To report the clinical and radiological outcomes of arthroscopic bone grafting and percutaneous K-wire fixation without radial styloidectomy in patients with scaphoid nonunion advanced collapse (SNAC). We retrospectively analyzed the records of 15 patients with SNAC who were treated with arthroscopic bone grafting and percutaneous K-wire fixation and subsequently followed up for a minimum of 1 year between November 2009 and March 2018. The clinical outcomes were evaluated by comparing the range of motion (ROM), grip strength, the modified Mayo Wrist Score, and visual analog scale (VAS) scores for pain, all of which were measured preoperatively and at the last follow-up. The radiologic outcomes were evaluated by comparing the scapholunate (SL) and radiolunate (RL) angles preoperatively and at the last follow-up. All 15 cases of nonunion were resolved. The average radiologic union time was 9.7 ± 1.2 weeks. The average VAS score increased from 5.7 ± 2.3 (range, 2 - 10) preoperatively to 1.3 ± 1.3 (range, 0 - 3) at the last follow-up (P.05). The average modified Mayo wrist score increased from 58.3 ± 14.0 preoperatively to 80.0 ± 9.2 at the last follow-up (P.05). The mean ROM of the wrist improved, but there was no statistical significance. At the last follow-up, the mean flexion and radial deviation on the affected side were significantly decreased, and the mean extension on the affected side was significantly improved compared to the normal side (P.05). The mean preoperative SL and RL angles were 66 ± 11.9° and 7.2 ± 6.8°, respectively, and were decreased to 50.4 ± 7.5° and 6.4 ± 5.2°, respectively, at the last follow-up. The mean SL angle was significantly corrected (P = .01). Arthroscopic bone grafting and percutaneous Kerschner (K)-wire fixation without radial styloidectomy are considered to be very effective methods for correcting scaphoid deformities to treat SNAC stage I. However, caution may be needed during the surgery to prevent reductions in flexion and the radial deviation of the wrist.

Objectives: The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between diabetes mellitus and oral disease in the Korea adults by using the representative data of Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) V. Methods: Using data from a cross-sectional survey of Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey V. The subjects were 5,602 adults over 19 years old. The survey data and the examination data are used for the independent variables. KNHANES included health status, nutrition survey, and oral examination. The health status was obtained by a self-reported questionnaire of the study subjects and direct interview was carried out on economic status, prevalence rate, and use of medical services. Results: The regular dental checkup of diabetes patients was significantly lower than the general population. Regular dental visits allow adults to receive early diagnosis and obtain restorative care at the first visit. The regular annual oral examination is very important to prevent and manage the chronic diseases including diabetes mellitus. Conclusions: Diabetes mellitus can be fully prevented and managed by the regular annual dental checkup. The establishment of the regular dental checkup system can prevent and manage the complication due to diabetes mellitus and other chronic diseases.

Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine what teaching behavi or would have a good effect on learn-ers in lecture-style instruction in the department of dental hygiene.Methods : The subjects in this study were 650 students who were in the three-year department of dental hygieneat four colleges in Gyeonggi Province and Chungcheong Province. After a survey was conducted, frequencyanalysis and ANOVA were utilized to analyze the collected data. The findings of the study were as follows.Results : The students put the highest value on knowledge among the fac tors of teaching behavior irrespective oftheir academic year, academic standing and learning style, followed by skills and attitude. Out of every subfactor,they set the highest value on a sense of humor regardless of th eir academic year, academic standing and learningstyle, and put the lowest value on the attitude factor such as enthusiasm. There were differences among the stu-dents in evaluation of the factors of teaching behavior accordi ng to academic year, and the students whose acad-emic year was higher set a higher value on the factors of teach ing behavior. There were no differences accordingto their academic standing and learning style.Conclusions : The dental hygiene students viewed the knowledge factor as th e effective factor of teaching beha-vior, and regarded a sense of humor as the best subfactor. In this paper, a method to allocate a submarine search mission to an ASW(Anti-Submarine Warfare) helicopter is proposed. The aim of the proposed method is to increase the submarine detection capability. For this purpose, we modeled the behaviors that the ASW helicopter conduct during the search mission, and the relations between the behaviors are also modeled. To measure quantitatively the effectiveness of ASW search mission, the measure of effectiveness(MOP) is defined. Scenarios are designed to analyze the effectiveness utilizing the ASW mission model. We conducted simulations applying the designed scenarios and some parameters concerned with the friendly ship and the enemy submarine interacting each other in the ASW missions. We analyzed the result of simulation depending on the dipping interval and the pattern of dipping positions in the situation that the helicopter operates for a long time and should resupply several times on the friendly ship. From the analyzed data, we suggested the practical value of ratio between the detectable range of the sonar and the dipping interval to improve the effectiveness of ASW mission.

In this paper, we considered the authoritative representation of Command and Fire Control System(CFCS) for the surface ship that was the engineering level model to develop system specifications and to analyze operational concepts on the concept design phase and to analyze military requirements, effectiveness and performance for the system. The engineering level model of CFCS can be used in simulation independently of the surface ship`s type, and also it takes reuse, interoperability, and extension into consideration. The detailed sub-models, internal and external data interface, data flow among each sub-model, sensor and weapon models about the engineering level model of CFCS was defined. It was verified via engineering level simulations according to the V&V process.

Purpose: The objective of this study is to confirm the effects of risk factors on Adjacent Segment Disease (ASD). Materials and Methods: The subjects of this study were 793 patients who had degenerative lumbar spine disease and were followed-up for an average period of 7.2 years from January of 1999 to September of 2010 after undergoing spinal fusion. To confirm the risk factors, a study on patient factors, surgical factors and radiologic factors was performed. Results: Of 793 patients, 69 patients (group A, 8.7%) underwent a secondary surgical treatment due to ASD. Age of patient, sex, bone mineral density, history of smoking and occupation were not statistically significant. Preoperative body mass index (BMI) (≥25 kg/m 2 ) and postoperative increase of BMI were the patient’s factor in ASD (p=0.02, p＜0.001). Regarding surgical factors, multilevel fusion (more than 3 levels) was higher risk in prevalence of ASD than short level fusion (p=0.01). Degeneration of intervertebral disc (p=0.01) and facet joints (p=0.02), and segmental instability (p=0.001) were also associated with the prevalence of ASD in radiologic factors. Conclusion: To prevent the occurrence of ASD after lumbosacral fusion, selection of the proper level of fusion preoperatively and modifying the life style with body weight control and reduction of hypermobility after fusion surgery are essential.
