Objective: This study aimed to investigate the emotion regulation effect of Baduanjin Qigong on college students. Methods: The late positive potential (LPP) components were recorded while performing emotional pictures from 12 college students with Baduanjin Qigong experience and 12 with no experience of any mind–body exercises. Results: Under positive emotional stimuli, greater LPP amplitudes were observed in the experimental group in the frontal, central, and temporal areas than in the control group. Under negative emotional stimuli, greater LPP amplitudes were found in the experimental group in the prefrontal area and smaller amplitudes in the occipital area than in the control group. Conclusion: The results reveal the emotion regulation effect on the event-related potential of Baduanjin Qigong to college students. The findings suggest that the regulatory effect of Baduanjin Qigong on emotional stimulation may be a possible reason for reducing the symptoms of depression and anxiety.

Some depressed patients receive acupuncture as an adjunct to their conventional medications.This review aims to provide evidence on whether acupuncture can enhance the therapeutic effectiveness of antidepressants for treating depression, and explore whether acupuncture can reduce the adverse reactions associated with antidepressants.English and Chinese databases were searched for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published until December 1, 2021.RCTs with a modified Jadad scale score ≥ 4 were included if they compared a group of participants with depression that received acupuncture combined with antidepressants with a control group that received antidepressants alone.Meta-analysis was performed, and statistical heterogeneity was assessed based on Cochran's Q statistic and its related P-value. Primary outcomes were the reduction in the severity of depression and adverse reactions associated with antidepressants, while secondary outcomes included remission rate, treatment response, social functioning, and change in antidepressant dose. The Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) framework was used to evaluate the overall quality of evidence in the included studies.This review included 16 studies (with a total of 1958 participants). Most studies were at high risk of performance bias and at low or unclear risk of selection bias, detection bias, attrition bias, reporting bias, and other bias. Analysis of the 16 RCTs showed that, compared with antidepressants alone, acupuncture along with antidepressants reduced the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale-17 (HAMD-17) scores (standard mean difference [SMD] -0.44, 95% confidence interval [CI] -0.55 to -0.33, P 0.01; IAcupuncture as an adjunct to antidepressants may enhance the therapeutic effectiveness and reduce the adverse drug reactions in patients receiving antidepressants. These findings must be interpreted with caution, as the evidence was of low or moderate quality and there was a lack of comparative data with a placebo control.INPLASY202150008.

Qi, blood and the meridians are fundamental concepts in Chinese medicine (CM), which are components of the human body and maintain physiological function. Pathological changes of qi, blood and meridians may lead to discomfort and disease. Treatment with acupuncture or herbal medicine aims to regulate qi and blood so as to recover normal function of the meridians. This paper explores the nature of qi as well as compares and correlates them with the structures of the human body. We propose a conceptualization of qi as being similar to the interstitial fluid, and the meridians as being similar to interstitial space of low hydraulic resistance in the body. Hence, qi running in the meridians can be understood as interstitial fluid flowing via interstitial space of low hydraulic resistance.

In the work of Peng et al. (Appl Math Comput 218(21):10406–10412, 2012), a new measure was proposed for fault diagnosis of systems: namely g-good-neighbor conditional diagnosability, which requires that any fault-free vertex has at least g fault-free neighbors in the system. In this paper, we establish the g-good-neighbor conditional diagnosability of locally twisted cubes under the PMC model and the MM $$^*$$ model.

Objective To observe decreased hearing in aged C57BL/6J mice, and to study pro- tective effects of Jian' erji ( JEJ ) for age-related hearing loss (AHL) and its possible mechanism. Methods Totally 36 C57BL/6J mice were randomly divided into four groups, i.e., the normal control group (n =6) , the AHL control group (n =12) , the high dose JEJ group (n =12) , the low dose JEJ group (n =6). Mice in the normal control group drank tap water from ablactation till 2 months old. Mice in the AHL control group drank tap water from ablactation till 7 months old. Mice in high and low dose JEJ groups drank JEJ at the daily dose of 3. 65 g/kg and 0. 91 g/kg respectively from ablactation till 7 months old. Six mice were selected from each group for auditory brainstem response (ABR) using brainstem evoked potentiometer on the day of ending the test. The cochlear tissue, auditory cortex, and liver were immediately collected from 6 mice of the high dose JEJ group and 6 of the AHL control group at the same ages. Contents of malondialdehyde (MDA) , end product of lipid peroxidation were detected by UV spectrophotometer using MDA coomassie blue kit. Results ABR thresholds evoked by short-pure tone from 4 to 48 KHz were in the normal range of 2 months old mice in the normal control group. Compared with 2 months old mice in the normal control group, ABR thresholds were significantly elevated in 7 months old mice of the AHL control group (P0. 05). Significant differences also existed in ABR thresholds from 8 to 48 KHz in the high dose JEJ group (P0. 05). Compared with 7 months old mice of the AHL control group, MDA contents in cochlear tissue, auditory cortex, and liver were obviously reduced in the high dose JEJ group (P0. 01). Conclusions C57BL/6J mice showed significant symptoms of AHL in high frequency range at 7 months old. Daily drinking of high dose JEJ could significantly delay the occurrence and progress of AHL. Its protection might be related to antioxidant effects JEJ contained.

To compare differences of extracellular fluid impedance (Re) and intracellular fluid impedance (Ri) between the Stomach(ST) Meridian or Gallbladder(GB) Meridian and their neighboring non-meridian sites of the left lower leg at the same level, so as to explore the distribution characteristics of body fluid in the meridian.Sixteen healthy volunteers were enrolled in the present study. The Re and Ri were detected by using Ag/AgCl electrodes and a digital lock-in amplifier. The measuring electrodes (at an interval of about 3 cm) were separately fixed to the skin sites covering the running courses of the ST Meridian (in the lateral interspace of the anterior tibial muscle)and the GB Meridian (in the interspace of the anterior edge of the fibula), and the excitation electrodes (at an interval of about 9 cm) respectively fixed to the skin sites covering the anterior tibial muscle and the interspace between the anterior tibial muscle and the tibia (about 2 cm and 5 cm lateral to the ST and GB meridians, and about 3－4 cm and 6－8 cm lateral to the ST and GB meridians, respectively). A 100 µA constant current with frequencies from 1 kHz to 100 kHz delivered via an excitation electrode was applied to the site (control spots of the ST Meridian), and signals of the voltage amplitude and phase difference of the tissues fed to the lock-in amplifier via the measuring electrode were collected, followed by measuring those of the GB Meridian and control sites. The circumference of the lower leg around the two excitation and measuring electrodes was measured. Then the cole-cole curve fitting was performed to calculate the Ri and Re, as well as the intracellular fluid resistivity (ρi) and extracellular fluid resistivity (ρe) of the ST and GB meridians, the related muscles and interspace lateral to ST or GB (ST/GB) meridians at the same level.The Ri and Re (Ω) values of the ST, GB, the muscle lateral to ST/GB and the interspace lateral to ST/GB were 19.1±1.3 and 28.3±1.4, 15.8±1.9 and 25.7±2.0, 19.6±1.3 and 31.3±1.6, and 19.4±1.2 and 32.4±1.6, respectively. The Re values were significantly lower at the ST and GB meridians than at the muscle lateral to and the interspace lateral to both meridians (The Ri, Re, ρi and ρe values of the ST and GB meridians are significantly lower than those of their neighboring tissues at the same levels of the lower leg, suggesting a more extracellular fluid in the meridian running course and providing evidence for our speculation that the meridian is a hydraulic resistance channel.

Thymosin, composed of many peptides, is distributed in animal and has immunomodulating effects. However, many factors could affect its bioactivity. Chitosan microspheres containing pig thymosin (CMPT) were prepared through W/O emulsion cross-linking method. In this study, thymosin activity between pig-thymosin and CMPT was investigated through E-rosette test and mouse spleen lymphocyte proliferation (MPLP) experiment in vitro. Results showed that CMPT has the same immunomodulatory activity as pig thymosin. When pig-thymosin was 1.5 μg / ml, E-rosette binding rate was 63%, and E-rosette binding rate of CMPT reached 60%。MPLP rate was 73.3% and 68.5%, respectively. CMPT have the capacity to keep the E-rosette binding and MPLP activity of pig thymosin. This may help to improve traditional formulation and bioavailability of thymosin, and expand its scope of application in clinic.

Background Evaluation of fetal central nervous system (CNS) agenesis by ultrasonography (US) is frequently limited, but magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has its own advantages and is gaining popularity in displaying suspected fetal anomalies. The purpose of this study was to explore the value of MRI in detecting fetal CNS agenesis. Methods Thirty-four women (aged from 22 to 35 years, average 27 years) with complicated pregnancies (16- 39 weeks of gestation, average 30 weeks) were examined with a 1.5 T superconductive MR unit within 24 hours after ultrasonography. Half-Fourier acquisition single-shot turbo spin-echo (HASTE) T2-weighted imaging (T2WI) sequence were performed in all patients, and fast low angle shot (FLASH) T1-weighted imaging (T1WI) sequence were applied sequentially in seven of them. Comparison of the results was made between the MRI and US findings as well as autopsy or postnatal follow-up MRI findings. Results The gyrus, sulcus, corpus callosum, thalamus, cerebellum, brainstem, and spinal cord of fetus were shown more clearly on T2-weighted MR images than on T1weighted MR images. MRI corrected the diagnosis of US in 10 cases (10/34, 29.41%) and the diagnosis was missed only in 1 case (1/34, 2.94%). Conclusion MRI has advantages to US in detecting fetal CNS anomalies and is a supplement to US in complicated pregnancies. Chin Med J 2006; 119(15): 1272-1277

To observe the clinical therapeutic effect of the needling method for regulating wei and strengthening brain on insomnia.Two hundred cases of insomnia were randomly divided into a test group and a control group, 100 cases in each group. The test group were treated with the needling method for regulating wei and strengthening brain with Baihui (GV 20), Dazhui (GV 14), Shenmai (BL 62), Zhaohai (KI 6) and ear points Yuanzhong, Shenmen selected; and in the control group, Sishencong (EX-HN 1), Shenmen (HT 7) and Sanyinjiao (SP 6) were selected. Acupuncture was given once daily for 15 days. Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI) was used for scoring before and after treatment.The total effective rate was 89.0% in the test group and 65.0% in the control group with a very significant difference between the two groups (P0.01); the difference of PSQI scores before and after was -9.15+/-5.68 in the test group and -5.64+/-5.73 in the control group, with a very significant difference before and after treatment in the two groups (P0.01).The therapeutic effect of the needling method for regulating wei and strengthening brain on insomnia is better than that of normal needling method.
