Pythonic idioms are highly valued and widely used in the Python programming community. However, many Python users find it challenging to use Pythonic idioms. Adopting a rule-based approach or LLM-only approach is not sufficient to overcome three persistent challenges of code idiomatization including code miss, wrong detection and wrong refactoring. Motivated by the determinism of rules and adaptability of LLMs, we propose a hybrid approach consisting of three modules. We not only write prompts to instruct LLMs to complete tasks, but we also invoke Analytic Rule Interfaces (ARIs) to accomplish tasks. The ARIs are Python code generated by prompting LLMs to generate code. We first construct a knowledge module with three elements including ASTscenario, ASTcomponent and Condition, and prompt LLMs to generate Python code for incorporation into an ARI library for subsequent use. After that, for any syntax-error-free Python code, we invoke ARIs from the ARI library to extract ASTcomponent from the ASTscenario, and then filter out ASTcomponent that does not meet the condition. Finally, we design prompts to instruct LLMs to abstract and idiomatize code, and then invoke ARIs from the ARI library to rewrite non-idiomatic code into the idiomatic code. Next, we conduct a comprehensive evaluation of our approach, RIdiom, and Prompt-LLM on nine established Pythonic idioms in RIdiom. Our approach exhibits superior accuracy, F1-score, and recall, while maintaining precision levels comparable to RIdiom, all of which consistently exceed or come close to 90% for each metric of each idiom. Lastly, we extend our evaluation to encompass four new Pythonic idioms. Following OpenAI's introduction of GPTs, a surge in GPT apps has led to the launch of dedicated LLM app stores. Nevertheless, given its debut, there is a lack of sufficient understanding of this new ecosystem. To fill this gap, this paper presents a first comprehensive longitudinal (5-month) study of the evolution, landscape, and vulnerability of the emerging LLM app ecosystem, focusing on two GPT app stores: \textit{GPTStore.AI} and the official \textit{OpenAI GPT Store}. Specifically, we develop two automated tools and a TriLevel configuration extraction strategy to efficiently gather metadata (\ie names, creators, descriptions, \etc) and user feedback for all GPT apps across these two stores, as well as configurations (\ie system prompts, knowledge files, and APIs) for the top 10,000 popular apps. Our extensive analysis reveals: (1) the user enthusiasm for GPT apps consistently rises, whereas creator interest plateaus within three months of GPTs' launch; (2) nearly 90\% system prompts can be easily accessed due to widespread failure to secure GPT app configurations, leading to considerable plagiarism and duplication among apps. Our findings highlight the necessity of enhancing the LLM app ecosystem by the app stores, creators, and users.

The usage of Python idioms is popular among Python developers in a formative study of 101 performance-related questions of Python idioms on Stack Overflow, we find that developers often get confused about the performance impact of Python idioms and use anecdotal toy code or rely on personal project experience which is often contradictory in performance outcomes. There has been no large-scale, systematic empirical evidence to reconcile these performance debates. In the paper, we create a large synthetic dataset with 24,126 pairs of non-idiomatic and functionally-equivalent idiomatic code for the nine unique Python idioms identified in Zhang et al., and reuse a large real-project dataset of 54,879 such code pairs provided by Zhang et al. We develop a reliable performance measurement method to compare the speedup or slowdown by idiomatic code against non-idiomatic counterpart, and analyze the performance discrepancies between the synthetic and real-project code, the relationships between code features and performance changes, and the root causes of performance changes at the bytecode level. The link alignment requirement in underwater wireless optical communication (UWOC) systems is a knotty problem. The diffractive deep neural network (D2NN) has shown great potential in accomplishing tasks all optically these years. In this paper, an omnidirectional receiver based on 7-layer D2NN is first proposed to alleviate the link alignment difficulties in UWOC systems. In addition, the vectorial diffraction theory is introduced into the training of the D2NN to obtain more accurate diffraction calculations compared with the prevalently adopted scalar diffraction theory. Simulation results verify the validity of the vectorial diffraction theory and demonstrate that the presented method can focus incident light waves with tilt angles from 0 to 89 degrees in a 6.25% area of the detection plane with an average focusing efficiency of 90.96%, proving the feasibility of omnidirectional focusing at the receiver end. Extra simulations further reveal that more layers do not lead to a sustained performance improvement but rather reach a bottleneck, and the D2NN can achieve omnidirectional focusing with a certain range of focusing region size. With more effort, the proposed receiver design, which can be highly integrated with detectors, holds promise to realize both omnidirectional and reliable link establishment in UWOC systems in the future., Comment: 13 pages, 10 figures

Compared to other programming languages (e.g., Java), Python has more idioms to make Python code concise and efficient. Although pythonic idioms are well accepted in the Python community, Python programmers are often faced with many challenges in using them, for example, being unaware of certain pythonic idioms or do not know how to use them properly. Based on an analysis of 7,638 Python repositories on GitHub, we find that non-idiomatic Python code that can be implemented with pythonic idioms occurs frequently and widely. Unfortunately, there is no tool for automatically refactoring such non-idiomatic code into idiomatic code. In this paper, we design and implement an automatic refactoring tool to make Python code idiomatic. We identify nine pythonic idioms by systematically contrasting the abstract syntax grammar of Python and Java. Then we define the syntactic patterns for detecting non-idiomatic code for each pythonic idiom. Finally, we devise atomic AST-rewriting operations and refactoring steps to refactor non-idiomatic code into idiomatic code. We test and review over 4,115 refactorings applied to 1,065 Python projects from GitHub, and submit 90 pull requests for the 90 randomly sampled refactorings to 84 projects. Recently we have reported the direct observation of two-dimensional (2D) Ca-Cl crystals on reduced graphene oxide (rGO) membranes, in which the calcium ions are only about monovalent (i.e. ~+1) and metallic rather than insulating properties are displayed by those CaCl crystals. Here, we report the experimental observation and demonstration of the formation of graphene-Ca-Cl heterojunction owing to the metallicity of 2D Ca-Cl crystals, unexpected piezoelectric effect, room-temperature ferromagnetism, as well as the distinct hydrogen storage and release capability of the Ca-Cl crystals in rGO membranes. Theoretical studies show that the formation of those abnormal crystals is attributed to the strong cation-pi interactions of the Ca2+ with the aromatic rings in the graphitic surfaces. Since strong cation-pi interactions also exist between other metal ions (such as Mg2+, Fe2+, Co2+, Cu2+, Cd2+, Cr2+ and Pb2+) and graphitic surfaces, similar 2D crystals with abnormal valence state of the metal cations and corresponding abnormal properties as well as novel applications are highly expected.
