Abstract Pancreatic cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-associated mortality, with a poor treatment approach. Previous study has shown that inducing pyroptosis in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) slows the growth of PDACs, implying that pyroptosis inducers are potentially effective for PDAC therapy. Here, we found that Dronedarone hydrochloride (DH), an antiarrhythmic drug, induces pyroptosis in pancreatic cancer cells and inhibits PDAC development in mice. In PANC-1 cells, DH caused cell death in a dosage- and time-dependent manner, with only pyroptosis inhibitors and GSDMD silencing rescuing the cell death, indicating that DH triggered GSDMD-dependent pyroptosis. Further work revealed that DH increased mitochondrial stresses and caused mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) leakage, activating the cytosolic STING-cGAS and pyroptosis pathways. Finally, we assessed the anti-cancer effects of DH in a pancreatic cancer mouse model and found that DH treatment suppressed pancreatic tumor development in vivo. Collectively, our investigation demonstrates that DH triggers pyroptosis in PDAC and proposes its potential effects on anti-PDAC growth.

The present study was undertaken to understand the effect of annealing on the microstructural features of the melt-pool structure and the associated multiscale mechanical properties of the Al–2.5%Fe–2%Cu alloy manufactured by laser powder bed fusion (LPBF). Microstructural characterizations and tensile tests were conducted for the LPBF-built specimen and those subsequently annealed at various temperatures ranging from 200 to 500 °C. Nanoindentation hardness mapping was used to evaluate the mechanical inhomogeneity of the melt-pool structure and its changes by annealing at different temperatures. The LPBF-manufactured sample exhibited a melt-pool structure containing numerous particles of the Al23CuFe4 phase (oC28, orthorhombic structure) formed because of local melting and rapid solidification during the LPBF process. The relatively coarsened cellular structure localized along the melt-pool boundary resulted in local soft regions. The local vulnerability contributed to the direction dependence of the tensile ductility. A slight variation was observed in the inhomogeneous microstructure of the samples annealed at 200 or 300 °C. The formation of numerous Al23CuFe4 nanoprecipitates in the α-Al supersaturated solid solution prevented strength loss after post-heat treatments. In addition, considerable coarsening of the intermetallic phase after annealing at 500 °C eliminated the melt-pool structure. The tensile performance of the specimens demonstrated a ductile fracture mode, wherein ductile fracture occurred in the α-Al matrix with low hardness while the harder θ-Al13Fe4 stable phase was embedded within it. The anisotropy in the mechanical properties was less pronounced owing to the significant microstructural changes.

In this article, a dialogue text feature extraction model based on big data and machine learning is constructed, which transforms the high-dimensional space of text features into the low-dimensional space that is easy to process, so that the best feature words can be selected to represent the document set. Tests show that in most cases, the classification accuracy of this model is higher than 88%, and the recall rate is higher than 85%, thus achieving the goal of higher classification accuracy with less computation. When extracting the features of dialogue texts, there is no need for preprocessing, just count the data such as lexical composition, sentence length and sentence-to-sentence relationship of the target text, and make linear analysis to obtain key indicators and weights. Based on this, the classification model can achieve good results, thus effectively reducing the workload and computation of text classification.

Abstract Land use and cover change (LUCC) significantly impacts global carbon cycles and land surface properties, accounting for 25% of the historical atmospheric CO2 increase. We explore a previously overlooked role of LUCC in driving the land carbon cycle by using a three-level meta-analysis and Land Use Harmonization data to drive an ecosystem model. Our findings reveal that a loss of 39.2% of soil organic carbon (SOC) change in China due to LUCC, mitigated by afforestation, doubles gross primary productivity at 0.02 Pg C yr−1, countering central China’s urbanization decline. Indirect climate effects, especially soil bulk density, significantly impact SOC compared to direct climate effects. LUCC has significantly increased the Chinese terrestrial carbon sink, with net ecosystem productivity reaching 0.02 ± 0.12 Pg C yr−1. Our study underscores the importance of reforestation and afforestation in addressing climate change and enhancing carbon sinks in future carbon management.

In the context of carbon neutrality, the economic policy uncertainty (EPU) in various countries is constantly rising, and the carbon emission trading market (CET market) is constantly changing. This study uses the wavelet analysis to analyze the time-frequency linkages between China’s economic policy uncertainty index (CEPU) and the price-earnings ratios of the Hubei CET market (HCMP), a representative of Chinese CET markets, from short-run, medium-run, and long-run perspectives. Results show that from the perspective of correlation in the time domain, the HCMP is positively correlated with the CEPU in different time periods. From the perspective of causality in the frequency domain, there is a causal relationship between the HCMP and CEPU in the short run, and the CEPU fluctuations are ahead of the HCMP fluctuations in the medium run. In the long run, the HCMP fluctuations are ahead of those of CEPU for the period before 2021, but the two fluctuate synchronously for the period after 2021. This study provides a reference for policymakers to manage the CET markets and for investors to optimize their investment portfolios.

Abstract Glioma, particularly glioblastomas (GBM), is incurable brain tumor. The most targeted receptor tyrosine kinase (RTKs) drugs did not bring benefit to GBM patients. The mechanism of glioma growth continues to be explored to find more effective treatment. Here, we reported that Ser/Thr protein kinase YANK2 (yet another kinase 2) is upregulated in glioma tissues and promotes the growth and proliferation of glioma in vitro and in vivo. Further, we confirmed that oncogene Fyn directly activated YANK2 through phosphorylation its Y110, and Fyn-mediated YANK2 phosphorylation at Y110 site promotes glioma growth by increasing its stability. Finally, YANK2 was proved to be a novel upstream kinase of p70S6K and promotes glioma growth by directly phosphorylating p70S6K at T389. Taken together, we found a new mTOR-independent p70S6K activation pathway, Fyn-YANK2-p70S6K, which promotes glioma growth, and YANK2 is a potential oncogene and serves as a novel therapeutic target for glioma.

Abstract Important properties of biochar as an effective soil amendment are its high water-holding capacity (WHC) and inhibition of water evaporation. However, the mechanism and the importance of biochar properties in controlling its own WHC and bound water evaporation remain little known. In this study, wheat straw and pine sawdust biochars were pyrolyzed in N2-flow, CO2-flow, and air-limitation environments at 300–750 ℃, and a series of the produced biochars’ properties were characterized to explore the dominant controlling factors of their WHC and bound water evaporation. The results have shown that with the increasing contents of hydrogen, nitrogen, and oxygen as well as such ratios as H/C, and (O + N)/C, WHC of the biochars was also increasing while the evaporation of biochar-bound water was decreasing. With an increase in the other studied factors, such as carbon content, pH, and specific surface area (SSA), WHC of the biochars was decreasing, and the evaporation of biochar-bound water was increasing. That was connected with the fact that biochar-nitrogen was mainly in pyridinic and pyrrolic forms, while oxygen was in the form of C = O and C–O bonds. These forms of nitrogen and oxygen could be the receptors of hydrogen bonds to link to H2O molecules. Aliphatic hydrogen with a weak positive charge could be a donor of hydrogen bonds to link to H2O molecules. However, high carbon content, as well as high SSA, indicated more exposed aromatic carbon (hydrophobic sites) that could suppress the binding of H2O molecules. Additionally, high pH indicated that H2O molecules were dominated by OH–, which generated strong electrostatic repulsion with the negatively charged nitrogen- and oxygen-containing groups of biochar. It was also shown that the nitrogen-containing groups played a more important role (importance – 0.31) in WHC of the biochar than other parameters, including carbon, oxygen, hydrogen, ash contents, pH, SSA (importance from 0.02 to 0.09). Nitrogen, oxygen, and carbon contents had the most important influence on the evaporation of biochar-bound water in all studied factors. Furthermore, wheat straw biochar produced at low pyrolysis temperatures in N2 atmosphere (with high nitrogen and oxygen contents) had the highest WHC and the lowest evaporation of biochar-bound water. Consequently, it can be suggested that biochar rich in nitrogen can be an effective water retention agent and can improve agricultural soil moisture. Graphical Abstract

Abstract Background Stress hyperglycemia ratio (SHR) and N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) are independently associated with increased mortality risk in diabetic patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). However, the role of these biomarkers in patients with diabetes and multivessel disease (MVD) remains unknown. The present study aimed to assess the relative and combined abilities of these biomarkers to predict all-cause mortality in patients with diabetes and MVD. Methods This study included 1148 diabetic patients with MVD who underwent coronary angiography at Tianjin Chest Hospital between January 2016 and December 2016. The patients were divided into four groups according to their SHR (SHR-L and SHR-H) and NT-proBNP (NT-proBNP-L and NT-proBNP-H) levels. The primary outcome was all-cause mortality. Multivariate Cox regression analyses were performed to evaluate the association of SHR and NT-proBNP levels with all-cause mortality. Results During a mean 4.2 year follow-up, 138 patients died. Abstract Background The relationship between parental age at pregnancy and offspring development in low- and middle-income countries remains unclear. We aimed to examine the associations of parental age at pregnancy with adolescent development in rural China. Methods We conducted a prospective birth cohort study of offspring born to pregnant women who participated in an antenatal micronutrient supplementation trial in rural Western China. Adolescent cognitive development and emotional and behavioural problems were assessed by using the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-IV and the Youth Self-Report-2001, respectively. After accounting for the possible nonlinear relationships, we examined the linear associations between parental age (in years) at pregnancy and scores of adolescent cognitive development and emotional and behavioural problems by performing generalized estimating equations. Results Among 1897 adolescents followed from birth to early adolescence, 59.5% were male with a mean age of 11.8 (standard deviation (SD): 0.8) years. The mean ages of mothers and fathers at pregnancy were 24.6 (SD: 4.4) and 27.9 (SD: 4.1) years old, respectively. All the P values of the nonlinear terms between parental age and adolescent development in all domains were greater than 0.05. Each one-year increase in maternal age at pregnancy was associated with a 0.29-point (95% confidence interval (CI) 0.06, 0.52) increase in the full-scale intelligence quotient in early adolescence. After parental age was categorized into quartiles, the total behavioural problem scores of adolescents with fathers with an age in the fourth quartile (Q4) were 6.71 (95% CI 0.86, 12.57) points higher than those of adolescents with fathers with an age in the first quartile (Q1), with a linear trend P value of 0.01. Similarly, higher scores (worse behavioural problems) were observed for internalizing behavioural problems and other emotional and behavioural symptoms related to anxiety, withdrawal, social problems, thought problems and aggressive behaviour. Conclusions At conception, older maternal age was independently linked to better adolescent cognitive development, whereas advanced paternal age was independently associated with a greater risk of adolescent emotional and behavioral problems. These findings suggest that public health policies targeting an optimal parental age at pregnancy should be developed in the context of offspring developmental consequences.

Abstract The construction of large and complex supramolecular architectures through self‐assembly is at the forefront of contemporary coordination chemistry. Notwithstanding great success in various systems using anionic bridges (e.g., O2− or S2−) or organic ligands (e.g., pyridine or carboxylate ligands), the assembly of large cyanide‐bridged clusters with increasing nuclearity remains a formidable synthetic challenge. In this study, it is achieved in preparing two heterometallic cyanometallate clusters with unprecedented complexity, [Fe20Co20] (1) and [Fe12Co15] (2), by creating the “flexibility” through a versatile ligand of bis((1H‐imidazol‐4‐yl)methylene)hydrazine (H2L) and low‐coordinate cobalt. Complex 1 features a super‐square array of four cyanide‐bridged [Fe4Co4] cube subunits as the corners that are interconnected by four additional [FeCo] units, resulting in a torus‐shaped architecture. Complex 2 contains a lantern‐like core‐shell cluster with a triple‐helix kernel of [Co3L3] enveloped by a [Fe12Co12] shell. The combined structure analysis and mass spectrometry study reveal a hierarchical assembly mechanism, which sheds new light on constructing cyanometallate nanoclusters with atomic precision. Moreover, complex 1 undergoes a thermally induced electron‐transfer‐coupled spin transition (ETCST) between the diamagnetic {FeIILS(µ‐CN)CoIIILS} and paramagnetic {FeIIILS(µ‐CN)CoIIHS} configurations (LS = low spin, HS = high spin) above room temperature, representing the largest molecule displaying electron transfer and spin transition characteristic.

Branched chain α-keto acid dehydrogenase kinase (BCKDK) is a key enzyme involved in the metabolism of branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs). Its potential as a therapeutic target and prognostic factor for a variety of cancers has been widely reported. In this study, we investigated the expression of BCKDK in clinical glioma samples and found that BCKDK was significantly overexpressed in glioblastoma (GBM) and was associated with its poor prognosis. We further found that BCKDK is phosphorylated by tyrosine protein kinase Fyn at Y151, which increases its catalytic activity and stability, and demonstrate through in vivo and in vitro experiments that BCKDK phosphorylation promotes GBM cell proliferation. In addition, we found that the levels of the metabolite N-acetyl-L-alanine (NAAL) in GBM cells with high BCKDK were higher than those in the silencing group, and silencing or inhibition of BCKDK promotes the expression of ACY1, an enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of NAAL into acetic acid and alanine. Exogenous addition of NAAL can activate the ERK signaling pathway and promote the proliferation of GBM cells. Taken together, we identified a novel mechanism of BCKDK activation and found NAAL is a novel oncogenic metabolite. Our study confirms the importance of the Fyn-BCKDK-ACY1-NAAL signalling axis in the development of GBM and suggests that p-BCKDK (Y151) and NAAL can serve as potential predictors of GBM progression and prognosis.

we deeply dived multi-phase-based 0.16BaFeO3-0.84MgFe2O4 ferrite for VHF antennas. The structural and magneto-dielectric properties synthesized at various temperatures (1100 °C, 1125 °C, 1150 °C and 1175 °C) were investigated. The results demonstrated the coexistence of hexagonal and cubic spinel phases. Microstructure analysis indicated higher temperature induced lager grain size and denser structure. Meanwhile, both the saturation magnetization (from 28 to 25 emu/g) and coercivity (19–5 Oe) decreased. In addition, real permeability (μ′) and permittivity (ε′) arose at higher temperature, promising equivalent permeability and permittivity. What's more, relatively low magnetic and dielectric losses (tanδμ ∼10−2 to 10−3 and tanδε ∼10−3 to 10−4) promote low energy loss. Finally, a miniaturized antenna with relative bandwidth of 14.6 %, peak gain of 0.98 dB, and radiation efficiency of 74.6 % was simulated based on the processed ferrites. In conclusion, the presented investigation greatly improves the magneto-dielectric response, which paves the way to realize high performance in VHF antenna application.

Abstract Background Crohn’s disease (CD) is an inflammatory disease of the gastrointestinal tract. The disease behavior changes over time, and endoscopy is crucial in evaluating and monitoring the course of CD. To reduce the economic burden of patients and alleviate the discomfort associated with ineffective examination, it is necessary to fully understand the location, extent, and severity of intestinal stenosis in patients with CD before endoscopy. This study aimed to utilize imaging features of magnetic resonance enterography (MRE) to evaluate intestinal stenosis in patients with CD and to predict whether endoscopy could be passed. Methods MRE data of patients with CD were collected, while age, gender, disease duration, and laboratory test parameters were also gathered. Two radiologists analyzed the images and assessed whether endoscopy could be passed based on the imaging performance. Imaging features of MRE were analyzed in groups based on endoscopy results. Results The readers evaluated the imaging performance for 86 patients to determine if endoscopy could be passed and performed a consistency test (compared between two readers k = 0.812, p = 0.000). In the univariate analysis, statistical differences were observed in the degree of T1WI enhancement, thickness of the intestine wall at the stenosis, and diameter of the upstream intestine between the two groups of whether endoscopy was passed. In multivariate logistic regression, the diameter of the upstream intestine was identified to be an independent factor in predicting whether endoscopy was passed or not (OR = 3.260, p = 0.046). Conclusions The utilization of MRE signs for assessing the passage of an endoscope through the narrow segment revealed that the diameter of the upstream intestine emerged as an independent predictor of endoscopic passage. Before performing an endoscopy, MRE can aid in evaluating the passage of the endoscope. Critical relevance statement This retrospective study explored the imaging features of MRE to evaluate intestinal stenosis in patients with Crohn’s disease and determined that the diameter of the upstream intestine of the stenotic segment was an independent predictor in assessing endoscopic passage. Key points • Endoscopy is crucial in evaluating and monitoring the course of Crohn’s disease. • The diameter of the upstream intestine of the stenotic segment was an independent predictor in assessing endoscopic passage. • MRE can aid in evaluating the passage of the endoscope in stenotic segments of Crohn’s disease. High altitude is an independent risk factor for acute kidney injury （AKI）. In early stage, normal kidneys may modulate their functions and structures to adapt to a high plateau. Individuals progressing to AKI have a higher mortality. At the level of kidney, physiological adaptation to a high altitude has been poorly elucidated. Our understanding of kidney injury in a plateau environment is insufficient so that treatment strategy is not targeted. It may easily delay the disease and miss the best time for treatment. This review focused upon changes in renal blood flow, hypoxic renal diuretic effect, renal intrinsic cells and renal tubulointerstitial function of kidneys during a rapid altitude exposure and provided theoretical rationales for managing kidney injury in simulated high-altitude.

Abstract Despite the significant frequency of autonomic dysfunction (AutD) in Parkinson’s disease (PD) patients, its pathogenesis and diagnosis are challenging. Here, we aimed to further explore the mechanism of phosphorylated α-synuclein (p-α-syn) deposited in vagus nerve Schwann cells (SCs) causing SCs damage and PD AutD. 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP, 20 mg/kg) was administrated to C57BL/6 mice twice a week for 35 days. Following the final injection, locomotor functions, gastrointestinal symptoms, urine functions, and cardiovascular system functions were evaluated. Meanwhile, we examined p-α-syn deposited in vagus nerve SCs, Toll-like receptor 2 (TLR2) activation, and SCs loss using immunofluorescence, western blot, and Luxol fast blue staining. In vitro, the rat SCs line RSC96 cells were exposed to α-synuclein preformed fibril (α-syn PFF), and cell viability was detected by CCK8. Co-IP was used to identify the interaction between p-α-syn and TLR2. Furthermore, the role of TLR2 in p-α-syn-mediated SCs damage was confirmed by the administration of CU-CPT22, a specific blocker of TLR2. In vivo, apart from dyskinesia, MPTP mice exhibited constipation, urinary dysfunction, and cardiovascular failure, which were associated with the deposition of p-α-syn in vagus nerve SCs, TLR2 activation, and vagus nerve demyelination. In vitro, stimulation of α-syn PFF induced a time-dependent loss of viability, and p-α-syn deposited in RSC96 cells induced a cellular inflammatory response by interacting with TLR2, resulting in cell dysfunction and apoptosis. However, both SCs inflammatory response and cell viability were alleviated after inhibition of TLR2. Furthermore, 1 h fecal pellets and water content, the frequency of 1 h urine, blood pressure, heart rate, and heart rate variability of mice in the MPTP + CU-CPT22 group were also improved. Our results support the perspective that p-α-syn interacts with TLR2 induced SCs damage and is involved in PD AutD, which sheds fresh light on the mechanism of PD AutD and indicates a promising treatment for PD AutD targeting SCs p-α-syn/ TLR2 signaling pathway.

Abstract In land-based spectral imaging, the spectra of ground objects are inevitably affected by the imaging conditions (weather conditions, atmospheric conditions, light conditions, zenith and azimuth angle conditions) and spatial distribution of targets, leading to uncertainties featured by “same object different spectrum”. That is, the spectrum of a ground object may change within a certain range under different imaging conditions. Traditional target detection (TD) methods are mainly based on similarity measurements and do not fully account for the spectral uncertainties. These detection methods are prone to false detections or missed detections. Therefore, reducing the impact of spectral uncertainties on TD is an important research topic in hyperspectral imaging. In this paper, we first review traditional TD methods and compare their principles and characteristics. It is found that the spectral correlation angle (SCA) method has good adaptability in land-based imaging. The shortcoming of the SCA method that it cannot reflect the local spectrum characteristics, is also analyzed. As the effect of spectral uncertainties cannot be completely overcome by the SCA method, a new similarity measurement method, the weighted spectral correlation angle (WSCA) method, is proposed. It can reduce the influence of spectral uncertainties on TD by increasing the weight of particular bands. Finally, we use two sets of experiments to analyze the effect of the WSCA method on TD. Its performance in overcoming spectral uncertainties caused by variations in imaging conditions or uneven spatial distributions of targets is tested. The results show that the WSCA method can effectively reduce the influence of spectral uncertainties and obtain a good detection result. Graphical Abstract

As the prevalence of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) in the service sector continues to grow, the impact of the language style and recovery strategies utilized during service failures remains insufficiently explored. This study, grounded in the theory of social presence and dual-process theory, employed a mixed-method approach combining questionnaire surveys and event-related potential (ERP) experiments to investigate the effect of different language styles (rational vs. humorous) and recovery strategies (gratitude vs. apology) on users’ willingness to forgive during the GenAI service recovery process. It further delves into the chained mediating role of perceived sincerity and social presence in this process. The findings revealed that a humorous language style was more effective in enhancing users’ willingness to forgive compared to a rational style, primarily through the enhancement of users’ perceived sincerity and sense of social presence; recovery strategies played a moderating role in this process, with the positive impact of perceived sincerity on social presence being significantly amplified when the GenAI service adopted an apology strategy. ERP results indicated that a rational language style significantly induced a larger N2 component (cognitive conflict) in apology scenarios, while a humorous style exhibited higher amplitude in the LPP component (positive emotional evaluation). This research unveils the intricate relationships between language style, recovery strategies, and users’ willingness to forgive in the GenAI service recovery process, providing important theoretical foundations and practical guidance for designing more effective GenAI service recovery strategies, and offering new insights into developing more efficacious GenAI service recovery tactics.

Background: With the rapid expansion of the generative AI market, conducting in-depth research on cognitive conflicts in human–computer interaction is crucial for optimizing user experience and improving the quality of interactions with AI systems. However, existing studies insufficiently explore the role of user cognitive conflicts and the explanation of stance attribution in the design of human–computer interactions. Methods: This research, grounded in mental models theory and employing an improved version of the oddball paradigm, utilizes Event-Related Spectral Perturbations (ERSP) and functional connectivity analysis to reveal how task types and stance attribution explanations in generative AI influence users’ unconscious cognitive processing mechanisms during service failures. Results: The results indicate that under design stance explanations, the ERSP and Phase Locking Value (PLV) in the theta frequency band were significantly lower for emotional task failures than mechanical task failures. In the case of emotional task failures, the ERSP and PLV in the theta frequency band induced by intentional stance explanations were significantly higher than those induced by design stance explanations. Conclusions: This study found that stance attribution explanations profoundly affect users’ mental models of AI, which determine their responses to service failure.

People spend most of their time indoors, and the visual characteristics of indoor building materials affect not only the quality of the indoor environment, but also the well-being of individuals. Ceramic tiles are widely used in interior decoration of buildings due to their aesthetic appeal and ease of maintenance. However, there is currently a lack of a comprehensive framework for assessing the visual comfort of ceramic tile design. This study established an evaluation system using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and the Delphi method to collect perceptual words, extract evaluation indices, and calculate weights. A visual comfort scale for ceramic tiles, comprising three dimensions and twelve indices, was developed. A total of 342 questionnaires were analyzed using six types of tiles, and the multidimensional visual comfort scores of the various ceramic tile samples were statistically examined. An analysis of variance was conducted to investigate the effects of tile brightness, texture, and participant gender on visual comfort. The findings indicate that tile brightness and texture significantly affect the overall visual comfort score (p < 0.001; p < 0.001), with light-toned, non-textured tiles providing higher visual comfort (3.949). Although gender did not significantly affect the overall visual comfort scores, it did influence the evaluation scores in certain dimensions. Men rated the aesthetic comfort of tiles lower than women (p = 0.035), but they rated the emotional comfort of medium-toned and non-textured tiles higher (p = 0.003; p = 0.017). In terms of theoretical significance, the establishment of this evaluation model can expand the research content and methods of ceramic tiles, which are crucial architectural decoration materials. The green and low-carbon development of industrial parks plays an important role in promoting industrial and technological agglomeration, How to optimise their green and low-carbon development pathways is an important management question to be answered, requiring the examination of multiple path based on a histological perspective. Based on the technology–organisation–environment framework, this study selected 29 state-level economic and technological development zones (ETDZs) in China as research objects, and explored multiple sets of paths using fuzzy set qualitative comparison and necessity-contribution analysis. The study found that: 1) four promotion paths can be adopted for green low-carbon development of the zones: endogenous drive, balanced promotion, core support drive and comprehensive drive; 2) single environmental factor does not constitute a bottleneck hindering the green low-carbon development of the zones, which should be combined with the actual situation of the zones, and the balanced enhancement of the effectiveness of green and low-carbon should be realised through measures such as industrial policy, environmental risk prevention, and performance assessment of green policies. Finally, the study proposes the following policy recommendations: industrial parks should focus on the key role of environmental risk prevention, apply a combination of measures in accordance with their own realities, and appropriate external pressure can help promote green and low-carbon development.

This paper introduces a novel approach to attain the shot-noise limit in laser frequency-shift feedback (LFSF) imaging systems by employing a polarization-modulated optical loop. Compared to the traditional LFSF imaging system, the proposed system effectively eliminates detrimental parasitic feedback signals, enhancing both the signal-to-noise ratio and the response range of the LFSF imaging system. Specifically, in the polarization-modulated optical loop, only the measurement light propagating through the loop undergoes efficient modulation, while the parasitic feedback light experiences high-frequency modulation beyond the bandwidth of the photodetector. Experimental findings demonstrate the superiority of our proposed system over traditional LFSF imaging systems in the insensitivity of parasitic feedback, showcasing a higher signal-to-noise ratio and response range. Moreover, the proposed system achieved a distinctive polarization imaging technique, which exhibits the capability to discern and analyze the distinct specular reflection and depolarized scattering components in the measurement light, thus providing more comprehensive target information.

Abstract Background Patients with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs) are at increased risk of pancreatitis. Data from a global safety database (GSD) were queried to identify risk factors for pancreatitis in vedolizumab-treated patients with IBD. Methods Takeda’s GSD was retrospectively queried for case reports (CRs) of adverse events (AEs) following vedolizumab treatment, from licensure (May 20, 2014) through March 31, 2021. Unsolicited and solicited CRs of pancreatitis were coded using the Medical Dictionary for Regulatory Activities (MedDRA) High-Level Term “Acute and chronic pancreatitis.” To examine factors associated with severe pancreatitis, serious CRs (serious AEs [SAEs]) were compared with SAEs from a comparator group of 600 random non-pancreatitis AEs. Comparisons were performed using t, χ 2, and Fisher’s exact tests. Logistic regression was performed to adjust for covariates allowing backward selection. Results In total, 196 patients reported pancreatitis in > 700,000 patient-years of vedolizumab exposure. Pancreatitis was serious in 195 patients (99.5%), and non-pancreatitis AEs were serious in 195 of 600 (32.5%) in the random comparator group. In the pancreatitis group, 17 patients (8.7%) had a known history of pancreatitis versus none in the random comparator group. Younger age, vedolizumab indication of ulcerative colitis, concomitant medications (with a risk for pancreatitis), pancreatitis history, and comorbid conditions (especially ongoing pancreatitis) were associated with development of severe pancreatitis. Conclusions These analyses identified factors associated with pancreatitis SAEs in patients with IBD treated with vedolizumab, but do not suggest an increased risk of pancreatitis with vedolizumab. These findings will help inform which patients treated for IBD might have an elevated risk, regardless of treatment.

Abstract Background Oro-gastrointestinal stress in the digestive tract is the main stress to which orally administered probiotics are exposed. The regulation of oro-gastrointestinal transit (OGT) stress on the adhesion and survival of probiotics under continuous exposure to simulated salivary-gastric juice-intestinal juice was researched in this study. Results Lactobacillus plantarum S7 had a higher survival rate after exposure to simulated OGT1 (containing 0.15% bile salt) stress and OGT2 (containing 0.30% bile salt) stress. The adhesion ability of L. plantarum S7 was significantly increased by OGT1 stress (P 0.05), and this trend was also observed in terms of the thickness of the surface material of L. plantarum S7 cells. Abstract A patented strain of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens C-1 in our laboratory could produce functional sodium selenite (Na2SeO3) under optimized fermentation conditions. With the strong stress resistance and abundant secondary metabolites, C-1 showed potential to be developed as selenium-enriched postbiotics. C-1 has the ability to synthesize SeNPs when incubated with 100 μg/ml Na2SeO3 for 30 h at 30 °C aerobically with 10% seeds-culture. The transformation rate from Na2SeO3 into SeNPs reached to 55.51%. After selenium enrichment, there were no significant morphology changes in C-1 cells but obvious SeNPs accumulated inside of cells, observed by scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscope, verified by energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. SeNPs had antioxidant activity in radical scavenge of superoxide (O2 −), Hydroxyl radical (OH−) and 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazine (DPPH), where scavenging ability of OH− is the highest. Islet transplant has proven to be one promising strategy for diabetes treatment with minimal invasiveness, which restore the patient's endocrine function and avoid exogenous insulin injection. In the past decades, the ever-increasing diabetic population has brought more demand for this technology, therefore, accelerating the development of numerous engineering technologies optimizing the transplantation efficiency. In this review, we summarized the emerging engineering approaches in this field, aiming to provide a general understanding of islet transplantation challenges and the cutting edge of engineering technologies. Firstly, we introduced the islet product sources used for transplantation and analyzed their respective advantages and disadvantages. Afterwards, we focused on the advanced engineering strategies for maintaining islet graft viability and function in the transplantation. Finally, we summarized the engineering challenges and potential research directions in this field.

Iron slag, a byproduct of the wet zinc refining process, contains a substantial amount of valuable metals such as iron and zinc, making it highly valuable for comprehensive recovery and reuse. However, before recovery, the iron slag requires dehydration pretreatment. The water content in iron slag remains relatively high and difficult to remove even after pressure filtration, leading to extended drying times, reduced drying efficiency, and increased energy consumption. This study explores a novel ultrasonic pretreatment process for iron slag. Using the response surface methodology, we investigated the effects of ultrasonic power, ultrasonic time, liquid-to-solid ratio, and their interactions on the water content, capillary suction time (CST), and filtration resistance of the slag. Regression equations were established to predict the relationships between the water content, CST, filtration resistance, and the various factors. The optimal process parameters were determined as an ultrasonic power of 60 W, ultrasonic time of 22 s, and a liquid-to-solid ratio of 4:1. Under these conditions, the dehydration performance of the iron slag was optimal. The measured values closely matched the predicted values, demonstrating the reliability of the model and the feasibility of the optimized process. Our study of the mechanism of ultrasonic action on iron slag found that under the influence of ultrasonic waves, the particle size of the slag significantly decreased, and the particle morphology changed. Compared to conventional drying, the drying rate of the iron slag after ultrasonic pretreatment was accelerated, and the drying time was reduced.

Laser-beam powder bed fusion (PBF-LB) technique was used to produce an Al–2.5 %Fe–2 %Cu ternary alloy, featuring a two-phase eutectic composition of α-Al/Al23CuFe4 in non-equilibrium solidification, as determined by thermodynamic calculations. The specimen manufactured by PBF-LB exhibited a high tensile strength exceeding 350 MPa and a low thermal conductivity of approximately 140 W m−1 K−1. Subsequent annealing at 300 °C improved the thermal conductivity to 175 W m−1 K−1 without compromising the strength. This improvement was attributable to forming numerous Al23CuFe4 nanoprecipitates, which consumed solute elements. By appropriately managing the factors contributing to strengthening, a superior strength–conductivity balance can be achieved by implementing post-heat treatments.
