This study examined the phenol degradation capabilities and oxidative stress responses of Candida tropicalis SHC-03, demonstrating its metabolic superiority and resilience compared to Saccharomyces cerevisiae BY4742 in a culture medium with phenol as the sole carbon source. Through comparative growth, transcriptomic, and metabolomic analyses under different phenol concentrations, this study revealed C. tropicalis SHC-03’s specialized adaptations for thriving in phenol as the sole carbon source environments. These include a strategic shift from carbohydrate metabolism to enhanced phenol degradation pathways, highlighted by the significant upregulation of genes for Phenol 2-monoxygenase and Catechol 1,2-dioxygenase. Despite phenol levels reaching 1.8 g/L, C. tropicalis exhibits a robust oxidative stress response, efficiently managing ROS through antioxidative pathways and the upregulation of genes for peroxisomal proteins like PEX2, PEX13, and PMP34. Concurrently, there was significant upregulation of genes associated with membrane components and transmembrane transporters, enhancing the cell’s capacity for substance exchange and signal transduction. Especially, when the phenol concentration was 1.6 g/L and 1.8 g/L, the degradation rates of C. tropicalis towards it were 99.47 and 95.91%, respectively. Conversely, S. cerevisiae BY4742 shows limited metabolic response, with pronounced growth inhibition and lack of phenol degradation. Therefore, our study not only sheds light on the molecular mechanisms underpinning phenol tolerance and degradation in C. tropicalis but also positions this yeast as a promising candidate for environmental and industrial processes aimed at mitigating phenol pollution.

Levulinic acid, a hydrolysis product of lignocellulose, can be metabolized into important compounds in the field of medicine and pesticides by engineered strains of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Levulinic acid, as an intermediate product widely found in the conversion process of lignocellulosic biomass, has multiple applications. However, its toxicity to Saccharomyces cerevisiae reduces its conversion efficiency, so screening Saccharomyces cerevisiae genes that can tolerate levulinic acid becomes the key. By creating a whole-genome knockout library and bioinformatics analysis, this study used the phenotypic characteristics of cells as the basis for screening and found the HMX1 gene that is highly sensitive to levulinic acid in the oxidative stress pathway. After knocking out HMX1 and treating with levulinic acid, the omics data of the strain revealed that multiple affected pathways, especially the expression of 14 genes related to the cell wall and membrane system, were significantly downregulated. The levels of acetyl-CoA and riboflavin decreased by 1.02-fold and 1.44-fold, respectively, while the content of pantothenic acid increased. These findings indicate that the cell wall-membrane system, as well as the metabolism of acetyl-CoA and riboflavin, are important in improving the resistance of Saccharomyces cerevisiae to levulinic acid. They provide theoretical support for enhancing the tolerance of microorganisms to levulinic acid, which is significant for optimizing the conversion process of lignocellulosic biomass to levulinic acid.

PurposeTo investigate the contrast sensitivity function (CSF) changes in simple high myopia (SHM) and evaluate the correlations between these changes with the early changes in the retinal microstructure.MethodsThis prospective study comprised 81 subjects, 20 with emmetropia (EM), 26 with low myopia and moderate myopia (LM/MM), and 35 with SHM. The area under the log CSF curve (AULCSF) and the cut-off spatial frequency (Cut-off SF) were employed as measures of CSF. Adaptive optics (AO) was employed to quantify the cone density, spacing, and regularity. The thickness and blood flow of the retinal sublayers were determined from vertical and horizontal optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) A-scans. Swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) was employed to analyze the choroidal thickness (CT) and choroidal vascularity using a custom algorithm. Differences in the retinal and choroidal parameters, cone distribution, AULCSF, and Cut-off SF were compared among the three groups. Engineering Saccharomyces cerevisiae for biodegradation and transformation of industrial toxic substances such as catechol (CA) has received widespread attention, but the low tolerance of S. cerevisiae to CA has limited its development. The exploration and modification of genes or pathways related to CA tolerance in S. cerevisiae is an effective way to further improve the utilization efficiency of CA. This study identified 36 genes associated with CA tolerance in S. cerevisiae through genome-wide identification and bioinformatics analysis and the ERG6 knockout strain (ERG6Δ) is the most sensitive to CA. Based on the omics analysis of ERG6Δ under CA stress, it was found that ERG6 knockout affects pathways such as intrinsic component of membrane and pentose phosphate pathway. In addition, the study revealed that 29 genes related to the cell wall-membrane system were up-regulated by more than twice, NADPH and NADP+ were increased by 2.48 and 4.41 times respectively, and spermidine and spermine were increased by 2.85 and 2.14 times, respectively, in ERG6Δ. Overall, the response of cell wall-membrane system, the accumulation of spermidine and NADPH, as well as the increased levels of metabolites in pentose phosphate pathway are important findings in improving the CA resistance. This study provides a theoretical basis for improving the tolerance of strains to CA and reducing the damage caused by CA to the ecological environment and human health.

Making use of a telescoping approach, three types of sums of binomial quotients are examined. The summation terms of the two types of alternating sums have symmetry (i.e., their numerators and denominators are completely symmetric). We obtained a series of their explicit sums. Furthermore, by means of binomial relations, three recurrence relations of the sums are derived. In addition, series of double summation formulae involving binomial quotients are established.

Proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H MRS) presents a powerful tool for revealing molecular-level metabolite information, complementary to the anatomical insight delivered by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), thus playing a significant role in in vivo/in vitro biological studies. However, its further applications are generally confined by spectral congestion caused by numerous biological metabolites contained within the limited proton frequency range. Herein, we propose a pure-shift-based 1H localized MRS method as a proof of concept for high-resolution studies of biological samples. Benefitting from the spectral simplification from multiplets to singlet peaks, this method addresses the challenge of spectral congestion encountered in conventional MRS experiments and facilitates metabolite analysis from crowded NMR resonances. The performance of the proposed pure-shift 1H MRS method is demonstrated on different kinds of samples, including brain metabolite phantom and in vitro biological samples of intact pig brain tissue and grape tissue, using a 7.0 T animal MRI scanner. This proposed MRS method is readily implemented in common commercial NMR/MRI instruments because of its generally adopted pulse-sequence modules. Therefore, this study takes a meaningful step for MRS studies toward potential applications in metabolite analysis and disease diagnosis.

In this paper, a novel transistor based on a hybrid conduction mechanism of band-to-band tunneling and drift-diffusion is proposed and investigated with the aid of TCAD tools. Besides the on and off states, the proposed device presents an additional intermediate state between the on and off states. Based on the tri-state behavior of the proposed TDFET (tunneling and drift-diffusion field-effect transistor), a ternary inverter is designed and its operation principle is studied in detail. It was found that this device achieves ternary logic with only two components, and its structure is simple. In addition, the influence of the supply voltage and the key device parameters are also investigated.

In this work, we establish some characteristics for a sequence, Aα(n,k), including recurrence relations, generating function and inversion formula, etc. Based on the sequence, we derive, by means of the generating function approach, some transformation formulas concerning certain combinatorial numbers named after Lah, Stirling, harmonic, Cauchy and Catalan, as well as several closed finite sums. In addition, the relationship between Aα(n,k) and r-Whitney–Lah numbers is established, and some formulas for the r-Whitney–Lah numbers are obtained.

AbstractThe systemic review and meta-analysis aimed to identify the predictors for short-term successful weaning from CRRT in severe AKI patients. PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library, and grey literature were searched for relevant studies investigating variables for short-term successful weaning from CRRT to August 2022. Our criteria included patients with AKI who required CRRT but excluded patients with kidney failure. The pooled odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated using fixed-effect (I2≤50% and P-value of the Q statistic > 0.1) or random-effect models (I2>50% or p-value of the Q statistic ≤ 0.1) as appropriate. Our search yielded 11 studies and described 11 variables. The pooled analysis showed that chronic kidney disease (OR = 0.638, 95% CI: 0.491–0.829), CRRT duration (OR = 0.913, 95% CI: 0.882–0.946), and urine output at the cessation of CRRT (per 100 mL/day increase) (OR = 1.084, 95% CI: 1.061–1.108) were predictive factors for short-term successful weaning from CRRT. Male (OR = 0.827, 95% CI: 0.627-1.092), diabetes mellitus (OR = 0.970, 95% CI: 0.761–1.237), and sepsis (OR = 0.911, 95% CI: 0.717–1.158) were unrelated to the short-term weaning from CRRT. The relationship between hypertension, use of vasopressors or inotropes at the starting of CRRT, use of vasopressors or inotropes at the cessation of CRRT, use of diuretics at the cessation of CRRT, serum creatinine at the cessation of CRRT, and short-term weaning from CRRT remains unclear. Additional prospective studies are needed to evaluate this relationship further.

The government of China has launched an environmental campaign called “Ecological Civilization Construction” and successively set up demonstration zones for ecological civilization construction in some regions since 2012. This paper studies how demonstration zones influence technology investment of local enterprises. In order to eliminate potential endogeneity issues and differences in time trends of technology investment in regions and industries outside of policy impacts, so as to accurately identify policy effects of demonstration zones, we adopted the difference-in-difference (DID) and difference-in-difference-in-difference (DDD) model. The results are as follows: first, after the policy, firms in the demonstration zones make more investment in technology, and the necessary condition for this effect is that the firms are in a state of growth. Second, the level of regional economic development has a positive moderating effect on the main results by influencing the impact of policies on local government incentives. Third, the intensity of environmental regulation expressed by air pollution index has a positive moderating effect on the main results. Fourth, firms with strong social responsibility will not be affected by such administrative pressure. Fifth, whether firms with strong financing constraints can increase technology investment depends on government subsidies.

As a key role in hindering the large-scale application of fuel cells, oxygen reduction reaction has always been a hot issue and nodus. Aiming to explore state-of-art electrocatalysts, this paper reviews the latest development of nonmetallic catalysts in oxygen reduction reactions, including single atoms doped with carbon materials such as N, B, P or S and multi-doped carbon materials. Afterward, the remaining challenges and research directions of carbon-based nonmetallic catalysts are prospected.

Glioma is the most common malignancy of the nervous system with high mortality rates. The MS4A family members have been reported as potential prognostic biomarkers in several cancers; however, the relationship between the MS4A family and glioma has not been clearly confirmed. In our study, we explored the prognostic value of MS4As as well as their potential pro-cancer mechanisms of glioma. Using bioinformatics analysis methods based on the data from public databases, we found that the expression of MS4A4A, MS4A4E, MS4A6A, MS4A7, TMEM176A, and TMEM176B was significantly overexpressed in glioma tissues compared with that of normal tissues. The Kaplan–Meier method and Cox proportional hazards models revealed that high levels of MS4As can be associated with a poorer prognosis; TMEM176A, TMEM176B, age, WHO grade, and IDH status were identified as independent prognostic factors. Enrichment analysis predicted that MS4As were related to tumor-related pathways and immune response, which might regulate the process of MS4As promoting tumorigenesis. Additionally, we analyzed the correlations of MS4A expression with immune cells and immune inhibitory molecules. Finally, data from the cell culture suggested that knockdown of the TMEM176B gene contributes to the decreased proliferation and migration of glioma cells. In conclusion, MS4A4A, MS4A4E, MS4A6A, MS4A7, TMEM176A, and TMEM176B may act as potential diagnostic or prognostic biomarkers in glioma and play a role in forming the immune microenvironment in gliomas.

Indentation gonioscopy is commonly used in the clinic to evaluate peripheral anterior synechia (PAS) of angle closure glaucoma (ACG). The examination requires contacting with the cornea, resulting in an uncomfortable feeling for patients, and it only provides qualitative outcomes which may be affected by subjective judgment of the clinicians. Previous studies had reported to identify the presence of PAS by measuring the changes of morphological parameters of the anterior chamber angle (ACA) under the pupillary light reflex, by anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT). However, this method was invalid for some subjects who had low sensitiveness to light. This article describes an air-puff dynamic anterior segment optical coherence tomography (DAS-OCT) system that can evaluate the presence of PAS in a non-contact approach. The peripheral cornea is deformed by an air puff jetted from the DAS-OCT, causing a transfer of force to the ACA, just as how indentation gonioscopy works. The dynamic changes of the ACA before and after the air puff are recorded by OCT. Ten eyes of normal subjects were enrolled in this study to validate the repeatability and availability of the measurements. Then, ten samples of the ACA from five subjects with ACG were recruited and were assigned into two groups, the non PAS group (NPAS) and PAS group, according to the results of gonioscopy. The ACA structural parameters including the angle opening distance at 750 μm to the scleral spur (AOD750) and the trabecular-iris space area at 750 μm anterior to the scleral spur (TISA750) were then calculated automatically by a custom-written algorithm. The intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) of measured parameters was all above 0.85 for normal subjects, exhibiting good repeatability. For patients, both parameters showed significant differences between the two groups after the air puff, while no differences were observed before the air puff. AOD750dif and TISA750dif between two groups showed more significant differences, indicating that they could be used as indicators to identify the presence of PAS. In conclusion, the DAS-OCT system proposed in this study is demonstrated effective to identify the presence of PAS by measuring the changes of the ACA via a noncontact approach. It shows great potential for applications in guidance for diagnosis of angle closure glaucoma.

Abstract Cytosolic inflammasomes are supramolecular complexes that are formed in response to intracellular pathogens and danger signals. However, as to date, the detailed description of a homotypic caspase recruitment domain (CARD) interaction between NLRP1 and ASC has not been presented. We found the CARD–CARD interaction between purified NLRP1CARD and ASCCARD experimentally and the filamentous supramolecular complex formation in an in vitro proteins solution. Moreover, we determined a high-resolution crystal structure of the death domain fold of the human ASCCARD. Mutational and structural analysis revealed three conserved interfaces of the death domain superfamily (Type I, II, and III), which mediate the assembly of the NLRP1CARD/ASCCARD complex. In addition, we validated the role of the three major interfaces of CARDs in assembly and activation of NLRP1 inflammasome in vitro. Our findings suggest a Mosaic model of homotypic CARD interactions for the activation of NLRP1 inflammasome. The Mosaic model provides insights into the mechanisms of inflammasome assembly and signal transduction amplification.

Abstract Background Thymocyte selection‐associated high mobility group box (TOX) plays a crucial role on the development of innate immunity and tumor microenvironment. This study aims to explore the prognostic potential of TOX and comprehensively analyze the correlations between TOX, immune infiltration, and T cells function in diverse cancers particularly lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). Methods TIMER was used to analyze TOX expression in different cancers. Potential prognostic value of TOX was evaluated by the PrognoScan, Kaplan‐Meier Plotter, and GEPIA2. The relationships between TOX, immune infiltration, and related gene marker sets were analyzed by TIMER and GEPIA2. Single‐cell RNA‐seq for T cells in LUAD was analyzed to further investigate the correlations between TOX expression and different T cells populations. Results TOX downregulates in most of the cancer types and correlates with poor prognosis in LUAD. TOX shows significant impacts on survival of LUAD with early stage, ever‐smoking, or low‐TMB status. Increased TOX expression positively correlates with high immune infiltration levels in most of the immune cells and functional T cells including exhausted T cells. Moreover, multiple key genes of exhausted T cells comprising PD‐1, TIM‐3, TIGHT, and CXCL13 have remarkable interaction with TOX. Specifically, TOX is observed with high enrichment in exhausted CD4+ and CD8+ T cells populations in single‐cell RNA‐seq analysis for LUAD. Conclusion TOX is a prognosis‐related biomarker for multiple cancer types especially LUAD. Increased TOX expression significantly increase immune infiltration levels in most of the immune cells comprising CD8+ T cells, CD4+ T cells, mast cells, and functional T cells. Moreover, we verified that TOX highly correlates with exhausted T cells and is probable a critical regulator promoted T cells exhaustion in LUAD. Detection of TOX expression could help to predict prognosis and regulating TOX expression in exhausted T cells may offer a novel strategy in maximizing immunotherapy efficacy for LUAD.

The behavior of the magnetic field sensitivity of nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers as a function of microwave power and the inhomogeneous distribution of MW fields was systematically studied. An optimal structure for exciting spin structures by MW signals was designed using two parallel loop antennas. The volume of the homogeneous regions was approximately 42 mm3, and the associated diameter of the diamond reached up to 5.2 mm with 1016 NV sensors. Based on this structure, the detection contrast and voltage fluctuation of an optically detected magnetic resonance (ODMR) signal were optimized, and the sensitivity was improved to 5 nT/√Hz. In addition, a pulse sequence was presented to fully eliminate the MW broadening. The magnetic field sensitivity was improved by approximately one order of magnitude as the π-pulse duration was increased to its coherence time. This offers a useful way to improve the sensitivity of spin-based sensors.

Ischemic heart disease (IHD) is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. C-type lectin domain family 3 member B (CLEC3B) is a C-type lectin superfamily member and is reported to promote tissue remodeling. The serum levels of CLEC3B are downregulated in patients with cardiovascular disease. However, the molecular mechanisms of CLEC3B in IHD is not well-characterized. Therefore, we overexpressed CLEC3B and silenced CLEC3B in H9c2 rat cardiomyocytes for the first time. We then constructed a model of IHD in vitro through culturing H9c2 cardiomyocytes in serum-free medium under oxygen-deficit conditions. Then, Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8), flow cytometry, qRT-PCR, and western blot assays were performed to investigate cell viability, apoptosis, and expression levels of CLEC3B, phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K), phosphorylated PI3K (p-PI3K), protein kinase B (Akt), phosphorylated Akt (p-Akt), and cleaved-caspase 3. Abstract Macrophages are an essential component of innate immunity and play a vital role in inflammation and host defense. Based on immunological responses, the macrophages are classified into “activated” macrophage (M1 macrophages) participating in the responses of type I helper T (Th1) cells to pathogens and “alternatively activated” macrophages (M2 macrophages) in response to interleukin (IL)-4 and IL-13. In this review, we discuss the origin, classification and function of macrophages. We also discuss the mechanisms underlying polarization of different macrophage subtypes, including transcriptional, epigenetic and post-transcriptional regulation.

Abstract Background The macrophage, one of the several key immune cell types, is believed to be involved in tumorigenesis. However, the mechanism of macrophages promoting tumor progression is largely unknown. Methods The differentially secreted proteins of M1 and M2 macrophages were analyzed by mass spectrometry. We performed GST pull-down assay for the identification of cell-membrane receptors that interact with chitinase 3-like protein 1 (CHI3L1) protein. The mouse model was used to validate the function of CHI3L1 in cancer metastasis in vivo. Protein phosphorylation and gene expression were performed to study the signaling pathway activation of cancer cells after CHI3L1 treatment. Results M2 macrophage-secreted CHI3L1 promoted the metastasis of gastric and breast cancer cells in vitro and in vivo. The CHI3L1 protein functioned by interacting with interleukin-13 receptor α2 chain (IL-13Rα2) molecules on the plasma membranes of cancer cells. Activation of IL-13Rα2 by CHI3L1 triggered the activation of the mitogen-activated protein kinase signaling pathway, leading to the upregulated expression of matrix metalloproteinase genes, which promoted tumor metastasis. The results of this study indicated that the level of CHI3L1 protein in the sera of patients with gastric or breast cancer was significantly elevated compared with those of healthy donors. Conclusions Our study revealed a novel aspect of macrophages with respect to cancer metastasis and showed that CHI3L1 could be a marker of metastatic gastric and breast cancer in patients.

Working memory is a critical brain function for maintaining and manipulating information over delay periods of seconds. It is debated whether delay-period neural activity in sensory regions is important for the active maintenance of information during the delay period. Here, we tackle this question by examining the anterior piriform cortex (APC), an olfactory sensory cortex, in head-fixed mice performing several olfactory working memory tasks. Active information maintenance is necessary in these tasks, especially in a dual-task paradigm in which mice are required to perform another distracting task while actively maintaining information during the delay period. Optogenetic suppression of neuronal activity in APC during the delay period impaired performance in all the tasks. Furthermore, electrophysiological recordings revealed that APC neuronal populations encoded odor information in the delay period even with an intervening distracting task. Thus, delay activity in APC is important for active information maintenance in olfactory working memory.

Virus infection can change host's metabolism, while tumorigenesis results from metabolic disorder. MicroRNAs (miRNAs), crucial regulatory factors overlaying transcriptional control mechanisms, can guide metabolic homeostasis. In terms of metabolic disorder, antiviral miRNAs may have anti-tumor activity. However, this issue has not been extensively investigated. In the present study, the results revealed that shrimp mja-miR-35, which showed antiviral activity in shrimp against white spot syndrome virus (WSSV) infection, could suppress the metastasis of breast cancer by targeting human CHI3L1 gene of M2 macrophages in a cross-phylum manner. Furthermore, the feed expressing shrimp mja-miR-35 had antiviral capacity in shrimp and anti-tumor activity in humans, leading to the simultaneous control of virus infection and tumor progression. Therefore, our findings indicated that the antiviral miRNAs derived from shrimp stress responses against virus infection might be an important source of human anti-tumor drugs and miRNAs could bridge the control of aquaculture diseases and the prevention of human tumors.

Understanding neuronal mechanisms of learned behaviors requires efficient behavioral assays. We designed a high-throughput automatic training system (HATS) for olfactory behaviors in head-fixed mice. The hardware and software were constructed to enable automatic training with minimal human intervention. The integrated system was composed of customized 3D-printing supporting components, an odor-delivery unit with fast response, Arduino based hardware-controlling and data-acquisition unit. Furthermore, the customized software was designed to enable automatic training in all training phases, including lick-teaching, shaping and learning. Using HATS, we trained mice to perform delayed non-match to sample (DNMS), delayed paired association (DPA), Go/No-go (GNG), and GNG reversal tasks. These tasks probed cognitive functions including sensory discrimination, working memory, decision making and cognitive flexibility. Mice reached stable levels of performance within several days in the tasks. HATS enabled an experimenter to train eight mice simultaneously, therefore greatly enhanced the experimental efficiency. Combined with causal perturbation and activity recording techniques, HATS can greatly facilitate our understanding of the neural-circuitry mechanisms underlying learned behaviors.

During viral infection in vertebrates, cytokines play important roles in the host defense against the virus. However, the function of cytokines in invertebrates has not been well characterized. In this study, shrimp cytokines involved in viral infection were screened using a cytokine antibody microarray. The results showed that three cytokines, the Fas receptor (Fas), platelet factor 4 (PF4) and interleukin-22 (IL-22), were significantly upregulated in the white spot syndrome virus (WSSV)-challenged shrimp, suggesting that these cytokines played positive regulatory roles in the immune response of shrimp against the virus. Further experiments revealed that PF4 had positive effects on the antiviral immunity of shrimp by enhancing the shrimp phagocytic activity and inhibiting the apoptotic activity of virus-infected hemocytes. Therefore, our study presented a novel mechanism of cytokines in the innate immunity of invertebrates.

In this letter, we present a sapphire direct bonding method using plasma surface activation, hydrophilic pre-bonding, and high temperature annealing. Through the combination of sapphire inductively coupled plasma etching and the direct bonding process, a vacuum-sealed cavity employable for high temperature applications is achieved. Cross-sectional scanning electron microscopy (SEM) research of the bonding interface indicates that the two sapphire pieces are well bonded and the cavity structure stays intact. Moreover, the tensile testing shows that the bonding strength of the bonding interface is in excess of 7.2 MPa. The advantage of sapphire direct bonding is that it is free from the various problems caused by the mismatch in the coefficients of thermal expansion between different materials. Therefore, the bonded vacuum-sealed cavity can be potentially further developed into an all-sapphire pressure sensor for high temperature applications.

Social-Emotional Competency (SEC), regarded as a critical psychological resource for individuals to adapt to social environments, is an effective protective factor for students' mental health, impacting their future success and well-being. Analyzing the impact of SEC on university students' mental health can offer valuable insights for nurturing talents with healthy psychological and physical development. Based on data from two large-scale surveys of Chinese university students, this study designed two comprehensive Multiple Mediation Models involving SEC, stress, coping strategies, and stress reaction to explore the pathway of emotion nurturing mentality. Study 1 utilized a parallel mediation model to examine the relationships between SEC, academic stress, interpersonal stress, and stress reactions. The results indicated that SEC negatively predicted academic stress, interpersonal stress, and stress reactions. Additionally, academic and interpersonal stress mediated the relationships between SEC and stress reactions in parallel. Extending these findings, Study 2 further investigated the role of coping strategies. By constructing a multiple-chain mediation model, it examined the predictive relationships among SEC, academic stress, interpersonal stress, three types of coping strategies, and stress reactions. The findings indicated that SEC negatively predicted stress, problemavoiding strategy, and stress reactions, while positively predicting problem-solving and assistant-seeking strategies. Furthermore, the two stress types and three coping strategies significantly mediated the relationship between SEC and stress reactions. This indicated that higher SEC was associated with reduced stress and more adaptive coping strategies and subsequently contributed to more favorable stress reactions. This research explored the impact of university students' SEC on mental health and its relational mechanisms, aiming to provide theoretical reference and practical insights for future efforts in cultivating SEC among university students to adjust academic and interpersonal stress, to enhance problem-solving and stress resistance capabilities, and to maintain their mental health.
