Photothermal therapy (PTT) is a promising cancer therapy modality with significant advantages such as precise targeting, convenient drug delivery, better efficacy, and minimal adverse effects. Photothermal therapy effectively absorbs the photothermal transducers in the near-infrared region (NIR), which induces the photothermal effect to work. Although PTT has a better role in tumor therapy, it also suffers from low photothermal conversion efficiency, biosafety, and incomplete tumor elimination. Therefore, the use of nanomaterials themselves as photosensitizers, the targeted modification of nanomaterials to improve targeting efficiency, or the combined use of nanomaterials with other therapies can improve the therapeutic effects and reduce side effects. Notably, noble metal nanomaterials have attracted much attention in PTT because they have strong surface plasmon resonance and an effective absorbance light at specific near-infrared wavelengths. Therefore, they can be used as excellent photosensitizers to mediate photothermal conversion and improve its efficiency. This paper provides a comprehensive review of the key role played by noble metal nanomaterials in tumor photothermal therapy. Against the background of climate warming, marine heatwaves (MHWs) and terrestrial drought events have become increasingly frequent in recent decades. However, the combined effects of MHWs and terrestrial drought on CO2 uptake in marginal seas are still unclear. The East China Sea (ECS) experienced an intense and long-lasting MHW accompanied by an extreme terrestrial drought in the Changjiang basin in the summer of 2022. In this study, we employed multi-source satellite remote sensing products to reveal the patterns, magnitude, and potential drivers of CO2 flux changes in the ECS resulting from the compounding MHW and terrestrial drought extremes. The CO2 uptake of the ECS reduced by 17.0% (1.06 Tg C) in the latter half of 2022 and the Changjiang River plume region shifted from a CO2 sink to a source (releasing 0.11 Tg C) in July-September. In the majority of the ECS, the positive sea surface temperature (SST) anomaly during the MHW diminished the solubility of CO2 in seawater, thereby reducing CO2 uptake. Moreover, the reduction in nutrient input associated with terrestrial drought, which is unfavorable to phytoplankton growth, further reduced the capacity of CO2 uptake. Meanwhile, the CO2 sink doubled for the offshore waters of the ECS continental shelf in July-September 2022, indicating the complexity and heterogeneity of the impacts of extreme climatic events in marginal seas. Node localization in two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) space for wireless sensor networks (WSNs) remains a hot research topic. To improve the localization accuracy and applicability, we first propose a quantum annealing bat algorithm (QABA) for node localization in WSNs. QABA incorporates quantum evolution and annealing strategy into the framework of the bat algorithm to improve local and global search capabilities, achieve search balance with the aid of tournament and natural selection, and finally converge to the best optimized value. Additionally, we use trilateral localization and geometric feature principles to design 2D (QABA-2D) and 3D (QABA-3D) node localization algorithms optimized with QABA, respectively. Simulation results show that, compared with other heuristic algorithms, the convergence speed and solution accuracy of QABA are greatly improved, with the highest average error of QABA-2D reduced by 90.35% and the lowest by 17.22%, and the highest average error of QABA-3D reduced by 75.26% and the lowest by 7.79%. • A novel blended algorithm was proposed to remotely observe lake POC across China. • POC concentrations in 450 large lakes were first mapped using OLCI/Sentinel-3 data. • Lake POC concentration across China was low in the west and high in the east. Remote sensing monitoring of particulate organic carbon (POC) concentration is essential for understanding phytoplankton productivity, carbon storage, and water quality in global lakes. Some algorithms have been proposed, but only for regional eutrophic lakes. Based on in-situ data (N = 1269) in 49 lakes across China, we developed a blended POC algorithm by distinguishing Type-I and Type-II waters. Compared to Type-I, Type-II waters had higher reflectance peak around 560 nm (>0.0125 sr−1) and mean POC (4.65 ± 4.11 vs. 2.66 ± 3.37 mg/L). Furthermore, because POC was highly related to algal production (r = 0.85), a three-band index (R 2 = 0.65) and the phytoplankton fluorescence peak height (R 2 = 0.63) were adopted to estimate POC in Type-I and Type-II waters, respectively. The novel algorithm got a mean absolute percent difference (MAPD) of 35.93 % and outperformed three state-of-the-art formulas with MAPD values of 40.56–76.42 %. Then, the novel algorithm was applied to OLCI/Sentinel-3 imagery, and we first obtained a national map of POC in 450 Chinese lakes (> 20 km2), which presented an apparent spatial pattern of "low in the west and high in the east". In brief, water classification should be considered when remotely monitoring lake POC concentration over a large area. Moreover, a process-oriented method is required when calculating water column POC storage from satellite-derived POC concentrations in type-II waters. Sonodynamic therapy (SDT) has attracted significant attention in recent years as it is an innovative approach to tumor treatment. Subsequently, this review explores the diverse range of nanomaterials utilized in SDT applications and highlights their specific contributions to enhancing treatment outcomes. Furthermore, the potential to combine SDT with other therapeutic modalities such as photothermal therapy (PTT) and chemotherapy is discussed. These combined approaches aim to synergistically improve therapeutic efficacy while mitigating side effects. Water scarcity tends to be aggravated by increase in water demand with the trend of socio-economic development. Thus, non-stationary characteristics of water demand should be identified in water resources allocation (WRA) to alleviate the potential influences from water shortages. In this study, a Copula-based interval linear programming model was established for regional WRA. Through combining correlation analysis and an interval linear programming model, this model can: 1) identify interactions between water demand and socio-economic development levels based on Copula functions, 2) explore variations in water shortage with consideration of multiple risk tolerance levels of decision-makers based on Copula sampling, and 3) obtain desired strategies for WRA through an interval linear programming model. Also, Dalian City in China was selected as a case study area to verify the effectiveness of the model for WRA to five water users (i.e., agricultural sector, industrial sector, public service sector, domestic residents, and ecological environment). Considering multiple tolerance levels of decision-makers to water shortage risk, three scenarios (i.e., S1 to S3), indicating 20%, 40%, and 60% of their low, medium, and high tolerance levels, were proposed. The results showed that the correlation between the amount of water demand and indicators of socio-economic development can be described by Clayton and Gaussian Copula functions. The total water supply of Dalian in 2030 would increase by 2.06%–2.65%, compared with the one in 2025. The allocation of water resources across districts was influenced by varied water demand, energy consumption, and risk tolerance levels. Compared with the amount of water allocation in 2025, the contribution of transferred water sources would increase by 6.71% and 7.04% under S1 and S2 in 2030, respectively, and decrease by 14.31% under S3. The 26S proteasome plays a fundamental role in almost all eukaryotic cells, including vascular endothelial cells. However, it remains largely unknown how proteasome functionality is regulated in the vasculature. Endothelial nitric oxide (NO) synthase (eNOS)-derived NO is known to be essential to maintain endothelial homeostasis. The aim of the present study was to establish the connection between endothelial NO and 26S proteasome functionality in vascular endothelial cells. The 26S proteasome reporter protein levels, 26S proteasome activity, and the O-GlcNAcylation of Rpt2, a key subunit of the proteasome regulatory complex, were assayed in 26S proteasome reporter cells, human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC), and mouse aortic tissues isolated from 26S proteasome reporter and eNOS knockout mice. Like the other selective NO donors, NO derived from activated eNOS (by pharmacological and genetic approach) increased O-GlcNAc modification of Rpt2, reduced proteasome chymotrypsin-like activity, and caused 26S proteasome reporter protein accumulation. Conversely, inactivation of eNOS reversed all the effects. SiRNA knockdown of O-GlcNAc transferase (OGT), the key enzyme that catalyzes protein O-GlcNAcylation, abolished NO-induced effects. Consistently, adenoviral overexpression of O-GlcNAcase (OGA), the enzyme catalyzing the removal of the O-GlcNAc group, mimicked the effects of OGT knockdown. Finally, compared to eNOS wild type aortic tissues, 26S proteasome reporter mice lacking eNOS exhibited elevated 26S proteasome functionality in parallel with decreased Rpt2 O-GlcNAcylation, without changing the levels of Rpt2 protein. Abstract: A new photocatalyst, namely single-crystalline Bi5O7NO3 nanofibers, was prepared by a facile hydrothermal method in the presence of Triton X-100 and ammonia. Bi5O7NO3 possessing a crystalline sheet morphology could be dissolved and transformed into nanofibers by controlling the reaction time. Samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction, UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and high resolution transmission electron microscopy. The Bi5O7NO3 nanofiber growth mechanism is discussed in detail. The band gap energy of the as-prepared Bi5O7NO3 photocatalyst was about 2.70–2.90eV. Results of first-principle density functional theory calculations confirmed that Bi5O7NO3 had a narrow band gap. They revealed that the conduction band bottom was predominantly composed of Bi 6s, Bi 6p, N 2p and O 2p orbitals, while the valence band (VB) top primarily consisted of Bi 6p, Bi 6s and O 2p orbitals. The as-obtained Bi5O7NO3 nanofibers showed good photocatalytic activity and stability for the degradation of Rhodamine B (RhB) under visible light irradiation, which may be ascribed to the highly mobile conduction band (CB) and VB charge carriers. Abstract: ZnMoO4 with a rhombus sheet or flower-like structure, α-ZnMoO4 and needle-like ZnMoO4·0.8H2O were successfully synthesized by simple hydrothermal crystallization processes with citric acid. ZnMoO4·0.8H2O was easily synthesized in a shorter reaction time (2h) at a higher reactant concentration. It gradually transformed into ZnMoO4 with a monoclinic wolframite tungstate structure with an increased reaction time, and pure ZnMoO4 was obtained with a longer reaction time (8h). Citric acid (CA) played an important role in controlling the morphology of the as-obtained molybdates. The α-ZnMoO4 and ZnMoO4 were synthesized by heating ZnMoO4·0.8H2O at 130°C for 4h and 8h, respectively, under hydrothermal conditions. With transforming of ZnMoO4·0.8H2O to α-ZnMoO4 and further to ZnMoO4, the needle-like crystals gradually disappeared and were transformed into crystals with rhombus sheet morphology and then further to pentacle or flower-like crystals that can be ascribed to continuous splitting and growing of the rhombus sheets. Dissolved organic carbon (DOC) in lakes serves as a substrate for heterotrophic bacterial growth, a regulator of the global carbon cycle, and a light absorption agent. DOC in eutrophic lakes is greatly influenced by phytoplankton phenology and terrigenous input by rivers. Therefore, it is necessary and significant to dynamically monitor the concentration, storage, and riverine exchange flux of DOC. By using in-situ DOC measurements from 2004 until 2018 (N = 2019), a machine learning algorithm, namely, a multilayer back-propagation neural network (MBPNN) model, was developed in this work to improve the remote sensing estimation of DOC concentrations in eutrophic Lake Taihu. The model yielded a mean estimation error of 15.14% for the testing dataset. The monthly mean DOC concentration significantly increased from 2003 to 2018 (N = 192, p < 0.01). High DOCs were observed in lake bays with high chlorophyll a (Chl-a) levels, and phytoplankton growth explained more than 50% of the monthly DOC variations. Then, given the evenly mixed DOC in the water column on the monthly and annual scales, we further estimated the monthly mean DOC storage in the lake from 2003 until 2018 and DOC fluxes (input and output) due to rivers during 2008–2018. Although the mean net riverine DOC input (50.56 ± 32.22 × 103 t C) was approximately 5.2 times the average DOC storage (9.73 ± 1.23 × 103 t C), phytoplankton growth controlled DOC variations, which indicated that much terrigenous DOC was transformed into other carbon forms after entering Lake Taihu. Sensitive high‐energy photon detection from UV to X‐ray and high‐resolution array imaging are critical for medical diagnosis, space exploration, and scientific research. The key challenges for high‐performance photodetector and imaging arrays are the effective material and device design strategies for the miniaturization and integration of the device. Here, photon‐controlled diodes (i.e., the detector has rectifying characteristics only under light irradiation) are proposed for high‐resolution and anti‐crosstalk array imaging applications without integrating the switching element. Based on ultra‐wide bandgap semiconductor Ga2O3, the sensitive DUV/X‐ray photon‐controlled diodes are realized by the design of high‐resistance Ga2O3 film and high‐barrier contact. The device exhibits remarkable detection performance, including high photo‐responsivity (168 A W−1) and specific detectivity (1.45 × 1015 Jones) under DUV illumination, as well as a high sensitivity (1.23 × 105 µC Gyair−1 cm−2) under X‐ray light. Moreover, the low dark current and excellent rectification characteristics are obtained. Furthermore, its potential for high‐density and anti‐crosstalk array imaging applications is verified. These results not only bring forth new insights in the implementation of high‐performance DUV/X‐ray photodetector, but also pave a feasible way to realize high pixel density detector array through the simplified fabrication process for high‐resolution imaging applications. Ginsenoside Rb1 (GRb1), an active ingredient of traditional Chinese medicine Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer, has displayed various activities such as antioxidative stress, autophagic regulation and apoptotic inhibition. However, the role of GRb1 in natural aging process remains unclear. Aim of the study : In this study, we investigated the anti-aging effect and underlying molecular mechanisms of ginsenoside Rb1 in natural aging process. We treated the natural aging C57BL/6J mice by intragastrical administration of GRb1 (100 mg/kg·BW) every other day for 10 months and investigated the effect of GRb1 on aging symptoms. By RT-qPCR and WB analysis, we examined the expression levels of senescence-associated biomarkers and aging-related pathways, including cell cycle, apoptosis and inflammation in aging process. Further, metabolomics analysis was conducted to investigate the changes of aging-related metabolites after GRb1 treatment. Treatment with GRb1 significantly attenuated the aging-induced physiological changes, including slowed reduction of body weight, suppression of hair loss, decrease of arterial wall thickness and heart weight. We found that GRb1 treatment remarkably reversed the changed expression of p53-p21-Cdk2 axis in heart tissues of aging mice, which was responsible for the cell cycle repression. And the activations of apoptosis-associated factors (Bax and Caspase-3) were also inhibited by GRb1 treatment. Further, based on the serum metabolomics analysis using HPLC-MS/MS analysis, several metabolites were identified as potential biomarkers related to the anti-aging effect of GRb1, including glycerophospholipids, carboxylic acids and fatty acyls. Especially, the change of glycerophospholipid metabolism pathway was found to be the mostly changed. Our studies suggest that GRb1 retards the aging process in mice by regulating cell cycle and apoptotic pathway, which were associated with the alleviation of metabolic disorders. The spatiotemporal variations in suspended sediment concentration (SSC) in the lower reaches of the Yellow River exhibit significant variability and are influenced by reservoir operations. Understanding the spatiotemporal distribution characteristics of SSC in water holds crucial implications for environmental protection and reservoir operation management. Based on daily-scale SSC monitoring data from four hydrological stations in the lower Yellow River, this study established an SSC remote sensing model applicable to Landsat series satellite data. The independent variable of the model, Rrs(NIR)/(Rrs(G) + Rrs(R) + Rrs(SWIR)), demonstrated sensitivity to water bodies with different SSC values. Distinctive spatiotemporal characteristics in sediment transport were observed across the lower Yellow River. Spatially, the SSC values in the Sanmenxia and Xiaolangdi reservoirs were notably lower than those in other river sections, averaging 1008.42 ± 602.83 mg/L and 1177.89 ± 627.95 mg/L, respectively. Over time, the majority of the river sections (96%) exhibited decreasing trends in SSC during 1984–2022, particularly in the downstream Xiaolangdi reservoir, with average SSC values of 4265.58 ± 1101.77 mg/L in the 1980s and 1840.80 ± 2255.15 mg/L in the 2020s. Seasonal variations in SSC were prominent, with higher summer concentrations, averaging 5536.43 ± 2188.77 mg/L (2020s summer) and 814.11 ± 158.27 mg/L (2020s winter). Reductions in SSC during 1984–2022 primarily occurred in summer, weakening its seasonal variability in the lower Yellow River. Water discharge emerged as a critical factor influencing suspended sediment transport, with SSC increasing in high-water-flow months. Following the construction of the Xiaolangdi reservoir, the relationship between SSC and water discharge at different stations underwent notable alterations. This study enhances our understanding of the spatiotemporal dynamics of suspended sediment transport in the lower Yellow River, providing valuable insights for utilizing long-term Landsat series data in the dynamic monitoring of river sediment transport. Tumors are a major public health issue of concern to humans, seriously threatening the safety of people's lives and property. With the increasing demand for early and accurate diagnosis and efficient treatment of tumors, noninvasive optical imaging (including fluorescence imaging and photoacoustic imaging) and tumor synergistic therapies (phototherapy synergistic with chemotherapy, phototherapy synergistic with immunotherapy, etc.) have received increasing attention. In particular, light in the near-infrared second region (NIR-II) has triggered great research interest due to its penetration depth, minimal tissue autofluorescence, and reduced tissue absorption and scattering. Nanomaterials with many advantages, such as high brightness, great photostability, tunable photophysical properties, and excellent biosafety offer unlimited possibilities and are being investigated for NIR-II tumor imaging-guided synergistic oncotherapy. In recent years, many researchers have tried various approaches to investigate nanomaterials, including gold nanomaterials, two-dimensional materials, metal sulfide oxides, polymers, carbon nanomaterials, NIR-II dyes, and other nanomaterials for tumor diagnostic and therapeutic integrated nanoplatform construction. In this paper, the application of multifunctional nanomaterials in tumor NIR-II imaging and collaborative therapy in the past three years is briefly reviewed, and the current research status is summarized and prospected, with a view to contributing to future tumor therapy. Multiferroic tunnel junctions (MFTJs) comprised of magnetic electrodes and a ferroelectric tunnel barrier have been emerging as promising candidates for nonvolatile memory applications. The recently discovered above room-temperature van der Waals (vdW) ferromagnet Fe3GaTe2 and ferroelectric α-In2Se3 provides possibilities for constructing room-temperature vdW MFTJs. In this work, by using first-principles calculations, we investigate the spin-dependent transport in vdW MFTJs with structure of Fe3GaTe2/bilayer α-In2Se3/Fe3GaTe2. We predict a giant tunneling magnetoresistance (TMR) high up to 10 000% by switching the magnetic alignments of Fe3GaTe2 and tunneling electroresistance (TER) exceeding 300% by controlling the ferroelectric configurations of bilayer α-In2Se3 in the proposed MFTJs. Furthermore, by introducing interface asymmetry and inserting monolayer of h-BN on one interface, the TMR and TER ratios of the MFTJs can be substantially enhanced. In consequence, the multi-level resistance states can be achieved by applying magnetic and electric field in asymmetric MFTJs. Abstract Suspended particulate matter (SPM) is generally divided into inorganic (SPIM) and organic (SPOM) parts; they come from different sources, and have different impacts on the optical properties and/or water quality of lake. However, in a specific remote sensing process, they are not retrieved separately. Using in-situ data of 59 lakes along the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River (MLR-YR) in dry season (April) and wet season (August) in 2012, we first studied the absorption properties and sources of different SPM. On this basis, we proposed a workflow for simultaneously estimating SPIM and SPOM from satellite data. Our results are as follows: Bio-optical compositions of SPM in these eutrophic shallow lakes tempo-spatially varied greatly and were dominated by human-induced eutrophication. Phytoplankton contributed 18.42 ± 18.92% of SPIM and 26.22 ± 19.24% of SPOM in April 2012, but 30.4 ± 23.41% of SPIM and 47.03 ± 18.1% of SPOM in August 2012. The trophic state index explained 42.84% of SPOM variation in April 2012, and 54.64% in August 2012. Moreover, there were strong linear relationships between SPIM concentration and non-algal particle absorption coefficient (Pearson's r = 0.73 ; p < 0.01) and between SPOM concentration and phytoplankton absorption coefficient (r = 0.76 ; p < 0.01). Based on these results, SPIM and SPOM concentrations in the lakes along the MLR-YR could be retrieved from OLCI/Sentinel-3A satellite data, respectively. This study has a great significance for real-time monitoring and managing aquatic environment in various eutrophic and/or shallow lakes as a group. Seawater pH is a direct proxy of ocean acidification, and monitoring the global pH distribution and long-term series changes is critical to understanding the changes and responses of the marine ecology and environment under climate change. Owing to the lack of sufficient global-scale pH data and the complex relationship between seawater pH and related environmental variables, generating time-series products of satellite-derived global sea surface pH poses a great challenge. In this study, we solved the problem of the lack of sufficient data for pH algorithm development by using the massive underway sea surface carbon dioxide partial pressure (pCO2) dataset to structure a large data volume of near in situ pH based on carbonate calculation between underway pCO2 and calculated total alkalinity from sea surface salinity and relevant parameters. The remote sensing inversion model of pH was then constructed through this massive pH training dataset and machine learning methods. After several tests of machine learning methods and groups of input parameters, we chose the random forest model with longitude, latitude, sea surface temperature (SST), chlorophyll a (Chla), and Mixed layer depth (MLD) as model inputs with the best performance of correlation coefficient (R2 = 0.96) and root mean squared error (RMSE = 0.008) in the training set and R2 = 0.83 (RMSE = 0.017) in the testing set. The sensitivity analysis of the error variation induced by the uncertainty of SST and Chla (SST ≤ ±0.5 °C and Chla ≤ ±20%; RMSESST ≤ 0.011 and RMSEChla ≤ 0.009) indicated that our sea surface pH model had good robustness. Monthly average global sea surface pH products from 2004 to 2019 with a spatial resolution of 0.25° × 0.25° were produced based on the satellite-derived SST and Chla products and modeled MLD dataset. The pH model and products were validated using another independent station-measured pH dataset from the Global Ocean Data Analysis Project (GLODAP), showing good performance. With the time-series pH products, refined interannual variability and seasonal variability were presented, and trends of pH decline were found globally. Our study provides a new method of directly using remote sensing to invert pH instead of indirect calculation based on the construction of massive underway calculated pH data, which would be made useful by comparing it with satellite-derived pCO2 products to understand the carbonate system change and the ocean ecological environments responding to the global change. Aims Hypoxia induces vascular inflammation by a mechanism not fully understood. Emerging evidence implicates O-GlcNAc transferase (OGT) in inflammation. This study explored the role of OGT in hypoxia-induced vascular endothelial inflammatory response. Methods and results Hypoxia was either induced (1% O2 chamber) or mimicked by exposure to hypoxia-mimetic agents in cultured endothelial cells. Hypoxia increased hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF-1α) and inflammatory response (gene and protein expression of interleukin (IL)-6, IL-8, monocyte chemoattractant protein-1, and E-selectin) but, surprisingly, reduced OGT protein (not mRNA) levels. Hypoxia-mimetic CoCl2 failed to reduce OGT when proteasome inhibitors were present, suggesting proteasome involvement. Indeed, CoCl2 enhanced 26S proteasome functionality evidenced by diminished reporter (UbG76V-GFP) proteins in proteasome reporter cells, likely due to increased chymotrypsin-like activities. Mechanistically, β-TrCP1 mediated OGT degradation, since siRNA ablation of this E3 ubiquitin ligase stabilized OGT. Administration of the oxidative stress inhibitors reversed both proteasome activation and OGT degradation. Furthermore, up-regulation of OGT by stabilization, overexpression, or activation mitigated CoCl2-elicited inflammatory response. These observations were recapitulated in a mouse (C57BL/6J) model mimicking hypoxia, in which lung tissues presented higher levels of HIF-1α, proteasome activity, and inflammatory response, but lower levels of OGT (n = 5/group, hypoxia vs. normoxia, P < 0.05). However, administration of an activator of OGT (glucosamine: 1 mg/g/day, vehicle: saline, ip, 5 days) abolished the up-regulation of proteasome activity and inflammatory response (n = 5/group, the treated vs. untreated hypoxia groups, P < 0.05). Conclusions 26S proteasome-mediated OGT reduction contributed to hypoxia-induced vascular endothelial inflammatory response. Sphingolipids (SPLs) represent a highly diverse and structurally complex lipid class. The discussion of SPL metabolism-related issues is of importance in understanding the neuropathological progression of Alzheimer's disease (AD). AD is characterized by the accumulation of extracellular deposits of the amyloid β-peptide (Aβ) and intraneuronal aggregates of the microtubule-associated protein tau. Critical roles of Aβ oligomer deposited and ganglioside GM1 could be formed as "seed" from insoluble GAβ polymer in initiating the pathogenic process, while tau might also mediate SPLs and their toxicity. The interaction between ceramide and α-Synuclein (α-Syn) accelerates the aggregation of ferroptosis and exacerbates the pathogenesis of AD. For instance, reducing the levels of SPLs can mitigate α-Syn accumulation and inhibit AD progression. Meanwhile, loss of SPLs may inhibit the expression of APOE4 and confer protection against AD, while the loss of APOE4 expression also disrupts SPLs homeostasis. Moreover, the heightened activation of sphingomyelinase promotes the ferroptosis signaling pathway, leading to exacerbated AD symptoms. Ferroptosis plays a vital role in the pathological progression of AD by influencing Aβ, tau, APOE, and α-Syn. Conversely, the development of AD also exacerbates the manifestation of ferroptosis and SPLs. We are compiling the emerging techniques (Derivatization and IM-MS) of sphingolipidomics, to overcome the challenges of AD diagnosis and treatment. In this review, we examined the intricate neuro-mechanistic interactions between SPLs and Aβ, tau, α-Syn, APOE, and ferroptosis, mediating the onset of AD. Furthermore, our findings highlight the potential of targeting SPLs as underexplored avenue for devising innovative therapeutic strategies against AD. Abstract: Pyrochlore-type K2Ta2O6 compound cannot be obtained by a conventional solid-state reaction. Here, we report the synthesis of K2Ta2O6 and tetragonal tungsten bronze (TTB)-type K6Ta10.8O30 nanopowders using a facile and low-cost sol–gel method at low temperature. The as-prepared samples were characterized by XRD, TG-DSC, FESEM, UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectrum and XPS. The compound K2Ta2O6 was formed at 700°C and reached complete crystallization at 750°C, and decomposed into pure K6Ta10.8O30 with the volatilization of K2O at 900°C. The transformation of K2Ta2O6 to K6Ta10.8O30 is reported for the first time. The band gap of the pure K2Ta2O6 and K6Ta10.8O30 samples was found to be about 4.16 and 3.63eV, respectively. The as-prepared K2Ta2O6 sample exhibited an efficient photocatalytic activity for the decomposition of azo dye acid red G (ARG) and 4-nitrophenol (4-NP, a typical persistent organic pollutant) solution under UV irradiation. Abstract: Sr6Bi2O9 powders were synthesized by a sol–gel method using Bi(NO3)3·5H2O and Sr(NO3)2 as the starting materials and were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectrum (UV–vis DRS), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectrum and Raman spectrum. The as-prepared Sr6Bi2O9 powders showed an efficient photocatalytic activity in the decomposition of 4BS dye (a widely used azo dye) and 4-nitrophenol (4-NP, a priority pollutant) under visible light irradiation (λ >400nm). TA-PL analysis reveals that HOthe dominant photooxidant. The radical scavengers experiments indicated that the main active species was O2 − in the photocatalytic degradation of dye under visible irradiation. Abstract: Most of tantalate photocatalysts are mainly synthesized by solid-state (SS) reaction methods and only show photocatalytic activity under UV light irradiation. Ta2O5 as a raw material shows an extremely high chemical stability, limiting its application to a few systems. A novel nanometer Bi3TaO7 photocatalyst was synthesized by a facile and low-cost sol–gel method using Ta2O5 and Bi(NO3)3·5H2O as the Ta and Bi sources, respectively. The as-obtained samples were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), UV–vis diffuse reflection spectroscopy (DRS) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). The band gap energy of the as-obtained nanometer Bi3TaO7 photocatalyst was determined to be about 2.75–2.86eV. The Bi3TaO7 nanopowders show a strong adsorbability and a high visible-light photocatalytic activity for the degradation of 4BS, which can be ascribed to the surface physicochemical properties and structure of the Bi3TaO7 nanometer catalyst. The degradation of 4BS is attributed to the photocatalysis but not to the adsorption of 4BS on the as-prepared catalyst. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Sea surface salinity (SSS) retrieval from satellite-based microwave radiometer is hampered by uncertainties due to atmospheric and surface scattering contributions. This study presents a comprehensive vector radiative transfer model (VRTM) for estimation of brightness temperature (TB) (for SSS retrieval) from L-band radiometry based on a matrix-operator method. It includes an efficient two-scale model (TSM) that combines a geometrical optics (GO) model and a small-perturbation model (SPM) for computing both the small- and large-scale scattering components of the sea surface. Moreover, it considers the influence of rain effects on TB by including the radiation extinction term (scattering and attenuation). The simulation results using the VRTM were validated with those obtained from the RT4 model for flat sea surface conditions and the RTTOV model for rough sea surface conditions. The relative difference in the estimated TB among the models was small (<1%) for low wind speeds (<1 m/s) and increased up to 3% for high wind speeds and observation angles. Simulations on the influence of wind speed on TB with various parameterizations were further examined. Compared with SMOS-MIRAS and Aquarius measurements, the VRTM simulations agreed well with satellite measurements for both vertically and horizontally polarized TBs with biases of less than 2.2 K for observation angles from 20° to 65°. The binned TBs showed even better results, with a standard deviation of less than 1.45 K and an absolute mean error of less than 1.2 K. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The La Niña of 2007/2008 was particularly strong, so was the southward flow of the cold, nutrient-rich Changjiang (Yangtze River) Diluted Water (CDW) when the winter monsoon started to blow in the fall. Here we use shipboard data in 2008 in two transects, one in the southwestern East China Sea and one in the southern Taiwan Strait, to show that as late as April in 2008 the CDW was still clearly identifiable when the winter monsoon had weakened. Waters as cold as 16 °C with a salinity lower than 30 still occupied the southwestern East China Sea. Waters of 17 °C and S < 32 could also be found off the coast of China in the central Taiwan Strait. The concentration of NO3 + NO2 was higher than 18 μmol L−1 at both places, which was as much as 40 times higher than the northward moving South China Sea (SCS) water to the east. As a result, the Changjiang River plume may be a significant source of nutrients, particularly N, to the oligotrophic, N-poor SCS, especially in the La Niña years. Indeed, colder and more turbid CDW was more intense and went farther south in 2008 compared with the normal springs of 2006, 2007 and 2009. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Dissolved organic matter (DOM) plays important roles in the aquatic biogeochemical cycle and the global carbon cycle. However, it is highly spatially and temporally varied due to complex sources from the catchment (allochthonous) and from within the system (autochthonous). Satellite remote sensing provides the ability to monitor DOM and identify the spatio-temporal variations in lakes on a global or regional scale. In this study, field work was conducted in 55 lakes in August 2012 along the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River (MLR-YR), where most lakes were characterized by eutrophication due to intense human activities. The results showed that both colored DOM (CDOM) and total DOM differed significantly by and were linearly related to the human-induced trophic state index (TSI), with R 2 = 0.41 and 0.61, respectively. Autochthonous substances by phytoplankton contributed to 38.5% of CDOM and 35.2% of DOM, and allochthonous terrestrial substance indexed by land cover change and aquaculture contributed to almost half, with 49.7% of CDOM and 49.8% of DOM. In total, human activities explained as much as 81.7% and 87.5% of the variations in CDOM and DOM, respectively. Finally, a flowchart for estimating DOM from satellite-derived TSI was proposed. This study has great significance for synchronously monitoring and managing aquatic environment quality in regional eutrophic lakes around the world. • Riverine COD content showed high values in the cropland-dominated areas. • Three seasonal variation types were identified for station-based riverine COD. • Variations in riverine COD were co-determined by human and natural factors. Rivers connect terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems and export approximately 55.47 % of the net terrestrial carbon fixation. However, due to unavailable high-frequency monitoring data, litter is known about diurnal variation in riverine carbon transport on a national scale. Based on daily measurements between March 2021 and February 2022 at 1491 stations across China, this study clarified the spatiotemporal variations in riverine organic matter indicated by chemical oxygen demand (COD). Spatially, COD content showed a spatial pattern with high values in the northwest (p < 0.05), and COD flux was determined by water discharge (84.01 %). Human activities explained 73.20 % of the spatial variations in riverine COD content; in particular, agricultural planting significantly elevated riverine COD (r = 0.73, p < 0.01). Seasonally, 95.53 % of stations showed significant seasonal variations in COD contents (p < 0.05); 69.72 % (25.81 %) were identified as Type II (III) typically had the maximum (minimum) COD in summer (autumn). Moreover, except for human activities (41.08 ± 22.94 %), natural factors also contributed 47.41 ± 24.04 % to the seasonal variations. In summer, high temperatures increased COD by promoting algal proliferation at Type II stations; however, heavy precipitation diluted COD contents at Type III stations. In these cases, seasonal measurements were essential for estimating riverine organic matter transport, especially the values measured in spring and winter. This study has significant implications for managing the aquatic environment, estimating riverine organic matter transport, and balancing the global carbon budget. Abstract Coccolithophorids are key player in the marine biological pump and marine carbon cycle, as their production and community-structure are crucial for export and sequestration of carbon from the atmosphere to the deep sea with important implications to climatic trends. Variations in the species composition of coccolithophore communities largely reflect environmental changes and are therefore fundamental for palaeoceanographic reconstructions. The South China Sea (SCS) is an ideal area to study the response of coccolithophores to environmental change because of the remarkable seasonal and interannual variations of the monsoonal climate and the hydrography. However, to date only limited studies on the temporal changes of coccolithophores in the modern SCS have been reported. In the present work, coccolithophores in the northern SCS were investigated using time-series sediment traps during 2009–2010 and 2011–2012. Extinct coccoliths which had their last occurrence in the Miocene (e.g. Triquetrorhabdulus longus , Reticulofenestra floridanus), Pliocene (e.g. Reticulofenestra pseudoumbilica , Discoaster tamilis), and Pleistocene (e.g. Pseudoemiliania locunosa , Discoaster variabilis) were a frequent component of the coccoliths throughout all the seasons and provided, for the first time, a strong micropaleontological evidence for lateral advective transport in the deep SCS. The source of the fossil coccoliths most likely were the reworked Pleistocene sands which cover the outer shelf and upper slope to the west and south of the Dongsha Islands between 20 m and 600 m water depth. These sediments contain limestone fragments with foraminiferal assemblages of Miocene to Pliocene age, and, to the north and south of the islands, Miocene strata are exposed on the sea floor. Mesoscale eddies, both cyclonic and anticyclonic, were probably the main agent for resuspending and transporting the coccoliths as they propagated westwards along-slope from the Dongsha area to the mooring site. Extant coccolithophore were composed of 31 taxa with Florisphaera profunda , Gephyrocapsa oceanica, and Emiliania huxleyi contributing 91.4% and 83.8% of the annual coccolithophore export flux in 2009–2010 and 2011–2012, respectively; F. profunda was the predominant species. Enhanced fluxes of extant coccoliths occurred in the summer of 2009/2010, spring 2010, autumn 2011 and winter 2011/2012, but varied in phase with the extinct species. Therefore, lateral advection of extant taxa may have also taken place but the extent to which this may have masked primary signals from in-situ coccolithophore production remains open. The low fluxes of coccoliths in the winter of 2009/2010 in association with relatively reduced wind strength, higher SST and a shallower mixed layer might compared to those of 2011/2012 have been driven by the weak El Niño event, which affected the northern SCS during that season.
