BackgroundColor groups of fruits and vegetables (FV) are part of a healthy diet, but evidence for an association with cardiometabolic outcomes is inconsistent.ObjectiveTo examine the association between intake of FV of different colors with incident diabetes and cardiometabolic risk biomarkers among U.S. Hispanics/Latinos.Subjects/methodsWe used data from 9206 adults ages 18-74 years who were free of diabetes at baseline (2008-2011) and had follow-up data at visit 2 (2014-2017) in the Hispanic Community Health Study/Study of Latinos (HCHS/SOL), a multicenter, prospective cohort study of self-identified Hispanics/Latinos. Dietary intake was assessed using two 24 h recalls at baseline. FV were categorized into five color groups: green, white, yellow/orange, red/purple, and uncategorized. Diabetes was defined based on laboratory measures and self-reported antihyperglycemic medication. We used survey logistic regression models to evaluate the association between FV color groups and incident diabetes and survey linear regression models to evaluate the association of FV color groups with cardiometabolic risk biomarkers at visit 2.ResultsDuring ~6 years of follow-up, 970 incident cases of diabetes were documented. The red/purple FV color group was the least consumed (0.21 servings/day), whereas white FV were the most consumed (0.92 servings/day). For each serving of total FV intake, body mass index (BMI) was lower by 0.24% (p = 0.03) and insulin by 0.69% (p = 0.03). For each serving of red/purple FV intake, HDL was 1.59% higher (p = 0.04). For each serving of white FV intake (with potato), post-OGTT was 0.83% lower (p = 0.04) and triglycerides 1.43% lower (p = 0.04). There was no association between FV intake and incident diabetes.ConclusionsSpecific FV colors were associated with cardiometabolic benefits though the associations were of relatively small magnitudes. Dietary recommendations could consider varying colors of FV intake, especially white and red/purple color groups, for a healthy diet.

To reduce the leakage and power consumption of metal–oxide resistive random access memory (RRAM), we propose and fabricate a cold-electrode (CE) RRAM (CE-RRAM) by extending the mechanism of cold-source FETs. First-principles calculations show that the n-Si/TiN composite CE can filter electrons with energy within the Si bandgap, which contribute to leakage current. A n-Si/TiN/HfOx/Pt CE-RRAM with low leakage current and large on/off current ratio was designed and fabricated. Comparative analysis with conventional RRAM demonstrates over a 100-fold reduction in leakage current in a high resistance state and a tenfold improvement in the Ion/Ioff ratio. Additionally, the CE-RRAM effectively suppresses the overshoot effect in terminal I–V characteristics and exhibits good endurance, maintaining a 100 Ion/Ioff ratio after 104 cycles. “Emotion” (情) is a very complex concept in Confucianism, but it can be interpreted in five dimensions. Interpreted as “innate instinct,” emotion refers to the cognitive attributes and physiological basis of emotion. Interpreted in terms of desire, it emphasizes the regulation and restriction of emotion. Construed in terms of Qi (氣), it indicates the source and path of emotion. The interpretation of emotion by nature (性) is most commonly used by Confucians and constitutes the fundamental position of Confucianism. Confucianism can both unify “nature” and “emotion” and also downgrade the status of emotion. The interpretation of emotion by Yin (陰) and Yang (陽) explains the nature and principle of emotion with the help of the rules of heaven. Recently, along with the booming of research and production of CMOS Integrated Bio-sensing System, selective assembly of organic nano-particles on the on-chip electrodes, which serves for specific bio-sensing and detection purposes, is in high demand in areas like biological analysis and detection, DNA probing and surveying systems and etc. In this paper, a fully integrated bio-circuit targeting at electrical selective assembly of charged nano-particles is proposed and designed in SMIC 0.18 μm CMOS mixed signal process. The proposed circuit integrates the 16 pixels of 19 μm × 19 μm electrode array, counter electrode, potentiostat circuit, digital decoding circuit, as well as control logics on a single chip, and provides a rail-to-rail range of assembling voltage, a potential resolution of 8 bit, and a maximal assembling current up to 459 μA, biased at a current of 1 μA. Meanwhile, a novel electrode-reuse scheme is also proposed to further simplify the architecture and save chip area as well, without degrading the functionalities. Experimental results from on-chip selective assembly of 50 nm polystyrene nano-particles are included and discussed to verify the feasibility of the proposed circuits.

The accumulation of pesticide residues poses a significant threat to the health of people and the surrounding ecological systems. However, traditional methods are not only costly but require expertise in analysis. An electrochemiluminescence (ECL) aptasensor was developed using chitosan and molybdenum disulfide (CTS-MoS2), along with acetylene black (AB@CTS) for the rapid detection of malathion residues. Due to the weak interaction force, simple composite may lead to uneven dispersion; MoS2 and AB were dissolved in CTS solution, respectively, and utilized the biocompatibility of CTS to interact with each other on the electrode. The MoS2 nanosheets provided a large specific surface area, enhancing the utilization rate of catalytic materials, while AB exhibited excellent conductivity. Additionally, the dendritic polylysine (PLL) contained numerous amino groups to load abundant luminol to catalyze hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and generate reactive oxygen species (ROS). The proposed ECL aptasensor obtained a low detection limit of 2.75 × 10−3 ng/mL (S/N = 3) with a good detection range from 1.0 × 10−2 ng/mL to 1.0 × 103 ng/mL, demonstrating excellent specificity, repeatability, and stability. Moreover, the ECL aptasensor was successfully applied for detecting malathion pesticide residues in authentic samples with recovery rates ranging from 94.21% to 99.63% (RSD < 2.52%). The Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) document suggests that patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) should be divided into a less symptomatic group. Moreover, single-inhaled drugs are recommended as initial inhalation therapy for them. However, many less symptomatic patients are provided double or triple-inhaled drugs as initial therapy in the real world. This study aimed to describe the inhalation prescriptions and compare the effects of different inhalation therapies on less symptomatic COPD patients. This was an observational study. Stable COPD patients were recruited and divided into a less symptomatic group including Groups A and C based on the GOLD 2019 document. We collected the data of inhalation therapies prescriptions. Then, the patients were classified into long-acting muscarinic antagonist (LAMA), long-acting β2-agonist (LABA) + inhaled corticosteroid (ICS), LABA + LAMA, and LABA + LAMA + ICS groups. All the patients were followed up for 1 year to collect exacerbation and mortality data. We found that only 45.4% of patients in Group A and 43.6% of patients in Group C received reasonable inhalation therapy in reference to the GOLD document. In addition, the LAMA group had a higher forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1), FEV1%pred, FEV1/forced vital capacity and peak expiratory flow compared with LABA + ICS, LABA + LAMA and LABA + LAMA + ICS groups. However, we did not find any significant differences of exacerbation, hospitalization and mortality during the follow-up among different inhalation therapies groups on less symptomatic COPD patients. Over half of the less symptomatic patients received inhalation therapy that were inconsistent with the GOLD document recommendations in a Chinese population in the real world. In fact, the single inhaled drug of LAMA should be recommended and pulmonary function is not a good indicator for the choice of initial inhalation therapy in less symptomatic COPD patients. Riboswitches naturally regulate gene expression in bacteria by binding to specific small molecules. Class 1 preQ1 riboswitch aptamer is an important model not only for RNA folding but also as a target for designing small molecule antibiotics due to its well-known minimal aptamer domain. Here, we ran a total of 62.4 μs conventional and enhanced-sampling molecular dynamics (MD) simulations to characterize the determinants underlying the binding of the preQ1-II riboswitch aptamer to two preQ1 ligands in one binding pocket. Decomposition of binding free energy suggested that preQ1 ligands at α and β sites interact with four nucleotides (G5, C17, C18, and A30) and two nucleotides (A12 and C31), respectively. Mg2+ ions play a crucial role in both stabilizing the binding pocket and facilitating ligand binding. The flexible preQ1 ligand at the β site leads to the top of the binding pocket loosening and thus pre-organizes the riboswitch for ligand entry. Enhanced sampling simulations further revealed that the preQ1 ligand at the α site unbinds through two orthogonal pathways, which are dependent on whether or not a β site preQ1 ligand is present. One of the two preQ1 ligands has been identified in the binding pocket, which will aid to identify the second preQ1 Ligand. Our work provides new information for designing robust ligands. The Confucian philosophy of the Dao of due consideration 恕 (shu) and of "Do not impose upon others what you yourself do not desire " 己所不欲，勿施於人 undoubtedly involves the question of "others" and addresses the spiritual pursuit of individual equality, mutual agreement, and communality. Confucianism's theory of practice 工夫 (gongfu), while emphasizing the establishment and success of oneself, also requires the ability to make others established and successful. There are basically three paths for the virtuous subject to reach others: "taking what is near at hand as an analogy " 能近取譬 (neng jin qu pi), the "measure" 度 (duo) of considering other people's emotions on the basis of one's own emotions 將心比心 (jiang xin bi xin), and putting oneself in the place of others 推己及人 (tui ji ji ren). The present study, drawing on the long commentarial tradition, will fully explicate them as gongfu, that is, as concrete processes of moral practice, revealing the three paths of the Dao of due consideration from self to others, and interpreting them in relation to the dimension of the other in Confucian ethical philosophy. All three are unified and highly practical and are effective means of realizing Confucian benevolence 仁 (ren). They do not exist in a sequential ascending relationship. Through diligent moral practice, people can "help others to take their stand" 立人 (liren) and "help others to realize themselves" 達人 (daren) by following any one of the three types of gongfu.
