Abstract

Abstract The process $$e^+e^-\rightarrow n{\bar{n}}$$ e + e - → n n ¯ is studied in the experiment at the VEPP-2000 $$e^+e^-$$ e + e - collider with the SND detector. The technique of the time measurements in the multichannel NaI(Tl) electromagnetic calorimeter is used to select $$n{\bar{n}}$$ n n ¯ events. The value of the measured cross section in the center-of-mass energy range from 1.894 to 2 GeV varies from 0.5 to 0.35 nb. The effective neutron timelike form factor is derived from the measured cross section and compared with the proton form factor. The ratio of the neutron electric and magnetic form factors is obtained from the analysis of the antineutron polar angle distribution and found to be consistent with unity.

Abstract

Abstract The process $$e^+e^-\rightarrow \eta \eta \gamma $$ e + e - → η η γ is studied in the center-of-mass energy range 1.17–2.00 GeV using data with an integrated luminosity of 201 pb $$^{-1}$$ - 1 collected by the SND detector at the VEPP-2000 $$e^+e^-$$ e + e - collider. The $$e^+e^-\rightarrow \eta \eta \gamma $$ e + e - → η η γ cross section is measured for the first time. It is shown that the dominant mechanism of this reaction is the transition through the $$\phi \eta $$ ϕ η intermediate state. Our result on the $$e^+e^-\rightarrow \eta \eta \gamma $$ e + e - → η η γ cross section is consistent with the $$e^+e^-\rightarrow \phi \eta $$ e + e - → ϕ η measurement in the $$\phi \rightarrow K^+ K^-$$ ϕ → K + K - mode. The search for radiative processes contributing to the $$e^+e^-\rightarrow \eta \eta \gamma $$ e + e - → η η γ cross section is performed, and no significant signal is observed.

Abstract

Abstract The cross section of the process e + e − → π + π − has been measured in the Spherical Neutral Detector (SND) experiment at the VEPP-2000 e + e − collider VEPP-2000 in the energy region 525 < s $$ \sqrt{s} $$ < 883 MeV. The measurement is based on data with an integrated luminosity of about 4.6 pb −1. The systematic uncertainty of the cross section determination is 0.8% at s $$ \sqrt{s} $$ > 0.600 GeV. The ρ meson parameters are obtained as m ρ = 775.3 ± 0.5 ± 0.6 MeV, Γ ρ = 145.6 ± 0.6 ± 0.8 MeV, B ρ→e+e− × B ρ→π+π− = (4.89 ± 0.02 ± 0.04) × 10 −5, and the parameters of the e + e − → ω → π + π − process, suppressed by G-parity, as B ω→e+e− × B ω→π+π− = (1.32 ± 0.06 ± 0.02) × 10 −6 and and ϕ ρω = 110.7 ± 1.5 ± 1.0 degrees.

Abstract

Abstract The process $$e^+e^-\rightarrow K^+K^-\pi ^0$$ e + e - → K + K - π 0 is studied with the SND detector at the VEPP-2000 $$e^+e^-$$ e + e - collider. Basing on data with an integrated luminosity of 26.4 $$\hbox {pb}^{-1}$$ pb - 1 we measure the $$e^+e^-\rightarrow K^+K^-\pi ^0$$ e + e - → K + K - π 0 cross section in the center-of-mass energy range from 1.28 up to 2 GeV. The measured mass spectrum of the $$K\pi $$ K π system indicates that the dominant mechanism of this reaction is the transition through the $$K^{*}(892)K$$ K ∗ ( 892 ) K intermediate state. The cross section for the $$\phi \pi ^0$$ ϕ π 0 intermediate state is measured separately. The SND results are consistent with previous measurements in the BABAR experiment and have comparable accuracy. We study the effect of the interference between the $$\phi \pi ^0$$ ϕ π 0 and $$K^*K$$ K ∗ K amplitudes. It is found that the interference gives sizable contribution to the measured $$e^+e^- \rightarrow \phi \pi ^0\rightarrow K^+K^-\pi ^0$$ e + e - → ϕ π 0 → K + K - π 0 cross section below 1.7 GeV.

Abstract The process $$e^+e^-\rightarrow \eta \pi ^0\gamma $$ e + e - → η π 0 γ is studied in the center-of-mass energy range 1.05–2.00 GeV using data with an integrated luminosity of 94.5 $$\hbox {pb}^{-1}$$ pb - 1 collected by the SND detector at the VEPP-2000 $$e^{+}e^{-}$$ e + e - collider. The $$e^+e^-\rightarrow \eta \pi ^0\gamma $$ e + e - → η π 0 γ cross section is measured for the first time. It is shown that the dominant mechanism of this reaction is the transition through the $$\omega \eta $$ ω η intermediate state. The measured cross section of the subprocess $$e^+e^-\rightarrow \omega \eta \rightarrow \eta \pi ^0\gamma $$ e + e - → ω η → η π 0 γ is consistent with previous measurements in the $$e^+e^-\rightarrow \pi ^+\pi ^-\pi ^0\eta $$ e + e - → π + π - π 0 η mode. It is found, with a significance of $$5.6\sigma $$ 5.6 σ , that the process $$e^+e^-\rightarrow \eta \pi ^0\gamma $$ e + e - → η π 0 γ is not completely described by hadronic vector-pseudoscalar intermediate states. The cross section of this missing contribution, which can originate from radiation processes, e. g. $$e^+e^-\rightarrow a_{0}(1450)\gamma $$ e + e - → a 0 ( 1450 ) γ , is measured. It is found to be 15–20 pb in the wide energy range from 1.3 to 1.9 GeV.

Abstract The dynamics of the process $$ e^+e^- \rightarrow \pi ^+\pi ^-\pi ^0 $$ e + e - → π + π - π 0 is studied in the energy region from 1.15 to 2.00 GeV using data accumulated with the SND detector at the VEPP-2000 $$e^+e^-$$ e + e - collider. The Dalitz plot distribution and $$\pi ^+\pi ^-$$ π + π - mass spectrum are analyzed in a model including the intermediate states $$\rho (770)\pi $$ ρ ( 770 ) π , $$\rho (1450)\pi $$ ρ ( 1450 ) π , and $$\omega \pi ^0$$ ω π 0 . As a result, the energy dependences of the $$\rho (770)\pi $$ ρ ( 770 ) π and $$\rho (1450)\pi $$ ρ ( 1450 ) π cross sections and the relative phases between the $$\rho (770)\pi $$ ρ ( 770 ) π amplitude and the $$\rho (1450)\pi $$ ρ ( 1450 ) π and $$\omega \pi ^0$$ ω π 0 amplitudes are obtained. The $$\rho (1450)\pi $$ ρ ( 1450 ) π cross section has a peak in the energy region of the $$\omega (1650)$$ ω ( 1650 ) resonance (1.55–1.75 GeV). In this energy range the contributions of the $$\rho (770)\pi $$ ρ ( 770 ) π and $$\rho (1450)\pi $$ ρ ( 1450 ) π states are of the same order of magnitude. No resonance structure near 1.65 GeV is observed in the $$\rho (770)\pi $$ ρ ( 770 ) π cross section. We conclude that the intermediate state $$\rho (1450)\pi $$ ρ ( 1450 ) π gives a significant contribution to the decay of $$\omega (1650)\rightarrow \pi ^+\pi ^-\pi ^0$$ ω ( 1650 ) → π + π - π 0 , whereas the $$\rho (770)\pi $$ ρ ( 770 ) π mechanism dominates in the decay $$\omega (1420)\rightarrow \pi ^+\pi ^-\pi ^0$$ ω ( 1420 ) → π + π - π 0 .

Abstract

Abstract The cross section of the process e+e−→ ηπ+π− is measured using the data collected with the CMD-3 detector at the VEPP-2000 collider in the center-of-mass energy range from 1.1 to 2.0 GeV. The decay mode η → γγ is used for η meson reconstruction in the data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 78.3 pb−1. The energy dependence of the e+e−→ ηπ+π− cross section is fitted within the framework of vector meson dominance in order to extract the Γ(ρ(1450) → e+e−) B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (ρ(1450) → ηπ+π−) and the Γ(ρ(1700) → e+e−) B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (ρ(1700) → ηπ+π−) products. Based on conservation of vector current, the analyzed data are used to test the relationship between the e+e−→ ηπ+π− cross section and the spectral function in τ−→ ηπ−π0ντ decay. The e+e−→ ηπ+π− cross section obtained with the CMD-3 detector is in good agreement with the previous measurements.

Abstract

We present new ideas on tests of fundamental symmetries in polarization experiments at the NICA facility. Specifically, we explore the possibilities of high precision tests of the Standard Model by parity violation and searches of Beyond the Standard Model semistrong breaking of time reversal invariance in double polarized proton-deuteron scattering, taking advantage of high intensity beams of polarized protons and deuterons available at NICA. In both cases, we propose to use the new technique of polarized beam with precessing horizontal polarizations, and polarized deuterons are the favored choice. An external target in the extracted beam is optional for the parity violation experiment, which requires furnishing Nuclotron and/or new Booster with very modest new instrumentation. One should not overlook this potential for substantial broadening of the spin physics horizon at the NICA facility.

Abstract

VEPP-2000 is the only electron–positron collider with round beams. This factor enables one to increase the beam–beam effect limit. During the 2018–2019 season, the experimental program was focused on the energy range of 550–990 MeV per beam. Data accumulation was performed using CMD-3 and SND detectors. The measured luminosity integral proved to have a record value of 68 pb–1 per detector. After connecting to the BINP injection complex in 2016, the luminosity of VEPP-2000 is limited by the beam–beam effects in the entire energy range.

Abstract

Possible approaches to experimentally detecting P-parity violation in polarized proton or deuteron interactions with an unpolarized target are discussed. Within the first approach, a polarized proton or deuteron beam is scattered on a thick internal target deployed in one of rings of the NICA collider, and the spin state of the circulating beam is transformed to the mode of precession in the horizontal plane using an RF spin flipper. In this case, parity-violating effects can be probed by measuring the correlation between the interaction cross section and the particle spin direction. In an alternative experimental approach, beam-particle spins are rotated into the horizontal plane using a spin flipper, and then the beam is extracted to a beamline at a definite stage of spin precession. In this experimental scheme, which can be viewed as more traditional, one then collides the extracted beam with a dense external target and compares the measured cross sections for particles with opposite helicities passing through the target.

12. Experimental input from $e^+e^-$ machines to hadronic contribution to muon (g-2)

Abstract

Precise study of the hadrons production in $e^+e^-$ annihilation at low energies provides important information about interactions of light quarks and spectroscopy of their bound states. These studies are especially important for theoretical calculations of the muon $(g-2)$ via the Standard Model because of the present difference between theoretical and experimental values exceeds three standard deviations. In this report we will discuss current status and recent results obtained by the CMD-3 experiment and will give a brief look to status of the BaBar and Belle II experiments.

Abstract

This paper reports a current status of the measurements of the hadronic cross sections in the c.m. energy range from 0.32 to 2.0 GeV with the CMD-3 detector at the VEPP-2000 electron-positron collider. The overall size of the data, acquired by the CMD-3 in the runs of 2010–2013 and 2017–2018 years, is about 160 pb−1. The results of data analysis for various exclusive modes of e + e − → h a d r o n s are described.

Abstract

A study of hadron production at the nucleon-antinucleon threshold has been performed with the CMD-3 detector at the VEPP-2000 $e^+e^-$ collider. A very fast rise with about 1 MeV width has been observed in the $e^+e^- \to p\bar p$ cross section. A sharp drop in the $e^+e^- \to 3(\pi^+\pi^-)$ cross section has been confirmed and found to have a less than 2 MeV width, in agreement with the observed fast rise of the $e^+e^- \to p\bar p$ cross section. For the first time a similar sharp drop is demonstrated in the $e^+e^- \to K^+K^-\pi^+\pi^-$ cross section. The behavior of the $e^+e^- \to 3(\pi^+\pi^-),~ K^+K^-\pi^+\pi^-$ cross sections cannot be explained by an interference of any resonance amplitude with continuum, therefore this phenomenon cannot be due to a narrow near-threshold resonance. No such structure has been observed in the $e^+e^- \to 2(\pi^+\pi^-)$ cross section., Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures

Abstract

The cross section of the process e+e− → π+π− has been measured in the Spherical Neutral Detector (SND) experiment at the VEPP-2000 e+e− collider VEPP-2000 in the energy region 525 <$$ \sqrt{s} $$ s < 883 MeV. The measurement is based on data with an integrated luminosity of about 4.6 pb−1. The systematic uncertainty of the cross section determination is 0.8% at $$ \sqrt{s} $$ s > 0.600 GeV. The ρ meson parameters are obtained as mρ = 775.3 ± 0.5 ± 0.6 MeV, Γρ = 145.6 ± 0.6 ± 0.8 MeV, Bρ→e+e− × Bρ→π+π− = (4.89 ± 0.02 ± 0.04) × 10−5, and the parameters of the e+e− → ω → π+π− process, suppressed by G-parity, as Bω→e+e− × Bω→π+π− = (1.32 ± 0.06 ± 0.02) × 10−6 and and ϕρω = 110.7 ± 1.5 ± 1.0 degrees.

Abstract

The VEPP-2000 electron–positron collider has been operating at the Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics (BINP) since 2010. Applying the concept of round colliding beams allowed the record value of the beam–beam parameter ξ ∼ 0.12 to be reached. The upgrading of the VEPP-2000 complex, including the connection to the new BINP Injection Complex and modification of the electron–position booster and the BEP–VEPP-2000 transfer channels to work at 1 GeV, resulted in a significant increase in luminosity. Work on statistical data collection using detectors is in progress.

The cross section for the process e+e− → ηK+K− wasmeasured at c.m. energies in the range between 1.56 and 2.00 GeV in an experiment with the SND detector at the VEPP-2000 e+e− collider. The invariant-mass distribution of kaon pairs is consistent with the hypothesis that the transition through the ηφ intermediate state makes a dominant contribution to the transition in question.

The cross section of the process $e^+e^- \to \pi^+\pi^-\pi^0\eta$ has been measured using a data sample of 21.8 pb$^{-1}$ collected with the CMD-3 detector at the VEPP-2000 $e^+e^-$ collider. 2769$\pm$95 signal events have been selected in the center-of-mass energy range 1394--2005 MeV. The production dynamics is dominated by the $\omega(782)\eta$ and $\phi(1020)\eta$ intermediate states in the lower energy range, and by the $a_0(980)\rho(770)$ intermediate state at higher energies., Comment: 20 pages, 11 figures, 2 tables

Abstract

We analyze the data on e + e − collisions at c.m.s. energies between 0.32 and 2 GeV collected in 2011–2013 with the CMD3 detector operating at the VEPP-3 e + e − collider of the Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of nearly 60 pb-1. Preliminary results e + e − → K + K − nπ (n = 1, 2, 3) on the reactions with two charged kaons in the final state are presented, and the procedure for estimating the integrated luminosity for each energy setting is described.

Abstract

The process $e^+e^- \to \pi^+\pi^-\pi^0\eta$ is studied in the center-of-mass energy region below 2 GeV with the SND detector at the VEPP-2000 $e^+e^-$ collider. The four intermediate states contribute to this process: $\omega\eta$, $\phi\eta$, $a_0(980)\rho$, and a structureless $\pi^+\pi^-\pi^0\eta$ state. We measure the total $e^+e^- \to \pi^+\pi^-\pi^0\eta$ cross section and the cross sections for its components: $\omega\eta$, $\phi\eta$, and a sum of $a_0(980)\rho$ and the structureless state. Our results are in agreement with previous measurements and have comparable or better accuracies.

Abstract

A search for direct production of the $f_1(1285)$ resonance in $e^+e^-$ annihilation is performed with the SND detector at the VEPP-2000 $e^+e^-$ collider. The analysis is based on data with an integrated luminosity of 15.1 pb$^{-1}$ accumulated in the center-of-mass energy range 1.2--1.4 GeV. Two $e^+e^-\to f_1(1285)$ candidate events are found at the peak of the resonance and zero events beyond the resonance. The significance of the $e^+e^-\to f_1(1285)$ signal is $2.5\sigma$. The cross section at the maximum of the resonance is found to be $\sigma(e^+e^-\to f_1)=45^{+33}_{-24}$ pb. The corresponding branching fraction $B(f_1(1285)\to e^+e^-)=(5.1^{+3.7}_{-2.7})\times 10^{-9}$. We consider this result as a first indication of the process $e^+e^-\to f_1(1285)$. The measured branching fraction is consistent with the theoretical prediction., Comment: 11 pages, 4 figures

Abstract

The electron-positron collider VEPP-2000 operates at BINP from 2010 year. The application of round colliding beams concept along with the accurate orbit and lattice correction yielded the high peak luminosity of 1.2 × 1031 cm−2 s−1 at 500MeV. The peak luminosity limited only by beam-beam effects, while average luminosity–by present lack of positrons in whole energy range of 160–1000 MeV. To perform high luminosity at high energies the top-up injection is needed. At present new electron and positron injection complex at BINP is commissioned and ready to feed VEPP-2000 collider with intensive beams with energy of 450MeV.

Abstract

A wide world discussion have been opened few years ago about future e + e − collider after the Higgsboson discovery. Besides utterly high luminosity this machine has to operate with polarized beams. We shall overview in this paper problems and practical possibilities to satisfy second requirements of the future collider. The radiative beam polarization at this 100 km machine will be very long procedure. On other side, at the present time there are developed intensive polarized electron sources based on ArGa photo cathodes with polarization about 90 percents. We show, that fast electron synchrotron equipped pair Siberian Snake is able to provide to accelerate polarized electrons up to the top energy of the collider.

Using a data sample of 7.7 pb − 1 collected with the CMD-3 detector at the VEPP-2000 e + e − collider we select about 2900 events of the process e + e − → p p ¯ and measure its cross section at 12 energy points with about 6% systematic uncertainty. From the angular distribution of produced nucleons we obtain the ratio G E / G M .

Abstract

We report preliminary results on the cross section of the process e+e− → φ(1020)η measured at 30 center-of-mass energy points in the range from 1.59 up to 2.0 GeV. Data analysis is based on the integrated luminosity of 22 pb−1 collected with the CMD-3 detector in 2011–2012. The obtained cross section agrees with the BaBar measurement and has better statistical accuracy.

Abstract

Precise study of the hadrons production in \bm{e^+e^-}𝐞+𝐞− annihilation at low energies provides important information about interactions of light quarks and spectroscopy of their bound states. These studies are especially important for theoretical calculations of the muon \bm{(g-2)}(𝐠−2) via the Standard Model because of the present difference between theoretical and experimental values exceeds three standard deviations. In this report we will discuss current status and recent results obtained by the CMD-3 experiment and will give a brief look to status of the BaBar and Belle II experiments.

Abstract

The data sample collected in 2011-2013 at the c.m.s. energies between 0.32-2 GeV with the CMD-3 detector operating at the VEPP-2000 e+e− collider is analzed. The collected data corresponds to an integrated luminosity about ∼ 60pb−1. The techniques for determination of the integrated luminosity for each energy setting is described. Some preliminary results of the study of the processes e+e−→ K+ K− + nπ (n = 1,2,3) with two charged kaons in the final state are presented. These processes have several intermediate states, which are important to correctly descript the angular distributions of final particles and the cross sections dependence on the energy.

Abstract

The cross section of the process e+e−→ π+π−π+π− has been measured using an integrated luminosity of 17 pb−1 collected with the CMD-3 detector in the center-of-mass energy range 650-1000 MeV. High-precision measurements of various hadronic cross sections are of great interest in relation with the problem of the muon anomalous magnetic moment g-2. This measurement can be also used to test the relation between the cross section of e+e−→ π+ π−π+ π− and the spectral function for the τ−→ π−π0π0π0 decay predicted by the conservation of vector current (CVC).

Abstract

A brief review of the recent results on the hadronic cross section measurements with the CMD-3 detector at the e+e− collider VEPP-2000 is given. Focus is made on the processes with charged kaons in multihadron events, which have a strong impact on strange meson spectroscopy and form factors that are important ingredients in the Dalitz plot analysis. Experimental data relevant to the topic are presented from the broad energy range covered by VEPP-2000 and compared to earlier measurements by the different collaborations. The analysis is based on the integrated luminosity of about 100 pb−1 collected in 2011, 2012 and 2017.

Abstract

The CMD-3 detector is installed at the VEPP-2000 e+e− collider at BINP (Novosibirsk, Russia). It is a general-purpose detector, equipped with a tracking system, two crystal (CSI and BGO) calorimeters, liquid Xe calorimeter, TOF and muon systems. The main goal of experiments at CMD-3 is a study of exclusive modes of e+e−→ hadrons at energies $ \sqrt s \le $ GeV. In particular, these results provide an important input for calculation of the hadronic contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment. The first round of data taking was performed in 2011–2013, when about 60 1/pb were taken in the center-of-mass (c.m.) energy range from 0.32 to 2.0 GeV. Here we present a survey of results of data analysis. Between 2013 and 2016 the collider and the detector were upgraded. The data taking resumed by the end of 2016. In the first run after the upgrade about 50 1/pb were collected at the energy range between 1.28 and 2.007 GeV. We discuss the upgrade and the first preliminary results from the new data.

Abstract

A study of hadron production at the nucleon-antinucleon threshold has been performed with the CMD-3 detector at the VEPP-2000 e+e− collider. A very fast rise with an about 1 MeV width has been observed in the e+e−→ pp̅ cross section. A sharp drop in the e+ e−→ 3(π+π−) cross section has been con?rmed and found to have a width of less than 2 MeV, in agreement with the observed fast rise of the e+e−→ pp̅ cross section. For the ?rst time a similar sharp drop is demonstrated in the e+e−→ K+ K−π+π− cross section. The behavior of the e+e−→ 3(π+ π−), K+ K−π+π− cross sections cannot be explained by an interference of any resonance amplitude with continuum, therefore this phenomenon cannot be due to a narrow near-threshold resonance. No such structure has been observed in the e+e−→ 2(π+π−) cross section.

The collected data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 200 pb−1 in the center-of-mass energy range from 0.32 up to 2 GeV. Abstract

The process e+e-→π0γ is studied with the SND detector at the VEPP-2000 e+e- collider. Basing on data with an integrated luminosity of 41 pb-1 recorded in 2010-2012 we measure the e+e-→π0γ cross section in the center-of-mass energy range from 1.075 up to 2 GeV. In the range 1.4–2.0 GeV the process e+e-→π0γ is studied for the first time.

Abstract

A search for the rare decay $\eta \rightarrow e^+e^-$ is performed using the inverse process $e^+e^- \rightarrow \eta$ in the decay mode $\eta\to\pi^0\pi^0\pi^0 $. We analyze data with an integrated luminosity of 654 nb$^{-1} $ accumulated at the VEPP-2000 $e^+e^-$ collider with the SND detector at the center-of-mass energy $E=m_\eta c ^2\approx 548 $ MeV, and set the upper limit $ {\cal B} (\eta \rightarrow e^+ e^-) < 7 \times 10^{-7} $ at the 90\% confidence level.

Abstract

The so-called spin response formalism, which is linear response theory applied to spin dynamics in storage rings, can calculate the resonance strengths for spin flippers in storage rings of arbitrary structure, including rings with Siberian Snakes and spin rotators. We calculate so-called spin response functions for a model of the RHIC lattice, for various scenarios of spin rotator settings.

Abstract

The sensitivity of the VEPP-2000 e + e − collider in the search for the rare decay η → e + e − has been studied. The inverse reaction e + e − → η is proposed for this search. We have analyzed a data sample with an integrated luminosity of 108 nb−1 collected with the SND detector in the center-of-mass energy range 520–580 MeV and found no background events for the reaction e + e − → η in the decay mode η → π0π0π0. In the absence of background, a sensitivity to B(η → e + e −) of 10−6 can be reached during two weeks of VEPP-2000 operation. Such a sensitivity is higher than the current upper limit on B(η → e + e −) by a factor of 2.3.

Abstract

Experiments with the CMD-3 detector at the VEPP-2000 electron–positron collider in the range of center of mass collision energies from 0.32 to 2 GeV have been performed since December 2010. The amount of accumulated data corresponds to an integrated luminosity of about 60 pb-1. The resultsof a preliminary analysis are presented for the following annihilation channels: e + e - → 3(π+π-), 2(π+π-π0), K + K -π+π-, K + K -, $$p\bar p$$ , and π+π-. Since processes of electron–positron annihilation that involve the production of multihadron states proceed through several intermediate states, their analysis is necessary for the correct description of the emission-angle and invariant-mass distributions of product particles.
