Abstract Superwetting aerogel is a promising alternative for the remediation of emulsified oily wastewater for its high porosity combined with extreme wettability enabled high separation performances to emulsion wastewater. However, it remains challenging for superwetting aerogels to accomplish high-performance dual separation to surfactant-stabilized oil-in-water (O/W) and water-in-oil (W/O) emulsions with high stability. Herein, an environmentally benign superamphiphilic composite aerogel was prepared by a green synthesis route that relied on the utilization of natural amphiphilic biomass. Collagen fibers (CFs) were utilized to construct the three-dimensional (3D) supramolecular skeleton of aerogel to provide high storage capacity of water/oil and outstanding capillary effect to boost the mass transfer. The two-dimensional (2D) lamellar structure of gelatin (Gel) was further grown on the skeleton of CFs aerogel to play the role for simultaneously enhanced demulsifying capability and spreading of emulsions. The as-prepared superamphiphilic aerogel enabled the separation of highly stable surfactant-stabilized O/W and W/O emulsions with high separation efficiency and flux. Excellent recycling performances and anti-fouling performance were also confirmed. Our investigations therefore demonstrated that the structural engineering of superamphiphilic aerogel is a promising way to realize high-performance dual separation of surfactant-stabilized O/W and W/O emulsion wastewater. Abstract Background Exploring the molecular mechanisms of primordial germ cell (PGC) migration and the involvement of gonadal somatic cells in gonad development is valuable for comprehending the origins and potential treatments of reproductive-related diseases. Methods Diaphanous related formin 1 (Diaph1 , also known as mDia1) was screened by analyzing publicly available datasets (ATAC-seq, DNase-seq, and RNA-seq). Subsequently, the CRISPR-Cas9 technology was used to construct Diaph1 knockout mice to investigate the role of Diaph1 in gonad development. Results Based on data from public databases, a differentially expressed gene Diaph1, was identified in the migration of mouse PGC. Additionally, the number of PGCs was significantly reduced in Diaph1 knockout mice compared to wild type mice, and the expression levels of genes related to proliferation (Dicer1, Mcm9), adhesion (E-cadherin, Cdh1), and migration (Cxcr4, Hmgcr, Dazl) were significantly decreased. Diaph1 knockout also inhibited Leydig cell proliferation and induced apoptosis in the testis, as well as granulosa cell apoptosis in the ovary. Moreover, the sperm count in the epididymal region and the count of ovarian follicles were significantly reduced in Diaph1 knockout mice, resulting in decreased fertility, concomitant with lowered levels of serum testosterone and estradiol. Further research found that in Diaph1 knockout mice, the key enzymes involved in testosterone synthesis (CYP11A1, 3β-HSD) were decreased in Leydig cells, and the estradiol-associated factor (FSH receptor, AMH) in granulosa cells were also downregulated. Conclusions Overall, our findings indicate that the knockout of Diaph1 can disrupt the expression of factors that regulate sex hormone production, leading to impaired secretion of sex hormones, ultimately resulting in damage to reproductive function. These results provide a new perspective on the molecular mechanisms underlying PGC migration and gonadal development, and offer valuable insights for further research on the causes, diagnosis, and treatment of related diseases.

Recently, a Schwarz crystal structure with curved grain boundaries (GBs) constrained by twin-boundary (TB) networks was discovered in nanocrystalline Cu through experiments and atomistic simulations. Nanocrystalline Cu with nanosized Schwarz crystals exhibited high strength and excellent thermal stability. However, the grain-size effect and associated deformation mechanisms of Schwarz nanocrystals remain unknown. Here, we performed large-scale atomistic simulations to investigate the deformation behaviors and grain-size effect of nanocrystalline Cu with Schwarz crystals. Our simulations showed that similar to regular nanocrystals, Schwarz nanocrystals exhibit a strengthening-softening transition with decreasing grain size. The critical grain size in Schwarz nanocrystals is smaller than that in regular nanocrystals, leading to a maximum strength higher than that of regular nanocrystals. Our simulations revealed that the softening in Schwarz nanocrystals mainly originates from TB migration (or detwinning) and annihilation of GBs, rather than GB-mediated processes (including GB migration, sliding and diffusion) dominating the softening in regular nanocrystals. Quantitative analyses of simulation data further showed that compared with those in regular nanocrystals, the GB-mediated processes in Schwarz nanocrystals are suppressed, which is related to the low volume fraction of amorphous-like GBs and constraints of TB networks. The smaller critical grain size arises from the suppression of GB-mediated processes.

Abstract Background Postoperative delirium (POD) and cognitive dysfunction (POCD) are common complications following thoracic surgery, particularly in patients aged 65 years and above. These complications can significantly affect recovery and increase healthcare costs. This study investigates the effects of low-dose S-ketamine on reducing POD and POCD in this patient demographic. Methods In this retrospective cohort study, medical records of patients aged ≥ 65 years who underwent elective thoracic surgery from January 2019 to August 2023 were reviewed. Patients were categorized into S-ketamine and Control groups based on intraoperative S-ketamine exposure. POD was assessed using the Confusion Assessment Method (CAM), while cognitive function was evaluated using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) at baseline, 1 week, 1 month, and 6 months post-surgery. Intraoperative and postoperative parameters, including hemodynamic stability, blood loss, pain scores, and ICU stay length, were also recorded. Abstract Constrained multiobjective optimization problems (CMOPs) are widespread in reality. The presence of constraints complicates the feasible region of the original problem and increases the difficulty of problem solving. There are not only feasible regions, but also large areas of infeasible regions in the objective space of CMOPs. Inspired by this, this paper proposes a bidirectional coevolution method with reverse search (BCRS) combined with a two-stage approach. In the first stage of evolution, constraints are ignored and the population is pushed toward promising regions. In the second stage, evolution is divided into two parts, i.e., the main population evolves toward the constrained Pareto front (CPF) within the feasible region, while the reverse population approaches the CPF from the infeasible region. Then a solution exchange strategy similar to weak cooperation is used between the two populations. The experimental results on benchmark functions and real-world problems show that the proposed algorithm exhibits superior or at least competitive performance compared to other state-of-the-art algorithms. It demonstrates BCRS is an effective algorithm for addressing CMOPs. Graphical Abstract

Macrophages are important for maintaining tissue homeostasis and defending against pathogens in periodontal tissues. However, these tissues are often vulnerable to damage due to local inflammatory responses within the host tissues. This study aimed to investigate the role of G protein-coupled receptor 91(GPR91) during the inflammatory response to Porphyromonas gingivalis (P. gingivalis) in bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMDMs). To this end, we examined expression levels of GPR91 genes in human periodontal tissues affected by periodontitis. Utilizing primary mouse BMDMs from wild-type (WT) and GPR91 knockout (GPR91−/−) mice infected with P. gingivalis, we demonstrated that GPR91 accumulates in inflamed gingival tissues. Additionally, P. gingivalis can induce intercellular succinate accumulation, inflammatory mediator generation, reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, lipid peroxidation, and superoxide dismutase activity in WT-BMDMs. Moreover, inhibition of GPR91 by the specific inhibitor 4C as well as knockdown of GPR91 reduced inflammation and oxidative stress in P. gingivalis-infected BMDMs. Furthermore, we discovered that GPR91-mediated inflammation in P. gingivalis-infected BMDMs is activated via the Erk/Nuclear Factor-κB pathway. These findings provide new insights into the metabolic pathogenesis of periodontal inflammation.

As the flow rate can vary significantly among diverse oceanic regions, it is imperative to design the flow sensors in accordance with the intended measurement flow range or resolution. In this paper, we propose a bio-inspired optical flow sensor prototype based on the enhanced Vernier effect, which allows to design sensor materials and parameters depending on desired measuring range and resolution. The sensor model takes inspiration from the hair cells of fish, utilizing embedded Fabry-Perot interferometers besides cupula as the enhanced Vernier effect sensory element to boost the deflection signal of the protruding cupula caused by water flow. The optical spectra of the Vernier signal, under varying FP cavity parameters, are presented to exhibit the characteristics of the sensing element. This can assist in guiding the selection of sensor parameters. This article also highlights the directional sensing capabilities of the vector flow sensor. Furthermore, four different models, each with their designated materials and parameters, have been presented. These models showcase the ability to measure velocities on either directions of different ranges, from small to large, within specific ranges of 0 m/s - 0.05 m/s and 0 m/s – 0.9 m/s. The proposed sensor can be utilized as a model for marine vector flow sensing, which can be designed according to the desired flow range and sensitivity.

The rumen ciliates are a diverse group of protozoa residing in the rumen of ruminant animals. They are primarily found in the orders Entodiniomorphida and Vestibuliferida, playing crucial roles in the digestion and breakdown of feed within the host's rumen, closely intertwined with the host's nutrient absorption. In vitro monocultures of representatives of rumen ciliates are important to better study them. So far, Entodinium caudatum and Epidinium caudatum, representatives of the order Entodiniomorphida, have been successfully cultivated as a monoculture in vitro. However, for the order Vestibuliferida, no representative species has been established a stable monoculture in vitro up to date, which hampers to study their physiology and metabolism. Therefore, we have developed a simple method for the in vitro cultivation of Dasytricha ruminantium, a representative rumen ciliate in the order Vestibuliferida. Utilizing an optimized culture medium with easily obtainable components, and the cultivation process is simple. This will facilitate further research in metabolism and other studies requiring large pure live materials. 1. Filtration and separation for enriching D. ruminantium. 2. This study investigated whether 10058-F4, a small molecule inhibitor of the c-Myc gene, could play a corresponding inhibitory role in the vascular proliferation process. Background There have been some shifts in the frequency and distribution of biopsy-proven renal diseases in China over recent years. The aim of the study was to investigate the changing spectrum of renal diseases from the view of kidney biopsy data in a single center of China.Methods and results A total of 10,996 cases of native renal biopsies from patients aged ≥15 years old in Huashan Hospital, Fudan University, between 2008 and 2018 were analyzed retrospectively. The results showed that primary glomerular nephropathy (PGN) remained the most common biopsy-proven renal disease (69.42% of total), with IgA nephropathy (IgAN) accounting for 44.40% of PGN, membranous nephropathy (MN) for 28.55%, minimal change disease (MCD) for 13.26% and focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) for 8.00%. During the study period, the proportion of MN in PGN appeared an increasing tendency, while that of IgAN and MCD remained stable and that of FSGS showed a decline. Secondary glomerular nephropathy (SGN) constituted 21.54% of total cases, among which the leading two diseases were lupus nephritis (LN) and Henoch-Schonlein purpura nephritis (HSN) which accounted for 41.08% and 19.11% respectively.Conclusions The 11-year retrospective study revealed that PGN was the predominant histologic diagnosis among patients undergoing renal biopsy and the most frequent type of PGN remained to be IgAN, followed by MN which increased dramatically.

Electronic waste (e-waste) has increased because of the rapid replacement of electrical and electronic equipment. Owing to the increased emphasis on the dual properties of environmental contamination and metal resources, accurate identification of the e-waste recycling process is crucial. In this study, a product-level material flow analysis (MFA) is performed from a macroscopic social flow of waste TV sets in order to demonstrate the material metabolism of regional e-waste recycling. Previous studies have focused on the estimation of the quantity of e-waste generated or analyzing the overall amount of recycled resource output, the results derived from the estimation may have some unreliability, and our bottom-up research investigates the material flows that occur between the generation, collection and recycling of e-waste. MFA based on questionnaires and field research present accurate quantities and proportions of the recycling process. The results reveal that accelerating the construction of regional e-waste recycling systems and data networks and accurately identifying e-waste source, flow, and destination are required in order to improve resource efficiency toward carbon neutrality.

IntroductionSarcopenia, an age-related disease, has become a major public health concern, threatening muscle health and daily functioning in older adults around the world. Changes in the gut microbiota can affect skeletal muscle metabolism, but the exact association is unclear. The richness of gut microbiota refers to the number of different species in a sample, while diversity not only considers the number of species but also the evenness of their abundances. Alpha diversity is a comprehensive metric that measures both the number of different species (richness) and the evenness of their abundances, thereby providing a thorough understanding of the species composition and structure of a community.MethodsThis meta-analysis explored the differences in intestinal microbiota diversity and richness between populations with sarcopenia and non-sarcopenia based on 16 s rRNA gene sequencing and identified new targets for the prevention and treatment of sarcopenia. PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Google Scholar databases were searched for cross-sectional studies on the differences in gut microbiota between sarcopenia and non-sarcopenia published from 1995 to September 2023 scale and funnel plot analysis assessed the risk of bias, and performed a meta-analysis with State v.15. 1.ResultsA total of 17 randomized controlled studies were included, involving 4,307 participants aged 43 to 87 years. The alpha diversity of intestinal flora in the sarcopenia group was significantly reduced compared to the non-sarcopenia group: At the richness level, the proportion of Actinobacteria and Fusobacteria decreased, although there was no significant change in other phyla. At the genus level, the abundance of f-Ruminococcaceae; g-Faecalibacterium, g-Prevotella, Lachnoclostridium, and other genera decreased, whereas the abundance of g-Bacteroides, Parabacteroides, and Shigella increased.DiscussionThis study showed that the richness of the gut microbiota decreased with age in patients with sarcopenia. Furthermore, the relative abundance of different microbiota changed related to age, comorbidity, participation in protein metabolism, and other factors. Periodontitis is an inflammatory disease characterized by the destruction of periodontal tissues, and the promotion of bone tissue regeneration is the key to curing periodontitis. Psoralen is the main component of Psoralea corylifolia Linn, and has multiple biological effects, including anti-osteoporosis and osteogenesis. We constructed a novel hydrogel loaded with psoralen (PSO) and stromal cell-derived factor-1 (SDF-1) for direct endogenous cell homing. This study aimed to evaluate the synergistic effects of PSO/SDF-1 on periodontal bone regeneration in patients with periodontitis. The results of CCK8, alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity assay, and Alizarin Red staining showed that PSO/SDF-1 combination treatment promoted cell proliferation, chemotaxis ability, and ALP activity of PDLSCs. qRT-PCR and western blotting showed that the expression levels of alkaline phosphatase (ALP), dwarf-associated transcription factor 2 (RUNX2), and osteocalcin (OCN) gene were upregulated. Rat periodontal models were established to observe the effect of local application of the composite hydrogel on bone regeneration. These results proved that the PSO/SDF-1 combination treatment significantly promoted new bone formation. The immunohistochemical (IHC) results confirmed the elevated expression of ALP, RUNX2, and OCN osteogenic genes. PSO/SDF-1 composite hydrogel can synergistically regulate the biological function and promote periodontal bone formation. Thus, this study provides a novel strategy for periodontal bone regeneration.

BackgroundNicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) is a critical coenzyme involved in kidney disease, yet its regulation in diabetic kidney disease (DKD) remains inadequately understood.ObjectiveTherefore, we investigated the changes of NAD+ levels in DKD and the underlying mechanism.MethodsAlternations of NAD+ levels and its biosynthesis enzymes were detected in kidneys from streptozotocin-induced diabetic mouse model by real-time PCR and immunoblot. The distribution of NAD+ de novo synthetic enzymes was explored via immunohistochemical study. NAD+ de novo synthetic metabolite was measured by LC-MS. Human data from NephroSeq were analyzed to verify our findings.ResultsThe study showed that NAD+ levels were decreased in diabetic kidneys. Both mRNA and protein levels of kynurenine 3-monooxygenase (KMO) in NAD+ de novo synthesis pathway were decreased, while NAD+ synthetic enzymes in salvage pathway and NAD+ consuming enzymes remained unchanged. Further analysis of human data suggested KMO, primarily expressed in the proximal tubules shown by our immunohistochemical staining, was consistently downregulated in human diabetic kidneys.ConclusionOur study demonstrated KMO of NAD+ de novo synthesis pathway was decreased in diabetic kidney and might be responsible for NAD+ reduction in diabetic kidneys, offering valuable insights into complex regulatory mechanisms of NAD+ in DKD.

BackgroundPreeclampsia (PE) is one of the most common hypertensive diseases, affecting 2%-8% of all pregnancies. The high maternal and fetal mortality rates of PE are due to a lack of early identification of affected pregnant women that would have led to closer monitoring and care. Recent data suggest that misfolded proteins might be a promising biomarker for PE prediction, which can be detected in urine samples of pregnant women according to their congophilia (aggregated) characteristic. ObjectiveThe main purpose of this trial is to evaluate the value of the urine congophilia-based detection of misfolded proteins for the imminent prediction of PE in women presenting with suspected PE. The secondary objectives are to demonstrate that the presence of urine misfolded proteins correlates with PE-related maternal or neonatal adverse outcomes, and to establish an accurate PE prediction model by combining misfolded proteins with multiple indicators. MethodsAt least 300 pregnant women with clinical suspicion of PE will be enrolled in this prospective cohort study. Participants should meet the following inclusion criteria in addition to a suspicion of PE: ≥18 years old, gestational week between 20+0 and 33+6, and single pregnancy. Consecutive urine samples will be collected, blinded, and tested for misfolded proteins and other PE-related biomarkers at enrollment and at 4 follow-up visits. Clinical assessments of PE status and related complications for all participants will be performed at regular intervals using strict diagnostic criteria. Investigators and participants will remain blinded to the results. Follow-up will be performed until 42 days postpartum. Data from medical records, including maternal and fetal outcomes, will be collected. The performance of urine misfolded proteins alone and combined with other biomarkers or clinical variables for the prediction of PE will be statistically analyzed. ResultsEnrollment started in July 2023 and was still open upon manuscript submission. As of March 2024, a total of 251 eligible women have been enrolled in the study and enrollment is expected to continue until August 2024. Results analysis is scheduled to start after all participants reach the follow-up endpoint and complete clinical data are collected. ConclusionsUpon completion of the study, we expect to derive an accurate PE prediction model, which will allow for proactive management of pregnant women with clinical suspicion of PE and possibly reduce the associated adverse pregnancy outcomes. The additional prognostic value of misfolded proteins is also expected to be confirmed. The rise of rural e-commerce, accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, has driven agricultural development, resulting in a dual-channel model that combines offline supermarket docking with online e-commerce direct sales. Furthermore, given the perishable nature of most agricultural products, consumers exhibit a preference for high-quality logistics services. This paper analyses the dynamics of the agricultural supply chain, beginning with the “leading enterprises + farmers” production mode, and establishes two optimal decision-making models for online and offline dual-channel agricultural supply chains, incorporating logistics service levels. The first model considers centralised decision-making, where leading agricultural producers and community superstores make decisions simultaneously, aiming to maximise the overall profit of the supply chain. The second model addresses decentralised decision-making in which the producer, as the dominant player in a Stackelberg game, anticipates the reactions of retailers and sets the wholesale price, online sales price, and online logistics service level accordingly. Retailers, as followers, then determine the offline sales price and offline logistics service level based on the producer’s decisions. Finally, we conduct a sensitivity analysis of the proposed models. Our findings reveal that as consumer focus on logistics service levels increases, the overall profit of the supply chain improves, and as the unit logistics cost corresponding to the level of logistics service increases, the marginal benefits of decreasing profit brought about by the increase in unit logistics cost also decrease.

FeCo2O4/MoS2 binary composite catalysts were prepared by the hydrothermal method and calcination method. In this paper, the morphology and structure of the materials were characterized by means of SEM, EDS, XRD, and XPS. It was found that MoS2 has high activity and good stability in HER, and and it has more prospect than noble metal catalysts. In oxygen evolution chemical kinetics, its rich redox potential allowed it to adsorb OH− on (Co2+/Co3+, Fe2+/Fe3+) and enhanced the activity of OER. The cross-nanosheet structure of the FeCo2O4/MoS2 composite catalyst exposed more catalytic sites and accelerated charge transfer to achieve more efficient mass transfer. FeCo2O4/MoS2 as an anode and cathode was assembled into a two-electrode system in overall water splitting, which showed good catalytic activity. When the composite ratio of FeCo2O4 to MoS2 was 1:0.3, the composite catalyst had the best catalytic activity. The results show that when FeCo2O4/MoS2 is used as a cathode and anode to assemble an alkaline cell, respectively, the voltage for total water electrolysis is 1.59 V at a current density of 10 mA cm−2 in a 1 M KOH electrolyte, it can keep good stability in a 10 h test with electrolyzed water, and its current retention rate is 98.5%.

Microstructures have been proved as crucial factors for the sensing performance of flexible pressure sensors. In this study, polypyrrole (PPy)/sunflower pollen (SFP) (P/SFP) was prepared via the in situ growth of PPy on the surface of degreased SFP with a sea urchin-like microstructure; then, these P/SFP microspheres were sprayed onto a flat silk cocoon (FSC) to prepare a sensing layer P/SFP-FSC. PPy-FSC (P-FSC) was prepared as an electrode layer through the in situ polymerization of PPy on the FSC surface. The sensing layer P/SFP-FSC was placed between two P-FSC electrode layers to assemble a P/SFP-FSC pressure sensor together with a fork finger electrode. With 6 mg/cm2 of optimized sprayed P/SFP microspheres, the prepared flexible pressure sensor has a sensitivity of up to 0.128 KPa−1 in the range of 0–13.18 KPa and up to 0.13 KPa−1 in the range of 13.18–30.65 KPa, a fast response/recovery time (90 ms/80 ms), and a minimum detection limit as low as 40 Pa. This fabricated flexible P/SFP-FSC sensor can monitor human motion and can also be used for the encrypted transmission of important information via Morse code. In conclusion, the developed flexible P/SFP-FSC pressure sensor based on microstructure modification in this study shows good application prospects in the field of human–computer interaction and wearable electronic devices.

The taxon Prolecithophora, which is closely related to the well-known clade Tricladida, is rarely studied, particularly in terms of molecular phylogeny and behavioral characteristics. In this study, we employed an integrative analysis of molecular phylogeny, histology, and ethology to describe a new marine species, Plagiostomum robusta A.Wang, sp. nov. of the order Prolecithophora. Additionally, we obtained its nearly complete mitogenome sequence with annotations of 12 protein-coding genes, two rRNA genes and 22 tRNA genes. P. robusta is characterized by several features, including a pair of short tentacles, a terminal mouth and a terminal gonopore, a large variable pharynx, two extended front ends of the intestine, paired testes located behind the ovaries and outside the vitellaria, a muscular and movable distal sac, and a long tubular penis surrounded by a sheath. The phylogenetic analysis, based on 18S rDNA and 28S rDNA, revealed that the new species formed a clade with six Plagiostomum flatworms, indicating a close kinship with Plagiostomum. Despite contradictions between the traditional morphological classification system and the results of molecular phylogenetics, we chose to assign the new species to Plagiostomum based on comprehensive considerations. Moreover, our study has provided more insights into the behavioral features of Plagiostomidae species, as we found that P. robusta fed on other flatworms and engaged in cannibalism, and unexpectedly it mated via hypodermic inpregnation. This study represents the first comprehensive description of the reproductive behavior of Plagiostomidae species, contributing to the more in-depth understanding of the biological characteristics of this group.

Grounded in the cultural context of Chinese filial piety, this study employs structural equation model to analyze survey data from elderly participants. It explores the effect and path of progeny-parents family travel on the elderly's sense of well-being and examines the mediating roles of generational interaction, optimistic emotion, and psychological resilience. The findings indicate that progeny-parents family travel positively influences the well-being of the elderly, with generational interaction, optimistic emotion, and psychological resilience serving as intermediary roles. Theoretically, this study enriches the localized perspective of family travel's psychological and behavioral impact on the elderly. It elucidates the spillover effects of family travel within the framework of filial piety culture, delineates the mechanisms by which family travel enhances elderly well-being, and offers theoretical insights for businesses to develop customized family travel products and services.

Abstract Background The application of virtual reality (VR) in gastroscopic operation teaching can be safe and effective, but the advantages can be realized only when students accept and use it. This study aims to identify the factors influencing Chinese clinical medical postgraduates on their intention to use the 3D gastroscopic model constructed based on VR technology using Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model. Students’ demographic factors are also taken into consideration. Methods All methods were carried out in accordance with relevant guidelines. Data were collected from clinical medical postgraduates students in China using stratified sampling. A total of 292 questionnaires including valid responses were used in this study. Data were processed using Amos 24.0 and SPSS 26.0 software and the statistical analysis technique was based on structural equation modeling (SEM). Results The results showed that different from the mediator of home location and year of clinical learning, mediator of gender, university kind and graduate degree did not affect the behavioral intention. In addition, performance expectancy, facilitating condition, and social influence directly and indirectly have effect on behavioral intention. Also, the significance between social influence and performance expectancy, social influence and effort expectancy were verified. Conclusions This study manifested that the proposed framework based on the UTAUT had explanatory power to identify the factors influencing the students’ behavioral intention to use the 3D gastroscopic model constructed based on VR technology. Whereas, an important variable of effort expectancy in the frame of the SEM were not certified, thereby indicating that particular attention should be paid to this variable by universities and teachers before applying 3D gastroscopic model constructed based on VR technology in teaching. Added preparatory work is required such as explaining the basic knowledge of the operating steps of VR model and make students adequately understand its accessibility, which can probably improve the intentions of them to use it. The positive effects of social influence on performance expectancy and effort expectancy we proposed was also verified in this study, which provided a direction for future research.

Abstract Genomically-informed therapy requires consideration of the functional impact of genomic alterations on protein expression and/or function. However, a substantial number of variants are of unknown significance (VUS). The MD Anderson Precision Oncology Decision Support (PODS) team developed an actionability classification scheme that categorizes VUS as either “Unknown” or “Potentially” actionable based on their location within functional domains and/or proximity to known oncogenic variants. We then compared PODS VUS actionability classification with results from a functional genomics platform consisting of mutant generation and cell viability assays. 106 (24%) of 438 VUS in 20 actionable genes were classified as oncogenic in functional assays. Variants categorized by PODS as Potentially actionable (N = 204) were more likely to be oncogenic than those categorized as Unknown (N = 230) (37% vs 13%, p = 4.08e-09). Our results demonstrate that rule-based actionability classification of VUS can identify patients more likely to have actionable variants for consideration with genomically-matched therapy.

Due to the impact of global environment and climate change, determining how to ensure food production and reduce food loss has become an important research topic for many countries, especially developing countries, and can provide key information for China’s grain harvest management. This article mainly examines the impact of harvesting period on rice yield, the existence of latent losses, and their management value. From 2019 to 2022, our team conducted experiments on the growth curve of rice grains, plants, and populations to investigate the existence of latent losses by establishing the relationship between the standard moisture weight and the days after heading. The results showed that the weight of the rice gradually decreased as the harvest time was delayed, and there were latent losses, of which the dry matter loss was about 3.5%. With the addition of grain shattering loss, the latent loss rate was about 7.0%. In summary, if rice management is strengthened, including harvesting at the optimal time, 4.67% of the loss can be recovered. The timing of the harvest significantly impacts rice yield. Understanding the process and causes of new types of rice losses, increasing the basis for judging the timely harvest period, and providing the best management measures can prevent the post-harvest losses caused by traditional methods and increase the amount of fertile land available.

Titanium silicon molecular zeolite (TS-1) plays an important role in catalytic reactions due to its unique nanostructure. The straight channel on TS-1 was parallel to the orientation of the short b-axis and directly exposed to the aperture of the 10-member ring with a diameter of 0.54 nm × 0.56 nm. This structure could effectively reduce the diffuse restriction of bulk organic compounds during the oxidative desulfurization process. As a kind of cationic polymer electrolyte, polydimethyldiallyl ammonium chloride (PDDA) contains continuous [C8H16N+Cl−] chain segments, in which the Cl− could function as an effective structure-directing agent in the synthesis of nanomaterials. The chain of PDDA could adequately interact with the [0 1 0] plane in the preparation process of zeolite, and then the TS-1 nanosheet with short b-axis thickness (6 nm) could be obtained. The pore structure of the TS-1 nanosheet is controlled by regulating the content of PDDA. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), N2 physical adsorption analysis, infrared absorption spectrum and ultraviolet–visible spectrum were used to determine the TS-1. The thinner nanosheets exhibit excellent catalytic performance in oxidative desulfurization of dibenzothiophene (DBT), in which the removal rate could remain at 100% after three recycles. Here, the TS-1 nanosheet with short b-axis thickness has a promising future in catalytic reactions.

To enhance the precision of evaluating the operational status of SF6 high-voltage circuit breakers (HVCBs) and devise judicious maintenance strategies, this study introduces an operational state assessment method for SF6 HVCBs grounded in the integrated data-driven analysis (IDDA) model. The relative degradation weight (RDW) is introduced as a metric for quantifying the relative significance of distinct indicators concerning the operational condition of SF6 HVCBs. A data-driven model, founded on critical factor stability (CFS), is formulated to convert environmental indicators into quantitative computations. Furthermore, an optimized fuzzy inference (OFI) system is devised to streamline the system architecture and enhance the processing speed of continuous indicators. Ultimately, the efficacy of the proposed model is substantiated through validation, and results from instance analyses underscore that the presented approach not only attains heightened accuracy in assessment compared to extant analytical methodologies but also furnishes a dependable foundation for prioritizing maintenance sequences across diverse components.

Aqueous electrolytes offer superior prospects for advanced energy storage. “Water-in-salt” (WIS) electrolytes exhibit a wide electrochemical stability window (ESW), but their low conductivity, high viscosity, and precipitation at low temperatures restrict their application. Herein, we report a novel localized “water-in-pyrrolidinium chloride” electrolyte (LWIP; 1 ​mol/L, N-propyl-N-methylpyrrolidinium chloride/(water and N,N-dimethylformamide, 1:4 by molality)) enabling high-voltage, low-temperature supercapacitors (SCs). The greatly improved ESW (3.451 ​V) is mainly attributed to the strong solvation between Cl− and water molecules, which broadens the negative stability. This water-binding mechanism is very different from that of a WIS electrolyte based on alkali metal salt. SCs using LWIP electrolytes not only yield a high operating voltage of 2.4 ​V and excellent capacity retention (82.8% after 15,000 cycles at 5 ​A ​g−1) but also operate stably at −20 ​°C. This work provides new approaches for the design and preparation of novel electrolytes.

Introduction: Lung function tests are valuable in assessing respiratory health and disease, and the Healthy China Initiative clearly states that people over 40 years of age should have a lung function test once a year. To explore the influence of propensity factors, ability factors, and need factors on lung function detection behaviors of middle-aged and elderly Chinese, the following studies are conducted. Method: A questionnaire was designed using Anderson's model, and multi-stage sampling was used to conduct a nationwide questionnaire survey based on geographical subdivisions and population distribution. Frequency and percentages were used for descriptive statistical analysis of lung function testing among middle-aged and elderly people in China, and chi-square tests and binary logistic regression analyses were used to investigate the factors influencing lung function testing behavior among middle-aged and elderly people in China. Result: A total of 404 study participants were included in this study. Abstract Cancer stem cells (CSCs) cause tumor metastasis and immune evasion by as-yet-unknown molecular mechanisms. In the present study, we identify a long noncoding RNA (lncRNA), termed PVT1, which is highly expressed in CSCs and correlated closely with lymph node metastasis of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). PVT1 inhibition eliminates CSCs, prevents metastasis, and stimulates anti-tumor immunity, while inhibiting HNSCC growth. Moreover, PVT1 inhibition promotes the infiltration of CD8+ T cells into the tumor microenvironment, thereby enhancing immunotherapy by PD1 blockade. Mechanistically, PVT1 inhibition stimulates the DNA damage response, which induces CD8+ T cell-recruiting chemokines, while preventing CSCs and metastasis via regulating the miR-375/YAP1 axis. In conclusion, targeting PVT1 might potentiate the elimination of CSCs via immune checkpoint blockade, prevent metastasis, and inhibit HNSCC growth.

Abstract Background Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) are highly susceptible to cardiovascular disease, and coronary artery disease (CAD) is their leading cause of death. We aimed to assess whether computed tomography (CT) based imaging parameters and radiomic features of pericoronary adipose tissue (PCAT) can improve the diagnostic efficacy of whether patients with T2DM have developed CAD. Methods We retrospectively recruited 229 patients with T2DM but no CAD history (146 were diagnosed with CAD at this visit and 83 were not). We collected clinical information and extracted imaging manifestations from CT images and 93 radiomic features of PCAT from all patients. All patients were randomly divided into training and test groups at a ratio of 7:3. Four models were constructed, encapsulating clinical factors (Model 1), clinical factors and imaging indices (Model 2), clinical factors and Radscore (Model 3), and all together (Model 4), to identify patients with CAD. Receiver operating characteristic curves and decision curve analysis were plotted to evaluate the model performance and pairwise model comparisons were performed via the DeLong test to demonstrate the additive value of different factors. Abstract Background Competency-oriented medical education has become a global trend. However, most current studies focus on the independent effects of various competencies and lack an examination of the combined effects. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to explore the competency configurations of excellent pediatric residents and general pediatric residents and to provide a scientific reference for the talent training and career development of pediatric residents. Methods Behavioral event interviews were conducted with 23 pediatric residents at a children's hospital in Beijing in July and August 2019. Two researchers coded the interview data to summarize the competency of pediatric residents. The research group scored the performance of 23 pediatric residents in various aspects of competency and used the crisp-set qualitative comparative analysis method to explore the competency configurations of excellent pediatric residents and general pediatric residents. Results This study concludes that pediatric residents should have six core competencies: professional spirit, clinical skills, communication ability, learning ability, mental capacity and research ability. There are 4 combinations of competencies for becoming an excellent pediatric resident: the clinical type, scientific research type, all-around development type and high emotional intelligence type. In addition, there are 3 combinations of competencies for becoming a general pediatric resident: the comprehensive ability deficiency type, lack of professionalism and mental capacity type, lack of communication ability type. Conclusions There are differences in competence between excellent and general pediatric residents. Excellent pediatric residents do not need to possess all competencies but should specialize in clinical practice, scientific research or communication skills. This study suggests that training in mental capacity, professional spirit and communication ability should be strengthened during pediatric resident training. Pediatric residents should make career development plans according to their actual situation, and hospitals should arrange suitable positions according to the characteristics of pediatric residents.

To ensure a stable and reliable power supply, the valid and timely response of protective relays are indispensable. Through the prevention of fault expansions, potential equipment damage or system collapse can be averted, where their setting is one vital prerequisite for such effective implementations. However, the increasing complexity of distribution power systems results in more challenges for protection tuning strategies. Ergo, this paper presents an ensemble that combines the independent factor evaluation (IFE) and quantum genetic optimization (QGO) models to further optimize the performance of relays according to their distributed tuning environment. In this ensemble, both near and far-end fault characteristics can be incorporated. In the first stage, the IFE dimensional reduction model is deployed for massive heterogeneous input data, where the statistical independence of input signals is calculated, the linear transformation matrix to decouple mixed signals is found, the linear combination of such signals is formed, and the non-Gaussian property to sort them is established. This can ameliorate the following calculation efficiency under those high-dimensional data scenarios. Subsequently, the QGO model is designed to further improve relay settings, where qubit representation is built to reduce required chromosomes, the linear superposition of the optimal solution probability in different states is implemented for a better diversity and convergence performance, and a self-adaption quantum gate is established to dynamically update the qubit chromosome groups and two-state solution combinations. Lastly, an empirical case study is presented, which validates the enhanced convergence, accuracy, and rapidity of the proposed ensemble.

Carbon structures with sp ^2 – sp ^3 hybrid bonds were expected to exhibit both excellent mechanical and electronic properties. Here, we theoretically design several unique carbon structures, which contain unusual sp ^2 – sp ^3 hybrid bonds. We found that the introduction of sp ^2 bonding units into carbon structure with sp ^3 bonding can tune the electronic densities of state at Fermi level, especially resulting in 1D conductive channels in 3D structures. Further simulations indicate that Vickers hardness of these structures is close to diamond via the increase in sp ^3 building blocks. Our current work provides insights into the design of carbon structures with both excellent superhard and remarkably metallic properties.

Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) is a three-dimensional spinal deformity that is associated with low bone mineral density (BMD). Vitamin D (Vit-D) supplementation has been suggested to improve BMD in AIS, and its outcomes may be related to genetic factors. The present study aimed to (a) investigate the synergistic effect between a low BMD-related gene (wingless-related integration site 16, WNT16) and two important Vit-D pathway genes (Vit-D receptor, VDR, and Vit-D binding protein, VDBP) on serum Vit-D and bone qualities in Chinese AIS patients and healthy adolescents, and (b) to further investigate the effect of ablating Wnt16 on the cortical bone quality and whether diets with different dosages of Vit-D would further influence bone quality during the rapid growth phase in mice in the absence of Wnt16. A total of 519 girls (318 AIS vs. 201 controls) were recruited, and three selected single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) (WNT16 rs3801387, VDBP rs2282679, and VDR rs2228570) were genotyped. The serum 25(OH)Vit-D level was significantly associated with VDBP rs2282679 alleles (OR = −4.844; 95% CI, −7.521 to −2.167, p < 0.001). Significant multi-locus models were identified by generalized multifactor dimensionality reduction (GMDR) analyses on the serum 25(OH)Vit-D level (p = 0.006) and trabecular area (p = 0.044). In the gene-edited animal study, Wnt16 global knockout (KO) and wildtype (WT) male mice were provided with different Vit-D diets (control chow (1000 IU/Kg) vs. Vit-D-deficient chow (Nil in Vit-D) vs. high-dose Vit-D chow (20,000 IU/Kg)) from 4 weeks to 10 weeks old. Wnt16 global KO mice had significantly lower serum 25(OH)Vit-D levels and higher liver Vdbp mRNA expression levels than WT mice. In addition, Wnt16 global KO mice showed a decrease in bone density, cortical thickness and cortical area compared with WT mice. Interestingly, high-dose Vit-D chow led to lower bone density, cortical thickness, and cortical area in WT mice, which were less obvious in Wnt16 global KO mice. In conclusion, WNT16 may regulate the serum 25(OH)Vit-D level and bone qualities, which might be associated with VDBP expression. Further investigations with a larger sample size and wider spectrum of scoliosis severity are required to validate our findings regarding the interaction between WNT16 and Vit-D status in patients with AIS.

Objective Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) due to Alzheimer's disease (AD), as an early stage of AD, is an important point for early warning of AD. Neuropathological studies have shown that AD pathology in pre-dementia patients involves the hippocampus and caudate nucleus, which are responsible for controlling cognitive mechanisms such as the spatial executive process (SEP). The aim of this study is to design a new method for early warning of MCI due to AD by dynamically evaluating SEP. Methods We designed fingertip interaction handwriting digital evaluation paradigms and analyzed the dynamic trajectory of fingertip interaction and image data during “clock drawing” and “repetitive writing” tasks. Extracted fingertip interaction digital biomarkers were used to assess participants’ SEP disorders, ultimately enabling intelligent diagnosis of MCI due to AD. A cross-sectional study demonstrated the predictive performance of this new method. Results We enrolled 30 normal cognitive (NC) elderly and 30 MCI due to AD patients, and clinical research results showed that there may be neurobehavioral differences between the two groups in digital biomarkers captured during SEP. The early warning performance for MCI due to AD of this new method (areas under the curve (AUC) = 0.880) is better than that of the Minimum Mental State Examination (MMSE) neuropsychological scale (AUC = 0.856) assessed by physicians. Conclusion Patients with MCI due to AD may have SEP disorders, and this new method based on dynamic evaluation of SEP will provide a novel human–computer interaction and intelligent early warning method for home and community screening of MCI due to AD.

IntroductionEarly recovery of donor-derived invariant natural killer T (iNKT) cells are associated with reduced risk of graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) and overall survival. Patients with severe GvHD, however, had much slower iNKT cell reconstitution relative to conventional T cells.MethodsTo characterize the delay of iNKT cell reconstitution and explore its possible causes, we used a haploidentical bone marrow transplantation (haplo-BMT) mouse model with GvHD. We found the delayed recovery of thymic and peripheral iNKT cell numbers with markedly decreased thymic NKT1 subset in GvHD mice. The defective generation of thymic iNKT precursors with egress capability contributed to the reduced peripheral iNKT cells in GvHD mice. We further identified intermediate NK1.1- NKT1 precursor subpopulations under steady-state conditions and found that the differentiation of these subpopulations was impaired in the thymi of GvHD mice. Detailed characterization of iNKT precursors and thymic microenvironment showed a close association of elevated TCR/co-stimulatory signaling provided by double positive thymocytes and macrophages with defective down-regulation of proliferation, metabolism, and NKT2 signature in iNKT precursor cells. Correspondingly, NKT2 but not NKT1 differentiation was favored in GvHD mice.DiscussionThese data underline the important roles of TCR and co-stimulatory signaling in the differentiation of thymic iNKT subsets under transplantation conditions.

Ebola virus (EBOV) infection leads to staggeringly high mortality rate. Effective and low-cost treatments are urgently needed to control frequent EBOV outbreaks in Africa. In this study, we report that a natural compound called berbamine hydrochloride strongly inhibits EBOV replication in vitro and in vivo. Our work further showed that berbamine hydrochloride acts by directly binding to the cleaved EBOV glycoprotein (GPcl), disrupting GPcl interaction with viral receptor Niemann-Pick C1, thus blocking the fusion of viral and cellular membranes. Our data support the probability of developing anti-EBOV small molecule drugs by targeting viral GPcl. More importantly, since berbamine hydrochloride has been used in clinic to treat leukopenia, it holds great promise of being quickly repurposed as an anti-EBOV drug.

Abstract Background Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) is a new syndrome with some clinical manifestations similar to Kawasaki disease (KD), which is difficult to distinguish. Objective The study aimed to characterize the demographic characteristics, clinical characteristics, laboratory features, cardiac complications, and treatment of MIS-C compared with KD. Study design Studies were selected by searching the PubMed, EMBASE and so on before February 28, 2022. Statistical analyses were performed using Review Manager 5.4 software and STATA 14.0. Results Fourteen studies with 2928 participants were included. MIS-C patients tended to be older and there was no significant difference in the sex ratio. In terms of clinical characteristics, MIS-C patients were more frequently represented with respiratory, gastrointestinal symptoms and shock. At the same time, they had a lower incidence of conjunctivitis than KD patients. MIS-C patients had lower lymphocyte counts, platelet (PLT) counts, erythrocyte sedimentation rates (ESRs), alanine transaminase (ALT), and albumin levels and had higher levels of aspartate transaminase (AST), N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-pro-BNP), troponin, C-reactive protein (CRP), D-dimer, fibrinogen, ferritin, and creatinine. MIS-C patients had a higher incidence of left ventricle (LV) dysfunction, valvular regurgitation, pericardial effusion, myocarditis, and pericarditis. The incidence of coronary artery lesion (CAL) was lower in MIS-C patients [OR (95% CI): 0.52 (0.29, 0.93), p =0.03], while it was similar in the acute period. MIS-C patients had higher utilization of glucocorticoids (GCs) and lower utilization of intravenous immune globulin (IVIG). Conclusions There were specific differences between MIS-C and KD, which might assist clinicians with the accurate recognition of MIS-C and further mechanistic research.

Investigation on how nature produces natural compounds with chemical and biological diversity at the genetic level offers inspiration for the discovery of new natural products and even their biological targets. The polyketide rumbrin (1) is a lipid peroxide production and calcium accumulation inhibitor, which contains a chlorinated pyrrole moiety that is a rare chemical feature in fungal natural products. Here, we identify the biosynthetic gene cluster (BGC) rum of 1 and its isomer 12E-rumbrin (2) from Auxarthron umbrinum DSM3193, and elucidate their biosynthetic pathway based on heterologous expression, chemical complementation, and isotopic labeling. We show that rumbrins are assembled by a highly reducing polyketide synthase (HRPKS) that uniquely incorporates a proline-derived pyrrolyl-CoA starer unit, and followed by methylation and chlorination. Sequent precursor-directed biosynthesis was able to yield a group of rumbrin analogues. Remarkably, inspired by the presence of a human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-Nef-associated gene in the rum cluster, we predicted and pharmacologically demonstrated rumbrins as potent inhibitors of HIV at the nanomolar level. This work enriches the recognition of unconventional starter units of fungal PKSs and provides a new strategy for genome mining-guided drug discovery.

Abstract Perinatal brain injury is a leading cause of death and disability in children. Hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy in full term infants, and white matter injury in premature infants are most known brain injury in perinatal period. Human umbilical cord blood mononuclear cells contain hematopoietic stem cells, mesenchymal stem cells, endothelial progenitor cells, lymphocytes, monocytes, and so on. Human umbilical cord blood mononuclear cells have many biological functions, such as nerve and vascular regeneration, anti-apoptosis, anti-inflammation, and immune regulation. Human umbilical cord blood mononuclear cells transplantation has achieved significant efficacy and safety in animal and clinical trials for the treatment of perinatal brain injury. We will review human umbilical cord blood mononuclear cells transplantation for perinatal brain injury in this review.

Abstract The green total factor productivity (GTFP) has become an important index of balancing the energy consumptions, economic development, and environmental protections. This study extends the slacks‐based directional distance function (SDDF) of Fare and Grosskopf into the framework of the Malmquist–Luenberger productivity index to estimate the slack‐based GTFP. This SDDF can allow decision‐making units to explore the optimal direction and measure a more precise productivity index. For the empirical study, we employ the new model to measure the slack‐based GTFP for Chinese 30 provinces over the period of 2005–2017. Furthermore, we investigate the effect of the regional differences on the GTFP and the convergence of the Chinese GTFP with β‐converge and σ‐convergence. Our results show that there is a rapid improvement in the GTFP in China, which is attributed to the technical change. However, there exists a significant difference in GTFP for three regions of China. The eastern region performs significantly better than the others. Finally, we find there is a strong convergence in China, and the eastern region has a faster convergence than the other regions.

Abstract Renal fibrosis is a common consequence of various progressive nephropathies, including obstructive nephropathy, and ultimately leads to kidney failure. Infiltration of inflammatory cells is a prominent feature of renal injury after draining blockages from the kidney, and correlates closely with the development of renal fibrosis. However, the underlying molecular mechanism behind the promotion of renal fibrosis by inflammatory cells remains unclear. Herein, we showed that unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO) induced Gasdermin D (GSDMD) activation in neutrophils, abundant neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) formation and macrophage-to-myofibroblast transition (MMT) characterized by α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) expression in macrophages. Gsdmd deletion significantly reduced infiltration of inflammatory cells in the kidneys and inhibited NETs formation, MMT and thereby renal fibrosis. Chimera studies confirmed that Gsdmd deletion in bone marrow-derived cells, instead of renal parenchymal cells, provided protection against renal fibrosis. Further, specific deletion of Gsdmd in neutrophils instead of macrophages protected the kidney from undergoing fibrosis after UUO. Single-cell RNA sequencing identified robust crosstalk between neutrophils and macrophages. In vitro, GSDMD-dependent NETs triggered p65 translocation to the nucleus, which boosted the production of inflammatory cytokines and α-SMA expression in macrophages by activating TGF-β1/Smad pathway. In addition, we demonstrated that caspase-11, that could cleave GSDMD, was required for NETs formation and renal fibrosis after UUO. Collectively, our findings demonstrate that caspase-11/GSDMD-dependent NETs promote renal fibrosis by facilitating inflammation and MMT, therefore highlighting the role and mechanisms of NETs in renal fibrosis.

Abstract Spin‐state transitions are an important research topic in complex oxides with the diverse magnetic states involved. In particular, the low‐spin to high‐spin transition in LaCoO3 thin films has drawn a wide range of attention due to the emergent ferromagnetic state. Although various mechanisms (e.g., structural distortion, oxygen‐vacancy formation, spin‐state ordering) have been proposed, an understanding of what really underlies the emergent ferromagnetism remains elusive. Here, the ferromagnetism in LaCoO3 thin films is systematically modulated by varying the oxygen pressure during thin‐film growth. Although the samples show dramatic different magnetization, their cobalt valence state and perovskite crystalline structure remain almost unchanged, ruling out the scenarios of both oxygen‐vacancy and spin‐ordering. This work provides compelling evidence that the tetragonal distortion due to the tensile strain significantly modifies the orbital occupancy, leading to a low‐spin to high‐spin transition with emergent ferromagnetism, while samples grown at reduced pressure demonstrate a pronounced lattice expansion due to cation‐off‐stoichiometry, which suppresses the tetragonal distortion and the consequent magnetization. This result not only provides important insight for the understanding of exotic ferromagnetism in LaCoO3 thin films, but also identifies a promising strategy to design electronic states in complex oxides through cation‐stoichiometry engineering.

The altered expression of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) is associated with human carcinogenesis. We performed a high-throughput analysis of lncRNA expression in strictly selected pairs of metastatic head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) and non-metastatic HNSCC samples. We identified a novel lncRNA, which was highly expressed in metastatic HNSCC, named Metastasis Associated Squamous Cell Carcinoma 1 (MASCC1), for further study. Using qRT-PCR, we further compared MASCC1 expression in 60 HNSCC samples. The results show that high expression of MASCC1 in patients with HNSCC was related to poor prognosis. In vitro, MASCC1 knockdown (KD) inhibited HNSCC proliferation, migration, invasion, and tumor sphere formation, while promoting apoptosis. In vivo, MASCC1 KD inhibited HNSCC growth and lymph node metastasis. Mechanistically, MASCC1 acted as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) by binding to miR-195, subsequently regulating the expression of Cyclin D1, BCL-2, and YAP1. Moreover, miR-195 overexpression rescued the effects of MASCC1 on the biological behaviors of HNSCC. Taken together, our results suggest that MASCC1 is a novel oncogene that can predict the prognosis of patients with HNSCC and is a potential therapeutic target for HNSCC intervention.

This paper investigates the AUV region-tracking control problem with measurement noise and transient and steady-state constraints. To achieve the fluctuation of AUV tracking error within an expected region while satisfying the transient and steady-state performance constraints, this paper proposes an improved nonlinear tracking error transformation method. This method converts the tracking error into a new virtual error variable through nonlinear conversion, thus transforming the above performance requirements for the tracking error into boundedness requirements for the new virtual error variable. In addition, aiming at the problem of measurement noise causing strong fluctuation of the control signal, this paper proposes a finite-time AUV control method based on a two-stage command filter. This method utilizes a finite-time sliding mode differentiator to filter the virtual control signal during the derivation of the control law using the backstepping technique. In light of the signal loss incurred by two-stage filtering and its potential impact on system stability, a finite-time compensator is designed to compensate the signal loss and achieve finite-time stability of the closed-loop system. Finally, simulations conducted using ODIN AUV demonstrate that the proposed method exhibits smooth control signal and low energy consumption characteristics. Furthermore, the tracking error meets the requirements for both transient and steady-state performance, as well as regional tracking.

Ocean currents, mechanical collisions and electronic damage can cause faults in an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV), including sensors and thrusters. For such problems, this paper designs a fault-tolerant controller that is independent of the results of the fault diagnosis. An adaptive reaching law is developed based on sliding mode control to shorten convergence times. For the chattering phenomenon, a weighted hyperbolic tangent function is adopted instead of the traditional sign function in sliding mode control. Simulations are carried out when thruster and sensor fail under the condition of ocean current disturbance, model uncertainty and sensor noise. Comparative simulation results show that the proposed method can accelerate the convergence speed of the state point and improve the trajectory tracking effect of the AUV. Consequently, the effectiveness of the proposed method is confirmed.

Tin oxide (SnO2) is a traditional gas-sensitive semiconductor with excellent response to various gases. However, its sensor performances are attenuated by the utility factor during gas diffusion in the sensing body. Therefore, the rational design of microstructure of devices is attractive and necessary because it may provide a sensible and controllable microstructure, which facilitates gas diffusion and inhibits the utility factor. Herein, the mesoporous tin oxide (MPTD) quantum dot thin film for H2S gas sensors is prepared by a facile route, which creates a mesoporous microstructure for thin films by the thermal decomposition of NH4Cl. The pore size of the thin films is controlled to be 19.36–40.13 nm. The mesoporous microstructure exhibits enhanced gas-sensing properties amounting to a 30-fold increase in response and 1/3 reduction in recovery time in H2S detection at room temperature (25 °C), with a limit of detection of 0.4 ppm. To determine the importance of sensor parameters such as pore size, film thickness, and grain size, an eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) algorithm model was developed to examine the feature importance of each parameter on the gas-sensing performance of the MPTD sensors. The visual illustration of parameter importance is revealed to facilitate the optimization of technical preparation parameters as well as the rational design of semiconductor gas sensors.

Abstract Bone densitometry revealed low bone mass in patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) and its prognostic potential to predict curve progression. Recent studies showed differential circulating miRNAs in AIS but their diagnostic potential and links to low bone mass have not been well-documented. The present study aimed to compare miRNA profiles in bone tissues collected from AIS and non-scoliotic subjects, and to explore if the selected miRNA candidates could be useful diagnostic biomarkers for AIS. Microarray analysis identified miR-96-5p being the most upregulated among the candidates. miR-96-5p level was measured in plasma samples from 100 AIS and 52 healthy girls. Our results showed significantly higher plasma levels of miR-96-5p in AIS girls with an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.671 for diagnostic accuracy. A model that was composed of plasma miR-96-5p and patient-specific parameters (age, body weight and years since menarche) gave rise to an improved AUC of 0.752. Ingenuity Pathway Analysis (IPA) indicated functional links between bone metabolic pathways and miR-96-5p. In conclusion, differentially expressed miRNAs in AIS bone and plasma samples represented a new source of disease biomarkers and players in AIS etiopathogenesis, which required further validation study involving AIS patients of both genders with long-term follow-up.
