26. Equivalent and Simplification of Nickel-Based Superalloy Plates with Close-Packed Film Cooling Holes

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe mechanical properties of thin-walled plate with close-packed film cooling holes are studied based on the equivalent solid material concept. The equivalent principals of the method of equivalent strain energy, homogenization theory and uniform static deformation are considered. A simplification method of square penetration pattern for pitch and diagonal direction loading is presented. The goodness of fit is calculated to determine the optimal method. The tensile deformation, bending deflection, rotation displacement and maximum Mises equivalent stress of simplification plate models are in good agreement with plate models with close-packed film cooling holes. For square penetration pattern for pitch direction loading, the equivalent errors of Mises equivalent stress are all less than 10% when the ligament efficiency is more than 0.6.

Abstract

An optimization method has been presented to simultaneously identify the bird's constitutive model and its parameters automatically in the bird strike problems. The full contact-impact coupling algorithm of finite element method (FEM) has been applied and the optimization objective is to minimize the square sum of percentage errors between testing results and FEM results. As an example, two bird's material constitutive models, Plastic Kinematics model and hyper elastic Mooney-Rivlin Rubber material model, have been used to testify the feasibility and reliability of the optimization method. Abstract

A creep damage model Is developed with the consideration of cavitation and material microstructure degradation as damage factors. Five models are studied with different ratios between the length of ellipse hole axis parallel (denoted by y) and perpendicular to the loading direction (denoted by x), where y maintains constant. Two loading conditions are taken into account: constant external load and constant net section stress. The creep crack initiation time increases with increasing y/x ratio at both loading conditions. The stress distribution morphologies are quite similar for all the models at the start of creep where there are high stress strips between holes in the adjacent rows and low stress strips between holes in the same rows. During the creep, stress relaxation and redistribution induce some differences in the morphologies for different models at the crack initiation time. Abstract

The dynamic indentation response of polycrystalline copper under cyclic fatigue loading is studied with a flat cylindrical indenter. First, a simple analytical model shows that in a purely elastic solid, the indentation depth responds with the same wavelength and frequency as the applied sinusoidal fatigue load. Next, a numerical simulation of an indentation fatigue test on an elastic-plastic solid (polycrystalline copper) is performed. Finite element analyses reveal that the mean indentation depth is controlled by both the mean of the indentation fatigue load and the load amplitude, while the amplitude of the indentation depth is independent of the mean load. Further investigations indicate that with an increased number of cycles, the increment of indentation depth reaches a constant rate. The steady state indentation depth rate is dependent not only on the amplitude of indentation fatigue load but also on the fatigue mean load, which is similar to strain accumulation during a conventional fatigue test. A parallel indentation experiment on annealed polycrystalline copper also confirms the effect of the fatigue mean load, indicating consistency with numerical results. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
