Three eusauropod teeth (SDUST‐V1064, PMOL‐AD00176, PMOL‐ADt0005) are reported from the Lower Cretaceous Yixian Formation of Ningcheng, southeastern Inner Mongolia, China. Two of them (SDUST‐V1064, PMOL‐AD00176) are assigned to early‐diverging titanosauriforms in having slightly mesiodistal expansion at the base of the tooth crown, a slenderness index value >2.0 and <4.0, and D‐shaped cross section. Furthermore, SDUST‐V1064 and PMOL‐AD00176 are referred as an Euhelopus‐like titanosauriform on the basis of having a sub‐circular boss on the lingual surface and an asymmetrical crown‐root margin which slants apically, respectively. CT scan data of SDUST‐V1064 reveals new dental information of early‐diverging titanosauriforms, for example, the enamel on the labial side thicker than that on the lingual side, an enamel/dentine ratio of 0.26 and a boss present on the lingual side of the dentine of the crown. SPARC is a matricellular protein that modulates cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions by virtue of its antiproliferative and counteradhesive properties. Here, we report the denervation-induced upregulation of SPARC mRNA and protein in the mouse hippocampus following transections of the entorhinal afferents. Northern blot analysis showed that SPARC mRNA was upregulated in a transient manner in the deafferented mouse hippocampus. In situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry confirmed the temporal upregulation of both SPARC mRNA and protein specifically in the denervated areas, which initiated at 7 days postlesion, reached the maximum at 15 as well as 30 days postlesion, and subsided towards normal levels by 60 days postlesion. Double labeling by either a combination of in situ hybridization for SPARC mRNA with immunohistochemistry for glial fibrillary acidic protein or double immunofluorescence staining for both proteins in the hippocampus revealed that SPARC-expressing cells are reactive astrocytes. In respect to the spatiotemporal alterations of SPARC expression in the denervated hippocampus, we suggest that SPARC may be involved in modulation of the denervation-induced plasticity processes such as glial cell proliferation, axonal sprouting and subsequent synaptogenesis in the hippocampus following entorhinal deafferentation.

To search for gene expression changes probably responsible for deafferentation-induced reorganization in the brain, we have analyzed the expression of mRNAs for ephrin-A1, -A2, -A3, -A5 and -B1 in the rat hippocampus following transection of the entorhinal afferents by semi-quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). We found that their expression in the deafferented hippocampus increased significantly by 7 days, reached the maximum at 14 days and almost recovered to control levels by 60 days post-lesion. It is notable that the up-regulation of ephrin mRNAs occurs during the reorganization in the deafferented hippocampus, suggesting that ephrins may be involved in the plasticity events of the adult brain after lesion.
