Abstract Background With the ongoing prevalence of the emerging variant and global vaccination efforts, the optimal surgical timing for patients with resectable lung cancer in the Omicron-dominant period requires further investigation. Methods This prospective multicenter study involved patients who underwent radical surgery for lung cancer between January 29, 2023 and March 31, 2023. Patients were categorized into four groups based on the interval between SARS-CoV-2 infection and surgery. The main outcomes evaluated were 30-day mortality and 30-day morbidity. Results A total of 2081 patients were enrolled in the study, of which 1837 patients (88.3%) had a confirmed SARS-CoV-2 diagnosis before surgery. Notably, no instances of 30-day mortality were observed in any patient. Patients without prior infection had a 30-day morbidity rate of 15.2%, with postoperative pneumonia occurring in 7.0% of cases. In contrast, patients diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 before surgery had significantly higher rates of 30-day morbidity and postoperative pneumonia when surgery was performed within 4–5 weeks (adjusted odds ratio (aOR) (95% CI):2.18 (1.29–3.71) and 2.39 (1.21–4.79), respectively) or within 6–7 weeks (aOR (95% CI):2.07 (1.36–3.20) and 2.10 (1.20–3.85), respectively). Conversely, surgeries performed ≥ 8 weeks after SARS-CoV-2 diagnosis exhibited similar risks of 30-day morbidity and pneumonia compared to those in the no prior infection group (aOR (95% CI):1.13 (0.77–1.70) and 1.12 (0.67–1.99), respectively). Conclusions Thoracic surgery for lung cancer conducted 4–7 weeks after SARS-CoV-2 infection is still associated with an increased risk of 30-day morbidity in the Omicron-dominant period. Therefore, surgeons should carefully assess the individual risks and benefits to formulate an optimal surgical strategy for patients with lung cancer with a history of SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Abstract Background Sarcopenia is an important indicator of ill health and is linked to increased mortality and a reduced quality of life. Age‐associated muscle mass indices provide a critical tool to help understand the development of sarcopenia. This study aimed to develop sex‐ and age‐specific percentiles for muscle mass indices in a Chinese population and to compare those indices with those from other ethnicities using the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) data. Methods Whole‐body and regional muscle mass was measured by dual‐energy X‐ray absorptiometry (DXA) in participants of the China Body Composition Life‐course (BCL) study (17 203 healthy Chinese aged 3–60 years, male 48.9%) and NHANES (12 663 healthy Americans aged 8–59 years, male 50.4%). Age‐ and sex‐specific percentile curves were generated for whole‐body muscle mass and appendicular skeletal muscle mass using the Generalized Additive Model for Location Scale and Shape statistical method. Results Values of upper and lower muscle mass across ages had three periods: an increase from age 3 to a peak at age 25 in males (with the 5th and 95th values of 41.5 and 66.4 kg, respectively) and age 23 in females (with the 5th and 95th values of 28.4 and 45.1 kg, respectively), a plateau through midlife (30s–50s) and then a decline after their early 50s. The age at which muscle mass began to decline was 52 years in men with the 5th and 95th percentile values of 43.5 and 64.6 kg, and 51 years in women with the 5th and 95th percentile values of 31.6 and 46.9 kg. Appendicular skeletal muscle mass decreased earlier than whole body muscle mass, especially leg skeletal muscle mass, which decreased slightly after age 49 years in both sexes. Abstract The effective field theory of single-field inflation characterizes the inflationary epoch in terms of a pattern of symmetry breaking. An operator acquires a time-dependent vacuum expectation value, defining a preferred spatial slicing. In the absence of dynamical gravity, the fluctuations around the time-dependent background are described by the Goldstone boson associated with this symmetry breaking process. With gravity, the Goldstone is eaten by the metric, becoming the scalar metric fluctuation. In this paper, we will show that in general single-field inflation, the statistics of scalar metric fluctuations are given by the statistics of this Goldstone boson decoupled from gravity up to corrections that are controlled as an expansion in slow-roll parameters. This even holds in the presence of additional parameters, like the speed of sound, that naively enhance the impact of the gravitational terms. In the process, we derive expressions for leading and sub-leading gravitational corrections to all-orders in the Goldstone boson.

Abstract Transposable elements (TEs) contribute to gene expression regulation by acting as cis-regulatory elements that attract transcription factors and epigenetic regulators. This research aims to explore the functional and clinical implications of transposable element-related molecular events in hepatocellular carcinoma, focusing on the mechanism through which liver-specific accessible TEs (liver-TEs) regulate adjacent gene expression. Our findings reveal that the expression of HNF4A is inversely regulated by proximate liver-TEs, which facilitates liver cancer cell proliferation. Mechanistically, liver-TEs are predominantly occupied by the histone demethylase, KDM1A. KDM1A negatively influences the methylation of histone H3 Lys4 (H3K4) of liver-TEs, resulting in the epigenetic silencing of HNF4A expression. The suppression of HNF4A mediated by KDM1A promotes liver cancer cell proliferation. In conclusion, this study uncovers a liver-TE/KDM1A/HNF4A regulatory axis that promotes liver cancer growth and highlights KDM1A as a promising therapeutic target. Our findings provide insight into the transposable element-related molecular mechanisms underlying liver cancer progression.

Abstract Background Long-chain acyl-coenzyme A synthetase (LACS) is a type of acylating enzyme with AMP-binding, playing an important role in the growth, development, and stress response processes of plants. Results The research team identified different numbers of LACS in four cotton species (Gossypium hirsutum, Gossypium barbadense, Gossypium raimondii, and Gossypium arboreum). By analyzing the structure and evolutionary characteristics of the LACS, the GhLACS were divided into six subgroups, and a chromosome distribution map of the family members was drawn, providing a basis for further research classification and positioning. Promoter cis-acting element analysis showed that most GhLACS contain plant hormones (GA, MeJA) or non-biological stress-related cis-elements. The expression patterns of GhLACS under salt stress treatment were analyzed, and the results showed that GhLACS may significantly participate in salt stress response through different mechanisms. The research team selected 12 GhLACSs responsive to salt stress for tissue expression analysis and found that these genes are expressed in different tissues. Conclusions There is a certain diversity of LACS among different cotton species. Analysis of promoter cis-acting elements suggests that GhLACS may be involved in regulating plant growth, development and stress response processes. GhLACS25 was selected for in-depth study, which confirmed its significant role in salt stress response through virus-induced gene silencing (VIGS) and induced expression in yeast cells.

Abstract Background Prevotella heparinolytica is a Gram-negative bacterium that is commonly found in the oral, intestinal, and urinary tracts. It has been extensively studied in lower respiratory tract infections in horses, which has heparinolytic activity and can secrete heparinase and further induces virulence factors in cells and causes disease. However, no such cases have been reported in humans. Case presentation A 58-year-old male patient from China presented to the respiratory clinic in Suzhou with a productive cough producing white sputum for 20 days and fever for 3 days. Prior to this visit, a chest computed tomography scan was conducted, which revealed multiple patchy nodular opacities in both lungs. On admission, the patient presented with a temperature of 38.1 °C and a pulse rate of 110 beats per minute. Despite routine anti-infective treatment with moxifloxacin, his temperature fluctuated and the treatment was ineffective. The patient was diagnosed with Prevotella heparinolytica infection through metagenomic next-generation sequencing. Therefore, the antibiotics were switched to piperacillin–tazobactam in combination with ornidazole, which alleviated his symptoms; 1 week after discharge, the patient returned to the clinic for a follow-up chest computed tomography, and the opacities on the lungs continued to be absorbed. Conclusion Prevotella heparinolytica is an opportunistic pathogen. However, it has not been reported in human pneumonia. In refractory pneumonia, measures such as metagenomic next-generation sequencing can be used to identify pathogens and help guide antibiotic selection and early support.

Abstract Effective field theories in flat space and in anti-de Sitter space are constrained by causality and unitarity, often in the form of positivity bounds. Similar bounds have been harder to demonstrate in cosmological backgrounds, where the roles of unitarity and causality are more obscure. Fortunately, the expansion of the universe ensures that late-time cosmological correlators are effectively classical and the role of unitarity is played by classical statistical inequalities. For multi-field inflation, the resulting positivity constraints have long been known in terms of the Suyama-Yamaguchi inequality. In this paper, we demonstrate that similar statistical bounds imply nontrivial constraints for massive fields in the early universe. We show that any real anomalous dimensions for principal series fields in de Sitter space must be positive. We also derive a limit on the amplitude of particular oscillatory signals from inflation, including those arising in cosmological collider physics. Finally, we demonstrate that these constraints manifest themselves directly in the two-point statistics of matter and galaxies that will be measured in upcoming surveys.

Background: Colon adenocarcinoma (COAD) is a serious public health issue due to high incidence and mortality rate. This study aimed to identify possible tumor antigens and necroptosis subtypes of COAD for the development of mRNA vaccines and the selection of appropriate patients for precision therapy. Methods: Gene expression profiles and clinical information for COAD were obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas and Gene Expression Omnibus, respectively. We comprehensively studied the alterations in necroptosis-related genes (NRGs) using cBioPortal, and screened the hub NRGs associated with the prognosis of patients with COAD using Gene Expression Profiling Interactive Analysis 2. Consensuses clustering analysis was performed to identify necroptosis subtypes. Weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) was used to identify the co-expression modules of the NRGs. The necroptosis landscape of COAD was assessed using graph learning-based dimensionality reduction. Finally, a drug sensitivity analysis of the two necroptosis subtypes was performed. Findings: Two tumor antigens, BLC-2-associated X protein (BAX) and interleukin 1 beta (IL1B) were identified based on their associations with prognosis of patients and antigen presenting cell infiltration. Two necroptosis subtypes (N1 and N2) were distinguished in patients with COAD, and they were characterized by their differential survival status and molecular expression levels of immune checkpoint proteins and immunogenetic cell death modulators. Furthermore, the necroptosis landscape of COAD indicated that individual patients had obvious heterogeneity. Co-expression modules were identified using WGCNA, and the hub NRGs were found to be involved in various immune processes. Drug sensitivity analysis indicated that there were significant differences in drug sensitivity between the N1 and N2 subtypes. Cell experiments suggested that both overexpression of BAX and IL1B promoted necroptosis of COAD cells and enhanced the cytotoxicity of CD8+ T cells. Interpretation: BAX and IL1B are potential antigens for the development of anti-COAD mRNA vaccines, specifically for patients with the N2 subtype. Consequently, this study will guide the development of more effective immunotherapeutic approaches and the identification of appropriate patients.

BackgroundCytomegalovirus (CMV) reactivation is a significant concern following allogeneic stem cell transplantation. While previous research has highlighted the anti-CMV reactivation effect of γδ T cells in immunocompromised transplant patients, their characterization in recipients at high risk of CMV reactivation remains limited.MethodsThis study focused on D+/R+ recipients (where both donor and recipient are CMV seropositive) at high risk of CMV reactivation. We analyzed 28 patients who experienced CMV recurrence within 100 days post-allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, along with 36 matched recipients who did not experience CMV recurrence. Clinical data from both groups were compared, and risk factors for CMV reactivation were identified. Additionally, CMV viral load was measured, and flow cytometric analysis was conducted to assess changes in peripheral blood γδ T cell proportions, subpopulation distribution, and differentiation status. We also analyzed the CDR3 repertoire of the TCR δ chain in different γδ T cell subsets. Functional analysis was performed by measuring the lysis of CMV-infected cells upon stimulation.ResultsCMV reactivation post-transplantation was associated with acute graft-versus-host disease (aGvHD) and reactivation of non-CMV herpesviruses. Notably, CMV reactivation led to sustained expansion of γδ T cells, primarily within the Vδ2neg γδ T cell subpopulation, with a trend toward differentiation from Naive to effector memory cells. Analysis of the δ chain CDR3 repertoire revealed a delay in the reconstitution of clonal diversity in Vδ2neg γδ T cells following CMV reactivation, while Vδ2pos T cells remained unaffected. Upon stimulation with CMV-infected MRC5 cells, the Vδ2neg γδ T cell subpopulation emerged as the primary effector cell group producing IFN-γ and capable of lysing CMV-infected cells. Moreover, our findings suggest that NKG2D is not necessary involved in Vδ2neg γδ T cell-mediated anti-CMV cytotoxicity.ConclusionThis study provides novel insights into the role of γδ T cells in the immune response to CMV reactivation in transplantation recipients at high risk of CMV infection. Specifically, the Vδ2neg γδ T cell subpopulation appears to be closely associated with CMV reactivation, underscoring their potential role in controlling infection and reflecting CMV reactivation in HSCT patients.

Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) combined with multivariate analysis were used to characterize the nonvolatile compounds of broken green tea and explore the effect of isolated scenting on metabolic profile and taste quality of broken green tea in this research. A total of 236 nonvolatile compounds were identified and 13 compounds were believed to be the key characteristic taste compounds of scented broken green tea. Meanwhile, the optimal isolated scenting time of broken green tea was determined to be 10 h based on the sensory evaluation and PLS results. The contents and types of flavonoids, organic acids and catechins lead to the difference of taste quality at different scenting times. Overall, these findings provided a theoretical basis for scenting to improve the taste of broken green tea, and provide a new idea for improving the taste of broken green tea.

Fulminant type 1 diabetes is a subtype of type 1 diabetes characterised by a rapid progression to diabetic ketoacidosis combined with a background of rapid and almost complete pancreatic islet destruction. FT1D induced by secondary SARS-CoV-2 infection is rare. Herein, we present the case of a 42-year-old male patient with new-onset FT1D after a secondary SARS-CoV-2 infection, with recurrent hyperglycaemia and ketosis as the primary manifestations. Eventually, the patient responded well after receiving more than 50 units of insulin daily. This case illustrates the importance of paying attention to severe hyperglycaemia accompanying recurrent ketosis, particularly among patients with secondary SARS-CoV-2 infection.

INTRODUCTION: Tower-type heliostat field is a new type of energy conversion, which has the advantages of high energy efficiency, flexibility and sustainability and environmental friendliness. OBJECTIVES: Through the research and improvement of the tower heliostat field to promote the development of solar energy utilization technology. METHODS: In this paper, we calculate and optimize the tower heliostat field by using single objective optimization, high-dimensional particle swarm algorithm and multiple group genetic algorithm. RESULTS: In this case of question setting, average annual optical efficiency is 0.6696; average annual cosine efficiency is 0.7564; annual average shadow occlusion efficiency is 0.9766; average annual truncation efficiency is 0.9975; average annual output thermal power is 35539.1747W; mean annual output thermal power per unit area is 0.5657W.The optimal solution after the initial optimization of the algorithm is that the total number of mirror fields is 6,384 pieces, and the average annual output power per unit area is 530.6W. CONCLUSION: The model of this paper can reasonably solve the problem and has strong practicability and high efficiency, but high dimensional particle swarm algorithm due to easily get local optimal solution, so can introduce the chaotic mapping to increase the randomness of the search space, improve the global search ability of the algorithm.

Abstract Decision‐dependent (endogenous) uncertainties (DDUs), as a new type of uncertainties revealed recently, couple dispatch decisions with uncertainty parameters and thus render power system dispatch more challenging. However, most previous works handled various DDUs via stochastic programming (SP) or robust optimization (RO) in a two‐stage framework, which undoubtedly introduces the drawbacks of SP and RO, and cannot meet the nonanticipativity requirements in power scheduling. In this paper, a multistage distributionally robust optimization (DRO) method for generation dispatch with demand response (DR) is proposed considering the DDUs of deferrable loads and the decision‐independent (exogenous) uncertainties (DIUs) of wind power and regular loads. By analyzing the structure of decision‐dependency parameters, a novel data‐driven decision‐dependent ambiguity set is proposed, which provides a generic framework for formulating DDUs and DIUs simultaneously. Then a multistage DRO model with nested max‐min structure is developed to integrate the merits of DRO and nonanticipativity into generation dispatch. The proposed model is solved by tailored reformulation method and improved stochastic dual dynamic integer programming (SDDiP). Case studies illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach by comparing with the multistage SP, RO, and decision‐independent DRO methods.

Abstract Exploiting the fundamental features of quantum mechanics, an entanglement-based quantum network offers a promising platform for many dramatic applications such as multi-user cryptography. Nevertheless, the implementation of a large-scale quantum network in real-world scenarios remains challenging owing to the multiple scattering events in complex environment, particularly those frequency-sensitive scatterings that disturb quantum correlation both spatially and temporally. Here, we demonstrate the frequency-insensitive spatiotemporal control of entangled photons in a fully connected network by leveraging a Fourier-transform setup and the genetic algorithm. Such an approach can effectively improve the entanglement distribution process through a multimode fiber while the quantum characteristic of the network can be maintained well after the spatiotemporal shaping. Our scheme can serve as a bridging technology to establish entanglement between remote nodes of spectrally interconnected quantum systems and has great potential applications in future real-world quantum networks.

Abstract Since its recent successful synthesis and due to its promising physical and chemical properties, the carbon nitrite nanomaterial, C3N3, has attracted considerable attention in various scientific areas. However, thus far, little effort has been devoted to investigating the structural influence of the direct interaction of this 2D nanomaterial and biomolecules, including proteins and biomembranes so as to understand the physical origin of its bio-effect, particularly from the molecular landscape. Such information is fundamental to correlate to the potential nanotoxicology of the C3N3 nanomaterial. In this work, we explored the potential structural influence of a C3N3 nanosheet on the prototypical globular protein, villin headpiece (HP35) using all-atom molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. We found that HP35 could maintain its native conformations upon adsorption onto the C3N3 nanosheet regardless of the diversity in the binding sites, implying the potential advantage of C3N3 in protecting the biomolecular structure. The adsorption was mediated primarily by vdW interactions. Moreover, once adsorbed on the C3N3 surface, HP35 remains relatively fixed on the nanostructure without a distinct lateral translation, which may aid in keeping the structural integrity of the protein. In addition, the porous topological structure of C3N3 and the special water layer present on the C3N3 holes conjointly contributed to the restricted motion of HP35 via the formation of a high free energy barrier and a steric hindrance to prevent the surface displacement. This work revealed for the first time the potential influence of the 2D C3N3 nanomaterial in the protein structure and provided the corresponding in-depth molecular-level mechanism, which is valuable for future applications of C3N3 in bionanomedicine.

Expanded polystyrene (EPS) bead lightweight soil composites are a new type of artificial geotechnical material with low density and high strength characteristics that can be widely used in engineering projects. To promote the wide application of EPS bead lightweight soil in engineering, when slag is used to replace part of the cement as a binding agent, it can better improve the effect of soil and reduce engineering costs. The mechanical properties of EPS lightweight soil mixed with slag were analyzed by conducting an unconfined compressive strength (UCS) test and triaxial test on lightweight soil with different EPS bead contents and slag contents. The particle sizes of the EPS beads are 1~3 mm, the EPS contents are 1%, 2%, 3%, and 4%, and the slag-cement composite binding agents are 10%, 15%, 20% and 25%. The results show that the UCS decreases significantly with increasing EPS bead content at different EPS bead contents and slag contents; the UCS of the specimen with 30% slag content is the largest; and the UCS of lightweight soil without slag is comparable to that of lightweight soil with a slag content of approximately 60%. The peak stress in triaxial increases with increasing confining pressure, and the modulus of deformation decreases linearly with increasing EPS bead content. the slag-cement composite binding agent has a significantly better reinforcing effect than single mixed cement. The stress‒strain curves of EPS lightweight soil mixed with slag exhibits hardening and softening characteristics. EPS bead content and slag content determine the stress‒strain characteristics of the EPS lightweight soil mixed with slag. The macromechanical properties based on the microscopic mechanism of the EPS lightweight soil mixed with slag shows that different slag contents affect the failure pattern of EPS lightweight soil mixed with slag. The research results can provide a reference for engineering design and application.

ObjectiveHemophilia B is a rare X-chromosome linked hereditary bleeding disorder. Patients require lifelong treatment and it is costly, but there is a lack of research in China on the treatment and burden for this group. Our aim was to review the actual treatment pattern of hemophilia B patients in China, and describe the financial burden and other disease burden from the patient’s perspective.MethodsUsing data collected by the Beijing Hemophilia Home Care Center, descriptive statistics were made on the sociodemographic characteristics and treatment of patients. The annual drug costs were calculated according to the actual factor dosage and price.ResultsDuring the study period, 29.9% of the patients only received on-demand treatment, while the rest of the patients received varying numbers of prophylaxis treatment. The total cost of clotting factors for 341 patients in one year was 16.0 million CNY ($2.5 million), with 46990.8 CNY ($7283.7) per patient. The drug cost of prophylaxis was significantly higher than that of on-demand treatment. The amount of prothrombin complex concentrates used by patients was the largest, more than 5 times of recombinant coagulation factor IX. Based on the average annual wage and average working time of Chinese employees in 2021, the average annual wage loss of HB patients reached 31544.2 CNY ($4889.4). The results of the questionnaire showed that 77.1% and 65.3% of patients had chronic pain and acute pain of different frequencies.ConclusionThe level of prophylaxis for Chinese patients is low; safer and more effective recombinant drugs are not widely available. Patients also face a high burden of drug costs, as well as indirect costs that cannot be underestimated. Therefore, continued efforts are needed to improve the quality of life of patients by reducing their financial burden and promote standardized treatment.

Abstract Exploiting the fantastic features of quantum mechanics, a hyperentangled quantum network encoded in multiple degree of freedoms (DOF), e.g., polarization and orbital angular momentum DOFs, can encode more qubits per transmitted photon and offers a promising platform for many dramatic applications. Here, we demonstrate such a hyperentangled multiuser network with a fully connected network architecture by using dense wavelength division multiplexing and entanglement transfer technique. Three hyperentangled states in polarization and time-energy DOFs are multiplexed to three single mode fibers to form the fully connected network architecture. Then, three interferometric quantum gates are utilized for transferring quantum entanglement from time-energy to orbital angular momentum DOF. The experimental results reveal a high quality of the hyperentanglement of the constructed network with the entangled state fidelity of higher than 96%. Our approach can provide a novel way to construct a large-scale hyperentangled network that can support various kinds of quantum tasks like superdense coding and teleportation.

C. nudiflora is notably rich in flavonoids and phenylethanoid glycosides, making it a significant natural source of antioxidants. We examined the effects of C. nudiflora aqueous extract (CNE) on growth performance, antioxidant function, immunity, intestinal barrier function, nutrient transporters, and microbiota of broilers. A total of 360 one-day-old broilers were randomly assigned to four treatment groups: a basal diet with 0 (control, CON), 300 mg/kg (CNEL), 500 mg/kg (CNEM), and 700 mg/kg (CNEH) CNE for 42 days. CNEL and CNEM groups quadratically increased body weight and average daily gain but decreased feed-to-gain ratios during the starter and whole phases. Regarding the immune response of broilers, CNE treatment linearly down-regulated jejunal myeloid differentiation factor 88 (MyD88) expression and interleukin-1β (IL-1β) and interferon-γ expression in the liver (d 21), while decreasing jejunal IL-1β expression and the concentration of serum tumor necrosis factor-α and interleukin-6 (d 42). The CNEM and CNEH groups had lower MyD88 and nuclear factor kappa B expression in the liver (d 21) compared to the CON group. Broilers in the CNEL and CNEM groups had higher spleen index and thymus index (d 21) and interleukin-10 expression from the liver and jejunal mucosa (d 42) than that in the CON group. For the antioxidant capacity of broilers, CNE treatment linearly decreased the content of malonaldehyde and increased the activity of total antioxidant capacity in serum (d 42). CNEM and CNEH groups linearly increased the activity of superoxide dismutase in serum and heme oxygenase-1 expression in the liver, while increasing the activity of glutathione peroxidase in serum, jejunal nuclear factor E2-related factor 2 expression, and NAD(P)H quinone oxidoreductase 1 expression in the liver (d 42). As for the growth hormone of broilers, CNEM group increased the level of serum insulin-like growth factor 1 and up-regulated jejunal glucagon-like peptide 2 (GLP-2) expression (d 21). Broilers in the CNEM and CNEH groups had higher jejunal GLP-2 expression and growth hormone (GH) expression in the liver and the level of serum GH (d 42) than that in the CON group. Additionally, the villus height and jejunal Occludin and Claudin-1 expression in the CNEM group increased. CNE-containing diets resulted in a linear increase in the expression of jejunal zonula occluden-1 (d 21), villus height to crypt depth ratio, jejunal Occludin, excitatory amino acid transporters-3, and peptide-transporter 1 (d 42). The regulation of Oscillospira, Ruminococcaceae_Ruminococcus, and Butyricicoccus genera indicated that CNEH altered the composition of the cecal microbiota. In general, supplementing broilers with C. nudiflora aqueous extract could boost hormones, immune and antioxidant function, and gut health, improving their growth performance. Hence, CNE was a promising poultry feed additive, with 500 mg/kg appearing to be the optimal dose.

The quality of jasmine tea is related to the volatiles of its infusion. In this study, the volatiles of jasmine tea infusion were extracted under the optimal conditions with a 50/30 μm DVB/CAR/PDMS fiber, tea/water ratio of 1:25 and extraction time of 5 min. A total of 204 volatiles were analyzed by comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (GC × GC-Q-TOF-MS). Twenty-five compounds were identified as the key volatile compounds by fold change (FC), orthogonal partial least squares discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA), and two-way orthogonal partial least squares analysis (O2PLS). Then optimal amount of flowers (80%–120%) was obtained by the equation describing key volatiles and quality of jasmine tea infusion. And 80% amount of flowers was more appropriate considering the production cost and more pleasant taste. This study laid a foundation for the extraction and research of volatiles of tea infusion and guided the reasonable amount of flowers to produce jasmine tea.

The traditional on-board charging system can only realize the one-way transmission of electric energy from the grid to the power battery. To address this issue, this paper proposes a bidirectional on-board charging system based on a three-phase wye-wye connected CLLLC resonant converter. It adopts a two-stage structure, the front-stage is a bidirectional totem pole converter and the rear-stage is a three-phase wye-wye connected CLLLC resonant converter. Based on the grid characteristics, the working principle of the front-stage converter is analyzed, the equivalent circuit model of the rear-stage converter is derived using fundamental wave analysis, and the voltage gain, impedance characteristics and zero voltage turn-on conditions are analyzed. The parameters of input inductor, DC bus capacitance and resonant network are calculated according to the design specifications of the bidirectional on-board charging system. The control strategy of bidirectional vehicle charging system is studied. The input current and input voltage are kept in the same phase by establishing the small signal circuit model of the front-stage bidirectional totem pole converter. The rear-stage three-phase wye-wye connected CLLLC resonant converter adopts pulse frequency modulation to realize constant voltage and constant current output of the charging system. Simulation software was used to simulate the bidirectional on-board charging system, and a 3.3 kW prototype was trial-produced according to the main circuit parameters. Simulation and experimental results verify the correctness of the design of the bidirectional on-board charging system.

In this paper, the Merkle-Transformer model is introduced as an innovative approach designed for financial data processing, which combines the data integrity verification mechanism of Merkle trees with the data processing capabilities of the Transformer model. A series of experiments on key tasks, such as financial behavior detection and stock price prediction, were conducted to validate the effectiveness of the model. The results demonstrate that the Merkle-Transformer significantly outperforms existing deep learning models (such as RoBERTa and BERT) across performance metrics, including precision, recall, accuracy, and F1 score. In particular, in the task of stock price prediction, the performance is notable, with nearly all evaluation metrics scoring above 0.9. Moreover, the performance of the model across various hardware platforms, as well as the security performance of the proposed method, were investigated. The Merkle-Transformer exhibits exceptional performance and robust data security even in resource-constrained environments across diverse hardware configurations. This research offers a new perspective, underscoring the importance of considering data security in financial data processing and confirming the superiority of integrating data verification mechanisms in deep learning models for handling financial data. The core contribution of this work is the first proposition and empirical demonstration of a financial data analysis model that fuses data integrity verification with efficient data processing, providing a novel solution for the fintech domain. It is believed that the widespread adoption and application of the Merkle-Transformer model will greatly advance innovation in the financial industry and lay a solid foundation for future research on secure financial data processing.

Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the second most common cancer in China. Autophagy plays an important role in the initiation and development of CRC. Here, we assessed the prognostic value and potential functions of autophagy-related genes (ARGs) using integrated analysis using single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) data from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) and RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA).Methods: We analyzed GEO-scRNA-seq data from GEO using various single-cell technologies, including cell clustering, and identification of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in different cell types. Additionally, we performed gene set variation analysis (GSVA). The differentially expressed ARGs among different cell types and those between CRC and normal tissues were identified using TCGA-RNA-seq data, and the hub ARGs were screened. Finally, a prognostic model based on the hub ARGs was constructed and validated, and patients with CRC in TCGA datasets were divided into high- and low-risk groups based on their risk-score, and immune cells infiltration and drug sensitivity analyses between the two groups were performed.Results: We obtained single-cell expression profiles of 16,270 cells, and clustered them into seven types of cells. GSVA revealed that the DEGs among the seven types of cells were enriched in many signaling pathways associated with cancer development. We screened 55 differentially expressed ARGs, and identified 11 hub ARGs. Our prognostic model revealed that the 11 hub ARGs including CTSB, ITGA6, and S100A8, had a good predictive ability. Moreover, the immune cell infiltrations in CRC tissues were different between the two groups, and the hub ARGs were significantly correlated with the enrichment of immune cell infiltration. The drug sensitivity analysis revealed that the patients in the two risk groups had difference in their response to anti-cancer drugs.Conclusion: We developed a novel prognostic 11-hub ARG risk model, and these hubs may act as potential therapeutic targets for CRC.

Abstract Background Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common of cancer-related deaths. Nucleolar protein 14 (NOP14) is known to play different roles in diverse types of cancers. However, little is known about its roles in CRC. Here, we assessed the prognostic value and functions of NOP14 in CRC using the data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and validated them based on the data from Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO). Methods NOP14 mRNA and protein data in CRC was obtained from the TCGA, GEO, human protein atlas (HPA), and UALCAN databases. Survival and Cox regression analysis was performed to assess the prognostic value of NOP14 in CRC patients. Next, to evaluate the potential functions of NOP14, a protein–protein interaction (PPI) network was constructed and gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) of differential expression genes (DEGs) associated with dysregulated NOP14 was performed. Finally, to investigate the immune response associated with NOP14 expression in CRC, we analyzed the correlations between immune cells infiltration and NOP14 expression level. Additionally, the correlations between immune molecule expression levels with NOP14 expression level were analyzed. Results High NOP14 mRNA expression was observed in CRC tissues based on the data from TCGA and GEO datasets. Similarly, high NOP14 protein levels were found in CRC tissues according to the immunohistochemical images from HPA. Interestingly, high NOP14 expression level was associated with an improved prognosis in CRC patients. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analysis indicated that high NOP14 expression level was an independent protective factor for CRC patients. With the support of PPI network analysis, we found several risk genes interacted with NOP14. GSEA revealed that high NOP14 expression inhibited several signal pathways involved in tumor formation and development. Additionally, high NOP14 expression was positively associated with most kinds of immune cell infiltrations and the expression levels of some molecules related to immune activation. Conclusion Altogether, these results indicated that high NOP14 expression leads to improved prognosis in CRC patients by inhibiting the signaling pathways involved in tumor growth and promoting the immune responses.

Scenting tea with Jasminum sambac is beneficial to forming a unique taste of jasmine tea, which is regulated by numerous compounds. To investigate the relationship between metabolites in jasmine and jasmine tea, as well as the impact of metabolites on the characteristic taste of jasmine tea, the liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry, sensory evaluation, and multivariate analysis were applied in this study. A total of 585 and 589 compounds were identified in jasmine tea and jasmine, respectively. After scented, jasmine tea added 70 compounds, which were believed to come from jasmine flowers. Furthermore, seventy-four compounds were identified as key characteristic compounds of jasmine tea, and twenty-two key differential metabolite compounds were believed to be used to distinguish jasmine tea scented differently and contribute to the taste of jasmine tea. Additionally, the relationship between taste compounds and aroma quality was also explored, and it was found that five compounds were positively correlated with the aroma properties of jasmine tea and seven compounds were negatively correlated with the aroma properties of jasmine tea. Overall, these findings provided insights into the future study of the mechanism of taste formation in jasmine tea and provided the theoretical basis for the production of jasmine tea.

Abstract A quantum interface for two-way entanglement transfer, e.g., between orbital angular momentum degree of freedom in free space and time-energy degree of freedom in optical fibers, provides a way toward establishing entanglement between remote heterogeneous quantum nodes. Here, we experimentally demonstrate this kind of transfer interface by using two interferometric cyclic gates. By using this quantum interface, we perform two-way entanglement transfer for the two degrees of freedom. The results show that the quantum entangled state can be switched back and forth between orbital angular momentum and time-energy degrees of freedom, and the fidelity of the state before and after switching is higher than 90%. Our work demonstrates the feasibility and high performance of our proposed transfer interface, and paves a route toward building a large-scale quantum communication network.

Abstract Background Exosome-mediated crosstalk between cancer cells and immune cells contributes to tumor growth. In this study, we investigated the mechanism underlying the exosome-mediated immune escape of colorectal cancer (CRC) cells from natural killer (NK) cells via the transfer of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs). Methods An epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) model of SW480 cells was established by transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β), followed by the assessment of the effect of EMT-derived exosomes (EMT-exo) on the functions of NK cells. RNA sequencing was performed to identify exosomal lncRNAs and target genes. The function of exosomal lncRNAs in tumor growth was further verified in vivo. Results EMT-exo suppressed the proliferation, cytotoxicity, IFN-γ production, and perforin-1 and granzyme B secretion of NK cells. RNA sequencing revealed that SNHG10 expression was upregulated in EMT-exo compared with that in non-EMT-exo. Moreover, SNHG10 expression was upregulated in tumor tissues in CRC, which was associated with poor prognosis. Overexpression of SNHG10 in exosomes (oe-lnc-SNHG10 exo) significantly suppressed the viability and cytotoxicity of NK cells. Transcriptome sequencing of NK cells revealed that the expression levels of 114 genes were upregulated in the oe-lnc-SNHG10 exo group, including inhibin subunit beta C (INHBC), which was involved in the TGF-β signaling pathway. Si-INHBC treatment abrogated the effect of oe-lnc-SNHG10 exo on NK cells. oe-lnc-SNHG10 exo induced tumor growth and upregulated INHBC expression in mice and downregulated the expression of perforin, granzyme B, and NK1.1 in tumor tissues. Conclusions The CRC cell-derived exosomal lncRNA SNHG10 suppresses the function of NK cells by upregulating INHBC expression. This study provides evidence that exosomal lncRNAs contribute to immune escape by inducing NK cell inhibition and proposes a potential treatment strategy for CRC.

One of the main challenges faced in food safety is the accumulation of toxic heavy metals from environmental sources, which can sequentially endanger human health when they are consumed. It is invaluable to establish a practical assay for the determination of heavy metals for food safety. Among the current detection methods, technology based on fluorescent probes, with the advantages of sensitivity, convenience, accuracy, cost, and reliability, has recently shown pluralistic applications in the food industry, which is significant to ensure food safety. Hence, this review systematically presents the recent progress on novel fluorescent probes in determining heavy metals for food safety over the past five years, according to fluorophores and newly emerging sensing cores, which could contribute to broadening the prospects of fluorescent materials and establishing more practical assays for heavy metal determinations.

With the rapid development of artificial intelligence and deep learning technologies, their applications in the field of agriculture, particularly in plant disease detection, have become increasingly extensive. This study focuses on the high-precision detection of tomato diseases, which is of paramount importance for agricultural economic benefits and food safety. To achieve this aim, a tomato disease image dataset was first constructed, and a NanoSegmenter model based on the Transformer structure was proposed. Additionally, lightweight technologies, such as the inverted bottleneck technique, quantization, and sparse attention mechanism, were introduced to optimize the model’s performance and computational efficiency. The experimental results demonstrated excellent performance of the model in tomato disease detection tasks, achieving a precision of 0.98, a recall of 0.97, and an mIoU of 0.95, while the computational efficiency reached an inference speed of 37 FPS. In summary, this study provides an effective solution for high-precision detection of tomato diseases and offers insights and references for future research.

Abstract In the gut, cathelicidin‐related antimicrobial peptide (CRAMP) has been largely described for its anti‐infective activities. With an increasing recognition of its immune regulatory effects in extra‐intestinal diseases, the role of CRAMP in gluten‐induced small intestinal enteropathy celiac disease remains unknown. This study aimed to investigate the unexplored role of CRAMP in celiac disease. By applying a mouse model of gluten‐induced enteropathy (GIE) recapitulating small intestinal enteropathy of celiac disease, we observed defective CRAMP production in duodenal epithelium during GIE. CRAMP‐deficient mice were susceptible to the development of GIE. Exogenous CRAMP corrected gliadin‐triggered epithelial dysfunction and promoted regulatory immune responses at the intestinal mucosa. Additionally, GIE‐associated gut dysbiosis with enriched Pseudomonas aeruginosa and production of the protease LasB contributed to defective intestinal CRAMP production. These results highlight microbiota‐CRAMP axis in the modulation of barrier function and immune responses in GIE. Hence, modulating CRAMP may represent a therapeutic strategy for celiac disease.

Winter frost has been considered the primary limiting factor in wheat production. Shimai 12 is an elite wheat cultivar grown in central and southern Hebei province of China, but sensitive to winter frost. In this study, the winter frost tolerant cultivar Lunxuan 103 was bred by introducing the recessive allele vrn-D1 from winter wheat Shijiazhuang 8 (frost tolerance) into Shimai 12 using marker-assisted selection (MAS). Different from Shimai 12, Lunxuan 103 exhibited a winter growth habit with strong winter frost tolerance. In the Shimai 12 × Shijiazhuang 8 population, the winter progenies (vrn-D1vrn-D1) had significantly lower winter-killed seedling/tiller rates than spring progenies (Vrn-D1aVrn-D1a), and the consistent result was observed in an association population. Winter frost damage caused a significant decrease in grain yield and spike number/m2 in Shimai 12, but not in Lunxuan 103 and Shijiazhuang 8. The time-course expression analysis showed that the transcript accumulation levels of the cold-responsive genes were higher in Lunxuan 103 and Shijiazhuang 8 than in Shimai 12. Lunxuan 103 possessed the same alleles as its parents in the loci for plant height, vernalization, and photoperiod, except for the vernalization gene Vrn-D1. An analysis of genomic composition showed that the two parents contributed similar proportions of genetic compositions to Lunxuan 103. This study provides an example of the improvement of winter frost tolerance by introducing the recessive vernalization gene in bread wheat.

Voids behind a lining may develop due to insufficient backfilling, poor workmanship, water erosion or gravity. They affect the interaction between the surrounding rock and lining and even cause instability of the lining structure. To ensure the safe operation of tunnels, it is very important to study the influence of voids behind the lining of the lining structure. In this paper, a laboratory model of a tunnel lining was established by taking the voids behind the lining of the Wushan Tunnel as an example. By changing the position and size of the voids, the corresponding stress variation law of the lining was obtained, and the influence of the voids behind the lining on the structural stability of the highway tunnel was analyzed. The experimental results showed that the voids behind the lining led to an increase in the stress near the voids, especially the voids at the vault. The circumferential stress and axial stress increased with increasing void depth and length, and the increase was greater with increasing void depth than increasing length; that is, the void depth had a greater effect on the lining stress. When the vault void depth was 30 mm, the axial tensile stress of the vault was 0.281 MPa, and the maximum increase was 178.2% compared with that without voids. The safety factors at different lining positions, from large to small, are: arch foot > spinner > arch top > arch waist. In the processes of lining operation and maintenance, special attention should be given to the treatment of voids behind the lining, especially deep voids.

Abstract Background An exclusive breastfeeding rate in the first 6 months of life of at least 50% is one of the six World Health Organization global nutrition targets for 2025. However, the exclusive breastfeeding rate in China is quite low and decreasing which makes it urgent to explore effective ways to reverse the current downward trend. As mobile technologies have rapidly developed, mobile communication apps such as WeChat (one of the largest social networking platforms in China) are well accepted and have the potential to improve health behaviors in a convenient way. The current paper describes the study protocol of a WeChat intervention that aims to promote breastfeeding in rural areas in China. Methods The study is designed as a randomized controlled trial in rural Qinghai Province, China. Women who are 14–36 weeks pregnant will be randomized to routine antenatal and postnatal care, or routine care plus the WeChat breastfeeding education. pregnant women with a severe disease and complications of pregnancy or HIV-1 will be excluded. Breastfeeding knowledge and promotion information will be delivered to the intervention group through a WeChat official account from 3 months pregnancy to 6 months postpartum. The outcome assessments are conducted at baseline through face-to-face interviews, and at one week, 1 month, 3 months and 6 months postpartum by telephone interviews. The primary outcome is difference in the exclusive breastfeeding rate at 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months postpartum between the intervention group and the control group. Secondary outcomes include the overall duration of any and exclusive breastfeeding across the first 6 months postpartum; mothers’ knowledge of breastfeeding; the proportion of early initiation of breastfeeding; and the timing of the introduction of solid food to infants. Intention-to-treat-analysis will be used. Survival analysis will be used to compare the overall duration of any and exclusive breastfeeding between groups. Discussion This study is the first effort to promote exclusive breastfeeding through WeChat in China. Our results will provide scientific evidence for the effect of health education through WeChat on breastfeeding. Thereby this may offer a comprehensive intervention to promote exclusive breastfeeding in China and other settings. Trial registration Chinese Clinical Trial Registry –ChiCTR1800017364. The gene Fhb1 has been used in many countries to improve wheat Fusarium head blight (FHB) resistance. To make better use of this gene in the Yellow-Huai River Valleys Winter Wheat Zone (YHWZ), the most important wheat-producing region of China, it is desirable to elucidate its effects on FHB resistance and agronomic traits in different genetic backgrounds. Based on a diagnostic marker for Fhb1, six BC2 populations were developed by crossing dwarf-male-sterile (DMS)-Zhoumai 16 to three Fhb1 donors (Ningmai 9, Ningmai 13, and Jianyang 84) and backcrossing to Zhoumai 16 and Zhoumai 16's derivative cultivars (Lunxuan 136 and Lunxuan 13) using marker-assisted backcross breeding. The progenies were assessed for FHB resistance and major agronomic traits. The Fhb1 alleles were identified using the gene-specific molecular marker. The plants with the Fhb1-resistant genotype (Fhb1-R) in these populations showed significantly fewer infected spikelets than those with the Fhb1-susceptible genotype (Fhb1-S). When Lunxuan 136 was used as the recurrent parent, Fhb1-R plants showed significantly fewer infected spikelets per spike than Fhb1-R plants produced using Lunxuan 13 as the recurrent parent, indicating that the genetic backgrounds of Fhb1 influence the expression of FHB resistance. Fhb1-R plants from the DMS-Zhoumai 16/Ningmai 9//Zhoumai 16/3/Lunxuan 136 population showed the highest FHB resistance among the six populations and a significantly higher level of FHB resistance than the moderately susceptible control Huaimai 20. No significant phenotypic differences between Fhb1-R and Fhb1-S plants were observed for the eight agronomic traits investigated. These results suggest that it is feasible to improve FHB resistance of winter wheat without reducing yield potential by introgressing Fhb1 resistance allele into FHB-susceptible cultivars in the YHWZ. The development of Fusarium head blight (FHB)-resistant winter wheat cultivars using the gene Fhb1 has been conducted in northern China. Sumai 3, a Chinese FHB-resistant spring wheat cultivar, carries three FHB resistance genes: Fhb1, Fhb2 and Fhb5. To better use these genes for increasing FHB resistance in northern China, it is necessary to elucidate the pyramiding effects of Fhb1, Fhb2 and Fhb5 in winter wheat backgrounds. Eight gene combinations involving Fhb1, Fhb2 and Fhb5 were identified in a double haploid (DH) population, and the effects on FHB resistance were evaluated in six tests. At the single gene level, Fhb1 was more efficient than the other two genes in single-floret inoculation tests, whereas Fhb5 showed better resistance than Fhb1 and Fhb2 under a natural infection test. Pyramiding Fhb1, Fhb2 and Fhb5 showed better FHB resistance than the other gene combinations. Forty-nine DH lines showing consistently better resistance than the moderately susceptible control Huaimai 20 in multiple tests were evaluated for main agronomic traits, and no difference in grain yield was found between the mean values of DH lines and the recipient parents Lunxuan 136 and Lunxuan 6, which are higher than those of recipient parent Zhoumai 16 and the donor parent Sumai 3 (p < 0.05). Based on the phenotypic and genomic composition analyses, five promising DH lines fully combined the FHB resistance of donor Sumai 3 and the elite agronomic traits from the recipient parents. This study elucidates the pyramiding effects of three FHB resistance genes and that the promising DH lines with resistance to FHB can be directly applied in wheat production or as parents in winter wheat breeding programs.

Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo are monitoring the sky and collecting gravitational-wave strain data with sufficient sensitivity to detect signals routinely. In this paper we describe the data recorded by these instruments during their first and second observing runs. The main data products are gravitational-wave strain time series sampled at 16384 Hz. The datasets that include this strain measurement can be freely accessed through the Gravitational Wave Open Science Center at http://gw-openscience.org, together with data-quality information essential for the analysis of LIGO and Virgo data, documentation, tutorials, and supporting software.

BackgroundAppropriate infant and young child feeding practices are the basis for child nutrition. In China, WeChat is gradually changing the channels through which people receive information. The paper aims to explore the feasibility of using WeChat to improve infant and young child feeding in rural China.MethodsA mixed-methods study was carried out in Huzhu County, Qinghai province, China. We conducted two cross-sectional surveys with children aged 6-23 months and their caregivers in 2012 (N = 1804) and 2018 (N = 754), respectively. Quantitative data were collected on feeding knowledge and practices, caregiver's use of smartphones and WeChat. Qualitative data were from 33 semi-structured interviews with pregnant women and mothers. In addition, we developed a WeChat feeding health education platform and asked women about their experiences with using it.ResultsIn both cross-sectional surveys, less than 10% of caregivers knew that breastfeeding can be continued up to two years, less than 50% knew the accurate duration of exclusive breastfeeding, and only around 20% knew meat can be given to children from the age of 6-8 months. Similarly, the feeding practices were suboptimal and most key infant feeding practices did not change over the years. Only around 30% of caregivers ever received feeding information during pregnancy or after delivery in both surveys. Around 50% of caregivers received information from their relatives and friends, followed by 30% from health facilities and communities. More than 80% of mothers were currently using both a smartphone and the WeChat app, and 75.4% of them were willing to receive feeding information from WeChat official accounts. The WeChat feeding health education platform developed by our study team was generally well accepted by women.ConclusionsThere was an absence of accurate information sources on infant feeding and child nutrition. WeChat could be a potential way to deliver infant feeding recommendations to pregnant women and mothers in rural China.Trial registrationChiCTR-PRC-11001446 (The controlled intervention trial for complementary food supplements "Yingyangbao"); ChiCTR1800017364 (the randomized controlled trial for WeChat).

Garlic organic sulfides are dietary bioactive components with multiple biofunctions to prevent chronic diseases/inflammation and promote human health. DADS (diallyl disulfide), DATS (diallyl trisulfide), and DTS (diallyl tetrasulfide) are typical organic sulfides with similar structures from garlic. However, the structure-activity relationship of garlic organic sulfides remained unknown. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of DADS, DATS, and DTS on the gene expression profiling of human hepatocellular carcinoma cells (HepG2) by application of microarray and specialized analysis software, GO, Bio-Plex-based cytokines assay and IPA and analyze their structure-activity relationship according to antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and metabolic-related properties. According to the microarray data, with the increase of S atom in garlic organic sulfides, its biological activity was gradually enhanced. In the general catalog of GO, garlic organic sulfides mainly affect biological process, molecular function, and cellular component. RT-qPCR results indicated that the microarray data is trustworthy, and the structure-activity analysis data found that more sulfur atoms have more powerful properties; thus, microarray data of DTS was preceded to the subsequent IPA analysis. The results of IPA analysis showed that the top 5 signaling pathways and molecular functions were disturbed by DTS; the molecular functions with the highest scores affected by DTS are cancer, cell apoptosis, and cell proliferation, which imply that the occurrence or metabolism of these diseases is related to the differential expression of the above-mentioned related genes and the activation of signaling channels, and the core of the most significant molecular network is inflammation. Finally, the results found that the secretions of 6 cytokines in macrophages were significantly inhibited by DTS treatment. This is the first study that analyzed the structure-activity relationship of garlic organic sulfides, which will provide useful genetic information for its multi-biofunction and promote their clinical application in the near future.

Abstract Most dark energy models have the $$\varLambda $$ Λ CDM as their limit, and if future observations constrain our universe to be close to $$\varLambda $$ Λ CDM Bayesian arguments about the evidence and the fine-tuning will have to be employed to discriminate between the models. Assuming a baseline $$\varLambda $$ Λ CDM model we investigate a number of quintessence and phantom dark energy models, and we study how they would perform when compared to observational data, such as the expansion rate, the angular distance, and the growth rate measurements, from the upcoming Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) survey. We sample posterior likelihood surfaces of these dark energy models with Monte Carlo Markov Chains while using central values consistent with the Planck $$\varLambda $$ Λ CDM universe and covariance matrices estimated with Fisher information matrix techniques. We find that for this setup the Bayes factor provides a substantial evidence in favor of the $$\varLambda $$ Λ CDM model over most of the alternatives. We also investigated how well the CPL parametrization approximates various scalar field dark energy models, and identified the location for each dark energy model in the CPL parameter space.

Based on the geochemical characteristics of condensates and gases, in combination with geological background, the origin and formation of condensate and oil-gas accumulation mechanism of the deepwater Lingshui 17-2 gas field in the Qiongdongnan Basin, western South China Sea are discussed. The condensate from Lingshui 17-2 gas field has the features of low density, low wax content and high Pr/Ph value. The condensate is generated at mature stage while the co-existing gas is dominated by high mature gas. The oil and gas are derived from the Oligocene Yacheng Formation source rocks rich in terrestrial organic matter. The formation of the condensate is related not only to the source rock, but also to the later “gas-washing”. The light oil and gas which was generated at oil-window stage and accumulated in reservoirs have strong reaction of evaporation fractionation during “gas-washing” by high mature natural gas injected largely at later period. The Yacheng source rocks provided sufficient gas and some light oil, diapiric fractures formed migration paths for oil and gas, and two stages of hydrocarbons charged and accumulated. The Miocene Huangliu Formation turbidite sandstones lithologic trap and Paleogene structural trap close to source Kitchen in the central canyon have favorable oil-gas exploration potential. Offering free glasses can be important to increase children's wear. We sought to assess whether "Upgrade glasses" could avoid reduced glasses sales when offering free glasses to children in China.In this cluster-randomized, controlled trial, children with uncorrected visual acuity (VA)< = 6/12 in either eye correctable to >6/12 in both eyes at 138 randomly-selected primary schools in 9 counties in Guangdong and Yunnan provinces, China, were randomized by school to one of four groups: glasses prescription only (Control); Free Glasses; Free Glasses + offer of $15 Upgrade Glasses; Free Glasses + offer of $30 Upgrade Glasses. Spectacle purchase (main outcome) was assessed 6 months after randomization.Among 10,234 children screened, 882 (8.62%, mean age 10.6 years, 45.5% boys) were eligible and randomized: 257 (29.1%) at 37 schools to Control; 253 (28.7%) at 32 schools to Free Glasses; 187 (21.2%) at 31 schools to Free Glasses + $15 Upgrade; and 185 (21.0%) at 27 schools to Free Glasses +$30 Upgrade. Baseline ownership among these children needing glasses was 11.8% (104/882), and 867 (98.3%) children completed follow-up. Glasses purchase was significantly less likely when free glasses were given: Control: 59/250 = 23.6%; Free glasses: 32/252 = 12.7%, P = 0.010. Offering Upgrade Glasses eliminated this difference: Free + $15 Upgrade: 39/183 = 21.3%, multiple regression relative risk (RR) 0.90 (0.56-1.43), P = 0.65; Free + $30 Upgrade: 38/182 = 20.9%, RR 0.91 (0.59, 1.42), P = 0.69.Upgrade glasses can prevent reductions in glasses purchase when free spectacles are provided, providing important program income.ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT02231606. Linagliptin, a xanthine derivative, is a highly potent, selective, long-acting and orally bioavailable DPP-4 inhibitor for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. During the process development of linagliptin, five new process-related impurities were detected by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). All these impurities were identified, synthesized, and subsequently characterized by their respective spectral data (MS, HRMS, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR and IR) as described in this article. The identification of these impurities should be useful for quality control and the validation of the analytical method in the manufacture of linagliptin.
