We report on our discovery of the radio pulsar, PSR J2016$+$3711, in supernova remnant (SNR) CTB 87, with a $\sim10.8\sigma$ significance of pulses, which confirms the compact nature of the X-ray point source in CTB 87. It is the first pulsar discovered in SNRs using Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST). Its integrated radio pulse profile can be well described by a single component, with a width at 50% of the peak flux density of about 28.1$^\circ$ and an effective width of about 32.2$^\circ$. The mean flux density at 1.25 GHz is estimated to be about 15.5$\mu$Jy. Combined with the non-detection of the radio pulse at lower frequencies, the radio spectral index of the pulsar is constrained to be $\lesssim 2.3$. We also present the timing solution based on 28 follow-up FAST observations. Our results reveal a period of 50.81 ms, period derivative of $7.2\times 10^{-14}$ s s$^{-1}$, and dispersion measure of 428 pc cm$^{-3}$. The strength of the equatorial surface magnetic dipole magnetic field is inferred to be about $1.9\times10^{12}$ G. Using the ephemeris obtained from the radio observations, we searched Fermi-LAT data for gamma-ray pulsations but detected no pulsed signal. We also searched for radio pulses with FAST toward the X-ray counterpart of the gamma-ray binary HESS J1832$-$093 proximate to SNR G22.7$-$00.2 but found no signal., Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures, accepted for publication in MNRAS

We report the radio observations of the eclipsing black widow pulsar J1720-0534, a 3.26 ms pulsar in orbit with a low mass companion of mass 0.029 to 0.034 M$_{\odot}$. We obtain the phase-connected timing ephemeris and polarization profile of this millisecond pulsar (MSP) using the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope (FAST), the Green Bank Telescope (GBT), and the Parkes Telescope. For the first time from such a system, an oscillatory polarisation angle change was observed from a particular eclipse egress with partial depolarization, indicating 10-milliGauss-level reciprocating magnetic fields oscillating in a length scale of 5000 km (assuming an orbital inclination angle of 90 degrees) outside the companion's magnetosphere. The dispersion measure variation observed during the ingresses and egresses shows the rapid raising of the electron density in the shock boundary between the companion's magnetosphere and the surrounding pulsar wind. Fast radio bursts (FRBs) are highly dispersed millisecond-duration radio bursts, of which the physical origin is still not fully understood. FRB 20201124A is one of the most actively repeating FRBs. In this paper, we present the collection of 1863 burst dynamic spectra of FRB 20201124A measured with the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST). The current collection, taken from the observation during the FRB active phase from April to June 2021, is the largest burst sample detected in any FRB so far. The standard PSRFITs format is adopted, including dynamic spectra of the burst, and the time information of the dynamic spectra, in addition, mask files help readers to identify the pulse positions are also provided.

As a major approach to looking for life beyond the Earth, the search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI) is committed to detecting technosignatures such as engineered radio signals that are indicative of technologically capable life. In this paper, we report a targeted SETI campaign employing an observation strategy named multi-beam coincidence matching (MBCM) at the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST) towards 33 known exoplanet systems, searching for ETI narrow-band drifting signals across 1.05-1.45 GHz in two orthogonal linear polarization directions separately. A signal at 1140.604 MHz detected from the observation towards Kepler-438 originally peaked our interest because its features are roughly consistent with assumed ETI technosignatures. However, evidences such as its polarization characteristics are almost able to eliminate the possibility of an extraterrestrial origin. We present a pilot study of extragalactic HI 21-cm absorption lines using the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST). We observed 5 continuum sources with HI absorption features firstly identified in the 40% data release of the Arecibo Legacy Fast Arecibo L-Band Feed Array (ALFA) Survey (ALFALFA), including two systems later detected by the Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope (WSRT). Most of our observations were carried out during the FAST commissioning phase, and we have tested different observing modes, as well as data reduction methods, to produce the best spectra. Our observations successfully confirmed the existence of HI absorption lines in all these systems, including two sources that were marginally detected by ALFALFA. We fitted the HI profiles with single or double of Gaussian functions, and calculated the HI column densities of each source. The HI absorption profiles obtained by FAST show much higher spectral resolution and higher S/N ratio than the existing data in the literature, thus demonstrating the power of FAST in revealing detailed structures of HI absorption lines. Our pilot observations and tests have enabled us to develop a strategy to search for HI absorption sources using the data from the FAST extragalactic HI survey, which is one of the key projects undertaken at FAST. We expect that over 1,500 extragalactic HI absorbing systems could be detected with survey data, based on sensitivity level we achieved in pilot observations., Comment: 13 pages, 14 figures. The Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST) passed national acceptance and is taking pilot cycle of 'Shared-Risk' observations. The 19-beam receiver covering 1.05-1.45 GHz was used for most of these observations. The electronics gain fluctuation of the system is better than 1\% over 3.5 hours, enabling enough stability for observations. Pointing accuracy, aperture efficiency and system temperature are three key parameters of FAST. The measured standard deviation of pointing accuracy is 7.9$''$, which satisfies the initial design of FAST. When zenith angle is less than 26.4$^\circ$, the aperture efficiency and system temperature around 1.4 GHz are $\sim$ 0.63 and less than 24 K for central beam, respectively. The measured value of these two parameters are better than designed value of 0.6 and 25 K, respectively. The sensitivity and stability of the 19-beam backend are confirmed to satisfy expectation by spectral HI observations toward N672 and polarization observations toward 3C286. The active reflector is one of the three main innovations of the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST). The deformation of such a huge spherically shaped reflector into different transient parabolic shapes is achieved by using 2225 hydraulic actuators which change the position of the 2225 nodes through the connected down tied cables. For each different tracking process of the telescope, more than 1/3 of these 2225 actuators must be in operation to tune the parabolic aperture accurately to meet the surface error restriction. It means that some of these actuators are inevitably located within the main beam of the receiver, and the Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) from the actuators must be mitigated to ensure the scientific output of the telescope. Based on the threshold level of interference detrimental to radio astronomy presented in ITU-R Recommendation RA.769 and EMI measurements, the shielding efficiency (SE) requirement of each actuator is set to be 80dB in the frequency range from 70MHz to 3GHz. Therefore, Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) was taken into account in the actuator design by measures such as power line filters, optical fibers, shielding enclosures and other structural measures. In 2015, all the actuators had been installed at the FAST site. Till now, no apparent EMI from the actuators has been detected by the receiver, which proves the effectiveness of these EMC measures., Comment: 6 pages, 6 figures

The pulse profile of PSR B1133+16 is usually regarded as a conal-double structure. However, its multifrequency profiles cannot simply be fitted with two Gaussian functions, and a third component is always needed to fit the bridge region (between two peaks). This would introduce additional, redundant parameters. In this paper, through a comparison of five fitting functions (Gaussian, von Mises, hyperbolic secant, square hyperbolic secant, and Lorentz), it is found that the square hyperbolic secant function can best reproduce the profile, yielding an improved fit. Moreover, a symmetric 2D radiation beam function, instead of a simple 1D Gaussian function, is used to fit the profile. Each profile with either well-resolved or not-so-well-resolved peaks could be fitted adequately using this beam function, and the bridge emission between the two peaks does not need to be a new component. Adopting inclination and impact angles based on polarization measurements, the opening angle ({\theta}_{\mu}0) of the radiation beam in a certain frequency band is derived from beam-function fitting. The corresponding radiation altitudes are then calculated. Based on multi-frequency profiles, we also computed the Lorentz factors of the particles and their dispersion at those locations in both the curvature-radiation (CR) and inverse-Compton-scattering (ICS) models. We found that the Lorentz factors of the particles decrease rapidly as the radiation altitude increases. The Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope (FAST) is supported by a cable-net structure, whose change in form leads to a stress range of approximately 500MPa. This stress range is more than twice the standard authorized value. The cable-net structure is thus the most critical and fragile part of the FAST reflector system. In this study, we first search for a more appropriate deformation strategy that reduces the stress amplitude generated by the form-changing operation. Second, we roughly estimate the tracking trajectory of the telescope during its service life, and conduct an extensive numerical investigation to assess the fatigue resistance requirements. Finally, we develop a new type of steel cable system that meets that cable requirements for FAST construction.

The aligned pulsars whose rotation axes and magnetic dipole axes are parallel should be positively charged. The total charge of pulsars is calculated after considering the electromagnetic field in and out the star under a specific condition.
