Abstract Injection molding is a common plastic processing technique that allows melted plastic to be injected into a mold through pressure to form differently shaped plastic parts. In injection molding, in-mold electronics (IME) can include various circuit components, such as sensors, amplifiers, and filters. These components can be injected into the mold to form a whole within the melted plastic and can therefore be very easily integrated into the molded part. The brain–computer interface (BCI) is a direct connection pathway between a human or animal brain and an external device. Through BCIs, individuals can use their own brain signals to control these components, enabling more natural and intuitive interactions. In addition, brain–computer interfaces can also be used to assist in medical treatments, such as controlling prosthetic limbs or helping paralyzed patients regain mobility. Brain–computer interfaces can be realized in two ways: invasively and noninvasively, and in this paper, we adopt a noninvasive approach. First, a helmet model is designed according to head shape, and second, a printed circuit film is made to receive EEG signals and an IME injection mold for the helmet plastic parts. In the electronic film, conductive ink is printed to connect each component. However, improper parameterization during the injection molding process can lead to node displacements and residual stress changes in the molded part, which can damage the circuits in the electronic film and affect its performance. Therefore, in this paper, the use of the BCI molding process to ensure that the node displacement reaches the optimal value is studied. Second, the multistrategy differential evolutionary algorithm is used to optimize the injection molding parameters in the process of brain–computer interface formation. The relationship between the injection molding parameters and the actual target value is investigated through Latin hypercubic sampling, and the optimized parameters are compared with the target parameters to obtain the optimal parameter combination. Under the optimal parameters, the node displacement can be optimized from 0.585 to 0.027 mm, and the optimization rate can reach 95.38%. Ultimately, by detecting whether the voltage difference between the output inputs is within the permissible range, the reliability of the brain–computer interface after node displacement optimization can be evaluated.

Abstract In the era of 5 G, the rise in power density in miniaturized, flexible electronic devices has created an urgent need for thin, flexible, polymer-based electrically and thermally conductive nanocomposites to address challenges related to electromagnetic interference (EMI) and heat accumulation. However, the difficulties in establishing enduring and continuous transfer pathways for electrons and phonons using solid-rigid conductive fillers within insulative polymer matrices limit the development of such nanocomposites. Herein, we incorporate MXene-bridging-liquid metal (MBLM) solid-liquid bi-continuous electrical-thermal conductive networks within aramid nanofiber/polyvinyl alcohol (AP) matrices, resulting in the AP/MBLM nanocomposite with ultra-high electrical conductivity (3984 S/cm) and distinguished thermal conductivity of 13.17 W m−1 K−1. This nanocomposite exhibits excellent EMI shielding efficiency (SE) of 74.6 dB at a minimal thickness of 22 μm, and maintains high EMI shielding stability after enduring various harsh conditions. Meanwhile, the AP/MBLM nanocomposite also demonstrates promising heat dissipation behavior. This work expands the concept of creating thin films with high electrical and thermal conductivity.

Asymmetric ring-expansion reactions of silacyclobutanes (SCBs) with alkynes have evolved as one of the powerful protocols for the construction of silicon-stereogenic compounds. However, the achievement of highly enantioselective annulation of SCBs with terminal alkynes remains a challenge. Herein, we report a rhodium-catalyzed asymmetric annulation reaction of SCBs with terminal alkynes, which relies on the newly identified chiral sulfinamide phosphine ligand Ming-Phos. This catalytic system exhibits unique effects under mild conditions, leading to the direct synthesis of structurally diverse chiral silacycles in moderate to good yields with high enantioselectivities (up to 95% ee).

Abstract The E‐proteinoid 3 receptor (PTGER3), a member of the prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) subtype receptor, belongs to the G‐protein‐coupled superfamily of receptors. Animal studies have demonstrated its involvement in salt sensitivity by regulating sodium reabsorption. This study aimed to investigate the association between genetic variants of PTGER3 and salt sensitivity, longitudinal blood pressure (BP) changes, and the incidence of hypertension in Chinese adults. A chronic salt intake intervention was conducted involving 514 adults from 124 families in the 2004 Baoji Salt‐Sensitivity Study Cohort in northern China. These participants followed a 3‐day regular baseline diet, followed by a 7‐day low‐salt diet (3.0 g/d) and a 7‐day high‐salt diet (18 g/d), and were subsequently followed for 14 years. The findings revealed a significant relationship between the single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs17482751 of PTGER3 and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) response to high salt intervention. Additionally, SNPs rs11209733, rs3765894, and rs2268062 were significantly associated with longitudinal changes in systolic blood pressure (SBP), DBP, and mean arterial pressure (MAP) during the 14‐year follow‐up period. SNP rs6424414 was significantly associated with longitudinal changes in DBP over 14 years. Finally, SNP rs17482751 showed a significant correlation with the incidence of hypertension over 14 years. These results emphasize the significant role of PTGER3 gene polymorphism in salt sensitivity, longitudinal BP changes, and the development of hypertension in the Chinese population.

Background: Deep convolutional neural networks have garnered considerable attention in numerous machine learning applications, particularly in visual recognition tasks such as image and video analyses. There is a growing interest in applying this technology to diverse applications in medical image analysis. Automated three-dimensional Breast Ultrasound is a vital tool for detecting breast cancer, and computer-assisted diagnosis software, developed based on deep learning, can effectively assist radiologists in diagnosis. However, the network model is prone to overfitting during training, owing to challenges such as insufficient training data. This study attempts to solve the problem caused by small datasets and improve model detection performance. Methods: We propose a breast cancer detection framework based on deep learning (a transfer learning method based on cross-organ cancer detection) and a contrastive learning method based on breast imaging reporting and data systems (BI-RADS). Results: When using cross organ transfer learning and BIRADS based contrastive learning, the average sensitivity of the model increased by a maximum of 16.05%. Conclusion: Our experiments have demonstrated that the parameters and experiences of cross-organ cancer detection can be mutually referenced, and contrastive learning method based on BI-RADS can improve the detection performance of the model.

Abstract Gridization is an emerging molecular integration technology that enables the creation of multifunctional organic semiconductors through precise linkages. While Friedel-Crafts gridization of fluorenols is potent, direct linkage among fluorene molecules poses a challenge. Herein, we report an achiral Pd-PPh3-cataylized diastereoselective (>99:1 d.r.) gridization based on the C-H-activation of fluorene to give dimeric and trimeric windmill-type nanogrids (DWGs and TWGs). These non-conjugated stereo-nanogrids showcase intramolecular multiple H…H interactions with a low field shift to 8.51 ppm and circularly polarized luminescence with high luminescent dissymmetry factors (|g PL | = 0.012). Significantly, the nondoped organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) utilizing cis-trans-TWG1 emitter present an ultraviolet electroluminescent peak at ~386 nm (CIE: 0.17, 0.04) with a maximum external quantum efficiency of 4.17%, marking the highest record among nondoped ultraviolet OLEDs based on hydrocarbon compounds and the pioneering ultraviolet OLEDs based on macrocycles. These nanohydrocarbon offer potential nanoscafflolds for ultraviolet light-emitting optoelectronic applications.

Abstract In this paper, we consider a coupling mechanism between the kinetic term and the gravity, in which a coupling function F (R) is introduced into the kinetic term of the five-dimensional scalar field. Based on this scenario, we investigate the localization of scalar fields in three specific braneworld models: the Minkowski brane, the de Sitter brane, and the Anti-de Sitter brane. The brane models considered here are regular with no singularity for scalar curvature. For the Minkowshi brane case, the zero mode can always be localized on the brane, and the massive modes can be localized or quasi-localized on the brane. For the dS4 brane case, two forms of factor F (R) is considered. The zero mode can always be localized, and the massive modes could be quasi-localized on the brane. Besides, with the second coupling factor, the scalar zero mode could be localized on the both sides of the origin of extra dimension, while the massive modes could be quasi-localized on the origin. Lastly, for the AdS4 brane case, the localization of the scalar zero mode requires the consideration of a coupling potential V (Φ, φ), while the massive modes can still be localized on the brane with an infinite number.

Abstract Background To explore challenges of liquid-based cytology (LBC) specimens for next-generation sequencing (NGS) in lung adenocarcinoma and evaluate the efficacy of targeted therapy. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on the NGS test of 357 cases of advanced lung adenocarcinoma LBC specimens and compared with results of histological specimens to assess the consistency. The impact of tumor cellularity on NGS test results was evaluated. The utility of epidermal growth factor receptor-tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKIs) was collected. Clinical efficacy evaluation was performed and survival curve analysis was conducted using the Kaplan-Meier method. Results There were 275 TKI-naive and 82 TKI-treated specimens, the mutation rates of cancer-related genes detected in both groups were similar (86.2% vs. 86.6%). The EGFR mutation rate in the TKI treated group was higher than that in the TKI-naive group (69.5% > 54.9%, P = 0.019). There was no significant difference in the EGFR mutation frequency among different tumor cellularity in the TKI-naive group. Abstract Background Process approach is valuable for memory assessment in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and mild cognitive impairment (MCI), yet its underlying mechanisms remain elusive. This study aims to synergize the process approach with brain structure analysis to explore both the discriminative capacity and potential mechanisms underlying the process approach. Methods 37 subjects of MCI, 35 subjects of AD and 38 subjects of healthy control (HC) were included. The process approach in Auditory Verbal Learning Test (AVLT), including discriminability (A’), response bias (B"D), semantic clustering (LBCsem) and serial clustering (LBCser) was performed. The gray matter volume (GMV) was analyzed by voxel-based morphometry. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis and partial correlations were conducted to explore the value of the process approach and investigate the relationship between the process approach, traditional indices of AVLT and GMV. Results ROC analysis showed the value of A’, B"D and LBCser in differentiating MCI and AD. Combining AVLT-Immediately Recall (AVLT-IR) and LBCser showed a higher value in diagnosing MCI. Partial correlations revealed that in the MCI group, A’ and B"D were mainly positively associated with GMV of the hippocampus and temporal lobe. Conclusion This study indicated that the process approach is a promising cognitive biomarker to detect MCI and AD.

Objective: Accurate infant brain parcellation is crucial for understanding early brain development; however, it is challenging due to the inherent low tissue contrast, high noise, and severe partial volume effects in infant magnetic resonance images (MRIs). The aim of this study was to develop an end-to-end pipeline that enabled accurate parcellation of infant brain MRIs. Methods: We proposed an end-to-end pipeline that employs a two-stage global-to-local approach for accurate parcellation of infant brain MRIs. Specifically, in the global regions of interest (ROIs) localization stage, a combination of transformer and convolution operations was employed to capture both global spatial features and fine texture features, enabling an approximate localization of the ROIs across the whole brain. In the local ROIs refinement stage, leveraging the position priors from the first stage along with the raw MRIs, the boundaries of the ROIs are refined for a more accurate parcellation. Results: We utilized the Dice ratio to evaluate the accuracy of parcellation results. Results on 263 subjects from National Database for Autism Research (NDAR), Baby Connectome Project (BCP) and Cross-site datasets demonstrated the better accuracy and robustness of our method than other competing methods. Conclusion: Our end-to-end pipeline may be capable of accurately parcellating 6-month-old infant brain MRIs.

Abstract Image-based artificial intelligence (AI) systems stand as the major modality for evaluating ophthalmic conditions. However, most of the currently available AI systems are designed for experimental research using single-central datasets. Most of them fell short of application in real-world clinical settings. In this study, we collected a dataset of 1,099 fundus images in both normal and pathologic eyes from 483 premature infants for intelligent retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) system development and validation. Dataset diversity was visualized with a spatial scatter plot. Image classification was conducted by three annotators. To the best of our knowledge, this is one of the largest fundus datasets on ROP, and we believe it is conducive to the real-world application of AI systems.

Abstract Background Marfan syndrome (MFS) is an autosomal dominant connective tissue disease with wide clinical heterogeneity, and mainly caused by pathogenic variants in fibrillin-1 (FBN1). Methods A Chinese 4-generation MFS pedigree with 16 family members was recruited and exome sequencing (ES) was performed in the proband. Transcript analysis (patient RNA and minigene assays) and in silico structural analysis were used to determine the pathogenicity of the variant. In addition, germline mosaicism in family member (Ι:1) was assessed using quantitative fluorescent polymerase chain reaction (QF-PCR) and short tandem repeat PCR (STR) analyses. Results Two cis-compound benign intronic variants of FBN1 (c.3464–4 A > G and c.3464-5G > A) were identified in the proband by ES. As a compound variant, c.3464-5_3464-4delGAinsAG was found to be pathogenic and co-segregated with MFS. RNA studies indicated that aberrant transcripts were found only in patients and mutant-type clones. The variant c.3464-5_3464-4delGAinsAG caused erroneous integration of a 3 bp sequence into intron 28 and resulted in the insertion of one amino acid in the protein sequence (p.Ile1154_Asp1155insAla). Structural analyses suggested that p.Ile1154_Asp1155insAla affected the protein’s secondary structure by interfering with one disulfide bond between Cys1140 and Cys1153 and causing the extension of an anti-parallel β sheet in the calcium-binding epidermal growth factor-like (cbEGF)13 domain. In addition, the asymptomatic family member Ι:1 was deduced to be a gonadal mosaic as assessed by inconsistent results of sequencing and STR analysis. Conclusions To our knowledge, FBN1 c.3464-5_3464-4delGAinsAG is the first identified pathogenic intronic indel variant affecting non-canonical splice sites in this gene. Our study reinforces the importance of assessing the pathogenic role of intronic variants at the mRNA level, with structural analysis, and the occurrence of mosaicism.

Abstract Blood orange (BO) is a rare red-fleshed sweet orange (SWO) with a high anthocyanin content and is associated with numerous health-related benefits. Here, we reported a high-quality chromosome-scale genome assembly for Neixiu (NX) BO, reaching 336.63 Mb in length with contig and scaffold N50 values of 30.6 Mb. Furthermore, 96% of the assembled sequences were successfully anchored to 9 pseudo-chromosomes. The genome assembly also revealed the presence of 37.87% transposon elements and 7.64% tandem repeats, and the annotation of 30,395 protein-coding genes. A high level of genome synteny was observed between BO and SWO, further supporting their genetic similarity. The speciation event that gave rise to the Citrus species predated the duplication event found within them. The genome-wide variation between NX and SWO was also compared. This first high-quality BO genome will serve as a fundamental basis for future studies on functional genomics and genome evolution.

Abstract Cotton has enormous economic potential, providing high-quality protein, oil, and fibre. But the comprehensive utilization of cottonseed is limited by the presence of pigment gland and its inclusion. Pigment gland is a common characteristic of Gossypium genus and its relatives, appearing as visible dark opaque dots in most tissues and organs of cotton plants. Secondary metabolites, such as gossypol, synthesized and stored in the cavities of pigment glands act as natural phytoalexins, but are toxic to humans and other monogastric animals. However, only a few cotton genes have been identified as being associated with pigment gland morphogenesis to date, and the developmental processes and regulatory mechanism involved in pigment gland formation remain largely unclear. Here, the research progress on the process of pigment gland morphogenesis and the genetic basis of cotton pigment glands is reviewed, for providing a theoretical basis for cultivating cotton with the ideal pigment gland trait.

Nitrite exposure has become a significant concern in the aquaculture industry, posing a severe threat to aquatic animals such as shrimp. While studies have reported the adverse effects of nitrite on shrimp growth, the part played by the gut microbiota in shrimp mortality resulting from nitrite exposure is poorly understood. Here, the effects of nitrite on shrimp gut bacterial community were investigated using 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing, bacterial isolation, genomic analysis, and infection experiments. Compared to the control_healthy group, changes in the bacterial composition of the nitrite_dead group were associated with reduced abundance of specific beneficial bacteria and increased abundance of certain pathogenic bacteria. Notably, members of the Photobacterium genus were found to be significantly enriched in the nitrite_dead group. Genomic analysis of a representative Photobacterium strain (LvS-8n3) revealed a variety of genes encoding bacterial toxins, including hemolysin, adhesin, and phospholipase. Furthermore, it was also found that LvS-8n3 exhibits strong pathogenicity, probably due to its high production of pathogenic factors and the ability to utilize nitrite for proliferation. Therefore, the proliferation of pathogenic Photobacterium species appears pivotal for driving shrimp mortality caused by nitrite exposure. These findings provide novel insights into the disease mechanism in shrimp under conditions of environmental change.

Medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA, Cn-3, 22:6) are essential in improving cognitive function and protecting neurocytes. This study explored the effects of the combined intervention of MCTs and DHA on inhibiting neurocyte apoptosis of the brain and improving cognitive function in senescence-accelerated mouse-prone 8 (SAMP8). Four-month-old male SAMP8 mice were randomly divided into four treatment groups (12 mice/group): DHA, MCT, DHA + MCT, and control groups, which intervened for seven months. Twelve age-matched male senescence-accelerated mouse resistant 1 (SAMR1) was used as the natural aging group. TUNEL assay and HE staining were used to assess neurocyte apoptosis and damage in the brain of mice. Moreover, the cognitive function was analyzed using the Morris water maze (MWM) and open field (OF) tests. The results showed that the cognitive function of 11-month-old SAMP8 mice decreased with age, and further pathological examination revealed the damaged neurocyte structure, karyopyknosis, cell atrophy, and even apoptosis. MCTs combined with DHA supplementation could increase octanoic acid (C8:0), decanoic acid (C10:0), and DHA levels in the serum, inhibit neurocyte apoptosis, improve neurocyte damage, moreover delay age-related cognitive decline after seven-month treatment. Furthermore, combining MCTs and DHA was significantly more beneficial than MCTs or DHA alone. In conclusion, MCTs combined with DHA could delay cognitive decline by inhibiting neurocyte apoptosis of the brain in SAMP8 mice.

Fieldbus transmitters are commonly used in modern industrial productions, particularly in Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS). Safety and security are critical considerations in the design and operation of these transmitters. Previous research has tended to address safety issues and security issues separately, but with the increasing complexity of network technology, it is important to analyze them simultaneously. In this paper, a systematic framework for comprehensively analyzing random failures and cyber-attack failures is proposed. The framework adopts the FMEA-IMEA method, which combines Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Intrusion Modes and Effects Analysis (IMEA), to analyze failure modes and effects of fieldbus transmitters. In addition, by extending Reliability Block Diagrams (RBD), the impact of random failures and cyber-attack failures on fieldbus transmitters is quantitatively determined. At the same time, calculation approach of the residual error rate (RER), Component counting method, and Monte Carlo are used to determine random failure rate and cyber-attack failure rate. Using fieldbus pressure transmitter and fieldbus temperature transmitter as examples, the results demonstrate that security issues can significantly impact the safety integrity level. In fact, the safety integrity level is reduced from SIL3 to SIL1 when cyber-attacks are considered. Compared to existing FMEA, the proposed approach offers a more comprehensive analysis of random failures and cyber-attack failures in fieldbus transmitters.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) poses a significant threat to human health globally. It is crucial to develop a vaccine to reduce the effect of the virus on public health, economy, and society and regulate the transmission of SARS-CoV-2. Influenza B virus (IBV) can be used as a vector that does not rely on the current circulating influenza A strains. In this study, we constructed an IBV-based vector vaccine by inserting a receptor-binding domain (RBD) into a non-structural protein 1 (NS1)-truncated gene (rIBV-NS110-RBD). Subsequently, we assessed its safety, immunogenicity, and protective efficacy against SARS-CoV-2 in mice, and observed that it was safe in a mouse model. Intranasal administration of a recombinant rIBV-NS110-RBD vaccine induced high levels of SARS-CoV-2-specific IgA and IgG antibodies and T cell-mediated immunity in mice. Administering two doses of the intranasal rIBV-NS110-RBD vaccine significantly reduced the viral load and lung damage in mice. This novel IBV-based vaccine offers a novel approach for controlling the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.

Insufficient density of red deer has affected the stability of forest ecosystems and the recovery of large carnivores (represented by Amur tiger). Conservation translocations from captivity to the wild has become an important way to restore the red deer populations. However, the difference in gut microbes between pre-release and wild red deer may affect the feeding adaptability of red deer after release. In this study, we clarified the differences in gut microbes between pre-released and wild red deer and screened the key gut microbes of the red deer involved in feeding by using metagenomic sequencing and feeding analysis. The results showed that the microbial difference between pre-released and wild red deer was mainly related to Firmicutes represented by Eubacteriales and Clostridia, and Firmicutes abundance in pre-released red deer (68.23%) was significantly lower than that of wild red deer (74.91%, p 1), showing a significant positive correlation (p

Summary: The oxidative-stress-related protein Kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1 (KEAP1) is a substrate articulator of E3 ubiquitin ligase, which plays an important role in the ubiquitination modification of proteins. However, the function of KEAP1 in breast cancer and its impact on the survival of patients with breast cancer remain unclear. Our study demonstrates that KEAP1, a positive prognostic factor, plays a crucial role in regulating cell proliferation, apoptosis, and cell cycle transition in breast cancer. We investigate the underlying mechanism using human tumor tissues, high-throughput detection technology, and a mouse xenograft tumor model. KEAP1 serves as a key regulator of cellular metabolism, the reprogramming of which is one of the hallmarks of tumorigenesis. KEAP1 has a significant effect on mitochondrial biogenesis and oxidative phosphorylation by regulating HSPA9 ubiquitination and degradation. These results suggest that KEAP1 could serve as a potential biomarker and therapeutic target in the treatment of breast cancer.

Graph neural networks (GNNs) have gained significant attention in diverse domains, ranging from urban planning to pandemic management. Ensuring both accuracy and robustness in GNNs remains a challenge due to insufficient quality data that contains sufficient features. With sufficient training data where all spatiotemporal patterns are well-represented, existing GNN models can make reasonably accurate predictions. However, existing methods fail when the training data are drawn from different circumstances (e.g., traffic patterns on regular days) than test data (e.g., traffic patterns after a natural disaster). Such challenges are usually classified under domain generalization. In this work, we show that one way to address this challenge in the context of spatiotemporal prediction is by incorporating domain differential equations into graph convolutional networks (GCNs). We theoretically derive conditions where GCNs incorporating such domain differential equations are robust to mismatched training and testing data compared to baseline domain agnostic models. To support our theory, we propose two domain-differential-equation-informed networks: Reaction-Diffusion Graph Convolutional Network (RDGCN), which incorporates differential equations for traffic speed evolution, and the Susceptible-Infectious-Recovered Graph Convolutional Network (SIRGCN), which incorporates a disease propagation model. Both RDGCN and SIRGCN are based on reliable and interpretable domain differential equations that allow the models to generalize to unseen patterns. We experimentally show that RDGCN and SIRGCN are more robust with mismatched testing data than state-of-the-art deep learning methods.

Summary: Indole-3-propionic acid (IPA) is known to be a microbe-derived compound with a similar structure to the phytohormone auxin (indole-3-acetic acid, IAA). Previous studies reported that IPA exhibited auxin-like bioactivities in plants. However, the underlying molecular mechanism is not totally understood. Here, we revealed that IPA modulated lateral root (LR) development via auxin signaling in the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana. Genetic analysis indicated that deficiency of the TIR1/AFB-Aux/IAA-ARF auxin signaling pathway abolished the effects of IPA on regulating LR development. Further biochemical, transcriptomic profiling and cell biological analyses revealed that IPA directly bound to the TIR1/AFB-Aux/IAA coreceptor complex and thus activated downstream gene expression. Therefore, our work revealed that IPA is a potential signaling molecule that modulates plant growth and development by targeting the TIR1/AFB-Aux/IAA-mediated auxin signaling pathway, providing potential insights into root growth regulation in plants.

ObjectiveTo provide a reference for the diagnosis and treatment of ovarian steroid cell tumors, not otherwise specified (SCTs-NOS).MethodsWe retrospectively analyzed the clinicopathological data of three patients with SCTs-NOS admitted to the Tianjin Medical University General Hospital from 2012 to 2022 and reviewed literature reports related to this disease.ResultsA total of 3 cases in our center and 70 cases searched in literature reports were included. The age at diagnosis ranged from 3 to 93 years (median, 34 years). The common clinical manifestations were hirsutism, acne, deepened voice, clitoromegaly, amenorrhea, and excessive weight gain. Tumor sizes ranged from 1.2 to 45 cm, with an average diameter of 6.5cm. Most of SCTs-NOS were benign, but some of them exhibited malignant behavior. Surgery was the main treatment and close follow-up was required. The follow up time of 73 cases ranged from 3 to 132 months (median, 21.3 months). Disease recurrence or progression occurred in 14 cases (19.2%). Three of the 73 patients had a successful pregnancy.ConclusionSCTs-NOS usually occur in women of reproductive age, which are mainly manifested as androgen excess symptoms. Surgery is an appropriate treatment for SCTs-NOS and should be individualized. Final diagnosis depends on pathology. SCTs-NOS have malignant potential, and the treatments for patients with malignant tumors and disease recurrence or progression were cytoreductive surgery, adjuvant chemotherapy, and gonadotrophin-releasing hormone agonists (GnRHa) therapy.

Abstract Accurately estimating large-area crop yields, especially for soybeans, is essential for addressing global food security challenges. This study introduces a deep learning framework that focuses on precise county-level soybean yield estimation in the United States. It utilizes a wide range of multi-variable remote sensing data. The model used in this study is a state-of-the-art CNN-BiGRU model, which is enhanced by the GOA and a novel attention mechanism (GCBA). This model excels in handling intricate time series and diverse remote sensing datasets. Compared to five leading machine learning and deep learning models, our GCBA model demonstrates superior performance, particularly in the 2019 and 2020 evaluations, achieving remarkable R2, RMSE, MAE and MAPE values. This sets a new benchmark in yield estimation accuracy. Importantly, the study highlights the significance of integrating multi-source remote sensing data. It reveals that synthesizing information from various sensors and incorporating photosynthesis-related parameters significantly enhances yield estimation precision. These advancements not only provide transformative insights for precision agricultural management but also establish a solid scientific foundation for informed decision-making in global agricultural production and food security.

Abstract Renal replacement therapy (RRT) is a crucial treatment for sepsis-associated acute kidney injury (S-AKI), but it is uncertain which S-AKI patients should receive immediate RRT. Identifying the characteristics of patients who may benefit the most from RRT is an important task. This retrospective study utilized a public database and enrolled S-AKI patients, who were divided into RRT and non-RRT groups. Uplift modeling was used to estimate the individual treatment effect (ITE) of RRT. The validity of different models was compared using a qini curve. After labeling the patients in the validation cohort, we characterized the patients who would benefit the most from RRT and created a nomogram. A total of 8289 patients were assessed, among whom 591 received RRT, and 7698 did not receive RRT. The RRT group had a higher severity of illness than the non-RRT group, with a Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score of 9 (IQR 6,11) vs. 5 (IQR 3,7). Despite experiencing a decadal shift towards drought conditions at the end of the 20th century, semiarid grasslands in northeast Asia (NEA) exhibited an evident greening trend from 1982 to 2020. However, the mechanism behind this phenomenon remains unclear. Hence, we analysed the interdecadal changes in vegetation response to drought on the basis of the standardised precipitation evapotranspiration index (SPEI) and Global Inventory Modelling and Mapping Studies LAI4g datasets, with an emphasis on the differences between direct and legacy effects (as measured by resilience), to explore the mechanism of persistent grassland greening. Results revealed that during the post-drought shift period (2000–2020), the sudden decrease in the water content of the intermediate soil layer triggered an intensified vegetation response to drought. Specifically, although direct effects and resilience were amplified, they exhibited asymmetric changes. Resilience was stronger than direct effects, and this difference increased with increasing drought (drought recovery) levels. These combined effects may account for persistent greening against intensified drying in the semiarid grasslands in NEA. Given the projected exacerbation of future droughts, this study holds notable importance for comprehending the long-term change dynamics of dryland ecosystems.

In this study, japonica rice, glutinous rice flour and green tea powder were used as the main raw materials to develop rice cake contained green tea and optimize the formula. By using single factor experiments and orthogonal experiments to optimize the formula, its quality was detected and analyzed. The optimum formula of rice cake contained green tea was obtained by orthogonal test optimization: The additive amount of green tea powder and white granulated sugar was 3% and 7.5%, the ratio of japonica rice flour to glutinous rice flour was 1:2. Under this formula condition, the comprehensive score of green tea rice cake was 85.60 points. The results of electronic nose showed that the difference of volatile compounds of rice cake contained green tea were mainly sulfur compounds and nitrogen oxides compared with the control group without green tea. The antioxidant test results showed that the total phenolic content, DPPH·, and ABTS+· clearance rate of green tea rice cake were all improved compared with the control. The results of in vitro digestion experiments showed that the addition of exogenous green tea could effectively reduce the in vitro digestion rate of rice cakes, while its resistant starch content increased and its rapid digestion starch content decreased.

Abstract Coacervation, or liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS) of biomacromolecules, is increasingly recognized to play an important role both intracellularly and in the extracellular space. Central questions that remain to be addressed are the links between the material properties of coacervates (condensates) and both the primary and the secondary structures of their constitutive building blocks. Short LLPS-prone peptides, such as GY23 variants explored in this study, are ideal model systems to investigate these links because simple sequence modifications and the chemical environment strongly affect the viscoelastic properties of coacervates. Herein, a systematic investigation of the structure/property relationships of peptide coacervates was conducted using GY23 variants, combining biophysical characterization (plate rheology and surface force apparatus, SFA) with secondary structure investigations by infrared (IR) and circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy. Mutating specific residues into either more hydrophobic or more hydrophilic residues strongly regulates the viscoelastic properties of GY23 coacervates. Furthermore, the ionic strength and kosmotropic characteristics (Hofmeister series) of the buffer in which LLPS is induced also significantly impact the properties of formed coacervates. Structural investigations by CD and IR indicate a direct correlation between variations in properties induced by endogenous (peptide sequence) or exogenous (ionic strength, kosmotropic characteristics, aging) factors and the β-sheet content within coacervates. These findings provide valuable insights to rationally design short peptide coacervates with programmable materials properties that are increasingly used in biomedical applications.

Abstract Background The overgrowth of Desulfovibrio, an inflammation promoting flagellated bacteria, has been found in ulcerative colitis (UC) patients. However, the molecular mechanism in promoting colitis remains unestablished. Methods The relative abundance Desulfovibrio vulgaris (D. vulgaris) in stool samples of UC patients was detected. Mice were treated with dextran sulfate sodium to induce colitis with or without administration of D. vulgaris or D. vulgaris flagellin (DVF), and the severity of colitis and the leucine-rich repeat containing 19 (LRRC19) signaling were assessed. The interaction between DVF and LRRC19 was identified by surface plasmon resonance and intestinal organoid culture. Lrrc19 −/− and Tlr5 −/− mice were used to investigate the indispensable role of LRRC19. Finally, the blockade of DVF-LRRC19 interaction was selected through virtual screening and the efficacy in colitis was assessed. Results D. vulgaris was enriched in fecal samples of UC patients and was correlated with the disease severity. D. vulgaris or DVF treatment significantly exacerbated colitis in germ-free mice and conventional mice. Mechanistically, DVF could interact with LRRC19 (rather than TLR5) in colitis mice and organoids, and then induce the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Lrrc19 knockdown blunted the severity of colitis. Furthermore, typhaneoside, a blockade of binding interfaces, blocked DVF-LRRC19 interaction and dramatically ameliorated DVF-induced colitis. Conclusions D. vulgaris could promote colitis through DVF-LRRC19 interaction. Targeting DVF-LRRC19 interaction might be a new therapeutic strategy for UC therapy. Video Abstract

This paper presents Integrated Semantics-Structure Analysis in Knowledge Graph Completion (ISA-KGC), a new framework for Knowledge Graph Completion (KGC) aimed at addressing the incompleteness of knowledge graphs (KGs). ISA-KGC integrates Graph Neural Networks (GNN) with Transformer-based models, effectively blending structural and semantic information within Knowledge Graphs. This fusion enhances comprehension of KGs beyond what traditional methods offer. The framework utilizes Knowledge Graph Embedding (KGE) models, with GNN employed to augment these models, thus enhancing the overall analysis and interpretation of Knowledge Graphs. The effectiveness of ISA-KGC is validated through benchmark datasets FB15K-237 and WN18RR, showing notable improvements in performance metrics like hit@10 compared to existing methods.

Abstract Background In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) theory, cold dampness obstruction is one of the common syndromes of osteoarthritis. Therefore, in clinical practice, the main treatment methods are to dispel wind, remove dampness, and dissipate cold, used to treat knee osteoarthritis (KOA). This report describes a mulitercenter clinical study to assess Zhuifeng Tougu Capsule’s efficacy and safety in the treatment of patients who are cold dampness obstruction syndrome in KOA, and to provide evidence-based medical for the rational use of Zhuifeng Tougu Capsules in clinical practice. Methods This randomized, parallel group controlled, double-blind, double dummy trial will include a total of 215 KOA patients who meet the study criteria. 215 patients underwent 1:1 randomisation, with 107 cases assigned the experimental group (Zhuifeng Tougu Capsules + Glucosamine Sulfate Capsules Simulator) and 108 assigned the control group (Glucosamine Sulfate Capsules + Zhuifeng Tougu Capsules Simulator). After enrolment, patients received 12 weeks of treatment. The main efficacy measure is the Western Ontario and McMaster University Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) pain score. Visual analogue scale (VAS) pain score, Self-condition assessment VAS score, WOMAC KOA score, TCM syndrome score and TCM syndrome efficacy, ESR level, CRP level, suprapatellar bursa effusion depth, use of rescue drugs, and safety indicators are secondary efficacy indicators. Results Compared with before treatment, WOMAC pain score, VAS pain score, Self-condition assessment VAS score, WOMAC KOA score, and TCM syndrome score decreased significantly in both groups (P 0.05). No any serious adverse effects showed in the experimental group and control group. Conclusions Zhuifeng Tougu Capsules can effectively improve knee joint function and significantly alleviate the pain of KOA. Trial registration: Clinical trial registration was completed with the China Clinical Trial Registration Center for this research protocol (No. ChiCTR2000028750) on January 2, 2020.

AbstractThe Alashan ground squirrel (Spermophilus alashanicus) is primarily distributed in the regions of Inner Mongolia and Ningxia, China. In this study, we present the first complete mitochondrial genome of S. alashanicus. The genome spans 16,464 base pairs and comprises 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, two rRNA genes, and a single control region with a marked AT bias. The overall GC content is 35.4%. Phylogenetic analyses indicate that S. alashanicus clusters are closely associated with S. dauricus. This comprehensive characterization of the S. alashanicus mitochondrial genome serves as a foundational resource for future studies on mitochondrial evolution, species identification, population genomics, and phylogenetics.

Abstract Introduction This study aimed to characterize the morbidity, hospitalization, and mortality rates among patients with adult-onset Still’s disease (AOSD) affected by coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and explore the impact of COVID-19 on the disease activity of AOSD. Methods Data on the clinical and demographic characteristics, COVID-19-related symptoms, and outcomes were retrospectively collected. Patients were stratified according to COVID-19 severity and associations between risk factors and outcomes were analyzed using multivariate logistic regression. The disease activity of patients with AOSD flares after COVID-19 was described. Results A total of 188 patients with AOSD were followed up, of whom 75.5% (n = 142) had a confirmed or highly suspected COVID-19. Patients on medium or high-dose oral glucocorticoids or Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors were at increased risk of developing moderate to severe COVID-19. Six patients suffered flares of AOSD following COVID-19 in a short period; however, the relapse rate was not statistically increased compared with patients without COVID-19. Conclusion Patients with AOSD receiving medium or high-dose glucocorticoid therapy or JAK inhibitors had worse COVID-19 outcomes. Further work is needed to explore risk factors affecting COVID-19 outcomes and the impact of COVID-19 on disease activity in AOSD.

Abstract Objective In view of the high incidence and mortality of esophageal cancer, the latest statistical data on the disease burden of esophageal cancer can provide strategies for cancer screening, early detection and treatment, and help to rationally allocate health resources. This study provides an analysis of the global disease burden and risk factors of esophageal cancer from 1990 to 2019. Methods Using the 2019 Global Burden of Disease, Injury and Risk Factor (GBD) data, we present the incidence, mortality and disability-adjusted life years (DALY) of esophageal cancer in 21 regions and 204 countries and different sociodemographic index (SDI) regions from 1990 to 2019. The age-period-cohort model was used to estimate the age, period, and cohort trend of esophageal cancer in different SDI regions. The estimated proportion of DALY attributable to each risk factor from 1990 to 2019. Results From 1990 to 2019, the number of new cases of esophageal cancer, the number of deaths and DALY increased by 67.07%, 55.97% and 42.13%, respectively, but age standardized incidence rate (ASIR), age standardized mortality rate (ASMR) and age standardized DALY rate (ASDR) decreased by 19.28%, 25.32% and 88.22%, respectively. Overall, the results of the age-period-cohort model showed that the incidence, mortality, and DALY rates in countries and regions with higher SDI levels showed a downward trend over time and with the passage of time. Conversely, there were no significant changes in incidence and mortality in countries and regions with low SDI levels. In the past 30 years, the incidence and death of esophageal cancer in the world has gradually changed to people over 80 years old, but the population aged 60–79 still accounts for the largest proportion. The global DALY in esophageal cancer is mainly attributable to smoking, followed by alcohol consumption and occupational exposure. Conclusions Although ASIR, ASMR and ASDR have decreased significantly, esophageal cancer is still the main factor causing the disease burden worldwide. Public health administrators in low SDI and low-middle SDI countries are high-risk areas for esophageal cancer, and preventive control measures should be implemented to raise awareness, screening, and treatment of esophageal cancer in these areas. Tobacco and alcohol control and reduction of occupational hazards are key steps in reducing the burden of esophageal cancer.

Abstract Recent studies have reported the role of the M3 muscarinic acetylcholine receptor (M3R), a member of the G‐protein coupled receptor superfamily, encoded by the CHRM3 gene, in cardiac function and the regulation of blood pressure (BP). The aim of this study was to investigate the associations of CHRM3 genetic variants with salt sensitivity, longitudinal BP changes, and the development of hypertension in a Chinese population. We conducted a chronic dietary salt intervention experiment in a previously established Chinese cohort to analyze salt sensitivity of BP. Additionally, a 14‐year follow‐up was conducted on all participants in the cohort to evaluate the associations of CHRM3 polymorphisms with longitudinal BP changes, as well as the incidence of hypertension. The single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs10802811 within the CHRM3 gene displayed significant associations with low salt‐induced changes in systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), and mean arterial pressure (MAP), while rs373288072, rs114677844, and rs663148 exhibited significant associations with SBP and MAP responses to a high‐salt diet. Furthermore, the SNP rs58359377 was associated with changes in SBP and pulse pressure (PP) over the course of 14 years. Additionally, the 14‐year follow‐up revealed a significant association between the rs619288 polymorphism and an increased risk of hypertension (OR = 1.74, 95% CI: 1.06‐2.87, p = .029). This study provides evidence that CHRM3 may have a role in salt sensitivity, BP progression, and the development of hypertension.

Ratiometric fluorescent films with high amine sensitivity and stability were developed to monitor the freshness of beef and pork. Fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC) and red carbon quantum dots (R-CQD) were used as the amine-responsive indicator and internal reference, respectively. The electrospun films prepared by immobilizing FITC and R-CQD complex (F-R) into polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) under 35 %, 55 % and 75 % of relative humidity (RH) were named F-R@PVDF-1, F-R@PVDF-2 and F-R@PVDF-3, respectively. In comparison, the F-R@PVDF-2 film exhibited the highest sensitivity to trimethylamine (TMA), demonstrating a limit of detection (LOD) value of 1.59 μM, and meanwhile high stability during storage with ΔE value of 1.99 after 14 days of storage at 4 °C. The F-R@PVDF-2 film also showed a significant fluorescent red-to-brown color change during meat freshness monitoring at 4 °C. Conclusively, this study reported a new ratiometric fluorescent film that can be used to track the freshness of meats in food packaging.

Total cholesterol (TC) and the cholesterol oxidation product 27-hydroxycholesterol (27-OHC) are both increased in the elderly. Accumulating evidence has linked 27-OHC to glucose metabolism in the brain, while docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) has been shown to positively regulate the 27-OHC levels. However, it is unclear whether DHA may affect glucose metabolism in the brain by regulating 27-OHC levels. In this study, we hypothesized that DHA supplementation would modulate TC levels and reduce 27-OHC levels, thereby improving brain glucose metabolism in SAMP8 mice. The mice were assigned into the Control group and DHA dietary supplementation group. The study evaluated cholesterol levels, 27-OHC levels, and glucose metabolism in the brain. The results showed that DHA supplementation decreased serum levels of TC, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and increased levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C); and improved the glucose-corrected standardized uptake value of cortex, hippocampus, and whole brain regions in SAMP8 mice. In conclusion, supplementation of DHA could regulate the cholesterol composition and reduce the level of 27-OHC, thereby improving brain glucose metabolism in SAMP8 mice.

Kidney stones, a prevalent urological disorder, are closely associated with oxidative stress (OS) and the inflammatory response. Recent research in the field of kidney stone treatment has indicated the potential of natural active ingredients to modulate OS targets and the inflammatory response in kidney stones. Oxidative stress can occur through various pathways, increasing the risk of stone formation, while the inflammatory response generated during kidney stone formation further exacerbates OS, forming a detrimental cycle. Both antioxidant systems related to OS and inflammatory mediators associated with inflammation play roles in the pathogenesis of kidney stones. Natural active ingredients, abundant in resources and possessing antioxidative and anti-inflammatory properties, have the ability to decrease the risk of stone formation and improve prognosis by reducing OS and suppressing pro-inflammatory cytokine expression or pathways. Currently, numerous developed natural active ingredients have been clinically applied and demonstrated satisfactory therapeutic efficacy. This review aims to provide novel insights into OS and inflammation targets in kidney stones as well as summarize research progress on potential therapeutic strategies involving natural active ingredients. Future studies should delve deeper into exploring efficacy and mechanisms of action of diverse natural active ingredients, proposing innovative treatment strategies for kidney stones, and continuously uncovering their potential applications.

Ningxia is one of the well-known wine producing regions in China. However, the oenological and aroma characteristics of indigenous yeasts remains hidden. The fermentative and oenological properties including stress resistance, hydrogen sulfide, foam production levels; killer phenotype, and flocculation of 89 Ningxia indigenous Saccharomyces cerevisiae isolates and ten commercial yeasts were evaluated. The fermentative and oenological properties of the tested strains varied significantly. They could resist 500 g/L glucose, 300 mg/L SO2, 14% (v/v) ethanol and pH 2.8, and produce more esters. They also produce low levels of ethanol and could conduct fermentations vigorously and at a high rate. Cabernet Sauvignon wines made with NXU 21–24 showed the high intensity of tropical fruit, dry fruit, temperate fruit, and spicy flavor. The floral flavor in NXU 21–102 fermented wine is very intense. The indigenous S. cerevisiae strains of NXU 21–102 and NXU 21–24 exhibited potential use as starter cultures in wine production.

In this study, three fermentation treatments of spontaneous fermentation (SF), direct inoculation of CECA (YF), and inoculation with CECA after addition of dimethyl dicarbonate (YDF) were carried out. Multivariate statistical analysis approved that CECA inoculation significantly influenced the composition of 141 metabolites (15 volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and 126 non-VOCs), mainly consisting of 36 acids and derivatives and 25 lipids and lipid-like molecules. YF and YDF wines exhibited similar correlations with aroma types, while there were differences in the kinds and number of VOCs. Moreover, CECA-inoculated fermentation was more favorable to the formation of aftertaste-A, umami, sourness, and richness. The KEGG metabolic pathway analysis indicated that the inoculation strategy significantly affected the amino acid metabolism. The antimicrobial treatment effectively enhanced bitterness, astringency, umami and saltiness while reducing acidity. Further studies are needed to assess the effects of antimicrobial treatment on lipid metabolism.

Cancer is a leading cause of mortality globally, characterized by intricate molecular alterations, including epigenetic changes such as glycosylation. This study presents a comprehensive pan-cancer analysis of Polypeptide N-Acetylgalactosaminyltransferase 7 (GALNT7), an enzyme involved in mucin-type O-linked protein glycosylation. GALNT7 has previously been linked to various cancers, but a unified analysis across cancer types is lacking.Leveraging data from TCGA, GTEx, and other sources, we scrutinized GALNT7's expression, prognostic relevance, links to immune-related genes, immune cell infiltration, and its involvement in tumor genetic heterogeneity across 33 cancer types. GALNT7 exhibited diverse expression patterns across cancer types, showcasing its potential as an oncogenic factor, with its expression levels linked to both positive and negative prognoses, highlighting the context-specific nature of its role in cancer progression.We delved into the intricate interplay between GALNT7 and immune genes, unveiling positive and negative correlations, underscoring complex interactions in the tumor microenvironment. GALNT7 was found to impact immune cell infiltration, which could have implications for treatment strategies. Additionally, GALNT7 displayed associations with genetic tumor aspects, encompassing genomic instability, DNA repair issues, and genetic mutations, hinting at its pivotal role in shaping the genetic landscape of diverse cancers.Enrichment analysis uncovered potential functions of GALNT7 beyond glycosylation, such as its participation in signaling pathways and its association with various diseases, notably cancer.This comprehensive analysis elucidates the multifaceted role of GALNT7 in cancer biology, underlining its potential as a therapeutic target and biomarker across various cancer types. These findings provide valuable insights for future research and the development of personalized cancer treatment strategies.

Vitamin D, a fat-soluble steroid, has increasingly taken a central role due to its crucial role in human health. It is estimated that about 40% of worldwide population are vitamin D deficient. The fish industry produces significant quantities of waste daily, with consequent high environmental impact. The aim of this work is to place a first brick for the fish waste reuse as a source of vitamin D3 extracts to be used for nutraceutical purposes. For this purpose, an UV conversion method for transforming the 7-dehydrocholesterol, highly present in fish, in vitamin D3 has been optimized. The UV wavelength, exposure time, temperature, stirring, and UV intensity were optimized using a surface response design tool. The optimized treatment was applied to five fish species with different fat percentages and the results were very promising reaching vitamin D3 levels >10 times higher than the pre-treatment ones.

Summer extreme heat events happen frequently in northern China during recent decades, which have serious impacts on the society and ecosystem. The present study reveals that there is a synergistic effect of the preceding winter positive mid-latitude North Atlantic SST anomaly (pMNA SSTA) and summer negative tropical eastern Indian Ocean SST anomaly (nTEI SSTA) on strengthening the summer extreme heat events in northern China. The extreme heat events are stronger and more frequent when the two factors cooccur, and the probability of a strengthened extreme heat events is higher, which indicates a synergistic effect of the two factors. The preceding winter pMNA SSTA and summer nTEI SSTA exert their synergistic effect through a series of coupled oceanic-land-atmospheric bridges. The preceding winter pMNA SSTA could lead to an anomalous anticyclone over central Asia via the eastward propagating Rossby wave, which decreases snowfall and the subsequent snow cover there. The negative snow cover anomaly may persist into spring and induce a local anomalous anticyclone in spring via the snow-hydrological effect, which decreases the precipitation over the southern flank of the anomalous anticyclone. The decreased soil moisture persists into summer and induces the eastward propagating Rossby wave, and favors the increase of atmosphere thickness over northern China. The summer nTEI SSTA can also induce the anomalous anticyclone over northern China via the northeastward Rossby wave propagation. Thus, the two factors exhibit evident synergistic effect on the atmospheric circulation anomaly over northern China. The anomalous anticyclone corresponds to the increased atmosphere thickness, which favors the increase of air temperature in northern China and strengthening of extreme heat events. Therefore, the preceding winter pMNA SSTA and summer nTEI SSTA have significant synergistic effect on strengthening the summer extreme heat events in northern China.

Melatonin (MT) participates in plants' responses in plants’ response to cadmium (Cd) tolerance, although its work model remains elusive. Here, the function of MT in adjusting Cd accumulation in Gossypium hirsutum (CCRI12) was investigated. In this research we observed that exogenous 50 μM MT significantly reduced the Cd accumulation under 100 μМ Cd stress for 7 days of treatment in cotton seedlings. Cd markedly induced the ROS (H2O2, O2-) accumulation and elevated the expression of transporters for Cd uptake and translocation. After application of MT reduced ROS and MDA accumulation in response to high induction of antioxidant defense system; the genes encoding superoxide dismutase (GhSOD), catalase (GhCAT), and peroxidase (GhPOD), ascorbate peroxidase (GhAPX), and glutathione S-transferase (GhGST) were significantly upregulated accompanied by their level of content. Furthermore, MT down-regulated transporters for Cd uptake include Natural Resistance-Associated Macrophage Protein 1 (GhNRAMP3), Zinc/Iron-regulated transporter-like protein (GhZIP1/4/6), Heavy Metal ATPase gene (GhHMA2), and ATP-binding Cassette sub family C (GhABCC3/2). Exogenous application of MT raised the hemicelluloses, cellulose and pectin content accompanied by their expression levels, xyloglucan endotransglucosylase/hydrolase (GhXTH28/6/9/B), cellulose synthase like (GhCSLG1/2) and COBRA-like (GhCOBL4), pectin acetylesterases (GhPAE8/7), pectin methylesterases (GhPME31) which in turn increased the cell wall's binding capacity to Cd.

As a local specialty of Tibet, Qingke baijiu (QB) is made from highland barley, and is referred to as the manufacturing process of light-aroma baijiu. Using highland barley in the Qu-making and the high-temperature stacking process of sauce-aroma baijiu results in a novel Qingke baijiu (NQB). This study analyzed two kinds of NQBs by GC-MS, GC×GC-MS, and GC-O-MS, and compared them with QB, light-aroma, strong-aroma, and sauce-aroma baijiu. A total of 346 volatile compounds and 60 aroma-active compounds were detected in NQB. There were 14 compounds with FD≥27 and OAVs ≥1. Although NQB and QB shared 39 volatile compounds, NQB has more than three times the overall concentration of volatile compounds than QB. In contrast to QB, NQB exhibited a richer flavor profile and a more intense fruity, floral, and acidic aroma. Meanwhile, the distilled grains and sorghum aroma were comparatively diminished.

BackgroundSacubitril–valsartan has been widely reported for reducing the risk of cardiovascular death and improving left ventricular remodeling in patients with heart failure (HF). However, the effect of sacubitril–valsartan in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) remains controversial. Therefore, we conducted this meta-analysis to investigate whether sacubitril–valsartan could reverse left ventricular remodeling and reduce cardiovascular adverse events in AMI patients after primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI).Materials and methodsTwo researchers independently retrieved the relevant literature from PubMed, Embase, The Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), and the Wanfang database. The retrieval time was limited from inception to 1 June 2023. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) meeting the inclusion criteria were included and analyzed.ResultsIn total, 21 RCTs involving 2442 AMI patients who underwent PPCI for revascularization were included in this meta-analysis. The meta-analysis showed that compared with the angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEI)/angiotensin receptor blockers (ARB), sacubitril–valsartan treatment in AMI patients after PPCI significantly reduced left ventricular end-diastolic dimension (LVEDD) (weighted mean difference (WMD) −3.11, 95%CI: −4.05∼−2.16, p < 0.001), left ventricular end-diastolic volume (LVEDV) (WMD −7.76, 95%CI: −12.24∼−3.27, p = 0.001), left ventricular end-systolic volume (LVESV) (WMD −6.80, 95%CI: −9.45∼−4.15, p < 0.001) and left ventricular end-systolic dimension (LVESD) (WMD −2.53, 95%CI: −5.30–0.24, p < 0.001). Subgroup analysis according to the dose of sacubitril–valsartan yielded a similar result. Meanwhile, PPCI patients using sacubitril–valsartan therapy showed lower risk of major adverse cardiac events (MACE) (OR = 0.36, 95%CI: 0.28–0.46, p < 0.001), myocardial reinfarction (OR = 0.54, 95%CI: 0.30–0.98, p = 0.041) and HF (OR = 0.35, 95%CI: 0.26–0.47, p < 0.001) without increasing the risk of renal insufficiency, hyperkalemia, or symptomatic hypotension. At the same time, the change of LV ejection fraction (LVEF) (WMD 3.91, 95%CI: 3.41–4.41, p < 0.001), 6 min walk test (6MWT) (WMD 43.56, 95%CI: 29.37–57.76, p < 0.001) and NT-proBNP level (WMD −130.27, 95%CI: −159.14∼−101.40, p < 0.001) were statistically significant.ConclusionIn conclusion, our meta-analysis indicates that compared with ACEI/ARB, sacubitril–valsartan may be superior to reverse left ventricular remodeling, improve cardiac function, and effectively reduce the risk of MACE, myocardial reinfarction, and HF in AMI patients after PPCI during follow-up without increasing the risk of adverse reactions including renal insufficiency, hyperkalemia, and symptomatic hypotension.

Potato soft rot caused by Pectobacterium spp. are devastating diseases of potato which cause severe economic losses worldwide. Pectobacterium brasiliense is considered as one of the most virulent species. However, the virulence mechanisms and pathogenicity factors of this strain have not been fully elucidated. Here, through pathogenicity screening, we identified two Pectobacterium brasiliense isolates, SM and DQ, with distinct pathogenicity levels. SM exhibits higher virulence compared to DQ in inducing aerial stem rot, blackleg and tuber soft rot. Our genomic and transcriptomic analyses revealed that SM encodes strain specific genes with regard to plant cell wall degradation and express higher level of genes associated with bacterial motility and secretion systems. Our plate assays verified higher pectinase, cellulase, and protease activities, as well as fast swimming and swarming motility in SM. Importantly, a unique endoglucanase S specific to SM was identified. Expression of this cellulase in DQ greatly enhances its virulence compared to wild type strain. Our study sheds light on possible determinants causing different pathogenicity of Pectobacterium brasiliense species with close evolutionary distance and provides new insight into the direction of genome evolution in response to host variation and environmental stimuli.
