Although teacher empathy has an important influence on adolescents' positive academic emotions, the mediating mechanism between these two factors remains unclear. This study examines whether interpersonal emotion regulation plays a mediating role in the relationship between perceived teacher empathy and teenagers' positive academic emotions. A total of 755 teenagers completed the Interpersonal Reactivity Index, the Adolescents' Academic Emotions Questionnaire, and the Interpersonal Regulation Questionnaire. The results revealed significant correlations between two subscales of the Interpersonal Reactivity Index, perspective-taking and empathic concern; two dimensions of the Adolescents' Academic Emotions Questionnaire, high and low positive arousal; and two dimensions of the Interpersonal Regulation Questionnaire, positive and negative emotion interpersonal emotion regulation. Perceived teacher empathy positively predicted teenagers' positive academic emotions, and interpersonal emotion regulation played a mediating role.

Counter-empathy may have more serious negative effects on women than on men. Sixty-four female Chinese university students participated in this study. Based on the counter-empathy model in a competitive setting, we examined how forgiveness affects counter-empathy. We manipulated the degree of participants' forgiveness toward their opponents by changing the type of information they received from their opponents. We also measured counter-empathy through self-reported pleasantness caused by opponents' facial expressions (smiles or frowns). We found that forgiveness can effectively alleviate women's counter-empathy, restraining their emotional experience from being inconsistent with the offender and enhancing their empathic concern toward the offender. We preliminarily explored how forgiveness works on counter-empathy and provided insight into the use of forgiveness to maintain global women's emotional health. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Vegetables are an excellent source of biologically active compounds and natural antioxidants, such as phenols, carotenoids and chlorophyll, etc. But most vegetables are eaten after cooking. Domestic cooking methods include boiling, steaming, microwaving, roasting, frying, and sous-vide. These cooking methods lead to changes in the nutritional and processing characteristics of vegetables, but only some of the changes are desirable. There are many reports on cooking various vegetables, but the summary of these aspects is relatively few and not comprehensive. Therefore, we recognize the need to update the quality, nutritional composition, chemical properties and health benefits of vegetables. We reviewed the results of many studies that evaluated the effects of different cooking methods on the physicochemical, nutritional characteristics, and antioxidant activity of different varieties of vegetables. Studies have shown that although cooking can cause the degradation of certain biologically active compounds, the denaturation of antioxidant and the decline of sensory properties, it is also possible to preserve and protect bioactive compounds and their antioxidant activity through appropriate cooking methods. Therefore, the selection of appropriate cooking methods and conditions is crucial for the optimal sensory properties of the selected vegetables and the content of beneficial compounds. Rechargeable lithium-carbon dioxide (Li-CO2) batteries have attracted much attention due to their high theoretical energy densities and capture of CO2. However, the electrochemical reaction mechanisms of rechargeable Li-CO2 batteries, particularly the decomposition mechanisms of the discharge product Li2CO3 are still unclear, impeding their practical applications. Exploring electrochemistry of Li2CO3 is critical for improving the performance of Li-CO2 batteries. Herein, in-situ environmental transmission electron microscopy (ETEM) technique was used to study electrochemistry of Li2CO3 in Li-CO2 batteries during discharge and charge processes. During discharge, Li2CO3 was nucleated and accumulated on the surface of the cathode media such as carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and Ag nanowires (Ag NWs), but it was hard to decompose during charging at room temperature. To promote the decomposition of Li2CO3, the charge reactions were conducted at high temperatures, during which Li2CO3 was decomposed to lithium with release of gases. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations revealed that the synergistic effect of temperature and biasing facilitates the decomposition of Li2CO3. This study not only provides a fundamental understanding to the high temperature Li-CO2 nanobatteries, but also offers a valid technique, i.e., discharging/charging at high temperatures, to improve the cyclability of Li-CO2 batteries for energy storage applications. In this paper, ternary NiWP alloy coatings were prepared by electrodeposition, and the effects of sodium hypophosphite (NaHPO) concentration on the properties of the coatings, including the deposition rate, current efficiency, composition, surface morphology, corrosion resistance, and microhardness, were investigated. Results reveal that the deposition rate and current efficiency are mainly dependent on the NaHPO concentration in the plating bath. The deposition rate reaches a maximum value of 8.70 μm/h with a NaHPO concentration of 10 g/L, whereas the total current efficiency decreases from 33.10 to 27.80%. As the concentration of NaHPO increases, the grain size of the obtained coatings gradually decreases. Moreover, when the NaHPO concentration is 6 g/L, the NiWP alloy coatings possess a microhardness value of 663.7 HV. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Statement of Problem: Implant surgical guides manufactured using different fabrication methods have been commonly used for computer-guided implant placement. However, how fabrication methods and the number of supporting teeth influence accuracy and stability remains uncertain., Purpose: The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the influence of fabrication methods and number of supporting teeth on the surface accuracy and dimensional stability of implant surgical guides with 3 different 3-dimensional (3D) printers and 1 computer numeric controlled (CNC) milling machine., Material and Methods: Two tooth-supported maxillary implant surgical guides with different number of supporting teeth (S: short span with 4 supporting teeth, L: long span with complete arch supporting) were used to fabricate the specimens. Eighty surgical guides were fabricated from 3 different 3D printers and 1 milling machine as follows: group SLA-S (n=10) and SLA-L (n=10) were fabricated with a desktop stereolithography (SLA) 3D printer and photopolymerizing resin; group PolyJet-S (n=10) and PolyJet-L (n=10) were fabricated with a PolyJet 3D printer and photopolymerizing resins; group DLP-S (n=10) and DLP-L (n=10) were fabricated with a desktop digital light processing (DLP) 3D printer and photopolymerizing resin; and group MILL-S (n=10) and group MILL-L (n=10) were fabricated with a 5-axis milling machine and polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) blanks. All surgical guides were digitized immediately after postprocessing and after 1, 2, and 3 months using a desktop scanner. The congruency between design files and digitized files was quantified with the root mean square (RMS) error with a metrology program (Geomagic Control X). Two-way ANOVA was used to analyze trueness, and the Levene test was used to assess precision (α=.05)., Results: The fabrication methods and number of supporting teeth significantly affected the surface trueness of the guide (P<.001). Milled guides had the lowest mean RMS value for surface trueness, 45 µm for guides with 4 supporting teeth and 59 µm for guides with complete arch supporting. Regarding precision, the Levene test revealed significant difference among fabrication methods (P<.05), while no significant difference was found in the same fabrication method group (P>.05). After 3 months of storage, RMS values increased significantly in the complete arch supporting group comparison of SLA, PolyJet, and DLP (P<.001, P<.001, and P=.015, respectively). RMS values remained similar in other groups., Conclusions: The trueness and dimensional stability of the surface of the implant surgical guides were affected by fabrication methods and the number of supporting teeth. However, the precision was only affected by fabrication methods. Milled surgical guides showed higher accuracy and better dimensional stability after storage than those produced with 3D printers. Our emotional response to people is discordant with their emotional experience in competitive situations; this phenomenon is termed "counterempathy." Using event-related potentials, this study investigated the neural underpinnings of the effect of forgiveness on counterempathy. Twenty-seven female university students participated in a two phase-interpersonal competitive game with two other players whose smiles and frowns indicated the participant's losing and winning, respectively. In the "passive" phase, participants were passively punished with a high- or low-intensity noise chosen by the opponent each time they lost a trial (i.e., the opponent smiles). During the break, participants received a negative or friendly message from each opponent. Participants were more likely to forgive the opponent who had sent a friendly message. In the "active" phase, participants could punish both opponents when they won a trial (i.e., the opponent frowns). Behavioral data showed that participants' empathic responses were inconsistent with the opponents' expressions, and that forgiveness could weaken this effect. The electrophysiological data revealed that both very early emotional sharing (reflected in the N170) and late elaborative cognitive evaluation stage (reflected in the P300) of counterempathy were affected by forgiveness, whereas the early automatic cognitive evaluation stage (reflected in the feedback-related negativity [FRN]) was not. Metal-organic framework (MOF)-derived carbon materials were widely reported as the anodes of lithium-ion capacitors (LICs). However, tunning the structure and electrochemical performance of the MOF-derived carbon materials is still challenging. Herein, metal carbide materials of Co 3 ZnC@NC-8:2 were obtained by the pyrolysis of the MOF materials of Co 0.2 Zn 0.8 ZIF-8 (Zn/Co ratio of 8:2). A half-cell assembled with the Co 3 ZnC@NC-8:2 electrode exhibits a discharge capacity of the electrode material of 598 mAh g -1 at a current density of 0.1 A g -1 . After 100 cycles, the retention rate of discharge specific capacity is about 90%. The high performance of Co 3 ZnC@NC-8:2 is ascribed to its high crystalline degree and well-defined structure, which facilitates the intercalation/deintercalation of lithium ions and buffers the volume change during the charge/discharge process. The high capacitance contribution ratio calculated by cyclic voltammetry (CV) curves at different scanning rates indicates the pseudocapacitance storage mechanism. LICs constructed from the Co 3 ZnC@NC-8:2 material have a rectangular CV curve, while the charge-discharge curve has a symmetrical triangular shape.
