ObjectiveTo conduct a meta-analysis of the prevalent characteristics of the injury-related behaviors among adolescents in China based on Chinese literature, so as to inform the prevention and control of injury-related behaviors of this population.MethodsA cross-sectional study on the prevalent characteristics of adolescent injury-related behaviors was conducted with the data collected from CNKI, VIP, Wanfang Data, CBM, PubMed, and Web of Science. The review included publications from the inception of the databases to November 2023. Meta-analysis was performed with Stata 15.1 software.ResultsA total of 40 articles were included in this study, and the meta-analysis results showed that cycling violation rate was 38% (95%CI: 32%‒43%), walking violation rate was 29% (95%CI: 22%‒36%), rate of unsafe swimming was 13% (95%CI: 11%‒14%), suicidal ideation rate was 13% (95%CI: 12%‒15%) and the prevalence of fighting was 19% (95%CI: 17%‒22%). Subgroup analysis showed that the cycling violation rate was (44%) for boys and 34% (95%CI: 28%‒40%) for girls. Adolescents in Northeast, East, and Southwest of China had the highest rate of cycling violation (44%), of which junior high school students had the highest rate of violation [42% (95%CI: 36%‒49%)]. As for the walking violation rate, male students [29% (95%CI: 21%‒37%)] was higher than that of female students [22% (95%CI: 15%‒30%)]. Adolescents in North of China had the highest rate of walking violation [54% (95%CI: 30%‒76%)], of which vocational school students accounted for 38% (95%CI:21%‒56%) of the total violation. In terms of the detection rate of unsafe swimming, male students [18% (95%CI: 14%‒24%)] was higher than that of female students [8% (95%CI: 6%‒10%)]. Adolescents in Central South China had the highest rate of unsafe swimming [15% (95%CI: 12%‒18%)], of which, vocational school students accounted for the highest [15% (95%CI: 10%‒19%)]. When it comes to the prevalence of suicidal ideation, female students [16% (95%CI: 13%‒19%)] was higher than that of male students [13% (95%CI: 11%‒15%)]. Adolescents in Southwest of China had the highest rate of suicidal ideation [17% (95%CI: 10%‒25%)], of which high school students accounted for the highest [15% (95%CI: 12%‒18%)]. Finally, the detection rate of fights was 30% (95%CI: 26%‒34%) for boys and 11% (95%CI: 10%‒14%) for girls. Adolescents from Southwest of China had the highest rate [29% (95%CI: 24%‒34%)] for fights, and junior high school students accounted for the highest [26% (95%CI: 22%‒31%)].ConclusionThe prevalence of harmful behaviors among adolescents in China is notably high, with statistical differences across gender, region, and school stages. These behaviors pose a risk to adolescent health, underscoring the need for targeted interventions by health and educational authorities.

Hydrological models with conceptual tipping bucket and process-based evapotranspiration formulations are the most common tools in hydrology. However, these models consistently fail to replicate long-term and slow dynamics of a hydrological system, indicating the need for model augmentation and a shift in formulation approach. This study employed an entirely different approach – system dynamics – towards more realistic replication of the observed slow hydrological behaviors at inter-annual and inter-decadal scales. Using the headwaters of Baiyang Lake in China as a case study, the endogenous linking structure of the hydrological system was gradually unraveled from 1982 to 2015 through wavelet analysis, Granger's causality test, and a system dynamics model. The wavelet analysis and Granger's causality test identified a negatively correlated and bidirectional causal relationship between actual evapotranspiration and catchment water storage change across distinct climatic periodicities, and the system dynamics approach suggested a combined structure of a vegetation reinforcing feedback and a soil water–vegetation balancing feedback in the hydrological system. The system dynamics' structure successfully captured the slow hydrological behaviors under both natural and human-intervention scenarios, demonstrating a self-sustained oscillation arising within the system's boundary. Our results showed that the interaction between the vegetation structure and the soil-bound water dominates the hydrological process at an inter-annual scale, while the interaction between the climatic oscillation and the soil-water-holding capacity dominates the hydrological process at an inter-decadal scale. Conventional hydrological models, which typically employ physiological-based evapotranspiration formulations and assume invariable soil characteristics, ignore vegetation structure change at the inter-annual scale and soil-water-holding capacity change at the inter-decadal scale, leading to failure in predicting the observed long-term hydrological behaviors. The system dynamics model is in its early stage with applications primarily confined to water-stressed regions and long-term scales. However, the novel insights proposed in our study, including the different hierarchies corresponding to distinct mechanisms and timescales and the endogenous linking structure among stocks being a more important driver of the hydrological behaviors, offer potential solutions for better understanding a hydrological system and guidelines for improving the configuration and performance of conventional hydrological models. Dear Editor, in this study, we propose a novel linkage disequilibrium information‐based noninvasive zygosity (LDNZ) assessment method in twin pregnancies. It combines fetus‐specific allele frequency analysis with LD block to reduce the number of required single nucleotide polymorphism markers and experiment costs. This paper addresses the challenge of degradation prediction in proton-exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). Traditional methods often struggle to balance accuracy and complexity, particularly under dynamic operational conditions. To overcome these limitations, this study proposes a data-driven approach based on the gated recurrent unit (GRU) neural network, optimized by the grey wolf optimizer (GWO). The integration of the GWO automates the hyperparameter tuning process, enhancing the predictive performance of the GRU network. The proposed GWO-GRU method was validated utilizing actual PEMFC data under dynamic load conditions. The results demonstrate that the GWO-GRU method achieves superior accuracy compared to other standard methods. The method offers a practical solution for online PEMFC degradation prediction, providing stable and accurate forecasting for PEMFC systems in dynamic environments. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Bacterium-like particles (BLPs) have gained significant attention in vaccine development due to their potential as effective immune enhancers and antigen delivery systems. BLPs are generated by boiling lactic acid bacteria in an acidic solution and are devoid of proteins and nucleic acids, offering advantages in terms of ease of preparation, high safety, and good stability. Furthermore, by employing protein anchor (PA), heterogeneous antigens can be efficiently displayed on the surface of BLPs, resulting in enhanced delivery effectiveness. Despite these benefits, most BLP-based vaccines are currently administered via injection or intranasal delivery, with oral delivery remaining limited. This limitation is primarily due to the harsh environment of the gastrointestinal tract, which degrades the antigens displayed on the surface of these particles. To enhance the efficacy of oral immunization with subunit vaccines, we developed a simple and rapid method for self-assembling a lipid membrane onto the surface of BLPs vaccines, achieving an encapsulation efficiency of up to 99%, and the combination has good biosafety. The novel oral delivery system not only preserves the adjuvant activity of BLPs but also efficiently protects antigens from adverse gastrointestinal environments, increasing the absorption of the vaccine in intestinal Peyer's patches (PPs). Oral immunization was required only once, and protection after the challenge was up to 100%. Furthermore, we observed rapid immunity and cross-protection. Transcriptome analysis of the small intestine suggested that immune enhancement probably be exerted by promoting the absorption and transport of antigens. Therefore, we posit that the design of this new oral delivery system presents a novel approach to advancing the development of oral subunit vaccines. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In predicting the remaining lifespan of Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells (PEMFC), it is crucial to accurately capture the multi-scale variations in cell performance. This study employs Variational Mode Decomposition (VMD) to decompose performance data into intrinsic modes, elucidating critical multi-scale dynamics vital for understanding the complex degradation processes in fuel cells. In addition to VMD, this research utilizes an Improved Whale Optimization Algorithm (IWOA) to optimize a Back Propagation (BP) Neural Network. The IWOA focuses on precise adjustments of weights and biases, enabling the BP network to effectively interpret complex nonlinear relationships within the dataset. This optimization enhances the predictive model's reliability and stability. Extensive experimental evaluations demonstrate that the integration of VMD, and the learning capabilities of the IWOA-optimized BP network significantly improves the model's accuracy and stability across multiple predictions, thereby increasing the reliability of lifespan predictions for PEMFCs. Traditional food packaging coated paper is not environmentally friendly, and there have been many studies on oil- and water-resistant paper for food packaging. However, preparing oil- and water-resistant paper that is plastic-free, fluorine-free, and environmentally friendly is still a significant challenge. In this study, oil- and water-resistant paper for food packaging are prepared by layer-by-layer assembly and mixing coating methods. The layer-by-layer assembly coated paper exhibits excellent water resistance (Cobb 60 value of 20.5 g/m2, water contact angle value of 132°). The mixed coated paper not only has good water resistance (Cobb 60 value of 27.1 g/m2, water contact angle value of 131°), but also has excellent oil resistance (kit rating value of 8/12). The oil-resistant and waterproof mechanism of the coated paper is confirmed through scanning electron microscopy. In addition, the mechanical performance and coating adhesion of the mixed coated paper are the best, with an increase in the tensile index of 73.1 %. This study provides a feasible strategy for preparing biodegradable, plastic-free, and fluorine-free food packaging oil- and water-resistant paper, which is beneficial for reducing plastic pollution. Objective: To assess the genetic etiologies underlying agenesis of the corpus callosum (ACC) and its pregnancy outcomes in the era of next‐generation sequencing. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on prospectively collected prenatal ACC cases in which amniocentesis was performed between January 2016 and December 2022. ACC was divided into non‐isolated and isolated according to the presence or absence of ultrasound abnormalities. Chromosomal microarray analysis (CMA), karyotyping and exome sequencing (ES) were performed after genetic counseling. Pregnancy outcomes were assessed by pediatric neurosurgeons and were followed up by telephone through their parents. Results: Sixty‐eight fetuses with ACC were enrolled in this study. CMA detected eight cases with pathogenic copy number variants (CNVs) and all were non‐isolated ACC, with a detection rate of 11.8% (8/68). Among the CMA abnormalities, the majority (6/8) were detectable by karyotyping. ES was performed in 26 cases with normal CMA, revealing pathogenic or likely pathogenic gene variations in 12 cases (46.2%, 12/26), involving L1CMA, SMARCB1, PPP2R1A, ARID1B, USP34, CDC42, NFIA and DCC genes. The detection rates of ES in isolated and non‐isolated ACC were 40% (6/15) and 54.5% (6/11), respectively. After excluding cases where pregnancy was terminated (56 cases), there were 12 live births, ranging in age from 15 months to 7 years. Of these, 91.7% (11 out of 12) demonstrated normal neurodevelopmental outcomes. Specifically, all five cases with isolated ACC and negative ES results exhibited normal neurodevelopment. The remaining six cases with favorable outcomes were all isolated ACC, among which ES identified variants of DCC and USP34 gene in one each case. The other four cases were CMA‐negative and declined ES. Conclusions: We highlight the efficacy of prenatal ES in determining the genetic etiology of ACC, whether isolated or not. The treatment and prevention of pathogenic diseases by lactic acid bacteria (LAB) has attracted more and more attention. As a special LAB, Levilactobacillus brevis (L. brevis) has relatively less research on its antibacterial infection in vivo, and its protective effect and mechanism still need to be fully studied. In this study, we selected L. brevis 23017, which can regulate the intestinal immunity of the host animal and resist pathogen infection, to evaluate its protective role and potential molecular mechanisms in the mouse model of S. typhimurium C7731 infection. As expected, we confirmed that L. brevis 23017 reduced the diarrhea rate and increased the daily weight gain and survival rate of the mouse model, and inhibited S. typhimurium colonization in the jejunum and liver. It also reduced the level of oxidative damage and protected the integrity of intestinal tissue by increasing the activity of intestinal antioxidant enzymes (SOD, GSH-Px and T-AOC). From the perspective of intestinal mucosal barrier injury and repair, it was confirmed that L. brevis 23017 could increase the expression levels of intestinal tight junction proteins (ZO-1 and OCLN). Our research results also show that L. brevis 23017 inhibits the inflammatory response and promotes the occurrence of cellular immunity in the body by promoting the increase in IL-10 and inhibiting IL-13 in serum and intestinal tissue. Notably, L. brevis 23017 increased total secretory immunoglobulin A (SIgA) levels in the intestine, which were closely associated with elevated levels of IL-5, IL-13, pIgR, j-chain, and IgAα-chain. In addition, L. brevis 23017 increased the expression of antioxidant proteins Nrf2, NQO1, and HO-1 associated with Nrf2 signaling to inhibit intestinal oxidative damage. This mechanism may be responsible for its protective effect against S. typhimurium-infected intestine. Our study provides new evidence and theoretical support for the analysis of the anti-bacterial infection effect and mechanism of L. brevis, which will contribute to the development of L. brevis and the treatment of pathogenic bacteria intestinal infection. We study how social connectedness affected active mutual fund manager trading behavior in the first half of 2020. In the first quarter during which the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak occurred, fund managers located in or socially connected to COVID-19 hotspots sold more stock holdings compared with a control group of unconnected managers. The economic impact of social connectedness on stock holdings was comparable with that of COVID-19 hotspots and was elevated among "epicenter" stocks most susceptible to the pandemic shock. In the second quarter, social interaction had an overall negative effect on fund performance, but this effect depended on manager skill; unskilled managers who were connected to the hotspots underperformed, whereas skillful managers suffered no deleterious effect. Our evidence suggests that social connections can intensify salience bias for all but the most skilled institutional investors, and policy makers should be wary of the destabilizing role of social networks during market downturns.
