The drainage modulus is an important indicator in the drainage system design of farmlands. Changes in the drainage modulus determine the effectiveness of drainage projects, and thus agricultural production. Thus, in this research, the trends in the drainage modulus of the Huaibei Plain, China were examined. The drainage modulus was estimated using the average draining method at 16 meteorological stations located in different areas of the Huaibei Plain during the period of 1960–2017. The trends of the drainage modulus were investigated using the Mann–Kendall test and Sen’s slope estimator. The periodicities of the drainage modulus were investigated using wavelet analysis. The major environmental factors affecting the drainage modulus were investigated using the contribution rate method. The results showed that the mean drainage modulus (q1, q3) had increasing trends and significant 2.4-year and 2.5-year periodicities, respectively. An increase in building lots was the main factor that influenced the variability in the drainage modulus. Rapid urbanization increased the risk of agricultural waterlogging. These results provide important references for scientific planning in agriculture and farmland drainage engineering.

Regulation of optical reversibility is always a fascinating topic. For noble-metal/semiconductor system, bidirectional photochromism weakens the stability of information storage. How to control interfacial electron transfer has become a big challenge for permanent memory. Herein, we construct Ag/Ta₂O₅/TiO₂ dual-heterojunction films as nonvolatile holographic elements. Ta₂O₅/TiO₂ heterojuction plays a role of electron trap to receive the UV-excited electrons in the system. The size distribution of the deposited Ag nanoparticles is widened after introducing Ta₂O₅ onto TiO₂ nanoporous films, accompanied with the improved absorbance in long-wavelength region and enhanced plasmonic surface resonance. Based on such properties, the dual-heterojunction holographic element resists UV damage effectively. Under the repeated stimulus of UV/visible light, it is exhibited that the holographic data retention is gradually enhanced. This work provides a bright way to smart storage and artificial synaptic photonic devices.

Caused by Yersinia pestis , plague ravaged the world through three known pandemics: the First or the Justinianic (6th–8th century); the Second (beginning with the Black Death during c.1338–1353 and lasting until the 19th century); and the Third (which became global in 1894). It is debatable whether Y. pestis persisted in European wildlife reservoirs or was repeatedly introduced from outside Europe (as covered by European Union and the British Isles). Here, we analyze environmental data (soil characteristics and climate) from active Chinese plague reservoirs to assess whether such environmental conditions in Europe had ever supported “natural plague reservoirs”. We have used new statistical methods which are validated through predicting the presence of modern plague reservoirs in the western United States. We find no support for persistent natural plague reservoirs in either historical or modern Europe. Two factors make Europe unfavorable for long-term plague reservoirs: 1) Soil texture and biochemistry and 2) low rodent diversity. By comparing rodent communities in Europe with those in China and the United States, we conclude that a lack of suitable host species might be the main reason for the absence of plague reservoirs in Europe today. These findings support the hypothesis that long-term plague reservoirs did not exist in Europe and therefore question the importance of wildlife rodent species as the primary plague hosts in Europe.

Plasmonic holography is generally regarded as an effective technology for 3D display that meets the requirements of the human visual system. However, low readout stability and large cross talk in the frequency field during a plasmonic photo-dissolution reaction set a huge obstacle for application of color holography. Herein, we propose a new, to the best of our knowledge, route toward producing exciting frequency sensitive holographic-inscription based on plasmonic nano-Ag adaptive growth. Donor-molecule-doped plasmonic polymers on polyethylene terephthalate substrates exhibit wide spectral response range, accurate optical frequency sensing, and bending durability. The resonant plasmonic particles act as optical antennas and transfer energy to surrounding organic matrices for nanocluster production and non-resonant particle growth. The surface relief hologram is also highly dependent on the excitation frequency, so we successfully obtain a controllable cross-periodic structure with amplitude/phase mixed information, as well as color holographic display. This work provides a bright way to high-density storage, information steganography, and virtual/augmented reality.

Robbeets et al.1 argue that the dispersal of the so-called “Transeurasian” languages, a highly disputed language superfamily comprising the Turkic, Mongolian, Tungusic, Koreanic, and Japonic language families, was driven by Neolithic farmers in the West Liao River region of China. They adduce evidence from linguistics, archaeology, and genetics to support their claim. An admirable feature of the Robbeets et al.’s paper is that all their datasets can be accessed. However, a closer investigation of all three types of evidence reveals fundamental problems with each of them. Robbeets et al.’s analysis of the linguistic data does not conform to the minimal standards required by traditional scholarship in historical linguistics and contradicts their own stated sound correspondence principles. A reanalysis of the genetic data finds that they do not conclusively support the farming-driven dispersal of Turkic, Mongolian, and Tungusic, nor the two-wave spread of farming to Korea. Their archaeological data contain little phylogenetic signal, and we failed to reproduce the results supporting their core hypotheses about migrations.Given the severe problems we identify in all three parts of the “triangulation” process, we conclude that there is neither conclusive evidence for a Transeurasian language family nor for associating the five different language families with the spread of Neolithic farmers from the West Liao River region.

In conditioning air load prediction model based on SVR model, the Simulated Annealing (SA) has been provided in order to surmount the disadvantage that the SVR model selects learning parameters depending on experience. The Modified Simulated Annealing (MSA) has been proposed to optimize the SVR prediction model, in which the annealing plan and disturbance range has been improved. Case researches in the paper show that MSA algorithm is of strong global optimization capability, good robustness and short calculation consumption. Compared with SA-SVR model and the VFSA-SVR model, MSA-SVR air conditioning load prediction model, the results show SVR model parameters obtained through MSA optimization can effectively improve the predication accuracy and stability of the air conditioning load prediction.

In this paper, we propose an intelligent building control system based on BrowserIServer(B/S) architecture that allows intelligent control of construction equipment and integrate multiple subsystems. The system is compatible with three communication protocols and intellectualized control is realized by logic control based on Event-Condition-Action(ECA) rules. The system adopts Agilor distributed real-time database system to ensure high real-time performance. The design of distributed system ensures the stability of system by ensuring that the service failure in a single area of system does not affect normal operation of other areas. The system provides six kinds of interfaces, which makes system have strong integration. The research of system architecture provides a general model in the field of intelligent building for enabling communication and computing infrastructure for industrial Artificial Intelligence(AI).
