A single dose of 50 milligrams of rofecoxib is effective in treating postoperative pain following dental surgery. This was the conclusion of researchers who evaluated dosages ranging from 7.5 milligrams to 500 milligrams. Rofecoxib belongs to a class of drugs called COX-2 inhibitors.

22. The Impact of Career Planning of Graduates on Job Satisfaction: Evidence from China

Abstract

The current economic environment is so complex that many graduates are experiencing changes in education policy and the diversification of the labour market. Consequently, the career planning of graduates and employees’ satisfaction with the job have become two important topics that cannot be overlooked. However, research on the relationship between career planning of graduates and job satisfaction is still scarce. Thus, the main purpose of this study is to investigate whether the career planning of graduates has an impact on job satisfaction. The study also compares the demographic characteristics of graduates’ career planning and job satisfaction. The data used in this study was derived from 200 online questionnaires, which were filled out by Chinese employees who graduated within three years. Career planning was assessed on a 16-items scale, and the job satisfaction scale was quoted from the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ). There are three main findings drawn in this paper: 1) the degree of career planning of graduates is different depending on different ages and levels of education; 2) people of different ages, levels of education, length of employment (in the current organisation) and occupational types reflect different levels of job satisfaction; 3) self-assessment, information gathering, goal setting, and strategy formulation in the career planning process of graduates have positive impacts on job satisfaction. Based on these findings, this paper encourages graduates to make adequate career planning before employment, and hopes that universities and enterprises can pay more attention to the career planning of graduates.

23. Multivariate parallel line bioassays in complete and incomplete block designs.

Abstract

This dissertation focuses on the methodologies in the analyses of multivariate parallel line bioassays in both complete and incomplete block designs. Rao (1954), Das (1966), Finney (1978), Hubert (1984), Volund (1980) and many others have provided some results in this area. Their work is briefly introduced and summarized. Next, we consider the analysis of parallel line bioassays with multiple responses by using a composite response as proposed by Finney (1978). However, Finney gives only an approximate method of obtaining the variance for the estimated relative potency in this case. We provide canonical forms of the estimated relative potency by using a series of random orthogonal transformations. This leads to various approaches for obtaining its exact variance. This dissertation provides a unified theory of the analysis of data from experiments designed to estimate the relative potency of a test preparation when the experiment is carried out in a very general incomplete block design. The theory is developed by superimposing the incomplete block design model (or even a confounded factorial design model) on a response surface/growth curve type model. Validity tests for linearity and parallelism are then discussed for this model. Estimation of the relative potency using recovery of interblock information when blocks are random is also discussed. Finally, the extension of this approach to multivariate parallel line bioassays is discussed. Occasionally a multivariate bioassay has multiple doses and multiple responses. Such a situation arises, for example, when a drug is made up of several ingredients with different doses. A procedure for combining multiple responses and combining multiple doses optimally is proposed, in order to obtain point and interval estimates of the relative potency. A composite response and a composite dose for this purpose are obtained by using canonical correlations and canonical variables as in the case of discriminant analysis for more than two groups. Topics of interest for future research are also discussed.
