Introduction: Awareness of Indonesian people in maintaining dental and oral health is low, proved by an increase in the percentage of dental and oral health problems by 2.7%. Caries is a dental and oral health problem that occurs in many children. The main cause of dental caries is Streptococcus mutans. To solve this problem, it is necessary to use herbal mouthwash made from a combination of Camellia sinensis and Mentha piperita extract as an antibacterial against Streptococcus mutans. Methods: Mouthwash is made through several processes namely plant determination, extraction, and mouthwash making. Minimal Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) is determined by diluted methods, Minimal Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) is determined by the agar streaking method, and colony tests are calculated using colony counters. Results: The result of plant determination showed the plants in this study were Camellia sinensis and Mentha piperita. At a concentration of 6.25%, no growth of bacteria in each repetition with the number of colonies 0 CFU / ml. While at a concentration of 3.125% found the average number of colonies 13 CFU / ml. Conclusions: Based on good MIC and MBC results, mouthwash containing Camellia sinensis and Mentha piperita has been shown to kill and inhibit the growth of Streptococcus mutans bacteria

Latar Belakang: Lamtoro (Leucaena leucocephala) merupakan tumbuhan yang umum di indonesia. Tanaman ini selain bisa dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan pangan, daunnya juga sering dipakai masyarakat indonesia sebagai obat luka atau memar. Salah satu bakteri yang umumnya terdapat dalam luka adalah Staphylococcus aureus. Oleh karena itu, peneliti menduga bahwa ekstrak daun lamtoro memiliki aktivitas antibakteri terhadap Staphylococcus aureus. Tujuan: Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menguji aktivitas antibakteri daun lamtoro terhadap Staphylococcus aureus dengan metode dilusi. Metode: Ekstrak kental lamtoro dibuatkan seri pengenceran pada medium cair. Bakteri uji kemudian ditambahkan dengan proporsi yang sama pada setiap tabung. Tabung dengan konsentrasi ekstrak terendah yang masih terlihat jernih ditetapkan sebagai KHM. Selanjutnya dilakukan streaking pada media biakan. Setelah inkubasi, media dengan konsentrasi terendah yang tidak didapati pertumbuhan koloni ditetapkan sebagai KBM. Hasil: Kekeruhan yang disebabkan ekstrak tidak dapat dibedakan dengan kekeruhan yang disebabkan bakteri, sehingga KHM tidak dapat ditentukan. Dari hasil kultur, didapatkan pertumbuhan koloni pada seluruh media biakan, sehingga KBM juga tidak dapat ditentukan. Hasil hitung koloni menghasilkan bahwa ekstrak tidak membunuh bakteri namun masih dapat menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri tersebut paling optimal pada konsentrasi 125 mg/mL dan 62,5 mg/mL. Kesimpulan: KHM dan KBM ekstrak daun lamtoro terhadap Staphylococcus aureus pada penelitian ini tidak dapat ditentukan. Ekstrak lamtoro tidak membunuh Staphylococcus aureus, namun masih dapat menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri tersebut, paling optimal pada konsentrasi 125 mg/mL dan 62,5 mg/mL.

Karies gigi merupakan masalah kesehatan yang disebabkan Streptococcus mutans. Salah satu upaya mencegah karies gigi adalah melalui penggunaan mouthwash. Oleh karena mouthwash di pasaran tinggi alkohol sehingga meningkatkan risiko kanker mulut, maka diperlukan formulasi mouthwash berbahan dasar tanaman herbal. Tanaman herbal yang memiliki aktivitas antibakteri diantaranya teh hijau (Camellia sinensis) dan peppermint (Mentha piperita). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas mouthwash ekstrak teh hijau dan peppermint sebagai antibakteri terhadap Streptococcus mutans. Aktivitas antibakteri ditentukan melalui pengukuran zona hambat pada uji difusi. Mouthwash dibuat dalam 5 formula yaitu F1, F2, F3, F4, F5 dengan konsentrasi 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, dan 100%. Dibuat pula FA (mouthwash ekstrak teh hijau 20%) dan FB (mouthwash ekstrak peppermint 20%) sebagai pembanding. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa semakin tinggi konsentrasi ekstrak teh hijau dan peppermint maka semakin besar diameter zona hambat. Rata rata zona hambat F1 dan F2 8,34 dan 9,80 mm (daya hambat sedang). Rata rata zona hambat F3, F4 dan F5 masing masing 11,64 mm, 14,63 mm dan 15,91 mm (daya hambat kuat). Rata rata zona hambat FA dan FB 7,45 dan 6,20 mm (daya hambat sedang). Berdasarkan hasil tersebut disimpulkan bahwa mouthwash ekstrak Camellia sinensis dan Mentha piperita efektif sebagai antibakteri terhadap Streptococcus mutans.

Background: Surgical site infections (SSIs) are common surgical complications that will increase cost of treatment. The incidence of SSI can be prevented with antibiotic prophylactic. Uncompliance using of prophylactic antibiotics is one of the factors leading to the occurrence a microbes resistance. The data on the using of prophylactic antibiotics in Indonesia is still limited. Objective: This study aims to analyze the using of prophylactic antibiotic guideline on orthopaedic surgery. Methods: The study was conducted retrospectively using data from medical records on patients who had clean and clean-contaminated orthopedic procedures from 2013 to 2016 in the standard operating room of Dr. Soetomo hospital Surabaya. We analyzed the use of prophylactic antibiotics in terms of antibiotic selection, timing of administration, and the compliance to the prophylactic antibiotic local guidelines on orthopaedic surgery. Results: Overall, patient data from 2013 to 2016 was 5246 patients. The compliance rate of prophylactic antibiotics from 2013 to 2016 was 48.3%. This level of compliance uses a selection of antibiotics, dose of administration, delivery mode, delivery time, and route of administration. Conclusion: The results of this study have shown that the prophylactic antibiotic compliance rate on orthophaedic procedures in Soetomo Hospital from 2013 to 2016 was 48,3%. Antibiotic resistance control program quite effective at increasing compliance with the use of the prophylaxis antibiotics.

Tumor otak meliputi berbagai kanker yang tumbuh dari sel otak (tumor otak primer) ataupun berasal dari tumor sistemik yang mengalami metastasis ke otak (tumor otak sekunder). Dari seluruh tipe tumor otak primer, Glioblastoma Multiforme merupakan tumor otak yang paling sering dijumpai dan merupakan salah satu yang paling ganas. Pada 85% kasus Glioblastoma Multiforme, umumnya ditemukan kaitan dengan adanya gangguan tingkat molekuler pada jalur tumor suppresor gene p53, sehingga semakin banyak terapi yang dikembangkan dengan berfokus pada jalur ini. Salah satu jalur yang dapat dipakai sebagai model terapi adalah menginhibisi protein murine double minute 2 yang merupakan inhibitor dari p53. Kunyit (curcuma longa) adalah salah satu tanamantradisional yang sudah sangat sering digunakan dalam dunia medis dan berbagai ekstrak nya telah diteliti mempunyai efek anti-kanker. Penelitian ini adalah sebuah studi in silico yang meneliti potensi berbagai bahan kimia aktif dari kunyit sebagai inhibitor pada protein murine double minute 2menggunakan AutoDock 4.2 dan berdasarkan prinsip algoritma genetik Lamarckian. Hasil docking menunjukkan binding energy berkisar dari rentang -4.81 kcal/mol sampai -2.34 kcal/mol, dengan senyawa curcumenol mempunyai binding energy yang paling kecil dan curcumin mempunyai binding energy yang paling besar. Klebsiella pneumoniae as an opportunistic pathogen can cause nosocomial infection. The main concern on this bacterium is directed on the extended-spectrum β-Lactamase (ESBL)-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae. The therapy of ESBL-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae infections is very limited because of its multidrug resistance. It had been found new local isolates Streptomyces sp-MWS1, Streptomyces sp-MWS3, and Streptomyces sp-MWS6 in mangrove East Coast of Surabaya. These isolates have potential to produce antibiotics (Retnowati, 2008). This study was aimed to prove these isolates may inhibit the growth of ESBL-producing Klebsiella pneumonia. The test of antibacterial activity of Streptomyces sp-MWS1, Streptomyces sp-MWS3, and Streptomyces sp-MWS6 using the modification Agar print method against clinical isolates of ESBL-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae. The diameter of inhibition zone (mm) formed shows activity of these isolates. The profiles of antibacterial activity of Streptomyces sp-MWS1, Streptomyces sp-MWS3, and Streptomyces sp-MWS6 were different in terms of periode required to reach peak activity, duration of activity and inhibition zone diameter produced during 10 days of observation. Streptomyces sp-MWS3 reached the peak activity most rapidly on day 3 with the largest inhibition zone diameter of 9 mm in ESBL-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae. There were significant differences in inhibition zone diameter between Streptomyces sp-MWS1, Streptomyces sp-MWS3, and Streptomyces sp-MWS6 against ESBL-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae.

Klebsiella pneumoniae Extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL) was one of the microorganism that cause nosocomial infection which resistant to beta-lactams antibiotics. Orange Jessamine (Murraya paniculata) was traditional medicine which believed has antibacterial components, such as: fl avonoids, alkaloids, essential oils, coumarins, terpenoids, tannins, and saponins. In the previous studies, there was antibacterial activity in ethanolic extract of Murraya paniculata againsts E.coli, K.pneumoniae, S.typhi, E.faecalis, P.aeruginosa, S.fl exneri, S.aureus, and S.sonneii with concentration 200 mg/ mL. There has not experiment about ethanolic extract of Murraya paniculata against Klebsiella pneumoniae ESBL yet. The aim of this study was to fi nd out the in vitro antibacterial activity of ethanol extracts of Murraya Paniculata against Klebsiella pneumoniae ESBL Broth dilution method with concentration 200 mg/mL, 100 mg/mL, 50 mg/mL, 25 mg/mL, 12,5 mg/mL, 6,25 mg/mL, and 3,125 mg/mL were used for the determination of the Minimal Inhibitory Concentration (MIC). While the Minimal Bacterial Concentration (MBC) was assessed using streaking method in Nutrient Agar Plate. The highest concentration in this study was obtained from 100 g of Murraya paniculata leaves dissolved in 500 mL of 40% ethanol. The study was carried out 4 times replication. At the time of the sterility test extract, germ growth appeared on Nutrient Agar Plate media, so the extract was fi ltered before being used for research. After incubation at 37 °C for 24 hours, growth of bacterial colonies on all agar plates was observed. The concentration of the ethanol extract of Murraya Paniculata (200 mg/mL) did not inhibit the growth of Klebsiella pneumoniae ESBL. The ethanol extracts of Murraya paniculata in concentration 200 mg/mL had no antibacterial activity against Klebsiella pneumoniae ESBL.

Objective: The objective of this research was to determine the atheroprotective effect of Solanum betaceum ethanol extract toward carotid arteryintima-media thickness (cIMT) and the level of malondialdehyde (MDA) on rats exposed to cigarette smoke.Methods: Thirty adult Rattus norvegicus strain Wistar were divided into five groups and exposed to cigarette smoke, 3 pc cigarette/day andsimultaneously administered with S. betaceum in Group K2, K3, and K4 (100 mg/kg b.w/day; 200 mg/kg b.w/day; and 400 mg/kg b.w/day),respectively. Staphylococcus aureus is a gram-positive bacteria, a normal flora of the body that can cause infection in various organs and has the potential to become resistant to antibiotics. Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is one of the herbs that has antibacterial effects and is often used by Madurese people as a traditional medicine. It is suspected that geographical differences and the natural conditions in which turmeric grows can affect its compounds and properties. This study aims to analyze the ethanolic extract of turmeric from Madura as an antibacterial against S. aureus. An in vitro laboratory research using agar well diffusion method was conducted with the concentration of turmeric extract used 20%, 40%, 80%, and 100%. The positive control used was penicillin. The negative control in this study was 100% DMSO. The results showed inhibition zone at concentrations of 20% (11.86 mm), 40% (12.04 mm), 80% (12.53 mm), and 100% (10.97 mm). The diameter obtained was lower than the positive control penicillin which was 27.59 mm. Turmeric extract (Curcuma longa) from Madura has antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus.

Staphylococcus aureus merupakan flora normal kulit manusia yang bisa menyebabkan infeksi ketika sistem imun tubuh manusia sedang lemah. Pengobatan Staphylococcus aureus tergolong sulit karena Staphylococcus aureus mudah resisten terhadap beberapa antibiotik sehingga dikenal istilah Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Vancomycin-intermediate Staphylococcus aureus (VISA), dan Vancomycin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (VRSA) yang menunjukkan resistensi tersebut. Pertumbuhan Staphylococcus aureus dapat dihambat ekstrak daun petai cina ( Leucaena leucocephala). Tanaman petai cina ( Leucaena leucocephala) digunakan masyarakat Indonesia sebagai obat tradisional untuk menyembuhkan luka, mengobati cacingan, dan mengobati jerawat. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri ekstrak biji petai cina (Leucaena leucocephala) dalam menghambat pertumbuhan Staphylococcus aureus. Penelitian ini merupakan eksperimental laboratorium dengan metode dilusi sebanyak 6 replikasi. Setiap replikasi menggunakan konsentrasi ekstrak biji petai cina (Leucaena leucocephala) sebesar 3,125%, 6,25%, 12,5%, 25%, 50%, dan 100% untuk mencari konsentrasi hambat minimal dan konsentrasi bunuh minimal terhadap Staphylococcus aureus. Hasil penelitian tidak dapat menentukan konsentrasi hambat minimal (KHM) ekstrak biji petai cina ( Leucaena leucocephala) terhadap Staphylococcus aureus karena warna ekstrak yang gelap. Sedangkan konsentrasi bunuh minimal (KBM) ekstrak biji petai cina (Leucaena leucocephala) terhadap Staphylococcus aureus ditemukan pada konsentrasi 50%, yang menunjukkan bahwa konsentrasi 50% adalah konsentrasi terkecil dimana tidak terdapat pertumbuhan bakteri Staphylococcus aureus . Sebagai simpulan, ekstrak biji petai cina (Leucaena leucocephala) memiliki aktivitas antibakteri terhadap Staphylococcus aureus. Staphylococcus aureus treatment is difficult because Staphylococcus aureus is easily resistant to some antibiotics so several terms such as Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Vancomycin-intermediate Staphylococcus aureus (VISA), and Vancomycin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (VRSA) are known to indicate the resistance . The growth of Staphylococcus aureus can be inhibited by Leucaena leucocephala leaf extract. Leucaena leucocephala is used by Indonesian people as traditional medicine to heal wounds, treat worm infection, and treat acne. The objective of this study was to identify the antibacterial activity of Leucaena leucocephala seed extract against Staphylococcus aureus . This was a laboratory experimental study using dilution method as many as five replications. Each replication used Leucaena leucocephala seed extract in concentrations of 3.125%, 6.25%, 12.5%, 25%, 50%, and 100% to determine the minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) and the minimal bactericidal concentration (MBC) against Staphylococcus aureus. The results were not able to determine the minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) of Leucaena leucocephala seed extract against Staphylococcus aureus due to dark color of the extract. While the minimal bactericidal concentration (MBC) of Leucaena leucocephala seed extract against Staphylococcus aureus was 50%. This showed that the concentration of 50% was the lowest concentration where there was no growth of the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus . Aloe vera merupakan tanaman herbal yang mengandung beberapa zat aktif yang telah terbukti mempunyai efek antibakteri untuk berbagai macam bakteri. Dapat ditemukan banyak infeksi yang disebabkan oleh bakteri gram negatif. Beberapa bakteri gram negatif ini memproduksi enzim β lactamase mutan, yang diketahui sebagai Extended Spectrum Beta Lactamase (ESBL). Bakteri ESBL resisten terhadap beberapa macam antibiotik dalam golongan beta laktam, hal ini menjadi salah satu permasalahan utama di rumah sakit. Berdasarkan latar belakang yang ada, tujuan dari studi ini adalah untuk membandingkan efek antibakteri dari ekstrak etanol daun lidah buaya terhadap Escherichia coli ESBL dan Klebsiella pneumoniae ESBL. Studi ini merupakan eksperimental laboratorium. Konsentrasi Hambat Minimal (KHM) dan Konsentrasi Bunuh Minimal (KBM) ditentukan dengan metode dilusi. Konsentrasi yang digunakan pada penentuan KHM untuk kedua bakteri adalah 90%; 80%; 70%; 60%; 50%; 40%; 30%; dan 20%. Penentuan KBM dilakukan dengan cara penanaman suspensi dari muller hinton broth pada nutrient agar plate . Hasil yang didapatkan dianalisis menggunakan metode deskripsi. KHM untuk kedua bakteri ditemukan pada konsentrasi yang sama yaitu 80% (8 g ml-1). KBM untuk kedua bakteri juga ditemukan pada konsentrasi yang sama yaitu 80% (8 g ml-1). Penentuan KHM dan KBM dilakukan sebanyak 10 kali replikasi. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa ektrak etanol daun lidah buaya tidak mempunyai efektivitas yang berbeda terhadap Escherichia coli ESBL dan Klebsiella pneumoniae ESBL. Aloe vera is a herbal which has some active substances that have been proven for its antibacterial effect for some bacterias. There are many infections caused by gram negative bacterias. Some of gram negative bacterias produce mutant β lactamase enzyme, that known as Extended Spectrum Beta Lactamase (ESBL). ESBL bacteria are resistant to some antibiotics in beta lactam class and become one of main problem in hospital. Based on this background, the aim of this study was to compare the antibacterial activity of aloe vera leaves ethanol extract between Escherichia coli ESBL and Klebsiella pneumoniae ESBL. This study was a lab experimental. Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) values and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) values were determined by dilution method. The concentration used in MIC determination for both bacteria is 90%; 80%; 70%; 60%; 50%; 40%; 30%; and 20%. The MBC values were determined by suspension streaking from muller hinton broth on nutrient agar plate. The result is analyzed with description method. The MIC value for Escherichia coli ESBL and Klebsiella pneumoniae ESBL is found in the same concentration which is 80% (8 g ml-1). The MBC values for Escherichia coli ESBL and Klebsiella pneumoniae ESBL also found in the same concentration 80% (8 g ml-1). MIC and MBC values have been proved in the first until tenth replications. Thus, aloe vera leaves ethanol extract has no different effectiveness against Escherichia coli ESBL and Klebsiella pneumoniae ESBL. Infeksi adalah salah satu dari isu kesehatan yang disebabkan oleh mikroorganisme patogen dan salah satu mikroorganisme yang tersering adalah Streptococcus. Terdapat 616 kasus faringitis di dunia yang disebabkan oleh Streptococcus. Penyakit tersebut dapat menimbulkan berbgai komplikasi lain bila tidak diterapi dengan baik. Pengobatan menggunakan antibiotik memiliki risiko terjadinya resistensi. Oleh sebab itu, diperlukan pengembangan penelitian pada herbal sebagai pengobatan. Bunga kamboja putih (Plumeria alba) diketahui memiliki aktivitas antibakteri melawan berbagai macam mikroorganisme. Dengan latar belakang tersebut, tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menentukan adanya aktivitas antimikroba dari Plumeria alba terhadap Streptococcus pyogenes yang dapat diamati dari Konsentrasi Hambat Minimum (KHM) dan Konsentrasi Bunuh Minimum (KBM). Penelitian ini dikerjakan menggunakan metode eksperimental. Metode dilusi agar digunakan untuk menentukan KHM dan KBM. Konentrasi yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah 250 mg/ml, 125 mg/ml, 62,50 mg/ml, 31.25 mg/ml, 15,63 mg/m, 7,81 mg/ml, 3,91 mg/ml, 1,95 mg/ml, 0,98 mg/ml, kontrol positif (+) dan kontrol negatif (-). Melalui observasi dari penelitian ini, KHM tidak dapat ditentukan. Nilai dari KBM adalah 7,81 mg/ml yang menunjukkan konsentrasi dimana tidak didapatkan pertumbuhan koloni bakteri. Ekstrak etanol dari bunga kamboja putih (Plumeria alba) memiliki aktivitas antimikroba terhadapt Streptococcus pyogenes. Dalam studi in vitro ini menggunakan metode dilusi agar, KBM untuk Streptococcus pyogenes adalah 7,81 mg/ml.Kata Kunci: Bakteri patogen, telepon genggam, identifikasi bakteriAbstract. Recently people use mobile phone in the places that have a high density of microorganisms such as in the hospital, in the kitchen, and in the toilet. Some studied stated that mobile phones played a role in transmission of pathogenic bacteria. Brady et al., reported that 9% to 25% of mobile phones were contaminated with pathogenic bacteria. This research was based on experimental laboratory. The samples were mobile phone, swabbed by wet sterile cotton bud and placed on MacConkey Agar plate and Blood Agar plate. The isolated bacteria were checked by Gram stained. Catalase test for Gram-positive cocci bacteria and specific biochemical test for Gram-negative bacilli bacteria were used to determine the genus of the bacteria. The samples were mobile phone belong to 2014-entering-year students of Medical Faculty of Airlangga University. The sampling method was simple random sampling. This experiment found that 100% of the samples were Staphylococcus spp. positive, 3,3% were Shigella spp. positive and 3,3% were Proteus spp. positive. From this experiment could be concluded that mobile phone belong to 2014-entering-year students of Medical Faculty of Airlangga University were contaminated by pathogenic bacteria. The result of this experiment found that Shigella spp. and Proteus spp. were pathogenic bacteria on mobile phone belong to 2014-entering-year students of Medical Faculty of Airlangga University. Konentrasi yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah 250 mg/ml, 125 mg/ml, 62,50 mg/ml, 31.25 mg/ml, 15,63 mg/m, 7,81 mg/ml, 3,91 mg/ml, 1,95 mg/ml, 0,98 mg/ml, kontrol positif (+) dan kontrol negatif (-).Melalui observasi dari penelitian ini, KHM tidak dapat ditentukan. Nilai dari KBM adalah 7,81 mg/ml yang menunjukkan konsentrasi dimana tidak didapatkan pertumbuhan koloni bakteri. Ekstrak etanol dari bunga kamboja putih ( Plumeria alba ) memiliki aktivitas antimikroba terhadapt Streptococcus pyogenes. Dalam studi in vitro ini menggunakan metode dilusi agar, KBM untuk Streptococcus pyogenes adalah 7,81 mg/ml.

Staphylococcus aureus merupakan salah satu flora normal pada kulit, membran mukosa, orofaring, saluran pencernaan dan vagina yang berpotensi menjadi patogen. Pertumbuhan S. aureus yang berlebihan dapat menimbulkan infeksi yang serius baik di manusia atau hewan. Dan sekarang, beberapa S. aureus dikabarkan telah resisten terhadap antibiotik karena proses mutasi. Berdasarkan hal tersebut, penulis mencoba memberi alternatif pengobatan dengan memanfaatkan ekstrak etanol gel Aloe vera yang menurut beberapa penulis lain, gel Aloe vera mengandung antraquinone, tannin, polysaccharide, flavonoid, and saponin yang bersifat sebagai antibakteri . Jenis penelitian ini adalah eksperimental laboratorium dengan metode difusi dan dilusi. Penelitian ini menggunakan konsentrasi 100%, 75%, 50%, 25%, dan 0% pada metode difusi. Sementara itu metode dilusi menggunakan konsentrasi 100%, 50%, 25%, 12,5%, 6,25%, 3,125%, 1,5625% kontrol positif (+), dan kontrol negatif (-).Dari pengamatan hasil penelitian, tidak didapatkan zona inhibisi pada metode difusi serta tidak dapat ditentukan konsentrasi hambat minimum (KHM) dan konsentrasi bunuh minimum (KBM) terhadap pertumbuhan Staphylococcus aureus . Hal ini terkait dengan rendahnya senyawa aktif yang digunakan di sampel gel Aloe vera dalam penelitian ini akibat pengaruh dari faktor lingkungan, perbedaan usia tanaman dengan literatur awal, proses degradasi dan reaksi enzimatik, adanya perbedaan metode ekstraksi, serta proses oksidasi saat terpapar oleh udara. Berdasarkan hal tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa aktivitas antibakteri dari ekstrak etanol gel Aloe vera terhadap Staphylococcus aureus tidak dapat ditentukandengan metode difusi dan metode dilusi. Staphylococcus aureus is one of the normal flora in human skin, mucous membrane, oropharynx, gastrointestinal tract, and vagina which potentially becomes a pathogen. The excessive growth of S. aureus can cause many serious infection whether in human or animal. And nowadays, some of S.aureus have become resistant to antibiotic caused by its mutation. According to that case, researcher try to find an alternative solution by using Aloe vera gel ethanol extract that some other researchers say it contains antraquinone, tannin, polysaccharide, flavonoid, and saponin as anti bacterial compound. This research aimed to find out the effectiveness of Aloe vera gel ethanol extract in inhibiting Staphylococcus aureus.This research is designed as an laboratorium experimental with difusion and dilusion method. Test performed with using 100%, 75%, 50%, 25%, and 0% concentration in difusion method and using 100%, 50%, 25%, 12,5%, 6,25%, 3,125%, 1,5625% concentration , positive control (+) and negative control (-) in dilution method. There is no inhibition zone in difusion method, also no minimum inhibitory concentration and no bactericidal concentration can be seen in dilution method that inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus. This result might be related to the minimal amount of active compound in this sample, that is taken from Aloe vera gel. The amount of active compound can be influenced by the environment, difference in Aloe’s age, degradation process and enzymatic reaction, difference in extraction method and also influenced by oxidation process when it’s exposed to air. Based on the results, anti bacterial activity of Aloe vera gel ethanol extract towards Staphylococcus aureus can not be determined in difusion and dilution method.
