, global developmental delay, and intellectual disability. This condition has been associated with numerous secondary features. Conclusion: The phenotype reported in our family contributes to establishing the core symptoms associated with mutations in SPTBN4, with varying levels of developmental delay, intellectual disability, limited speech, and congenital hypotonia.

ABSTRACTIn the current study, wheat varieties Inqulab-91 and AS-2002 were milled from a roller mill and analyzed for chemical characteristics through Near Infra-Red spectroscopy. Friabilin was extracted with Triton X-114 buffer and evaluated on sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis against known molecular weight protein standards. Current results show that the chemical constituents and friabilin revealed significant variation and uneven distribution among flour streams. In both wheat varieties, break streams showed higher protein, moisture, gluten, Zeleny and ash values. Inqualb-91 break streams had a higher lipid content than AS-2002 flour streams, but no clear trend was identified. The 15 kDa band was absent in M3, T2, sizing and low-grade flour of Inqulab-91 while the faint band was present in the remaining streams. Among the remaining AS-2002 mill streams, B2, B4, M3, M5, T1, and sizing showed a prominent 15 kDa band, while the rest showed a faint band. Friabilin depicted a positive correlation with all constituents except fat in AS-2002 while a negative correlation with gluten, Zeleny and fat contents for Inqulab-91.

Abstract Background Developed in 2019, the Community Rapid Intervention Service (CRIS) is a community intervention service aiming to prevent hospital admissions. CRIS provides a response within two hours to patients with sub-acute medical needs in their usual place of residence. This evaluation aimed to identify challenges and facilitators to implementation of the service, with a view to informing future service development, optimising patient care and disseminating learning to other areas looking to implement similar services. Methods This study used the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR) as an evaluation framework. We conducted semi-structured interviews with local healthcare system leaders, clinicians that worked within the CRIS, and clinicians who interfaced with the CRIS. The CFIR was used to guide data collection and analysis. Two Community of Practice (CoP) meetings were held to gather stakeholders’ perspectives of the evaluation. Results Three key themes were identified from the analysis of 13 interviews: contextual factors influencing implementation, service identity and navigating complexity. Contextual factors such the influence of the Covid 19 pandemic upon health services and the expansion of the CRIS were discussed by participants. The adaptability of the service was deemed both a facilitator and challenge of implementation. Ways to build-on and improve the existing CRIS model were suggested. Conclusion This evaluation has shown that the CRIS may need to be redefined with clarity provided as to how the service interfaces with other urgent and planned care offered in acute, primary, community and social services. Structuring the evaluation around the CFIR was helpful in identifying facilitators and challenges that influenced the implementation of the CRIS.

The Metaverse brings together components of parallel processing computing platforms, the digital development of physical systems, cutting-edge machine learning, and virtual identity to uncover a fully digitalized environment with equal properties to the real world. It possesses more rigorous requirements for connection, including safe access and data privacy, which are necessary with the advent of Metaverse technology. Traditional, centralized, and network-centered solutions fail to provide a resilient identity management solution. There are multifaceted security and privacy issues that hinder the secure adoption of this game-changing technology in contemporary cyberspace. Moreover, there is a need to dedicate efforts towards a secure-by-design Metaverse that protects the confidentiality, integrity, and privacy of the personally identifiable information (PII) of users. In this research paper, we propose a logical substitute for established centralized identity management systems in compliance with the complexity of the Metaverse. This research proposes a sustainable Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI), a fully decentralized identity management system to mitigate PII leaks and corresponding cyber threats on all multiverse platforms. The principle of the proposed framework ensures that the users are the only custodians and proprietors of their own identities. In addition, this article provides a comprehensive approach to the implementation of the SSI principles to increase interoperability and trustworthiness in the Metaverse. Finally, the proposed framework is validated using mathematical modeling and proved to be stringent and resilient against modern-day cyber attacks targeting Metaverse platforms.

In this study, a new species of the subgenus Pullus belonging to the Scymnus genus from Pakistan, Scymnus (Pullus) cardi sp. nov., was described and illustrated, with information on its distribution, host plants, and prey. Additionally, the completed mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of the new species using high-throughput sequencing technology was obtained. The genome contains the typical 37 genes (13 protein-coding genes, two ribosomal RNAs, and 22 transfer RNAs) and a non-coding control region, and is arranged in the same order as that of the putative ancestor of beetles. The AT content of the mitogenome is approximately 85.1%, with AT skew and GC skew of 0.05 and −0.43, respectively. The calculated values of relative synonymous codon usage (RSCU) determine that the codon UUA (L) has the highest frequency. Furthermore, we explored the phylogenetic relationship among 59 representatives of the Coccinellidae using Bayesian inference and maximum likelihood methods, the results of which strongly support the monophyly of Coccinellinae. The phylogenetic results positioned Scymnus (Pullus) cardi in a well-supported clade with Scymnus (Pullus) loewii and Scymnus (Pullus) rubricaudus within the genus Scymnus and the tribe Scymnini. The mitochondrial sequence of S. (P.) cardi will contribute to the mitochondrial genome database and provide helpful information for the identification and phylogeny of Coccinellidae.

For the study of heavy metals impact on human beings, areas in Sargodha city that were supplied with various types of fertilizers were chosen. The three industrial areas; (Bhalwal, Sillanwali, and Sahiwal) of this city were explored for research reasons. The researchers wanted to know how much heavy metal was in the soil, food crops, and human. Excess fertilizer use contributes to global pollution. Farmyard manure, urea, and potassium chloride were used on Site 1; urea phosphate, manure, and ammonium sulphate were used on Site 2; and super phosphate, ammonium phosphate, and nitrate phosphate were used on Site 3. Samples of commonly used food crops, their respective soils and blood of residents who ingested the food crops of the studied area were collected. The zinc and lead levels in soil (8.30-16.80 and 1.80-12.71 mg/kg) and food crops (0.26-2.02 and 2.26-4.70 mg/kg) were far lower than WHO permitted limits. Blood mean concentration of both Zn (2.30-4.30 mg/L) and Ni (0.24-0.70 mg/L) were found maximum in residents of Site 3. The values of pollution load index, bioconcentration factor, enrichment factor for both zinc and lead were (0.18- 0.37 a n d 0.220-0.948), (0.027-0.138 and 0.316-1.705), (0.020-0.144 and 0.515-2.780), respectively. Daily intake of metal (0.004-0.008 and 0.001-0.002 mg/kg/day) and health risk index (0.0001-0.016 and 0.005-0.115) values were observed to be lower in individuals for Zn and Pb, respectively. Friction stir welding is a solid-state welding process used extensively for aluminium alloys. EN AW-1100 alloy is mostly used for its exceptional corrosion resistance, high ductility, high thermal and electrical conductivities, and cost-effectiveness. This study is focused on the optimisation of friction stir welding parameters to achieve enhanced mechanical properties of 5mm thick EN AW-1100 alloy plates welded with a single pass, using Taguchi L9 orthogonal array and ANOVA analysis. Experimental results revealed that maximum tensile strength of 79 MPa and percentage elongation of 38.87 % were achieved. The maximum Vickers hardness achieved in the stir zone was 34.15. These results were used for optimisation using Minitab and it was determined that 2000 RPM, 30 mm·min−1 traverse speed and square probe profile came out to be the best parameters for maximum tensile strength. 4000 RPM, 30 mm·min−1 traverse speed and square probe geometry were the best parameters for maximum hardness in the stir zone. ANOVA analysis showed that the most significant parameter for tensile strength was traverse speed. None of the considered parameters were influencing the hardness value in the stir zone at a 95 % confidence level.

Background: Academic procrastination is the postponement of educational activities. Most university students try to keep themselves away from academic activities which might lead to procrastination and unsatisfactory performance. Objective: To assess the level of academic procrastination and its association with academic performance and the demographic characteristics of undergraduate students. Methods: This cross-sectional analytical study using a convenient sampling technique was conducted on 250 health sciences undergraduate students at Sohail University, Karachi, Pakistan from August to October 2022. Ethical approval and data collection permission were obtained. The Procrastination Assessment Scale for Students was used to gather data. The SPSS version-24 was used for statistical analysis. Simple descriptive statistics, spearman’s rank order correlation coefficient tests and independent sample t-test was applied. Results: Mostly participants (53.6%) were female, 93.2% were single, and 46 % in the generic nursing program and 54% were in 3rd & 4th year. Students’ academic performance was insignificant with all the domains except writing a term (p-value 0.22, 0.5, 0.26, 0.37, 0.31 and 0.041 respectively). A significant relationship of students’ gender, education level and study program with academic procrastination was found (p-value 0.004, 0.021 and 0.002 respectively). Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and Pharm-D programs did not show as much procrastination as compared to Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program (p-value 0.021). Conclusion: This study showed the considerable behaviour of procrastination among undergraduates. There was a significant association between writing a paper and academic achievement. In addition, academic procrastination was significantly associated with gender and the enrolled program of the participants.

Electrocatalytic water splitting is regarded as a promising approach to produce hydrogen, which is a clean and renewable fuel. The process is mainly constrained due to the sluggish proton-coupled four-electrode transfer process at the anode for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) with high overpotential requirement. Herein this work, we used a one-step hydrothermal method for the in-situ synthesis of CoSe nanoparticles over the surface of carbon nanotube-based fiber (CNTs fiber) and utilized it as a bifunctional electrocatalyst for the electrochemical water splitting process. Surface-modified fiber showed excellent performance towards OER with a low overpotential (η10 = 414 mV) and Tafel slope (77 mVdec−1). We also exploited the same material as cathode, which exhibited an excellent hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) at the counterpart with improved catalytic performance as compared to bare CNTs materials. During the HER process in the cathodic potential region, the electrocatalyst displayed a current density of 10 mAcm−2 at an overpotential of 496 mV. Furthermore, the electrocatalyst exhibited excellent performance during the testing for the overall water splitting. The outcomes reveal that the fabricated electrode can be potentially applied as an efficient and flexible electrode to derive the hydrogen as fuels during the overall electrochemical water splitting reaction.

Missing values in rainfall records might result in erroneous predictions and inefficient management practices with significant economic, environmental, and social consequences. This is particularly important for rainfall datasets in Peninsular Malaysia (PM) due to the high level of missingness that can affect the inherent pattern in the highly variable time series. In this work, 21 target rainfall stations in the Johor River Basin (JRB) with daily data between 1970 and 2015 were used to examine 19 different multiple imputation methods that were carried out using the Multivariate Imputation by Chained Equations (MICE) package in R. For each station, artificial missing data were added at rates of up to 5%, 10%, 20%, and 30% for different types of missingness, namely, Missing Completely At Random (MCAR), Missing At Random (MAR), and Missing Not At Random (MNAR), leaving the original missing data intact. The imputation quality was evaluated based on several statistical performance metrics, namely mean absolute error (MAE), root mean square error (RMSE), normalized root mean square error (NRMSE), Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency (NSE), modified degree of agreement (MD), coefficient of determination (R2), Kling-Gupta efficiency (KGE), and volumetric efficiency (VE), which were later ranked and aggregated by using the compromise programming index (CPI) to select the best method. The results showed that linear regression predicted values (norm.predict) consistently ranked the highest under all types and levels of missingness. For example, under MAR, MNAR, and MCAR, this method showed the lowest MAE values, ranging between 0.78 and 2.25, 0.93–2.57, and 0.87–2.43, respectively. It also consistently shows higher NSE and R2 values of 0.71–0.92, 0.6–0.92, and 0.66–0.91, and 0.77–0.92, 0.71–0.93, and 0.75–0.92 under MAR, MCAR, and MNAR, respectively. The methods of mean, rf, and cart also appear to be efficient. The incorporation of the compromise programming index (CPI) as a decision-support tool has enabled an objective assessment of the output from the multiple performance metrics for the ranking and selection of the top-performing method. During validation, the Probability Density Function (PDF) demonstrated that even with up to 30% missingness, the shape of the distribution was retained after imputation compared to the actual data. The methodology proposed in this study can help in choosing suitable imputation methods for other tropical rainfall datasets, leading to improved accuracy in rainfall estimation and prediction.

The focus of this research is to develop a specialized multidisciplinary design optimization framework for composite sandwich-structured radomes. Radomes play a crucial role in safeguarding antenna systems from challenging environmental conditions. However, they can adversely impact the electromagnetic performance of the antenna. Unlike traditional approaches that separately address electromagnetic performance and mechanical responses, our framework considers both aspects concurrently, resulting in a more efficient process. The main objectives of the optimization are to enhance electromagnetic performance while also accounting for deformations, material integrity, and structural stability. To evaluate the electromagnetic performance, a 3-dimensional numerical simulation is employed to analyze parameters such as electromagnetic transmission loss, bore sight error, and side lobe characteristics. The model's accuracy is verified through experimental testing in an anechoic chamber, utilizing a hybrid sandwich structure. The results indicate minimal attenuation, with an average loss of only 1.5 % in the transmission of antenna signals, using the proposed radome thickness. Furthermore, the configuration of the material provides structural stability, ensuring a factor of safety of 2.5 while satisfying operational constraints. Hence, the proposed multidisciplinary optimization model represents an efficient and feasible approach to radome design. This advancement in the field equips engineers and researchers with a valuable tool to develop dependable and effective radome systems.

Astrocyte-derived L-lactate was shown to confer beneficial effects on synaptic plasticity and cognitive functions. However, how astrocytic Gi signaling in the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) modulates L-lactate levels and schema memory is not clear. Here, using chemogenetic approach and well-established behavioral paradigm, we demonstrate that astrocytic Gi pathway activation in the ACC causes significant impairments in flavor-place paired associates (PAs) learning, schema formation, and PA memory retrieval in rats. It also impairs new PA learning even if a prior associative schema exists. These impairments are mediated by decreased L-lactate in the ACC due to astrocytic Gi activation. Concurrent exogenous L-lactate administration bilaterally into the ACC rescues these impairments. Furthermore, we show that the impaired schema memory formation is associated with a decreased neuronal mitochondrial biogenesis caused by decreased L-lactate level in the ACC upon astrocytic Gi activation. Our study also reveals that L-lactate-mediated mitochondrial biogenesis is dependent on monocarboxylate transporter 2 (MCT2) and NMDA receptor activity – discovering a previously unrecognized signaling role of L-lactate. These findings expand our understanding of the role of astrocytes and L-lactate in the brain functions.

Despite the fact that fertilizers have been used for millennia for sustainable crop production, this high and considerable dependence on fertilizers heightens environmental concerns with the indirect human exposure due to accumulation of toxins in food chain via soil contamination. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the application of fertilizers to the soil and their effect on the accumulation of copper and nickel in spinach (Spinacia oleracea), garlic (Allium sativum), wheat (Triticum aestivum), maize (Zea mays), and barley (Hordeum vulgare); as well as potential health concerns associated with consuming vegetables cultivated on this contaminated land. Samples of available soil, food crops, and human blood were collected from three different Tehsils: Bhalwal, Sahiwal, and Silanwali and were regarded as site 1, site 2 and site 3 respectively. Urea, farmyard manure, and potassium chloride were delivered to Site 1; urea phosphate, manure, and ammonium sulphate were delivered to Site 2; and superphosphate, ammonium phosphate, and nitrate phosphate were delivered to Site 3. Data was subjected to statistical analysis for computing out ANOVA and correlation. Analysis revealed that minimum copper concentration was found in the soil of T. aestivum grown at Site-1 while the inhabitants of Site 3 had the highest concentration of Cu in their blood. The highest level of HIR was found in the human beings that ate the S. oleracea grown at Site 3. It is strongly advised that fertilizers be used sparingly, as their excessive use can cause human health risks.

This article investigates the transmission of polio-virus disease in the human population. The classical model is considered for studying fatal disease. First of all, the model is converted into the fractal fractional epidemic model. Then, the existence of the solution for the said model is ensured with the help of the fixed point theory. Points of equilibria for the model are worked out. The basic reproduction number is described and its role in the disease communication and stability of the model is examined by some standard results. Simulated graphs are also plotted to support the pre-results and claims. Lastly, the findings of the study are presented.

Digital Twin (DT) in Healthcare 4.0 (H4.0) presents a digital model of the patient with all its biological properties and characteristics. One of the application areas is patient respiration monitoring for enhanced patient care and decision support to healthcare professionals. Obtrusive methods of patient monitoring create hindrances in the patient’s daily routine. This research presents a novel Respiration DT (ResDT) model based on Wi-Fi Carrier State Information (CSI), improved signal processing, and Machine Learning (ML) algorithms for monitoring and classification (binary and multi-class) of patient respiration. A Wi-Fi sensor ESP32 with Wi-Fi CSI was utilized for the collection of respiration data. This provides an added advantage of unobtrusive monitoring of patient vital signs. The Patient’s Breaths Per Minute (BPM) is estimated from raw sensor data through the integration of multiple signal processing methodologies for denoising (smoothing and filtering) and dimensionality reduction (PCA, SVM, EMD, EMD-PCA). Multiple filters and dimensionality reduction methodologies are compared for accurate BPM estimation. The elliptical filter provides a relatively better estimation of the BPM with 87.5% accurate estimation as compared to other bandpass filters such as Butterworth (BF), Chebyshev type 1 Filter (CH1), Chebyshev type 2 Filter (CH2), and wavelet Decomposition (62.5%, 75%, 68.75%, and 75% respectively). Principal Component Analysis (PCA) was performed to provide better dimensionality reduction with 87.5% accurate BPM values compared to EMD, SVD, and EMD-PCA (57%, 44%, and 44% respectively). Additionally, the fine tree algorithm, from the implemented 21 ML supervised classification algorithms with K-fold cross-validation, was observed to be the optimal choice for multi-class and binary-class classification problems in the presented ResDT model with 96.9% and 95.8% accuracy respectively.

In this article, an analytical and numerical analysis of a computer virus epidemic model is presented. To more thoroughly examine the dynamics of the virus, the classical model is transformed into a fractional order model. The Caputo differential operator is applied to achieve this. The Jacobian approach is employed to investigate the model's stability. To investigate the model's numerical solution, a hybridized numerical scheme called the Grunwald Letnikov nonstandard finite difference (GL-NSFD) scheme is created. Some essential characteristics of the population model are scrutinized, including positivity boundedness and scheme stability. The aforementioned features are validated using test cases and computer simulations. The mathematical graphs are all detailed. It is also investigated how the fundamental reproduction number $ \mathfrak{R}_0 $ functions in stability analysis and illness dynamics.

Zika virus infection is a vastly transmitted disease among humans. It was carried worldwide by international travelers. In 2016, Zika virus infection was present in more than 20 countries and territories in America. Thousands of cases were diagnosed in Cabo Verde, western Africa. Fifty-seven regions suffered from Zika virus in 2020, and the World Health Organization reported more than one hundred thousand cases worldwide. In this work, the modeling and transmission dynamics of Zika virus are studied dynamically and numerically. Positivity, boundedness, reproduction number, equilibria, and local stability are part of the numerical analysis. New nonstandard numerical techniques are examined for the said model. The primary purpose is to maintain the continuous model’s behavior and dynamical properties. The proposed nonstandard finite approximation is studied according to the consistency and local stability of the solutions. Some numerical examples clearly show the improvement of the new schemes compared to other well-known methods.

Purpose: This study examined the effect of financial leverage on firms’ performance. The study examined the phenomenon in the background of financial crisis. Methodology: For detailed investigation, the study selected 1879 firms from different countries of the world. In the meantime, the study selected a sample of 263 firms from domestic economy of Pakistan. Firm level secondary data of 2005-2012 were used for analysis purposes. Panel regression model is applied, and interactive dummy were added to probe the effect of leverage in crisis period. Findings: The study found a negative effect of leverage on firms’ performance. During the crisis period, leverage remained helpful to absorb the negative effect of crisis on firms selected from different countries. The similar trend for firms in Pakistan was, however not observed. Based on study results, it is concluded that the leverage plays a substantial role in firms and extreme care is needed in its adjustment. Furthermore, behaviour and dynamics of firms in Pakistan are different from many other countries. Implications: The local dynamics and circumstances should be considered in designing the capital structure of the firms.

Nickel (Ni) is essential for plant metabolism but is dangerous to most plants and other organisms when present in large concentrations. In this study, nickel (Ni) was chosen as an important environmental pollutant and toxic substance due to its widespread availability, and high persistence, causing soil pollution and serious environmental problems. The main aim of the study is to determine the Ni content in various wheat varieties and soil grown in various water regimes (sewage water, groundwater and industrial water) in Punjab, Pakistan. The Ni concentrations were determined via the ecological environment (water, soils) and below (roots) and above-ground plant organs (shoots and wheat grains) and phytostabilization potential assessment using various pollution indices. The results showed that the mean Ni concentration in different wheat varieties varied from 1.35 to 2.45 mg/kg, 1.17 to 2.42 mg/kg, 1.09 to 2.10 mg/kg and 0.99 to 1.54 mg/kg in soil, root, shoot, and grains, respectively. Research findings also revealed that the nickel concentration in soil and grains is within the safe limits and all the indices for Ni are less than 1. As a result, the studied wheat cultivars appear to be safe for consumption. However, it can be said that the continuous use of wastewater for irrigation may pose health risks for living things in the food chain.

Wastewater sources contain enormous amounts of nutrients for plant growth. This study aimed to define the metal accumulation in the goosefoot plant (Chenopodium album L.) of wastewater use in agricultural irrigation and to evaluate the risks of this accumulation to human health. The present research was performed in field conditions in Khushab, Pakistan. The Cd, Cu, Cr, Fe, Zn, Ni, and Mn concentrations were determined with the analysis performed using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer-AAS. Heavy metal concentrations in goosefoot samples irrigated with groundwater (GWI), canal water (CWI) and sugar mill water (MWI) ranged from 0.84 to 1.08, 0.55 to 0.78, 0.23 to 0.70, 2.09 to 5.56, 2.84 to 13.53, 0.53 to 1.13 and 0.32 to 0.39 mg/kg for Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Ni, Zn, and Mn, respectively. According to the statistical analyses, wastewater applications had a non-significant effect on Cr, Cu, and Zn concentrations in C. album samples collected from three sites, and a significant effect on Cd, Fe, Mn, and Ni concentrations (p>0.05). The results also showed that the health risk index value of cadmium was higher than 1. According to these results, long-term consumption of C. album samples grown in the study area may cause an accumulation of Cd in the human body and diseases in many tissues and organs.
