Abstract Economic growth is a primary objective for countries worldwide since it has a pivotal impact on enhancing living standards, alleviating poverty, and promoting general societal well-being. Hence, this study examines the connection between life expectancy, environmental pollution, and economic growth in Somalia by using time-series data from 1990 to 2020. The study employs the autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) bound test and fully modified ordinary least squares (FMOLS) method. The empirical results of the bound test indicate that life expectancy is statistically significant and positively affects economic growth in the long run. However, it does not significantly affect economic growth in the short run. Furthermore, environmental pollution does not significantly impact economic growth in the long run but enhances it in the short run. The study indicates that life expectancy improves economic growth. Based on the empirical evidence, the study provides several policy implications, including public health initiatives, health-related infrastructure, and sustainable environmental practices, which are recommended.

Indonesia is a country rich in cultural diversity and home to the largest Muslim population in the world. The study explores the communication strategy of da’wah among Generation Z through digital media. Against diverse cultural influences, the research specifically aims to unravel the intricacies of employing digital media to convey moderate Islam's universal values. Qualitative methods such as interviews, observations, and documentation were employed to internalize the universal values of moderate Islam. What emerges from this exploration is the pivotal role of social media in crafting effective communication strategies. The findings, drawn from insights provided by five informants aged 21-24, underscore the significant role of social media in shaping effective communication strategies for proselytization and fostering the embrace of moderate Islamic values within Generation Z. This research not only contributes to the scholarly discourse on religious communication but also provides practical implications for those engaged in proselytizing efforts.

Education plays a crucial role in moving towards a sustainable future. The United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development has advocated education for sustainable development (ESD) to promote global sustainability. UNESCO supports ESD as a way to provide society with the knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes needed for sustainable living. While considerable progress has been made in many developed countries, particularly in higher education institutions, and to some extent in developing countries, similar success has not been observed in Somalia’s higher education establishments. This study examined the influence of ESD on university students’ conduct in Somalia. Through cluster sampling, 251 students from SIMAD and Hormuud Universities in Mogadishu were chosen to participate by completing a questionnaire. The research revealed a significant positive connection between ESD and students’ behavior. The findings emphasize the importance of integrating ESD into higher education curricula to encourage cultural norms that endorse environmentally friendly practices. This investigation offers valuable insights for academics, policymakers, and businesses seeking to advance sustainability within educational settings and beyond.

Background Due to the worldwide reach of the COVID-19 pandemic, authorities across the globe deemed it essential to enforce exceptional containment measures. Maintaining physical activity (PA) during this time was only feasible through engaging in activities at home. Therefore, this study focused on elucidating the levels of PA and well-being among Somali students in the aftermath of the lockdown measures implemented by governments at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods This study was conducted in Somalia among undergraduate students studying at Somali International University. A total of 1266 students were included in the present study. An online survey was utilized to measure participant PA behavior. The assessment of PA was conducted in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, utilizing the Godin Leisure questionnaire. The study showed that 85.8% of the study participants (n = 1086) were between the ages of 17 and 22. More than half of the participants (58.7%, n = 743) were female and had no other employment (57.3%, n = 743). Results Jogging was the most frequently reported PA (57.3%, n = 726), and PA level was on average 59.7 minutes per day (SD = 25.9). Also, most of the study participants were in their last year (82.1%). In the regression analysis, age, gender, academic year, and work status were significant predictors of being physically active after the COVID-19 pandemic. Conclusion Factors affecting PA after the COVID-19 pandemic include age, gender, academic year, and work status. Males, younger individuals, and those who engage in outdoor exercise are more likely to be physically active. Once the COVID-19 restrictions were relaxed, undergraduate students in Somalia were physically active. A high level of PA appears to be advantageous for public health. Universities in Somalia should uphold school policies that promote an active lifestyle among students, aiming to maintain or enhance the existing level of PA.

The study was conducted to discover the nutritional quality of Malva parviflora leaves powder (MPLP) thanks to its richness in protein and nutritious minerals. Moreover, MPLP was incorporated in the manufacture of beef sausage at different levels (0.5%, 1%, and 1.5%) to measure its effect on the most important quality criteria (chemical composition, physicochemical properties, and sensory properties) during 9 days of refrigeration storage. According to our knowledge this is the first time to incorporate the Malva parviflora as a potential functional ingredient in manufacturing healthier and cheaper beef sausages. Adding MPLP 1.5% has a positive effect on protein % (23.48%) compared with the control group (19,85). Despite this, the concentration of MPLP 1.5% significantly decreases the sensory proprieties regarding color and taste due to the presence of the greenish tint and the bitter taste. Whereas, in our study, we recommend the addition of a concentration of MPLP 0.5% since it has no negative effect on the physiochemical or sensory characteristics of beef sausage.

The background of this research is a repeatedly ethical code violation by online media in Indonesia. Whereas on June 2020, Press Council warned the media, through a memorandum Number: 01/Seruan-DP/VI/202, to call every media, including online media, to work professionally in the news reporting about public issues. Therefore, the objective of this research was to find out the contributing factors of journalistic ethical code violations. In addition, this research also seeks to formulate solutions to minimize the violations. This research employed a constructive approach with a qualitative method. The data were collected through news observation in the three selected online media over the period of three months and through in-depth interviews with several informants. Several groups of informants are involved in this research, with the managers of the selected online media as primary informants. The secondary informants in this research are supervisory organizations or media observers verified by the Press Council, academicians/experts, and representatives of the Press Council. The research shows that the status of online media organizations influences the repeatedly journalistic ethical code violations. For example, verified online media by Press Council violates the ethical code more repeatedly than unverified online media.

Background: Medication administration through enteral feeding tubes requires careful consideration, as several medications are unsuitable for such administration due to interactions with feeding formulas or adverse effects when crushed. These errors can lead to feeding tube obstruction, reduced drug efficacy, or drug toxicity. Objective: This study aimed to assess medication errors in geriatric patients using enteral feeding tubes who were enrolled in a home health care program. Method: This was a cross-sectional observational study conducted at the Ministry of Health Government Hospital in Makkah City, Saudi Arabia. Medication errors related to chronic oral drugs in geriatric patients using enteral feeding tubes were evaluated, including inappropriate medications for enteral tube administration, inappropriate preparation, drug-nutrient interaction, and availability of liquid formulation, following established guidelines. Results: Of the total 233 medications prescribed to 46 patients receiving enteral tube feeding at home, 49.3% exhibited at least one form of medication error, totaling 135 errors. Medication errors were highly prevalent among the patients (93.4%), with the leading cause being the administration of medications unsuitable for enteral feeding tubes (33.3%), predominantly due to the use of controlled release or enteric-coated formulations. Conclusion: This study underscores the high prevalence of medication errors in older patients receiving enteral feeding at home. To ensure patient safety and optimal outcomes, healthcare professionals should utilize available resources and seek expert advice when selecting medications and dosage forms for tube-fed patients. Pharmacists play a critical role in promoting safe drug use and can greatly contribute by educating patient caregivers on proper medication preparation and administration techniques, thus preventing harm to patients.

Objective: In a world where digital media is deeply engrained into our everyday lives, there lies an opportunity to leverage interactions with technology for health and wellness. The Vision Performance Index (VPI) leverages natural human–technology interaction to evaluate visual function using visual, cognitive, and motor psychometric data over 5 domains: field of view, accuracy, multitracking, endurance, and detection. The purpose of this study was to describe a novel method of evaluating holistic visual function through video game-derived VPI score data in patients with specific ocular pathology. Design: Prospective comparative analysis. Participants: Patients with dry eye, glaucoma, cataract, diabetic retinopathy (DR), age-related macular degeneration, and healthy individuals. Methods: The Vizzario Inc software development kit was integrated into 2 video game applications, Balloon Pop and Picture Perfect, which allowed for generation of VPI scores. Study participants were instructed to play rounds of each video game, from which a VPI score was compiled. Main Outcome Measures: The primary outcome was VPI overall score in each comparison group. Vision Performance Index component, subcomponent scores, and psychophysical inputs were also compared. Results: Vision Performance Index scores were generated from 93 patients with macular degeneration (n = 10), cataract (n = 10), DR (n = 15), dry eye (n = 15), glaucoma (n = 16), and no ocular disease (n = 27). The VPI overall score was not significantly different across comparison groups. The VPI subcomponent “reaction accuracy” score was significantly greater in DR patients (106 ± 13.2) versus controls (96.9 ± 11.5), P = 0.0220. The VPI subcomponent “color detection” score was significantly lower in patients with DR (96.8 ± 2.5; p=0.0217) and glaucoma (98.5 ± 6.3; P = 0.0093) compared with controls (101 ± 11). Psychophysical measures were statistically significantly different from controls: proportion correct (lower in DR, age-related macular degeneration), contrast errors (higher in cataract, DR), and saturation errors (higher in dry eye). Conclusions: Vision Performance Index scores can be generated from interactions of an ocular disease population with video games. The VPI may offer utility in monitoring select ocular diseases through evaluation of subcomponent and psychophysical input scores; however, future larger-scale studies must evaluate the validity of this tool.
