BACKGROUND Normal posterior inferior cerebellar artery (PICA) anatomy is highly variable, but bihemispheric PICA crossing the midline to supply the vascular territory of bilateral cerebellar hemisphere is rare. Herein, the authors reported a rare case of ruptured aneurysm that was associated with bihemispheric PICA and successfully treated endovascularly. OBSERVATIONS A 46-year-old woman presented with sudden headache and loss of consciousness because of an intraventricular hemorrhage due to a ruptured aneurysm that was associated with the bihemispheric PICA. Angiography revealed that the aneurysm was located at the bifurcation between the bihemispheric PICA and the bilateral distal PICA. The ruptured aneurysm was successfully occluded using coil embolization, which preserved the parent artery with no procedural-related complication. LESSONS To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this was the first report of a ruptured aneurysm associated with bihemispheric PICA being successfully treated endovascularly. Aneurysm formation may be accelerated by hemodynamic stress and vascular fragility. For neurosurgeons and neurointerventionalists, it is important to understand the anatomical variation of PICA, especially bihemispheric PICA, which is a potential risk factor for a fatal stroke.

Food has great influence on our health, but at the same time it delights us. Food plays complexed role in our life because of these different aspects, thus dietary preferences should clearly show one's characteristics. However, since large food-intake record dataset was not obtained, very few researches have attacked analyzing people's dietary preferences statistically. Today, recording food-intake, or foodlogging, is becoming popular. There are several services help people do foodlogging in easier process, which enables us to gain access to the large foodlog dataset.In this paper, we focus on analysis of dietary preferences based on nutrition intake using foodlog dataset. We have found that clustering people by average nutrition intake per one meal gives fair result, which proves analyzing preference by nutrition as fair approach. We have also proposed a Bag-of-Words based method, Bag-of-Foods, to represent one's dietary preference feature, and shown that it certainly represents users' preference with richer expression than nutrition itself.

In this paper, we report the performance of room temperature operated mid-infrared light emitting diode (LED) with an InSb buffer layer and AlInSb active/barrier layers, which showed to be suitable for non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) gas sensing. Characterization of the LED was performed and we found that good carrier confinement and crystalline quality was responsible for its high performance. High efficiency light extraction was obtained by adopting backside emission architecture together with surface roughening treatment and TiO 2 anti-reflection coating. The fabricated AlInSb LED showed 75% higher power conversion efficiency when compared with a commercially available device. The developed LED, together with a commercially available infrared (IR) detector equipped with band-pass optical filter (AK9710, manufactured by Asahi Kasei Microdevices) were coupled into a mirror system forming a light path length of 80 mm, which was tested for CO 2 gas sensing. For a non-absorbing environment, sensor output of 8 nA was obtained by driving the LED with peak current of 100 mA and, by exposing the system at CO 2 concentration of 1000 ppm signal reduction due to absorbance around 12% was obtained.

A purpose of my research is to measure the vehicle speed with only single camera in the night. In order to do camera calibration for measurement of speed, some information of a situation are necessary. Generally, it is difficult to obtain these information from the picture taken in the night with camera. We developed auto image calibration for night. What need to do calibration and measure is only single camera. When a vehicle come to road, we can see some information of the picture by a headlight of vehicle. Therefore, this system gather the necessary information from a movie including coming vehicle for calibration. Then, this system calculates a parameter of homography by these information. By this homography, we can calculate the vehicle speed from the picture. And the measurement system is automatic completely. In this paper, we show the method of how to calculate the parameter of homography.

AlGaN/GaN metal–oxide–semiconductor heterostructure field-effect transistors (MOSHFETs) with Al2O3 gate oxide which was deposited by atomic layer deposition (ALD) were fabricated and their performance was then compared with that of AlGaN/GaN MOSHFETs with HfO2 gate oxide. The capacitance (C)–voltage (V) curve of the Al2O3/GaN MOS diodes showed a lower hysteresis and lower interface state density than the C–V curve of the HfO2/GaN diodes, indicating better quality of the Al2O3/GaN interface. The saturation of drain current in the ID–VGS relation of the Al2O3 AlGaN/GaN MOSHFETs was not as pronounced as that of the HfO2 AlGaN/GaN MOSHFETs. The gate leakage current of the Al2O3 MOSHFET was five to eight orders of magnitude smaller than that of the HfO2 MOSHFETs.

Penetrating brain injury(PBI)is very rare in Japan. Because there is a very wide variety of pathological condition of PBI, the guideline for the treatment of PBI has not been established yet. We report the unique case of PBI caused by a steel wire piece completely embedded in the brain parenchyma. A 75-year-old man was brought to the emergency department due to ocular injury caused by a steel wire piece. Neurological examination revealed only left visual disturbance. CT scan revealed a steel wire piece located intraparenchymally between the left frontal lobe and the ventricles, but digital subtraction angiography showed no significant vascular injury in the surrounding structures. We performed an open surgery and removed the steel wire piece. Because the steel wire piece was completely embedded in the brain, we used intraoperative X-ray fluoroscopy to choose a less invasive approach for the brain. The patient suffered no additional neurological deficit and no sign of cerebral infection or seizure after surgery. He was discharged after a 4-week administration of antibiotics. In most cases of PBI caused by low velocity injury, foreign bodies are not completely embedded in the brain except for remnants after surgical removal. This is the first report of low velocity PBI caused by a foreign body completely embedded in the brain.

In this information age, biometrics has been used in many fields in our social life. Face as a very important individual feature has been researched for a long time for individual authentication. It takes the advantage that can be captured from a long distance and can be performed without notifying the subject. But face is exposed almost publicly, and can be caught easily by other people, the problem that people take authentication illegally with other’s face photo is appeared. In order to prevent such a happening, detecting fake face input for face authentication by DCT with compensating the main spindle position of face is proposed here. In this paper the dynamic difference between real face and face photo has been studied. Simulation result shows that the proposed approach can distinguish the fake face input to prevent masquerading, either the face picture is fixed or moving which the previous research cannot do.

This research propose new method of auto image calibration for vehicle speed measurement using single camera. Image processing is used to discriminate vehicle and measure vehicle speed. However, in order to measure something by image processing, we must do camera calibration. Therefore, we developed auto image calibration to measure vehicle speed. This method need only single camera. This method use projective transformation with homography matrix. For obtaining homography matrix, more than four congruent points are necessary. We developed the algorithm which can calculate eight congruent points from the broken lines of road in image. If we use this new method, we can measure vehicle speed without manual process of camera calibration.

This research proposes a new vehicle speed measuring approach based on image processing technique. This approach is aimed to improve the vehicle speed measuring accuracy at night. Ordinarily, it is difficult to take a clear image at night by using a low profile digital camera. Thus the image based vehicle speed measuring system for dark environment was not developed by now. In this research, the disadvantage of low profile camera is used for speed measuring. By controlling the shutter speed of camera, a bright line comes from the headlamp of a moving vehicle is appeared in the picture. In this work, an algorithm depend on this feature is developed. Experiment result shows a reasonable measuring value.

Moreover, from even the image taken from the slant, the vehicle speed can be measured with a process of projective transformation. In this work, we developed an algorithm depend on this feature.
