This study is the first to research to report the complete 16,496 bp mitochondrial genome of Micropogonias furnieri, which consists of 13 protein-coding genes, two ribosomal RNA genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, and a control region (D-loop). The overall base composition of the complete genome is 27.26% A, 25.65% T, 16.46% G, and 30.63% C, with a high A + T content of 52.91%. Phylogenetic analysis showed that M. furnieri was most closely related to Sciaenops ocellatus. In this study, the mitogenome of M. furnieri will provide useful information for phylogenetic and evolutionary understanding in the family Sciaenidae.

Photo-realistic representation in user-specified view and lighting conditions is a challenging but high-demand technology in the digital transformation of cultural heritages. Despite recent advances in neural renderings, it is still necessary to capture high-quality surface reflectance from photography in a controlled environment for real-time applications such as VR/AR and digital arts. In this paper, we present a deep embedding clustering network for spatially-varying bidirectional reflectance distribution function (SVBRDF) estimation. Our network is designed to simultaneously update the reflectance basis and its linear manifold in the spatial domain of SVBRDF. We show that our dual update scheme excels in optimizing the rendering loss in terms of the convergence speed and visual quality compared to the current iterative SVBRDF update methods.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Chionoecetes japonicus was sequenced using a specimen collected offshore in the East Sea. The genome includes 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, two ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes, and a control region (D-loop), with a total length of 16,060 bp. The overall nucleotide composition was 34.91% A, 17.29% C, 10.93% G, and 36.87% T, with 71.78% A + T. In the phylogenetic tree was constructed using maximum-likelihood and Bayesian inference analyses, C. japonicus and C. japonicus pacificus formed a genetic clade that was sister to C. opilio.

SUMMARYWe establish an efficient minimum-time cooperative task planning algorithm for robots and operators to serve clients. This problem is an extension of the multiple traveling salesman problem and the vehicle routing problem with synchronization constraints, but it is more difficult due to the cooperative tasks of the robots and operators. To find the exact minimum-time task plan with a small tree size, we propose an efficient branch-and-bound with a good initial tree and keen complementary heuristics. Our algorithm is also effective as an approximate algorithm for the many clients problem within the capacity of the computer used. The efficiency of our algorithm is revealed via case studies: telemedical service robots and planetary exploration robots.

A modified 1D-virtual force field (1D-VFF) approach is newly proposed to effectively avoid moving obstacles for autonomous ground vehicle (AGV) applications. The underlying idea of this approach is to construct an obstacle force field based on the predicted trajectory of a moving obstacle. To do this, the time-to-collision and the probable area of collision are estimated using the obstacle position and velocity information measured from a FMCW radar. The predicted obstacle force field (POFF) replaces the obstacle force field (OFF) of the conventional 1D-VFF to enhance the AGV’s obstacle avoidance performance. As in the conventional 1D-VFF scheme, the steering force field (SFF) is generated by using the prescribed position of the goal and the current position of the ground vehicle. In order to ensure a collision-free local path against the moving obstacle, the steering command is determined as the maximizing solution of the integrated force field (IFF) defined by a linear combination of POFF and SFF. Simulations of various scenarios show that the proposed algorithm provides an improved local path planning performance against moving obstacles compared to the existing 1D-VFF methodology.

The Bidirectional Texture Function (BTF) has been used in the data-driven model to recover the reflectance of complex surfaces. The high-dimensionality of the BTF causes huge measurement data, but that needs to be compressed when real-time rendering is required. However, the distribution of BTF data is highly non-uniform due to non-lambertian reflections. Projecting the measured data onto a linear space constructed by a statistical analysis such as PCA results in low-quality of data compression. In this paper, we propose a computationally efficient and robust data compression method. Based on the assumption that there exist many overlapping measurements, we seek to find reflectance holes caused by the non-lambertian reflection with a series of linear algorithms. Before performing the standard compression, our method separates diffuse reflections which can be well approximated with a linear model and compress them using a standard factorization. Specular components detected in the reflectance hole are separately stored using a sparse matrix representation to prevent the loss of the range of BTF data. Experimental results show that our method effectively improves the compression accuracy as well as the visual quality with a competitive computation time.

The Yangyang iron oxide-apatite deposit in South Korea has gone through multiple events for igneous activity, structural evolution, hydrothermal alteration, and mineralization. Trioctahedral mica is indicative of potassic alteration in the Yangyang IOA deposit and its mineral chemistry is quite variable. The variability can be described in terms of biotite colors and short wavelength infrared (SWIR) reflectance spectra. Brown to greenish brown biotite displays lower values of Mg# (0.48–0.58) than green biotite (0.62–0.78), whereas colorless phlogopite related to Fe–P mineralization has the highest values of Mg# (0.85–0.95). To compare Mg# values with the positions and intensities of absorption in the trioctahedral micas, we used three types of spectrum: reflectance, hull quotient, and Gaussian. Brown biotite produces a short Mg–OH peak near 2340 nm, green biotite has a peak near 2330 nm, and colorless phlogopite displays an absorption peak near 2310 nm. These positional variations are consistent with compositional changes. A mica alteration index (MAI) represents the ratio of Fe–OH and Mg–OH peak absorption intensities for trioctahedral micas. From brown to green biotite and colorless phlogopite, the MAI values gradually increase with decreasing Fe–OH intensity. Correlation coefficients for plots of Mg–OH absorption values vs. Mg# vary from 0.89 for the reflectance method, to 0.93 for the hull quotient method, and 0.93 for the Gaussian method, and for plots of MAI vs. Mg# they vary from 0.91 for the reflectance method, to 0.92 for the hull quotient method, and 0.92 for the Gaussian method. Analyses using our new SWIR spectroscopic methods confirm that the abundance of indicator minerals and the Fe:Mg ratios in trioctahedral micas vary systematically as a function of hydrothermal fluid chemistry and mineral composition within the altered lithologies. SWIR spectroscopy of trioctahedral micas could provide a useful tool for mapping vectors of alteration in the Yangyang IOA system.

With the emergence of smart LEDs, lighting based interior design is becoming popular. However, most of the smart LED-based lighting systems rely on expert-human intervention to create a desired atmosphere. For convenience, commercial lighting systems offer a number of options but their usability is fairly restricted. Therefore, an intuitive interface is required for novice users to generate the desired lighting environment. In this paper, we have developed a software, named MudGet, which automatically extracts the light mood from a digital image and controls the LED lamps to reproduce a desired lighting effect according to the extracted light mood. In our method, the light mood is regarded as a set of the representative colors of the digital image. The representative colors are extracted by utilizing K-means clustering algorithm. The dimming parameters are set for which each of the LED lamps create the lighting environment with the mood extracted by the software. To evaluate the feasibility of mood reproduction qualitatively, the degree of similarity between the light mood in the digital image and the reproduced result using LEDs is evaluated by a user study under a miniaturized experimental set. We observe that users can easily produce a desired atmosphere through the proposed MudGet software. Highlights An image based lighting design interface is proposed. The aim of this meta-analysis was to determine whether pulsatile perfusion during cardiac surgery has a lesser effect on renal dysfunction than nonpulsatile perfusion after cardiac surgery in randomized controlled trials. MEDLINE, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials were used to identify available articles published before April 25, 2014. Meta-analysis was conducted to determine the effects of pulsatile perfusion on postoperative renal functions, as determined by creatinine clearance (CrCl), serum creatinine (Cr), urinary neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL), and the incidences of acute renal insufficiency (ARI) and acute renal failure (ARF). Nine studies involving 674 patients that received pulsatile perfusion and 698 patients that received nonpulsatile perfusion during cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) were considered in the meta-analysis. Stratified analysis was performed according to effective pulsatility or unclear pulsatility of the pulsatile perfusion method in the presence of heterogeneity. NGAL levels were not significantly different between the pulsatile and nonpulsatile groups. In the moving target problem, the velocity information of the moving target is very important as well as the high accuracy position information. To solve this problem, active researches are being conducted recently with combine the Time Difference of Arrival (TDOA) and Frequency Delay of Arrival(FDOA) measurements. However, since the FDOA measurement is utilizing the Doppler effect due to the relative velocity between the target source and the receiver sensor, it may be difficult to use the FDOA measurement if the moving target speed is not sufficiently fast. In this paper, we propose a method for estimating the position and the velocities of the target by using only the TDOA measurements for the low speed moving target in the indoor environment with sensor network. First, the target position and heading angle are obtained from the estimated positions of two attached transmitters on the target. Then, the target angular and linear velocities are also estimated. In addtion, we apply the Instrumental Variable (IV) technique to compensate the estimation error of the estimated target velocity. In simulation, the performance of the proposed algorithm is verified.

In this paper, a modified path planning method based on the APF (artificial potential field) is proposed for the mobile robot navigation system. The path planning method is very important to the robot navigation system. The APF is a commonly used path planning method because of its advantages of simple processing and online realization in the unknown environment. However, the T-APF (traditional-APF) has shortcomings such as local minima and path inefficiency problems. To overcome these drawbacks, the NP-APF (new point-APF) is proposed. NP-APF is a specialized method for using the LiDAR. The key idea of the NP-APF is that it creates the new point of the attractive force what can improve performance of the APF by solving its drawbacks. The new point is created when the obstacles block a path which makes straight-line from the mobile robot to the goal, and it helps the mobile robot overcome local minima and path inefficiency problems. The new point is created at the most reasonable place where no obstacle is detected by the LiDAR. The simulation results show the improvement of performance compared with the T-APF.

Various vision-based measurement systems have been developed to reconstruct the 3D shape and appearance of an object. To achieve this, a large number of the samples need to be captured. However, most of the existing measurement system requires a long acquisition time because of system complexity. Although some systems present effective acquisition strategy in the adaptive manner, they focus on only 2D planar samples so that they cannot handle complex 3D object and its reflectance property. In this paper, we present the multi-camera and multi-light source based measurement system that capture the 3D geometry and appearance simultaneously. We also proposed a novel curvature-aware acquisition strategy for reducing the acquisition time and data storage requirement. Since the proposed method can efficiently capture the appearance of 3D objects with complicated shape, expect to progress the digitization in the various field such as museum and industry.
