Salted duck egg yolk, a key ingredient in various specialty foods in China, frequently contains broken eggshell fragments embedded in the yolk due to high-speed shell-breaking processes, which pose significant food safety risks. This paper presents an online detection method, YOLOv7-SEY-DeepSORT (salted egg yolk, SEY), designed to integrate an enhanced YOLOv7 with DeepSORT for real-time and accurate identification of salted egg yolks with impurities on production lines. The proposed method utilizes YOLOv7 as the core network, incorporating multiple Coordinate Attention (CA) modules in its Neck section to enhance the extraction of subtle eggshell impurities. To address the impact of imbalanced sample proportions on detection accuracy, the Focal-EIoU loss function is employed, adaptively adjusting bounding box loss values to ensure precise localization of yolks with impurities in images. The backbone network is replaced with the lightweight MobileOne neural network to reduce model parameters and improve real-time detection performance. DeepSORT is used for matching and tracking yolk targets across frames, accommodating rotational variations. Experimental results demonstrate that YOLOv7-SEY-DeepSORT achieves a mean average precision (mAP) of 0.931, reflecting a 0.53% improvement over the original YOLOv7. The method also shows enhanced tracking performance, with Multiple Object Tracking Accuracy (MOTA) and Multiple Object Tracking Precision (MOTP) scores of 87.9% and 73.8%, respectively, representing increases of 17.0% and 9.8% over SORT and 2.9% and 4.7% over Tracktor. Overall, the proposed method balances high detection accuracy with real-time performance, surpassing other mainstream object detection methods in comprehensive performance. Thus, it provides a robust solution for the rapid and accurate detection of defective salted egg yolks and offers a technical foundation and reference for future research on the automated and safe processing of egg products.

Abstract Isotopic mixtures result in distinct properties of materials such as thermal conductivity and nuclear process. However, the knowledge of isotopic interface remains largely unexplored mainly due to the challenges in atomic-scale isotopic identification. Here, using electron energy-loss spectroscopy in a scanning transmission electron microscope, we reveal momentum-transfer-dependent phonon behavior at the h−10BN/h-11BN isotope heterostructure with sub-unit-cell resolution. We find the phonons’ energy changes gradually across the interface, featuring a wide transition regime. Phonons near the Brillouin zone center have a transition regime of ~3.34 nm, whereas phonons at the Brillouin zone boundary have a transition regime of ~1.66 nm. We propose that the isotope-induced charge effect at the interface accounts for the distinct delocalization behavior. Moreover, the variation of phonon energy between atom layers near the interface depends on both of momentum transfer and mass change. This study provides new insights into the isotopic effects in natural materials.

Electrochemical double-layer capacitors (EDLCs) possess extremely high-power density and a long cycle lifespan, but they have been long constrained by a low energy density. Since the electrochemical stability of electrolytes is essential to the operating voltage of EDLCs, and thus to their energy density, the tuning of electrolyte components towards a high-voltage window has been a research focus for a long time. Organic electrolytes based on ionic liquids (ILs) are recognized as the most commercially promising owing to their moderate operating voltage and excellent conductivity. Despite impressive progress, the working voltage of IL–solvent electrolytes needs to be improved to meet the growing demand. In this review, the recent progress in the tuning of IL- based organic electrolyte components for higher-voltage EDLCs is comprehensively summarized and the advantages and limitations of these innovative components are outlined. Furthermore, future trends of IL–solvent electrolytes in this field are highlighted.

We report the highly efficient conversion of readily available biomass-derived polyols with amines to valuable furfurylamines or β-amino alcohols compounds using ruthenium catalysis. The reaction outcome is readily tuned by the simple addition of 4 ​Å molecular sieves (furfurylamines vs. β-amino alcohols) with high chemo-selectivity. The proposed reaction mechanism involves ruthenium-catalyzed hydrogen borrowing for the reduction of the imine intermediate and C–C bond cleavage of polyols via a retro-aldol process. A series of arylamines was successfully transformed into the desired products with moderate to good yields.

Co-catalysts decorations provide unique opportunity in promoting the photocatalytic water splitting performance of graphite carbon nitride (g-C3N4) system, while mechanistic understanding of this complex catalytic network remains elusive. Here, taking the single-atom-based photocatalysts (M1-g-C3N4) as an unprecedented simplified model system, we theoretically tracked the photocatalytic kinetics for a comprehensive understanding of the photocatalytic process and afforded the descriptor αS1-T1/αT1-S0 (ratio of the extent of S1-T1 and T1-S0 state mixing) and ΔGH∗ (hydrogen adsorpti on free energy) for rational screening of photocatalysts. The targeted Fe1-g-C3N4 yields an excellent H2 evolution rate (ca. 3.2 ⋅mmol·gcat−1·h−1 under full arc), two order of magnitude improvement relative to pristine g-C3N4 counterpart and also outperforms other representative 3d-transition-metal-based photocatalysts. This work presents a comprehensive understanding of the essential role of isolated atomic sites in the photocatalytic course and sheds light on the design of photocatalysts from both photophysical and photochemical aspects.

Our study focused on quantifying available forage and the conditions for avoiding predation provided within the home ranges of Siberian roe deer (Capreolus pygargus). We conducted transect surveys in both winter and summer–autumn home ranges of the Siberian roe deer in the Tieli Forestry Bureau of the Lesser Xing’an Mountains. Our results revealed significant differences: (1) In terms of the quantity and quality of available forage, the summer–autumn home range had substantially more available forage than the winter home range, with meadows and cornfields showing the highest edible biomass in each, respectively. In terms of forage quality, there were differences in hemicellulose, cellulose, and lignin content between the two ranges. (2) In terms of the conditions for avoiding predation, the winter home range had lower vegetation coverage and greater visibility, making escape strategies more viable. In contrast, the summer–autumn home range had denser vegetation and limited visibility, making hiding strategies more viable. Our study offers comprehensive insights into the available forage and the conditions for avoiding predation, which is crucial for wildlife conservation strategies and habitat management in the region, as it directly informs strategies that address the seasonal forage requirements and predation avoidance of these deer, ultimately enhancing their prospects for survival in the area.

In this paper, two reversible data hiding (RDH) methods for vector quantization (VQ)-compressed images are presented. In the first method, the difference-index table instead of the standard-index table is designed, and all difference indices are then classified into two groups, i.e., the to-be-mapped group and the candidate group, according to the occurrence frequencies of them. Afterwards, the mapping table between those two groups is adaptively constructed and used to serve for data embedding. Furthermore, another joint method is conducted by combining the standard-index based method and the difference-index based method, resulting in a better embedding performance. The experimental results confirm that both proposed methods, especially the joint method, are significantly superior to the most recent schemes in terms of the embedding capacity, bitrate and embedding rate.

In this article, the response characteristics of multicomponent induction logging (MCIL) tool in anisotropic formation are analyzed. To solve the 1-D MCIL problems, we use a planar layered anisotropic medium (PLAM) Green's function (PLAMGF) method which is derived from the layered-medium Green's function (LMGF) and combined with MCIL excitation source and anisotropic formation environment, and then use it to investigate the equivalence of the MCIL tool responses in two models, i.e. the microscopic thin interbed formation and macroscopic anisotropic formation, and also analyze the effects of shoulder bed and formation dip on MCIL tools. In addition, in order to solve the complex 3-D problems, such as the effects of borehole, tool eccentricity and invasion on the tool response, we use the finite element method (FEM) based on a proposed new meshing scheme to simulate and analyze. This new meshing scheme includes two aspects: the use of cylindrical hexahedron element and the flexible meshing strategy combined with domain decomposition. Finally, some key detection performances of coaxial coils and coplanar coils of MCIL tool are studied. Numerical experiments are conducted to prove the effectiveness of our proposed method and provide the detailed results of the aforementioned aspects.

Here, authors report that at high temperature graphene and α-Al2O3 substrate form a C-O-Al bond, having strong interactions, while interfacial structural relaxations of sapphire remain suppressed.

Habitat loss and fragmentation are serious threats to biodiversity worldwide. In order to promote animal movement and gene flow between habitat islands, it is important to identify and evaluate the ecological network of species. In Tieli Forestry Bureau (TFB) in Northeast China, we simulated and evaluated the ecological network of roe deer, aiming to provide theoretical support to population conservation. By using three sources of roe deer occurrence data and 15 environmental variables, we simulated the suitability of habitats using the Maximum Entropy Model (MaxEnt). Then, the corridor design model Linkage Mapper was used to identify and evaluate the linkages between habitat cores which are defined by the home range size of roe deer. The results showed that, of the terrain, land cover, vegetation, and anthropogenic interference factors, the anthropogenic interference factors played the most important and complex role in roe deer habitat selection, creating large-area suitable habitats by farming. Two innovative variables of farmland-forest edge length/patch perimeter (FFE:PP) and viewshed introduced in simulation contributed 8.5% and 2.3%, respectively. Surrounded by the unsuitable habitats, the suitable habitats mainly distributed along both sides of the river, covering 41.8% of the total area of TFB. The ecological network of roe deer was composed of 11 habitat cores and 17 linkages. Three linkages connecting the key habitat cores had low quality and linkage suitability ratios, which were probably due to barrier effect of the HeHa expressway intersecting with the linkages. Our study suggests the priority areas for protecting roe deer and the key locations where the wildlife road-crossing structures or animal guidance measures are needed.

Summary: Ortho-selective aromatic C-H functionalization is frequently used in organic synthesis and chemical/pharmaceutical industries. However, this reaction relies heavily on the use of directing groups suffering from limited substrate scope and extra steps to put on and remove the directing/protecting groups. Herein we present the previously neglected concept that enables good to nearly complete selective ortho position. Proton transfer was utilized to tune the electron density on the aryl ring and determine the positional selectivity of electrophilic substitution. Consistently with deuteration experiments and DFT studies, this work demonstrates that acid-promoted proton transfer directs accelerated ortho-selective halogenation of NH/OH contained aromatic amines/phenols with excellent selectivity (>40 examples; up to 98:2 ortho/para selectivity). The application potential of this Fe-catalyzed method is demonstrated by the convenient synthesis of three alkaloids and tizanidine. This report raises the possibility that proton transfer could serve as the basis of developing new selective C-H functionalization reactions.

Wetlands, as the most essential ecosystem, are degraded throughout the world. Wetlands in Zhenlai county, with the Momoge National Nature Reserve, which was included on the Ramsar list, have degraded by nearly 30%. Wetland degradation is a long-term continuous process with annual or interannual changes in water area, water level, or vegetation presence and growth. Therefore, it requires sufficiently frequent and high-spatial-resolution data to represent its dynamics. This study mapped yearly land-use maps with 30-m resolution from 1985 to 2018 using Landsat data in Google Earth Engine (GEE) to explore the wetland degradation process and mapped 12-day interval land-use maps with 15-m resolution using the Sentinel-1B and Sentinel-2 data in GEE and other assistant platforms to study the characteristics of wetland dynamics in 2018. Four sets of maps were generated using Sentinel-1B (S1), Sentinel-2 (S2), the combination of Sentinel-1B and Sentinel-2 (S12), and S12 with multitemporal remote sensing (S12’). All of the classifications were performed in the Random Forest Classification (RFC) method using remote sensing indicators. The results indicate that S12’ was the most accurate. Then, the impact of the historic land-use degradation process on current wetland change dynamics was discussed. Stable, degradation, and restoration periods were identified according to the annual changes in wetlands. The degraded, stable, restored, and vulnerable zones were assessed based on the transformation characteristics among wetlands and other land-use types. The impact of historical land-use trajectories on wetland change characteristics nowadays is diverse in land-use types and distributions, and the ecological environment quality is the comprehensive result of the effect of historical land-use trajectories and the amount of rainfall and receding water from paddy fields. This study offers a new method to map high-spatiotemporal-resolution land-use (S12’) and addresses the relationship between historic wetland change characteristics and its status quo. The findings are also applicable to wetland research in other regions. This study could provide more detailed scientific guidance for wetland managers by quickly detecting wetland changes at a finer spatiotemporal resolution.

In this study, we analyzed microbial community composition and the functional capacities of degraded sites and restored/natural sites in two typical wetlands of Northeast China—the Phragmites marsh and the Carex marsh, respectively. The degradation of these wetlands, caused by grazing or land drainage for irrigation, alters microbial community components and functional structures, in addition to changing the aboveground vegetation and soil geochemical properties. Bacterial and fungal diversity at the degraded sites were significantly lower than those at restored/natural sites, indicating that soil microbial groups were sensitive to disturbances in wetland ecosystems. Further, a combined analysis using high-throughput sequencing and GeoChip arrays showed that the abundance of carbon fixation and degradation, and ~95% genes involved in nitrogen cycling were increased in abundance at grazed Phragmites sites, likely due to the stimulating impact of urine and dung deposition. In contrast, the abundance of genes involved in methane cycling was significantly increased in restored wetlands. Particularly, we found that microbial composition and activity gradually shifts according to the hierarchical marsh sites. Altogether, this study demonstrated that microbial communities as a whole could respond to wetland changes and revealed the functional potential of microbes in regulating biogeochemical cycles.

It is necessary to estimate the population abundance of deer for managing their populations. However, most estimates are from high-density populations inhabiting the forests of North America or Europe; there is currently a lack of necessary knowledge regarding low-density deer populations in different forest habitats. In this article, we used fecal DNA based on the capture-mark-recapture method to estimate the population abundance of Siberian roe deer (Capreolus pygargus) in Liangshui National Nature Reserve in the Lesser Xing’an Mountains, northeast China, where the deer population was found to be of a low density by limited studies. We used a robust survey design to collect 422 fecal pellet groups in 2016 and extracted DNA from those samples, generating 265 different genotypes; we thus identified 77 deer individuals based on six microsatellite markers (Roe1, Roe8, Roe9, BM757, MB25 and OarFCB304). With capture and recapture records of these 77 individuals, the abundance of roe deer was estimated to be 87 deer (80–112, 95% CI) using the Program CAPTURE. Using an effective sampling area which resulted from the mean maximum recapture distance (MMRD), we converted the population abundance to a density of 2.9 deer/km2 (2.7–3.7, 95% CI). Our study estimated the roe deer population abundance by a feces-based capture-mark-recapture approach in northeast China, successfully demonstrating the applicability of non-invasive genetic sampling in monitoring populations of deer in this area, which contributes to the development of low-density deer population ecology and management.

Fire frequency and size are two important parameters describing fire characteristics. Exploring the spatial variation of fire characteristics and understanding the environmental controls are indispensable to fire prediction and sustainable forest landscape management. To illustrate the spatial variation of forest fire characteristics over China and to quantitatively determine the relative contribution of each of the environmental controls to this variation, forest fire characteristic data (mean number of forest fires and mean burned forest area) and environmental data (climate, land use, vegetation type and topography) at provincial level were derived. These data sets can potentially serve as a foundation for future studies relating to fire risk assessment, carbon emission by forest fires, and the impact of climate change on fire characteristics. This data article contains data related to the research article entitled “Environmental controls on the characteristics of mean number of forest fires and mean forest area burned (1987–2007) in China” by chang et al. [1].

Background. Understanding species distribution, especially areas of overlapping habitat between sympatric species, is essential for informing conservation through natural habitat protection. New protection strategies should simultaneously consider conservation efforts for multiple species that exist within the same landscape, which requires studies that include habitat overlap analysis. Methods. We estimated the potential habitat of cervids, which are typical ungulates in northern China, using the present locations of red deer (Cervus elaphus; N = 90) and roe deer (Capreolus capreolus; N = 106) in a Maximum Entropy (MaxEnt) model. Our study area was a human-dominated landscape in the Tieli Forestry Bureau located at the southern slope of the Lesser Xing’an Mountains. We grouped 17 environmental predictor variables into five predictor classes (terrain, habitat accessibility, land cover, vegetation feature, and interference), which were used to build habitat suitability models. Results. Habitat accessibility and human interferences were found to have the strongest influence on habitat suitability among the five variable classes. Among the environmental factors, distance to farmland (26.8%), distance to bush-grass land (14.6%), elevation (13.5%), and distance to water source (12.2%) were most important for red deer, distance to farmland (22.9%), distance to settlement (21.4%), elevation (11.6%), and coverage of shrub-grass (8%) were most important for roe deer. Model accuracy was high for both species (mean area under the curve (AUC) = 0.936 for red deer and 0.924 for roe deer). The overlapping habitat comprised 89.93 km2 within the study area, which occupied 94% of potentially suitable habitat for red deer and 27% for roe deer. Conclusions. In terms of habitat suitability, roe deer showed greater selectivity than red deer. The overlapping habitat was mostly located in the eastern mountains. The southwestern plain was not a suitable habitat for deer because it was close to Tieli City. Regarding management measures, we suggest that priority protection should be given to the potential areas of overlapping deer habitats found in this study.

Black carbon (BC) from incomplete combustion of biomass and fossil fuel is widespread in sediments and soils because of its high stability in nature and is considered an important component of the global carbon sink. However, knowledge of BC stocks and influencing factors in forest ecosystems is currently limited. We investigated soil BC contents in burned boreal forests of the Great Khingan Mountains, northeast China. We collected soil samples from 14 sites with different fire severities, slope positions and aspects. The samples were analyzed by the chemo-thermal oxidation method to obtain their BC concentrations. The BC concentrations of the studied soils ranged from 0.03 to 36.91 mg C g−1, with a mean of 1.44 ± 0.11 mg C g−1. BC concentrations gradually decline with depth, and that was significantly less in the 20–30 cm layer compared to all shallower layers. Forests burned by moderate-severity fires had the highest soil BC, the shady aspect had higher soil BC than the sunny aspect. Our results provide some basic data for evaluating the soil BC sink in boreal forests, which is a useful amendment to current carbon budget and carbon cycle in boreal forest ecosystems.

A precursor, C21H29NO8 (A1) was prepared by reactions of 1,1-dimethoxy-N,N-dimethylmethanamine and 1,5-dioxaspiro[5.5]undecane-2,4-dione. The new N-containing heterocyclic compound, C19H19NO4 (B1) was obtained by adding A1 into ethanol solution of o-toluidine. The crystal structure determination of two compounds were both found to belong to the triclinic P-1 space group. The precursor includes one (C2H8N)+ cation and one (C19H21O8)− anion, which constituted a chained structure by N–H···O intra- and intermolecular interactions. The title compound (B1) formed a 3D-network structure by weak C–H···O intermolecular interactions and π···π stacking interactions. The fluorescent behaviors of A1 and B1 in ethanol solution were discussed. The result shows that they exhibit blue and purplish blue emission, respectively.

STC1 is a glycoprotein hormone involved in calcium/phosphate (Pi) homeostasis. There is mounting evidence that STC1 is tightly associated with the development of cancer. But the function of STC1 in cancer is not fully understood. Here, we found that STC1 is down-regulated in Clinical tissues of cervical cancer compared to the adjacent normal cervical tissues (15 cases). Subsequently, the expression of STC1 was knocked down by RNA interference in cervical cancer CaSki cells and the low expression promoted cell growth, migration and invasion. We also found that STC1 overexpression inhibited cell proliferation and invasion of cervical cancer cells. Moreover, STC1 overexpression sensitized CaSki cells to drugs. Further, we showed that NF-κB p65 protein directly bound to STC1 promoter and activated the expression of STC1 in cervical cancer cells. Thus, these results provided evidence that STC1 inhibited cell proliferation and invasion through NF-κB p65 activation in cervical cancer.

Abstract Allergic rhinitis (AR) is a condition with limited treatment options. This study investigates the potential use of mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) nanovesicles as a novel therapy for AR. Specifically, the study explores the underlying mechanisms of MSC nanovesicle therapy by targeting dendritic cells (DCs). The researchers fabricated DC-targeted P-D2-EVs nanovesicles and characterized their properties. Transcriptomic sequencing and single-cell sequencing analyses were performed to study the impact of P-D2-EVs on AR mice, identifying core genes involved in the treatment. In vitro cell experiments were conducted to validate the effects of P-D2-EVs on DC metabolism, Th2 differentiation, and ILC2 activation. The results showed that P-D2-EVs efficiently targeted DCs. Transcriptomic sequencing analysis revealed differential expression of 948 genes in nasal tissue DCs of mice treated with P-D2-EVs. Single-cell sequencing further revealed that P-D2-EVs had inhibitory effects on DC activation, Th2 differentiation, and ILC2 activation, with Fut1 identified as the core gene. Validation experiments demonstrated that P-D2-EVs improved IL10 metabolism in DCs by downregulating Fut1 expression, thereby suppressing Th2 differentiation and ILC2 activation. Animal experiments confirmed the inhibitory effects of P-D2-EVs and their ability to ameliorate AR symptoms in mice. The study suggests that P-D2-EVs reshape DC metabolism and suppress Th2 differentiation and ILC2 activation through the inhibition of the Fut1/ICAM1/P38 MAPK signaling pathway, providing a potential therapeutic approach for AR.
