The glass fiber reinforcement of the tensile part of a glulam beam is known to increase its short-term bending performance. Under variable climatic conditions, improvements in short-term bending performance are anticipated to improve long-term creep performance. In this study, the creep behavior of glulam beams reinforced with glass fibers and unreinforced glulam beams was investigated for 18240 hours under uncontrolled variable climatic conditions. Depending on the presence or absence of reinforcement and the type of reinforcement, several aspects of the creep behavior of glulam beams could be observed. Through the glass fiber reinforcement of the glulam beam, it was possible to lower the amount of the creep variation as well as the overall creep strain after 18240 hours. Specifically, the glass fiber reinforced plastic reinforcement sheet caused the glulam beam to exhibit a consistent creep behavior regardless of the stress level. This improved the predictability of long-term creep deformation under variable and uncontrolled climatic conditions.

A study was conducted on the reinforcement of cross-laminated timber (CLT) concrete composite floors with carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) to improve its mechanical performance and reliability in wood composite structures. A four-point bending test evaluation was completed on three types of cross-laminated timber concrete composite floors produced with different carbon fiber reinforced plastic reinforcement ratios (33%, 66%, and 100%) on the entire surface of the tensile portion. An increase in the carbon fiber reinforced plastic reinforcement ratio of the composite floors led to an increased bending capacity and a slightly improved yield performance. In the case of a composite floor with a reinforcement ratio of 33%, premature failure occurred in the elastic region due to defects of the CLT such as knots and slopes of the grain. Failure mode analysis revealed that tensile and shear failure coexist when the composite floor has a CFRP reinforcement ratio of 33%. In contrast, reinforcement ratios of 66% and 100% prevented premature failures in the elastic region caused by defects and induced a consistent failure mode. These reinforcement effects reduced the variability in the increased bending capacity of the composite floors and improved the accuracy of the theoretical prediction design via the γ-method. Meanwhile, the shear connections between the cross-laminated timber and concrete via epoxy adhesive exhibited full-composite behavior without being affected by the reinforcement ratio.

Bending strength tests were conducted of cross-laminated timber (CLT)-concrete composite slabs according to the shear connection method and carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) reinforcement. The bending strength of the composite slab that was shear-connected with an epoxy adhesive was 17% higher than that of a composite slab that was shear-connected with a self-tapping screw. In addition, the CLT-concrete slip of the former composite slab was also measured as 20% lower than the latter under the same load, showing a behavior close to that of a full composite. Both shear connection methods generated a failure in a low load-deformation section when there was a defect in the outermost tensile laminae of the CLT. In contrast, the CFRP reinforcement in the tension part of the composite slab suppressed the failure at the defect in the outermost tensile laminae. This reinforcement effect increased the reliability of the bending performance of the composite slab by preventing the failure of the composite slab while in a constant failure mode. Furthermore, the slip of the composite slab decreased 49% after its reinforcement with CFRP, showing a behavior close to that of a full composite.

To improve the connecting strength of larch timbers, tensile shear test specimens were fabricated, and their connecting shear strength performance was examined. The control specimens consisted of larch timber reinforced with steel plate. These were compared with similar specimens in which the wood had been reinforced with carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP). The reinforced specimens were fabricated in three types depending on the position of the CFRP reinforcement in the wooden part. All specimens were fabricated in two end distance types, depending on the bolt insertion position. The end distances examined were 60 mm (5D) and 84 mm (7D). The maximum connecting strength and the yield shear strength of each type were not different according to the CFRP reinforcement position. The reinforced specimens had an average connecting strength and yield shear strength that was 24% to 29% higher than the control specimens. The CFRP-reinforced specimens with an end distance of 5D had an average connecting strength and an average yield shear strength that that was 70% and 26% higher, respectively, than non-reinforced 7D specimens. The yield shear strength was predicted by measuring the bearing strengths of the larch timber samples and CFRP-reinforced timber samples. The predicted yield shear strength matched the measured yield shear strength.

Laminated timber composed of small-diameter timbers reinforced with a steel bar and fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) were fabricated to satisfy the seismic design performance level of wooden columns, and their compression strength performance was evaluated. The experimental results showed that the average compression strength of the specimen reinforced with a CFRP (Carbon FRP) bar increased by approximately 7% compared to that of the control. The average compression strengths of the specimens reinforced with a GFRP (Glass FRP) bar and a steel bar increased by 38 and 37% compared to that of the control, respectively. The unreinforced control column specimens showed a diagonal failure tendency due to the fiber slope angle, and the wood part of the reinforced specimens showed a failure mode with suppressed diagonal fracture. The average strength of the column reinforced with a CFRP plate increased by approximately 6%, but the average strength of the column reinforced with a GFRP plate decreased by approximately 5%. A comparison of the measured and predicted compression strengths of the specimens showed that the strength differences of all the specimens except the specimen reinforced with a GFRP plate were good (2 to 10.4%).

Construction of eco-friendly high-rise buildings using cross-laminated timber (CLT)-concrete composite (CCC) slabs is increasing. CLT and concrete, which are major component materials of the CCC slab, are significantly affected by moisture. In particular, the moisture content of concrete in the production process affects the quality of both materials. In this study, the effects of the wet construction method on CLT and concrete component materials are examined by monitoring the behavior of the CCC slab during curing time (28 d) and by evaluating the quality of the concrete and CLT after curing. When manufacturing the CCC using the wet construction method, moisture penetration from the concrete into the CLT during the curing time is suppressed by the shear bonding between the concrete and the CLT when an adhesive is used. This minimizes the effect of the moisture on both component materials, consequently yielding uniform compressive strength to the concrete after curing and preventing the deterioration of the CLT’s delamination performance. Therefore, the shear bonding method using an adhesive is expected to minimize the quality deterioration observed in concrete and CLT after curing.

To develop a high-performance, lightweight cross-laminated timber (CLT) floor, this study tested the delamination performance between carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) and CLT and the bending performance of a CFRP composite CLT that was differently reinforced according to the shape of CFRP. The test results showed that the soaking and boiling delamination between CLT and CFRP of the CFRP composite CLT produced by spreading a polyurethane (PUR) adhesive at 300g/m2 were both less than 5%, satisfying the Korean standard. Furthermore, the composite CLT (3ply) of which the entire outer surface of the tension laminae was reinforced with a CFRP plate (thickness: 1.2 mm) showed a mean MOE and a mean MOR higher by 27% and 48%, respectively, than those of the unreinforced CLT (3ply). Furthermore, even though the weight of this CFRP composite CLT was smaller than that of 5ply CLT by approximately 40%, its bending moment was measured higher by 14% than that of the 5ply CLT (thickness: 175 mm) fabricated by limited state design (LSD) as specified in PRG-320.

The strength performance of edge connections between the cross-laminated timber (CLT) panels, as currently applied to CLT construction, was compared to that of connections reinforced with glass fiber-reinforced plastic (GFRP) by means of a tensile-type shearing test. In this study, the reinforced half-lapped connection is intended to prevent CLT from coming apart due to failure of self-tapping screws (STS) by bonding GFRP sheets to connections between CLT panels. The end-distance and edge-distance of this reinforced half-lapped connection were designed to equal 5D (where D is the fastener diameter) and 4D, respectively, which is shorter than the 6D recommended by European Technical Approval (ETA). Nevertheless, the yield strength was increased by 7%, and the stiffness by 92%, compared to the non-reinforced half-lapped connection. In addition, the internal spline connections using GFRP-reinforced plywood were 57 and 36% higher than the connection made up of LVB or plywood, respectively, and the energy dissipation percentages were 400 and 76%, respectively. These results indicate that the reinforcement effect of the connection by the GFRP was very significant. On the other hand, the half-lapped connection of the larch CLT improved the strength performance as the end-distance increased, and the end-distance had a greater effect on the strength performance than the edge-distance.

As timber tends to be weak against the load perpendicular to grains, it can be important to study the consequences of applying loads perpendicular to larch cross-laminated timber (CLT) composed of multiple larch laminae. Compression tests were conducted perpendicular to the in-plane and out-of-plane grains of Japanese larch CLT. Out-of-plane average compressive strength, average yield strength, and average compressive stiffness perpendicular to the grain of the larch CLT were 11.94 N/mm2, 7.30 N/mm2, and 7.30 N/mm3, respectively, whereas the in-plane average compressive strength, average yield strength, and average compressive stiffness perpendicular to the grain of the larch CLT were 21.48 N/mm2, 21.18 N/mm2, and 18.72 N/mm3, respectively. The in-plane compressive strength and yield strength showed a statistically significant relationship with the density of CLT, the modulus of elasticity measured by longitudinal vibration (MOELV), and the average MOELV of the laminae constructing the cross-laminated timber. The in-plane yield strength was affected by the MOELV of the outer laminae and the average MOELV of the larch cross-laminated timber. The compressive strength properties were most affected by the loading surface of the CLT. The variation between the moisture content and compressive strength properties of the CLT, however, was not statistically significant.

본 연구에서는 고강성, 고인성의 경량화된 목질접합부를 제작하기 위하여 슬릿 가공된 기둥부재 중앙에 강판 대용인 목질접합물을 삽입하고 기둥부재와 목질접합물만 결합된 시험편들을 제작하였다. 시험편들은 강판을 사용한 대조군시험편과 모멘트 저항성능을 비교분석하였다. GFRP보강목질적층판과 핀으로 제작된 시험편들은 강판삽입형 시험편보다 평균 24% 저하된 최대모멘트가 측정되었으나 양호한 인성이 관찰되었다. 파괴형상은 기둥부재의 연단부분에서 연륜을 따라 파괴되었다. 집성재와 목질적층판을 접착제로 일체화한 강절형 시험편은 대조군 시험편보다 초기강성이 2.8배 향상되었고, 최대모멘트도 평균 40% 향상된 경향을 보였다. 강절형 시험편들은 접착층 주위에서 파단되었다.

국내산 낙엽송 집성재와 봉형 GFRP의 접착성능을 평가하기 위해 집성재에 선공을 한 후 봉형 GFRP를 삽입하고 접착제로 목재와의 간극을 충진시켜 인발시험편을 제작하였다. 인발시험편은 접착 깊이, 접착층 두께, 접착제 종류를 다르게 적용하여 실험하였다. 봉형 GFRP를 삽입접착한 캔틸레버형 라멘구조 시험체는 인발시험 결과를 토대로 제작, 강판삽입형 시험체와 모멘트 저항 성능을 비교검토 하였다. 인발시험결과 봉형 GFRP의 삽입깊이가 봉형 GFRP 직경의 5배일 때 가장 우수한 접착력이 측정되었으며, 접착층 두께는 1 mm일 경우 2 mm일 때보다 17%∼29% 향상된 접착력이 측정되었다. 또한 폴리우레탄(poly-urethane) 접착제를 사용한 시험편이 레조시놀(resorcinol) 접착제를 사용한 시험편보다 2.9∼4.0배 높은 성능을 발휘하였다. 봉형 GRFP로 접합한 캔틸레버형 라멘구조 시험체는 드리프트 핀을 사용한 강판삽입형 시험체와 비교하여 평균0.82배 낮은 모멘트 저항 성능이 측정되었지만 초기강성은 0.93배로 대등한 성능을 보였다.

As a way of developing wooden joint development, a glass fiber reinforced wood plate was manufactured to replace a steel plate. Also, the fracture toughness was evaluated. Through application to a cantilever-type specimen made of a column and a beam, the moment resistance performance was evaluated. For the fracture toughness specimen of the wood plate, 12 types were manufactured by varying the combination of a main member (veneer and plywood) and reinforcement (glass fiber sheet and glass fiber cloth). The results of the fracture toughness test indicated that the 5% yield load of the specimen using plywood was 18% higher than that of the specimen using veneer, and that the specimen reinforced by inserting glass fiber sheets between testing materials (Type-3-PS) had the highest average 5% yield load 4841 N. Thus, a moment resistance strength test was performed by applying Type-3-PS to a column-beam joint. The results of the test indicated that compared to the specimen using a steel plate and a drift pin (Type-A), the maximum moment ratio of the specimen using a glass fiber reinforced wood plate (Type-3-PS) and a drift pin (Type-B) was 0.79; and that a rupture occurred in the wood plate due to high stiffness of the drift pin. The maximum moment ratio of the specimen using a glass fiber reinforced wood plate (Type-3-PS) and a glass fiber reinforced wooden laminated pin (Type-C) was 0.67, which showed low performance. However, unlike Type-A, a ductile fracture occurred on Type-C, and the load gradually decreased even after the max-imum moment.

합판과 유리섬유강화플라스틱을 조합하여 적층 후 1.96 N/mm2의 압력으로 150℃에서 1시간 고밀화시킨 유리섬유강화플라스틱 적층판을 제작하였다. 제작된 5가지의 유리섬유강화플라스틱 적층판을 각각 기둥재와 접하는 집성재에 부착하여 부분보강보부재를 제작하였다. 더불어 합판과 시트형 유리섬유강화플라스틱을 적층한 보강적층목재핀과 유리섬유로 보강한 원통형 단판적층기둥재로 기둥-보 접합부를 제작하였다. 기준시험편으로는 원주목과 집성재로 제작한 보부재, 드리프트핀을 사용한 접합부를 제작하여 모멘트 저항 내력을 평가하였다. 시험결과 기준시험편과 비교하여 부분보강보부재를 사용한 시험체들이 평균 1.8배 높은 내력성능이 측정되었다. 모든 부분보강보부재와 원통형 단판적층기둥재에는 파단이 발생하지 않았으며 접합부의 인성과 강성이 모두 양호하게 측정되었다. 부분보강보부재의 보강효과는 시트형 유리섬유강화플라스틱이 직물형 유리섬유강화플라스틱으로 보강한 적층판보다 양호한 보강효과를 보였으며, 시트형 유리섬유강화플라스틱을 각층에 삽입한 적층판이 접합내력과 변형각 모두 양호하여 보부재의 부분보강에 적합한 것을 확인하였다.

By replacing the previous metal connector on the joints of timber structure, the GFRP reinforced laminated wooden pin was produced using a wooden material and Glass fiber reinforced plastic(GFRP) composite laminate. In addition, using the reinforced wooden pin, the tensile type shear strength test was conducted. Based on the result of the bending strength test of the reinforced laminated wooden pin according to the GFRP arrangement, a specimen(Type-A) with a single insertion of GFRP for each layer have shown the most favorable performance. Also, it was verified that densi- fied specimen hot pressed for an hour at the temperature of 150°C and with the oppression pressure 1.96 N/mm 2 have shown the improved performance of 1.57 times than the specimen without the densification.

In order to know the shear performances of a bolted connection in reinforced glulam depending upon the combination of textile glass fiber, a tensile-type shear test was conducted. Textile glass fiber was used as a reinforcement, whose glass fiber arrangement was a plain weaving type or a diagonal cloth type. Reinforced glulam was made up of 5 plies and it was produced by inserting and laminating the plies between laminas depending upon a changed insert position and combination form of textile glass fiber. Tensile-type shear test specimens were a steel plate insert-type and joined at end-distance 7D with bolts whose diameter 12 or 16 mm.

Existing wood decks brings out negligent accident because fastener can be pulled-out by cyclic load of pedestrians. When deck and joist are connected, it also causes the problems, which are cracking of wood decks and rapid decay by material of fastener. In this study, strength property of deck unit using reinforced plastic connector made by domestic A company was evaluated. Southern yellow pine (Pinus palustris Miller) were used for deck material. Bending strength of deck units were implemented for fastener type and joist spacing (400, 600 mm). In the result, carbon steel screw into reinforced plastic connector was the best in average bending strength(Joist spacing : 400, 600 mm). In the result of bending strength for joist-width (40, 50, 70, 80 mm), the average maximum bending strength was measured when the joist spacing was 40 mm.

Pitch pine (Pinus rigida Miller) retaining walls using Steel bar, of which the constructability and strength performance are good at the construction site, were manufactured and their strength properties were evaluated. The wooden retaining wall using Steel bar was piled into four stories stretcher and three stories header, which is 770 mm high, 2,890 mm length and 782 mm width. Retaining wall was made by inserting stretchers into Steel bar after making 18 mm diameter of holes at top and bottom stretcher, and then stacking other stretchers and headers which have a slit of 66 mm depth and 18 mm width. The strength properties of retaining walls were investigated by horizontal loading test, and the deformation of structure by image processing (AlCON 3D OPA-PRO system). Joint (Type-A) made with a single long stretcher and two headers, and joint (Type-B) made with two short stretchers connected with half lap joint and two headers were in the retaining wall using Steel bar. The compressive shear strength of joint was tested. Three replicates were used in each test. In horizontal loading test the strength was 1.6 times stronger in wooden retaining wall using Steel bar than in wooden retaining wall using square timber. The timber and joints were not fractured in the test. When testing compressive shear strength, the maximum load of type-A and Type-B was 130.13 kN and 130.6 kN, respectively. Constructability and strength were better in the wooden retaining wall using Steel bar than in wooden retaining wall using square timber.

시험 시편은 1개의 횡목과 2개의 종목이 직결나사못 2개로 연결된 접합부(Type-A)와 2개의 횡목과 2개의 종목이 4개의 직결나사못으로 연결된 접합부(Type-B)를 제작하였다. Type-B를 보강하기 위하여 횡목간의 연결부를 끝면거리 5D로 반턱이음하여 2개의 직결나사를 사용한 접합부(Type-C), 끝면거리 10D로 반턱이음한 접합부(Type-Cl)와 끝면거리 10D, 직결나자 3개를 사용한 접합부(Type-C2)를 제작하였다. 압축형 전단 내력 시험 결과 Type-B의 내력을 기준으로 Type-B를 보완한 Type-C는 약 30% 감소하였고, Type-C에서 끝면거리를 증가시킨 Type-C1은 Type-B와 비슷한 내력을 보였으며, Type-C1에서 직결나사못의 개수를 3개로 증가시킨 Type-C2는 Type－C1과 비교하여 1.28배 내력을 나타냈다. 기존 정각재를 이용한 옹벽의 접합부 중 긴 횡목과 짧은 횡목이 2개의 종목과 연결되는 접합부는 내력이 저하되기 때문에 이를 대체하기 위하여 실험을 실시하였다. 따라서 Type-B를 Type-C2로 대체한다면 옹벽 시공시 직결나사못에 의한 목재의 할렬, 파단과 시공시간이 줄어들고 접합 내력이 증가할 것으로 기대된다.
