Further evidence is needed to explore the impact of high-altitude environments on the neurologic function of neonates. Non-invasive techniques such as cerebral near-infrared spectroscopy and amplitude-integrated electroencephalography can provide data on cerebral oxygenation and brain electrical activity. This study will conduct multiple cerebral near-infrared spectroscopy and amplitude-integrated electroencephalography monitoring sessions at various time points within the first 3 days postpartum for healthy full-term neonates at different altitudes. The obtained data on cerebral oxygenation and brain electrical activity will be compared between different altitudes, and corresponding reference ranges will be established. The study involves 6 participating centers in the Chinese High Altitude Neonatal Medicine Alliance, with altitude gradients divided into 4 categories: 800 m, 1 900 m, 2 400 m, and 3 500 m, with an anticipated sample size of 170 neonates per altitude gradient. Introduction: The partial oxygen pressure in the air decreases with increasing altitude. This study was designed to compare the pulse oxygen saturation (SpO2) among well full-term neonates at different altitudes during their first 2 h after birth and to establish cutoff values of SpO2 identifying hypoxemia between 30 and 120 min after birth. Methods: A multisite prospective cohort study was conducted at five participating hospitals from the Chinese High Altitude Neonatal Medicine Alliance. Healthy full-term infants were recruited and divided into four groups based on the altitude. Preductal SpO2 was recorded at 10 min, 10–30 min, and 30–120 min after birth. The 2.5th percentile of the SpO2 distribution range was considered as the cutoff for identifying hypoxemia at each altitude. Results: A total of 727 infants were eligible for analysis. The SpO2 of neonates at different altitudes increased with the time after birth. A higher altitude was associated with lower SpO2, especially Shangri-La (3,509 m) and Yushu (4,360 m). The cutoff SpO2 for identifying hypoxemia during 30–120 min after birth were 94% in Xishuangbanna (847 m), 92% in Kunming (1,983 m), 89% in Shangri-La (3,509 m), and 83% in Yushu (4,360 m). Conclusion: An increase in altitude, especially Shangri-La (3,509 m) and Yushu (4,360 m), had a significant impact on SpO2 among healthy full-term neonates during their first 2 h of life. Establishing the cutoff value of SpO2 for identifying hypoxemia during the early postnatal period serves to optimize the oxygen therapy at different altitudes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study presents the first column-averaged dry-air mole fractions of carbon dioxide (XCO2), methane (XCH4) and carbon monoxide (XCO) in the coal mine aggregation area in Shanxi, China, using two portable Fourier transform infrared spectrometers (EM27/SUNs), in the framework of the Collaborative Carbon Column Observing Network (COCCON). The measurements, collected over two months, were analyzed. Significant daily variations were observed, particularly in XCH4, which highlight the impact of coal mining emissions as a major CH4 source in the region. This study also compares COCCON XCO with measurements from the TROPOspheric Monitoring Instrument (TROPOMI) onboard the Sentinel-5P satellite, revealing good agreement, with a mean bias of 7.15 ± 9.49 ppb. Additionally, comparisons were made between COCCON XCO2 and XCH4 data and analytical data from the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS). The mean biases between COCCON and CAMS were −6.43 ± 1.75 ppm for XCO2 and 15.40 ± 31.60 ppb for XCH4. The findings affirm the stability and accuracy of the COCCON instruments for validating satellite observations and detecting local greenhouse gas sources. Operating COCCON spectrometers in coal mining areas offers valuable insights into emissions from these high-impact sources.

Cellular senescence is implicated in several lines of aging-related disorders. However, the potential molecular mechanisms by which cellular senescence modulates age-related pathologies remain largely unexplored. Herein, we report that the density of sympathetic fibers (SFs) is significantly elevated in naturally aged mouse tissues and human colon adenoma tissues compared to the SFs densities in the corresponding young mouse tissues and human non-lesion colon tissues. A dorsal root ganglion (DRG)-human diploid fibroblast coculture assay revealed that senescent cells promote the outgrowth of SFs, indicating that the senescent cells induce recruitment of SFs in vitro. Additionally, subcutaneous transplantation of 2BS fibroblasts in nude mice shows that transplanted senescent 2BS fibroblasts promote SFs infiltration. Intra-articular senolytic molecular injection can reduce SFs density and inhibit SFs infiltration caused by senescent cells in osteoarthritis (OA), suggesting senescent cells promote the infiltration of SFs in vivo in aged tissues. Notably, the elevated level of SFs contributes to impaired cognitive function in naturally aged mice, which can be reversed by treatment with propranolol hydrochloride, a non-selective β receptor blocker that inhibits sympathetic nerve activity (SNA) by blocking non-selective β receptors. Additionally, 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA)-induced sympathectomy improved hepatic sympathetic overactivity mediated hepatic steatosis in high fat diet (HFD)-fed APOE knockout mice (APOE−/− mice) by reducing hepatic SNA. Taken together, this study concludes that senescent cell-secreted netrin-1 mediated SFs outgrowth and infiltration, which contributes to aging-related disorders, suggesting that clearing senescent cells or inhibiting SNA is a promising therapeutic strategy for improving sympathetic nervous system (SNS) hyperactivity-induced aging-related pathologies.

Objective. Understanding the multifactorial changes involved in the kidney and heart after acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is prerequisite for further mechanisms and early intervention, especially autophagy changes. Here, we discussed the role of adaptive autophagy in the heart and kidney of rats with AMI. Methods. A rat model of AMI was established by ligating the left anterior descending branch of the coronary artery. Animals were sacrificed at 2 and 4 weeks after the operation to assess the morphological and functional changes of the heart and kidney, as well as the autophagy pathway. In vitro, HK-2 and AC16 cell injuries and the autophagy pathway were assayed after autophagy was inhibited by 3-methyladenine (3-MA) in a hypoxia incubator. Results. We found that the left ventricular systolic pressure (LVSP) significantly decreased in the model group at weeks 2 and 4. At weeks 2 and 4, the level of urinary kidney injury molecule 1 (uKIM1) of the model group was significantly higher than the sham group. At week 4, urinary neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalcin (uNGAL) and urinary albumin also significantly increased. At week 2, microtubule-associated protein 1 light chain 3-II (LC3-II), ATG5, and Beclin1 were significantly elevated in the heart and kidney compared with the sham-operated rats, but there was no change in p62 levels. At week 4, LC3-II did not significantly increase and p62 levels significantly increased. In addition, 3-MA markedly increased KIM1, NGAL, and the activity of caspase-3 in the hypoxic HK-2 and AC16 cell. Conclusion. Autophagy will undergo adaptive changes and play a protective role in the heart and kidney of rats after AMI.

Bionic reasoning is a significant process in product biologically inspired design (BID), in which designers search for creatures and products that are matched for design. Several studies have tried to assist designers in bionic reasoning, but there are still limits. Designers’ bionic reasoning thinking in product BID is vague, and there is a lack of fuzzy semantic search methods at the sentence level. This study tries to assist designers’ bionic semantic reasoning in product BID. First, experiments were conducted to determine the designer’s bionic reasoning thinking in top-down and bottom-up processes. Bionic mapping relationships, including affective perception, form, function, material, and environment, were obtained. Second, the bidirectional encoder representations from transformers (BERT) pretraining model was used to calculate the semantic similarity of product description sentences and biological sentences so that designers could choose the high-ranked results to finish bionic reasoning. Finally, we used a product BID example to show the bionic semantic reasoning process and verify the feasibility of the method.

Objective: To establish the HPLC-PDA-CAD fingerprints and to determine its seven main constituents so as to provide a reliable evidence for the scientific evaluation and quality control of salt Anemarrhenae Rhizoma., Methods: The chromatographic fingerprint was obtained with Thermo Hypersil C18 column (250 mm x 4.6 mm, 5 μm) and gradient eluted with acetonitrile and water; The CAD parameters were pressure of 241. 3 kPa, filter of high and range of 200 pA. The detection wavelength of PDA was set at 258 nm., Results: The common mode of HPLC-PDA-CAD fingerprint of salt Anemarrhenae Rhizoma was set up. There were 5 PDA and 12 CAD common peaks in the fingerprints. Timosaponin B II, anemarsaponin E, timosaponin B III, timosaponin A III, neomangiferin, mangiferin and baohuoside I were identified in fingerprints and determined., Conclusion: The established HPLC-PDA-CAD fingerprint method is accurate, reliable, and has a good reproducibility and precision, which can be used for the quality control of salt Anemarrhenae Rhizoma.
