Abstract

Iron(III)- and iodide-promoted efficient synthesis of pyrimidines from biomass-based alkyl lactates, inorganic ammonium, and aldehydes was carried out. This multicomponent reaction efficiently proceeded through a series of condensation, dehydrogenation coupling, and condensation steps to form C–N and C–C bonds, respectively. This protocol strikingly features sustainable catalysis using Earth-abundant metals and NH4I as a substrate and catalyst. When using biomass-based alkyl lactate as a raw material, the alkyl lactate can be reused, and clean byproducts can be obtained. More than 30 pyrimidines and 7 triazines were synthesized in isolated yields of up to 92%. In addition, the analysis of several dimensions of green indicators proves the greenness of this work. Abstract

An organocatalytic [4 + 2] cascade annulation of salicylaldehydes and 1,3-bisarylsulfonylpropenes has been developed. This protocol enables the efficient and straightforward synthesis of a new series of 3-sulfonyl-2-sulfonylmethyl-2H-chromenes that are useful for exploring pharmacologically valued compounds. Further reductive modifications result in 3-desulfonylated chromene or chromane derivatives. This protocol can be expanded to the synthesis of 3-sulfonyl-2-sulfonylmethyl 1,2-dihydroquinoline. Abstract

Summary: This work aimed to prepare a controlled‐release antibacterial food packaging film by solvent volatilisation using chitosan (CS) and acidified modified montmorillonite (MMt) loaded with CIN (acid‐MMt‐CIN). MMt was successfully acidified and CIN was successfully loaded into acid‐MMt, which had been confirmed by X‐ray diffraction. The coordination of acid‐MMt‐CIN significantly increased the barrier properties of CS film to water vapour, as well as the rigidity and ductility of the film. Furthermore, the CS/acid‐MMt‐CIN film could significantly improve their UV resistance. It was found that the CIN release time of CS/acid‐MMt‐CIN film in isooctane (simulated fatty food) could reach 168 h, which was 72 h longer than that of CS/CIN film. The addition of acid‐MMt‐CIN had a significant inhibitory effect on Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. In short, CS/acid‐MMt‐CIN film could potentially be used as an antibacterial active food packaging film. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

A relatively high molecular weight of 4-arm star PELA was obtained by ring-opening polymerization of l -lactic acid O -carboxyanhydride with 4-arm-PEG in the presence of DMAP as an initiator. The results via 1 H NMR and 13 C NMR show that the end of the star PELA chain is a hydroxyl group and the central core is a PEG group. Rotavirus (strain SA11) was incorporated into 4-arm star PELA microspheres formulated by the water in oil in water emulsification solvent extraction method. The microspheres produced were spherical, and the mean diameter was 1.34 μm with a narrow size distribution. The drug release profile displayed a low burst release effect of 1.8% on the first day and a sustained release of antigen over 100 days. After the immunization of mice, the microsphere-entrapped RV elicited improved and long-lasting IgA and IgG antibody response in serum detected by ELISA in comparison to the free RV antigen. This study shows that 4-arm-PEG is an effective initiator for the ring-opening polymerization of Lac-OCA by DMAP as an initiator and that the resulting polymer is useful as a delivery system for the rotavirus vaccine.

Abstract

A practical and efficient strategy has been described for the preparation of 4-quinolone derivatives. Using commercially available diethyl acetylenedicarboxylate and aromatic amines as starting materials, the synthetic protocol has been achieved and afforded the product via hydroamination at room temperature followed by PPA-catalyzed intramolecular ring closure. The products can be easily obtained in high yields. Conditions and mechanism of the reaction have also been investigated. This protocol is environmentally friendly and transition-metal-free, with advantages including short reaction time, convenient operation, and mild reaction conditions.
