A growing body of research on reframing effects has shown a robust negativity bias among U.S. participants: In many circumstances, people's attitudes change less when framing switches from negative to positive than when it switches from positive to negative. Here, we test the generalizability of this effect beyond a narrow U.S. context, exploring whether similar results would emerge with Arab university students holding a variety of nationalities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Participants considered a cognitive training regimen scenario that was first presented in negative or positive terms, then reframed in the opposing way. They reported their attitudes toward the cognitive regimen after the initial frame, and again after reframing, then completed a trend reversal task. Suggesting that effects extend beyond narrow U.S. samples, Arab university students in the UAE showed similar single-shot and sequential framing effects as multiple samples of U.S. American participants, in spite of the fact that they showed different patterns of cognitive thought related to trend reversal. By advancing emerging priorities in social-cognitive research and following best practices in replications and cross-cultural research, this work helps better calibrate the size and generalizability of negativity bias in sequential framing while increasing representation in social-cognitive research.

Background and Aim: Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) is a highly contagious viral disease that poses significant economic threats to livestock globally. This study aimed to confirm the presence of FMD virus (FMDV) in Egyptian cattle and identify the predominant serotypes contributing to outbreaks in Sharkia and Dakahlia provinces in 2022. Materials and Methods: A total of 65 cattle showing acute FMD symptoms were sampled. Desquamated epithelial tissues and oral secretions were analyzed using reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction with universal and serotypespecific primers. Seven representative samples underwent sequencing for phylogenetic and genetic variability analysis. Results: All sampled animals tested positive for FMDV. Serotype A accounted for 72.3% of cases, while 27.7% were serotype O. Sequence analysis identified FMDV serotype A (African topotype, genotype IV) and serotype O (East Africa-3 topotype) as the outbreak-causing strains. The identified strains exhibited significant genetic divergence from the vaccine strains used in Egypt, with notable amino acid substitutions in the VP1 protein's G-H loop. These mutations raise concerns about the efficacy of existing vaccines against current field strains. Conclusion: The study highlights the ongoing threat of FMD in Egypt, particularly among smallholder cattle farmers. The genetic divergence between circulating FMDV and vaccine strains underscores the need to continuously monitor and update vaccine formulations to enhance disease control efforts. Background: Infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR) is a global contagious respiratory disease of ruminants caused by Bovine Herpes virus-1 (BoHV-1). It causes substantial financial losses in the dairy industry worldwide and is considered one of the most important causative agents of abortion and reproductive problems in dairy cattle. Aim: This study aimed to estimate the seroprevalence of IBR and the related risk factors in the dairy population in Gharbia governorate, Egypt. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted to investigate the seroprevalence and associated risk factors of IBR in bovine dairy herds in Qutur district, Gharbia governorate, Egypt from March 2023 to February 2024. A total of 12 smallholder farms and six commercial dairy farms that did not use vaccination protocol against BoHV-1 were randomly selected. Serum samples (n = 400) were collected from 360 cattle and 40 Italian buffaloes and were subjected to evaluation of the serological status of BoHV-1 using indirect ELISA. A multivariate logistic regression model was implemented to evaluate the strength of the risk factors associated with the infection. Results: The overall seroprevalence of IBR was 22.5% (95% CI: 18.5%-26.9%). The prevalence of IBR in animals reared under traditional and commercial systems was 28.04% and 21.06%, respectively. The multivariate logistic regression revealed that the risk of infection with IBR in winter months was significantly higher than in autumn [OR = 5.9, CI 95%: 2.22-16.16]. The seroprevalence of IBR was higher in weaned and yearling calves than in adult cattle (p-value = 0.000). The risk of exposure to IBR infection was higher in free stall houses than in tie stall houses [OR = 3.7, CI 95%: 1.11-12.35]. The risk of seropositivity to IBR was significantly higher in animals with a history of recent respiratory manifestation than those without a history of recent respiratory problems (p-value = 0.000). Conclusion: This research study revealed that IBR is prevalent among dairy cattle reared under both production systems in the Gharbia governorate. Background: Bovine respiratory disease (BRD) is a complex illness that impacts the respiratory system of domestic cattle, resulting in significant financial losses for the agriculture industry. Inactivated or modified live (MLV) pathogen vaccines are often used as a management tool to prevent and control BRD effectively. Aim: The purpose of this study is to assess the cell-mediated immune response (CMI) induced by two commercially available polyvalent vaccines, namely the MLV (cattle master gold FP) and the inactivated (CATTLEWIN-5K) vaccine. Methods: A total of 20 seronegative heifers against 4 BRD viruses, bovine alphaherpisvirus-1 (BoAHV-1), bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV BVDV-1: Pesti virus A; BVDV-2: Pesti virus B), bovine respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV) and bovine parainfluenza virus-3 (BPIV3) were chosen for this study. The heifers were divided into three groups. The first group (n = 6) received no vaccination and was kept as a control. The second and third groups (seven heifers each) were vaccinated twice with either an MLV or inactivated vaccine. The gene expression level of interleukin-6 (IL-6) and interferon-gamma (INF-γ) was measured using real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction on the 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th, and 60th days post-vaccination. The results were compared with the control group to study the effectiveness of the vaccines. Results: There was an upregulation in the expression level of IL-6 and INF-γ in both MLV and inactivated vaccinated groups. The level of IL-6 mRNA expression was statistically increased from the 14th and 28th days post-vaccination in MLV and inactivated vaccine groups, respectively. The expression level of INF-γ increased significantly from the 2nd and 4th weeks post-vaccination in the MLV and inactivated vaccine groups, respectively. The mean expression level of IL-6 and INF-γ mRNAs was significantly higher in the MLV vaccine group than in the inactivated vaccine group at each examination time. Conclusion: Both investigated vaccines are efficient in stimulating CMI, particularly with the MLV vaccine showing a higher preponderance in IL-6 and INF-γ. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Bovine babesiosis represents a serious challenge for animal health, herd production, and profitability. Understanding the epidemiology and risk factors associated with babesiosis is critical to reduce their negative impacts. Aim: Investigation of the seroprevalence and risk factors associated with Babesia bigemina (B. bigemina) and Babesia bovis (B. bovis) in five districts in Sharkia governorate using ELISA. Methods: Across-sectional research was conducted to determine the seropositivity of babesiosis by collecting a total of 352 blood samples from 250 cattle and 102 buffaloes. A multivariate logistic regression model was implemented to evaluate the strength of the risk factors associated with both Babesia species infection. Results: The seroprevalence of B. bigemina and B. bovis was 42.6% and 17.0 %, respectively. The prevalence of babesiosis in cattle was found to be 48.8% for B. bigemina and 16.8% for B. bovis. Inclusive, in buffaloes, the prevalence was 27.5% for B. bigemina and 17.6% for B. bovis. Adult animals were more vulnerable to infection with babesia than young animals by 3-5 times, respectively. Males were more susceptible to B. bigemina and B. bovis than females by 3.7 and 3.5 times. Similarly, the odds of infection in infested animals with ticks were 2-4 times higher than in animals without ticks. Conclusion: The obtained results revealed that age, sex of the animal, and tick infestation were major risk factors for the seropositivity of both Babesia species. Inclusive, there was no evidence to support the premise that seroprevalence of babesiosis is correlated with the season and species. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
