Abstract Non-Hermitian physical systems have attracted considerable attention in recent years for their unique properties around exceptional points (EPs), where the eigenvalues and eigenstates of the system coalesce. Phase transitions near exceptional points can lead to various interesting phenomena, such as unidirectional wave transmission. However, most of those studies are in the classical regime and whether these properties can be maintained in the quantum regime is still a subject of ongoing studies. Using a non-Hermitian on-chip superconducting quantum circuit, here we observe a phase transition and the corresponding exceptional point between the two phases. Furthermore, we demonstrate that unidirectional microwave transmission can be achieved even in the few-photon regime within the broken symmetry phase. This result holds some potential applications, such as on-chip few-photon microwave isolators. Our study reveals the possibility of exploring the fundamental physics and practical quantum devices with non-Hermitian systems based on superconducting quantum circuits.

Abstract Purpose Bone metastases occur in 50-70% of patients with breast cancer (BC) and result in high mortality. Platelet distribution width (PDW), a commonly used parameter of activated platelets, has been associated with a poor prognosis in BC. We aim to investigate the prognostic role of PDW for bone metastasis in BC patients. Methods 515 patients who received BC surgery in the Harbin Medical University Cancer Hospital from July 1, 2016, to December 31, 2017, were reviewed. Patients’ characteristics and platelet indices upon enrollment in this study were collected. The Kaplan-Meier method was used to estimate the 5-year bone metastasis incidence. The univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses were utilized to identify risk factors associated with bone metastasis. Results The patients with bone metastases exhibited lower PDW levels than the patients without bone metastases. Moreover, decreased PDW was significantly correlated with histologic type, multifocal disease, and lymph node status. In addition, the patients with reduced PDW levels were more likely to develop bone metastasis. Multivariate analysis showed that PDW was an independent predictor for bone metastasis. Conclusion PDW is an independent predictor of bone metastasis in BC. Further research is warranted.

The interactions between plants and herbivorous insects are complex and involve multiple factors, driving species formation and leading to the beginning of co-evolution and diversification of plant and insect molecules. Various molecular processes regulate the interactions between plants and herbivorous insects. Here, we discuss the molecular patterns of plant perception of herbivorous insect feeding through activation of early signaling components, crosstalk of plant defense network composed of multiple plant hormones, and various adaptive changes in insect responses to plant defenses. Both plant defenses and insect counter-defenses are molecular adaptation processes to each other. Molecular models of plant-herbivorous insect interactions can more intuitively help us to understand the co-evolutionary arms race between plants and herbivorous insects. These results will provide detailed evidence to elucidate and enrich the interaction network of plant-herbivorous insects.

Introduction: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has been a highly common and pathological disease worldwide, while current therapeutic regimens have limitations. Chebulae Fructus, a common herbal medicine in Asia, has been documented to exert potential therapeutic effects on HCC in ancient medicine clinical practice. However, the molecular mechanism underlying its inhibitory effects on HCC requires further investigation.Methods: In this study, the anti-HCC effect of the aqueous extract of Chebulae Fructus (CFE) on human HCC and its underlying mechanism were evaluated. Assays including CCK8, EdU staining, crystal violet staining, cell clone formation, flow cytometry, wound healing, and transwell were used in vitro. The cell-derived xenograft (CDX) and patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models were used in vivo. Transcriptomics analysis, qRT-PCR, ELISA, IHC staining, and Western blotting were employed to determine the mechanism of action of CFE.Results: The results demonstrate that CFE effectively suppressed the proliferation and activity of HepG2 and PLC/PRF/5 HCC cells. CFE also induced apoptosis, and suppressed the migration and invasion abilities of these cells. Furthermore, CFE exhibited inhibitory effects on tumor growth in both H22 and PLC/PRF/5 mouse models, as well as in an HCC PDX model which is derived from patient tumor samples. Moreover, it was identified that CFE treatment specifically suppressed the Apelin/APJ system in HCC cells and tumor tissues. To investigate the role of the Apelin/APJ system in mediating the effects of CFE treatment, an APJ overexpressed cell model is established. Interestingly, it was found that the overexpression of APJ significantly diminished the inhibitory effects of CFE on HCC in vitro.Discussion: Collectively, this study provides compelling evidence that CFE exerts significant anti-HCC effects in cell and animal models. Moreover, our findings suggest that the Apelin/APJ system may play a vital role in the therapeutic effects of CFE against HCC.

We report an experimental demonstration of resonance fluorescence in a two-level superconducting artificial atom under two driving fields coupled to a detuned cavity. One of the fields is classical and the other is varied from quantum (vacuum fluctuations) to classical by controlling the photon number inside the cavity. The device consists of a transmon qubit strongly coupled to a one-dimensional transmission line and a coplanar waveguide resonator. We observe a sideband anticrossing and asymmetry in the emission spectra of the system through a one-dimensional transmission line, which is fundamentally different from the weak-coupling case. By changing the photon number inside the cavity, the emission spectrum of our doubly driven system approaches the case when the atom is driven by two classical bichromatic fields. We also measure the dynamical evolution of the system through the transmission line and study the properties of the first-order correlation function, Rabi oscillations, and energy relaxation in the system. The study of resonance fluorescence from an atom driven by two fields promotes understanding decoherence in superconducting quantum circuits and may find applications in superconducting quantum computing and quantum networks.

The ringing phenomenon has been studied in optical whispering gallery mode (WGM) resonators and can be used to sense the ultrafast process in spectroscopy. Here we observe the ringing phenomenon in a magnomechanical system for the first time, which is induced by the interference between the microwave photons converted from the damped phonons and the probing microwave photons. This interference eventually appears as a transparency window even along with the ringing phenomenon in the measured microwave reflection spectrum, which is influenced by the scanning speed and the input power. Then, the ringing spectroscopy is used to measure the coupling strength between the magnon and phonon modes, and outline the displacement profile of S1,2,2 mechanical mode in a YIG microsphere, demonstrating the theoretical analysis. In addition, the ring-up spectroscopy is developed in our magnomechanical system, laying the foundation for fast sensing based on mechanical motion.

Osteons are composed of concentric lamellar structure, the concentric lamellae are composed of periodic thin and thick sub-lamellae, and every 5 sub-lamellae is a cycle, the periodic helix angle of mineralized collagen fibers in two adjacent sub-lamellae is 30°. Four biomimetic models with different fiber helix angles were established and fabricated according to the micro-nano structure of osteon. The effects of the fiber periodic helical structure on impact characteristic and energy dissipation of multi-layer biomimetic composite were investigated. The calculation results indicated that the stress distribution, contact characteristics and fiber failur during impact, and energy dissipation of the composite are affected by the fiber helix angle. The stress concentration of composite materials under external impact can be effectively improved by adjusting the fiber helix angle when the material composition and material performance parameters are same. Compared with the sample30, the maximum stress of sample60 and sample90 increases by 38.1% and 69.8%, respectively. And the fiber failure analysis results shown that the model with a fiber helix angle of 30° has a better resist impact damage. The drop-weight test results shown that the impact damage area of the specimen with 30° helix angle is smallest among the four types of biomimetic specimens. The periodic helical structure of mineralized collagen fibers in osteon can effectively improve the impact resistance of cortical bone. The research results can provide useful guidance for the design and manufacture of high-performance, impact-resistant biomimetic composite materials.

The codling moth Cydia pomonella (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) is a major invasive pest of pome fruits and walnuts worldwide. Lambda-cyhalothrin (LCT) and abamectin (AM) have been frequently used in C. pomonella control, but control of this pest is very difficult because shortly after hatching, larvae of this insect bore tunnels and hide inside host plant fruit. In this study, a simulated field spray bioassay method was developed against neonate larvae of C. pomonella and concentration-response bioassays were conducted to evaluate the susceptibility of the neonate larvae to LCT and AM. Exposure of neonate larvae to sublethal concentration (LC30) of LCT or AM significantly reduced the survival rate of larvae (4th and 5th instars), lowered the mean weight of larvae and pupae, and decreased the daily maximal number of eggs laid and the total number of eggs laid (fecundity) per female. The sublethal effects, including reduced body mass, mean fecundity and net reproductive rate, extended mean generation time, and shortened oviposition period, were also found in transgenerational offspring. Furthermore, the transgenerational maternal effects were more obvious for AM than LCT, in comparison to the control. Additionally, the estimated population size was decreased by exposure to LC30 of LCT and AM, and the observed reduction of fecundity and population size within and across generations was likely the result of the downregulation of the reproduction-related vitellogenin gene (CpVg) after exposure to LC30 of LCT and AM. These results provide a better understanding of the overall effects of LCT and AM on C. pomonella and the transgenerational effects which should be taken into consideration when using insecticides in order to control C. pomonella.

Abstract Fibroblast-like synoviocytes (FLS) play a pathogenic role in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). STAT3 signaling is activated in FLS of RA patients (RA-FLS), which in turn causes RA-FLS hyperproliferation. RL is a traditional remedy for treating inflammatory diseases in China. It comprises Rosae Multiflorae Fructus and Lonicerae Japonicae Flos. A standardized ethanolic extract of RL (RLE) has been shown to exert anti-arthritic effects in collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) rats. Some constituents of RLE were reported to inhibit JAK2/STAT3 signaling in rat FLS. Here, we determined whether RLE inhibits FLS hyperproliferation, and explored the involvement of STAT3 signaling in this inhibition. In joints of CIA rats, RLE increased apoptotic FLS. In IL-6/sIL-6R-stimulated RA-FLS, RLE reduced cell viability and evoked cell apoptosis. In synovial tissues of CIA rats, RLE lowered the protein level of phospho-STAT3. In IL-6/sIL-6R-stimulated RA-FLS, RLE inhibited activation/phosphorylation of STAT3 and JAK2, decreased the nuclear localization of STAT3, and downregulated protein levels of Bcl-2 and Mcl-1. Over-activation of STAT3 diminished RLE’s anti-proliferative effects in IL-6/sIL-6R-stimulated RA-FLS. In summary, RLE inhibits hyperproliferation of FLS in rat and cell models, and suppression of STAT3 signaling contributes to the underlying mechanisms. This study provides further pharmacological groundwork for developing RLE as a modern anti-arthritic drug.

BackgroundBreast cancer is one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers, and the fourth leading cause of cancer deaths in females worldwide. Sarcopenia is related to adverse clinical outcomes in patients with malignancies. Muscle index is a key parameter in evaluating sarcopenia. However, there is no data investigating the association between muscle index and distant metastasis in breast cancer. The aim of this study was to explore whether muscle index can effectively predict distant metastasis and death outcomes in breast cancer patients.Study DesignThe clinical data of 493 breast cancer patients at the Harbin Medical University Cancer Hospital between January 2014 and December 2015 were retrospectively analyzed. Quantitative measurements of pectoralis muscle area and skeletal muscle area were performed at the level of the fourth thoracic vertebra (T4) and the eleventh thoracic vertebra (T11) of the chest computed tomography image, respectively. The pectoralis muscle index (PMI) and skeletal muscle index (SMI) were assessed by the normalized muscle area (area/the square of height). Survival analysis was performed using the log-rank test and Cox proportional hazards regression analysis.ResultThe patients with metastases had lower PMI at T4 level (PMI/T4) and SMI at T11 level (SMI/T11) compared with the patients without metastases. Moreover, there were significant correlations between PMI/T4 and lymphovascular invasion, Ki67 expression, multifocal disease, and molecular subtype. In addition, multivariate analysis revealed that PMI/T4, not SMI/T11, was an independent prognostic factor for distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS) and overall survival (OS) in breast cancer patients.ConclusionsLow PMI/T4 is associated with worse DMFS and OS in breast cancer patients. Future prospective studies are needed.

Abstract Background Herba Siegesbeckiae (HS), the dried aerial parts of Siegesbeckia orientalis L., S. pubescens Makino, or S. glabrescens Makino, is traditionally used for treating chronic diseases in China. However, there is no information about the chronic toxicity of HS. The objective of this study is to evaluate the 24-week oral dosing toxicities of HS aqueous extract (HSE) in rats. Methods S. orientalis-originated HS was reflux-extracted with distilled water. Sprague–Dawley rats were randomly divided into four groups, with 10 males and 10 females in each group. The rats were intragastrically administered with HSE at 5, 1.67 and 0.56 g/kg (experimental groups) or an equal volume of distilled water (control group), 6 days a week, for 24 weeks. The high dose of HSE (5 g/kg) was its maximum tolerated dose. Body weight was recorded every 2 days during the experimental period. Chemical, hematological and histopathological parameters, as well as organ weights, were measured at the end of the experiment. Results Decreased body weight gain; increased liver and lung relative weights; histopathological alterations in liver and lung tissues; elevated serum levels of alkaline phosphatase, aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase and lactate dehydrogenase were found after HSE treatments. In liver tissues, HSE treatment upregulated levels of three pro-inflammatory cytokines: IL-6, IL-1β and TNF-α. In lung tissues, HSE treatment caused oxidative stress and activated mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs). Conclusion Long-term oral administration of HSE caused toxicities in rats evidenced by decreased body weight gain, as well as liver and lung damage. Treatment-induced oxidative stress, inflammation and MAPK activation are involved in HSE’s toxicities. Caution should be taken when using HS to treat chronic diseases.

This paper proposes two novel hybrid rotors permanent magnet (PM) machines for the high torque density in short duration condition operation. In order to enhance the torque performance, the flux concentrated structure of spoke-type PM is employed to increase the air-gap flux density. Meanwhile, the non-magnetic connector of the rotor is employed to eliminate the magnetic flux leakage. The rotors of the conventional machines and the proposed machines are optimized by the finite element analysis (FEA). Furthermore, based on the comparisons of electromagnetic performances for the optimized machines, including the open-circuit flux density, torque, PM eddy current loss, overload capability, the characteristics of the proposed machines are analyzed. The results indicate that the proposed machine can improve the torque at rated and overload operation with growth rate 14.3% and 13.1%, respectively. Finally, a 12-slots/10-pole PM machine is prototyped and FEA is to be validated.

We propose an implementation of a generalized Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) model based on optomechanical arrays. The topological properties of the generalized SSH model depend on the effective optomechanical interactions which can be controlled by strong driving fields. Three phases including one trivial and two distinct topological phases are found in the generalized SSH model. The phase transition can be observed by turning the strengths and phases of the effective optomechanical interactions via adjusting the driving fields. Moreover, four types of edge states can be created in generalized SSH model of an open chain under single-particle excitation, and the dynamical behaviors of the excitation in the open chain are related to the topological properties under the periodic boundary condition. We show that the edge states can be pumped adiabatically along the optomechanical arrays by periodically modulating the amplitude and frequency of the driving fields, and the state pumping is robust against small disorders. The generalized SSH model based on the optomechanical arrays provides us a controllable platform to engineer topological phases for photons and phonons, which may have potential applications in controlling the transport of photons and phonons.

Background. Elevated platelet volume is the risk factor for the development and poor overall survival of colorectal cancer (CRC) patients. Both microsatellite status and platelet glycoprotein Ibα (GPIbα) are related to platelet volume in CRC patients. This study aimed to investigate platelet GPIbα ectodomain (termed glycocalicin) levels among CRC patients and the association between the glycocalicin levels and microsatellite status in CRC. Methods. The clinical and laboratory data of 430 CRC patients between January 2018 and December 2018 in Harbin Medical University Cancer Hospital were collected. The microsatellite status was determined with a polymerase chain reaction. The participants were separated into high microsatellite instability (MSI-H) and microsatellite stable (MSS) groups according to microsatellite status. The glycocalicin levels were measured with an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and the cut-off point was determined with the receiver-operating characteristics curve. The clinical and pathological characteristics were collected via electronic medical records. Logistic regression was used to explore the association between glycocalicin and microsatellite status. Results. Among the 430 CRC patients enrolled, 64 patients (14.9%) were identified as MSI-H and others as MSS CRC. Glycocalicin levels were significantly reduced in patients with MSI-H than those with MSS. After controlling for potential confounders, logistic regression analysis revealed that glycocalicin levels were independently associated with MSI-H CRC. Conclusions. Reduced glycocalicin levels are associated with the MSI-H subtype of CRC. Further research is needed to elucidate the mechanisms of the association between glycocalicin and MSI-H in CRC patients.

This paper presents an analytical method for predicting the electromagnetic performance in permanent magnet (PM) machine with the spoke-type rotor (STR) and a proposed hybrid rotor structure (HRS), respectively. The key of this method is to combine magnetic field analysis model (MFAM) with the magnetic equivalent circuit model. The influence of the irregular PM shape is considered by the segmentation calculation. To obtain the boundary condition in the MFAM, respectively, two equivalent methods on the rotor side are proposed. In the STR, the average flux density of the rotor core outer-surface is calculated to solve the Laplace's equation with considering for the rotor core outer-surface eccentric. In the HRS, based on the Thevenin's theorem, the equivalent parameters of PM remanence BreB and thickness hpme are obtained as a given condition, which can be utilized to compute the air-gap flux density by conventional classic magnetic field analysis model of surface-mounted PMs with air-gap region. Finally, the proposed analytical models are verified by the finite element analysis (FEA) with comparisons of the air-gap flux density, flux linkage, back-EMF and electromagnetic torque, respectively. Furthermore, the performance that the machine with the proposed hybrid structure rotor can improve the torque density as explained.

Abstract We study the absorption spectrum of a probe field by a Λ-type three-level system, which is coupled to a quantized control field through the two upper energy levels. The probe field is applied to the ground and the second excited states. When the quantized control field is in vacuum, we derive a threshold condition to discern vacuum induced transparency (VIT) and vacuum induced Autler-Townes splitting (ATS). We also find that the parameter changing from VIT to vacuum induced ATS is very similar to that from broken PT symmetry to PT symmetry. Moreover, we find the photon number resolved spectrum in the parameter regime of vacuum induced ATS when the mean photon number of the quantized control field is changed from zero (vacuum) to a finite number. However, there is no photon number resolved spectrum in the parameter regime of VIT even that the quantized control field contains the finite number of photons. Finally, we further discuss possible experimental realization.

We experimentally study a circuit quantum acoustodynamics system with a superconducting artificial atom coupled to both a two-dimensional surface acoustic wave resonator and a one-dimensional microwave transmission line. The strong coupling between the artificial atom and the acoustic wave resonator is confirmed by the observation of the vacuum Rabi splitting at the base temperature of dilution refrigerator. We show that the propagation of microwave photons in the microwave transmission line can be controlled by a few phonons in the acoustic wave resonator. Furthermore, we demonstrate the temperature effect on the measurements of the Rabi splitting and temperature induced transitions from high excited dressed states. We find that the spectrum structure of two-peak for the Rabi splitting could become into those of several peaks under some special experimental conditions, and gradually disappears with the increase of the environmental temperature T . The continuous quantum-to-classical crossover is observed around the crossover temperature T _c , which is determined via the thermal fluctuation energy k _B T and the characteristic energy level spacing of the coupled system. Experimental results agree well with the theoretical simulations via the master equation of the coupled system at different effective temperatures.

Quantum state engineering necessitates transfer between quantum states. Here the authors demonstrate coherent population transfer between un- or weakly-coupled states of solid state systems, superconducting Xmon and phase qutrits, using stimulated Raman adiabatic passage and microwave driving.

Quantum matter with exotic topological order has potential applications in quantum computation. However, in present experiments, the manipulations on topological states are still challenging. We here propose an architecture for optical control of topological matter. We consider a topological superconducting qubit array with a Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) Hamiltonian which couples to a microwave cavity. Based on parity properties of the topological qubit array, we propose an optical spectroscopy method to observe the topological phase transition, i.e., edge-to-bulk transition. This new method can be achieved by designing cavity-qubit couplings. A main purpose of this work is to understand how the topological phase transition affects light-matter interaction. We find that the topological bandgap plays an essential role on this issue. In the topological phase, the resonant vacuum Rabi splitting of degenerate edge states coupling to the cavity field is protected from those of bulk states by the bandgap. In the dispersive regime, the cavity induced coupling between edge states is dominant over couplings between edge and bulk states, due to the topological bandgap. As a result, quantum interference between topological edge states occurs and enables single-photon transport through boundaries of the topological qubit array. Our work may pave a way for topological quantum state engineering.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the major form of primary liver cancer, is a common cause of cancer-related death worldwide. Signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) signaling is constantly activated in HCC and has been proposed as a chemotherapeutic target for HCC. Antrodia camphorata (AC), a medicinal mushroom unique to Taiwan, is traditionally used for treating HCC. Whereas natural AC is scarce, cultured AC mycelia are becoming alternatives. In this study, we investigated the anti-HCC effects of the ethyl acetate fraction of an ethanolic extract of AC mycelia (EEAC), particularly exploring the involvement of STAT3 signaling in these effects. We found that EEAC reduced cell viability, induced apoptosis, and retarded migration and invasion in cultured HepG2 and SMMC-7721 cells. Immunoblotting results showed that EEAC downregulated protein levels of phosphorylated and total STAT3 and JAK2 (an upstream kinase of STAT3) in HCC cells. Real-time PCR analyses showed that STAT3, but not JAK2, mRNA levels were decreased by EEAC. EEAC also lowered the protein level of nuclear STAT3, decreased the transcriptional activity of STAT3, and downregulated protein levels of STAT3-targeted molecules, including anti-apoptotic proteins Bcl-xL and Bcl-2, and invasion-related proteins MMP-2 and MMP-9. Over-activation of STAT3 in HCC cells diminished the cytotoxic effects of EEAC. In SMMC-7721 cell-bearing mice, EEAC (100 mg/kg, i.g. for 18 days) significantly inhibited tumor growth. Consistent with our in vitro data, EEAC induced apoptosis and suppressed JAK2/STAT3 activation/phosphorylation in the tumors. Taken together, EEAC exerts anti-HCC effects both in vitro and in vivo; and inhibition of STAT3 signaling is, at least in part, responsible for these effects. We did not observe significant toxicity of EEAC in normal human liver-derived cells, nude mice and rats. Our results provide a pharmacological basis for developing EEAC as a safe and effective agent for HCC management.

Electric actuators with fast dynamic response and high torque density are widely used in aerospace and industrial applications. In this paper, the design and optimization of a short-term high-overload permanent magnet synchronous motor (STHO-PMSM) is presented. The rated working point is optimized according to the operating conditions of the motor. The effect of electromagnetic load on the extreme torque which mainly include ampoule number and the magnetic energy of the PM is researched. Due to the nonlinear saturation influence, the equivalent magnetic network model is established. The saturation torque discount factor is proposed to quantify the degree of the core magnetic saturation. Winding temperature model is presented to inspect the motor reliability. To verify the feasibility and accuracy of mathematical model analysis (MMA), the performance of the motor in different currents is investigated compared to the finite element analysis (FEA). A prototype motor is manufactured and tested. The results of the MMA, FEA, and experiment show that the designed motor can achieve the high performance with the 10 times overload in a short time. The method of the MMA can relatively accurately predict as well as take less time consumption.

In contrast to natural atoms, the potential energies for superconducting flux qubit (SFQ) circuits can be artificially controlled. When the inversion symmetry of the potential energy is broken, we find that multi-photon processes can coexist in multi-level SFQ circuits. Moreover, there are not only transverse but also longitudinal couplings between the external magnetic fields and the SFQs when the inversion symmetry of potential energy is broken. Longitudinal coupling would induce some new phenomena in the SFQs. Here we will show how longitudinal coupling can result in the coexistence of multi-photon processes in a two-level system formed by an SFQ circuit. We also show that the SFQs can become transparent to the transverse coupling fields when the longitudinal coupling fields satisfy certain conditions. We further show that the quantum Zeno effect can also be induced by longitudinal coupling in the SFQs. Finally, we clarify why longitudinal coupling can induce the coexistence and disappearance of single- and two-photon processes for a driven SFQ, which is coupled to a single-mode quantized field.

The mineralogical development and diagenetic sequence of lacustrine shales in the Chang 7 Member of the Yanchang Formation in the Ordos Basin are detailed studied. A model of their depositional system and a diagenetic diagram are proposed in this study. Through detailed petrographic, mineralogical, and elemental analyses, four distinct shale types are identified: argillaceous shale, siliceous shale, calcareous shale, and carbonate, clay, and silt-bearing shale. The main diagenetic process in argillaceous shale is the transformation of illite to smectite, negatively impacting shale porosity. Siliceous shale undergoes carbonate cementation and quartz dissolution, contributing to increased porosity, particularly in mesopores. Calcareous shale experiences diagenesis characterised by carbonate formation and dissolution, with a prevalence of siderite. In carbonate, clay, and silt-bearing shale, the dissolution of K-feldspar contributes to illitization of kaolinite. Argillaceous shale, characterised by more clay minerals and lower mesopore volume, is identified as a potential hydrocarbon seal. Siliceous shale, with the highest pore volume and abundant inter-mineral pores, emerges as a promising shale oil reservoir.
