Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate students' profiles based on their attitudes towards statistics in Universiti Utara Malaysia. This study adopted a quantitative survey design. The questionnaires were administered on a sample of 274. The Stratified sampling method was used to generate the sample. The methodologies used were descriptive statistics, factor analysis and statistical test to compare between demographic factors such as gender, race, and qualification. Findings revealed that seven factors that explain the attitude of the students were self-determination, cognitive competence, effort, a value of statistics in professional life, difficulty, statistical solving and value of statistics in everyday life. The results of the descriptive statistical analyses found that students have a positive attitude towards statistics. The finding suggested that statistics should be revealed more practically to developing a more positive attitude towards statistics can further promote the learning process and students' ability to apply the concepts. © 2020.

Abstract

Electronic Records and Information Management (e-RIM) framework is paramount for organizations in formulating strategies for managing, use, maintain and protect electronic records and information (e-RI). Since the existing frameworks are nearing to perfection (resulting in difficulty to achieve and implement), therefore inappropriate for adoption particularly by the Malaysia public agencies. The absence of an appropriate framework has hindered the public agencies from implementing the satisfactory e-RIM initiative. This paper seeks to develop a framework which is grounded on the concept of reasonableness rather than perfection. Prior to developing the framework, it is deem necessary to explore and understand the contexts underlying the e-RIM issues and problems and the criteria that manifest the concept of reasonableness. It is identified that people, organization, technology and processes are the interrelated contexts underlying the issues and problems in Malaysia public agencies while articulation of e-RIM vision, equilibrium and adaptability, rationale, practical, relevant and responsive are the criteria that manifest the concept of reasonableness. Abstract

One of the goals of the AIRFLY (AIR FLuorescence Yield) experiment is to measure the absolute fluorescence yield induced by electrons in air to better than 10% precision. We introduce a new technique for measurement of the absolute fluorescence yield of the 337 nm line that has the advantage of reducing the systematic uncertainty due to the detector calibration. The principle is to compare the measured fluorescence yield to a well known process - the Cerenkov emission. Preliminary measurements taken in the BFT (Beam Test Facility) in Frascati, Italy with 350 MeV electrons are presented. Beam tests in the Argonne Wakefield Accelerator at the Argonne National Laboratory, USA with 14 MeV electrons have also shown that this technique can be applied at lower energies., presented at the 5th Fluorescence Workshop, El Escorial - Madrid, Spain, 16 - 20 September 2007

Abstract

In the fluorescence detection of ultra high energy ( ≳ 10 18 eV ) cosmic rays, the number of emitted fluorescence photons is assumed to be proportional to the energy deposited in air by shower particles. We have performed measurements of the fluorescence yield in atmospheric gases excited by electrons over energies ranging from keV to hundreds of MeV in several accelerators. We found that within the measured energy ranges the proportionality holds at the level of few %.

Abstract

In this letter, we propose a new architecture of Time Wavelength Division Multiplexing Passive Optical Network (TWDM PON) system to support dynamic multi wavelength allocation (DMWA) in both upstream and downstream directions using an integrated semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) and arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) with multi wavelength select continuous wave (CW) pump probe signal module. The significance of this architecture is the flexible routing function with the capability of multicasting and broadcasting between multiple optical line terminal (OLT) PON port with multiple optical distribution network (ODN) link using a new wavelength tuning free (WTF) OLT transmitter module to eliminate wavelength tuning delay in downstream signal utilizing multicasting Cross Gain Modulation (XGM) wavelength conversion. The experimental results show that 4 λ × 10-Gb/s TWDM PON system can be used to connect 4096 users with the conventional fixed wavelength OLT transceivers with 36 dB link loss.
