The entangled photons are crucial resources for quantum communications and networking. Here, we present an ultra-bright polarization-entangled photon source based on a periodically poled lithium niobate waveguide designed for practical quantum communication networks. Using a 780 nm pump laser, the source achieves a pair generation rate of 2.4 $\times 10^{10}$ pairs/s/mW. This work has achieved a directly measured power of 17.9 nW in entangled photon generation with a 3.2 mW pump power. Based on this, we demonstrate the practicality of the source by conducting quantum key distribution experiments over long-distance fiber links, achieving the applicable secure key rates of up to 440.80 bits/s over 200 km with 62 dB loss and reaching a maximum secure key generation distance of 404 km. Suppressing high-frequency laser phase noise, particularly at frequencies near and beyond typical feedback bandwidths of a few MHz, is a critical yet challenging task in many advanced applications. Feedforward-based methods generally outperform feedback in high-frequency range, but their performances are more susceptible to perturbations. In this work, we focus on the Pound-Drever-Hall (PDH)-feedforward method we demonstrated recently [Yu-Xin Chao et al., Optica 11(7), 945-950 (2024)] and analyze the factors that affect its long-term stability. By constructing a simple circuit allowing for adaptive control of the feedforward gain in response to power fluctuations of cavity transmission, we demonstrate a robust $\geq 40$~dB suppression of laser phase noise around 2~MHz and a noise suppression bandwidth up to 50~MHz. In comparison, when using normal PDH feedback, robust noise suppression of over 40 dB can only occur for frequencies below tens of kHz in most setups. Our findings may pave the way for general usage of PDH feedforward and allow for simple construction of low-noise lasers for precise quantum controls and precision metrology.

With antenna spacing much less than half a wavelength in confined space, holographic multiple-input multiple-output (HMIMO) technology presents a promising frontier in next-generation mobile communication. We delve into the research of the multi-user uplink transmission with both the base station and the users equipped with holographic planar arrays. To begin, we construct an HMIMO channel model utilizing electromagnetic field equations, accompanied by a colored noise model that accounts for both electromagnetic interference and hardware noise. Since this model is continuous, we approximate it within a finite-dimensional space spanned by Fourier space series, which can be defined as the communication mode functions. We show that this channel model samples Green's function in the wavenumber domain in different communication modes. Subsequently, we tackle the challenging task of maximizing the spectral efficiency (SE) of the system, which involves optimizing the continuous current density function (CDF) for each user. Using the aforementioned approximation model, we transform the optimization variables into expansion coefficients of the CDFs on a finite-dimensional space, for which we propose an iterative water-filling algorithm. The next sixth generation (6G) networks are envisioned to integrate sensing and communications in a single system, thus greatly improving spectrum utilization and reducing hardware costs. Low earth orbit (LEO) satellite communications combined with massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technology holds significant promise in offering ubiquitous and seamless connectivity with high data rates. Existing integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) studies mainly focus on terrestrial systems, while operating ISAC in massive MIMO LEO satellite systems is promising to provide high-capacity communication and flexible sensing ubiquitously. In this paper, we first give an overview of LEO satellite systems and ISAC and consider adopting ISAC in the massive MIMO LEO satellite systems. Then, the recent research advances are presented. The unsourced random access (URA) has emerged as a viable scheme for supporting the massive machine-type communications (mMTC) in the sixth generation (6G) wireless networks. Notably, the tensor-based URA (TURA), with its inherent tensor structure, stands out by simultaneously enhancing performance and reducing computational complexity for the multi-user separation, especially in mMTC networks with a large numer of active devices. However, current TURA scheme lacks the soft decoder, thus precluding the incorporation of existing advanced coding techniques. In order to fully explore the potential of the TURA, this paper investigates the Polarcoded TURA (PTURA) scheme and develops the corresponding iterative Bayesian receiver with feedback (IBR-FB). Specifically, in the IBR-FB, we propose the Grassmannian modulation-aided Bayesian tensor decomposition (GM-BTD) algorithm under the variational Bayesian learning (VBL) framework, which leverages the property of the Grassmannian modulation to facilitate the convergence of the VBL process, and has the ability to generate the required soft information without the knowledge of the number of active devices. Furthermore, based on the soft information produced by the GM-BTD, we design the soft Grassmannian demodulator in the IBR-FB. Channel knowledge map (CKM) has received widespread attention as an emerging enabling technology for environment-aware wireless communications. It involves the construction of databases containing location-specific channel knowledge, which are then leveraged to facilitate channel state information (CSI) acquisition and transceiver design. In this context, a fundamental challenge lies in efficiently constructing the CKM based on a given wireless propagation environment. Most existing methods are based on stochastic modeling and sequence prediction, which do not fully exploit the inherent physical characteristics of the propagation environment, resulting in low accuracy and high computational complexity. To address these limitations, we propose a Laplacian pyramid (LP)-based CKM construction scheme to predict the channel knowledge at arbitrary locations in a targeted area. Specifically, we first view the channel knowledge as a 2-D image and transform the CKM construction problem into an image-to-image (I2I) inpainting task, which predicts the channel knowledge at a specific location by recovering the corresponding pixel value in the image matrix. Then, inspired by the reversible and closed-form structure of the LP, we show its natural suitability for our task in designing a fast I2I mapping network. For different frequency components of LP decomposition, we design tailored networks accordingly. Besides, to encode the global structural information of the propagation environment, we introduce self-attention and cross-covariance attention mechanisms in different layers, respectively. Finally, experimental results show that the proposed scheme outperforms the benchmark, achieving higher reconstruction accuracy while with lower computational complexity. In massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems, the downlink transmission performance heavily relies on accurate channel state information (CSI). Constrained by the transmitted power, user equipment always transmits sounding reference signals (SRSs) to the base station through frequency hopping, which will be leveraged to estimate uplink CSI and subsequently predict downlink CSI. This paper aims to investigate joint channel estimation and prediction (JCEP) for massive MIMO with frequency hopping sounding (FHS). Specifically, we present a multiple-subband (MS) delay-angle-Doppler (DAD) domain channel model with off-grid basis to tackle the energy leakage problem. Furthermore, we formulate the JCEP problem with FHS as a multiple measurement vector (MMV) problem, facilitating the sharing of common CSI across different subbands. To solve this problem, we propose an efficient Off-Grid-MS hybrid message passing (HMP) algorithm under the constrained Bethe free energy (BFE) framework. Aiming to address the lack of prior CSI in practical scenarios, the proposed algorithm can adaptively learn the hyper-parameters of the channel by minimizing the corresponding terms in the BFE expression. To alleviate the complexity of channel hyper-parameter learning, we leverage the approximations of the off-grid matrices to simplify the off-grid hyper-parameter estimation. Counting ground state degeneracy of a $k$-local Hamiltonian is important in many fields of physics. Its complexity belongs to the problem of sharp bounded-error quantum polynomial time (#BQP) class and few methods are known for its solution. Finding ground states of a $k$-local Hamiltonian, on the other hand, is an easier problem of Quantum Merlin Arthur (QMA) class, for which many efficient methods exist. In this work, we propose an algorithm of mapping a #BQP problem into one of finding a special ground state of a $k$-local Hamiltonian. We prove that all traditional methods, which solve the QMA problem by evolution under a function of a Hamiltonian, can be used to find the special ground state from a well-designed initial state, thus can solve the #BQP problem. We combine our algorithm with power method, Lanczos method, and quantum imaginary time evolution method for different systems to illustrate the detection of phase boundaries, competition between frustration and quantum fluctuation, and potential implementations with quantum circuits., Comment: 11 pages, 7 figures

Owing to the broad energy coverage of Insight-HXMT in the hard X-ray band, we detected the highest energy of pulsation exceeding 200 keV around the 2017-2018 outburst peak of the first Galactic pulsating ultraluminous X-ray source (PULX) Swift J0243.6+6124, which is the highest energy detected from PULXs to date. We also obtained the highest energy of pulsation of every exposure during the outburst in 2017-2018, and found the highest energy is roughly positively correlated with luminosity. Using our newly developed method, we identified the critical luminosity being $4\times 10^{38}\, \rm erg\,s^{-1}$ when the main peaks of the low and high energy pulse profiles became aligned, which separates the fan-beam dominated and pencil-beam dominated accretion regimes. Above the critical luminosity, the phase of the main peak shifted gradually from 0.5 to 0.8 until the outburst peak in all energy bands is reached, which is in agreement with the phase shift found previously at low energies. In this paper, we investigate the precoder design for user-centric network (UCN) massive multiple-input multiple-output (mMIMO) downlink with matrix manifold optimization. In UCN mMIMO systems, each user terminal (UT) is served by a subset of base stations (BSs) instead of all the BSs, facilitating the implementation of the system and lowering the dimension of the precoders to be designed. By proving that the precoder set satisfying the per-BS power constraints forms a Riemannian submanifold of a linear product manifold, we transform the constrained precoder design problem in Euclidean space to an unconstrained one on the Riemannian submanifold. Riemannian ingredients, including orthogonal projection, Riemannian gradient, retraction and vector transport, of the problem on the Riemannian submanifold are further derived, with which the Riemannian conjugate gradient (RCG) design method is proposed for solving the unconstrained problem. The proposed method avoids the inverses of large dimensional matrices, which is beneficial in practice. The complexity analyses show the high computational efficiency of RCG precoder design. Integrated communications and localization (ICAL) will play an important part in future sixth generation (6G) networks for the realization of Internet of Everything (IoE) to support both global communications and seamless localization. Massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) low earth orbit (LEO) satellite systems have great potential in providing wide coverage with enhanced gains, and thus are strong candidates for realizing ubiquitous ICAL. In this paper, we develop a wideband massive MIMO LEO satellite system to simultaneously support wireless communications and localization operations in the downlink. In particular, we first characterize the signal propagation properties and derive a localization performance bound. Based on these analyses, we focus on the hybrid analog/digital precoding design to achieve high communication capability and localization precision. Color centers in silicon carbide (SiC) have demonstrated significant promise for quantum information processing. However, the undesirable ionization process that occurs during optical manipulation frequently causes fluctuations in the charge state and performance of these defects, thereby restricting the effectiveness of spin-photon interfaces. Recent predictions indicate that divacancy defects near stacking faults possess the capability to stabilize their neutral charge states, thereby providing robustness against photoionization effects. In this work, we present a comprehensive protocol for the scalable and targeted fabrication of single divacancy arrays in 4H-SiC using a high-resolution focused helium ion beam. Through photoluminescence emission (PLE) experiments, we demonstrate long-term emission stability with minimal linewidth shift ($\sim$ 50 MHz over 3 hours) for the single c-axis divacancies within stacking faults. By measuring the ionization rate for different polytypes of divacancies, we found that the divacancies within stacking faults are more robust against resonant excitation. Additionally, angle-resolved PLE spectra reveal their two resonant-transition lines with mutually orthogonal polarizations. Notably, the PLE linewidths are approximately 7 times narrower and the spin-coherent times are 6 times longer compared to divacancies generated via carbon-ion implantation. These findings highlight the immense potential of SiC divacancies for on-chip quantum photonics and the construction of efficient spin-to-photon interfaces, indicating a significant step forward in the development of quantum technologies., Comment: 11 pages, 4 figures

Integrated quantum light source is increasingly desirable in large-scale quantum information processing.~Despite recent remarkable advances, new material platform is constantly being explored for the fully on-chip integration of quantum light generation, active and passive manipulation, and detection. Here, for the first time, we demonstrate a gallium nitride (GaN) microring based quantum light generation in the telecom C-band, which has potential towards the monolithic integration of quantum light source.~In our demonstration, the GaN microring has a free spectral range of 330 GHz and a near-zero anomalous dispersion region of over 100 nm. The generation of energy-time entangled photon pair is demonstrated with a typical raw two-photon interference visibility of 95.5$\pm$6.5%, which is further configured to generate heralded single photon with a typical heralded second-order auto-correlation $g^{(2)}_{H}(0)$ of 0.045$\pm$0.001. Our results pave the way for developing chip-scale quantum photonic circuit.

Numerous applications at the photon-starved regime require a free-space coupling singlephoton detector with a large active area, low dark count rate (DCR), and superior time resolutions. Here,we developed a superconducting microstrip single-photon detector (SMSPD), with a large active area of 260 um in diameter, a DCR of ~5 kcps, and a low time jitter of ~171 ps, operated at near-infrared of 1550 nm. As a demonstration, we applied the detector to a single-pixel galvanometer scanning system and successfully reconstructed object information in depth and intensity using a time-correlated photon counting technology., Comment: 12 pages, 6 figures

Solid-state qubits with a photonic interface is very promising for quantum networks. Color centers in silicon carbide have shown excellent optical and spin coherence, even when integrated with membranes and nano-structures. Additionally, nuclear spins coupled with electron spins can serve as long-lived quantum memories. Pioneering work in previous has realized the initialization of a single nuclear spin and demonstrated its entanglement with an electron spin. In this paper, we report the first realization of single-shot readout for a nuclear spin in SiC. We obtain a deterministic readout fidelity of 98.2% with a measurement duration of 1.13 ms. With a dual-step readout scheme, we obtain a readout fidelity as high as 99.5% with a success efficiency of 89.8%. Quantum metrology employs entanglement to enhance measurement precision. The focus and progress so far have primarily centered on estimating a single parameter. In diverse application scenarios, the estimation of more than one single parameter is often required. Joint estimation of multiple parameters can benefit from additional advantages for further enhanced precision. Here we report quantum-enhanced measurement of simultaneous spin rotations around two orthogonal axes, making use of spin-nematic squeezing in an atomic Bose-Einstein condensate. Aided by the $F=2$ atomic ground hyperfine manifold coupled to the nematic-squeezed $F=1$ states as an auxiliary field through a sequence of microwave (MW) pulses, simultaneous measurement of multiple spin-1 observables is demonstrated, reaching an enhancement of 3.3 to 6.3 decibels (dB) beyond the classical limit over a wide range of rotation angles. Our work realizes the first enhanced multi-parameter estimation using entangled massive particles as a probe. The techniques developed and the protocols implemented also highlight the application of two-mode squeezed vacuum states in quantum-enhanced sensing of noncommuting spin rotations simultaneously.

In conventional multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communication systems, the positions of antennas are fixed. To take full advantage of spatial degrees of freedom, a new technology called fluid antenna (FA) is proposed to obtain higher achievable rate and diversity gain. Most existing works on FA exploit instantaneous channel state information (CSI). However, in FA-assisted systems, it is difficult to obtain instantaneous CSI since changes in the antenna position will lead to channel variation. In this letter, we investigate a FA-assisted MIMO system using relatively slow-varying statistical CSI. Specifically, in the criterion of rate maximization, we propose an algorithmic framework for transmit precoding and transmit/receive FAs position designs with statistical CSI. Twin-field quantum key distribution (TF-QKD) overcomes the linear rate-loss limit, which promises a boost of secure key rate over long distance. However, the complexity of eliminating the frequency differences between the independent laser sources hinders its practical application. Here, taking the saturated absorption spectroscopy of acetylene as an absolute reference, we propose and demonstrate a simple and practical approach to realize TF-QKD without requiring relative frequency control of the independent laser sources. Adopting the 4-intensity sending-or-not-sending TF-QKD protocol, we experimentally demonstrate the TF-QKD over 502 km, 301 km and 201 km ultra-low loss optical fiber respectively. With qubits encoded into atomic ground and Rydberg states and situated on the vertexes of a graph, the conditional quantum dynamics of Rydberg blockade, which inhibits simultaneous excitation of nearby atoms, has been employed recently to find maximum independent sets following an adiabatic evolution algorithm hereafter denoted by HV [Science 376, 1209 (2022)]. An alternative algorithm, short named the PK algorithm, reveals that the independent sets diffuse over a media graph governed by a non-abelian gauge matrix of an emergent PXP model. This work shows the above two algorithms are mathematically equivalent, despite of their seemingly different physical implementations. More importantly, we demonstrated that although the two are mathematically equivalent, the PK algorithm exhibits more efficient and resource-saving performance. Within the same range of experimental parameters, our numerical studies suggest that the PK algorithm performs at least 25% better on average and saves at least $6\times10^6$ measurements ($\sim 900$ hours of continuous operation) for each graph when compared to the HV algorithm. We further consider the measurement error and point out that this may cause the oscillations in the performance of the HV's optimization process., Comment: 7pages, 6figures

Pound-Drever-Hall (PDH) laser frequency stabilization is a powerful technique widely used for building narrow-linewidth lasers. This technique is however ineffective in suppressing high-frequency (>100~kHz) laser phase noise detrimental for many applications. Here, we introduce an effective method which can greatly enhance its high-frequency performance. The idea is to recycle the residual PDH signal of a laser locked to a cavity, by feedforwarding it directly to the laser output field after a delay fiber. Using this straightforward method, we demonstrate a phase noise suppression capability about 4 orders of magnitude better than just using usual PDH feedback for phase noise around a few MHz. We further find that this method exhibits noise suppression performance equivalent to cavity filtering. The new method holds great promise for applications demanding highly stable lasers with diminished phase noise up to tens of MHz, e.g. precise and high-speed control of atomic and molecular quantum states.

As a new member of the Gravitational wave high-energy Electromagnetic Counterpart All-sky Monitor (GECAM) after GECAM-A and GECAM-B, GECAM-C (originally called HEBS), which was launched on board the SATech-01 satellite on July 27, 2022, aims to monitor and localize X-ray and gamma-ray transients from $\sim$ 6 keV to 6 MeV. GECAM-C utilizes a similar design to GECAM but operates in a more complex orbital environment. In this work, we utilize the secondary particles simultaneously produced by the cosmic-ray events on orbit and recorded by multiple detectors, to calibrate the relative timing accuracy between all detectors of GECAM-C. We find the result is 0.1 $\mu \rm s$, which is the highest time resolution among all GRB detectors ever flown and very helpful in timing analyses such as minimum variable timescale and spectral lags, as well as in time delay localization. Besides, we calibrate the absolute time accuracy using the one-year Crab pulsar data observed by GECAM-C and Fermi/GBM, as well as GECAM-C and GECAM-B. The results are $2.02\pm 2.26\ \mu \rm s$ and $5.82\pm 3.59\ \mu \rm s$, respectively. Finally, we investigate the spectral lag between the different energy bands of Crab pulsar observed by GECAM and GBM, which is $\sim -0.2\ {\rm \mu s\ keV^{-1}}$., Comment: submitted

The study of quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs) and power density spectra (PDS) continuum properties can help shed light on the still illusive emission physics of magnetars and as a window into the interiors of neutron stars using asteroseismology. In this work, we employ a Bayesian method to search for the QPOs in the hundreds of X-ray bursts from SGR J1935+2154 observed by {\it Insight}-HXMT, GECAM and Fermi/GBM from July 2014 to January 2022. Although no definitive QPO signal (significance $>3\sigma$) is detected in individual bursts or the averaged periodogram of the bursts grouped by duration, we identify several bursts exhibiting possible QPO at $\sim$ 40 Hz, which is consistent with that reported in the X-ray burst associated with FRB 200428. We investigate the PDS continuum properties and find that the distribution of the PDS slope in the simple power-law model peaks $\sim$ 2.5, which is consistent with other magnetars but higher than 5/3 commonly seen in gamma-ray bursts. Besides, the distribution of the break frequency in the broken power-law model peaks at $\sim$ 60 Hz. Finally, we report that the power-law index of PDS has an anti-correlation and power-law dependence on the burst duration as well as the minimum variation timescale., Comment: comments welcome

This paper proposes a grant-free massive access scheme based on the millimeter wave (mmWave) extra-large-scale multiple-input multiple-output (XL-MIMO) to support massive Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices with low latency, high data rate, and high localization accuracy in the upcoming sixth-generation (6G) networks. The XL-MIMO consists of multiple antenna subarrays that are widely spaced over the service area to ensure line-of-sight (LoS) transmissions. First, we establish the XL-MIMO-based massive access model considering the near-field spatial non-stationary (SNS) property. Then, by exploiting the block sparsity of subarrays and the SNS property, we propose a structured block orthogonal matching pursuit algorithm for efficient active user detection (AUD) and channel estimation (CE). Furthermore, different sensing matrices are applied in different pilot subcarriers for exploiting the diversity gains. Additionally, a multi-subarray collaborative localization algorithm is designed for localization. In particular, the angle of arrival (AoA) and time difference of arrival (TDoA) of the LoS links between active users and related subarrays are extracted from the estimated XL-MIMO channels, and then the coordinates of active users are acquired by jointly utilizing the AoAs and TDoAs. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithms outperform existing algorithms in terms of AUD and CE performance and can achieve centimeter-level localization accuracy., Comment: To appear in IEEE Transactions on Communications. Discrimination of entangled states is an important element of quantum enhanced metrology. This typically requires low-noise detection technology. Such a challenge can be circumvented by introducing nonlinear readout process. Traditionally, this is realized by reversing the very dynamics that generates the entangled state, which requires a full control over the system evolution. In this work, we present nonlinear readout of highly entangled states by employing reinforcement learning (RL) to manipulate the spin-mixing dynamics in a spin-1 atomic condensate. The RL found results in driving the system towards an unstable fixed point, whereby the (to be sensed) phase perturbation is amplified by the subsequent spin-mixing dynamics. Working with a condensate of 10900 {87}^Rb atoms, we achieve a metrological gain of 6.97 dB beyond the classical precision limit. Our work would open up new possibilities in unlocking the full potential of entanglement caused quantum enhancement in experiments.

The minimum variation timescale (MVT) of soft gamma-ray repeaters can be an important probe to estimate the emission region in pulsar-like models, as well as the Lorentz factor and radius of the possible relativistic jet in gamma-ray burst (GRB)-like models, thus revealing their progenitors and physical mechanisms. In this work, we systematically study the MVTs of hundreds of X-ray bursts (XRBs) from SGR J1935+2154 observed by {\it Insight}-HXMT, GECAM and Fermi/GBM from July 2014 to Jan 2022 through the Bayesian Block algorithm. We find that the MVTs peak at $\sim$ 2 ms, corresponding to a light travel time size of about 600 km, which supports the magnetospheric origin in pulsar-like models. The shock radius and the Lorentz factor of the jet are also constrained in GRB-like models. Interestingly, the MVT of the XRB associated with FRB 200428 is $\sim$ 70 ms, which is longer than that of most bursts and implies its special radiation mechanism. Besides, the median of MVTs is 7 ms, shorter than the median MVTs of 40 ms and 480 ms for short GRBs or long GRBs, respectively. However, the MVT is independent of duration, similar to GRBs. Finally, we investigate the energy dependence of MVT and suggest that there is a marginal evidence for a power-law relationship like GRBs but the rate of variation is at least about an order of magnitude smaller. The notion of spontaneous symmetry breaking has been well established to characterize classical and quantum phase transitions of matter, such as in condensation, crystallization or quantum magnetism. Generalizations of this paradigm to the time dimension can lead to a time crystal phase, which spontaneously breaks the time translation symmetry of the system. Whereas the existence of a continuous time crystal at equilibrium has been challenged by no-go theorems, this difficulty can be circumvented by dissipation in an open system. Here, we report the experimental observation of such dissipative time crystalline order in a room-temperature atomic gas, where ground-state atoms are continuously driven to Rydberg states. The emergent time crystal is revealed by persistent oscillations of the photon transmission, and we show that the observed limit cycles arise from the coexistence and competition between distinct Rydberg components. The nondecaying autocorrelation of the oscillation, together with the robustness against temporal noises, indicate the establishment of true long-range temporal order and demonstrates the realization of a continuous time crystal., Comment: 14 pages, 4+6 figures

The coexistence of quantum and classical light in the same fiber link is extremely desired in developing quantum communication. It has been implemented for different quantum information tasks, such as classical light coexisting with polarization-entangled photons at telecom O-band, and with quantum signal based quantum key distribution (QKD). In this work, we demonstrate the coexistence of energy-time entanglement based QKD and fiber optical communication at the telecom C-band. The property of noise from the classical channel is characterized with classical light at different wavelengths. With the largest noise, i.e., the worst case, the properties of energy-time entanglement are measured at different fiber optical communication rates. By measuring the two-photon interference of energy-time entanglement, our results show that a visibility of 82.01$\pm$1.10\% is achieved with a bidirectional 20 Gbps fiber optical communication over 40 km. Furthermore, by performing the BBM92 protocol for QKD, a secret key rate of 245 bits per second could be generated with a quantum bit error rate of 8.88\% with the coexisted energy-time entanglement.~Our demonstration paves the way for developing the infrastructure for quantum networks compatible with fiber optical communication., Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures

We have performed a spectral-timing analysis on the black hole X-ray binary MAXI J1535--571 during its 2017 outburst, with the aim of exploring the evolution of the inner accretion flow geometry. X-ray reverberation lags are observed in the hard-intermediate state (HIMS) and soft-intermediate state (SIMS) of the outburst. During the HIMS, the characteristic frequency of the reverberation lags $\nu_0$ (the frequency at which the soft lag turns to zero in the lag-frequency spectra) increases when the spectrum softens. This reflects a reduction of the spatial distance between the corona and accretion disc, when assuming the measured time lags are associated with the light travel time. We also find a strong correlation between $\nu_0$ and type-C Quasi Periodic Oscillation (QPO) centroid frequency $\nu_{QPO}$, which can be well explained by the Lense-Thirring (L-T) precession model under a truncated disk geometry. Despite the degeneracy in the spectral modellings, our results suggest that the accretion disc is largely truncated in the low hard state (LHS), and moves inward as the spectrum softens. Combine the spectral modelling results with the $\nu_0$ - $\nu_{QPO}$ evolution, we are inclined to believe that this source probably have a truncated disk geometry in the hard state.

Quantum computation architecture based on $d$-level systems, or qudits, has attracted considerable attention recently due to their enlarged Hilbert space. Extensive theoretical and experimental studies have addressed aspects of algorithms and benchmarking techniques for qudit-based quantum computation and quantum information processing. Here, we report a physical realization of qudit with upto 4 embedded levels in a superconducting transmon, demonstrating high-fidelity initialization, manipulation, and simultaneous multi-level readout. In addition to constructing SU($d$) operations and benchmarking protocols for quantum state tomography, quantum process tomography, and randomized benchmarking etc, we experimentally carry out these operations for $d=3$ and $d=4$. Moreover, we perform prototypical quantum algorithms and observe outcomes consistent with expectations. We propose an efficient nonlinear readout scheme for entangled non-Gaussian spin states (ENGSs) based on the intrinsic quasi-cyclic dynamics of interacting spin-1/2 systems. We focus on two well-known spin models of twist-and-turn (TNT) and two-axis-counter-twisting (TACT), where ENGS can be generated by spin dynamics starting from unstable fixed points. In the TNT model, non-Gaussian probe state evolves directly back to the vicinity of initial state during the subsequent time-forward evolution for path recombining, accompanied by quantum magnification of encoded signal and refocusing of the associated quantum noise. Based on low-order moment measurement, we find the optimal metrological gain nearly saturates the quantum Cramer-Rao bound (QCRB) and follows the Heisenberg scaling. For the TACT case, the QCRB can also be nearly approached when the state converges to either of the two unstable fixed points, respectively corresponding to the initial state or its orthogonal coherent state. The latter case goes beyond previous studies where tracing back to or crossing the initial states is mostly considered. The present protocol does not require time-reversal as in typical nonlinear interferometries, and it also avoids complicated measurement of nonlinear observables or full probability distributions. A superconducting microstrip single-photon detector (SMSPD) generally requires a shunt resistor to avoid latching, caused by its high current-carrying capacity and low kinetic inductance. Here, the effect of the shunt resistor on the behaviors of microbridge SMSPDs was investigated. We analyzed the change in equivalent switching current at different shunt resistances in two ways and determined the operating current range using intrinsic dark count rate (iDCR) curves. We observed that the reduction in shunt resistance can increase the operating current range, which helps to improve the internal detection efficiency (IDE) and reduce the iDCR. However, the reduction in the shunt resistance can reduce the pulse amplitude and increase the pulse decay time, which can degrade the timing jitter and count rate performance of the SMSPD. The trends of the experimental results can be qualitatively reproduced using a circuit model for an SMSPD with a shunt resistor, which provides useful information for the selection of shunt resistors. Furthermore, we report the improved detection performance of a helium-ion-irradiated SMSPD shunted with a small resistance of 5.2 {\Omega}. The effective and convenient detection of single photons via advanced detectors with a large active area is becoming significant for quantum and classical applications. This work demonstrates the fabrication of a superconducting microstrip single-photon detector (SMSPD) with a millimeter-scale active area via the use of ultraviolet (UV) photolithography. The performances of NbN SMSPDs with different active areas and strip widths are characterized. SMSPDs fabricated by UV photolithography and electron beam lithography with small active areas are also compared from the aspects of the switching current density and line edge roughness. Furthermore, an SMSPD with an active area of 1 mm * 1 mm is obtained via UV photolithography, and during operation at 0.85 K, it exhibits near-saturated internal detection efficiency at wavelengths up to 800 nm. At a wavelength of 1550 nm, the detector exhibits a system detection efficiency of ~5% (7%) and a timing jitter of 102 (144) ps, when illuminated with a light spot of ~18 (600) um in diameter, respectively., Comment: 13 pages, 5 figures, 1 table
