In this study, experimental and numerical methods were applied to estimate surge and sway wave drift forces and yaw drift moment acting on KVLCC2, advancing in oblique wave. An experiment was carried out in the ocean engineering basin of the Korea Research Institute of Ships and Ocean Engineering (KRISO). A series of regular wave tests under various heading conditions were conducted to investigate ship motion responses and wave drift forces. A Rankine panel method based on potential flow was adopted in the numerical analysis, and the direct pressure integration method that integrates second-order pressure on the hull surface was applied to compute wave drift force. Through this study, validation data of wave drift force acting on KVLCC2 was established, and the computation capability of the potential-based numerical method was systematically analyzed.

A series of experiments were carried out to investigate the performance of a WEC rotor with platform motion. To achieve platform motion, a forced motion device with a rotor was installed in the Ocean Engineering Basin. In this study, the rotor’s performance was examined at various phase stages between incoming waves at three wave heights, and compared to a rotor without a PTO system. The phase stage where the rotor exhibited the largest pitch motion was identified, and the efficiencies of the rotor with the PTO system were analyzed during this stage. Without the PTO system, the rotor experienced its largest pitch motion when the rotating center was positioned at the zero-up crossing point of the incoming waves at three different wave heights. Furthermore, it was observed that in the optimal phase, the rotor’s efficiency increased with relatively large platform motion. These findings provide fundamental data for rotor design.

Offshore wind farms on the east offshore of Korea to produce multi-GW power from floating wind platforms are being planned. The objectives of the present study are to develop a new TLP-type floating wind platform with a 15 MW turbine for the planned site and to confirm the feasibility of the TLP design under extreme typhoon environments. The concept design of the 15 MW TLP floating platform was completed for installation at a water depth of 137 m. The platform was vertically moored with highly pretensioned wire rope tendons. The platform and tendons were designed to withstand extreme conditions for up to 50 years. Additionally, a platform with an integrated turbine was designed to be wet-towable from the quayside without dedicated vessels to minimize the pre-service cost and risk. An extreme response analysis was conducted to evaluate the platform motion, acceleration, airgap and tendon tension for wave variation, intact and damaged condition of the tendon, environment heading change, and water level variation. The platform design results were validated using the design criteria from the industry standards and recommendations, and the design was verified to comply with the design requirements for the planned sites.

Simple Summary: This study examined the link between metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and kidney cancer risk. Over 8.8 million participants (aged 20–79) were followed for a median of 13.3 years. The study found that participants with MASLD and those with MASLD plus increased alcohol intake (MetALD) had a significantly higher risk of developing kidney cancer compared to those without MASLD. The risk was especially elevated in younger patients. A cumulative relationship between metabolic dysfunction and kidney cancer risk was also observed. The findings highlight the need for a comprehensive approach to metabolic health, particularly focusing on younger individuals. Background: This study investigated the association between metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and Kidney Cancer Risk, as the incidence of both diseases gradually increases owing to metabolic health issues. Methods: Participants (aged 20–79) undergoing a national health examination between 2009 and 2010 were monitored for new-onset kidney cancer. The MASLD spectrum was classified as non-MASLD, MASLD, or MASLD with increased alcohol uptake (MetALD). Kidney Cancer Risk associated with the MASLD spectrum was estimated using multivariate Cox proportional hazard models. Age- and sex-stratified analyses were also performed. Results: Among 8,829,510 participants (median follow-up 13.3 years), the proportion of non-MASLD, MASLD, and MetALD was 64.9%, 30.3%, and 4.7%, respectively, with newly developed kidney cancer in 17,555 participants. Kidney cancer was significantly increased with MASLD (adjusted hazard ratio [aHR] 1.51, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.46–1.56) and MetALD (aHR 1.51, 95% CI 1.42–1.61), compared with the non-MASLD group. Kidney Cancer Risk was the highest among young populations (aHR 1.93, 95% CI 1.77–2.11 for MASLD and aHR 1.91, 95% CI 1.65–2.22 for MetALD), according to stratification analysis. Furthermore, the cumulative relationship between metabolic dysfunction and Kidney Cancer Risk was confirmed across all MASLD spectra. Conclusions: Our study highlights the positive association between MASLD and Kidney Cancer Risk, emphasizing a comprehensive approach to metabolic health. Objective: This study examined the relationship between precarious employment (PE) and mental well‐being, focusing on age‐specific interactions. Methods: Nationally representative Korean workers (N = 29,961) were surveyed between 2020 and 2021 to collect data on multidimensional PE (categorized as low, moderate, or high) and the WHO‐5 well‐being index. Workers' ages were classified as young (<35 years), middle‐aged (35–54 years), and older (≥55 years). Logistic regression was performed to estimate the odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). The interaction between PE and age on well‐being was examined by including interaction terms in the regression models. Results: The prevalence of poor well‐being was 25%, 29%, and 39% for low, moderate, and high precariousness, respectively, whereas it was 26%, 30%, and 39% for young, middle‐aged, and older workers, respectively. In the overall sample, the OR (95% CI) of the association between PE and poor well‐being was 1.24 (1.17–1.32) for moderate and 1.54 (1.43–1.65) for high precariousness, compared with low precariousness. There was a significant interaction between old age and PE on the odds of poor well‐being. Compared with young workers with low PE, middle‐aged workers with high PE (OR: 1.85, 95% CI: 1.62–2.10) and older workers with high PE (OR: 2.10, 95% CI: 1.83–2.40) exhibited increased odds of having poor mental well‐being. Conclusion: PE serves as a social determinant of older workers' psychological well‐being. Policy interventions are required to protect older workers' psychological well‐being.
