Peroxisomal proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) and microRNAs (miRNAs) play important roles in the development of fetuses, whereas expression changes of PPARs and three miRNAs (miR-17, miR-27b and miR-34a) and whether these miRNAs regulate PPARs in non-GDM macrosomia placenta is unclear.A case-control study was performed to collect information and placental tissues on mothers and newborns of non-GDM macrosomia and normal-birth-weight infants. In vitro HTR8-SVneo cellular model was used to detect the effects of miRNAs on PPARs expression. Quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) and western blot was applied to examine the expression levels of PPARs, miR-17, miR-27b, and miR-34a in placental tissues and cells.The PPARα/γ mRNA and protein levels were significantly up-regulated and miR-27b was down-regulated in the placenta of macrosomia group compared with in the control group, while no difference was observed in PPARβ, miR-17, and miR-34a. After adjusting for confounding factors, low miR-27b and high PPARα/γ mRNA expression still increased the risk of macrosomia. The PPARα/γ protein levels presented a corresponding decrease or increase when cells were transfected with miR-27b mimic or inhibitor.Placental PPARα/γ and miR-27b expression were associated with non-GDM macrosomia and miR-27b probably promotes the occurrence of non-GDM macrosomia by regulating PPARα/γ protein.Low miR-27b and high PPARα/γ mRNA expression in the placenta were associated with higher risk of macrosomia. In vitro HTR8-SVneo cell experiment supported that miR-27b could negatively regulate the expression of PPARα and PPARγ protein. MiR-27b was probably involved in non-GDM macrosomia through negative regulation of PPARα/γ protein.

To assess associations between infants with macrosomia and placental expression levels of lipid activated/transport-related factors and umbilical cord blood lipid concentrations in healthy pregnancy. We conducted a case-control study of 38 macrosomic neonates (MS group) and 39 normal-birth-weight newborns (NC group) in a healthy pregnancy. Cord blood lipid levels were measured by automatic biochemical analyzer, mRNA and protein expression levels of placental lipid activated/transport-related factors were determined by real-time polymerase chain reaction and western blot, respectively. Compared with NC group, cord blood total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDLC), and non-esterified fatty acid (NEFA) concentrations were decreased in the MS group. The mRNA and protein expression levels of placental peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARα, PPARγ), plasma membrane fatty acid-binding protein (FABPpm), and fatty acid translocase (FAT/CD36) were significantly higher in the MS group than the NC group. And there was a weak positive correlation between the expression of PPARγ, FABP4, and FABP3 mRNA in the placenta and the HDLC (rs = 0.439; P = 0.005), NEFA (rs = 0.342; P = 0.041), and TG (rs = 0.349; P = 0.034) levels in the cord blood in the MS group, respectively. After multivariate adjustment, the logistic regression analysis showed that high placental PPARα (adjusted odds ratio [AOR] = 3.022; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.032-8.853) and FAT/CD36 (AOR=2.989; 95%CI 1.029-8.679) and low LDLC concentration in the cord blood (AOR=0.246; 95%CI 0.080-0.759) increased the risk of macrosomia. The increased PPARα and FAT/CD36 expression levels may influence the occurrence of fetal macrosomia through regulating placental lipid transport.

Noncanonical nucleic acid structures, such as G-quadruplex (G4) and i-Motif (iM), have attracted increasing research interests because of their unique structural and binding properties, as well as their important biological activities. To date, thousands of small molecules that bind to varying G4/iM structures have been designed, synthesized and tested for diverse chemical and biological uses. Because of the huge potential and increasing research interests on G4-targeting ligands, we launched the first G4 ligand database G4LDB in 2013. Here, we report a new version, termed G4LDB 2.2 (http://www.g4ldb.com), with upgrades in both content and function. Currently, G4LDB2.2 contains >3200 G4/iM ligands, ∼28 500 activity entries and 79 G4–ligand docking models. In addition to G4 ligand library, we have also added a brand new iM ligand library to G4LDB 2.2, providing a comprehensive view of quadruplex nucleic acids. To further enhance user experience, we have also redesigned the user interface and optimized the database structure and retrieval mechanism. With these improvements, we anticipate that G4LDB 2.2 will serve as a comprehensive resource and useful research toolkit for researchers across wide scientific communities and accelerate discovering and validating better binders and drug candidates.

Buxrugulosides A-E, four lignan glycosides (1-4) and a protocatechuate derivative (5) featuring a rare (N, N-diethyl)methyl amino group at aromatic rings, were obtained from the aerial parts of Buxus rugulosa, which is famous for treating coronary heart disease. Their structures including absolute configurations were elucidated by HRMS, 1D and 2D NMR, and by comparing their CD data with previous reports. Compound 1 was a rare sesquilignan, and all of these compounds were the first example of lignans with (N, N-diethyl)methyl amino group.

To explore how family functioning and family resilience mediate the relationship between disability severity and quality of home-based care among families with disabled older adults.A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 431 families with Uygur and Kazakh disabled older adults in Xinjiang, China, in 2020. The data were collected using the Katz Activity of Daily Living Scale; Mini-Mental State Examination; Family Adaptation, Partnership, Growth, Affection and Resolve Index Scale; Family Resilience Assessment Scale; and Family Caregiving Consequences Inventory Scale. All mediation effects were estimated in SPSS26.0.Disability severity, family functioning and family resilience were all significantly correlated with home-based care quality. Disability severity had a 46.16% direct effect on home-based care quality and a 53.84% indirect effect on home-based care quality independently and in series through family functioning and family resilience.Disability severity directly affected home-based care quality and had an indirect influence via family functioning and family resilience. Multidisciplinary care teams should focus on families with disabled older adults and help them improve family functioning and family resilience by implementing targeted interventions, so as to improve home-based care quality.

Background Elders' disability severity and caregiver health could predict elders' informal care time, but the mechanism by which the degree of disability in the elderly affects informal care time is unclear. Aim The aim of this works is to explore the mediating roles of caregiver health and home-based care quality between disability severity of elders and informal care time in far north-western low-income areas in China. Method From September 2017 to February 2018, three hundred fifty-two dyads of Kazakh disabled elders and informal caregivers in Xinjiang were interviewed. Structural equation modelling analyses were applied. Results Significant positive correlations were observed between elders' disability severity and informal care time, caregiver health and informal care time, elders' disability severity and caregiver health. Significant negative correlations were observed between home-based care quality and informal care time, elders' disability severity and home-based care quality, caregiver health and home-based care quality. Elders' disability severity had 71.94% direct effect on informal care time, 28.06% indirect effect on informal care time mediated by home-based care quality and caregiver health. Conclusion Caregiver health and home-based care quality play mediating roles on the path relationship between the elders' disability severity and informal care time.

Fetal growth and development depend on metabolic energy from placental mitochondria. However, the impact of placental mitochondria on the occurrence of macrosomia remains unclear. We aimed to explore the association between macrosomia without gestational diabetes mellitus (non-GDM) and changes in placental mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) copy number and methylation.Fifty-four newborns with macrosomia and 54 normal birthweight controls were enrolled in this study. Placental mtDNA copy number and mRNA expression of nuclear genes related to mitochondrial replication or ATP synthesis-related genes were measured by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR). Methylation levels of the non-coding regulatory region D-loop and ATP synthesis-related genes were detected by targeted bisulfite sequencing.Newborns with macrosomia had lower placental mtDNA copy number and higher methylation rates of the CpG15 site in the D-loop region (D-CpG15) and CpG6 site in the cytochrome C oxidase III (COX3) gene (COX3-CpG6) than normal birth weight newborns. After adjusting for potential covariates (gestational age, prepregnancy BMI, and infant sex), decreased placental mtDNA copy number (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] = 2.09, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.03-4.25), elevated methylation rate of D-CpG15 (aOR = 2.06, 95% CI 1.03-4.09) and COX3-CpG6 (aOR = 2.13, 95% CI 1.08-4.20) remained significantly associated with a higher risk of macrosomia.Reduced mtDNA copy number and increased methylation levels of specific loci at mtDNA would increase the risk of macrosomia. However, the detailed molecular mechanism needs further identification.

Background: Macrosomia is a serious public health problem worldwide, the underlying etiology and mechanism of macrosomia born to healthy mothers are still unclear. Abnormal lipid transport during pregnancy exerts potential and adverse impacts on fetus, our study aimed to assess associations between macrosomia and placental expression levels of lipid transport-related genes and umbilical cord blood lipid concentrations in healthy pregnancy.Methods: We conducted a case-control study of 38 macrosomia and 39 normal-birth-weight newborns in healthy pregnancy. Cord blood lipid levels were measured by automatic biochemical analyzer, mRNA and protein expression levels of placental lipid transport-related factors were determined by real-time polymerase chain reaction and western blot, respectively. Results: The single factor analysis showed that placental mRNA and protein expression levels of PPARα, PPARγ, FABPpm, LXRα, FABP3, FABP4 and FAT/CD36 were significantly higher and cord blood total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and non-esterified fatty acid (NEFA) concentrations were significantly lower in macrosomia group. Further analysis found that placental PPARγ, FABP4 and FABP3 mRNA expression levels were positively correlated with high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, NEFA and triglycerides concentrations in macrosomia cord blood, respectively. After multivariate adjustment, the logistic regression analysis showed that high placental PPARα (AOR=3.022; 95%CI:1.032-8.853) and FAT/CD36 (AOR=2.989; 95%CI:1.029-8.679) expression increased the risk of delivering macrosomia. Conclusions: The increase of PPARα and FAT/CD36 mRNA expression levels is associated with the occurrence of macrosomia, suggesting that they may be important regulators during placental lipid transport in macrosomia.

For further understanding of the molecular absorption mechanisms of photothermal conversion by coordination compounds, two newly prepared xanthene-functionalized silver(I) complexes, [Ag2(X9A)2(dppm)2] (1) (where dppm = bis(diphenylphosphino)methane and X9A = 9H-xanthene-9-carboxylato(-1)) and [Ag4(X9A)4(dppm)2]·6CH3OH (2), have been isolated and structurally characterized. We report here the syntheses, crystal structures, characterizations by various spectroscopic (IR, UV–Vis, powder XRD) techniques, as well as photothermal conversion performance of 1 and 2. Their X-ray crystal structures reveal that 1 is a binuclear silver(I) coordination compound bridged by two dppm molecules with two monodentate 9H-xanthene-9-carboxylato(-1) ligands, and 2 can be described as the dimer of 1 bridged by two 9H-xanthene-9-carboxylato(-1) anions in the μ3-η1,η2 coordination mode. Their photothermal conversion experimental results give new insight into understanding the molecular mechanisms for improving the performance of photothermal conversion molecular materials.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the value of capsule endoscopy in children with small intestinal diseases with hematochezia as the chief complaint. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was performed on the clinical data and capsule endoscopy findings of 93 children with hematochezia who were admitted to Children's Hospital of Fudan University from May 2015 to January 2019 and underwent capsule endoscopy. According to the capsule endoscopy findings of the jejunum and the ileum, they were divided into a positive lesion group with 39 patients and a negative lesion group with 54 patients. Related clinical data and the features of lesion on capsule endoscopy were analyzed for the two groups. RESULTS: There were no significant differences in age, sex, duration of capsule endoscopy, gastric transit time, and small intestinal transit time between the positive lesion and negative lesion groups (P > 0.05). The positive lesion group had a significantly lower level of hemoglobin than the negative lesion group (P < 0.05). Hemoglobin level was negatively correlated with the rate of positive lesions on capsule endoscopy (r=-0.342, P=0.001). Among the 39 patients with positive lesions on capsule endoscopy, the detection of Meckel's diverticulum was the highest (41%), followed by inflammatory bowel disease (21%). CONCLUSIONS: Capsule endoscopy has a certain value in detecting small intestinal diseases, especially diseases in the jejunum and the ileum, in children with lower gastrointestinal hemorrhage.

For further elucidating the molecular absorption mechanisms in the photothermal conversion performance, three xanthene-functionalized dicopper coordination compounds have been isolated and structurally characterized by IR, Powder XRD, Solid-state UV, and TGA. They were prepared by solvothermal treatment the mixture of 9H-xanthene-9-carboxylic acid with Cu(CH3CN)4BF4 with/without the assistance of the auxiliary ligands {2,2′-bipyridine (bpy) or bis(diphenylphosphino)methane (dppm)}, namely, [Cu2(X9A)4(CH3CN)2] (1, X9A = xanthene-9-carboxylate), {[Cu2(X9A)(dppm)2(CH3CN)](BF4)∙(CH3CN)} (2), and {[Cu2(X9A)3(bpy)2](BF4)∙0.5(H2O)}2 (3). Single-crystal X-ray structural analysis and mass spectra revealed that the copper atoms in 2 were Cu(I), while in 1 and 3 were Cu(II) coordination compounds. The X9A ligands arranged in two types of coordination modes in 3: one in a bidentate bridging mode (μ2-η1, η1 mode) and two in an arrangement involving chelation and bridging mode (μ2-η1, η2 mode), while only simple bridging mode presented in 1 and 2. With the further stabilization of bpy ligands, compound 3 displayed excellent thermal stability, superior absorption ability as well as the best photothermal conversion performance (the highest temperature increment ~ 19 ℃ and equilibrium temperature ~ 32 ℃).

Background/objective The term macrosomia is used to describe neonates with a birth weight of 4000 g or more. Macrosomia is a potential risk factor for obesity and metabolic syndromes in postnatal and adult life, yet little is known about its associations with metabolic difference in the early age. We performed metabolic profiling of umbilical cord blood to discover differential metabolites of macrosomia. Methods We conducted a case-control study of full-term singletons with normal maternal glucose tolerance [50 cases (macrosomia, birth weight ⩾4000 g); 50 controls (normal weight, birth weight 2500-3999 g)]. Metabolites in umbilical cord blood were detected using an untargeted metabolomic approach based on gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. We performed logistic regression to evaluate the associations between metabolites and macrosomia. We also performed pathway analysis based on KEGG and MBRole. Results Compared with controls, the macrosomia cases had a greater male proportion, gestational age, paternal body mass index (BMI) and maternal pre-pregnancy BMI. Forty-two metabolites differed between the cases and controls. After multivariable adjustment, 2-methylfumarate [adjusted odds ratio (AOR)=1.232, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.102-1.376], uracil (AOR=38.494, 95% CI: 5.635-262.951), elaidic acid (AOR=0.834, 95% CI: 0.761-0.915), ribose (AOR=0.089, 95% CI: 0.021-0.378), lactulose (AOR=0.815, 95% CI: 0.743-0.894) and 4-aminobutyric acid (AOR=0.835, 95% CI: 0.764-0.912) remained significantly associated with macrosomia. Pyrimidine metabolism and pentose and glucuronate interconversions were the two top-ranking pathways enriched with those metabolites (-log P-value=3.49 and 2.47, respectively). Conclusion Levels of 2-methylfumarate, uracil, ribose, elaidic acid, lactulose and 4-aminobutyric acid were associated with the incidence of macrosomia. The alteration of pathways involving those factors might be linked with the incidence of macrosomia and relevant metabolic syndromes later in life, and further studies are needed to confirm it and verify the mechanisms.

To measure levels of placental brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) gene expression and umbilical cord blood BDNF in neonates with nondiabetic macrosomia and determine associations between these levels and macrosomia. This case–control study included 58 nondiabetic macrosomic and 59 normal birth weight mother-infant pairs. Data were collected from interviews and our hospital’s database. BDNF gene expression was quantified in placental tissues using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (n = 117). Umbilical cord blood BDNF levels were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (n = 90). Multivariate logistic regression models were used to evaluate associations between BDNF levels and macrosomia. Placental BDNF gene expression (P = 0.026) and cord blood BDNF (P = 0.008) were lower in neonates with nondiabetic macrosomia than in normal birth weight controls. Cord blood BDNF was significantly lower in vaginally delivered macrosomic neonates than vaginally delivered controls (P = 0.014), but cord BDNF did not differ between vaginal and cesarean section delivery modes in macrosomic neonates. As a result, many internet communities have formed within the platforms. These internet communities are generally characterized by youthfulness, large quantity, low thresholds, and discretely organized. Their formation and aggregation also lie in their satisfaction with the needs of users' cognition, emotion, personal integration, social integration and pressure relief. This paper will combine the theory of uses and gratifications, social identity and media law, and internet and offline research methods to analyze the characteristics and causes of the internet community of short video platforms.

The chiller system in a building accounts for the main part of the building's total energy consumption, so it is critical to optimize the operation of chiller system for the purpose of saving energy. A chiller system generally consists of evaporation side and condensing side. The condensing side includes chillers, cooling water pumps and cooling towers, which form a subsystem of cooling water. It is a typical optimization problem to minimize the total energy consumption of cooling water subsystem. This paper discusses how to solve the optimization problem of the cooling water subsystem and proposes a simple optimal control rule for field operation based on the optimization results.

A series of photocatalyst Bi1-xLaxVO4 (0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7) powders were prepared by hydrothermal method. The composition, structure, morphology and photocatalytic activity of the samples were researched by means of modern testing techniques. Bi1-xLaxVO4 showed excellent visible-light sensitivity and photocatalytic activities. The degradation rate of sample with x = 0.5 on rhodamine B reached 90 %, which was much higher than that of pure BiVO4.

This study aimed to investigate the effects of maternal exposure to di-n-butyl phthalate (DBP) during pregnancy and breastfeeding on F1 ovarian development and function. A rat model of maternal exposure to DBP during pregnancy and breastfeeding was established by gavage feeding female Sprague Dawley rats with 0, 10, 100, or 600mg/kg/day DBP from gestational day (GD) 12 to postnatal day (PND) 21. F1 offspring were weaned on PND21 and were not exposed to DBP afterward. The age of vaginal opening and estrus onset, estrous cyclicity, c-Kit-ligand expression on ovarian granulosa cells, and the weight of ovaries and uterus of F1 female offspring were not affected, whereas serum levels of estradiol and progesterone were increased significantly by maternal exposure to 10mg/kg/day DBP from GD12 to PND21. Although F1 ovarian function may not be adversely affected by maternal exposure to DBP, the increased reproductive hormone levels may interfere in F1 rat fertility.

Macrosomia, a birth weight ≥ 4,000 g, is associated with maternal and infant health problems. The dysregulation of microRNAs (miRNAs) in the placenta is associated with adverse birth outcomes, yet whether aberrantly expressed placental miRNAs are associated with macrosomia remains unknown. Background The lack of adequate medical care, healthcare, and older adult care in remote, low-income, rural Kazakh areas of China is a particular concern that should be prioritized for improvement. Purpose This study was designed to explore the relationship between the variables of disability severity, social support, and caregiver competence and the quality of home-based care in a population of Kazakh older adults with disabilities and to analyze the path between severity of disability and quality of home-based care in this population. Methods A cross-sectional survey was conducted on 335 Kazakh older adults with disabilities living in Xinjiang, China, and their primary informal caregivers. Disability severity was assessed using the Activities of Daily Living Scale, caregiver competence was assessed using the Family Caregiver Task Inventory, social support was assessed using the Social Support Rating Scale, and home-based care quality was assessed using the Family Caregiving Consequences Inventory Scale. Path analysis was used to check the effects of other variables on the quality of home-based care. Results Significant correlations were found among disability severity, caregiver competence, social support, and home-based care quality. Disability severity was shown to have a 29.28% direct effect on home-based care quality and a 70.72% indirect effect through social support and caregiver competence. Conclusions The results of this study confirm that better social support and caregiver competence improves the quality of home-based care available to older adults with disabilities. Policymakers should give priority to improving the quality of care provided to community-dwelling older adults with severe disabilities. Furthermore, health management departments should provide informal caregiver training that teaches care and rehabilitation knowledge and skills to improve the competencies of caregivers.

To investigate the efficiency of inducing CIK from peripheral blood mononuclear cells(PBMNC) by using immune cell serum replacement(immune cell SR), so as to provide a new strategy for the industrialized production of immune cells.The PBMNC of healthy volunteers were collected, and these cells were thawed after short-term cryopreservation and cultured to induce CIK cells. The cells viability was measured by trypan blue exclusion, the phenotypes were analyzed by flow cytometry, and the cytotoxicity was determined by Calcein-AM/PI double staining.In cryopreserved PBMNC, the control group cells failed to normally proliferate. Cell proliferation ratio was low in 2% SR group in comparison with the fresh group, and the difference was significant (P0.05), however, differences were not statistically significant between 5% SR and fresh group or between 10% AP and fresh group. CD35% SR without the protein of animal origin can be safely used as a substitute for autologous plasma in CIK induced from cryopreserved PBMNC by culture, thus providing a basis for the application of cryopreservation technique of immune cells to cell therapy.

Objective: To investigate the short-term efficacy of laparoscopic assisted Total Extraperitoneal Repair (TEP) with small incision for large inguinal hernia in adults, so as to guide the treatment of patients. Methods: A total of 32 adults with large inguinal hernia treated with laparoscopic assisted TEP from September 2015 to March 2017 were enrolled as the observation group, and from January 2013 to June 2015, 34 cases with large inguinal hernia treated with TEP were enrolled as the control group. The efficacy of operation and recovery, White Blood Count (WBC), C Reactive Protein (CRP) and Visual Analogue Score (VAS), the recurrence rate within 6 months and quality of life between two groups were compared. Results: Compared with the control group, the operation time in observation group was longer, intraoperative bleeding volume was less, postoperative ambulation time and hospital stays were shorter, the WBC, CRP and VAS at 3 d after operation were less, the differences were statistically significant (P 0.05). Within 6 months after surgery, quality of life in two groups improved significantly (P 0.05). Conclusion: Laparoscopic assisted TEP with small incision is effective in treatment of large inguinal hernia in adult patients. Compared with the traditional TEP, intraoperative bleeding volume in laparoscopic assisted TEP with small incision is less, postoperative recovery is faster, pain and physiological stress are less.

Conflicts between left-turning vehicles and pedestrians are common at signalized intersection in most developing countries. A new cellular automaton model is proposed to characterize left-turning traffic flow. New status update rules and driving behavior in affected areas and nonaffected areas are defined. Indexes of density, average speed and volume under different pedestrian violation rates are compared to quantify the impact of conflicts on left-turning traffic flow. Simulation results illustrate that pedestrian violations have a great impact on left-turning traffic flow and capacity of the intersection. Therefore, taking countermeasures will improve vehicle maneuvers, reduce the number of pedestrian accidents and increase the capacity of the intersection.

White light LEDs are playing a more and more important role in display in various structures. Here, a new modeling algorithm is proposed for use in phosphor-converted white light-emitting diodes (pcW-LEDs); the algorithm can be used to accurately simulate color appearances, potentially enabling optical designers to remove yellowish/bluish spots in LED lighting. The proposed modeling method was applied to simulate a pcW-LED without an encapsulation lens, and subsequently, a pcW-LED with a hemispherical lens. Both simulations accurately predicted the blue and yellow light distribution. The model was further verified by applying a total internal reflector lens to the pcW-LED. In the midfield region, the blue and yellow light distribution exhibited large variations as the observation distance changed; this varying light pattern for both the blue and yellow lights can be accurately predicted using the proposed model. The developed optical model should facilitate designing a pcW-LED that features high-quality illumination and increased color uniformity.

BACKGROUND Nesfatin-1, recently identified as a satiety regulator, elicits an anti-atherosclerosis effect. Our study was designed to determine whether there is an association between serum nesfatin-1 and the development and severity of peripheral arterial disease (PAD) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to identify factors predicting histologic chorioamnionitis (HCA) in women with preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM). MATERIAL AND METHODS We retrospectively enrolled 371 women diagnosed with PPROM at less than 34 weeks of gestation at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University between January 2008 and December 2012. HCA was diagnosed by placental histopathology in 70% of participants. Binary logistic regression was used to identify factors associated with HCA and neonatal outcomes. RESULTS Patient age, rate of parity, tocolysis, cesarean section, serum C reactive protein (CRP) level at admission, white blood cell count, and latency duration did not significantly differ between the 2 groups. Binary logistic regression revealed that oligohydramnios at admission, gestational age at PPROM, and serum CRP >8 mg/L before delivery were significantly associated with HCA. Maximum likelihood (ML) detection algorithm for multiple input multiple output (MIMO) systems provided the best bit error rate (BER) performance with heavy calculating complexity. The use of QR decomposition with M-algorithm (QRD-M) had been proposed to provide near-ML detection performance and lower calculating complexity. However, its complexity still grew exponentially with increasing dimension of the transmitted signal. To reduce the problem, an improved detection scheme was proposed here. After constructing the tree detecting model of MIMO systems, the ML search of one layer was done, the branch metrics were calculated and sorted, which gave an ordered set of the layer, then depth-first search were used to search the left layers with termination methods. The proposed algorithm provides near QRD-M detection performance.

1 Hypothesis Disabled elders' activities of daily living, caregiver burden, caregiver depression, and caregivers' life satisfaction are significantly related to the life satisfaction of elderly people with disability. 2 Hypothesis There are direct and indirect effects between the life satisfaction of elders, disabled elders' activities of daily living, and family caregivers' factors. This study explored the interrelationships of disabled elders' life satisfaction and activities of daily living, caregivers' factors (burden, depression, and life satisfaction) through a structural equation model. In total, 621 dyads of disabled elders and informal family caregivers completed questionnaires during face-to-face interviews in Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region from September 2013 to January 2014. Activity of daily living exerted a direct effect on life satisfaction of disabled elders and 30.4% indirect effect through caregivers' factors. Caregiver burden had a 60.0% direct effect on life satisfaction of disabled elders and a 40.0% indirect effect through the caregiver depression. Caregiver depression showed 76% direct effect on life satisfaction of disabled elders and 24% indirect effect through caregivers' life satisfaction. Direct relationships between activity of daily living and caregiver burden, caregiver burden and caregiver depression, and caregiver depression and caregivers' life satisfaction were observed. Activity of daily living had a 91.3% indirect effect on caregiver depression mediated by caregiver burden; caregiver burden had a 40.0% indirect effect on caregivers' life satisfaction mediated by caregiver depression. Results provide useful information for nurses and policymakers and shed light on the need to consider caregivers' factors in improving care recipients' life satisfaction.

In this paper, the mobile strong ground motion observation for the destructive earthquake is introduced. Considering the characteristics and its spatial distributions of aftershock, 59 strong ground motion instruments were installed along the Longmenshan fault area, and more than 2 000 records have been accumulated. It shows that it is necessary to perform the mobile strong ground motion observation after the destructive earthquake, and the precious collected data could be applied for further research.

White light LEDs become more and more important in display and lighting in various structures. Here a new modeling algorithm for phosphor-converted white light-emitting diodes (pcW-LEDs) is proposed, aiming to perform accurate simulation for color appearance, where potentially enabling optical designers to remove yellowish/bluish spots in LED lighting. The proposed modeling method is applied to simulate a pcW-LED with a hemi spherical lens. The simulation accurately predicts the blue and yellow light distribution. Objective: To explore the relationship between birth weight and fat mass- and obesity-associated (FTO) gene expression and promoter methylation status in the Chinese population.Methods: Seventy-five neonates and their mothers were recruited from Yuying Children’s Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University. Subjects were divided into three groups by birth weight: low (n = 20), medium (3500–3999 g, n = 30) and high (≥4000 g, n = 25). Placental FTO transcript levels and promoter methylation were determined by quantitative PCR and Sequenom MassARRAY®.Results: Placental FTO mRNA expression was significantly increased in the high- and medium-weight groups compared to the low-weight group (p = 0.023). Methylation rates of CpG11 sites were significantly decreased in high-birth weight newborns (p = 0.018). Multiple linear regressions showed placental FTO mRNA, maternal pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI) and CpG11 methylation rate were independently associated with increased fetal birth weight. Additionally, FTO mRNA expression was negatively associated with CpG6.7.8.9 methylation in mothers that underwent C-section.Conclusions: High placental FTO expression is associated with increased birth weight in Chinese neonates, and FTO promoter methylation level at a specific CpG site is negatively associated with birth weight. Further work is needed to determine the functionality of this CpG site in placentas.

If a traditional explicit numerical integration algorithm is used to solve motion equation in the finite element simulation of wave motion, the time-step used by numerical integration is the smallest time-step restricted by the stability criterion in computational region. However, the excessively small time-step is usually unnecessary for a large portion of computational region. In this paper, a varying time-step explicit numerical integration algorithm is introduced, and its basic idea is to use different time-step restricted by the stability criterion in different computational region. Finally, the feasibility of the algorithm and its effect on calculating precision are verified by numerical test.

To investigate Lactobacillus acidophilus (L. acidophilus) and Bifidobacterium bifidum (B. bifidum) supplementation to triple therapy for Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) eradication and dynamic changes in intestinal flora in children with H. pylori infection. One hundred H. pylori-infected children were randomly assigned to two groups: treatment group (n = 43), standard triple anti-H. pylori therapy plus probiotics of L. acidophilus and B. bifidum for 2 weeks followed by taking probiotics for another 4 weeks; control group (n = 45), standard triple anti-H. pylori therapy for 6 weeks. After 6-week treatment, 13C-urease breath test was performed and side effects were monitored during the observation period. Quantitative PCR with 16S rRNA-gene-targeted species-specific primers was carried out for the analysis of human intestinal B. bifidum, L. acidophilus, and Escherichia coli (E. coli). As expected, treatment group could significantly enhance the H. pylori eradication rate (83.7 vs. 64.4 %, P < 0.05). B. bifidum, L. acidophilus, and E. coli showed no statistical difference before or after therapy in the treatment group. The number of B. bifidum and L. acidophilus was significantly decreased after 2-week treatment in the control group, but after 6-week treatment it significantly increased and nearly returned to the level before treatment. The number of E. coli increased significantly after 2-week treatment, while after 6-week treatment, it nearly decreased to the level before treatment. L. acidophilus and B. bifidum supplementation is effective for H. pylori eradication compared with triple therapy alone.

In this paper, a precise simulation and detailed design of angular correlated color temperature (CCT) distribution of white LEDs covering a range of CCT from 2800K to 6500K is presented. In our best knowledge, it is the first time which the kind of research is presented.

This study examined the biological characteristics of normal and degenerated rabbit nucleus pulposus (NP) cells in vitro in order to provide seed cells for intervertebral disc (IVD) tissue engineering. A total of 8 adult New Zealand white rabbits underwent annulus puncture to establish models of intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD). Four weeks later, normal and degenerated NP cells were obtained. Cell morphology was observed by light and electron microscopy. Cell viability was measured by MTT assay. Cell cycle and expression of extracellular matrix (ECM)-related genes (aggrecan and type II collagen) were determined by using flow cytometry and RT-PCR respectively. The growth curve of normal NP cells showed that the cells at passage 4 tended to slowly grow on the fifth day of culture. To investigate factors and neonatal outcomes associated with histologic chorioamnionitis (HCA) in preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM).From Jan. 2008 to Jun. 2011, 230 women with PPROM at 28 - 33(+6) weeks of gestation undergoing deliveries in the Second Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical College were studied retrospectively. According to placental histopathologic findings, those patients were categorized into two groups, including 138 cases in histologic chorioamnionitis (HCA group) and 65 cases in non-chorioamnionitis (control) group. Age, parity, gestational age of PPROM and delivery, latency period, oligohydramnios, white blood cell (WBC) count and serum C-reactive protein (CRP) level at admission and before delivery, the incidence of neonatal respiratory distress syndrome (NRDS), neonatal pneumonia, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, necrotizing enterocolitis, early-onset neonatal sepsis, abnormal brain sonography findings and mortality were compared between two groups.(1) The incidence of HCA was 68.0% (138/203) in all 203 cases with PPROM. (2) The occurring ruptured membrane gestation in HCA group was (31.1 ± 1.5) weeks, which were significantly earlier than (32.0 ± 1.3) weeks in control group (P0.05). The level of CRP of (8.2 ± 14.9) mg/L before delivery in HCA group was significantly higher than (5.5 ± 7.2) mg/L in control group (P0.05). The rate of oligohydramnios and cesearean sections were 55.1% (76/138) and 45.7% (63/138) in HCA group, which were significantly higher than 30.8% (20/65) and 29.2% (19/65) in control group (P0.05). There were no significant difference in patient's age, parity, WBC count and CRP at admission between two groups (P0.05). The latency period did not show significant difference between (140 ± 116) hours in HCA group and (129 ± 125) hours in control group (P0.05). (3) Using multivariable logistic regression models, oligohydramnios (OR = 2.937), gestational age of PPROM32 weeks (OR = 2.352), serum CRP level8 mg/L before delivery (OR = 4.923) and latency period48 - 168 hours (OR = 4.439) were significantly associated with HCA (P0.05). (4) The gestational age of delivery and birth weight of HCA group were significantly lower than those of control group [(32.0 ± 1.5) weeks vs. (32.7 ± 1.5) weeks, (1680 ± 379) g vs. (2017 ± 333) g, respectively, P0.05]. The incidence of Apgar7, abnormal brain sonograhy findings, neonatal pneumonia, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, early-onset neonatal sepsis and mortality in HCA group were significantly higher than those in control group [20.3% (28/138) vs. 7.7% (5/65), 14.5% (20/138) vs. 4.6% (3/65), 12.3% (17/138) vs. 3.1% (2/65), 5.8% (8/138) vs. 0, 6.5% (9/138) vs. 0, 12.3% (17/138) vs. 3.1% (2/65), respectively, P0.05]. The incidence of necrotizing enterocolitis (1.5%, 2/138) in HCA group was higher than that of control group (0) and the incidence of NRDS (18.8%, 26/138) in HCA group did not show statistical difference with 21.4% (14/65) in control group (P0.05).It was found that HCA was significantly correlated with lower gestational age of PPROM, higher serum CRP level before delivery, prolonged latency period and oligohydramnios in PPROM. HCA could increase the neonatal morbidity and mortality.

In this paper, to our best knowledge, it is the first time to present a precise simulation and detailed design of angular correlated color temperature (CCT) distribution of white LEDs covering a range of CCT from 2800K to 6500K. An optimized design of packaging structure with a silicone lens covering a phosphor dome performed an extreme small angular CCT deviation of 105K in the simulation and 182K in a corresponding real sample for a white LED with the CCT near 6500K.

Premature rupture of membranes (PROM) is a common obstetric complication frequently occurring with concomitant chorioamnionitis. The present study aimed to evaluate levels of soluble triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells-1 (sTREM-1) in serum and amniotic fluid in pregnant women with PROM and to compare sTREM-1 with the commonly used laboratory indicators, serum C-reactive protein (CRP) and white blood cell (WBC) count. A total of 55 pregnant women with PROM were enrolled. Their venous blood and amniotic fluid were collected at delivery. sTREM-1 concentrations in the serum and amniotic fluid were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The measured data were compared with the pathological results of the placenta and fetal membrane. Meanwhile, sTREM-1 was compared with the laboratory indicators, serum CRP and WBC count. Serum and amniotic fluid sTREM-1 levels were significantly higher in pregnant women with subclinical chorioamnionitis compared to pregnant women without chorioamnionitis. Serum concentration of sTREM-1 yielded a sensitivity of 81.8% and a specificity of 77.3% for the prediction of subclinical chorioamnionitis. The amniotic fluid concentration of sTREM-1 resulted in a sensitivity of 81.8% and a specificity of 86.4% for the prediction of subclinical chorioamnionitis. In conclusion, serum and amniotic fluid sTREM-1 levels may emerge as early biological indicators for predicting PROM complicated with subclinical chorioamnionitis. sTREM-1 levels are superior to WBC count in predicting subclinical chorioamnionitis.

Background Aquaporins are a family of membrane-bound water channel proteins that regulate the flow of water across a variety of biological membranes. The expression of aquaporin 8 and aquaporin 9 has been demonstrated in human chorioamniotic membrane and placenta. But their roles in the pathophysiology of polyhydramnios are unclear. Aims To study the expression of aquaporin 8 and aquaporin 9 in fetal membranes and placenta in term pregnancies complicated by idiopathic polyhydramnios and to explore the association between aquaporin expressions and polyhydramnios. Subjects The placentas were collected from 51 patients who underwent elective Cesarean sections at term, of which 21 cases had idiopathic polyhydramnios and the other 30 had normal amniotic fluid volume. Outcome measures Real-time polymerase chain reaction and immunohistochemistry techniques were used to determine the expression and localization of aquaporin 8 and aquaporin 9 in the amnion, chorion and placenta. Results Expression of aquaporin 8 and aquaporin 9 was detected in the amnion, chorion and placenta and located in amnion epithelia, chorion cytotrophoblasts and placental trophoblast. Compared to normal amniotic fluid volume group, the expression of aquaporin 8 in amnion, and aquaporin 9 in amnion and chorion, were significantly increased in idiopathic polyhydramnios group; however, their expression in the placenta was significantly decreased. Conclusions When polyhydramnios occurs, expression of aquaporin 8 and aquaporin 9 in fetal membranes and placenta is an adaptive change, which may be involved in the regulation of amniotic fluid volume. However, the modulation factors of the aquaporin 8 and aquaporin 9 expressions need further study.

Objective: To explore the pathophysiology of oligohydramnios, the association between the expression of aquaporin 1 and aquaporin 3 in fetal membranes and placenta and oligohydramnios was investigated. Methods: Sixty patients underwent elective cesarean sections at term were studied, 30 patients with isolated oligohydramnios and the other 30 with normal amniotic fluid volume (AFV). Real-time polymerase chain reaction and immunohistochemistry were employed to determine expression and localization of aquaporin 1 and aquaporin 3 in amnion, chorion and placenta, respectively. Results: The expression of aquaporin 1 and aquaporin 3 was detected in amnion, chorion and placenta using real-time RT-PCR. By immunohistochemistry, aquaporin 1 and aquaporin 3 protein expressions in amnion epithelia and chorion cytotrophoblasts were identified. In placenta, aquaporin 1 was detected in placental vessels, while aquaporin 3 was found in trophoblast cells. In comparison to normal AFV group, there was a significant decrease of aquaporin 1 expression in amnion in oligohydramnios group, but no significant difference in chorion and placenta between the two groups. The expression of the aquaporin 3 in amnion and chorion in oligohydramnios group was significantly decreased, while expression in placenta was significantly increased compared with that in normal AFV group. Conclusions: Alteration of aquaporin 1 and aquaporin 3 expression in fetal membranes and placenta may be important in the pathophysiology of isolated oligohydramnios.
