Abstract

A multidimensional extraction of the structure function ratio σLT′/σ0 from the hard exclusive e→p→e′nπ+ reaction above the resonance region has been performed. The study was done based on beam-spin asymmetry measurements using a 10.6 GeV incident electron beam on a liquid-hydrogen target and the CLAS12 spectrometer at Jefferson Lab. The measurements focus on the very forward regime (t/Q2 ≪ 1) with a wide kinematic range of xB in the valence regime (0.17 < xB < 0.55), and virtualities Q2 ranging from 1.5 GeV2 up to 6 GeV2. The results and their comparison to theoretical models based on Generalized Parton Distributions demonstrate the sensitivity to chiral-odd GPDs and the directly related tensor charge of the nucleon. In addition, the data is compared to an extension of a Regge formalism at high photon virtualities. It was found that the Regge model provides a better description at low Q2, while the GPD model is more appropriate at high Q2.

Abstract

We report a new measurement of the beam-spin asymmetry, Σ, for the γ→n→K+Σ− reaction using quasi-free neutrons in a liquid-deuterium target. The new dataset includes data at previously unmeasured photon energy and angular ranges, thereby providing new constraints on partial wave analyses used to extract properties of the excited nucleon states. The experimental data were obtained using the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS), housed in Hall B of the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (JLab). The CLAS detector measured reaction products from a liquid-deuterium target produced by an energy-tagged, linearly polarised photon beam with energies in the range 1.1 to 2.3 GeV. Predictions from an isobar model indicate strong sensitivity to N(1720)3/2+, Δ(1900)1/2−, and N(1895)1/2−, which corroborates results from a recent combined analysis of all KΣ channels. When our data are incorporated in the fits of partial-wave analyses, one observes significant changes in γ-n couplings of resonances which have small branching ratios to the πN channel.

Abstract

High-momentum configurations of nucleon pairs at short-distance are probed using measurements of the 12C(e,e′p) and 12C(e,e′pN) reactions (where N is either n or p), at high-Q2 and xB>1.1. The data span a missing-momentum range of 300–1000 MeV/c and are predominantly sensitive to the transition region of the strong nuclear interaction from a Tensor to Scalar interaction. The data are well reproduced by theoretical calculations using the Generalized Contact Formalism with both chiral and phenomenological nucleon-nucleon (NN) interaction models. This agreement suggests that the measured high missing-momentum protons up to 1000 MeV/c predominantly belong to short-ranged correlated (SRC) pairs. The measured 12C(e,e′pN) / 12C(e,e′p) and 12C(e,e′pp) / 12C(e,e′pn) cross-section ratios are consistent with a decrease in the fraction of proton-neutron SRC pairs and increase in the fraction of proton-proton SRC pairs with increasing missing momentum. This confirms the transition from an isospin-dependent tensor NN interaction at ∼400 MeV/c to an isospin-independent scalar interaction at high-momentum around ∼800 MeV/c as predicted by theoretical calculation.

Abstract

We report measurements of π+ and π0 meson photoproduction from longitudinally spin-polarised protons by an energy tagged (0.73-2.3 GeV) and linearly polarised photon beam. A close to complete solid angle coverage for the reaction products was provided by the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer at Jefferson Laboratory. The double-polarisation observable G is extracted from Maximum Likelihood fits to the data, enabling the first accurate determination for the reaction γ→p→→π+n, while also significantly extending the kinematic coverage for γ→p→→π0p. This large data set provides an important constraint on the properties and spectrum of excited nucleon states decaying to Nπ in the mass range from 1.4 to 2.2 GeV, as well as for background (non-resonant) photoproduction processes. The considerable improvement achieved in the description of the observable G within the SAID and Bonn-Gatchina approaches after implementation of our data, illustrates that the partial-wave analyses now significantly extend the knowledge on Nπ photoproduction amplitudes at W>1.8 GeV. A partial-wave analysis using the new high-precision data set has a large impact on the extracted properties of high-spin nucleon excited states.

Abstract

The beam spin asymmetry of the exclusive pseudoscalar channel e→p→e′p′η was measured for the first time in the deep-inelastic regime (W>2 GeV/c2 and Q2>1 GeV2/c2) using a longitudinally polarized 5.78 GeV electron beam at Jefferson Lab with the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer. The data were accumulated in 144 four-dimensional bins of Q2, xB, −t and ϕ over a wide kinematic range, where ϕ is the azimuthal angle between the lepton and hadron scattering planes, The measured azimuthal dependence with large amplitudes of the sin⁡ϕ moments is a clear indication of a substantial contribution to the polarized cross-section from transversely polarized virtual photons. In the framework of generalized parton distributions (GPDs) this contribution is expressed via longitudinal-transverse interference between chiral-even and chiral-odd GPDs. The experimental results are compared to the existing theoretical models demonstrating the sensitivity to the product of chiral-odd and chiral-even GPDs and provide new constraints to the existing GPD parameterizations. Abstract

We report a measurement of a beam–target double-polarisation observable (E) for the γ→n→(p)→K+Σ−(p) reaction. The data were obtained impinging the circularly-polarised energy-tagged photon beam of Hall B at Jefferson Lab on a longitudinally-polarised frozen-spin hydrogen deuteride (HD) nuclear target. The E observable for an effective neutron target was determined for centre-of-mass energies 1.70≤W≤2.30 GeV, with reaction products detected over a wide angular acceptance by the CLAS spectrometer. These new double-polarisation data give unique constraints on the strange decays of excited neutron states. Inclusion of the new data within the Bonn-Gatchina theoretical model results in significant changes for the extracted photocouplings of a number of established nucleon resonances. Possible improvements in the PWA description of the experimental data with additional “missing” resonance states, including the N(2120)3/2− resonance, are also quantified.

Abstract

Photon beam asymmetry Σ measurements for ω photoproduction in the reaction γ→p→ωp are reported for photon energies from 1.152 to 1.876 GeV. Data were taken using a linearly-polarized tagged photon beam, a cryogenic hydrogen target, and the CLAS spectrometer in Hall B at Jefferson Lab. The measurements obtained markedly increase the size of the database for this observable, extend coverage to higher energies, and resolve discrepancies in previously published data. Comparisons of these new results with predictions from a chiral-quark-based model and from a dynamical coupled-channels model indicate the importance of interferences between t-channel meson exchange and s- and u-channel contributions, underscoring sensitivity to the nucleon resonances included in those descriptions. Comparisons with the Bonn–Gatchina partial-wave analysis indicate the Σ data reported here help to fix the magnitudes of the interference terms between the leading amplitudes in that calculation (Pomeron exchange and the resonant portion of the JP=3/2+ partial wave), as well as the resonant portions of the smaller partial waves with JP=1/2−, 3/2−, and 5/2+. Abstract

This paper presents, for the first time, measurements of neutron transparency ratios for nuclei relative to C measured using the (e,e′n) reaction, spanning measured neutron momenta of 1.4 to 2.4 GeV/c. The transparency ratios were extracted in two kinematical regions, corresponding to knockout of mean-field nucleons and to the breakup of Short-Range Correlated nucleon pairs. The extracted neutron transparency ratios are consistent with each other for the two measured kinematical regions and agree with the proton transparencies extracted from new and previous (e,e′p) measurements, including those from neutron-rich nuclei such as lead. The data also agree with and confirm the Glauber approximation that is commonly used to interpret experimental data. The nuclear-mass-dependence of the extracted transparencies scales as Aα with α=−0.289±0.007, which is consistent with nuclear-surface dominance of the reactions.

Abstract

Results are presented for the first measurement of the double-polarization helicity asymmetry E for the η photoproduction reaction γp→ηp. Data were obtained using the FROzen Spin Target (FROST) with the CLAS spectrometer in Hall B at Jefferson Lab, covering a range of center-of-mass energy W from threshold to 2.15 GeV and a large range in center-of-mass polar angle. As an initial application of these data, the results have been incorporated into the Jülich–Bonn model to examine the case for the existence of a narrow N⁎ resonance between 1.66 and 1.70 GeV. The addition of these data to the world database results in marked changes in the predictions for the E observable from that model. Further comparison with several theoretical approaches indicates these data will significantly enhance our understanding of nucleon resonances. Abstract

First results from the longitudinally polarized frozen-spin target (FROST) program are reported. The double-polarization observable E, for the reaction γ→p→→π+n, has been measured using a circularly polarized tagged-photon beam, with energies from 0.35 to 2.37 GeV. The final-state pions were detected with the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer in Hall B at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. These polarization data agree fairly well with previous partial-wave analyses at low photon energies. Over much of the covered energy range, however, significant deviations are observed, particularly in the high-energy region where high-L multipoles contribute. The data have been included in new multipole analyses resulting in updated nucleon resonance parameters. We report updated fits from the Bonn–Gatchina, Jülich–Bonn, and SAID groups.

Abstract

The beam spin asymmetry of the exclusive pseudoscalar channel e → p → e ′ p ′ η was measured for the first time in the deep-inelastic regime ( W > 2 GeV / c 2 and Q 2 > 1 GeV 2 / c 2 ) using a longitudinally polarized 5.78 GeV electron beam at Jefferson Lab with the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer. The data were accumulated in 144 four-dimensional bins of Q 2 , x B , − t and ϕ over a wide kinematic range, where ϕ is the azimuthal angle between the lepton and hadron scattering planes, The measured azimuthal dependence with large amplitudes of the sin ⁡ ϕ moments is a clear indication of a substantial contribution to the polarized cross-section from transversely polarized virtual photons. In the framework of generalized parton distributions (GPDs) this contribution is expressed via longitudinal-transverse interference between chiral-even and chiral-odd GPDs. The experimental results are compared to the existing theoretical models demonstrating the sensitivity to the product of chiral-odd and chiral-even GPDs and provide new constraints to the existing GPD parameterizations.

The objectives of this study were to investigate the effects of supplementing rumen-protected methionine (RPM) or lysine (RPL) alone or in combination with RPM and RPL (RPML) on milk yield and milk components, rumen fermentation characteristics, and the rumen microbiome in lactating yaks. Thirty-two multiparous lactating yaks with parity (2.13 ± 1.08 lactations), body weight (169 ± 15.0 kg), and milk yield (1.02 ± 0.13 kg/d) were blocked by milk yield and randomly assigned into one of the four treatments: control (CON; basal diet without adding rumen-protected amino acid) and the basal diet supplemented with RPM (50.0 g/d), RPL (66.7 g/d), or RPML (12.5 g/d RPM and 50.0 g/d RPL). Abstract

A powerful new electron–ioncollider (EIC) has been recommended in the 2015 Long Range Plan for Nuclear Science for probing the partonic structure inside nucleons and nuclei with unprecedented precision and versatility [1] . EIC detectors are currently under development [2] , all of which require hadron identification over a broad kinematic range. A prototype ring imaging Cherenkov detector has been developed for hadron identification in the momentum range from 3 GeV/c to 10 GeV/c. The key feature of this new detector is a compact and modular design, achieved by using aerogel as radiator and a Fresnel lens for ring focusing. In this paper, the results from a beam test of a prototype device at Fermilab are reported.

Abstract

The expression and function of the zinc transporter genes SLC39A1, SLC39A2, and SLC39A3 in the Zrt/Irt-like proteins (ZIP)II subfamily have been reported in monogastric but not ruminant animals. Thus, the response of these three ZIPII genes to different sources of zinc in ruminants was examined in goats in the present study. A total of 18 Guanzhong dairy goats were randomly divided into three groups of 6 goats each. The goats were fed one of three diets. The control group received a basic diet with no additional zinc. The second and third groups ate the same diet but with 60 mg/kg of zinc sulfate or zinc amino acid chelate (Zn-AA) complex added, respectively. After 7 days of treatment, the goats were sacrificed, 23 tissue samples were collected from each goat, and the expression and distribution of the ZIPII genes were determined with PCR analyses. In addition, seven tissues relevant to digestion or metabolism were examined using real-time PCR to identify the responses of the three genes to different zinc sources. The results showed that the expression of SLC39A1-3 mRNA could be detected in 21 of the 23 tissue types examined in the dairy goats, with no expression detected in heart or testis. The levels of expression for the three genes in the tissues relevant to digestion or metabolism were tissue specific and varied with the zinc source, indicating that the source of zinc affects the SLC39A1-3 mRNA expression.

Abstract

Whey fermented liquid (WFL) was studied for its hepatoprotective effects by using chronic alcohol-induced mice. Whey fermented liquid, prepared by inoculating whey with 4% (vol/vol) Lactobacillus casei and then incubating at 41°C for 8h, was used to orally treat alcohol-induced mice at 3 dosages for 5 wk. Ethanol consumption significantly reduced the activity of superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase, while lowering glutathione content and increasing levels of aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, total triglyceride, malondialdehyde, and cytochrome P450 2E1. Treatment with WFL significantly attenuated the increased levels of alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, triglyceride, and cytochrome P450 2E1, while decreasing superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, malondialdehyde, and glutathione levels. Pathological changes in the livers of mice who had ingested alcohol were improved by the administration of WFL. These results suggest that WFL may exert a protective effect against alcoholic liver disease by increasing antioxidant activity, which supports the use of WFL as an antialcoholic liver disease treatment.

Abstract

The deposition of amorphous zirconium oxide thin films by off-plane double bend filtered cathodic vacuum arc (FCVA) is reported for the first time. The ZrOx growth is at room temperature and X-ray diffraction (XRD) showed an amorphous film was deposited. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) confirmed that the film morphology is very smooth. The surface microstructure and interface properties of ZrOx thin films were investigated using monochromatic high-resolution X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). From depth profile, it was deduced that the bulk of the film was ∼ZrO1.9 and at the interface, O–Zr–Si types of bonds were observed to be present. Such amorphous films were observed to have a high optical bandgap of 5.2 eV and high refractive index of ∼2.0.

Abstract

Transparent and smooth alumina thin films have been deposited on Si (1 0 0) and quartz substrates at low temperature by an off-plane double bend filtered cathodic vacuum arc (FCVA) system, which is slightly different from traditional vacuum arc system. The films were analysed using X-ray diffraction and X-ray photoemission spectroscopy to investigate the crystalline and chemical characteristics of these thin films. The films displayed a very smooth surface morphology, which were verified from AFM and SEM. The compressive stress, hardness and Young's modulus of aluminium oxide thin films deposited under varying oxygen partial pressure were investigated, and compared with that by other technologies. Friction coefficient of stoichiometric film against steel and DLC balls were analysed by tribometer (pin-on-disk), respectively. The deposited stoichiometric aluminium oxide thin films possess good optical properties. The results show that the alumina thin films prepared by FCVA technology have potential applications as wear-resistance coatings and optical coatings.

Magnetic critical current density and relaxation rate have been measured on $MgB_2$ bulks from 1.6 K to $T_c$ at magnetic fields up to 8 Tesla. A vortex phase diagram is depicted based on these measurement. Two phase boundaries $H_{irr}^{bulk}(T)$ and $H_{irr}^{g}(T)$ characterizing different irreversible flux motions are found. The $H_{irr}^{bulk}(T)$ is characterized by the appearance of the linear resistivity and is attributed to quantum vortex melting induced by quantum fluctuation of vortices in the rather clean system. The second boundary $ H_{irr}^g(T) $ reflects the irreversible flux motion in some local regions due to either very strong pinning or the surface barrier on the tiny grains., Comment: 4 pages, 5 figures

Current localization algorithms for ad-hoc wireless sensor networks are categorized either as distributed or centralized ones. Typical distributed algorithms include DV-hop, DV-distance [1], etc., which need the deployment of certain amount of anchor nodes; on the contrary, the centralized algorithms, such as MDS-MAP [3], need less anchor nodes, while the computation complexity is higher as a result of centralized computing. In this paper, a hierarchical and partial-distributed scheme for ad-hoc wireless sensor networks is proposed. The scheme can be implemented with lower computation complexity and less anchor nodes; moreover, the transmission of localization information among different nodes is easier than that in the scheme utilizing completely distributed algorithms. In addition, the implementation approach of the scheme in NS-2 is given in the simulation section.

Through the analysis of the scattering characteristic when the laser transmit through the atmosphere, the bandwidth and the center wavelength of Brillouin, Rayleigh scattering and the vibrational Raman scattering of nitrogen are especially discussed in the paper. Based on the parameters mentioned above, the required structure of the photonic crystal filters for detecting the scattering signal are obtained. A photonic crystal filter is designed for detecting the atmospheric stimulated scattering signal by the optical transfer matrix method (TMM).The results show that the optical transmittance at the center wavelength is higher than 99%, and the center wavelength can be easily shifted to the central of the scattering spectra by selecting suitable parameters. There is a strict demand of the incident angle to the photonic crystal for detecting the Brillouin scattering signal, and the signal can not be well detected if there is a tiny shift of the angle. With the incident angle varies from 0deg to 3deg for the photonic crystal filters, the Rayleigh and the vibrational Raman scattering signals can still be well detected.

Abstract

CD226, a member of cell adhesion molecules, has been widely studied in the immune system; however, its expression in the CNS remains unknown. In our present study, we detected CD226 mRNA and protein in the mouse hippocampus and cerebellum by RT-PCR and Western blotting, respectively. Immunohistochemical studies found that CD226 is primarily located in the hilus of the dentate gyrus and stratum lucidum aligned along the pyramidal cells in the hippocampal CA3 area, the interspaces of granular cells and the somata of the Purkinje cells in the cerebellar cortex during adulthood. Double-staining results revealed that CD226 co-localized well with synaptic marker proteins including synaptophysin, syntaxin and PSD-95. During postnatal development, CD226 could not be detected at its adult locations until postnatal day 12; however, it was temporally expressed in the somata of neighboring or distant nuclei associated with its adult location. These results showed the diverse localization of CD226 in the mouse hippocampus and cerebellum for the first time and suggested its potential role in the CNS.

The mechanism for measuring the surgical information of punching force and cutting depth is discussed based on the requirements for integration design. The sensor data board is developed. To eliminate the interfering signal for transmission, the two digital filtering methods suitable for the PC and the sensor data board respectively are proposed by using the power spectral estimation of sensor data. On the basis of fuzzy sets, the sensor data fusion is studied for robotic control algorithm to have an accurate response of operational environments. The experimental results show that the integration of microsensors meets the design requirements and the robotic end-effector trephine can fulfill the surgical task of corneal trephination precisely.

Abstract

In this study, in order to enhance the performance of self-organized mobile Ad Hoc networks, a behavior-driven based mechanism is proposed according to the behavior of communications between nodes and the occurred events in mobile hosts. The features of the algorithm inclusive of the packet delivery ratio as well as stability of routing path in wireless Ad Hoc networks are analyzed and discussed. By this way, the solution for improving the capability of the network can be achieved when integrating the proposed algorithms with other typical algorithms. The simulation results indicate that the algorithms show better performances for the mobility of nodes and robustness in self-organized Ad Hoc networks.

Abstract

The compromising emanations and receiver of VDU (Video Display Unit) signal has been studied, and basing on the model of radiated compromising emanations, the original signal can be reconstructed. For many kinds of digital channel, modeling an available radiated compromising emanation is very important, where a channel transfer function needs to be built in accordance with the environment. The mechanism of digital signal compromising emanations as well as the characteristics of multi-path fading channel are analyzed and discussed in the study. Furthermore, the channel transfer function of radiated compromising emanations in a complex environment is created, and an actual channel mathematical model is given and simulated. Some meaningful results are obtained from this simulation.

Abstract

This paper considers the capability of collaboration and interaction between agents in a new architecture of multi-agent systems (MAS) basing on the thought of network behavior and co-evolution. Actually, current development of MAS nearly synchronously accompanies with the development of communication networks ever increasingly because the approaches of information exchange are mainly depended on the modes of data transmission and the spectacular of advanced communication technologies. The real detailed complexity inside the media transmission platform is masked in the proposed architecture of MAS so that the complex processes of data dissemination can be coped with reasonably and simply by way of decentralized intelligent agents. According to the simulation result and the comparison with other typical models of MAS, the presented architecture of MAS and its running mechanism exhibit better advantages such as flexibility, robustness and expansibility suited to the collaboration and interaction among decentralized agents in MAS. Toward the future research, some related optimal algorithms and running mechanisms concerning the integrated performance and the complexity of the MAS's architecture will be investigated and developed.

Abstract

A novel image segmentation algorithm derived in a fuzzy entropy framework is presented. First, the fuzzy entropy function is computed based on fuzzy region width and the Shannon's function of the image. Then all of the local entropy maxima are located in order to find the optimal partition for image segmentation scene local entropy maxima corresponding to the uncertainties among various regions in the image. This algorithm is very effective for the images whose histograms have no clear peaks and valleys, or the number of the segmentation classes is unknown, or the probabilistic model of the image and the different segmentation classes are unknown. A large number of experiments have been carried out on different kinds of images. Good performances of the proposed algorithm have been achieved.
