Background We aimed to examine the relationship between serum FGF20 (fibroblast growth factor 20) levels and stroke prognosis in a multicenter cohort study. Methods and Results Patients with ischemic stroke/transient ischemic attack were prospectively recruited from 5 participating centers and followed up at 3 months and 1 year. FGF20 levels were measured using the ELISA method. The primary outcome was poor stroke functional outcome (modified Rankin Scale score of 3–6), and secondary outcomes included death and composite vascular events. Multivariable logistic regression analysis or Cox proportional hazards regression analysis was employed to estimate the relationship between FGF20 and study outcomes. Mediation analysis was conducted to examine the mediating effects of traditional risk factors on the association between FGF20 and stroke outcomes. A total of 1011 patients with ischemic stroke were included in the study. After adjusting for potential confounding factors, an elevated serum FGF20 level was associated with a reduced risk of the poor outcome and death. Multivariable adjusted spline regression analysis demonstrated a linear correlation between serum FGF20 levels and the stroke outcomes. The incorporation of FGF20 alongside conventional risk factors marginally enhanced the reclassification of adverse outcomes. Renal function and white blood cell count partially mediated the relationship between FGF20 and the prognosis of ischemic stroke. Conclusions Elevated FGF20 level is associated with decreased risks of adverse outcomes after ischemic stroke, which was partially mediated by renal function and white blood cells with a modest amount, indicating that serum FGF20 might serve as a promising biomarker for predicting stroke prognosis. Abstract Background The diffusion tensor imaging analysis along the perivascular space (DTI-ALPS) method has been used to evaluate glymphatic system function in patients with migraine. However, since the diffusion tensor model cannot accurately describe the diffusion coefficient of the nerve fibre crossing region, we proposed a diffusion kurtosis imaging ALPS (DKI-ALPS) method to evaluate glymphatic system function in patients with migraine. Methods The study included 29 healthy controls and 37 patients with migraine. We used diffusion imaging data from a 3T MRI scanner to calculate DTI-ALPS and DKI-ALPS indices of the two groups. We compared the DTI-ALPS and DKI-ALPS indices between the two groups using a two-sample t-test and performed correlation analyses with clinical variables. Results There was no significant difference in DTI-ALPS index between the two groups. Patients with migraine showed a significantly increased right DKI-ALPS index compared to healthy controls (1.6858 vs. 1.5729; p = 0.0301). There was no significant correlation between ALPS indices and clinical variables. Conclusions DKI-ALPS is a potential method to assess glymphatic system function and patients with migraine do not have impaired glymphatic system function.

Abstract Stipes are the major waste from the processing of Lentinus edodes. To make full use of L. edodes stipes (LES), different fractions of LES polysaccharides (LESPs) were first obtained by water extraction and gradient ethanol precipitation. Afterwards, the LES residues were treated with an optimal combination of Aspergillus niger and Saccharomyces cerevisiae for the preparation of soluble/insoluble dietary fibers (LESS/LESI) using the response surface methodology and the Box-Behnken design. Subsequently, the in vitro immunomodulatory activity of LESPs and LESS, as well as the adsorption capacities of LESI were evaluated. The results showed that LESPs were neutral polysaccharides, mainly containing glucose. The optimal parameters for modifying the residues of LES were the followings: 4% (w/w) A. niger, 8% (w/w) S. cerevisiae, 31 ℃, 3 d, and a solid–liquid ratio of 1:12.5 in a yield of 14.73%/82.45% of LESS/LESI, respectively. The in vitro immunomodulatory activity assays revealed that LESPs and LESS had potent immunostimulatory activity to increase phagocytosis, acid phosphatase activity and nitric oxide production of RAW264.7 murine cell macrophages. The evaluation of adsorption capacities revealed that LESI owned stronger water holding capacity, oil holding capacity and water swelling capacity. This research could provide an effective way to fully utilize discarded L. edodes stipes with high added-value. Graphical Abstract An effective strategy was built to fully utilize discarded L. edodes stipes by preparing polysaccharides (LESPs-20, LESPs-50 and LESPs-80), soluble and insoluble dietary fibers (LESS/LESI). Their products showed immunomodulatory activity and adsorption capacities.

BackgroundThe anterior cingulate gyrus (ACG) is an important regulatory region for pain-related information. However, the ACG is composed of subregions with different functions. The mechanisms underlying the brain networks of different subregions of the ACG in patients with migraine without aura (MwoA) are currently unclear.MethodsIn the current study, resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rsfMRI) and functional connectivity (FC) were used to investigate the functional characteristics of ACG subregions in MwoA patients. The study included 17 healthy volunteers and 28 MwoA patients. The FC calculation was based on rsfMRI data from a 3 T MRI scanner. The brain networks of the ACG subregions were compared using a general linear model to see if there were any differences between the two groups. Spearman correlation analysis was used to examine the correlation between FC values in abnormal brain regions and clinical variables.ResultsCompared with healthy subjects, MwoA patients showed decreased FC between left subgenual ACG and left middle cingulate gyrus and right middle temporal gyrus. Meanwhile, MwoA patients also showed increased FC between pregenual ACG and right angular gyrus and increased FC between right pregenual ACG and right superior occipital gyrus. The FC values between pregenual ACG and right superior occipital gyrus were significantly positively correlated with the visual analogue scale.ConclusionDisturbances of FC between ACG subregions and default model network and visual cortex may play a key role in neuropathological features, perception and affection of MwoA. The current study provides further insights into the complex scenario of MwoA mechanisms.

The effects of different concentrations of ε-Poly-lysine (ε-PL: 0.005%, 0.01%, 0.02%, 0.04%, and 0.06%) on the marine fish-egg white protein compound gels, treated with 0.4% TGase induced cross-linking were systematically investigated under low salt and phosphorus-free conditions (0.5% NaCl). The results showed the combination of ε-PL and TGase had a synergistic effect on improving sectional gel properties of composite surimi samples. Wherein the rheological, LF-NMR, and SEM results confirmed that the addition of ε-PL based on 0.4% TGase significantly improved the gel strength (to the highest value: 781.63 g·cm), apparent viscosity, and G 'value of the composite surimi sample, as well as reduced the internal water fluidity of surimi, accompanied by the emergence of a more dense and uniform gel network structure. Notably, ε-PL treatment significantly inhibited fat oxidation in the compound surimi gel and the degree of inhibition was proportional to its addition (decreased from 2.03 to 1.67 mg·kg−1). However, the addition of a small amount (0.005%) or an excessive amount (0.06%) of ε-PL on the gel properties of composite surimi samples witnessed the negative effects of the changes in the internal water distribution state and the cooking loss. To sum up, moderate ε-PL (0.04%) treatment combined with TGase induction can maximize the performance of mixed surimi gel and inhibit fat oxidation. The research results supply a diverse perspective and theoretical basis for the development of 'low salt and no phosphorus' surimi product ingredients.

Plant essential oil is a class of natural bacteriostatic agents that could effectively inhibit numerous meat spoilage and pathogenic bacteria, which has broad application prospects in the meat industry. As a nanoscale embedding system, nanoemulsion is efficient in improving the water solubility, stability and antibacterial activity of essential oil, and has become a research hotspot in the field of meat preservation. In this review, the construction methods (emulsification methods and emulsifiers), basic characteristics (stability and bioavailability) of plant essential oil nanoemulsion are introduced. The antibacterial activity and influencing factors (essential oil types, emulsification methods, emulsifiers, emulsion particle size and microbial species) of plant essential oil nanoemulsion were discussed. And the internal mechanism of plant essential oil nanoemulsion improving the antibacterial activity of pure essential oils through targeted binding, sustained release, and passive transportation were explored. The review may provide a theoretical reference for the further research, development and utilization of plant essential oil nanoemulsions in meat preservation field.

The effect of different content of lysine (Lys, 0.1%, 0.2%, 0.3%, 0.4%, 0.5%, m/m) on the texture characteristics and water holding capacity (WHC) of transglutaminase (0.4%)-induced mixed surimi gels was explored. The results showed that 0.2% Lys obviously improved the gel strength, textural properties, and WHC of the mixed surimi gels (P < 0.05). However, superfluous Lys (0.4%–0.5%) played a significant negative impact. That’s because 0.2% Lys facilitated the non-covalent interactions and non-disulfide covalent interactions between surimi proteins, promoted the formation of a fine and dense gel microstructure. While high content of Lys induced the formation of excess ε-(γ-Glu)-Lys isopeptide bonds but weakened the non-covalent interactions between surimi proteins, resulting in an irregular and heterogeneous microstructure with large voids. In conclusion, moderate Lys can effectively improve the quality of mixed surimi gels, thereby providing a new and effective strategy to develop phosphorus-free surimi products.

Background: Protection against ischemic stroke may be most effective when multiple components of the neurovascular unit are protected, yet current treatments target mainly neurons. Here we explored whether the PSD-95 inhibitor Tat-NR2B9c (NA-1) can protect not only neurons but also the blood-brain barrier. Methods: Adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into three groups, which were subjected to either sham surgery or transient cerebral ischemia-reperfusion, after which some animals were treated with Tat-NR2B9c. The therapeutic efficacy of Tat-NR2B9c was assessed in terms of the degree of neurological deficit and cerebral infarction, integrity of the blood-brain barrier, cerebral water content, as well as expression of PSD-95, nitric oxide synthase, and matrix metalloprotease-9. Results: Tat-NR2B9c (NA-1) ameliorated neurofunctional deficit, reduced cerebral infarction, mitigated blood-brain barrier injury and improved its integrity following ischemia-reperfusion, leading to less cerebral edema. These improvements were associated with upregulation of tight junction proteins in the blood-brain barrier. At the same time, Tat-NR2B9c (NA-1) downregulated neuronal nitric oxide synthase and matrix metalloprotease-9, while reversing the ischemia-induced downregulation of endothelial nitric oxide synthase in brain. We report here the first evidence that PSD-95 is expressed in vascular endothelial cells in the brain. Conclusion: Our experiments in a rat model of transient occlusion of the middle cerebral artery suggest that Tat-NR2B9c (NA-1) can mitigate ischemic injury to the blood-brain barrier, and that it may do so by downregulating matrix metalloprotease-9 and upregulating endothelial nitric oxide synthase.

Edge optimization of semantic segmentation results is a challenging issue in remote sensing image processing. This article proposes a semantic segmentation model guided by a block-in-block edge detection network named BIBED-Seg. This is a two-stage semantic segmentation model, where edges are extracted first and then segmented. We do two key works: The first work is edge detection, and we present BIBED, a block-in-block edge detection network, to extract the accurate boundary features. Here, the edge detection of multiscale feature fusion is first realized by creating the block-in-block residual network structure and devising the multilevel loss function. Second, we add the channel and spatial attention module into the residual structure to improve high-resolution remote sensing images' boundary positioning and detection accuracy by focusing on their channel and spatial dimensions. Finally, we evaluate our method on International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) Potsdam and Vaihingen data sets and obtain ODS F-measure of 0.6671 and 0.7432, higher than other excellent edge detection methods. The second work is two-stage segmentation. First, the proposed BIBED is individually pretrained, and subsequently, the pretrained model is introduced into the entire segmentation network to extract boundary features. In the second segmentation stage, the edge detection network is used to constrain semantic segmentation results by loss cycles and feature bootstrapping. Our best model obtains the OA of 90.2%, 87.7%, and 81.5%, the IOU of 76.0%, 69.6%, and 61.3% on the ISPRS and WHDLD datasets, respectively.

Purpose: White matter hyperintensity (WMH) is suggested to cause stroke and dementia in older adults. Retinal structural thicknesses revealed by optical coherence tomography (OCT) are associated with structural changes in the brain. We aimed to explore the association between the peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) and cerebral microstructural changes in participants with white matter hyperintensities (WMH). Methods: Seventy-four participants (37 controls, healthy control (HC), and 37 older adults with WMH) underwent retinal and brain imaging using OCT and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) respectively. Peripapillary RNFL thickness was assessed by the OCT. Gray matter volume (GMV) was assessed from a T1-weighted MRI. White matter integrity was assessed with diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) while WMH severity was assessed with the Fazekas scale. All participants underwent a neuropsychological examination (Mini-Mental State Examination, MMSE). Results: Older adults with WMH showed thinner peripapillary RNFL (p = 0.004) thickness when compared with the control group after adjusting for age, hypertension and gender. In our older adults with WMH, RNFL thickness correlated with fractional anisotropy (FA) in the superior longitudinal fasciculus (SLF) (Rho = –0.331, p < 0.001). In older adults with WMH, RNFL was significantly associated with MMSE scores (Rho = 0.422, p < 0.001) and Fazekas scores (Rho = –0.381, p = 0.022) respectively. Conclusions: We suggest neurodegeneration of peripapillary RNFL in older adults with WMH was associated with cerebral microstructural volume, impaired cerebral axonal damage, and cognitive performances. OCT metrics may provide evidence of neurodegeneration that may underpin WMH and cerebral microstructural changes in the brain. In order to improve the comprehensive utilization rate of walnut, the technology of synchronous producing oil and polypeptide from walnut by aqueous enzymatic method was optimized, and the fatty acid composition of the oil was analyzed. By comparing the effects of four different proteases and cellulase on oil extraction rate and polypeptide yield of walnut, the optimal enzyme combination was then determined. On this basis, the effects of pH, enzymolysis temperature, enzymolysis time, solid-liquid ratio and dosage of enzyme on the oil extraction rate and the yield of polypeptide from walnut were studied by single factor and L18(35) orthogonal experiment, and the optimal extraction conditions were finally obtained. The fatty acid composition of walnut oil was analyzed by gas chromatography. The results showed that the combination of papain and cellulase (2:1, w/w) was the best enzyme combination. The optimal synchronous extraction process of oil and polypeptide were as follows: Dosage of enzyme 3.0%, solid-liquid ratio 1:5 (g/mL), pH5, enzymolysis time 3.0 h, enzymolysis temperature 60 ℃. Under these conditions, the oil extraction rate of walnut could reach 53.37%, and the yield of polypeptide was 4.01 mg/g. The determination results of gas chromatography indicated that five fatty acids were detected in walnut oil, including linoleic acid (62.26%), oleic acid (18.64%), α-linolenic acid (10.57%), palmitic acid (6.00%), stearic acid (2.53%). Walnut oil was rich in unsaturated fatty acids. The total content of unsaturated fatty acids in walnut oil was up to 91.47%, in which the contents of polyunsaturated fatty acids and monounsaturated fat acids were 72.83% and 18.64%, respectively. The process could provide reference for the industrial application of synchronous producing oil and polypeptide from walnut by aqueous enzymatic method.

Protein can not only provide essential nutrition for human beings, but also have good processing properties and applications. Protein-based nanofibers are widely used in nutrition delivery, air filters, biomedicine, tissue engineering and other fields due to their high specific surface area. Electrospinning, as a simple, effective and low-cost method for the preparation of nanofibers, provides technical support for the further application of protein-based nanofibers. This paper reviews the preparation process, the fabrication conditions (flow rate, voltage, receiving distance, etc.) on fiber morphology, and the application of electrospun protein-based nanofibers (food industry, drug delivery, tissue engineering, air filtration). Finally, the potential research directions of protein-based nanofibers are prospected in order to provide reference for the controllable construction of electrospun protein-based nanofibers, the improvement of functional properties, and the industrial research and application of electrospinning.

BackgroundHemorrhagic transformation (HT) is common among acute ischemic stroke patients after treatment with intravenous thrombolysis (IVT). We analyzed potential relationships between markers of cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) and HT in patients after IVT.MethodsThis study retrospectively analyzed computed tomography (CT) data for acute ischemic stroke patients before and after treatment with recombinant tissue plasminogen activator at a large Chinese hospital between July 2014 and June 2021. Total CSVD score were summed by individual CSVD markers including leukoaraiosis, brain atrophy and lacune. Binary regression analysis was used to explore whether CSVD markers were related to HT as the primary outcome or to symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (sICH) as a secondary outcome.ResultsA total of 397 AIS patients treated with IVT were screened for inclusion in this study. Patients with missing laboratory data (n = 37) and patients treated with endovascular therapy (n = 42) were excluded. Of the 318 patients included, 54 (17.0%) developed HT within 24–36 h of IVT, and 14 (4.3%) developed sICH. HT risk was independently associated with severe brain atrophy (OR 3.14, 95%CI 1.43–6.92, P = 0.004) and severe leukoaraiosis (OR 2.41, 95%CI 1.05–5.50, P = 0.036), but not to severe lacune level (OR 0.58, 95%CI 0.23–1.45, P = 0.250). Patients with a total CSVD burden ≥1 were at higher risk of HT (OR 2.87, 95%CI 1.38–5.94, P = 0.005). However, occurrence of sICH was not predicted by CSVD markers or total CSVD burden.ConclusionIn patients with acute ischemic stroke, severe leukoaraiosis, brain atrophy and total CSVD burden may be risk factors for HT after IVT. These findings may help improve efforts to mitigate or even prevent HT in vulnerable patients.

BackgroundIn patients with acute ischemic stroke, hemorrhagic transformation (HT) is a common complication after intravenous thrombolysis (IVT). In this study, we evaluated the relationship between the ratio of C-reactive protein to albumin (CAR) before thrombolysis, HT, and functional outcomes in patients with acute ischemic stroke.MethodsWe retrospectively analyzed data from 354 patients who received thrombolytic therapy at the Second Affiliated Hospital of the Wenzhou Medical University in China between July 2014 and May 2022. CAR was measured on admission, and HT was identified by cranial computed tomography (CT) within 24–36 h after treatment. Poor outcome was defined as a score on the modified Rankin Scale (mRS) > 2 at discharge. The multivariate logistic regression model was used to investigate the association between CAR, HT, and poor outcome after thrombolysis, respectively.ResultsA total of 354 patients were analyzed, and their median CAR was 0.61 (interquartile range, 0.24–1.28). Deep learning shows a strong ability in target detection, scene classification, and change detection of remote sensing. However, the training process requires a large number of samples, and the production of most high-quality training samples requires a lot of time and human resources. With the resolution of remote sensing image gradually improved, and the scene information becoming more and more complicated, the sample augmentation methods at this stage have shown obvious defects, such as the loss of sample key information and the lack of diversity in augmented data sets. In order to solve these problems, this article proposes a new augmentation method for remote sensing scene data named Rel-SAGAN based on generative adversarial networks (GAN). First, combined with self-attention mechanism to improve the large-scale feature learning ability and reduce the calculation parameters of GAN. Second, using relativity adversarial loss function to improve the structural stability of GAN. Furthermore, increasing convolution kernel and deeper structural of GAN to improve the ability of global feature extraction and saving the training time. Finally, taking NWPU remote sensing image dataset as experimental data, the effectiveness of the method proposed in this article is verified through ResNet-18. The experimental results show that it can generate more diverse high-resolution remote sensing natural scene images, the overall classification accuracy of augmented training dataset of remote sensing used high-quality generated images selected based on inception score and Frechet inception distance evaluations is improved by more than 3% and the classification accuracy is generally higher than the traditional data augmentation methods.

Food-borne methicillin-resistance Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) has caused significant health threats and economic loss in livestock and poultry products. Garlic essential oil (GEO) is an effective antibacterial agent but presents strong instability and hydrophobicity. In this study, GEO in water nanoemulsion (GEON) with good stability was produced by emulsification technique of high-power ultrasound. Its antibacterial activity and underlying mechanism against MRSA isolated from retailed pork were investigated. Results showed that ultrasonic treatment significantly reduced the particle size of GENO from 820.3 to 215.0 nm as time increased from 0 to 10 min. Comparatively, GEON of 10 min ultrasound was more stable than other GEONs (0, 1, 5 min) during 30 d storage. It also displayed good thermal stability and relatively good ion stability (NaCl, MgCl2, and glucose). Antibacterial analysis showed that GEON (10 min) exhibited the best anti-MRSA activity among all GEONs, and the minimum inhibitory concentration of GEO in this nanoemulsion was 0.125 % (1.25 mg/mL). Treatment of GEON (10 min) significantly suppressed the cell proliferation of MRSA, which was mainly achieved by damaging the cell membrane as evidenced by membrane depolarization and considerable leakage of intracellular nucleic acids and protein. Laser scanning confocal microscope and scanning electron microscopy showed that treatment of GEON (10 min) significantly altered the membrane integrity and severely damaged the cellular membrane and structure. The present work illustrated that GEON produced by ultrasonic emulsification is a promising alternative to inhibit the contamination and spread of MRSA in livestock and poultry products.

BackgroundHemorrhagic transformation (HT) is a frequent, serious complication in acute ischemic stroke patients on intravenous thrombolysis. Here we investigated whether risk of HT is associated with the ratio of monocyte count to high-density lipoprotein level (MHR).Materials and methodsMedical records were retrospectively examined for consecutive patients with acute ischemic stroke who received thrombolytic therapy. HT was diagnosed by computed tomography at 24–36 h after therapy. Potential association between MHR and HT was examined using logistic regression.ResultsA total of 340 patients were analyzed, and their median MHR was 0.44 (0.31–0.59). MHR was higher in the 51 patients (15.0%) with HT than in those who did not suffer HT (0.53 vs. 0.42, P = 0.001). Multivariate logistic regression showed that, after adjusting for potential confounders, MHR was an independent risk factor for HT (OR 7.50, 95% CI 1.64 to 34.35, P = 0.009). Risk of HT was significantly higher among patients whose MHR fell in the third quartile (0.42–0.53) and the fourth quartile (> 0.53) than among those with MHR in the first quartile (< 0.31; OR 3.53, 95% CI 1.11 to 11.20, P = 0.032; OR 4.79, 95% CI 1.49 to 15.42, P = 0.009).ConclusionHigh MHR may be independently associated with higher risk of HT in patients with acute ischemic stroke on intravenous thrombolysis.

The effects of inulin (1.5%), glutathione (GSH, 0.05%), and their combination (1.5% inulin + 0.05% GSH) on the conformational structure and gel performance of pork myofibrillar protein (MP) under oxidation condition were examined. The addition of GSH significantly prevented oxidation-induced carbonylation, reduction of α-helix content, and protein aggregation. As a result, treatment with GSH significantly reduced the particle size of oxidized MP by 35%, increased the solubility by 17.3%, and improved the gelling properties. The presence of inulin also obviously enhanced the gelling behavior of MP under oxidation condition, although it could hardly inhibit the modification of MP structure caused by oxidation. Treatment with inulin + GSH exhibited the highest cooking yield (84.2%) and the best textural characteristics, with a denser and more uniform network structure comprising evenly distributed small pores. The findings of this study provide a useful method for processing meat protein gel products with better oxidative stability and textural properties.

Stroke is a chief cause of sudden brain damage that severely disrupts the whole-brain network. However, the potential mechanisms of motor recovery after stroke are uncertain and the prognosis of poststroke upper extremity recovery is still a challenge. This study investigated the global and local topological properties of the brain functional connectome in patients with subacute ischemic stroke and their associations with the clinical measurements. A total of 57 patients, consisting of 29 left-sided and 28 right-sided stroke patients, and 32 age- and gender-matched healthy controls (HCs) were recruited to undergo a resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) study; patients were also clinically evaluated with the Upper Extremity Fugl-Meyer Assessment (FMA_UE). The assessment was repeated at 15 weeks to assess upper extremity functional recovery for the patient remaining in the study (12 left- 20 right-sided stroke patients). Global graph topological disruption indices of stroke patients were significantly decreased compared with HCs but these indices were not significantly associated with FMA_UE. In addition, local brain network structure of stroke patients was altered, and the altered regions were dependent on the stroke site. Significant associations between local degree and motor performance and its recovery were observed in the right lateral occipital cortex (R LOC) in the right-sided stroke patients. Our findings suggested that brain functional topologies alterations in R LOC are promising as prognostic biomarkers for right-sided subacute stroke. This cortical area might be a potential target to be further validated for non-invasive brain stimulation treatment to improve poststroke upper extremity recovery.

The automatic extraction of building outlines from high-resolution images is an important and challenging task. Convolutional neural networks have shown excellent results compared with traditional building extraction methods because of their ability to extract high-level abstract features from images. However, it is difficult to fully utilize the multiple features of current building extraction methods; consequently, the resulting building boundaries are irregular. To overcome these limitations, we propose a method for extracting buildings from high-resolution images using a multifeature convolutional neural network (MFCNN) and morphological filtering. Our method consists of two steps. First, the MFCNN, which consists of residual connected unit, dilated perception unit, and pyramid aggregation unit, is used to achieve pixel-level segmentation of the buildings. Second, morphological filtering is used to optimize the building boundaries, improve the boundary regularity, and obtain refined building boundaries. The Massachusetts and Inria datasets are selected for experimental analysis. Under the same experimental conditions, the extraction results achieved with the proposed MFCNN are compared with the results of other deep learning models that have been commonly used in recent years: FCN-8s, SegNet, and U-Net. The results on both datasets reveal that the proposed model improves the F1-score by 3.31%-5.99%, increases the overall accuracy (OA) by 1.85%-3.07%, and increases the intersection over union (IOU) by 3.47%-8.82%. These findings illustrate that the proposed method is effective at extracting buildings from complex scenes.

Since fire is one of the most serious types of accidents that can occur, there is always a need for improvement in fire detection capabilities. Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have been used for a variety of high-performance computer vision tasks. The use of CNNs to extract deep static features of fire has greatly improved the accuracy of fire detection. However, the implementation of CNNs in the real world is limited by their high computational cost. In addition, fire detection methods based on the classification of images alone using CNNs cannot account for the dynamic features of fire. Therefore, in this paper, a method that exploits both motion-flicker-based dynamic features and deep static features is proposed for video fire detection. First, dynamic features are extracted by analyzing the differences in motion and flicker features between fire and other objects in videos. Second, an adaptive lightweight convolutional neural network (AL-CNN) is proposed to extract the deep static features of fire. Finally, the dynamic and static features of fire are combined to establish a video fire detection method with improved operational efficiency in terms of accuracy and run time. To prove the validity of our method, its accuracy and run time are evaluated on three test datasets, and the results reveal that our method exhibits better performance than state-of-the-art methods. Moreover, our method is shown to be feasible in complex video scenarios and for devices with resource constraints.

To investigate the relationship of different subtypes of intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) to early disease evolution and long-term prognosis in patients with acute cerebral infarction after intravenous recombinant tissue plasminogen activator(r-tPA). Seventy ischemic stroke patients treated with intravenous r-tPA who underwent computed tomography (CT) within 24 hours after thrombolysis were divided into 4 types (hemorrhagic infarction type 1 [HI-1], HI-2, parenchymal hemorrhage type 1 [PH-1], or PH-2 which according to the size of the hematoma and the presence or absence of space-occupying effect). Early evolution of the disease was observed by the change in the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score within 24 hours after thrombolysis. The long-term prognosis was assessed by the modified Rankin Scale (mRS) score at the third month. There were 17 (24.3%) patients with ICH. Compared with patients in the non-ICH group, HI did not affect early neurological function or clinical outcome at the third month. PH-1 did not increase the risk of early neurological deterioration; however, PH-1 has a tendency to increase the risk of death at the third month (50% vs 11.3%, P = 0.090). PH-2 was significantly related to early neurological deterioration (66.7% vs 3.8%, P < 0.001) and mortality at the third month (50.0% vs 11.3%, P = 0.040). Patients with different subtypes of ICH after thrombolysis have different clinical outcomes. PH-2 is significantly associated with early neurological deterioration and increases mortality at the third month.

Objective: We retrospectively analyzed clinical characteristics, etiology, and mortality risk factors in pediatric cases of non-traumatic spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage.Methods: This study involved children between 29 days and 18 years old with confirmed spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage based on head CT or MRI at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University and Yuying Children's Hospital from January 2008 to March 2020. Demographic and clinical characteristics, etiology, imaging, and treatment data were collected at baseline. Potential risk factors of in-hospital death were identified using univariate analysis and multivariate logistic regression.Result: A total of 200 children (126 males, median age 5 years) were included in the study. Clinical symptoms of spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage were typically non-specific (79.5%). One third of patients (31.1%) had a Glasgow Coma Scale score (GCS) ≤ 8, and nearly two-thirds (60.5%) showed a combination of ventricular hemorrhage or subarachnoid hemorrhage. Supratentorial hemorrhage was more common. Cerebrovascular disease (37.0%) and hematological disease (33.5%) were the most frequent etiologies of spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage. Most patients (74.5%) received non-surgical treatment, while 25.5% received surgical treatment. After an average of 12 days of treatment, 167 children (83.5%) survived and 33 (16.5%) died. Multivariate logistic regression showed herniation syndrome, and low GCS (≤ 8) to be associated with increased risk of mortality, while hemorrhage due to arteriovenous malformation was associated with lower risk of mortality.Conclusion: Our data suggest that cerebrovascular disease is the most common cause of spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage among children, and that arteriovenous malformation is associated with lower risk of death in hospital. Conversely, the presence of herniation syndrome, low GCS (≤ 8) increase risk of in-hospital mortality. Our results underscore the importance of timely imaging and supplementary examinations in cases of suspected spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage.

Estimating the Start of Growing Season (SOS) of grassland on the global scale is an important scientific issue since it can reflect the response of the terrestrial ecosystem to environmental changes and determine the start time of grazing. However, most remote sensing data has coarse- temporal and spatial resolution, resulting in low accuracy of SOS retrieval based on remote sensing methods. In recent years, much research has focused on multi-source data fusion technology to improve the spatio-temporal resolution of remote sensing information, and to provide a feasible path for high-accuracy remote sensing inversion of SOS. Nevertheless, there is still a lack of quantitative evaluation for the accuracy of these data fusion methods in SOS estimation. Therefore, in this study, the SOS estimation accuracy is quantitatively evaluated based on the spatio-temporal fusion daily datasets through the Spatial and Temporal Adaptive Reflectance Fusion Model (STARFM) and other models in Xilinhot City, Inner Mongolia, China. The results show that: (1) the accuracy of SOS estimation based on spatio-temporal fusion daily datasets has been slightly improved, the average Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) of SOS based on 8d composite datasets is 11.1d, and the best is 9.7d (fstarfm8); (2) the estimation accuracy based on 8d composite datasets (RMSE¯ = 11.1d) is better than daily fusion datasets (RMSE¯ = 18.2d); (3) the lack of the Landsat data during the SOS would decrease the quality of the fusion datasets, which ultimately reduces the accuracy of the SOS estimation. The RMSE¯ of SOS based on all three models increases by 11.1d, and the STARFM is least affected, just increases 2.7d. The results highlight the potential of the spatio-temporal data fusion method in high-accuracy grassland SOS estimation. It also shows that the dataset fused by the STARFM algorithm and composed for 8 days is better for SOS estimation.

Purpose: This study aimed to assess the macula structure and capillaries in the macula and optic nerve head in recent small subcortical infarct (RSSI) patients.Methods: This observational cross-sectional study included 40 RSSI patients and 46 healthy controls. Optical coherence tomography angiography was used to image the capillaries in the macula and optic nerve head. An inbuilt algorithm was used to measure the densities in the microvasculature of the macula [superficial retinal capillary plexus (SRCP) and deep retinal capillary plexus (DRCP)] and optic nerve head [radial peripapillary capillary (RPC)] and thickness around the optic nerve head, peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (pRNFL).Results: Densities in RPC (P < 0.001), SRCP (P = 0.001), and DRCP (P = 0.003) were reduced in RSSI patients when compared with healthy controls. The pRNFL thickness was thinner (P < 0.001) in RSSI patients than healthy controls. In the RSSI group, the SRCP density significantly correlated with the DRCP density (rho = 0.381, P = 0.042). The pRNFL thickness displayed a significant relationship with the RPC density (rho = 0.482, P = 0.003) in the RSSI group.Conclusions: RSSI patients showed interrupted capillary plexuses leading to its significant impairment and neurodegeneration. Our report provides insight into the macula capillary microcirculation changes in RSSI.

To analyze the type, etiology, clinical features and prognosis of stroke in southern China diabetic patients. From January to August 2019, acute stroke patients were prospectively enrolled in the Wenzhou Stroke Registry within 7 days of admission to the Hospital. The differences between the 2 groups of stroke patients with or without diabetes were in the following aspects: bleeding site of hemorrhagic stroke, different ischemic stroke etiology, Oxfordshire Community Stroke Project (OCSP) classification, death and disability within 3 months. Of the 497 patients enrolled, 104 (20.9%) were diabetic patients. 114(22.9%) patients had hemorrhagic stroke. The incidence of hemorrhagic stroke in the diabetic group was 10.6%, deep hemorrhage stroke account for 90.9%.In patients with ischemic stroke, the proportions of the new Trial of Org 10172 in Acute Stroke Treatment (TOAST) etiological subtype classifications (atherothrombosis (AT), cardioembolism (CE), small artery disease (SAD), stroke of other determined etiology (SOD) and stroke of undetermined etiology (SUD)) in the diabetic (non-diabetic) group was 43% (31%), 7.5% (14.1%), 27.9% (16.9%), 1% (0.3%), and 20.4% (37.6%), respectively; the proportion of The OCSP classifications(total anterior circulation infarcts(TACI), partial anterior circulation infarcts(PACI), lacunar infarcts(LACI) and posterior circulation infarcts(POCI)) in the diabetic (non-diabetic) group was16.1% (22%), 30.1%(37.2%), 42% (31.4%), and 10.8% (9%), respectively. The 3-month poor prognosis of the diabetic and non-diabetic groups was 23.1% and 28.2%. For diabetic patients, the incidence of hemorrhagic stroke is low, deep hemorrhage is common; SAD and LACI are common in the ischemic stroke; There was no significant difference in the 3-month prognosis between the 2 groups.

Background: In patients with acute ischemic stroke, hemorrhagic transformation is a major complication after intravenous thrombolysis. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between serum magnesium levels and hemorrhagic transformation (HT) after thrombolytic therapy.Methods: We retrospectively analyzed data from 242 patients who received thrombolytic therapy at the Second Affiliated Hospital of the Wenzhou Medical University in China. Baseline serum magnesium levels were measured before intravenous thrombolysis, and the occurrence of HT was evaluated using computed tomography images reviewed within 24–36 h after therapy. The relationship between serum magnesium levels and HT was examined using multivariate logistic regression, subgroup analysis, and restricted cubic spline models.Results: Of the 242 included patients, 43 (17.8%) developed HT. Patients with HT had significant lower serum magnesium levels than those without HT (0.81 ± 0.08 vs. 0.85 ± 0.08 mmol/L, p = 0.007). Multivariable logistic regression analysis indicated that patients with higher serum magnesium levels had lower risk of HT (OR per 0.1-mmol/L increase 0.43, 95% CI 0.27–0.73, p = 0.002). However, this association did not persist when baseline levels of serum magnesium were higher than the median value (0.85 mmol/L) in subgroup analysis (OR per 0.1-mmol/L increase 0.58, 95% CI 0.14–2.51, p = 0.47). This threshold effect was also observed in the restricted cubic spline model when serum magnesium levels were above 0.88 mmol/L. No association between symptomatic HT and serum magnesium levels was observed in our study (OR per 0.1-mmol/L increase 0.52, 95% CI 0.25–1.11, p = 0.092).Conclusions: Lower serum magnesium levels in patients with ischemic stroke are associated with an increased risk of HT after intravenous thrombolysis, but perhaps only when serum magnesium is below a certain minimal concentration.

Recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rt-PA) is used to treat acute ischemic stroke but is only effective if administered within 4.5 h after stroke onset. Delayed rt-PA treatment causes blood-brain barrier (BBB) disruption and hemorrhagic transformation. The compound 2-(-2-benzofuranyl)-2-imidazoline (2-BFI), a newly discovered antagonist of high-affinity postsynaptic N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors, has been shown to have neuroprotective effects in ischemia. Here, we investigated whether combining 2-BFI and rt-PA can ameliorate BBB disruption and prolong the therapeutic window in a rat model of embolic middle cerebral artery occlusion (eMCAO). Ischemia was induced in male Sprague Dawley rats by eMCAO, after which they were treated with 2-BFI (3 mg/kg) at 0.5 h in combination with rt-PA (10 mg/kg) at 6 or 8 h. Control rats were treated with saline or 2-BFI or rt-PA. Combined therapy with 2-BFI and rt-PA (6 h) reduced the infarct volume, denatured cell index, BBB permeability, and brain edema. This was associated with increased expression of aquaporin 4 (AQP4) and tight junction proteins (occludin and ZO-1) and downregulation of intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM-1) and matrix metalloproteinases 2 and 9 (MMP2 and MMP9). We conclude that 2-BFI protects the BBB from damage caused by delayed rt-PA treatment in ischemia. 2-BFI may therefore extend the therapeutic window up to 6 h after stroke onset in rats and may be a promising therapeutic strategy for humans. However, mechanisms to explain the effects oberved in the present study are not yet elucidated.

Purpose: This study aimed to characterize the microvascular and structural changes in the macular that occur in white matter hyperintensities (WMH) using optical coherence tomographic angiography. We also aimed to explore the association between macular microvascular and structural changes with focal markers of brain tissue on MRI in WMH using the Fazekas scale.Methods: This study enrolled healthy participants who were stroke- and dementia-free. MRI was used to image the cerebral white matter lesions, and Fazekas scale was used to evaluate the severity of the white matter lesions. Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCT-A) was used to image the radial peripapillary capillaries (RPCs), macular capillary plexuses [superficial capillary plexus (SCP) and deep capillary plexus (DCP)] and thickness around the optic nerve head, peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (pRNFL).Results: Seventy-four participants were enrolled and divided into two groups according to their Fazekas score (Fazekas scores ≤ 1 and ≥2). Participants with Fazekas score ≥2 showed significantly reduced RPC density (P = 0.02) and DCP density (P = 0.012) when compared with participants with Fazekas score ≤ 1. Participants with Fazekas score ≥2 showed reduced pRNFL (P = 0.004) when compared to participants with Fazekas score ≤ 1. Fazekas scores were significantly associated with the pRNFL thickness (Rho = −0.389, P = 0.001), RPC density (Rho = −0.248, P = 0.035), and DCP density (Rho = −0.283, P = 0.015), respectively.Conclusions: Microvascular impairment and neuro-axonal damage are associated with the disease cascade in WMH. We have shown that RPC and DCP densities are significantly affected, and these impairments are associated with the severity of the disease and cognitive function. OCT-A could be a useful tool in quantifying the retinal capillary densities in WMH.

Acute ischemic stroke is a serious disease that endangers human health. In our efforts to develop an effective therapy, we previously showed that the potent, highly selective inhibitor of soluble epoxide hydrolase called 1-trifuoromethoxyphenyl-3-(1-propionylpiperidin-4-yl) urea (TPPU) protects the brain against focal ischemia in rats. Here we explored the mechanism of TPPU action by assessing whether it could preserve blood-brain barrier integrity and reduce apoptosis in the brain during permanent middle cerebral artery occlusion in male Sprague-Dawley rats. TPPU administration at the onset of stroke and once daily thereafter led to smaller infarct volume and brain edema as well as milder neurological deficits. TPPU significantly inhibited the activity of soluble epoxide hydrolase and matrix metalloproteases 2 and 9, reducing 14,15-DHET levels, while increasing expression of tight junction proteins. TPPU decreased numbers of apoptotic cells by down-regulating the pro-apoptotic proteins BAX and Caspase-3, while up-regulating the anti-apoptotic protein BCL-2. Our results suggest that TPPU can protect the blood-brain barrier and reduce the apoptosis of brain tissue caused by ischemia.

With the gradual emergence of the separation and dislocation of urban jobs-housing space, rational planning of urban jobs-housing space has become the core issue of national land-spatial planning. To study the existing relationship between workspaces and living spaces, a new method to identify jobs-housing space is proposed, which not only considers the static spatial distribution of urban public facilities but also identifies the jobs-housing space by analyzing the real mobility characteristics of people from a humanistic perspective. This method provides a new framework for the identification of urban jobs-housing space by integrating point-of-interest (POI) and trajectory data. The method involves three steps: Firstly, based on the trajectory data, we analyze the characteristics of the dynamic flow of passengers in the grid and construct the living factors and working factors to identify the distribution of jobs-housing space. Secondly, we reclassify the POIs to calculate the category ratios of different types of POIs in the grid to identify the jobs-housing space. Finally, an OR operation is performed on the results obtained by the two methods to obtain the final recognition result. We selected Haikou City as the experimental area to verify the method proposed in this paper. The experimental results show that the recognition accuracy of the travel flow model is 72.43%, the POI quantitative recognition method’s accuracy is 74.94%, and the accuracy of the method proposed in this paper is 85.90%, which is significantly higher than the accuracy of the previous two methods. Therefore, the method proposed here can serve as a reference for subsequent research on urban jobs-housing space.

Evaluating the deterioration of ecological environment and vegetation of coalfields caused by China’s large-scale coal mining activities is important because of the fragile ecological environment and low temperature in cold and arid areas. This study takes the open coal pits of Haizhou, Gulianhe, and Huolinhe as examples and proposes a method for evaluating their ecological environment using Landsat time series images based on the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) variations of open-pit coalfields in cold and arid zones. The average NDVI value of the mining area each month was calculated using Landsat image data from 2000 to 2015. The vegetation cover area in the coalfields was extracted according to the NDVI threshold, and the scatter plots of the annual maximum NDVI and vegetation cover area were drawn. We fitted the variation trend line of maximum NDVI value and vegetation cover area to reduce the effect of meteorological factors on NDVI values. Results show that after the closure of open pit and reclamation of dump area, the NDVI of open-pit coalfields and vegetation cover area have been increasing rapidly over the last decade, and the ecological environment of these coalfields has obviously improved. The coal mining activities have led to the rapid decline of annual maximum NDVI and vegetation cover area of the coalfields in permafrost zones, and the ecological environment of coalfields continues to deteriorate. Although the quarterly average NDVI remains unchanged in non-permafrost mining coalfields under coal exploitation, the vegetation cover area in the coalfields decreases linearly, indicating that the ecological environment of the coalfields tends to deteriorate. From an ecological environment protection perspective, the results of this study provide a basis for decision making in constructing large-scale open pits in cold and arid zones.

In this experiment, a new type of nutritional drink—millet skim milk beverage—was developed based on combining skim milk with millet and nutritional resource utilization. The effects of NaHCO3 concentrations in soaking water (0, 0.5 g/100 mL, and 1.0 g/100 mL) and blanching time (0, 15, and 30 min) on the physicochemical properties of millet skim milk were studied. The parameter changes caused by the above treatment were evaluated via color analysis, physicochemical analysis and sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE). Soaking in water containing NaHCO3 had a significant (p < 0.05) effect on pH, specific gravity, viscosity, and stability. The blanching treatment had a significant (p < 0.05) influence on the total solids of the samples. However, blanching only slightly affected the physical properties of the samples. In addition, soaking and blanching treatments had significant (p < 0.05) effects on the b* value of millet skim milk beverage, whereas there was no significant (p > 0.05) change in L* and a*. SDS-PAGE analysis indicated that the blanching treatment had a significant (p < 0.05) effect on band 5 and band 6 and that the soaking treatment also had a significant effect on the bands of 6 and 7 (p < 0.05). By analyzing the substantial effects, we concluded that the optimum process conditions were soaking with 0.5 g/100 mL NaHCO3 solution and blanching for 15 min.

It is well known that the flavor of skim milk is inferior to whole milk due to the lack of fat. With the popularity of low-fat dairy products, improving the flavor of skim milk is a main focus for food scientists. During the production of skim milk, preheating treatments have a significant effect for the flavor of skim milk. In this study, to explore the optimal processing conditions, milk was preheated at 30 °C, 40 °C, 50 °C, 60 °C for 30 min prior to defatting. When the optimal temperature was determined, milk was then preheated at the optimal temperature for 10 min, 20 min, 30 min, 40 min and 50 min, respectively, to obtain the best preheating time. Distinctions between skim milk samples with different processing conditions were studied by sensory evaluation, e-tongue and HS-SPME-GC-MS analysis. Principle components analysis (PCA) and cluster analysis (CA) were selected to associate with e-tongue results and compare the similarities and differences among the skim milks. Sensory and e-tongue results matched and both showed that a preheating temperature of 50 °C and 30 min time might be the optimal combination of processing conditions. Thirteen volatiles, including ketones, acids, aldehydes, alcohols, alkanes and sulfur compounds, were analyzed to evaluate flavor of the skim milks produced by different preheating treatments. Combined with previous studies, the results indicated that most volatile compounds were decreased by reducing the fat concentration and the typical compound 2-heptanone was not detected in our skim milk samples.

Scientific and appropriate visualizations increase the effectiveness and readability of disaster information. However, existing fusion visualization methods for disaster scenes have some deficiencies, such as the low efficiency of scene visualization and difficulties with disaster information recognition and sharing. In this paper, a fusion visualization method for disaster information, based on self-explanatory symbols and photorealistic scene cooperation, was proposed. The self-explanatory symbol and photorealistic scene cooperation method, the construction of spatial semantic rules, and fusion visualization with spatial semantic constraints were discussed in detail. Finally, a debris flow disaster was selected for experimental analysis. The experimental results show that the proposed method can effectively realize the fusion visualization of disaster information, effectively express disaster information, maintain high-efficiency visualization, and provide decision-making information support to users involved in the disaster process.
