A digital healthcare system based on augmented reality (AR) has promising uses for postoperative rehabilitation. We compared effectiveness of AR-based and conventional rehabilitation in patients after rotator cuff repair (RCR). This study randomly allocated 115 participants who underwent RCR to digital healthcare rehabilitation group (DR group) and conventional rehabilitation group (CR group). The DR group performed AR-based home exercises using UINCARE Home+, whereas the CR group performed brochure-based home exercises. The primary outcome was a change in the Simple Shoulder Test (SST) score between baseline and 12 weeks postoperatively. The secondary outcomes were the Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand (DASH) score; Shoulder Pain And Disability Index (SPADI) score; EuroQoL 5-Dimension 5-Level (EQ5D5L) questionnaire score; pain; range of motion (ROM); muscle strength; and handgrip strength. The outcomes were measured at baseline, and at 6, 12, and 24 weeks postoperatively. The change in SST score between baseline and 12 weeks postoperatively was significantly greater in the DR group than in the CR group (p = 0.025). The SPADI, DASH, and EQ5D5L scores demonstrated group \(\times\) time interactions (p = 0.001, = 0.04, and = 0.016, respectively). However, no significant differences over time were observed between the groups in terms of pain, ROM, muscle strength, and handgrip strength. PurposeThe purpose of the present study was to evaluate the effect of air mattress pressure on sleep quality.Design/methodology/approachTen young healthy males participated in all hard surface [AH], shoulder soft [SS] and shoulder and hip soft mattress [SHS] conditions. The surface pressure for SS and SHS were set at their preferred levels.FindingsThe results showed that sleep efficiencies were over 95% for all the three conditions; there were no significant differences in individual sleep variables among the three conditions, but overall sleep quality was better for SS than AH (p = 0.065); heart rates during sleep was greater for AH than the other two conditions (p Research limitations/implicationsThese results indicated that the both pressure relief air mattresses that were set at their own preferred levels provided high quality sleep with no marked differences.Practical implicationsAir pressure relief mattresses can improve sleep quality of healthy individuals during sleep at night. The results can be used to understand appropriate pressure distribution on surface mattress according to body region, and also to develop algorithms to provide optimum sleep using mattresses with surface pressure control by body region.Originality/valueThe present study found that the shoulder and/or hip pressure relief air mattresses that were set at their own preferred levels provided high quality sleep with no marked differences.

The purpose of the present field study was to explore diving patterns and heart rate of elderly Korean women divers (haenyeo) while breath-hold diving in cold seawater. We hypothesized that the decreasing rate in heart rate of elderly haenyeos during breath-hold diving was greater and total diving time was shorter than those of young haenyeos from previous studies. Nine haenyeos participated in a field study [68 ± 10 yr in age, ranged from 56 to 83 yr] at a seawater temperature of 10 to 13 °C. Average total diving time including surface swimming time between dives was 253 ± 73 min (155–341 min). Total frequency of dives was 97 ± 28 times and they dived 23 ± 8 times per hour. All haenyeos showed diving bradycardia with a decreased rate of 20 ± 8% at the bottom time (101 ± 20 bpm) when compared to surface swimming time (125 ± 16 bpm) in the sea. This study investigates the conditions of Korean naval duty and combat uniforms to develop a new design.Survey participants consisted of, 723 Sailors (25.3±6.9yr in age, 43±53 months in work experience, 174±6cm in height,71±9kg in body mass) serving in the Korean Navy for over 12 months. The questionnaire consisted of 72 questions aboutanthropometric characteristics, preferred design, textiles, wear mobility, and subjective perceptions. The results showedthat the preferred colors for future naval duty uniforms were blue in summer (69%) and black in winter (62%). Digitalcamouflage pattern (60%) and darker colors on the inside of shirt collar (87%) and the edge of sleeves (84%) were pre-ferred. They favored more than one pocket on the upper arm and chest of the shirts (58%), narrower width around pantlegs and hems than the current clothing (63%), self-controlled elastic waist (55%) and no cargo type pocket on the pants(45%). There were requirements to alleviate excessive heat stress in summer and to protect from the cold and wind inwinter. Wrinkle-free (85%), anti-bacterial (78%), water-proof (75%), oil-proof (90%), and elastic (67%) textiles were pre-ferred for Korean navy uniforms. This study's goal was to obtain basic data about the functional gowns of health care providers. 828 health care providers, including 150 doctors, 224 dentists, 202 nurses, 61 physical therapists and 191 medical technicians, living in Seoul and Daejeon areas, participated in this survey. A questionnaire was created using 15 items about the current health care providers' gowns. 15 items were consisted of 3 parts; satisfaction rate and activity (part 1), preference the details of medical gown (part 2), and personal information (part 3). In this study, "wearer activity" was the main concern for them and the majority of respondents, regardless of their age and type of work, preferred the V neckline, short gown length (waist line), loose sleeves and anti-bacterial textiles. Only the doctors preferred the full sleeves, whereas, the others pre- ferred short sleeves. The younger health care providers showed a slightly higher preference for the slim type gown, while the older providers preferred the straight type. In this study, most health care providers were not satisfied with their cur- rent gowns, except dentists. Physical therapist answered the highest score of dissatisfied for current wearing medical gown among the all health care professionals. The 20's answered the highest score of dissatisfaction among the all gen- eration.

This study was to develop the flame retardant (FR) protective clothing which had multifunction such anti-bacterial, UV cut, FR function with water repellent and water vapor permeable laminating textiles for industrial workers. First of all, the FR yarn and FR textiles were developed for this purpose. Second, the comparison analysis between the halogen laminating textiles and halogen-free laminating textiles were tested to figure out the eco-friendly laminating method. Third, the flame retardant ability was compared the halogen laminated textiles to halogen-free laminated textiles. LOI, UV protection ratio, antibiosis after 50 laundry test, water proof pressure, and moisture permeability of developed textiles were tested. GC-HR-TOF-MS was used for analysis of laminating film (halogen and halogen-free). 4.1 wt% TiO2 yarn showed antibacterial function (Pneumococcus & Staphylococcus aureus: 99.9%), UV Protection (UVA: 90.8, UVB: 92.1), and LOI (33.6). The chosen optimal compounding ratio for PU compound of HRF and HFFR were as followed: PU resin 58.3%, DMF (Dimethyl formamide, δ = 12.2) 8.3%, MEK (Methylethylketone) 8.3% and FR (flame retardants) 25.0%. Binder for laminating should not be included over 10% of FRs because of adhesion between textiles and FR laminating film. There were detected phosphorus compounds in the textiles treated by halogenated type flame retardants and halogenated-free type flame retardants. There were not any detected harmful compounds from all textile samples.

Brominated flame retardants (BFRs) have been widely used as additives or as chemical reactants in polymers and textiles. The aim of this study was to develop methods for the analysis of synthesized polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in textiles. Analytical methods for the determination of PBDEs in textile samples were performed, including gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS), thermal desorption (TD)-GC/MS, and high-resolution gas chromatography/high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRGC/HRMS). The experiments consisted of three different sub-experiments that centered on detecting the presence of deca-BDE in textiles by (1) GC/MS, (2) TD-GC/MS, and by (3) target molecule analysis of 27 PBDE congeners by HRGC/HRMS. Results indicated that deca-BDE detection by TD-GCMS was the most precise methodology and did not require extraction or cleanup procedures. The analyses of the 27 PBDE congeners were used for the HRGC-isotope dilution HRMS by EPA method 1614. TD-GC/MS with pyrolysis was the most effective method for monitoring of deca-BDE in textiles because of its simplicity. HRGC/HRMS analysis was the most appropriate method for determination of low concentrations of deca-BDE in textiles compared with the other analytical methods. GC/MS analysis may also be used but high-concentration samples are needed for detection. BDE-28, -66, -100, -119, -153, -197, -206, and -209 were detected in all textile samples by the HRGC/HRMS method, of which the concentration of BDE-209 was the highest. BDE-3, -7, -47, -49, -71, -99, -126, and -156 were not detected in any textile samples.

This study was to investigate the distribution of the garment pressure in daily wearing and in ordinary posture. Ninety-nine college women students majoring the fashion were participated for this study. IBP questionnaire, garment pressure, personal preferring pressure sensations(questionnaire), and subjective garment pressure sensations were measured. There were no significant differences between the data of 2003 and those of 2005. Participants preferred T-shirts and jeans and also preferred slightly fitted style to the loose style. They were classified with the high garment pressure group and the low garment pressure group. Garment pressure from lower garments were usually higher in the high garment pressure group than in the low garment pressure group. There was no significant differences in the upper garments weights between two groups. This study was to develope the pesticide-proof clothes(PPC) for fruit-grower which has been well known over applied agricultural chemicals. The ergonomic evaluation of PPC were tested in two ways. Male adults volunteered the tests to evaluate the safety to pesticide in the field and the thermal comforts in the climate-chamber(, 60%R.H.). PPC were made of 4 different fabrics. Two of them were on the market(coated non-woven and coated nylon). Others were water-repellent treatment and coated waterproof film by developed polyester. The field study was conducted for farmers growing apples to evaluate pesticide exposure. In this experiment, we collected data with patch test on the head, chest, back, right upperarm, right forearm, left thigh and left calf. From the results, the developed PPC showed the more excellent comfort than an existing PPC with nylon coated polyurethane. But the developed PPC of water-repellent fabric was penetrated into the PPC. Therefore, we designed the functional pesticide-proof clothes of 2 different developed polyester fabrics(water-repellent treatment in chest, abdomen, the lower of back, waist, and calf; coated waterproof film in head, shoulder, the upper of back, the crotch, hip, upper arm and thigh).

This study was to research the characteristics of the body shape of Korean woman farmers by the major crops. Four hundred ninety-five Korean woman farmers from 9 different area such as Kumi, Damyang, Iksan, Injae, Chungju, Choongju, Haman, Whasung, and Whasoon volunteered for this study. Their major crops were the rice, the pepper, the water melon, the strawberry, the wild rocambole, the sweet persimmon, the grapes, the mushroom, and the chrysanthemums. Twelve body angles were measured from archived the somatotype photographs of the front, the side, and the back. Questionnaires of SF-36 and the farmer`s symptom, and the farm-work related movements were surveyed. The results were as follows; 1. Farmers had lower health levels in physical role limit, pain, vitality, and physical function than other occupational workers. 2. Most farmers acted the high-risk ergonomics motions when they worked in the farm. 3. This study was to decided the proper garment pressure level on the human body parts. Six volunteers (female: 30-40years) put on the same types of bands, a brief, and a non-woven gown. Garment pressure was measured in regular order with the elastic band on the human body parts such as the upper arm, the waist, the thigh, and the calf. At the same time, physiological responses such as the skin blood flow rate on 2 fingers, 7 different skin temperatures, rectal temperature, heat rates, and subjective responses about the pressure sensation, thermal sensation, and humidity sensation were measured and inquired. The precaution to spray with agricultural chemicals is very important, in particular personal protective equipment against pesticide in order to protect farmers# pesticide poisoning. The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has proclaimed the announcement of pesticide proof clothing(PPC) in 1983, and revised it in 1987. The announcement had many performance items to achieve the high-quality protective clothing for pesticide including weight, density, force strength, dimensional change(in washing and drying), fastness(dyeing, washing, sweating and rubbing) and water resistance of clothes. Announcement of the PPC has better durability and penetration resistance function than former days, but the plenty of farmers didn#t wear it because of the intolerable heat. To increase wearing rates, the pesticide proof clothing must be estimated the water-vapour resistance. From the results, the developed PPC with polyester treated water-repellent showed the more excellent comfort than an existing PPC with nylon coated polyurethane. But the developed PPC appeared to have the low water-vapour resistance. Therefore, it is suggested that the property of pesticide penetration must be evaluated through the field test in the future study.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the components contributions of personal protective equipment on physiological strain in firefighters during exercise and recovery. Eight firefighters participated in trials in which various combinations of personal protective equipment components weighing from 1.3 to 15.1 kg were worn. The results showed that rectal temperature, changes in rectal temperature, mean skin temperature, heart rate, oxygen consumption and blood lactate concentration were smaller in conditions without boots (no-boots) than in other conditions with no helmet, gloves or self-contained breathing apparatus (P0.05). Increases in rectal temperature per unit mass of personal protective equipment were approximately twice as small in no-boots condition as the other conditions. These results suggest that the reduction of the boots' mass might be more efficient to alleviate heat strain of firefighters wearing personal protective equipment, rather than the reduction of the mass of self-contained breathing apparatus, helmet or gloves.As firefighters’ protective boots induce greater physiological burden when compared with a helmet, gloves or self-contained breathing apparatus, personal protective equipment designers need to consider the improvement of boots in terms of mass reduction, improvement of thermal comfort and ease of doffing during recovery to alleviate physiological strain on firefighters.

This study investigated the thermal insulation of an air-cell pack embedded jacket and down jackets tounderstand the potential of air-cell pack as a filler for winter outdoor wear. A thermal manikin measuredthe thermal insulation of the following jackets: HD (heavy down jacket, total weight (Tw) 750g, goosedown weight (Dw) 350g), LD (light down jacket, Tw 560g, Dw 140g), AF (air-cell pack embedded jacket,Tw 490g, trunk goose down in LD was replaced to air cell), F (film jacket, Tw 469g, but removed the airin the air-cell pack from the AF), and Control (control jacket, Tw 438g, removed the air-cell pack film fromthe F). Thermal insulations of each experimental condition were measured in a static standing posture. To-tal thermal insulations (IT) were 1.29clo (HD), 1.23clo (LD), 1.16clo (AF), 1.20clo (F), and 1.08clo (Con-trol). Body regional thermal insulation was higher in the chest and back than in the abdomen and hip in allconditions. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the influences of partial components of firefighters’ personal protective equipment (PPE) on subjective perception during exercise and recovery at 28°C, 40% RH. Eight firefighters participated in eight conditions consisting of various combinations of PPE components weighing from 7.8 to 14.9 kg (fully equipped with all PPE, FullPPE; FullPPE without a self-contained breathing apparatus, NoSCBA; FullPPE without a helmet, NoHelmet; FullPPE without gloves, NoGloves; FullPPE without boots, NoBoots; Full PPE without bunker jacket or pants, NoJP; Not equipped with a helmet, gloves, boots, or breathing apparatus, NoHGBS and Control (1.1 kg; wearing shorts, long-sleeved shirts and long pants)). The results showed: 1) Alleviation of subjectively perceived strain was significantly greater in NoJP during both exercise and recovery than NoHelmet and Nogloves, while the NoJP showed no significant difference with NoBoots and NoHGBS. 2) NoBoots was significantly effective in relieving physiological thermal burden rather than in psychological strain. 3) Exposing the hands and feet affected the local thermal sensation and sweat sensation of the hands and feet, respectively, while exposing the head did not affect local head thermal sensation and sweat sensation. 4) The relationship between clothing microclimate humidity and sweat sensation showed a logarithmic function. The present study indicate that weight loss in boots alleviated physiological strain during exercise, whereas after exercise, doffing jacket and taking off gloves, boots, and helmet simultaneously were both most effective way to relieve thermal strain quickly.
