5. Evaluation of Flexural Behavior of Prestressed Concrete (PSC) Hollow-Core Slabs (HCSs).

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the flexural behavior characteristics of prestressed concrete hollow-core slabs (HCSs) through bending experiments. Six specimens were used as variables, both with and without reinforced concrete, in the HCS. A four-point load was applied in the form of a simple support beam to assess the flexural behavior and ultimate strength of HCS. The results demonstrate that, compared to non-reinforced specimens, the reinforced HCS exhibited higher maximum loads and better ductility performance. The experimental outcomes demonstrate that HCS showed an average of 10% higher capacity than the maximum load of the concrete structure standards (KDS 14 20 20, ACI 318-19, and PCI handbook), with or without reinforced concrete, leading to relatively safe predictions. This study's experimental findings are anticipated to aid in evaluating structural safety in a relatively secure way. The findings indicate that the HCS structural system is excellent at sustaining the weight of a structure and ensuring its safety. Abstract

Ultra-High Definition Television (U-HDTV) promises to offer a strong sense of reality to viewers by utilizing extremely high spatial and temporal resolution. In order to compress U-HDTV video sequences in a practical way, the video sequence is divided into sub-sequences and each sub-sequence is processed. However, the merged sequence of independently decoded sub-sequences inherently exhibits a distortion along the boundary of the sub-sequences, namely sub-sequence boundary distortion (SBD). In this paper, we first introduce a method to quantitatively measure the SBD. Then, we propose a post-processing algorithm that reduces the SBD. Experimental results indicate that the SBD is efficiently alleviated by the proposed post-processing algorithm. Abstract

The relative contributions of overland-flow and stream-flow to the response process at the basin scale are evaluated in the present study. The moments of GIUH models were applied to the data of the Bocheong watershed in the Geum river basin in Korea in order to discuss the feasibility. The GIUH model derived in this study consists of the stream path and overland region. The characteristic velocities for the flows between two cases mentioned above make a clear distinction as expected and would have more physical meaning than the ones of the model by Rodriguez-Iturbe and Valdes(1979). The path lengths of overland for each stream order are nearly constant, whereas the case of stream is shown to grow larger according to the basin sizes. As a result, the overall basin response process was founded out to be greatly under the influence of the hydrodynamic behavior of overland, and its behavior is suggested to be further researched for catching the broader meanings.

Abstract

Multilayer graphene (MLG)/ITO transparent n-electrodes for high-efficiency III-nitride light-emitting diodes (LEDs) were fabricated. MLG was grown on Ni/SiO2/Si substrates using a chemical vapor deposition method and transferred to the ITO transparent n-electrodes of the LEDs. The properties were analyzed by electroluminescence measurements, Raman spectroscopy, and radiant intensity-current testing. The external quantum efficiency (EQE) was enhanced greatly by the MLG/ITO dual layers as transparent n-electrodes in LEDs. The EQE and radiant intensity at an injection current of 200 mA of the LEDs with the MLG/ITO transparent n-electrodes were improved by 33 and 32%, respectively, which was attributed to the improved light extraction through the transparent ITO n-electrodes as well as the enhanced current spreading by the MLG on the ITO layer. The high transmittance and outstanding current spreading of the MLG/ITO transparent n-electrodes have great potential for advanced transparent conducting n-electrodes in optoelectronic devices. Abstract

Animation characters are created to embody distinctive personalities and body images; however, these features have not been analyzed with objective measures based on East Asian theory. The purpose of this study was to analyze the biopsychological features of seven animation characters in Pororo the Little Penguin, which scored unprecedented success in Korea, with clinically validated and standardized measures of Sasang typology.
