The field of polymer‐based nanoscience has always been of significant interest in the search for polymer/carbon nanotube (CNT) nanocomposites with optimized material properties for new applications. Herein, it is demonstrated that data collected from the online literature can be used to develop an efficient deep learning model to design acrylonitrile–butadiene–styrene (ABS)/CNT binary composites. A dataset of 14 945 data points is constructed from 110 studies. The results demonstrate that compared with a vanilla deep regression model, the proposed model achieves a 26% lower average mean absolute error and an accuracy of 80.6%, which is 16.2% higher than the vanilla deep regression model in predicting the six electrical and mechanical properties of target ABS/CNT composites. In addition, a Monte Carlo simulation integrated with the developed deep neural network (DNN) model effectively screens input variables for users and thus appropriately guides them to manufacture a composite product with desired physical properties.

Abstract Tourette syndrome (TS) is a neuropsychiatric disorder of complex genetic architecture involving multiple interacting genes. Here, we sought to elucidate the pathways that underlie the neurobiology of the disorder through genome-wide analysis. We analyzed genome-wide genotypic data of 3581 individuals with TS and 7682 ancestry-matched controls and investigated associations of TS with sets of genes that are expressed in particular cell types and operate in specific neuronal and glial functions. We employed a self-contained, set-based association method (SBA) as well as a competitive gene set method (MAGMA) using individual-level genotype data to perform a comprehensive investigation of the biological background of TS. Our SBA analysis identified three significant gene sets after Bonferroni correction, implicating ligand-gated ion channel signaling, lymphocytic, and cell adhesion and transsynaptic signaling processes. MAGMA analysis further supported the involvement of the cell adhesion and trans-synaptic signaling gene set. The lymphocytic gene set was driven by variants in FLT3, raising an intriguing hypothesis for the involvement of a neuroinflammatory element in TS pathogenesis. The indications of involvement of ligand-gated ion channel signaling reinforce the role of GABA in TS, while the association of cell adhesion and trans-synaptic signaling gene set provides additional support for the role of adhesion molecules in neuropsychiatric disorders. This study reinforces previous findings but also provides new insights into the neurobiology of TS.

The properties of the material applied to the finite element (FE) simulation can be expressed by constitutive models, and simple constitutive and complex constitutive models can be used to show the actual phenomenon. The technology to improve the accuracy of the constitutive model applied to FE simulation is the inverse method. The inverse method is a method to curve fit the FE simulation result to the test data by utilizing finite element model updating (FEMU). Inverse methods are general approaches to update material properties. The inverse method can iteratively run many FE simulations for constitutive model optimization and consider metamodel-based simulation optimization (MBSO) to reduce this resource waste. With MBSO, one can obtain significant results with fewer resources. However, the MBSO algorithm has the problem in that the optimization performance deteriorates as the number of parameters increases. The typical process of the inverse method is to adjust these factor values individually. If there are many factors in the constitutive model, the optimization result may deteriorate owing to the performance limit of the MBSO when the structural method is used. This paper proposes a method of fitting a stress–strain constitutive model with a scaling factor to improve the efficiency of the inversion method using MBSO. For this purpose, a process was performed to determine the curve characteristics during the pretreatment stage. The results show that the proposed method significantly improved the prediction efficiency of the combination function. Thus, we conclude that initializing the combination function and setting the parameters of the inverse method by applying the proposed approach improves the efficiency of large deformation analyses.

A colonic arteriovenous malformation (AVM) is a significant vascular lesion of the gastrointestinal tract and a common cause of lower gastrointestinal bleeding. AVMs are usually identified endoscopically as bright red, flat lesions. AVMs with a polypoid appearance are extremely rare in the large intestine. We present two cases of colonic polypoid AVM, which were detected incidentally during screening colonoscopy. Both the patients had no history of gastrointestinal bleeding such as melena or hematochezia. Colonoscopy revealed pedunculated polyps overlaid by hyperemic mucosa in the ascending colon and proximal sigmoid colon. Microscopic examination showed aberrant vessels with thickened, hypertrophic walls in the mucosa and the submucosa, and arteries were directly connected to veins without capillary beds. These features were compatible with a diagnosis of AVM with a polypoid appearance. No immediate or delayed bleeding was noted after polypectomy.

A grommet is a representative component that fixes the position of a cable. It is made from hyper-elastic materials (rubber), such as ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM). The grommet and cable are conventionally fixed through bonding; however, this method has numerous disadvantages that can be improved through relevant research. To apply a fixing method using the elastic force of EPDM rubber, this paper presents an empirical equation for approximating the bonding force of EPDM grommet parts with a hollow shaft geometry. First, tensile tests and the inverse method were used to approximate the basic mechanical properties. The physical properties were derived through basic tests; furthermore, bonding force tests and the inverse method were used on a grommet with a hollow shaft structure. In addition, the Box–Behnken design of experiments was used to predict the amount of change in the bonding force according to the geometry variables. Finally, this study was validated by comparing the approximation results derived through the design of experiments with the analysis and bonding force test results.

Patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) commonly develop pain and agitation. Such symptoms are associated with adverse clinical outcomes, as they can cause delirium, self-removal of life-sustaining devices, difficulty in use of ventilatory supports, hemodynamic instability, intracranial hypertension, posttraumatic stress disorder, etc. Thus, prompt recognition and treatment of pain and agitation are imperative. Identification of possible causes of pain and agitation and nonpharmacological managements should be attempted initially. However, administration of analgesics and sedatives is necessary in many cases. Preemptive interventions prior to procedures to relieve pain are recommended. Intravenous opioids are considered as the first-line drug to treat pain in critically ill patients, especially in those who require mechanical ventilation. For most patients in the ICU, a light level of sedation is associated with improved clinical outcomes. However, patients with unstable medical conditions including severe acute respiratory distress syndrome, hemodynamic instability, refractory status epilepticus, and intracranial hypertension may require a deep level of sedation. Sedation strategies using non-benzodiazepine sedatives may be preferred over sedation with benzodiazepines in mechanically ventilated patients to shorten the duration of mechanical ventilation, length of ICU stay, and days with delirium. Often, ensuring that critically ill patients are free from pain and agitation may conflict with other clinical management goals. Therefore, provision of comprehensive care based on the patients’ condition cannot be overemphasized in the ICU. The purpose of this review is to address pain and agitation management strategies and introduce pharmacological characteristics of sedatives and analgesics commonly used in the ICU.

The aims of this study were to examine the factor structure, internal consistency, 1-month test–retest reliability, and congruent validity of the Chinese version of the School Bullying Experience Questionnaire (C-SBEQ). Study 1, in which 5751 Taiwanese adolescents in Southern Taiwan participated, examined the adequacy of the original four-factor structure of the C-SBEQ using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and internal-consistency reliability using Cronbach α. Study 2, in which 108 adolescents in Southern Taiwan participated, examined the 1-month test–retest reliability using intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs). We examined the congruent validity of the C-SBEQ by examining the consistency between self-reported and teacher- and classmate-nominated experiences of bullying involvement in Study 2. The results of CFA supported the four-factor structure of the C-SBEQ in Taiwanese adolescents. The test–retest and internal reliability values of all subscales of the C-SBEQ were at acceptable to satisfactory levels. Nominated adolescents had significantly higher self-reported scores on three C-SBEQ subscales than non-nominated ones, and the levels of agreement between self-reported and nominated victims were moderate. The results of this study indicate that the C-SBEQ is appropriate for assessing bullying experiences in Taiwanese adolescents.

BackgroundEmergence agitation is associated with increased morbidity and hospital costs. However, there have been few reports in the medical literature on the occurrence of emergence agitation in adults. The aim of this study was to compare emergence agitation between sevoflurane and propofol anesthesia in adults after closed reduction of nasal bone fracture.MethodsForty adults (ASA I-II, 20-60 yr) undergoing closed reduction of nasal bone fracture were randomly assigned to either sevoflurane or propofol group and anesthesia was maintained with sevoflurane or propofol. The bispectral index (BIS) was monitored and maintained within 40-60. At the end of surgery, patients were transported to the post anesthetic care unit (PACU) and agitation state scale was checked by Aono's four-point scale (AFPS). Emergence agitation was defined as and AFPS score of 3 or 4. Pain score were measured by numeric rating scale (NRS) on arrival and peak value at PACU.ResultsNine (45.0%) patients in the sevoflurane group and 2 (10.0%) patients in the propofol group developed emergence agitation in the PACU (P = 0.031). There was no correlation between peak NRS and Aono's four-point scale.ConclusionsPropofol may decrease incidence of emergence agitation compared to sevoflurane in adults undergoing closed reduction of nasal bone fracture.

Objectives : The Purpose of this study was to evidence the effect of Herbal Acupuncture therapy(Sangsik no.1) by comparing body fat and obesity degree of Group B(group of Herbal acupuncture therapy and general obesity treatment) with Group A(group of non-Herbal acupuncture therapy and general obesity treatment) in twenty four patients who have received OPD treatment at Sang Ji oriental medical hospital and chiefly diagnosed obesity from June 2000 to September 2001. Methods : We checked the change of Obesity degree with Inbody 3.0. Results and Conclusions : Two groups were no significance, but remarkably showed a significant decrease in Percent Body Fat. According to the above results, it is considered that Herbal Acupuncture therapy(Sangsik no.1) showed a significant decrease in Percent Body Fat, but Others were no significance.

We have developed an attitude sensing S/W system, one of modules of Mission Analysis System(MAS), which simulates attitude sensing data as almost the same as the real sensor of a satellite in orbit. When attitude elements(¥á,¥ä) of a satellite and positions of Earth, Moon, and Sun are given, the S/W system calculates look angles and dihedral angles of each celestial bodies relative to the rotations axis of the satellite. It consists of two sub-modules : One is ephemeris service module which consider the perturbations of four planets(Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn) for positions of Sun and Moon and 4 x 4 earth gravitational potential terms for a satellite's position. The other is attitude simulation module which generates attitude sensing data. Varying the rotational axis of a satellite and it's orbital elements, we simulated the generating attitude sensing data with this S/W system and discussed their results.

With the rapid development of ecofriendly cars, various inverters are also being developed depending on the performance of motors. The DC-link capacitor is used as an inverter component; however, there are several limitations on its size, such as the requirement for wide films. Film width is a major factor that affects the capacitor’s equivalent series resistance (ESR) and is closely related to heat generation. When the temperature of the capacitor increases, the dielectric breakdown due to high voltage causes a reduction in capacitance, which leads to a decrease in inverter power and causes vehicle defects; this needs to be addressed to minimize the heat of the capacitor. Recently, genetic films that can be used at high temperatures have been developed. However, producing such films is difficult because of their 5 µm thickness; thus, the size increases when they are designed and they consequently cannot be used in practical applications. Based on a film width of 50 mm, this study analyzed the factors that can reduce ESR, set the level for each factor, and conducted experiments using the Box–Behnken design. The variables (thermal conductivity, film thickness, and capacitance) were set to three levels for each factor, and the ESR, thermal flux, and temperature characteristics were analyzed through finite element analysis. Based on the temperature results, optimized conditions for film thickness of 3.15 μm, capacitance of 390 μF, and thermal conductivity epoxy of 4.5 W/m·K were derived using Minitab, and samples were made for verification tests. A capacitor was installed in the chamber and was saturated for 2 h at 85 °C and current of 50 A rms was applied at 16 kHz frequency. The K Type sensor attached to the film surface was connected to a temperature recorder to measure the temperature change in the film over time after applying the current. The experimental results confirmed that the temperature of the genetic film with a 50 mm film width was similar to that with a 35 mm film width, and this confirmed that the set factors were similar to that of the genetic film with 35 mm film width. It was confirmed that increased film width can reduce ESR and minimize heat generation.

Context: Population-based studies on the familial aggregation of Graves disease (GD) are scarce and gene-environment interactions are not wellstudied. Objective: We evaluated the familial aggregation of GD and assessed interactions between family history and smoking. Methods: Using the National Health Insurance database, which includes information on familial relationships and lifestyle risk factors, we identified 5 524 403 individuals with first-degree relatives (FDRs). Familial risk was calculated using hazard ratios (HRs), comparing the risk of individuals with and without affected FDRs. Interactions between smoking and family history were assessed on an additive scale using relative excess risk due to interaction (RERI). Results: The HR among individuals with affected FDRs was 3.39 (95% CI, 3.30-3.48) compared with those without affected FDR, and among individuals with affected twin, brother, sister, father, and mother, the HRs were 36.53 (23.85-53.54), 5.26 (4.89-5.66), 4.12 (3.88-4.38), 3.34 (3.16- 3.54), and 2.63 (2.53-2.74), respectively. Individuals with both a positive family history and smoking had an increased risk of disease (HR 4.68) with statistically significant interaction (RERI 0.94; 95% CI, 0.74-1.19). Heavy smokers with a positive family history showed a nearly 6-fold increased risk, which was higher than moderate smoking, suggesting a dose-response interaction pattern. Current smoking also showed a statistically significant interaction with family history (RERI 0.52; 95% CI, 0.22-0.82), while this was not observed for former smoking. Conclusion: A gene-environment interaction can be suggested between smoking and GD-associated genetic factors, which diminishes after smoking cessation. Smokers with a positive family history should be considered a high-risk group and smoking cessation should be advised. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Children in low-resource countries like Georgia often have limited access to assessment measures for mental health care services. This study adapts and validates the mental health screening tool the Strength and Difficulties Questionnaire for use in Georgian children. Methods: A total of 16 654 children were assessed by a parent and/or teacher using Georgian-adapted Strength and Difficulties Questionnaire. Receiver operating characteristic analyses were performed to assess the discriminative validity of the Strength and Difficulties Questionnaires and to establish an optimal cutoff score. Results: Data from 15 738 parents- and 13 560 teachers-administered Strength and Difficulties Questionnaire were analyzed. The internal consistency analysis showed Cronbach's alpha to be 0.625 and 0.621 for parent- and teacher-administered Strength and Difficulties Questionnaire, respectively. The area under the curve (95% CI) shows that the Strength and Difficulties Questionnaire can differentiate risk group children from typically developing peers: parent-administered questionnaires--0.629 (0.556-0.702) and teacher-administered questionnaires--0.680 (0.611-0.789). Parent-administered Strength and Difficulties Questionnaire has a cutoff value of 16 or more with 92.5% of sensitivity and teacher-administered Strength and Difficulties Questionnaire--14 or more with a sensitivity of 85.6%. Conclusion: The study finds that the Strength and Difficulties Questionnaire is a valid screening instrument and does not depend on the informant--parent or teacher. It suggests that with appropriate cultural adaptation, the SDQ can be used in the Republic of Georgia to identify children at risk for mental disorders and help guide resource allocation. There has been a recent surge of interest in vacuum insulating glass (VIG) due to its excellent thermal insulation performance. Vacuum glazing is necessary for high-performance sealing solders and various applications in sealing technology. This paper describes experimental studies into heating and edge-sealing of flat glass using microwaves. Electric−thermal coupled analysis using ANSYS was employed and heating and edge-sealing experiments were conducted on flat glass. In order to ensure a uniform electric field distribution in the microwave chamber, the electric field and temperature distributions were analyzed according to waveguide patterns. In addition, the electric field and temperature distribution were analyzed with the inclusion of carbon susceptor plates. Based on the electric simulation results by waveguide pattern, a microwave heating chamber was fabricated, and a basic experiment was conducted on both heating and edge-sealing of the glass. The cross-section of the sealed glass confirmed that it was sealed without cracks or breakage.

Studying the characteristics of materials through a finite element analysis (FEA) has various benefits; hence, many studies have been conducted to improve the reliability of the analysis results. In general, the mechanical properties used in FEA for metals and metal composites are stress−strain data obtained through tensile tests, which are used for modeling from a macroscopic perspective. While many studies have been conducted on metal materials, there are limited studies on the analysis of polymer composite materials produced through injection and special processing. In this study, existing inverse methods were applied, and an FEA was conducted to reproduce the axial displacement of the tensile specimens comprising glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP); further, errors were examined by comparing the test and analysis results. To reduce such errors, the experiment and the FEA results were analyzed through parameter optimization based on various empirical formulas. The accuracy of various inverse methods were examined and an inverse method suitable for GFRP was proposed.

Ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) has superior mechanical properties, water resistance, heat resistance, and ozone resistance. It can be applied to various products owing to its low hardness and high slip resistance properties. A grommet is one of the various products made using EPDM rubber. It is a main component of automobiles, in which it protects wires throughout the inside and outside of a vehicle body. The grommet, made of EPDM, has different mounting performance depending on the process parameters and the shape of the grommet. This study conducted optimization to improve the mounting performance of a grommet using EPDM materials. The physical properties of the main molding materials were investigated according to process parameters. A grommet was fabricated according to the process parameters of fabrication. Insertion force and separation force were examined through experiments. Nonlinear material constants were determined through uniaxial and biaxial tensile tests. The nonlinear analysis of the grommet was conducted, and a compound design that incorporated the shape parameters for the minimum load of each part was derived. Then, additional nonlinear analysis was performed. This was followed by a comparative analysis of the actual model through experimental evaluation.
