Bakanae disease, caused by Fusarium fujikuroi, is a major threat to rice production globally, especially in Egypt. No rice variety is completely resistant to bakanae disease. Here, we assessed resistance in 11 Egyptian rice genotypes, identified a novel F. fujikuroi strain using molecular techniques, and developed molecular markers for resistance breeding. ISSR and InDel PCR were used to determine the genetic distance between the genotypes and develop molecular markers for bakanae disease resistance. qRT-PCR was used to assess the gene expression of four resistance candidate genes. Sakha 103 and Sakha 104 were the most tolerant genotypes, while Sakha 101 and Sakha 108 were the most susceptible to bakanae disease. ISSR and InDel PCR showed high polymorphism values among genotypes and distinctive bands in the most tolerant varieties. Gene expression analysis revealed up-regulation of LOC_Os01g41770, LOC_Os01g41780, and LOC_Os01g41790, which encode leucine-rich repeat receptor-like proteins, in susceptible varieties. Additionally, LOC_Os01g41800, encoding a putative cytochrome P450 monooxygenase, was up regulated in tolerant genotypes after inoculation. This study provides tools for screening rice genotypes for bakanae disease resistance and improving resistance breeding programs. The identified molecular markers and candidate genes could potentially be used in future breeding programs to develop new, Bakanae-resistant rice varieties, which is essential for sustainable rice production. The biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) could play a significant role in the development of commercial antimicrobials. Herein, the biosynthesis of Ag NPs was studied using the edible mushroom Pleurotus floridanus, and following its formation, spectrophotometry was used to detect the best mushroom content, pH, temperature, and silver concentration. After that, the morphology was described via transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and nanoscale-size particles were found ranging from 11 to 13 nm. The best conditions of Ag content and pH were found at 1.0 mM and 11.0, respectively. In addition, the best mushroom extract concentration was found at 30 g/L. According to XRD analysis, the crystal structure of the formed amorphous Ag NPs is cubic with a space group of fm-3m and a space group number of 225. After that, the function groups at the surface of the prepared Ag NPs were studied via FTIR analysis, which indicated the presence of C=O, C-H, and O-H groups. These groups could indicate the presence of mushroom traces in the Ag NPs, which was confirmed via the amorphous characteristics of Ag NPs from the XRD analysis. The prepared Ag NPs have a high impact against different microorganisms, which could be attributed to the ability of Ag NPs to penetrate the cell bacterial wall. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, eighteen compressional P-wave seismic refraction profiles survey was conducted on the western side of the Gulf of Suez, Egypt, to map bedrock topography, which is vital information in foundation pole placement and design for large factory construction. The configuration of the seismic survey consists of 10 metres geophone intervals (12 and 24 channels) with a total survey length of 3150 metres survey length. The seismic compressional wave velocity distribution reveals three layers ranging from (400 to 1100 m/s), (1200 to 2000 m/s), and (2200 to 3500 m/s). According to the data, the first low-velocity layer represents unconsolidated Wadi sediments. The second layer, on the other hand, comprises consolidated Wadi sediments, while the third layer comprises fractured to intact sandstone bedrock. The thickness of the first layer is believed to be between 0.5 and 10 m, while the thickness of the second layer is between 8.5 and 25 m. Pseudo-3D model of velocity distribution was constructed, revealing the presence of several low-velocity zones at a depth ranging from 15 to 32 m. Then, the topography of the non-rippable sandstone rock mass was mapped utilizing 3-D model. Finally, the correlation between seismic refraction tomography (SRT) results and nearby well logging dataset drilled by the Egyptian Geological Survey and Mining Authority (EGSMA) matched quite well. It may be inferred that, up to a depth of 15 to 32 metres, there is a high-velocity rock layer suitable for constructing deep foundations for multiple levels of the mega factory. Soybean (Glycine max) is an economically important crop which is very susceptible to salt stress. Tolerance to Na2SO4 stress was evaluated in soybean plants overexpressing or suppressing the phytoglobin GmPgb1. Salt stress depressed several gas exchange parameters, including the photosynthetic rate, caused leaf damage, and reduced the water content and dry weights. Lower expression of respiratory burst oxidase homologs (RBOHB and D), as well as enhanced antioxidant activity, resulting from GmPgb1 overexpression, limited ROS-induced damage in salt-stressed leaf tissue. The leaves also exhibited higher activities of the H2O2-quenching enzymes, catalase (CAT) and ascorbate peroxidase (APX), as well as enhanced levels of ascorbic acid. Relative to WT and GmPgb1-suppressing plants, overexpression of GmPgb1 attenuated the accumulation of foliar Na+ and exhibited a lower Na+/K+ ratio. These changes were attributed to the induction of the Na+ efflux transporter SALT OVERLY SENSITIVE 1 (SOS1) limiting Na+ intake and transport and the inward rectifying K+ channel POTASSIUM TRANSPORTER 1 (AKT1) required for the maintenance of the Na+/K+ balance. The absolute necessity to fight some class of tumor is perceived as serious health concerns, so the discovery and development of effective anticancer agents are urgently needed. (E)‐4‐((2‐hydroxyphenyl)diazenyl)‐3‐phenyl‐1H‐pyrazol‐5(4H)‐one, HL, and its Ni(II), Pd(II) and Pt(II) complexes were synthesized and the biological activity was evaluated for antitumor, antioxidant and antimicrobial activity as well as DNA cleavage. Their structures were assigned depending on the elemental analysis, conductivity, magnetic moment, spectral measurements (IR, 1HNMR, mass and UV–Vis) and thermal analysis. 3D molecular modeling using DFT method confirmed that the geometrical structures agree well with the suggested experimental ones. The antitumor activity was evaluated against four different cell lines using MTT assay. The ligand HL showed a potent cytotoxic activity compared to 5‐fluorouracil as a reference drug. For metal complexes, the order of activity was: Pd(II) > Ni(II) > Pt(II). A remarkable antioxidant activity for the ligand HL was recorded. It was higher than that of the metal complexes. Results of antimicrobial experiments revealed that all compounds were moderate to highly active against selected bacterial strains but inactive as antifungal except Pd(II) which showed a moderate antifungal activity. Gel electrophoresis showed insignificant nucleases activity for the ligand or its metal complexes even in the presence of H2O2 providing protection of DNA from damage. The antitumor activity of our compounds may be not due to DNA cleavage but may be referred to a mechanism similar to that of 5‐fluorouracil which interfere with DNA replication. Ethyl-2-((8-cyano-3,5,9a-trimethyl-1-(4-oxo-4,5-dihydrothiazol-2-yl)-4-phenyl-3a,4,9,9a-tetrahydro-1 H -pyrazolo[3,4- g ]isoquinolin-7-yl)thio)acetate ( 5 ) was synthesized, and its structure was characterized by IR, MS, and NMR ( 1 H and 13 C) and verified by a single-crystal X-ray structure determination. Compound 5 adopts a "pincer" conformation. In the crystal, the hydrogen bonds of -H···O, C-H···O, and O-H···S form thick layers of molecules that are parallel to (101). The layers are linked by C-H···π(ring) interactions. The Hirshfeld surface analysis shows that intermolecular hydrogen bonding plays a more important role than both intramolecular hydrogen bonding and π···π stacking in the crystal. The intramolecular noncovalent interactions in 5 were studied by QTAIM, NCI, and DFT-NBO calculations. Ramadan fasting is obligatory for Muslim healthy adults. However, there are many exemptions from fasting; including patients, whose diseases will be aggravated by fasting. Muslim patients with different liver diseases are frequently seen in the clinics discussing their intent to fast this month with their treating physicians. To answer our patients' inquiries about the expected benefits and/or risks of fasting and delivering them the best care, we carried out this review and we draw advices and recommendations based on the available evidence. A web-based search, combining multiple keywords representing different liver diseases with Ramadan fasting had been carried out. To answer the research question: Do adult Muslim patients with different liver diseases who fast the month of Ramadan have had a deleterious effect on their health in comparison to those who did not fast? Relevant publications were retrieved. No randomized controlled trials were focusing on Ramadan fasting and liver diseases in the filtered databases, eg Cochrane library. Consequently, non-filtered databases, eg PubMed, Google Scholar and Egyptian Knowledge Bank searched and full-text high-quality research articles were carefully analysed to draw recommendations. Other relevant publications with low quality of evidence like case studies and short communications were also reviewed to address practice advices. Although Ramadan fasting was found beneficial for patients with NAFLD, it was found deleterious to patients with Child B and C cirrhosis and patients with peptic ulcer. Aim and Objective: This work presents the synthetic capability and the exploitation of 1,3-diphenyl- 1H-pyrazole-4-carboxladehyde 1 and 5-diphenyl pyrazolyl-2-pyrazoline analogue 8 to serve as excellent precursors for the synthesis of substituted indol-2,3-dione, trizolo[3,4-a]benzazoles, thiazolo[2,3- a]benzimidazole-3-one, substituted 2-pyrazoline and pyrazole-substituted-pyrazolines using various reagents., Materials and Methods: Using chemicals from Aldrich, Fluka, or Merck, and pure solvents, we apply the synthetic procedures for the synthesis of novel heterocycles. The melting points of these compounds were determined using APP. Digital ST 15 melting point apparatus. SP3-100 spectrophotometer recorded FT-IR spectra (KBr) (cm-1). NMR spectra (δ, ppm) were recorded on 400 MHz AVANCE-III High-Performance FT-NMR Spectrometer BRUCKER (Switzerland) and some 1H NMR spectra were recorded on Varian EM-360L NMR Spectrophotometer (90 MHz) (USA) in CDCl3 or DMSO-d6 as a solvent. Elemental analyses were carried out at a Vario EL C, H, N, and S Analyzer. Bromine was determined using direct titration method after carius combustion., Results: The structures of the compounds were confirmed by IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and elemental analyses., Conclusion: 1,3-Diphenyl-1H-pyrazole-4-carboxladehyde 1 and 2-pyrazoline derivative 9 confirmed their importance in the synthetic organic chemistry. Depending on the formyl group of aldehyde 1 and active methylene of pyrazoline 8, we synthesized new series of heterocycles; indol-2,3-dione, trizolo[3,4-a]benzazole, thiazolo[2,3-a]benzimidazole-3-one and pyrazolyl-pyrazoline derivatives expecting their pharmacological applications. Aim and Objective: A series of new 2-pyrazoline analogues were synthesized. The structures of the synthesized compounds were elucidated by the analytical and spectroscopic data. Some selected compounds were screened for the anti-inflammatory activity by using animal model of carrageenan-induced paw edema in mice. Additionally, the analgesic and acute toxicity of these compounds were evaluated and exhibited reasonable results. The anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of these compounds were established by measuring the contents of malondialdehyde (MDA), reduced glutathione (GSH), nitric oxide (NO), and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) in the edema paw tissue., Materials and Methods: All chemicals and reagents used in current study were of analytical grade. Melting points were determined using APP. Digital ST 15 melting point apparatus and are uncorrected. FT-IR spectra were recorded on a Pye-Unicam SP3-100 spectrophotometer in KBr pellet. All 1H and 13C NMR spectra were recorded on AVANCE-III (400 MHz) High Performance FT-NMR Spectrometer Brucker (Switzerland) and some 1H NMR spectra were recorded on Varian EM-360L NMR Spectrophotometer (60 MHz) (USA) in CDCl3 or DMSO-d6 as solvent. Chemical shifts are reported in δ units and the coupling constants (J) are reported in hertz. C, H, N and S analyses were performed with a Vario EL C, H, N, S Analyzer. Carrageenan (product number C1013) was obtained from Sigma-Aldrich (USA)., Results: The structures of the compounds were confirmed by IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and elemental analyses. The results of pharmacological activity revealed that compounds 5, 6, 7, and 15 could be recognized as potential multi-potent anti-inflammatory., Conclusion: A simple and suitable method for the synthesis of new pharmacophore was reported. We have designed nineteen heterocycles related to pyrazoline ring, and evaluated eleven of them for their antiinflammatory, analgesic and acute toxicity activities. Compounds 5, 6, 7, and 15 proved to be the interesting compounds, they have high anti-inflammatory activity.
