Mindi ( Melia azedarach Linn ., family Meliaceae ) is a multipurpose forest tree species such as for furniture, vinier and plywood, otherwise the leaves for pesticide and medicine material. Mindi mostly cultivated in a community forest, especially in West Java. This study was aimed to assess the growth performance and genetic parameter of the progeny test of mindi at Parungpanjang Forest Research Station, Bogor, West Java. The progeny test was established by using a randomized complete block design, consisting of 6 blocks and 73 families and each family consisting of 4 trees row-plot. The survival at 7 years old was 57.48%, height was 7.15 m and diameter is 8.59 cm, in average. The height and diameter growth s among families showed a significantly different. The best family growth in height and diameter were Sumedang-31 and Bogor-18 families, respectively. The individual and family heritabilities for both stem diameter and tree heght characters were stil relatively low , with the higher family heritability value than individual heritability . The genetic correlation between total height and stem diameter of 0. 57 indicates a strong correlation between the traits.

Teak wood is the superior wood for carpentry, and the need for carpentry continues to increase in Indonesia. It has prompted various efforts to increase teak production, both in state forests and non-state forests. One of the efforts to increase teak production is using advance d science and technology, superior teak seed ling s from mutation breeding. This study aims to describe smallholder's perception of the demonstration plot of Muna Teak from mutation breeding in the Cariu Private Forest, Bogor Regency. The research used two methods : Focus ed Group Discussion and semi-structured interviews by questionnaires. For the analysis, the study used the perceptual process framework) to explore the data from the two methods and present it descriptively . The result show s that smallholders had a good perception toward the mutation breeding Muna Teak demonstration plot . Smallholders can carry out intercropping (agroforestry) activities in the demonstration plot and increase their knowledge of forestry plant cultivation, especially teak . The activity provide s an opportunity for smallholders to improve their welfare.

In the planting program of lamtoro ( Leucaena leucocephala ), healthy and vigorous seed ling s are needed, therefore , it is necessary to apply fertilizer at the nursery stage . The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of tofu's liquid waste and cow's urine on the growth of lamtoro seedlings at aged 6 weeks until 14 weeks. The treatments consisted of control, tofu ’s liquid waste ( 30% and 40% ) , and cow ’s urine ( 50%, 60% and 70% ) . T reatment was given every 2 weeks. Parameters observed were height, diameter, number of leaves, biomass, toughness, shoot root ratio, seed ling quality index and chlorophyll content. The results showed that 30% and 40% of tofu’s liquid waste had a significant effect on increasing the height growth at 6 weeks and 8 weeks old seedling. The 70% cow’s urine has a significant effect on increasing the height growth at 6 weeks until 12 weeks old seedling. The 60% cow’s urine had a significant effect on increasing the number of leaves.

The existence of the muna teak ( Tectona grandis L.) , is currently threatened with extinction, so a muna teak replanting program is needed. Micropropagation techniques can be one solution for the supply of high quality seed ling s. The purpose of this study was to obtain the optimum sterilization technique to get the sterilize explants of muna teak and to get the suitable media for in vitro multiplication. The study was conducted in a tissue culture laboratory of the Forest Tree Seed Technology Research and Development Centre in Bogor. This study consisted of two stages and the experimental design used was a completely randomized design. The first phase of the study was the treatment of sterilization techniques consisted of soaking explants in various concentration of clorox solution and t he second stage of the study was the treatment of multiplication media. The results showed that the proper sterilization technique to obtain sterilize explants of m una teak seedlings was immersed in 20% chlorox solution for 10 minutes, then immersed in 15% of chlorox for 15 minutes. The best medium for the induction stage and multiplication of Muna teak buds which are modified media plus Benzyl Amino Purine ( BAP ) hormone as much as 0.1 mg .l -1

One source of potential biofuel feedstock in Indonesia is nyamplung ( Calophyllum inophyl l um ) . Superiority of nyamplung is having a high oil content of 40 percent ― 73 percent . The purpose of this study was to identify growth variation and heritability value for the height and diameter characters of nyamplung seedlings at six months old from 26 parent trees from Sumenep, Madura. The research used Randomized Complete Block Design with 26 families from Sumenep Madura as treatment, each treatment consisted of 3 replications,each replication consisted of 8 seedlings, so the number of seedlings used was 624 seedlings. The results showed that there were diversity in growth (height and diameter) at the level of nyamplung seedling from Sumenep, Madura. The height and diameter of nyamplung seedlings of 26 families tested varied between 12.52 cm ― 21.27 cm and 3.04 mm ― 4.54 mm. Individual heritability values for seedling height and diameter are 0.27 and 0.16, while family heritability values are 0.65 for height and 0.52 for diameter

Gall rust disease caused by Uromycladium falcatarium fungus is one of sengon ( Falcataria moluccana ) diseases in the nursery and field. The purpose of this study was determining the effect of seed sources and controller type against the resistance of sengon seedlings from infection of Uromycladium falcatarium in the nursery. The research design used a factorial completely randomized design with two 2 factors i.e sources of the seed (A1 = seed from the endemic area of gall rust/Kediri; A2 = seed from non-endemic of gall rust/Cianjur) and the type of cotrollers (B1 = no treatment l; B2 = biological fertilizer of Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) (5 g.l -1 ); B3 = Biofungicide (5 g.l -1 ); B4 = biofungicide of soursop leaf extract (10 g.l -1 ); B5 =mancozeb (2 g.l -1 ). Each treatment combination consisted of 10 seedlings repeated 4 times. The observation variables were the disease incidence and intensity, the number of teliospores and thickness of the epidermal cell wall. The results of the study showed that the interaction of seed sources and type of controller affected the number of teliospores and thickness of the epidermis. The lowest number of teliospores (6.48 teliospores) was found in seedlings f rom non endemic gall rust areas with the controller of soursop leaf extract. The thickest epidermal cells (5.43 μ - 5.84 μ) were produced from seedlings from gall rust-free area with PGPR solution controller, soursop leaf extract and mancozeb. The disease intensity in seedlings originating from gall-free areas (3.5 percent) is lower than endemic areas (5.2 percent). PGPR and mancozeb were effective to the infection of fungus because the disease incidence and intensity were low after the 3rd control stage.

Sengon known as forest product with high market demand . Tissue culture is one multiplication method to get seeds in large quantities . One factors that support the success of reproduction is the health of the plant material. The purpose of the study is to determine the influence of pre-sterilization treatments towards the successful initiation of sengon organogenesis. The research method was done by spraying the seedlings with Pyraclostrobin 50 g.kg -1 + Metiram 550 g.kg -1 of 2,500 ppm every week for 3 months. Each explant was grown on MS medium. The observation was carried out done every 1 week for 12 weeks, including the amount of contamination (bacteria, fungi), browning and the appearance of buds, roots and callus. Data were analyzed by t-test. The next stage is multiplication by using treatments of 24D 0.1 mM, 24D 0.5 mM, BAP 0.5 mM, BAP 2 mM, K 0.1 mM, K 0.5 mM, TDZ 0.1 mM, TDZ 0, 5 mM, and control. Completely randomized design was used and analyzed by using one way ANOVA, and tested with Duncan for the differences at 0,05 significant level. The results showed that pra-sterilization treatment was capable of supporting the successful initiation of sengon shoots characterized by low levels of contamination, increased number of callus and number of sengon shoots explants. Kinetin 0.01 mM in the multiplication media of sengon shoots was able to increase the number of adventitious shoots.

To ensure that only high-quality seed is marketed, the seed inspector of the registered forestry-seed commercial providers plays a vital role. It will perform all the necessary tasks, including variety inspection, release testing of seed processing, and enforcement of the seed regulation. The registered forestry-seed commercial providers should conform to seed standards. Currently, the availability of high-quality seeds is crucial to achieve predictable planting. In case of unavailability of sufficient qualities standard, the seed inspector allowed for operating the punishment act. Therefore, this research aims to evaluate both the seed inspector and the registered forestry-seed commercial providers to indicate that the seed-regulations implementation is successful. Data are collected by spreading questionnaire and using a narrative-based qualitative method. The result confirms that policy formulation is a challenge to the regulators, but processes effectively tackle this challenge in four sequence stages. The first stage is the problem formulation about seed-sources development, seed variety coordination at permanent nurseries, law reinforcement, and regulator role strengthening. The second stage is policy agenda through controlling over market opportunities by the regulator. The third stage is selecting alternative policies to solve problems by implementing the cluster system based on local-seed variety. The fourth stage is establishing procedures.

Tembesu (Fagraea fragrans Roxb.) is a multipurpose indigenous species in Indonesia that can grow well on various types of site, such as in the dry land, temporary waterlogged or permanent waterlogged land. The purpose of this study was to examine the morpho-physiological characteristics of leaves, fruits, and seeds of tembesu from five populations in South Sumatra and Western Java. Analysis of variance with completely randomized design was used to discern the characters among the five populations (Kemampo, Sungai Pinang, Kota Raya, Dago, and Carita). The results showed that all of the morpho-physiological characteristics of leaves, fruits, and seeds were significantly different among populations. Severalvariables of agro-climate significantly correlated with leaves, fruits, and seeds characteristics indicating the environment’s influence. Most of the charaters had higher environment coefficient of variances than genotypic coefficient of variances which revealed a high environment contributions. Based on the characteristics of leaves, fruits, and seeds, the populations can be grouped in two, i.e. the first group consisted of the population from South Sumatra (Kemampo, Sungai Pinang, Kota Raya) and the second group from the population of Western Java (Dago and Carita). The investigation has important practical implications for genetic resources management and future breedingprograms of tembesu. Key words: Fragraea fragrans, morphology, site grow, viability ABSTRAK Tembesu (Fagraea fragrans Roxb.) merupakan salah satu jenis multiguna asli Indonesia yang mampu tumbuh pada berbagai tipe lahan, seperti lahan kering, lahan tergenang sementara dan selalu tergenang. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui keragaman karakteristik morfo fisiologi daun, buah, dan benih tembesu dari lima populasi di Sumatera Selatan dan Jawa Bagian Barat. Analisis ragam dengan menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap digunakan untuk mengidentifikasi perbedaan karakteristik daun, buah, dan benih tembesu dari lima populasi (Kemampo, Sungai Pinang, Kota Raya, Dago, dan Carita). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan seluruh karakter morfo-fisiologis daun, buah, dan benih tembesu berbeda nyata antar populasi. Beberapa variabel agro-iklim berkorelasi dengan karakteristik daun, buah, dan benih yang memberi indikasi adanya pengaruh lingkungan selain genetik. Sebagian besar karakteristik daun, buah, dan benih memiliki nilai koefisien keragaman lingkungan yang lebih besar dibandingkan koefisien keragaman genetik yang menunjukkan besarnya kontribusi lingkungan. Berdasarkan karakteristik daun, buah, dan benih, dari lima populasi yang diuji terdapat dua kelompok, yaitu kelompok pertama, populasi Sumatera Selatan (Kemampo, Sungai Pinang, Kota Raya) dan kelompok kedua populasi Jawa Bagian Barat (Dago dan Carita). Sengon (Falcataria moluccana (Miq. Barneby & J.W.Grimes) is one of timber producing species of high economic value. Recently, sengon productivity decreases due to pests and diseases, attack is caused by the fungus Uromycladium tepperianum (SACE.) McAlp. The control of gall rust disease at seedling level is important, because the stadia nursery are the most vulnerable. The aim of this research was to determine the effectiveness of the type of control in supressing the fungus of U. tepperianum and the growth of sengon in a nursery. The research design used a completely randomized design (CRD) with five treatments of gall rust disease control types i.e. control ; biological fertilizer of Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) (5 g -L of water), biofungicide (5 g-L of water); chemical fungicide (2 g-L of water); and boron (300 ppm). Each treatment consisted of 20 seedlings repeated 4 times. The observed response were the number of fungal spores, diameter and height of seedlings. In addition, calculation of the effectiveness of the type of controller was counted. The results showed that after two weeks of fungal infections, the highest seedling growth was the seedling treated with fungicide (0.53 cm), while the lowest was the seedling treated with biological fungicide (0.32 cm). PGPR, fungicide biological, chemical fungicides and boron did not effective to the attack of fungus and to increase the growth of height and diameter of sengon seedling after the 4th week of the fungus infection.

Salah satu kendala dalam penyediaan benih bermutu yaitu adanya penyakit benih. Patogen dapat menginfeksi baik pada biji pada saat di lapangan maupun pada saat penyimpanan. Serangan patogen benih dapat menyebabkan menurunnya kualitas dan persentase perkecambahan benih. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui teknik pengendalian penyakit benih terhadap viabilitas benih tembesu (Fagraea fragrans Roxb).Teknik pengendalian dapat secara fisik seperti direndam dalam air dingin, secara kimia seperti direndam dalam larutan mankozeb 1% atau larutan NaOCl 1 % dan secara biologi seperti direndam dalam larutan cuka kayu 1 % atau larutan sirih 1 %. Rata-rata jumlah berkecambah/0,1 gram pada kontrol, air, larutan NaOCl 1 %, larutan sirih 1 %, larutan cuka kayu 1 %, larutan mankozeb 1 % masing-masing sebesar 1,5; 119,75; 97,75; 133,25; 201,25 dan 152,5. Perubahan iklim menyebabkan sebagian lahan di Indonesia menjadi tergenang ataupun kekeringan. Salah satu bentuk mitigasi yang dapat dilakukan adalah mengetahui jenis-jenis tanaman yang mampu tumbuh pada kondisi cekaman tergenang atau kekeringan. Informasi tentang kemampuan tumbuh bambang lanang pada berbagai kondisi cekaman masih sangat kurang. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui respon pertumbuhan bibit bambang lanang pada kondisi cekaman tergenang dan kekeringan. Rancangan penelitian yang digunakan adalah rancangan faktorial dalam acak lengkap. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa bibit bambang lanang sampai umur empat minggu, peka terhadap perlakuan kekeringan ataupun genangan. Kematian pada bibit terlihat dari nilai indeks sensivitas untuk respon diameter (IS = 1,089 – 1,155) dan persen tumbuh (IS = 1,318). Secara umum mekanisme toleran terhadap cekaman belum terlihat pada tingkat bibit sampai umur empat minggu.

Jabon putih ( Anthocephalus cadamba Miq.) merupakan salah satu jenis tanaman hutan cepat tumbuh potensial yang tersebar secara alami di sebagian besar pulau-pulau Indonesia. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji karakteristik tapak dan keragaman morfofisiologi benih dan bibit jabon putih. Benih dikumpulkan dari 11 populasi alami, yaitu di Sumatera (3 populasi), Jawa (2 populasi), Nusa Kambangan (1 populasi), Kalimantan (2 populasi), Sulawesi (2 populasi) dan Sumbawa (1 populasi). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa jabon putih mempunyai sebaran tempat tumbuh yang sangar luas dan kisaran kondisi tapak secara alami yang cukup beragam. Jenis ini mampu tumbuh baik pada kisaran ketinggian tempat 23–628 m dpl dengan kisaran pH tanah 4,4–6,7 dan tingkat kesuburan rendah hingga tinggi. Karakteristik morfofisiologi benih dan bibit berbeda nyata antar populasi, kecuali untuk karakter panjang radikula. Buah dengan ukuran dan berat yang lebih tinggi berkorelasi dengan pertumbuhan bibit yang lebih baik. Panjang benih berkorelasi dengan waktu rata-rata berkecambah dan panjang radikula. Korelasi juga terjadi antar karakter pada tingkat bibit. Sebagian besar karakter benih dan bibit yang diamati tidak berkorelasi dengan faktor- faktor geoklimat. Koefisien keragaman genotipe untuk semua parameter buah, benih, dan bibit ditemukan lebih tinggi daripada koefisien keragaman lingkungan.

Fungi are one of the main causes of damage to seeds. Fungi can be a pathogen or saprophyte such as Aspergillus sp. and Fusarium sp. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of filtrate fungus Aspergillus sp and Fusarium sp on seed viability and seedling growth performance of Sengon (Paraserianthes falcataria). The experiment design used was the Completely Randomized Design (CRD), with treatment: control, filtrate of Aspergillus sp and Fusarium sp filtrate. Each treatment was repeated 4 times. Variables measured include germination, percent of live seed, height, diameters, biomass, root shoot ratio, and the index quality seeds. The results showed that the fungus Aspergillus sp filtrate and Fusarium sp significantly affect seed germination, life percent, height, diameter, NPA, IMB, and biomass of seedlings Sengon. The filtrate of fungus Aspergillus sp and Fusarium sp may cause the decrease in seed viability and seedling vigor of Sengon.Keywords : Sengon (Paraserianthes falcataria), seeds, seedlings, fungi, Aspergillus sp, Fusarium sp.

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh infeksi cendawan Fusarium sp. dan Aspergillus sp. terhadap viabilitas benih, pertumbuhan tinggi dan diameter bibit S. macrophylla umur 1 bulan. Rancangan yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan perlakuan: kontrol, inokulasi Aspergillus sp. dan inokulasi Fusarium sp. Setiap perlakuan diulang 3 kali. Parameter yang diukur meliputi daya kecambah, pertumbuhan tinggi dan diameter bibit umur 1 bulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa inokulasi Fusarium sp. dan Aspergillus sp. menurunkan viabilitas benih S. macrophylla hingga mencapai 36,75% untuk Fusarium sp. dan 15,75% untuk Aspergillus sp. Inokulasi cendawan Fusarium sp. dan Aspergillus sp. berpengaruh nyata terhadap pertumbuhan tinggi dan diameter bibit S. macrophylla umur 1 bulan.

Setelah pemanenan, umumnya benih mengalami penyimpanan sementara (periode konservasi). Periode konservasi bertujuan untuk mengkondisikan benih mencapai potensi optimum sebelum mendapatkan penanganan lanjutan, misalnya memberikan perlakuan priming . Prinsip priming adalah mengaktifkan sumber daya internal dan sumber daya eksternal dalam memaksimumkan pertumbuhan kecambah melalui laju pengaturan penyerapan air oleh embrio. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui pengaruh periode konservasi dan perlakuan priming terhadap kemampuan perkecambahan benih kesambi. Penelitian dianalisis dengan rancangan acak lengkap faktorial, faktor utama adalah periode konservasi (A) dan priming (B). Periode konservasi terdiri dari : 0, 4, 8 dan 12 minggu pada suhu kamar (t = 25 o - 27 o C, RH = 80 - 90%), sedangkan taraf priming adalah : tanpa priming (kontrol), hidrasi - dehidrasi dengan H 2 O, PEG 6000 (- 5 dan - 10 bar), KNO 3 (- 5 dan - 10 bar) dan abu gosok. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa priming-matriconditioning dengan abu gosok merupakan perlakuan terbaik meningkatkan kapasitas perkecambahan, sedangkan penggunaan PEG dan KNO 3 berakibat buruk. Benih kesambi memiliki sifat pemasakan lanjutan ( after ripening ) sehingga membutuhkan penyimpanan sementara sebelum dikecambahkan.

Perbaikan kondisi tapak penanaman merupakan upaya penting untuk mengimbangi penurunan kualitas lahan hutan tanaman. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh ukuran lubang tanam dan dosis pupuk kandang terhadap pertumbuhan tanaman jati ( Tectona grandis ) asal kultur jaringan hingga umur 3 tahun di Hutan Penelitian Parungpanjang, Bogor. Penanaman dilakukan pada tahun 2001 dengan jarak tanam 3 x 3 m. Racangan yang digunakan adalah rancangan acak berblok dengan 4 blok. Setiap blok terdiri dari 5 petak perlakuan yang masing-masing berisi 49 pohon. Perlakuan yang digunakan terdiri dari: tanpa pupuk ukuran lubang 25 x 25 x 25 cm (F1), 1 kg pupuk ukuran lubang 50 x 50 x 50 cm (F2), 2 kg pupuk ukuran lubang 50 x 50 x 50 cm (F3), 3 kg pupuk dengan ukuran lubang 75 x 75 x 75 cm (F4), dan 4 kg pupuk dengan ukuran lubang 75 x 75 x 75 cm (F5). Pengukuran dilakukan dengan cara sensus pada umur 1, 2, dan 3 tahun. Parameter yang diukur meliputi persen hidup, tinggi, diameter, dan volume pohon. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kecenderungan bahwa makin besar lubang tanam dan makin banyak pupuk kandang memberikan pertumbuhan yang makin baik. Pemberian pupuk kandang dengan dosis F4 dan F5 memberikan hasil yang terbaik terhadap persentase hidup dan pertumbuhan tanaman jati. Untuk aplikasinya pada tanah-tanah yang padat dan miskin hara seperti di Parung panjang, perlakuan F4 dapat dipertimbangkan untuk diterapkan dalam meningkatkan keberhasilan penanaman jati. Perlakuan tersebut menghasilkan persen hidup 92%, tinggi 5,4 m, diameter 7,1 cm, dan volume pohon 0,0023 m 3 pada umur tanaman 3 tahun.

Pros Sem Nas Masy Biodiv Indon 1: 1278-1283. White jabon (Anthocephalus cadamba) and red jabon (Anthocephalus macrophyllus) are the potential species which currently has already develop rapidly. The objectives of this research were to investigate whether there are variations of morphology among of those species based on the dimensions of fruit, seeds, and leaves. The distribution of white jabon is quite large enough with the condition of diverse geo-climate, ranging from Sumatra to Papua, but the distribution of red jabon relatively more narrow, only found in several places in eastern Indonesia (Sulawesi and Maluku). In general, there are differences in terms of the size of fruit and seed between white and red Jabon. The weight of fruit of white jabon range between 28.15-111.25 grams, while red jabon range between 36.32-98.21 grams. The average of the bigger fruit diameter (DB) of white jabon is 44.3-64.5 mm and the average of the narrow fruit diameter (DK) is 41.7-58.0 mm, while the average of DB and DK of red jabon is 44.36-56.28 mm and 47.20-56.25 mm. Seed dimension (length and diameter ) of the white jabon ranged from 570.7- 635.6 I¼m and for the diameter of seed between 399.7-471.0 I¼m. Otherwise the size of the seed of red jabon relatively greater than the seed of white jabon, especially for seed origin from Manado. The average seed length of red jabon are 587.8-694.6 I¼m and the average of diameter are 383.4-481.9 I¼m. The average length of white jabon leaves ranges 23.90-29.70 cm, wide leaves 12.70-1.30 cm, length of petiole 3.20-4.30 cm and the amount of bone leaves 26-28. There are variations between the population in the size of fruit, seed, and leaves of jabon, but those characters do not correlate with altitude, lines of longitude, rainfall and temperature of the site.

Sengon (Albizia falcataria ) is the most potential species that develop in community forest with agroforestry system. The problem of sengon plantation was the attack of pest and diseases, that influence the decrease of productivity of sengon. To increase the productivity of sengon can be start from the seed for example through increase the viability and vigor of seed. In seed crops, technique irradiation of gamma rays have been used as seed treatment to increase vigor and quality of seeds, but on forest seeds is still limited information. The purpose of this research is to analyze the effectiveness of the irradiation of gamma rays to increase viability of sengon seed. The research design was factorials in randomized completely design , which consist of 2 factors, first factor was the origin of seeds and second factor was the dosage of radiation. The results show that the origin of seed and dosage of gamma rays gave a significant responses to germination percentage(DB) and speed of germination (KCT). In general the irradiation of gamma rays can increase the germination percentage (DB) and speed of germination (KCT).. The increasing of DB and KCT start at dosage 5 Gy, and continue increase until 90 Gy. The viability of seed raise from 13.5 % - 50,9 % from control. The technique of gamma rays irradiation in low dosage can be used to increase viability and vigor of sengon seed.Sengon (Albizia falcataria) merupakan salah satu jenis andalan di hutan rakyat, pada umumnya jenis ini ditanam menggunakan system agroforestry. Permasalahan pada tanaman sengon saat ini adalah banyaknya hama dan penyakit yang menyerang tegakan sengon, sehingga mengakibatkan menurunnya produktivitas. Peningkatan produktivitas dapat diupayakan sejak dari tingkat benih yaitu melalui peningkatan viabilitas dan vigor benih. Pemanfaatan teknik irradiasi sinar gamma digunakan sebagai seed treatment untuk meningkatkan vigor dan kualitas benih sudah banyak dilakukan pada benih tanaman pertanian, namun pada benih tanaman hutan masih terbatas. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mengetahui efektivitas penerapan teknik irradiasi sinar gamma untuk meningkatkan viabilitas benih sengon. Rancangan penelitian yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Faktorial dalam Acak Lengkap, terdiri dari 2 faktor, yaitu asal benih dan faktor lainnya adalah dosis radiasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa asal benih dan dosis sinar gamma berpengaruh nyata terhadap daya berkecambah dan kecepatan berkecambah benih sengon. Secara umum menunjukkan adanya peningkatan dalam perkecambahan yaitu daya berkecambah (DB) dan kecepatan berkecambah (KCT) akibat pemberian perlakuan irradiasi dengan sinar gamma. Peningkatan DB dan KCT mulai terlhat pada dosis 5 Gy, dan terus meningkat hingga dosis 90 Gy. Daya Berkecambah benih meningkat antara 13,5 % – 50,9 % dari kontrol. Hal ini berarti teknik irradiasi sinar gamma pada dosis rendah dapat digunakan utnuk meningkatkan viabilitas dan vigor benih sengon.

The procurement of good quality seeds for the development of mindi ( Melia azedarach L.) in the community forest is absolutely necessary. The purpose of this research is to investigate the diversity of the viability and seedling vigor of mindi from different populations with various treatments of dormancy breaking. The sample materials were mindi seeds that were collected from 6 locations (6 seed lots) or seed sources which were located in the community forest of West Java. There are 10 treatments of dormancy breaking that were applied in this study. The experiment design was Randomized Complete Design (RAL). The breaking dormancy was focused to the delignification of hard seed coat. Results showed that the most effective dormancy breaking for mindi seed was soaking in consentrated Sulfuric Acid (H 2 SO 4 ) as long as 30 to 45 minutes. The first count for germination of mindi was on the 16 day and the final count was on the 31 day.The average value of germination percentage (DB) for all seed sources was 40 %, while the highest which is 60% was mindi from Sumedang seed source. The highest value of germination rate that is 6,543%/etmal was seed from Sumedangand seed from Gambung was the lowest ( 1,400 %/etmal ).
