16. Characteristics and Challenges of Low-Code Development: The Practitioners' Perspective

Abstract

Background: In recent years, Low-code development (LCD) is growing rapidly, and Gartner and Forrester have predicted that the use of LCD is very promising. Giant companies, such as Microsoft, Mendix, and Outsystems have also launched their LCD platforms. Aim: In this work, we explored two popular online developer communities, Stack Overflow (SO) and Reddit, to provide insights on the characteristics and challenges of LCD from a practitioners' perspective. Method: We used two LCD related terms to search the relevant posts in SO and extracted 73 posts. Meanwhile, we explored three LCD related subreddits from Reddit and collected 228 posts. We extracted data from these posts and applied the Constant Comparison method to analyze the descriptions, benefits, and limitations and challenges of LCD. For platforms and programming languages used in LCD, implementation units in LCD, supporting technologies of LCD, types of applications developed by LCD, and domains that use LCD, we used descriptive statistics to analyze and present the results. Results: Our findings show that: (1) LCD may provide a graphical user interface for users to drag and drop with little or even no code; (2) the equipment of out-of-the-box units (e.g., APIs and components) in LCD platforms makes them easy to learn and use as well as speeds up the development; (3) LCD is particularly favored in the domains that have the need for automated processes and workflows; and (4) practitioners have conflicting views on the advantages and disadvantages of LCD. Abstract

In this study, a novel Ho(iii) coordination complex with the chemical composition of [Ho6(acac)4L4(CH3O)6]·xCH3OH (1) has been prepared via using a polydentate Schiff base ligand N′-(2,3-dihydroxybenzylidene) picolinohydrazide (H2L) and a β-diketone (Hacac = acetylacetone) co-ligand, and then successfully loaded with drug omeprazole. Hyaluronic acid, a natural polysaccharide with good biocompatibility, was used as raw material to prepare drug carriers that can be injected into hydrogels based on chemical synthesis method. The internal microstructure of the hydrogel was observed by scanning electron microscope, which showed a good three-dimensional connected porous structure. After the synthesis of the hydrogel, the value of their application in the treatment of pancreatitis was evaluated and the related mechanisms were explored at the same time.

Abstract

Transitional metal ions widely exist in biological environments and are crucial to many life-sustaining physiological processes. Recently, transition metal ion such as Cu$^{2+}$, Zn$^{2+}$, Ni$^{2+}$, have been shown can increase the solubilities of aromatic biomolecules. Comparing with Cu$^{2+}$, Zn$^{2+}$ shows less enhancement to the solubilities of biomolecules such as tryptophan (Trp). On the other hand, Zn$^{2+}$ has a higher concentration in human blood plasma and appears in protein the most among transition metal ions, clarifying whether Zn$^{2+}$ can enhance the solubilities of other aromatic amino acids is significantly important. Herein, we observed that the solubility of aromatic amino acid histidine (His) is greatly enhanced in ZnCl$_2$ solution. Based on first principle calculations, this enhancement of solubility is attributed to cation-$\pi$ interaction between His and Zn$^{2+}$. Our results here are of great importance for the bioavailability of aromatic drugs and provide new insights for the understanding of physiological functions of Zn$^{2+}$., Comment: 15 pages, 8 figures

41. YKL-40 promotes chemokine expression following drug-induced liver injury via TF-PAR1 pathway in mice

Abstract

Background: The inflammatory factor YKL-40 is associated with various inflammatory diseases and is key to remodeling inflammatory cells and tissues. YKL-40 (Chi3l1) promotes the activation of tissue factor (TF), leading to intrahepatic vascular coagulation (IAOC) and liver injury. TF is a key promoter of the exogenous coagulation cascade and is also involved in several signaling involving cell proliferation, apoptosis, charring, migration and inflammatory diseases pathways. However, the effect of YKL-40-induced TF-PAR1 pathway on the expression of downstream chemokines remains unknown.Methods: We established a liver injury model using Concanavalin A (ConA) in C57 BL/6 mice. By adopting various experimental techniques, the effect of YKL-40 induced TF-PAR1 pathway on the expression of downstream chemokine ligand 2 (CCL2) and IP-10 was verified.Results: We found that overexpression of YKL-40 increased the expression of TF, protease-activated receptor 1 (PAR1), CCL2 and IP-10 in mice and exacerbated the severity of liver injury. However, blocking the expression of TF significantly reversed the extent of liver injury.Conclusion: We found that YKL-40 promotes the expression of downstream chemokines ligand 2 (CCL2) and IP-10 by activating the TF-PAR1 pathway, leading to increased recruitment of inflammatory cells and exacerbating the progression of liver injury. This provides a new approach for the clinical treatment of drug-induced liver injury.

48. Repenetrating the Rural Periphery: Party Building Under China's Anti-Poverty Campaign.

Abstract

Post-Mao reforms ranging from de-collectivization to the abolition of agricultural taxes have eroded the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) control over the rural periphery. However, with an agenda to strengthen the CCP's all-around control over the economy and society, the Xi Jinping era saw a reversal of the long-term trend. We argue that Xi's high-profile anti-poverty campaign from 2015 to 2020 consisted of massive Party building attempts and served as an important strategy for the Party to repenetrate the rural periphery. Based on in-depth fieldwork, archival research, and secondary information sources, we show that by injecting human and financial resources into poverty regions, the CCP reinvigorated its previously underfunded and demoralized grassroots organs, expanded rural Party member recruitment, and enhanced the Party's intervention in village affairs. Therefore, despite its seemingly economic nature, Xi's anti-poverty campaign may lead to the long-lasting effect of Party power consolidation in the countryside. This finding suggests that authoritarian regimes can use campaigns with appealing policy goals to advance broader political agendas and enhance authoritarian resilience. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
