The interfacial behaviors between protective coatings and substrate single-crystal superalloys significantly impact their service performances. This work focuses on the elements interdiffusion and microstructural evolution at the interface between a NiCrAlY coating and a series of high-Mo Ni3Al-based single-crystal superalloys, through the coupled phase-field simulations and DICTRA kinetics calculations of their model systems. The critical roles of Al and Cr played in the microstructural evolution at coating/superalloy interface have been confirmed, which requires the appropriate content decreases of Al and Cr in the coating at 1100 °C. However, the addition of Mo reduces the driving force of element diffusion from coating to substrate by increasing the activities of Al and Cr in superalloy. Moreover, increasing the Mo content in superalloy from 8 wt% to 10 wt% could also counteract the promoting effect of Al on Ni mobility and mitigate the γ′ coarsening and detrimental TCP precipitation. Therefore, the effects of Mo enable the reasonable increase of Al content in coating to better balance the interfacial stability and oxidation resistance of coated superalloy, besides its advantage in reducing the anisotropy of TCP precipitate. The obtained interfacial evolution mechanisms resulting from the phase transformation thermodynamics and element interdiffusion kinetics are expected to aid the coating design for advanced single-crystal superalloys servicing at ultra-high temperature.

The microstructural characteristics of brazing seams significantly influence the mechanical properties of brazed joints. In this study, a novel Ni3Al-based single crystal superalloy(Alloy 1) with high Mo content was brazed with a Ni–B–Si–Ti filler. The evolution of microstructure and mechanical properties of brazed joints were investigated after thermal exposure at 1000 °C up to 300h. The brazed joint was mainly composed of the athermally solidified zone (ASZ), isothermal solidification zone (ISZ), diffusion affected zone (DAZ), and base metal (BM). As the increase of thermal exposure time, the tensile strength of the joint at 980 °C decreases from 625 MPa at 0h of thermal exposure to 443 MPa after 300h of thermal exposure. It is suggested that as the duration of thermal exposure increases, the skeleton phases gradually aggregate at the ASZ/ISZ interface, reducing the relative barrier effect of the skeleton in ASZ. Simultaneously, the ASZ/ISZ interface becomes smoother over time, which in turn leads to rapid crack propagation.

Constant high temperature conditions in tunnel not only significantly reduced the labor efficiency of workers but also affected their physical and mental health. However, the traditional design of ventilation and cooling for high geothermal tunnel construction only considers the control of environment temperature and ignores the thermal comfort state of the workers, which will increase the potential risk of tunnel safety accidents. Therefore, this paper adopted the methods of scene testing, theoretical analysis and numerical simulation to establish a modified evaluation model applicable to the thermal comfort of workers in high geothermal tunnels. By analyzing the temperature distribution pattern of heat-sensitive parts of workers engaged in different labor intensity under different air supply parameters, the design strategy for ventilation and cooling of high-temperature tunnels was refined on the basis of ensuring that the environment temperature and thermal comfort meet the requirements. The results show that ventilation design parameters that satisfy the environmental temperature control criteria are equally adequate for worker thermal comfort at light-intensity work. However, when the ambient temperature is higher than 40 °C, the thermal comfort of workers engaged in medium-intensity work still does not meet the requirements, even if the ambient temperature already meets the criteria. It is recommended that the wind speed be increased by at least 8.3 %, 15.6%and 28.6 % for ambient temperatures of 40 °C, 45 °C and 50 °C, respectively. More effective cooling techniques should be tried to further enhance thermal comfort for workers engaged in heavy workloads especially in hot environments exceeding 40 °C.

Academic debate still exists as to whether and how multi-scale microstructure recovery is linked to creep properties rejuvenation of superalloys. We propose a rejuvenation heat treatment (RHT) for one single-crystal superalloy crept at 1100 °C/120 MPa, by which the degraded phase- and dislocation-microstructure can be recovered to standard heat treatment one. Despite experiencing different plastic deformation, such recovered microstructure leads to nearly a fixed 20% improvement in creep life. Through triple creep-RHT-creep cycle tests, the complete rejuvenation of creep life after special creep time has been validated, while the plastic deformation limit increases, where creep properties recoverability remains.

ABSTRACTOsteoporosis (OP) is one of the epidemic diseases worldwide. Recently, a high-fat diet (HFD) makes the effects on skeletal microarchitecture still unclear. To explain the problem, we searched studies from PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane library to investigate the effect of HFD-induced obesity on bone structure and metabolism for mice from June 2010 to June 2020. ABSTRACTTo evaluate the effects of simvastatin on the degeneration of cartilage and subchondral bone in a mice model of osteoarthritis (OA) induced by obesity. Thirty male 3-month-old C57BL/6J mice were randomized into three groups: mice with normal diet + vehicle (distilled water) (Control), mice with High-fat diet + vehicle (HFD), mice with HFD + Simvastatin (HFD+S). HFD+S group were treated with simvastatin (10 mg/kg/day) for 12 weeks. The pathology of OA was assessed by histomorphology analyses, immunohistochemistry, micro-computed tomography, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Histomorphological analysis revealed that OA was significantly exacerbated by the HFD-induced obesity and markedly alleviated by the simvastatin intervention. In details, simvastatin ameliorated the abnormal metabolic status and cartilage lesions, significantly increased aggrecan and collagen-II expression and decreased the expression of MMP-13 and leptin in cartilage. Furthermore, the results of micro-CT analysis revealed that the HFD+S group exhibited higher BMD, BV/TV, and Tb.N values but a lower Tb.Sp value than that of the HFD group. Serum glucose, leptin, and IL-1β concentrations were significantly correlated with the OARSI score. Histomorphological analysis revealed that OA was significantly exacerbated by the HFD-induced obesity and markedly alleviated by the simvastatin intervention. In details, simvastatin ameliorated the abnormal metabolic status and cartilage lesions, significantly increased aggrecan and collagen-II expression and decreased the expression of MMP-13 and leptin in cartilage. The HFD-induced obesity aggravates articular degeneration and deterioration in subchondral bone, which could be improved by the intervention of simvastatin, suggesting that simvastatin may be a potential candidate for amelioration of the progression of obesity induced-OA.

The occurrence of space weather events, notably geomagnetic storms driven by various solar wind structures, can significantly alter Earth’s electromagnetic environment. In this study, we examined the interplanetary origins and statistical distribution of 384 geomagnetic storms (Dstmin ≤ −50 nT) that occurred from September 1996 to December 2023. We statistically analyzed the correlations between storm intensity and solar wind parameters (SWPs) across different subsets. The results indicate that (1) the solar activity level, indicated by the sunspot number (SSN), and the number of geomagnetic storms during the first four years of the 25th solar cycle were intermediate, compared to the first four years of the 23rd and 24th solar cycles. Specifically, ICME-related structures caused 80% of the strong storms (Dstmin ≤ −100 nT) and 34% of the moderate storms (−100 nT < Dstmin ≤ −50 nT) from 2020 to 2023. (2) The storm intensity correlated with the peak and/or time-integral values of the southward interplanetary magnetic field (IMF Bs), the dawn–dusk electric field (Ey), the Akasofu’s function (ε), and dynamic pressure (Psw) to varying extents. Strong storms exhibited higher correlation levels than moderate ones and ICME-related storms showed larger correlation levels compared to those driven by other sources. (3) Compared with the storms from 1996-09 to 2000-08, the storms that occurred from 2020 to 2023 had lower correlations with the peak values of the IMF Bs and Ey but higher correlations with the peak value of ε and the time-integral values of the IMF Bs, Ey, Psw, and ε. (4) Among the 174 events that featured continuous southward IMF during the storm’s main phase, the duration of southward IMF during about 66.7% of moderate storms and 51.5% of strong storms were less than 13 h. Continuous southward IMF resulted in more direct and efficient energy coupling, enhancing the correlation between the peak values of SWPs and storm intensity but weakening the relationships with the time-integral values of SWPs. Notably, when the southward IMF persisted for a longer duration (e.g., ∆t > 13 h), the continuous energy input further enhanced correlations with both peak and integral values of SWPs, leading to stronger overall correlations with storm intensity. This analysis sheds light on the intricate relationships between geomagnetic storms and their solar wind drivers, emphasizing the significant influence of ICME-related structures and the duration of southward IMF on storm intensity.

Driven by the scientific objective of geophysical field detection and natural hazard monitoring from space, China launched an electromagnetic satellite, which is known as the China Seismo-Electromagnetic Satellite (CSES-01), on 2 February 2018, into a circular sun-synchronous orbit with an altitude of about 507 km in the ionosphere. The CSES-01 has been in orbit for over 6 years, successfully exceeding its designed 5-year lifespan, and will continually operate as long as possible. A second identical successor (CSES-02) will be launched in December 2024 in the same orbit space. The ionosphere is a highly dynamic and complicated system, and it is necessary to comprehensively understand the electromagnetic environment and the physical effects caused by various disturbance sources. The motivation of this report is to introduce the typical electromagnetic waves, mainly in the ELF/VLF band (i.e., ~100 Hz to 25 kHz), recorded by the CSES-01 in order to call the international community for deep research on EM wave activities and geophysical sphere coupling mechanisms. The wave spectral properties and the wave propagation parameters of those typical EM wave activities in the upper ionosphere are demonstrated in this study based on wave vector analysis using the singular value decomposition (SVD) method. The analysis shows that those typical and common natural EM waves in the upper ionosphere mainly include the ionospheric hiss and proton whistlers in the ELF band (below 1 kHz), the quasiperiodic (QP) emissions, magnetospheric line radiations (MLR), the falling-tone lightning whistlers, and V-shaped streaks in the ELF/VLF band (below 20 kHz). The typical artificial EM waves in the ELF/VLF band, such as power line harmonic radiation (PLHR) and radio waves in the VLF band, are also well recorded in the ionosphere.

The ionospheric quasi-periodic wave is a type of typical and common electromagnetic wave phenomenon occurring in extremely low-frequency (ELF) and very low-frequency ranges (VLF). These emissions propagate in a distinct whistler-wave mode, with varying periodic modulations of the wave intensity over time scales from several seconds to a few minutes. We developed an automatic detection model for the QP waves in the ELF band recorded by the China Seismo-Electromagnetic Satellite. Based on the 827 QP wave events, which were collected through visual screening from the electromagnetic field observations, an automatic detection model based on the Transformer architecture was built. This model, comprising 34.27 million parameters, was trained and evaluated. It achieved mean average precision of 92.3% on the validation dataset, operating at a frame rate of 39.3 frames per second. Notably, after incorporating the proton cyclotron frequency constraint, the model displayed promising performance. Its lightweight design facilitates easy deployment on satellite equipment, significantly enhancing the feasibility of on-board detection.

Objectives: Adjacent segment disc degeneration (ASDD) is one of the long-term sequelae of spinal fusion, which is more susceptible with osteoporosis. As an anti-osteoporosis drug, strontium ranelate (SR) has been reported to not only regulate bone metabolism but also cartilage matrix formation. However, it is not yet clear whether SR has a reversal or delaying effect on fusion-induced ASDD in a model of osteoporosis. Materials and methods: Fifth three-month-old female Sprague-Dawley rats that underwent L4-L5 posterolateral lumbar fusion (PLF) with spinous-process wire fixation 4 weeks after bilateral ovariectomy (OVX) surgery. Animals were administered vehicle (V) or SR (900 mg/kg/d) orally for 12 weeks post-PLF as follows: Sham+V, OVX + V, PLF + V, OVX + PLF + V, and OVX + PLF + SR. Manual palpation and X-ray were used to evaluate the state of lumbar fusion. Adjacent-segment disc was assessed by histological (VG staining and Scoring), histomorphometry (Disc Height, MVD, Calcification rate and Vascular Bud rate), immunohistochemical (Col-II, Aggrecan, MMP-13, ADAMTS-4 and Caspase-3), and mRNA analysis (ColI, Col-II, Aggrecan, MMP-13 and ADAMTS-4). Adjacent L6 vertebrae microstructures were evaluated by microcomputed tomography. Results: Manual palpation and radiographs showed clear evidence of the fused segment's immobility. After 12 weeks of PLF surgery, a fusion-induced ASDD model was established. Low bone mass caused by ovariectomy can significantly exacerbate ASDD progression. SR exerted a protective effect on adjacent segment intervertebral disc with the underlying mechanism possibly being associated with preserving bone mass to prevent spinal instability, maintaining the functional integrity of endplate vascular microstructure, and regulating matrix metabolism in the nucleus pulposus and annulus fibrosus. Discussion: Anti-osteoporosis medication SR treatments not only maintain bone mass and prevent fractures, but early intervention could also potentially delay degenerative conditions linked to osteoporosis. Taken together, our results suggested that SR might be a promising approach for the intervention of fusion-induced ASDD with osteoporosis.

Abstract Background Treatment of distal tibial fractures is a challenge due to their specific anatomical location. However, there is no appropriate mouse model to simulate a clinical distal tibial fracture for basic research. The aim of this investigation was to evaluate the feasibility of simulating a clinical fracture of the distal tibia of mice and to investigate the effect of ovariectomy (OVX)-induced osteoporosis on fracture healing in this model. Methods Sixty female 8-week-old C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into two groups, either sham or OVX. A semi-fixation distal tibia fracture was established in the right tibia after 8 weeks of OVX. The right tibias were collected at 7, 14, 21, and 28 days post fracture. Results In the semi-fixation distal tibia fracture model, the posterior callus in the sham group showed excessive bone resorption and lower bone mass phenotype compared with the anterior site; a similar trend was not found in the OVX group. At 28 days post fracture, the posterior callus was more mineralized than the anterior callus in the OVX group. Although the fracture healing of the sham group showed a special phenotype in this mode, the progress and quality of fracture healing were still better than those of the OVX group. Conclusion A semi-fixed distal tibial closed fracture mouse model was successfully established. In this model, excess bone resorption of the posterior callus impaired normal fracture healing, but not in OVX-induced osteoporotic bone. Although the stress shielding effect was not observed in the OVX group, impaired bone healing caused by OVX was still present. Our results suggest that this fracture model may have potential for studies on distal tibial fractures and stress shielding.

Full-length grouted bolts play a crucial role in geotechnical engineering thanks to their excellent stability. However, few studies have been concerned with the degrading performance of grouted rock bolts caused by extensive and continuous heat conduction from surrounding rocks in high-geothermal tunnels buried more than 100 m (temperature from 28 °C to 100 °C). To investigate the damage mechanism, we examined the time-varying behaviors of grouted rock bolts in both constant and variable temperature curing environments and their damage due to the coupling effects of high temperature and humidity through mechanical and micro-feature tests, including uniaxial compression test, pull-out test, computed tomography (CT) scans, X-ray diffraction (XRD) test, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), etc., and further analyzed the relationship between grout properties and anchorage capability. In order to facilitate a rapid assessment and control of the anchorage performance of anchors in different conditions, results of the interface bond degradation tests were correlated to environment parameters based on the damage model of interfacial bond stress proposed. Accordingly, a thermal hazard classification criterion for anchorage design in high-geothermal tunnels was suggested. Based on the reported results, although high temperature accelerated the early-stage hydration reaction of grouting materials, it affected the distribution and quantity of hydration products by inhibiting hydration degree, thus causing mechanical damage to the anchorage system. There was a significant positive correlation between the strength of the grouting material and the anchoring force. Influenced by the changes in grout properties, three failure patterns of rock bolts typically existed. Applying a hot-wet curing regime results in less reduction in anchorage force compared to the hot-dry curing conditions. The findings of this study would contribute to the design and investigations of grouted rock bolts in high-geothermal tunnels.

The Zhangheng-1 electromagnetic satellite is the space-based observation platform of China's stereoscopic earthquake observation system. Its scientific objective is to obtain the global geomagnetic field, electromagnetic field (waves), ionospheric plasma parameters, and high-energy particles for monitoring the dynamic variation of the ionosphere and the seismo-ionospheric disturbances over China and its surrounding areas to compensate for the deficiency of the ground-based observation system. The project explores new ways of earthquake monitoring and prediction by using space science. The first test probe of the Zhangheng-1 electromagnetic satellite series was successfully launched in February 2018, and has been stably operating in orbit for more than four years. The second is an operational probe that will be launched in early 2023. The in-flight commissioning test and cross-calibration work show that the Zhangheng-1 electromagnetic satellite can provide good data quality to support geophysics and space physics studies, and has obtained valuable scientific results in recent years. The global geomagnetic reference model built by Zhenghang-1 data is the first global geomagnetic field model built using only Chinese satellite data, allowing Chinese scientists to take an important role in the computation of the global geomagnetic reference model (IGRF) for the first time in over a century. The ionospheric electron density 3D model based on Zhangheng-1 satellite data can present the ionospheric structure characteristics. In natural hazards monitoring, Zhangheng-1 has shown good response ability to disturbances related to earthquakes, volcano eruptions, and geomagnetic storms. In terms of the lithosphere-atmosphere-ionosphere coupling mechanism study, the full-wave calculation method can provide the electromagnetic field changes between the lithosphere-ionosphere waveguide and the ionospheric wave propagation feature. The results from the full-wave model prove the capability of the Zhangheng-1 satellite's electromagnetic payloads to detect low-frequency electromagnetic emissions induced from the earthquake epicenter. The simulation and observation studies suggest that the Zhangheng-1 satellite can reflect seismic activities, very low frequency (VLF) transmitter, magnetic anomalies in the lithosphere, and lightning activities in the atmosphere. These recent scientific results show that the Zhangheng-1 electromagnetic satellite is consistent with other similar types of electromagnetic satellites worldwide, indicating its great potential in scientific application.

Under the background of climate change, freeze–thaw patterns tend to be turbulent: ecosystem function processes and their mutual feedback mechanisms with microorganisms in sensitive areas around the world are currently a hot topic of research. We studied changes of soil properties in alpine wetlands located in arid areas of Central Asia during the seasonal freeze–thaw period (which included an initial freezing period, a deep freezing period, and a thawing period), and analyzed changes in soil bacterial community diversity, structure, network in different stages with the help of high-throughput sequencing technology. The results showed that the α diversity of the soil bacterial community showed a continuous decreasing trend during the seasonal freeze–thaw period. The relative abundance of dominant bacterial groups (Proteobacteria (39.04%–41.28%) and Bacteroidota (14.61%–20.12%)) did not change significantly during the freeze–thaw period. At the genus level, different genera belonging to the same phylum dominated in different stages, or there were clusters of genera belonging to different phylum. For example, g_Ellin6067, g_unclassified_f_Geobacteraceae, g_unclassified_f_Gemmatimonadaceae coexisted in the same cluster, belonging to Proteobacteria, Desulfobacterota and Gemmatimonadota respectively, and their abundance increased significantly during the freezing period. This “adaptive freeze–thaw” phylogenetic model suggests a heterogeneous stress resistance of bacteria during the freeze–thaw period. In addition, network analysis showed that, although the bacterial network was affected to some extent by environmental changes during the initial freezing period and its recovery in the thawing period lagged behind, the network complexity and stability did not change much as a whole. Our results prove that soil bacterial communities in alpine wetlands are highly resistant and adaptive to seasonal freeze–thaw conditions. As far as we know, compared with short-term freeze–thaw cycles research, this is the first study examining the influence of seasonal freeze–thaw on soil bacterial communities in alpine wetlands. Overall, our findings provide a solid base for further investigations of biogeochemical cycle processes under future climate change.

The peak shear strength of the discontinuities can be estimated quickly by the roughness of the discontinuities. However, it is difficult to quantify the roughness of the structural surface using the single statistical parameter. In order to improve the prediction accuracy of the standard discontinuities roughness, eight statistical parameters in the aspects of undulating degree and trace length of 112 structural profile curves are collected, and the method of cross-validation of random forest regression model is used to evaluate the importance of statistical parameters. The evaluation results show that the importance of six statistical parameters, including the maximum undulation, undulation height standard deviation, mean undulating angle, undulating angle standard deviation, mean relative undulation rave and roughness profile index, accounts for 93.2%, and the regression fitting coefficient tends to be stable. Based on the importance assessment results, a random forest regression model is established. The model prediction results fitting excellence is up to 98.1%, showing the excellent prediction results. Compared with the traditional linear regression results, such as the results of the slope-based mean square root, structural function and roughness profile index, the random forest regression model has higher accuracy, smaller error and better fit. The random forest regression model is more suitable for structural roughness inversion.

The ionospheric hiss wave is a broadband incoherent and structureless electromagnetic emission. They appear in a relatively narrower frequency range between −0.1 and 1.5 kHz. However, according to previous observations, abnormal electromagnetic emissions during seismic activities also preferentially appear in the same frequency range of ionospheric hiss. This work studies the propagation features of the ionospheric hiss during seismic time based on the observations from the CSES (China Seismo-Electromagnetic Satellite). The wave vector analysis shows that during seismic activities, except for the downward propagating ionospheric hiss which is a common phenomenon in the ionosphere, there are upward propagating emissions mixed with the downward propagating ionospheric hiss. We made a statistical analysis of the shallow strong earthquakes (M ≥ 6.0, depth below 30 km) that occurred in mainland China from 2019 to 2022. We selected the ionospheric hiss events recorded by orbits passing over the epicenters within a time window (the 1-month prior to and 1-week after the main shock). We found that although most of the events are the typical downward propagating ionospheric hiss waves, however, there are certain events mixed with the upward propagating emissions. The statistical distribution analysis of wave propagation parameters shows that the major part of wave normal angles vary from 40 to 60, the azimuthal angles predominately attain below 40, and the ellipticity shows a more complicated feature varying around ± 0.5, and the planarity values predominate at values between 0.6 and 1. The frequency band of the upward propagating ionospheric hiss mostly varies between 300 Hz and 800 Hz. To further study the behavior of such upward propagating ionospheric hiss wave during the seismic time, we compared the wave activities under non-seismic activity and quiet space weather conditions, and the results confirm that the occurrence rate of the upward propagating emissions under quiet conditions is far less than that in the seismic time. We suggest that there is a link between the upward propagating ionospheric hiss and the seismic activity, but the physical reason behind it still remains a puzzle to us.

To study the life-cycle seismic reliability analysis (SRA) of cable-stayed bridges (CSBs) taking into account chloride-induced corrosion and degradation of components, an actual railway CSB with uncertainties in structural geometry and material corrosion coefficients was employed in this investigation, and time-dependent models of CSB components at different service times were studied. Based on the OpenSees batch program, we adapted a mass numerical computation to obtain time-dependent non-linear seismic response and probability density function (PDF) of response via the multiplier dimensional-reduction method (MDRM) and the maximum entropy method with fractional moments (FM-MEM). Next, the time-dependent failure possibility of every component and the association coefficient between the failure modes of different parts were acquired. In the end, the product of the conditional marginal (PCM) approach was employed to obtain the life-cycle failure possibility of the CSB system. The results showed that the system failure possibility of the CSB in a corrosive environment increases significantly with increasing servicing time.

Abstract In recent years, along with the development and application of magnesium alloys, magnesium alloys have been widely used in automotive, aerospace, medicine, sports, and other fields. In the field of medical materials, magnesium not only has the advantage of light weight, high strength, and a density similar to that of human bone, but also has good biocompatibility and promotes the growth of human bone. However, the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of magnesium alloys need to be further improved to meet the requirements for human biodegradable implants. In this study, three alloys (mass fractions: Mg–10Zn, Mg–20Zn, and Mg–30Zn (wt.%)) were prepared using powder metallurgy by homogeneously mixing powders of the above materials in a certain amount with magnesium as the substrate through the addition of zinc elements, which also have good biocompatibility. The effect of zinc on the microstructure, mechanical properties, wear performance, and corrosion resistance of magnesium–zinc alloys was studied when the zinc content was different. The results show that compared with the traditional magnesium alloy using powder metallurgy, prepared magnesium alloy has good resistance to compression and bending, its maximum compressive stress can reach up to 318.96 MPa, the maximum bending strength reached 189.41 MPa, and can meet the mechanical properties of the alloy as a human bone-plate requirements. On the polarization curve, the maximum positive shift of corrosion potential of the specimens was 73 mv and the maximum decrease of corrosion-current density was 53.2%. From the comparison of the above properties, it was concluded that the three prepared alloys of which Mg–20% Zn had the best overall performance. Its maximum compressive stress, maximum bending strength, and corrosion-current density reached 318.96 MPa, 189.41 MPa and 2.08 × 10−5 A·cm−2 respectively, which are more suitable for use as human implant bone splints in human-body fluid environment. The mechanical properties of the sintered Mg–Zn alloys were analyzed using powder-metallurgy techniques, and their microstructure, micromotion wear properties, electrochemical corrosion properties and composition of the physical phases were analyzed and discussed.

Faults are inevitable in building energy systems, such as heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems. With the increasing utilization of these systems, their fault detection and diagnosis has become more significant for maintaining their operation and performance. The rapid development of data analytics has led to fault detection and diagnosis using data-based algorithms considering building intelligence. Feature engineering, which focuses on generating near minimum and optimal model inputs from the original dataset, is a fundamental technique to balance efficiency and accuracy of fault detection and diagnosis models. The generated inputs are fault features which ensures a better description of fault operations owing to their stronger fault indicative capability than original data. However, since most feature engineering research has been implemented alongside the development of data-based algorithms, most studies fail to effectively distinguish and understand their roles in fault detection and diagnosis models. To fill this research gap, this study presented the problems and mechanisms associated with feature engineering, comprehensively reviewed about 200 papers on the topic of feature engineering for heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration system fault detection and diagnosis tasks over the past 15 years. Firstly, feature engineering studies are divided according to their feature-generation technique, into manual and automated techniques. Next, feature engineering studies are analysed in terms of data type, system type, fault type, operation statue, methods and fault features. The desirable characteristics of feature engineering works are then discussed in terms of their capability of rapidly generating indicative, decoupled, interpretable and new fault features to enhance fault detection and diagnosis accuracy; the efficiency, reliability and robustness of feature engineering process; the mutual adaptability between feature engineering and fault detection and diagnosis; and their widespread applicability for more fault types and system operations. The challenges affecting feature engineering studies are discussed in terms of data volume, data diversity and quality, along with the performance evaluation of feature engineering with respect to feature engineering algorithms, fault detection and diagnosis models, fault features and online application constraints. Future work should aim to design a hybrid, heuristic, robust and automated feature engineering strategy under the guidance of expert knowledge and practical application constraints that consider the relationships between fault-related features and real-time fault impacts with energy consumption, occupants' thermal comfort, etc.

For heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems (HVACs), their operating performance depends largely on sensors and their accurate measurements. Various types of faults are inevitable to sensors amounted in HVACs during the system lifespan, which eventually makes system deviated from the normal operation. To explore sensor fault impacts on different HVACs, the thermostat offset fault was taken as an example. For the same office building in Wuhan, this study compared its influences on operational performance of three HVACs including the ground source heat pump (GSHP) system, the variable refrigerant flow (VRF) system and the chiller + boiler (CB) system. The three HVACs were simulated simultaneously by EnergyPlus for the same target building with same outdoor meteorological environment to make a relatively fair comparison. The thermostat offset fault was introduced into the three HVACs with bias amplitudes ranging from −5–5 °C at the interval of 1 °C. Further, the fault impacts were quantitatively analyzed from three aspects in terms of system energy consumption, operating performance and indoor thermal comfort. Results indicated that the thermostat offset fault with different bias amplitudes and offset directions have different impacts on the three systems. Compared with the other two systems, GSHP is less affected by the introduced thermostat offset fault.

Distributed control method plays an important role in the formation of a multi-agent system (MAS), which is the prerequisite for an MAS to complete its missions. However, the lack of considering the collision risk between agents makes many distributed formation control methods lose practicability. In this article, a distributed formation control method that takes collision avoidance into account is proposed. At first, the MAS formation control problem can be divided into pair-wise unit formation problems where each agent moves to the expected position and only needs to avoid one obstacle. Then, a deep Q network (DQN) is applied to model the agent's unit controller for this pair-wise unit formation. The DQN controller is trained by using reshaped reward function and prioritized experience replay. The agents in MAS formation share the same unit DQN controller but get different commands due to various observations. Finally, through the min-max fusion of value functions of the DQN controller, the agent can always respond to the most dangerous avoidance. In this way, we get an easy-to-train multi-agent collision avoidance formation control method. In the end, unit formation simulation and multi-agent formation simulation results are presented to verify our method.

60NiTi alloys have a tremendous potential to be used in aerospace, marine and automotive industries. There is still a need to further improve the deformability due to the high brittleness of the previously prepared 60NiTi. In this work, 200 °C hot silicone oil was selected as the quenching medium for 60NiTi for the first time to overcome its high brittleness. It is found that the unique microstructure of 60NiTi quenched by hot oil has a lamellar structure composed of a channel-like NiTi matrix and lenticular Ni4Ti3 phase containing a nano-lath NiTi phase. The 60NiTi exhibits a high compression fracture strain of 10% and large reversible strain of 7.5%; which originates from the superelastic behavior of the NiTi SMA constituent. Upon loading, the R phase reorientation releases the stress concentration at the initial stage; while the stress-induced martensitic transformation accommodates the large elastic deformation of the Ni4Ti3 phase at the later stage. This synergistic effect of the two promotes the compressive deformability.

In the present paper, the authors investigate the two weight, weak-(p, q) type norm inequalities for a class of sublinear operators 𝓣γ and their commutators [b, 𝓣γ] on weighted Morrey and Amalgam spaces. What should be stressed is that we introduce the new BMO type space and our results generalize known results before.

Fracture during the assembly process is an important failure mode for high-lock bolts used in the aviation industry, which greatly increases the potential of unpredictable accidents during service. In the current study, the underlying reasons for fracture during the assembly of a TC4 high-lock bolt was investigated using a tensile test and finite element analysis (FEA). The microstructure of the as-received bolt consisted of a high proportion of α phase, some β phase, and a small amount of α′ phase formed via martensite phase transformation during the rammer process. The experimental force–displacement curves revealed an average yield load of 55.9 kN and a breaking load of 67.65 kN. The corresponding yield strength was calculated to be 0.9 GPa, which was smaller than the standard value of TC4. This was attributed to the preload-induced stress concentration on the thread surface, leading to obvious strain hardening, which can lead to crack initiation. The effect of preload was further confirmed by the fractographies in which the initial crack was observed on the thread surface. The fractographies suggested that hybrid fracture occurred on the tensile loaded bolt. The initial failure was brittle fracture on the thread surface, transforming into ductile fracture in the screw. The results can contribute to understanding the effect of preload on the load carry capacity of high-lock bolts and provide a strategy to design its assembly specification.

Magnesium alloy, as an absorbable and implantable biomaterial, has been greatly developed in the application field of biomaterials in recent years due to its excellent biocompatibility and biomechanics. However, due to the poor corrosion resistance of magnesium alloy in the physiological environment, the degradation rate will be unbalanced, which seriously affects the clinical use. There are two main ways to improve the corrosion resistance of magnesium alloy: one is by adding alloying elements, the other is by surface modification technology. Compared with adding alloy elements, the surface coating modification has the following advantages: (1) The surface coating modification is carried out without changing the matrix elements of magnesium alloy, avoiding the introduction of other elements; (2) The corrosion resistance of magnesium alloy can be improved by relatively simple physical, chemical, or electrochemical improvement. From the perspective of corrosion resistance and biocompatibility of biomedical magnesium alloy materials, this paper summarizes the application and characteristics of six different surface coating modifications in the biomedical magnesium alloy field, including chemical conversion method, micro-arc oxidation method, sol-gel method, electrophoretic deposition, hydrothermal method, and thermal spraying method. In the last section, it looks forward to the development prospect of surface coating modification and points out that preparing modified coatings on the implant surface combined with various modification post-treatment technologies is the main direction to improve biocompatibility and realize clinical functionalization.

In the process of stimulated reservoir volume of tight reservoir, horizontal well can form three zones, the inner zone is multistage fracturing zone, the middle zone is skin damage zone, and the outer zone is undamaged zone. In this paper, a transient well test analysis model of multistage fracturing horizontal well in three area composite reservoir is proposed. Based on Laplace transformation, point source integration, and superposition principle, the infinite conductivity multifracture model of three area composite reservoir is obtained. The linear equations of finite conductivity multifracture in Laplace space are established by using the equal conditions of flow and pressure at the fracture wall. Gauss-Newton iteration method and Stehfest number are used to obtain the solution of wellbore pressure. The accuracy of the results is verified by numerical simulation. Then, the flow characteristics of multistage fracturing horizontal wells in three area composite reservoirs are analyzed by type curves. The flow is divided into ten stages, which are the bilinear flow, the linear flow, the first radial flow stage, the inner zone linear flow, the inner zone radial flow, the middle zone linear flow, the middle zone radial flow, the outer zone linear flow, the outer zone radial flow, and the boundary dominated flow. The pressure derivative curves show different characteristics in different flow stages. The influences of fracture conductivity, fracture spacing, radius ratio of the middle zone to inner zone, radius ratio of the outer zone to the middle zone, permeability ratio of inner zone to the middle zone, permeability ratio of inner zone to outer zone, storage capacity ratio of inner zone to the middle zone, and storage capacity ratio of inner zone to outer zone on type curves are analyzed. Finally, the application and reliability of the proposed model are verified by a case example.

A bottom water reservoir is universal in all reservoirs in the world. In the exploitation process of the bottom water reservoir, because the reservoir is in complete contact with bottom water, the natural energy supply of the bottom water reservoir is sufficient. At the same time, in the production process, the pressure drop generated by the formation is mainly concentrated near the wellbore, which leads to a short period of waterless oil production, fast water breakthrough, and fast water cut rise, which seriously affects the overall recovery factor and increases the risk of oil filed exploitation. Since the distribution of an interlayer enhances the heterogeneity of the reservoir, it has a prominent impact on the flow of oil and water in the bottom water reservoir. However, people know little about the impact of the interlayer on the bottom water reservoir. In this paper, the mathematical model of two-phase flow in the bottom water reservoir with the interlayer is proposed, and the numerical solution of the model is obtained by a finite element method. The influence of the distribution of the interlayer on the water cut rising law of the bottom water reservoir is analyzed. The results show that the bottom water is blocked by the interlayer and its own gravity and the rising height of the bottom water is limited, so that the interlayer has a significant inhibitory effect on the coning of the bottom water. The closer the interlayer is to the oil-water interface, the faster the water cut will rise; the narrower the interlayer is, the faster the bottom water ridge will advance; when the width of the interlayer is the same as that of the reservoir, the water cone will not appear; the higher the permeability of the interlayer is, the faster the upper body of the water cut will be; when the permeability of the reservoir and the interlayer is over 1000, the influence of the interlayer on the water cut rise is not obvious; the thickness of the interlayer on the water cut rise law has little effect. Finally, through the case analysis, it is proposed that the new horizontal wells should be arranged in the position where the interlayer develops. The findings of this study can help for the better understanding of control laws of the interlayer on the bottom water and providing a crucial theoretical basis for the development of the bottom water reservoir.

The abnormal electromagnetic emissions recorded by DEMETER (the Detection of Electro-Magnetic Emissions Transmitted from Earthquake Regions) satellite associated with the April 6, 2010 Mw 7.8 northern Sumatra earthquake are examined in this study. The variations of wave intensities recorded through revisiting orbits from August 2009 to May 2010 indicate that some abnormal enhancements at Extremely Low Frequency range of 300–800 Hz occurred from 10 to 3 days before the main shock, while they remained a relatively smooth trend during the quiet seismic activity times. The perturbation amplitudes relative to the background map which were built by using the same-time seasonal window (February 1 to April 30) data from 2008 to 2010 further suggest strong enhancements of wave intensities during the period prior to the earthquake. We further computed the wave propagation parameters for the electromagnetic field waveform data by using the Singular Value Decomposition method, and results show that there are certain portions of the Extremely Low Frequency emissions obliquely propagating upward from the Earth toward outer space direction at 10 and 6 days before the main shock. The potential energy variation of acoustic-gravity wave suggests the possible existence of acoustic-gravity wave stability with wavelengths roughly varying from 5.5 to 9.5 km in the atmosphere at the time of the main shock. In this study, we comprehensively investigated the link between the electromagnetic emissions and the earthquake activity through a convincing observational analysis, and preliminarily explored the seismic-ionospheric disturbance coupling mechanism, which is still not fully understood at present by the scientific community.

In this paper, a new rate decline analysis model of horizontal wells with variable conductivity and uneven distribution of multiple fractures is proposed. By Laplace transformation, point source integration, and superposition principle, solutions of multiple infinite conductivity fractures in closed reservoirs are obtained. By coupling Fredholm integral equation of variable conductivity, linear equations of variable conductivity fractures in Laplace space are obtained. Gauss-Newton iteration, Duhamel convolution, and Stehfest numerical inversion method are used to obtain the bottom hole production solution. The accuracy of the results is verified by comparing with Eclipse software simulation. Then, the influence of some important reservoir and fracture parameters on the production is analyzed. The calculative results show that the smaller the fracture spacing is, the earlier the fracture begins to decline, the more the production will decrease; the change of different fracture length with the total fracture length unchanged has almost no effect on the production; the angle between fracture and x-axis has an important effect on the production; the smaller the angle between fracture and x-axis is, the stronger the interference between fractures is, the higher the production; the initial fracture conductivity affects the early production behavior, and the higher the initial fracture conductivity, the higher the production; the larger the fracture declines index, the lower the production, but the decreasing range gradually decreases with the increase of the decline index; the larger the reservoir drainage radius, the later the energy depletion stage, the higher the production. At last, a good fitting effect is obtained by fitting an example of oil field. The model proposed in this paper enriches the model base of rate decline analysis of fractured horizontal wells and lays a theoretical foundation for efficient development and practice of tight reservoirs.

The magnesium alloys Mg-0.5Mn-2Zn, Mg-1.0Mn-2Zn, and Mg-1.5Mn-2Zn (wt.%) with potential biomedical applications, synthesized by powder metallurgy, were investigated to evaluate the influence of manganese content on their microstructure, mechanical properties, and corrosion resistance. The results show that Mg-Mn-Zn alloys prepared by powder metallurgy reached the maximum compressive stress of 316 MPa and the maximum bending strength of 186 MPa, showing their good resistance to compression and bending, and meeting the mechanical properties required for the human bone plate. With an increase in manganese content, the corrosion resistance improved. In the polarization curve, the maximum positive shift of corrosion potential was 92 mV and the maximum decrease of corrosion current density was 10.2%. It was concluded that, of the alloys tested, Mg-1.0Mn-2.0Zn (wt.%) had the best overall performance, and its maximum compressive stress force and corrosion current density reached 232.42 MPa and 1.32 × 10−5 A·cm−2, respectively, being more suitable for service in human body fluids.

This study reports the temporal and spatial distributions of the extremely/very low frequency (ELF/VLF) wave activities and the energetic electron fluxes in the ionosphere during an intense storm (geomagnetic activity index Dst of approximately −174 nT) that occurred on 26 August 2018, based on the observations by a set of detectors onboard the China Seismo-Electromagnetic Satellite (CSES). A good correlation of the ionospheric ELF/VLF wave activities with energetic electron precipitations during the various storm evolution phases was revealed. The strongest ELF/VLF emissions at a broad frequency band extending up to 20 kHz occurred from the near-end main phase to the early recovery phase of the storm, while the wave activities mainly appeared at the frequency range below 6 kHz during other phases. Variations in the precipitating fluxes were also spotted in correspondence with changing geomagnetic activity, with the max values primarily appearing outside of the plasmapause during active conditions. The energetic electrons at energies below 1.5 MeV got strong enhancements during the whole storm time on both the day and night side. Examinations of the half-orbit data showed that under the quiet condition, the CSES was able to depict the outer/inner radiation belt as well as the slot region well, whereas under disturbed conditions, such regions became less sharply defined. The regions poleward from geomagnetic latitudes over 50° were found to host the most robust electron precipitation regardless of the quiet or active conditions, and in the equatorward regions below 30°, flux enhancements were mainly observed during storm time and only occasionally in quiet time. The nightside ionosphere also showed remarkable temporal variability along with the storm evolution process but with relatively weaker wave activities and similar level of fluxes enhancement compared to the ones in the dayside ionosphere. The ELF/VLF whistler-mode waves recorded by the CSES mainly included structure-less VLF waves, structured VLF quasi-periodic emissions, and structure-less ELF hiss waves. A wave vector analysis showed that during storm time, these ELF/VLF whistler-mode waves obliquely propagated, mostly likely from the radiation belt toward the Earth direction. We suggest that energetic electrons in the high latitude ionosphere are most likely transported from the outer radiation belt as a consequence of their interactions with ELF/VLF waves.

For gas reservoirs with strong bottom or edge aquifer support, the most important thing is avoiding aquifer breakthrough in a gas well. Water production in gas wells does not only result in processing problems in surface facilities, but it also explicitly reduces well productivity and reservoir recovery. There are a lot of studies on the prediction of water breakthrough time, but they are not completely practicable due to reservoir heterogeneity. This paper provides a new method together with three diagnostic curves to identify aquifer influx status for single gas wells; the aforementioned curves are based on well production and pressure data. The whole production period of a gas well can be classified into three periods based on the diagnostic curves: no aquifer influx period, early aquifer influx period, and middle-late aquifer influx period. This new method has been used for actual gas well analysis to accurately identify gas well aquifer influx status and the water breakthrough sequence of all wells in the same gas field. Additionally, the evaluation results are significantly beneficial for well production rate optimization and development of an effective gas field.

To evaluate the effect of stratified water injection accurately during different development stages, a Lorenz-curve model was constructed upon a modified four-parameter Sarabia-Lorenz-curve model with water injectivity test data over years, and the relationship between accumulative perforated sandstone thickness and injected water volume of single wells was described by the model. Three evaluation indexes, dimensionless water injectivity intensity, vertical sweep efficiency and water-injection non-balanced degree, and their calculation were presented. Dimensionless water injectivity intensity is used to evaluate the distribution and balanced degree of water injectivity intensity, vertical sweep efficiency is the proportion of oil layers that produce oil, and water-injection non-balanced degree illustrates the overall water-injection balanced condition, then the model is solved by particle swarm optimization algorithm. Thirty-eight stratified water injection wells were evaluated in the Daqing Xingshugang oilfield. And the factors influencing the effect of water injection in single wells were studied considering segments construction, water allocation projects and reservoir physical properties. Finally, technological limits of stratified water injection were proposed under extreme high water-cut and recovery. The cement-based grouting materials used for practical purposes in high-geothermal tunnels are inevitably affected by humidity and high temperature, leading to the deterioration of mechanical properties. Based on the characteristics of changing high temperatures and two typical conditions of hot-humid and hot-dry environments in high-geothermal tunnels, many mechanical strength tests were carried out on the grouting material cured under different environmental conditions. The study results indicated that high temperature and low relative humidity were unfavorable to the development of mechanical characteristics of grouting material, but the coupling effect of two factors could improve the strength at early ages and reduce the degradation of long-term strength. As the curing temperature exceeded 56.3 °C, the humidity effect on strength played a more important role in recovering the strength of grouting material damaged by high temperature. Temperature had more significant impact on the relative peak stress while the relative humidity had greater influence on the relative peak strain. A calculation compressive constitutive model was prospered, which considering both temperature and relative humidity. The study results may provide much valuable experimental data and theoretical supporting for the design of compression constitutive of cement-based grouting material in high-geothermal tunnel.

The temperature distribution is one of the most vital parameters which should be fully considered in high geothermal tunnel design. For the purpose of studying the impact of temperature disturbance caused by construction on temperature distribution of surrounding rock and lining structure in a high geothermal tunnel, a new finite difference model for temperature prediction was proposed. Based on the abundant field test results, forecast analysis for the research of a high geothermal tunnel in this paper is made. The results indicate that the temperature of the surrounding rock near the tunnel sidewall decreases obviously in the first 14 days while that of the surrounding rock far away is stable after tunnel excavation, and the rock temperature showed three ways of change: undulate type (5 m). There is a linear relationship between the initial rock temperature and the released heat of the surrounding rock. The radius of the heat-adjusting layer and the initial rock temperature presents a quadratic function relation. The lining concrete actually cures under the variable high-temperature environment and the real curing temperature decreases with time and becomes stable seven days later. The results would contribute to providing support for high geothermal tunnel research and design.

Research on the depositional model of a braided delta in Kunbei oilfield, Qaidam Basin, was conducted with a fine geologic study in a dense well network area by combining sedimentary physical simulation to obtain statistical characteristic parameters and allocation relations of plane sedimentary facies units. On this basis, training images in different sedimentary regions of the braided delta were developed for reservoir modeling. In each sub-region, sequential conditional simulation in adjacent regions used different training images with angle revolving and scaling. This simulation succeeded in finely modeling the sedimentary microfacies of the braided delta. This method relaxed the requirement for a stationary training image in multipoint simulation and improved channel continuity as well as portability of the training image. In the fine reservoir description of the Kunbei oilfield, the model results were consistent with practical production and have the potential to guide effective water-flooding development. Effective application demonstrated the feasibility and practicability of the method. This paper presents a new method for accurately characterizing the braided delta using stochastic simulation. To quantitatively evaluate the complexities and heterogeneities of pore structures in sandstone reservoirs, we apply single fractal theory and multifractal theory to explore the fractal characteristics of pore size distributions based on mercury intrusion porosimetry. The fractal parameters were calculated and the relationships between the petrophysical parameters (permeability and entry pressure) and the fractal parameters were investigated. The results show that the single fractal curves exhibit two-stage characteristics and the corresponding fractal dimensions D1 and D2 can characterize the complexity of pore structure in different sizes. Favorable linear relationships between log(ε) and log(μ,(ε)) indicate that the samples satisfy multifractal characteristics and ε is the sub-intervals with size ε = J × 2−k. The multifractal singularity curves used in this study exhibit a right shape, indicating that the heterogeneity of the reservoir is mainly affected by pore size distributions in sparse regions. Multifractal parameters, D(0), D(1), and Δf, are positively correlated with permeability and entry pressure, while D(0), D(1), and Δf are negatively correlated with permeability and entry pressure. The ratio of larger pores volumes to total pore volumes acts as a control on the fractal dimension over a specific pore size range, while the range of the pore size distribution has a definite impact on the multifractal parameters. Results indicate that fractal analysis and multifractal analysis are feasible methods for characterizing the heterogeneity of pore structures in a reservoir. However, the single fractal models ignore the influence of microfractures, which could result in abnormal values for calculated fractal dimension. Compared to single fractal analysis, multifractal theory can better quantitatively characterize the heterogeneity of pore structure and establish favorable relationships with reservoir physical property parameters.

China’s urban rail transit (URT) construction is coming into the stage of rapid development under the guidance of national policies. However, the URT construction projects belong to high-risk projects and construction safety accidents occur frequently. Presently, safety risk management is in continuous development. Unfortunately, due to risk data deficiencies and lack of relationship between participants and safety risk factors, most of the research results cannot be well applied to URT projects. To overcome the limits, this paper has applied the text mining method into safety risk analysis. Through word frequency analysis and cluster analysis, 15 safety risk factors and 3 participants are identified from 156 accident reports. In addition, the accident descriptive model has been established, which is composed of indirect safety risk factors (management defects), direct safety risk factors and participants. In this model, each accident is the standardized description of the corresponding accident information. This is useful for risk data accumulation and analysis. Then the network structure analysis and risk assessment methods are utilized to make clear 63 relationships among participants, management defects and direct safety risk factors. Subsequently, the risk value of each relationship is evaluated. These safety risk information is integrated into the accident descriptive model by using accident points. Finally, ABC analysis which is a popular and effective method used to classify items into specific categories that can be managed and controlled separately is used to analyze the safety risk management’s core process(A), important process(B) and general process(C) in the accident descriptive model. The research results show that the constructor should pay attention to construction coordination, safety specifications, safety measures and personnel education, the supervisor should attach importance to timely communication, the monitoring unit should pay attention to advanced forecast and dynamic control. The main research contributions are as follows: (1) A method of obtaining risk data from unstructured content has been provided; (2) The accident descriptive model could be utilized for risk data continuous accumulation; (3) The emphases of URT construction safety risk management are made clear.
