This study examined the effects of different wet-aging times on the physicochemical characteristics and microbial profile of longissimus lumborum (LL) and biceps femoris (BF) muscles from Korean native black goat (KNBG) meat. The water holding capacity (WHC), pH, cooking loss, shear force, meat color, free amino acid, total bacteria, and coliform count of KNGB meat were analyzed at 0, 5, 10, and 15 days of wet-aging at 4°C under vacuum packaging. The results showed that different wet-aging times led to significant pH variations between the muscles throughout the aging period. The wet-aging time did not affect the WHC and cooking loss in meat from the LL muscle. In the BF muscle, however, meat wet-aged for five days had a significantly higher WHC and less cooking loss than meat aged for 0, 10, and 15 days. The meat from the LL muscle wet-aged for five days produced tenderer meat (low shear force value) than the unaged meat (p < 0.05). Moreover, the color was similar in the LL muscle regardless of the number of aging days. In the BF muscle, the redness (a*) was higher in the meat wet-aged for 15 days compared to that aged for 0, 5, and 10 days (p < 0.05). Regardless of the muscles, an increase in wet-aging time led to an increase in the total free amino acids contents in both muscles (p < 0.05). On the other hand, the tasty/bitter amino acid ratio was significantly higher for five days of wet-aged meat than 10 and 15 days of aging from the BF muscle. In addition, regardless of the muscles, the total bacteria and coliform counts were significantly lower for five days of wet-aged meat than 10 and 15 days of aging (p < 0.05). Therefore, chevon wet-aged for five days is an optimal aging period under vacuum packaging that fortifies meat quality with a minimal microbial negative defect.

This study investigated the dietary effect of total mixed ration (TMR) based on high roughage content on the growth performance, carcass characteristics, and meat quality of Hanwoo steers. Twenty-four Hanwoo steers (average body weight, 195.3±4.7 kg; age, 8.5 mon) were randomly allocated to three experimental groups according to forage and concentrate ratio (DM basis): 25:75 (control), 50:50 (T50), and 70:30 (T70). Productivity in the fattening period and final body weight were significantly higher in the control. Average daily gain and feed conversion ratio were the same among treatments. Serum parameters, cholesterol, blood urea nitrogen, and total protein were higher in the control. Carcass weight was comparable in the control and T50 but feeding more roughage was significantly correlated with a higher intramuscular fat. Shear strength and drip loss were higher while n-6/n-3 was lower in T70 compared to the other groups. However, meat color was not significantly different among treatments. In terms of free amino acid contents, glutamic acid and glycine were higher in the control than T50 and T70. Overall, feeding Hanwoo steers with high forage content TMR had the lowest n-6/n-3 ratio of fatty acid content but highest intramuscular fat, shear strength, and drip loss. High forage content TMR is the best feed for Hanwoo steers that gives more benefits for human health and consumption but also provides the best meat grade and quality, which is important in the beef market in Korea.

Background Conventional therapeutic approaches for tumor angiogenesis, which are primarily focused on the inhibition of active angiogenesis to starve cancerous cells, target the vascular endothelial growth factor signaling pathway. This aggravates hypoxia within the tumor core and ultimately leads to increased tumor proliferation and metastasis. To overcome this limitation, we developed nanoparticles with antiseptic activity that target tumor vascular abnormalities. Methods Ferritin-based protein C nanoparticles (PCNs), known as TFG and TFMG, were generated and tested in Lewis lung carcinoma (LLC) allograft and MMTV-PyMT spontaneous breast cancer models. Immunohistochemical analysis was performed on tumor samples to evaluate the tumor vasculature. Western blot and permeability assays were used to explore the role and mechanism of the antitumor effects of PCNs in vivo. For knocking down proteins of interest, endothelial cells were transfected with siRNAs. Statistical analysis was performed using one-way ANOVA followed by post hoc Dunnett’s multiple comparison test. Results PCNs significantly inhibited hypoxia and increased pericyte coverage, leading to the inhibition of tumor growth and metastasis, while increasing survival in LLC allograft and MMTV-PyMT spontaneous breast cancer models. The coadministration of cisplatin with PCNs induced a synergistic suppression of tumor growth by improving drug delivery as evidenced by increased blood prefusion and decreased vascular permeability. Moreover, PCNs altered the immune cell profiles within the tumor by increasing cytotoxic T cells and M1-like macrophages with antitumor activity. PCNs induced PAR-1/PAR-3 heterodimerization through EPCR occupation and PAR-1 activation, which resulted in Gα13-RhoA-mediated-Tie2 activation and stabilized vascular tight junctions via the Akt-FoxO3a signaling pathway. Conclusions Cancer treatment targeting the tumor vasculature by inducing antitumor immune responses and enhancing the delivery of a chemotherapeutic agent with PCNs resulted in tumor regression and may provide an effective therapeutic strategy.

The supplementation effects of sea tangle powders were determined for the meat quality in Korean native black goats. A total 90 castrated male black goats at 3-month age were divided into 3 dietary treatment groups: control (basal diet + mineral block), T1 (0.3% sea tangle feeding with the basal diet), T2 (0.9% sea tangle feeding with the basal diet). At 9-months feeding, 10 goats per treatment group were slaughtered, and the longissimus dorsi muscle samples were vacuum-packed, and subsequently analyzed for physicochemical evaluations. Analysis revealed decrease in the shear force and TBARS values of meat in the sea tangle dietary groups (p < 0.05). The T2 group exhibited increased levels of unsaturated fatty acids such as C16:1, C18:1, C18:2, and C20:4 (p < 0.05). The content of free amino acids with desirable taste such as aspartic acid, glutamic acid, glycine, histidine, and serine were higher in T2, whereas alanine content was higher in both sea tangle dietary groups, as compared to control (p < 0.05). These data indicate that feeding dietary sea tangle as an alternative mineral source results in an improvement in the physicochemical profiles of goat meat.

The noninvasive early detection of biomarkers for Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is essential for the development of specific treatment strategies. This paper proposes an advanced method for fabricating highly ordered and flexible nanopillar-based electrochemical biosensors by the combination of soft/photolithography and metal evaporation. The nanopillar array (NPA) exhibits high surface area containing 1500 nm height and 500 nm diameter with 3:1 ratio. In regard with physical properties of polyurethane (PU) substrate, the developed NPA is sustainable and durable to external pressure such as bending and twisting. To manipulate the NPA surface to biocompatible, the gold was uniformly deposited on the PU substrate. The thiol chemistry which is stably modified on the gold surface as a form of self-assembled monolayer was employed for fabricating the NPA as a biocompatible chip by covalently immobilize the antibodies. The proposed nanopillar-based immunoelectrochemical biosensor exhibited good and stable electrochemical performance in β-amyloid (Aβ) detection. Moreover, we successfully confirmed the performance of the as-developed sensor using the artificial injection of Aβ in human tear, with sensitivity of 0.14 ng/mL and high reproducibility (as a standard deviation below 10%). Our findings show that the developed nanopillar-based sensor exhibits reliable electrochemical characteristics and prove its potential for application as a biosensor platform for testing at the point of care.

Metachronous carcinoma at the colostomy site is very rare after abdominoperineal resection. A 53-year-old male patient underwent an abdominoperineal resection 6 years earlier for rectal cancer developed metachronous carcinoma at the site of stoma. A portion of the colon, including the stoma and the surrounding skin, was resected and a new stoma was created in the transverse colon. Although the occurrence of carcinoma at the stoma site is a rare condition, careful observation for the stoma and colonoscopy for surveillance are necessary.

Purpose: This study was designed to investigate the effect of smart glasses on near phoria by comparison of the changes of near phoira before and after wearing smart glasses. Methods: Fifty five male and female students in DongKang College were participated in the study. All prticipants showed normal binocular vision, corrected vision of 1.0 or above, monocular vision of 0.9 or above, and no systemic disease and eye disease. Phoria test was performed under the semi-dark room of approximately 80 Lux, illuminating the maddox rod on the right eye of an examinee, and illuminating penlight at 40cm on the left eye. First, an examinee was asked if they can see a point light source and a longitudinal light. When they mentioned the two lights were matchedthe result was recorded. After moving the point light source and the longitudinal light away, we recorded the figures when the point light source and longitudinal light matched again. Results: Of 55 examinees, it was appeared that 15 people(27.27%) were orthophoria, 35 people(63.64%) were exophoria, 3 people(5.45%) were esophoria and 2 people(3.64%) were vertical phoria. Fifteen of them with orthophoria appeared esophoria of +2.80±1.30△ after wearing smart glasses(p 0.05). Vertical phoria was increased from 0.75±0.35△ to +2.50±0.70△, showing no significant difference(p>0.05). Conclusions: It would be considered that wearing smart glasses showing augmented reality contribute to esophoria and vertical phoria to those withorthophoria as well as those with esophoria.

Many studies have reported the frequency and distribution of haplogroups among various cattle breeds for verification of their origins and genetic diversity. In this study, 318 complete sequences of the mtDNA control region from four Korean cattle breeds were used for haplogroup classification. 71 polymorphic sites and 66 haplotypes were found in these sequences. Consistent with the genetic patterns in previous reports, four haplogroups (T1, T2, T3, and T4) were identified in Korean cattle breeds. In addition, T1 a, T3a, and T3b sub-haplogroups were classified. In the phylogenetic tree, each haplogroup formed an independent cluster. The frequencies of T3, T4, T1 (containing T1a), and T2 were 66%, 16%, 10%, and 8%, respectively. Especially, the T1 haplogroup contained only one haplotype and a sample. All four haplogroups were found in Chikso, Jeju black and Hanwoo. However, only the T3 and T4 haplogroups appeared in Heugu, and most Chikso populations showed a partial of four haplogroups. These results will be useful for stable conservation and efficient management of Korean cattle breeds.

In line with growing interest in obesity management, there has been an increase in the amount of research focused on highly sensitive analysis systems for a small number of biomarers. In this paper, we introduce the highly ordered nanopillar electrode, featuring a high aspect ratio surface area that enables enhanced electron transfer. For fabrication of the flexible electrode, gold was evaporated by electronic beam lithography on polyurethane (PU), which has high flexibility. The fabricated nanopillar is 500 nm in diameter and 1500 nm in height. Based on the highly ordered nanostructure electrode, insulin was selected as a biomarker to monitor the insulin resistance associated with obesity. To effectively analyze the insulin, the self-assembled monolayer chemical was used to introduce the enzyme catalysis-based electrochemical immunoassay, leading to the analysis of the insulin concentration range from 0.1 to 1.0 ng/mL in the real sample. The square wave voltammetry principle was used to measure HRP-based electrochemical signal both electrochemically and quantitatively. Based on the nanostructural properties of significant electrochemical behavior, we successfully analyzed insulin in the plasma sample with high sensitivity (LOD of 0.1 ng/mL) and with high reproducibility (10%). The obtained sensitivity of nanopillar electrode is approximately 10 times (1020%) greater than that of commercial electrode. The results demonstrated that the nanopillar electrode is suitable for precise and sensitive analysis of low-level biomolecules in medical and commercial fields.

Mature microRNAs (miRNAs) are 21 to 23 nucleotide noncoding RNA molecules that can downregulate multiple gene expression by mRNA degradation or translational repression. miRNAs are considered to play important roles in cell proliferation, apoptosis, and differentiation during mammalian development. The Runt-related transcription factor 3 (RUNX3) expression and activity are frequently downregulated by various mechanisms in gastric cancer. We have reported that RUNX3 inactivation is crucial for early tumorigenesis. In this study, we investigated the role of miRNAs targeting RUNX3 in early tumorigenesis. miR-130a and miR-495 upregulated under hypoxic conditions that bind to the RUNX3 3'-untranslated region (3'-UTR) were identified in gastric cancer cells by using microarray analysis and bioinformatics programs. Combination of miR-130a and miR-495 inhibited RUNX3 expression at the protein level, but not at the mRNA level. miR-130a and miR-495 significantly inhibited the RUNX3-3'UTR-luciferase activity. Combination of miR-130a and miR-495 significantly decreased apoptosis determined by Annexin V-FITC/propidium iodide staining and flow cytometric analysis, and the expression of Bim in SNU484 gastric cancer cells. In addition, p21 and Bim, RUNX3 target genes, were completely downregulated by the combination of miR-130a and miR-495. Using matrigel plug assay, we found that antagomiRs specific for miR-130a and miR-495 significantly reduced angiogenesis in vivo. In conclusion, targeting miR-130a and miR-495 could be a potential therapeutics to recover RUNX3 expression under hypoxic conditions and in early tumorigenic progression.

Italian ryegrass is generally cultivated by a winter forage in a paddy field, the harvest season overlaps with rice transplantion in some cases. In addition, farmers can miss the optimal seedtime for Italian ryegrass because of the rainy season. Therefore, this research was conducted between October 2012 and June 2013 in Kwangjin, Korea to examine the effect of spring-seeding on the yields and quality of Italian ryegrass for the determination of an alternative if the optimal seedtime is missed. This trial consists of four different seeding dates (15 February, 25 February, 5 March, and 15 March) and three varieties (Kowinmaster, Kowinearly, and Green farm). The Italian ryegrass varieties "Kowinmaster," "Kowinearly," and "Green farm" were sown on February 15. The heading date of each variety showed from May 12 to May 9 and interval time of five days but the Treatment of March 15 planting date showed three days interval. The Kowinmaster variety, planted on February 15, was 93.0 cm taller on March 15 with a height of 105.7 cm. The Kowinearly and Green farm varieties planted on February 15 were of a similar height on February 25 and received a poor lodging score when planted quickly. The dry matter (DM) yield of the Kowinearly planted on February 15 was high but that of Green farm was low at 6,609 kg/ha and a difference was not shown between the varieties. The aim of this study was to determine whether the addition of soy isoflavones to dairy ice cream modifies diabetic biomarkers in the type 2 diabetic model mice. Forty male C57BL/6J-ob/ob mice were randomly divided into 4 groups and fed control diet (basal, 7% fat), MS diet (milk ice cream with sugar, 20% fat), MS-SI diet (MS ice cream with 0.01% soy isoflavones, 20% fat), or MF-SI diet (milk ice cream with 0.01% soy isoflavones, 5% fructooligosaccharide, 20% fat) for 12 weeks. Blood response area by glucose tolerance test, plasma levels of glucose, insulin, C-peptide, leptin, and blood HbA 1c were not significantly different among all the groups. Concentrations of interleukin-6 and tumor necrosis factor-α secreted from splenocytes induced by Concanavalin A were not significantly different among all the groups. In conclusion, soy isoflavones supplemented to ice cream did not alter diabetic biomarkers in diabetic type 2 model mice.Key words: soy isoflavones, ice cream, fructooligosaccharide, diabetes

Livestock Institute, Jeollanamdo Agricultural Research and Extension Services, Kangjin 527-822, KoreaABSTRACT The present study was performed to assess the worth of using the by products for seaweed (Eucheuma spinosum) ethanol production process (SEPPB) as broiler feeds. For this purpose, 225 broiler chicks (white mini broilers) were used as experimental animals. The control (Control group) was fed with the broiler feeds. 5% mixture (5% SEPPB group) was fed with a 5% SEPPB mixture feeds, and the 10% mixture (10% SEPPB group) was fed with a 10% SEPPB group mixture feeds. The experiment was repeated for five times and 15 birds were assigned in each experiment and the experimental period was five weeks. There was no difference in the rate of weight gain until the second week of the 5% SEPPB group and 10% SEPPB group. However, the weight gain rate was increased to 6.2% for the 5% SEPPB group and 11.4% for the 10% SEPPB group as compared to the Control group at the third weeks of the experimental period. There was no statistical significant difference in terms of feed FCR and feed intake. Analyses of the quality of chicken breasts showed that pH was 2.5% higher in the 5% SEPPB group and 2.3% higher in the 10% SEPPB group. Shearing force was 31.3% lower in the 5% SEPPB group and 14.7% lower in the 10% SEPPB group, while heating loss was 14.4% lower for 5% SEPPB group and 10% SEPPB group when compared to the Control group. No significant differences were observed in terms of moisture, protein, and crude ash components in chicken breast analyses. The present study examined effects of production performance, immune activity and egg quality by raising on exercise yard in laying Hens, the results of which could be used as baseline data to enhance animal welfare and the safety of livestock products. A total of 90 Hy-line-Brown laying hens of 13 weeks old were used in the experiment for 38 weeks. The cage group (Cage group) was raised in a cage, where an area of was assigned to two hens, while hens in the exercise yard group ( group) was assigned to a combination of a chicken house () and a exercise yard () per a hen. This study was carried out to investigate the dose-response of chitooligosaccharide (with a molecular weight of 1~3 kDa) on antimicrobial activity and lipid lowering functions in rats. Sprague-Dawley male rats were given experimental diets containing 0 (control), 0.5, 2, or 5% chitooligosaccharide (COS) for 5 weeks. Weight gain and food intake were significantly lower in rats fed 5% COS than control rats and rats fed 0.5 and 2% COS. The numbers of fecal bacteria, including bifidobacteria, lactobacilli, bacteroides, total anaerobes, and total aerobes, which reflect gut microbiota, were significantly decreased in rats fed 5% COS. Plasma triglyceride concentrations significantly decreased in a dose-dependent manner in rats fed 2% or 5% COS, while plasma total cholesterol was not significantly different among groups. The hepatic concentration of triglycerides was lower in rats fed 5% COS, and fecal triglycerides significantly increased in rats fed 5% COS. These results indicate that 5% COS supplementation in a diet may exert antimicrobial activity in vivo, and inhibit the proliferation of typical gut microbes, while lowering lipids.

This study was performed to investigate the differences in food choice, nutrition labeling perceptions, and prevalence of obesity due to meal skipping in Korean elementary school children. A national survey was performed in 2010 to collect data on food intake frequency, understanding of nutrition labeling, and body mass index from 2,335 fifth grade students in 118 elementary schools selected from 16 metropolitan local governments by stratified cluster sampling. The data were analyzed using the SAS 9.1 and SUDAAN 10.0 packages. Students who consumed three meals for 6-7 days during the past week were classified into the regular meal eating (RM) group (n = 1,476) and those who did not were placed into the meal skipping (MS) group (n = 859). The daily intake frequency of fruits, vegetables, kimchi, and milk was significantly lower in the MS group compared to that in the RM group (P < 0.001), whereas the daily intake frequency of soft drinks and instant noodles (ramyeon) was significantly higher in the MS group than that in the RM group (P < 0.05). The MS group demonstrated a significantly lower degree of understanding with regard to nutrition labeling and high calorie foods containing low nutritional value than that in the RM group. The distribution of obesity based on the percentile criteria using the Korean growth chart was different between the MS and RM groups. The MS group (8.97%) had a higher percentage of obese subjects than that in the RM group (5.38%). In conclusion, meal skipping was related to poor food choice, low perception of nutrition labeling, and a high prevalence of obesity in Korean fifth grade children.

The topic of Charlotte Bronte and the city, therefore, brings to light her engagement with the state of the world, challenging the common assumption that her literary concern was confined to matters of personal interest.

The study seeks to explore essential factors that influence tourists` continual revisit intentions to storytelling. The variables some factors such as education value, emotional value, theme value, satisfaction, and revisit from the model to achieve the research objective. The survey was conducted by users who has previously experienced tourism storytelling. Structural equation modeling is used to investigate the relationships between the factors and results show that `education value`, `emotional value`, and `theme value`, a variables are positively related to tourists satisfaction and revisit intentions. In particular, two factors which are education and theme had strongly significant of tourist`s attitude. The identified factors that influence revisit intentions on storytelling can be useful for analyzing the market trends and suggesting industrial guideline of Jeju Island and Mt. Halla.

Mansfield has often been noted for a visually perceptive or ‘painterly’ style of writing. If the form and content of her oeuvre are informed by the fine arts, the rhetoric involved in her text can be best termed as ‘impressionist’. Not only is her writing vibrant with light, colour and perceptual sensations, but it also established the short story, her hallmark genre, as the most appropriate mode for the impressionist record of transience, speed and mutability – the defining qualities of urban modernity. This article, accordingly, considers affinities between Mansfield and the Impressionists in terms of aesthetics, technical innovation and thematic concerns. Purpose This study compared the catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI) rates resulting from the use of four perineal care agents (soap-and-water, skin cleansing foam, 10% povidone-iodine, and normal saline) among patients in intensive care units (ICUs). Methods This four-group experimental study was done with 97 adult patients who had urinary catheters over 2 days in three ICUs between April and July 2008. The patients received one of the four types of perineal care. Data collected included the incidence of CAUTI at baseline (prior to perineal care) and 1 week, 2 weeks, and 4 weeks after beginning perineal care. Patients were divided into UTI and non-UTI groups based on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention/National Healthcare Safety Network UTI definition to calculate incidence rates. The hazard ratio (HR) and 95% confidence intervals were calculated by Cox's proportional hazard analysis. Results The cumulative incidence of CAUTIs per 100 urinary catheter days were 3.18 episodes during 1 week with urinary catheter, 3.31 during 2 weeks, and 3.04 during 4 weeks. No statistically significant difference in hazard ratios of CAUTIs for each perineal care agent was evident with reference to soap-and-water at 1 week, 2 weeks, and 4 weeks after beginning perineal care after controlling for age, use of antibiotics, fecal incontinence, consciousness level, fever, and diabetes. Conclusions The type of perineal care does not influence the incidence of CAUTIs. Further confirmatory studies with a larger patient population should be conducted, as well as determining perineal agent preference.

Vascular networks in cancer are structurally and functionally abnormal. Abnormal blood vessel development in cancer plays an important role in cancer growth and metastasis, and blocks delivery of chemotherapeutic drugs. Recent studies have revealed that the normalization of abnormal tumor vasculature is one of the promising approaches to treat cancer. Inflammatory microenvironment is one of the newly focused hallmarks of cancer, and tumor vasculature has similar features to that of inflammatory vessels. Thus, vascular inflammation is emerged as an attractive target for cancer treatment. We hypothesized that amelioration of vascular inflammation in tumor may induce vascular normalization leading to the inhibition of tumor progression and metastasis. Here, we investigated the function of ant-vascular nanoparticles in tumor growth and metastasis in LLC allograft tumor models and MMTV-PyMT, spontaneous breast tumor models using TFG and TFMG which are engineered a protein-cage nano-particle (ferritin) with both EPCR-targeting peptides (γ-carboxyglutamic acid (Gla) domain of protein C) and PAR-1-activating peptides (TRAP) of thrombin on its surface. As a result, tumor growth was significantly inhibited in the nanoparticle-injected group, and the lymph node metastasis was also decreased in both animal models. It has been found that the survival rate of the nanoparticle-injected group was prolonged. TFG and TFMG normalized abnormal tumor vasculature, that is, pericytes coverage in vasculatures was significantly increased but the hypoxic regions was decreased in the nanoparticle injected group. Furthermore, when the experiment was conducted by administering cisplatin and nanoparticles together in the LLC allograft tumor model, the tumor size was synergistically increased in the case of the nanoparticle and cisplatin combination administration compared to the cisplatin alone group. Taken together, anti-vascular inflammation nanoparticles with anti-vascular inflammatory properties normalized the abnormal blood vessels and inhibited tumor formation and metastasis. It is suggested that inducing normalization of cancer blood vessels by improving the inflammatory state of blood vessels may be a promising therapeutic method for effective cancer treatment. The potential of soy isoflavones (SIs) to reduce colon cancer has been investigated in animal models. These studies have found that outcomes are variable and depend on SI dose. The present study investigated dose-response effects of SIs on colon carcinogenesis in a chemically induced rat cancer model. Sprague-Dawley male rats were injected with 1,2-dimethylhydrazine (DMH) and were provided experimental diets that contained 0, 10, 50, 150, or 500 mg of SI aglycones/kg of diet for 12 weeks. Plasma concentrations of genistein, daidzein, and equol were determined using time-resolved fluoroimmunoassay. Plasma concentrations of these SIs tended to increase in a dose-dependent manner in DMH-treated rats. The numbers of aberrant crypt foci (ACF) and the expression of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) proteins of colons were significantly decreased in the SI-fed groups compared with the control group; however, suppression was not dose-dependent. Furthermore, there were no significant correlations between plasma SI concentrations and ACF or COX-2 expression. Increased SI intake and increased plasma levels of SIs and metabolites were not associated with tissue levels of lipid peroxidation. We conclude that dietary supplementation of SIs suppresses DMH-induced ACF formation and COX-2 expression in a dose-independent manner.

Free Use License is an effective means of allowing many people to freely use works in the public domain. It can also prevent copyright infringement problems. This article analyzes the current service and domestic and foreign technology as it applies to free use license. It then proposes a plan which incorporates diverse requirements including technical aspects. Strategies are formulated from the technical, service and the resources connection perspectives for applying license in addition to searching and using licensed works. This article suggests a three-stage utilization plan to encourage the use of free use license. First, a connection plan between digital archiving and free use license, is developed. Then, a connection plan between UCI identifier and free use license is developed, and finally, the plan for the use of public resources is presented.

This study is to develope the structures and the elements of the metadata for harvesting, management and preservation of a valuable web resources in the web archiving. For this study, we investigated the available metadata in the web archiving and surveyed the requirements of web archiving process. And we analyzed the characteristics of web resources. Also, this study was used a based on the ISO 14721 OAIS Reference Model. Finally, to share the metadata elements among the web archiving system, this study considered the interoperability for the exchange of the metadata. Based on the result, this study designed four structures of the metadata and defined the 28 core metadata elements for the web archiving. The National Library of Korea is administering a legal deposit system for the printed- publications. Whereas, OASIS(Online Archiving & Searching Inter net Sources) has to design a system to collect, manage and preserve web sites and web reso urces for Web Archiving. The purpose of this study is to develop a digital deposit proce ss for digital resources. As a result, this study defines the subjects and objects for digital deposits, and describes the definitions and the functions according to digital deposit steps. Spontaneous rupture of the left gastroepiploic vessel causing abdominal apoplexy or spontaneous hemoperitoneum is extremely rare. Such ambiguous condition can delay diagnosis, resulting in hypovolemic shock. Reporting such rare cases is valuable to clinicians. Here, we report a 19-year-old man who initially presented left upper quadrant pain and diaphoresis followed by vomiting after ingesting alcohol. He was diagnosed with diffuse hemoperitoneum and large amount of hematoma in left side of lesser sac due to spontaneous rupture of left gastroepiploic vessel. The patient underwent emergency exploratory laparoscopy. Bleeding was controlled by clipping the teared vessel.

We have investigated physiological effects of soy ice cream with oligosaccharide on oxidative stress and fecal microflora in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. Parched soybean powder (7.6, w/w) substituted skimmed milk and cream, soybean oil (7.6, w/w) for milk oil, and fructooligosaccharide (9.5, w/w) for sucrose. Five types of ice cream were prepared: regular, oligosaccharide-supplemented regular, soy, oligosaccharide - supplemented soy, and oligosaccharide - supplemented black soybean ice cream . Freeze - dried ice cream was supplemented to AIN93-based diets at 30 (w/w) containing 6.5 soy and 4.5 fructooligosaccharide. Diabetes was induced by intramuscular administration of streptozotocin, and experimental diets were given for 4 weeks. Plasma concentration of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) was significantly increased in the diabetic rats compared with the normal rats, then was significantly decreased with feeding soy ice cream containing diet compared with regular ice cream containing diet among the diabetic groups. The levels of TBARS in liver were decreased in the rats that were fed either soy or oligosaccharide ice cream compared with the rats that were fed regular ice cream. Erythrocyte superoxide dismutase activity was significantly increased in the rats fed soy ice cream compared with the rats fed regular ice cream. Erythrocyte glutathione peroxidase and catalase activities were significantly increased in the rats fed black soybean ice cream. Fecal concentrations of Lactobacilli were significantly higher in the rats fed soy ice cream and oligosaccharide- supplemented soy ice cream than that of the rats fed regular ice cream. Fecal concentrations of Bifidobacteria were significantly higher in the rats fed oligosaccharide- supplemented soy ice cream than that of the rats fed regular ice cream. In conclusion, oligosaccharide- supplemented soy ice cream suppressed lipid peroxidation and improved the got microbiota in diabetic rats compared with milk-based regular ice cream.

This study was conducted to investigate effects of fructans (chicory inulin, fructooligosaccharide and chicory inulin oligosaccharide) on blood glucose, activities of disaccharidases in small bowel and kidneys, and splenocyte proliferation in streptozotocin-induced diabetic mice. Sixty ICR male mice were divided into one normal group and four diabetic groups. Diabetes was induced by injecting streptozotocin after 2 weeks of experimental diets feeding. Experimental diets based on AIN93G diet were control diet, 6 fructooligosaccharide (FOS) diet, 6 chicory inulin oligosaccharide (CIOS) diet, 6 chicory inulin (Cl) diet, and given for 25 days after streptozotocin injection. Plasma glucose was lower in Diabetic-Cl group as compared to Diabetic-control group. Plasma insulin level was not different among diabetic groups. Multi-layer HTS cables are apt to experience unequal current distribution among their layers, which is a main reason of the occurrence of ac losses. In this study, the application of IPTs, which are known to control the impedance among paths of a circuit using a magnetic shield effect, were proposed to solve the problems of HTS cables. A 2 layer HTS cable conductor and IPTs were fabricated using Bi-2223/Ag tapes with a 115 A critical current. The inner layer of the HTS cable conductor was composed of 10 HTS tapes with a pitch length of 18 cm and the tapes of the outer layer were placed straightly without winding pitch. Applying various magnitudes of currents to IPTs, we investigated the current sharing performance between layers of the HTS cable conductor. The applied current was distributed uniformly into the layers successfully. In addition, the performance of IPTs was examined under various conditions for the practical application in detail. From the results, the application of IPTs to HTS cables was considered to be a useful method to reduce ac losses.

Defatted methanol extracts of the medicinal plants, Rubus coreanus Miq. (RC) and Atractylodes japonica Koidzumi (AJ) were added at the levels of 0.1, 0.5, or 2% (w/w) to high cholesterol diets and fed to ovariectomized Sprague-Dawley female rats, weighing 212.6±1.8 g for four weeks. Weight gains were lower in RC and AJ groups than the control group, but there were no changes in uterus weights. Serum levels of triglyceride decreased by 20～27% in the experimental groups fed 0.1% of each extract (0.1RC and 0.1AJ), compared with that of control (Ovx). Serum cholesterol levels were not changed in the RC groups but increased in the group fed 2% of the AJ extract. Liver levels of cholesterol and triglyceride were reduced in both the RC and AJ groups. Microscopic observation revealed that there were no morphological alterations in liver, lung, heart, spleen and kidney tissues of the experimental groups. Plasma levels of albumin, BUN, creatinine, sodium, potassium and phosphate in the RC and AJ groups were in normal ranges. Serum GOT and GPT activities were, however, higher in the 2.0AJ than Ovx group. These results suggest that the extracts of the Rubus coreanus Miq. and Atractylodes japonica Koidzumi at dietary levels as low as 0.1% may be utilized as hypotriglyceridemic ingredients for functional foods.
