Abstract Objective To assess the efficacy and safety of using the adjustable flanged technique for secondary implantation of four-point scleral‑fixated posterior chamber intraocular lenses with two parallel 6−0 polyglactin sutures. Methods Two parallel 6−0 polyglactin sutures were passed separately through the two haptics on the horizontal line of the 4-haptic IOL. The four externalized sutures were then trimmed and cauterized to form flanges. The best corrected visual acuity, intraocular pressure, and complications in all patients were observed and recorded. Results The flanged technique using two parallel 6−0 polyglactin sutures was applied to 14 aphakic eyes. The average preoperative best corrected visual acuity was 1.00 ± 0.88 LogMAR (Snellen 20/200), which improved to 0.42 ± 0.38 LogMAR (Snellen 20/48) at the final follow-up (P = 0.004). None of the patients experienced vitreous hemorrhage, low intraocular pressure, or issues with exposed or broken sutures. Conclusion The simplicity of the technique, along with its ability to accommodate adjustments post-implantation, allows for optimal positioning and reduces risks like IOL tilt or dislocation. Overall, this is a promising approach to secondary IOL implantation, with potential benefits for both patient outcomes and surgical efficiency.

Abstract Background To analyze the vessel density (VD) of the retina and choriocapillaris (CC) layer and the structure of the foveal avascular zone (FAZ) in the fellow eyes of central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC) patients by using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). Methods This was a case–control study. Unilateral CSC patients and age-matched healthy subjects were recruited from the Affiliated Eye Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University between July 2016 and July 2021. All eyes were divided into three groups: acute CSC (aCSC), chronic CSC (cCSC), and healthy controls. Both aCSC and cCSC were again divided into two subgroups: the affected eyes and the fellow eyes. In this study, all parameters of VD and FAZ were measured by self-software of OCTA. Abstract Background As global aging intensifies, the prevalence of ocular fundus diseases continues to rise. In China, the tense doctor-patient ratio poses numerous challenges for the early diagnosis and treatment of ocular fundus diseases. To reduce the high risk of missed or misdiagnosed cases, avoid irreversible visual impairment for patients, and ensure good visual prognosis for patients with ocular fundus diseases, it is particularly important to enhance the growth and diagnostic capabilities of junior doctors. This study aims to leverage the value of electronic medical record data to developing a diagnostic intelligent decision support platform. This platform aims to assist junior doctors in diagnosing ocular fundus diseases quickly and accurately, expedite their professional growth, and prevent delays in patient treatment. An empirical evaluation will assess the platform’s effectiveness in enhancing doctors’ diagnostic efficiency and accuracy. Methods In this study, eight Chinese Named Entity Recognition (NER) models were compared, and the SoftLexicon-Glove-Word2vec model, achieving a high F1 score of 93.02%, was selected as the optimal recognition tool. This model was then used to extract key information from electronic medical records (EMRs) and generate feature variables based on diagnostic rule templates. Subsequently, an XGBoost algorithm was employed to construct an intelligent decision support platform for diagnosing ocular fundus diseases. The effectiveness of the platform in improving diagnostic efficiency and accuracy was evaluated through a controlled experiment comparing experienced and junior doctors. In the realm of ground source heat pump (GSHP) installations, the operational efficiency of borehole heat exchangers (BHEs) is heavily dependent on the complex configurations of geological formations, including soil stratification and the movement of underground water. Our research investigated the influences of ground structure characteristics on the heat transfer performance of coaxial BHEs. A coaxial borehole heat exchanger with a three-dimensional design was constructed, setting a typical geology from the Xiong'an New Region as the boundary condition. The homogenous model with equivalent physical properties overpredicted the water temperature exiting the coaxial BHE in the stratified ground with groundwater advection by 0.2 °C, while underpredicted the heat transfer rate by 10.8 % for the 24-h period; There exists an optimal inlet flow velocity to balance the heat injection and enhanced heat transfer for the optimal heat transfer rate, which was 0.4 m/s in this study; The increase of groundwater advection velocity decreased the outlet temperature by 0.5 %, enhanced the heat transfer per meter by 15.5 % and contributed to a smaller thermal influence radius during the 24-h period. This will contribute to the design of coaxial BHEs in complex geological structure.

Abstract Oxygen-induced retinopathy (OIR) animal model is widely used for retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) researches. The purpose of this study was to identify proteins and related pathways of OIR with or without anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) treatment, for use as biomarkers in diagnosing and treating ROP. Nine samples were subjected to proteomic analysis. Retina specimens were collected from 3 OIR mice, 3 OIR mice with anti-VEGF treatment and 3 normal mice (control group). Liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry analysis was performed using the 4D label-free technique. Statistically significant differentially expressed proteins, gene ontology (GO) terms, Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway representations, InterPro (IPR) and protein interactions were analyzed. In total, 4585 unique proteins were identified as differentially expressed proteins (DEPs). Enrichment analysis of the GO and KEGG indicated functional clusters related to peptide biosynthetic and metabolic process, cellular macromolecule biosynthetic process and nucleic acid binding in OIR group. For anti-VEGF treatment group, DEPs were clustered in DNA replication, PI3K/Akt signaling pathway and Jak/STAT signaling pathway. Proteomic profiling is useful for the exploration of molecular mechanisms of OIR and mechanisms of anti-VEGF treatment. These findings may be useful for identification of novel biomarkers for ROP pathogenesis and treatment.

Developing robust microporous hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (HOFs) is crucial for exploring novel physical adsorbents and revealing the structure–property relationship of hydrogen-bonding pairing behaviors. However, it is still challenging to obtain dense and stable hydrogen-bonded frameworks due to the rigidity and spatial resistance of the tectonic centers. Herein, we report a robust microporous HOF (HOF-ZSTU-4) via 4,4′,4′,4″-([1,1′-biphenyl]-4,4′-diylbis­(azanetriyl))­tetrabenzoic acid (H4BDATB) with flexible nitrogen nodes composing the tectonic center. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD) analysis shows that the activated framework undergoes a solid-to-solid phase transition because of the torsion of the carboxyl–carboxyl dimer, leading to the switching of the framework from the sql topology to the cds topology (HOF-ZSTU-4a). The single-component gas sorption isotherm reveals that HOF-ZSTU-4a has a C2H2 packing density of 0.54 kg L–1, marking it as the most efficient among reported HOFs. In addition, HOF-ZSTU-4a exhibits promising separation selectivity for several binary gas mixtures, and the dynamic separation performance for C2H2/CO2, CO2/N2, and CH4/N2 is verified by dynamic breakthrough experiments.

Abstract Background To compare the recurrence of myopic choroidal neovascularization (mCNV) based on the neovascular signal of mCNV around the perforating scleral vessel (PSV). Methods A consecutive series of naïve patients with mCNV accepted anti-VEGF therapy with a minimum 12-month follow-up period. The neovascular signal relationship between PSV and mCNV were classified into the presence of neovascular signal of CNV around PSV or not. The recurrence of mCNV, best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), hyperreflective foci height, CNV area and CNV flow area were analyzed between two groups. Results Neovascular signal of CNV around PSV was detected in 20 eyes (39.2%). The one-year recurrence rate in the group with neovascular signal of CNV around PSV was significantly higher than that in the group without neovascular signal of CNV around PSV (P = 0.045). The recurrence time in the group with neovascular signal around PSV was shorter than that in the group without neovascular signal around PSV (P = 0.030). Cox proportional hazard model showed that the presence of neovascular signal of CNV around PSV [hazard ratio (HR): 2.904] and subfoveal choroidal thickness ≤ 50 μm (HR: 0.368) were risk factors for recurrence of mCNV. In the group with neovascular signal around PSV, the BCVA was worse (P = 0.024) and the CNV flow area was more unstable (P = 0.027) after therapy. Conclusions PSV was commonly detected in patients with mCNV. The presence of neovascular signal of CNV around PSV was prone to recur with a shorter time in mCNV patients.

AbstractObjective To evaluate the characteristics and prognoses of idiopathic macular epiretinal membrane (iERM) using a classification based on the foveal avascular zone (FAZ) area.Method IERMs were classified into four stages based on the FAZ area. Baseline FAZ-related parameters, pre-and postoperative central macular thickness (CMT), and best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) were observed and compared between different stages. The correlations of structural parameters with pre-and postoperative logMAR BCVA were analyzed.Results 162 iERM eyes were enrolled, including 105 eyes followed up for 12 months after surgery. The preoperative BCVA was better at the early stage. Postoperative BCVA at Stages 2 and 3 were better compared to Stage 4. The early stage was associated with thinner CMT pre-and postoperatively. However, there was no significant difference in CMT between postoperative Stages 1 and 2 or Stages 3 and 4. Preoperative logMAR BCVA was negatively correlated with FAZ area, perimeter, and FD-300 and was positively correlated with CMT and acircularity index (AI). CMT correlated positively with BCVA for each stage, except Stage 4; FAZ area, perimeter, and FD-300 had a negative correlation at Stage 1. Baseline BCVA and CMT positively correlated with BCVA at the last follow-up, while FAZ area and FD-300 were negatively correlated. Baseline BCVA had a positive correlation for each stage, except Stage 1; FD-300 had a negative correlation at Stages 2 and 3; CMT had a positive correlation at Stage 3.Conclusion A classification based on the FAZ area was established innovatively. This classification can reflect the progression of iERM and is helpful to the postoperative prognosis.

Abstract Macular holes, one of the most common macular diseases, require timely treatment. The morphological changes on optical coherence tomography (OCT) images provided an opportunity for direct observation of the disease, and accurate segmentation was needed to identify and quantify the lesions. Developments of such algorithms had been obstructed by a lack of high-quality datasets (the OCT images and the corresponding gold standard macular hole segmentation labels), especially for supervised learning-based segmentation algorithms. In such context, we established a large OCT image macular hole segmentation (OIMHS) dataset with 3859 B-scan images of 119 patients, and each image provided four segmentation labels: retina, macular hole, intraretinal cysts, and choroid. This dataset offered an excellent opportunity for investigating the accuracy and reliability of different segmentation algorithms for macular holes and a new research insight into the further development of clinical research for macular diseases, which included the retina, lesions, and choroid in quantitative analyses.

Abstract Introduction Inner retinal dimples (IRDs) are frequently detected after internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling. However, the distribution of IRDs and its effect on postoperative visual function remain unclear. We aim to quantify the distribution of IRDs after ILM peeling in different macular diseases and analyze its influence on postoperative visual function. Methods We retrospectively reviewed patients undergoing vitrectomy with ILM peeling and followed up until 12 months in our center. The distribution of IRDs were quantitatively determined using optical coherence tomography (OCT) and OCT angiography in a different sector of Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study grid. Visual function was evaluated by retinal sensitivity (RS) using microperimetry. Spearman correlation was performed between RS and IRDs within the same sectors. Multivariate linear regression analysis was performed to analyze the association between baseline characteristics and IRDs. Results A total of 43 idiopathic macular hole (iMH) cases, 56 idiopathic epiretinal membrane (iERM) cases and 42 myopic foveoschisis (mFS) cases were included. IRDs increased gradually at ILM-peeled area, interrupting ganglion cell layer. Most IRDs were observed in temporal sector. A negative correlation was depicted between the increase of IRDs and the progress of RS at both perifovea and parafovea in iERM, but only at perifovea in iMH. No significant correlation between the change of IRDs and RS was found in mFS. Multivariable linear regression model showed that preoperative axial length was significantly associated with postoperative IRDs in all patients. Conclusions IRDs distributed mostly at temporal sector after ILM peeling, interrupting ganglion cell layer. IRD progression may influence postoperative RS only in iMH and iERM. Ophthalmologists may avoid temporal sector especially in eyes with normal axial length or strong ILM–ERM adherence.

Trust propensity (TP) relies more on social than economic rationality to transform the perceived probability of betrayal into positive reciprocity expectations in older adults with normal cognition. While deficits in social rationality have been observed in older adults with mild cognitive impairment (MCI), there is limited research on TP and its associated resting-state functional connectivity (RSFC) mechanisms in this population. To measure TP and related psychological functions (affect, motivation, executive cognition, and social cognition), MCI (n = 42) and normal healthy control (NHC, n = 115) groups completed a one-shot trust game and additional assessments of related psychological functions. RSFC associated with TP was analyzed using connectome-based predictive modeling (CPM) and lesion simulations. Our behavioral results showed that the MCI group trusted less (i.e., had lower TP) than the NHC group, with lower TP associated with higher sensitivity to the probability of betrayal in the MCI group. In the MCI group, only negative CPM models (RSFC negatively correlated with TP) significantly predicted TP, with a high salience network (SN) contribution. In contrast, in the NHC group, positive CPM models (RSFC positively correlated with TP) significantly predicted TP, with a high contribution from the default mode network (DMN). In addition, the total network strength of the NHC-specific positive network was lower in the MCI group than in the NHC group. Our findings demonstrated a decrease in TP in the MCI group compared to the NHC group, which is associated with deficits in social rationality (social cognition, associated with DMN) and increased sensitivity to betrayal (affect, associated with SN) in a trust dilemma. In conclusion, our study contributes to understanding MCI-related alterations in trust and their underlying neural mechanisms.

Abstract Idiopathic macular hole (IMH) is a vitreoretinal disease that causes severe visual impairment, and the pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) combined with internal limiting membrane peeling (ILMP) is the traditional treatment for IMH. Since the dissociated optical nerve fiber layer (DONFL) is observed in the eyes after the surgery, a modified surgery is put forward to minimize the injury. However, the extent to which the modified surgery reduced damage is not clear. A novel automated image processing system was developed in this study to quantify the damage after the surgery, revealing how the modified surgery reduced the DONFL. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) images and visual acuity were collected from 65 eyes that underwent a vitrectomy with traditional and modified ILM peeling procedure at Zhejiang Provincial People’s Hospital preoperatively. We found that DONFL occurred in all 65 eyes of both the traditional and modified ILM peeling groups. The concentric macular dark spots (CMDS) were automatically measured by the image processing system. The mean total area of CMDS was smaller in the modified ILM peeling group (0.224 ± 0.110 mm2) than that of the traditional ILM peeling group (0.385 ± 0.237 mm2), and there is a significant difference between the two groups (p < .05). The morphological difference in the temporal quadrant of CMDS between the two surgery technology groups was significant (p < .001). This study will provide a clinical research basis for the improvement of macular hole surgery.

The targets and mechanisms of Si-Wu-Tang (SWT) against (Breast cancer) BRCA were identified and a survival model and nomogram was construted by network pharmacology, bioinformatic analysis and in vitro experiments. A total of 72 anti-breast cancer SWT targets were selected, among which eleven genes (MAOA、SQLE、CACNA2D1、GLI1、RORB、ITGB3、TACR1、NR3C2、CA3、RBP4 and PTK6) were used to construct a novel prognostic model of breast cancer. The anti-breast cancer activity of SWT was related to the modulation of the receptor tyrosine kinases signaling pathways. Moreover, two compounds, mairin and senkyunone were found to bind directly to ITGB3 and RORB proteins. Finally, mRNA and protein expression of ITGB3 and RORB was observed to be significantly down-regulated after incubation of MCF-7 cells with SWT. Overall, our results indicated that mairin and senkyunone were the key ingredients present in SWT, and ITGB3 as well as RORB proteins were the major targets affected by SWT. The prognostic model can be used to predict the outcome of BRCA patients.

Objective To explore the clinical manifestations and search for the variants of six related genes (LRP5, FZD4, TSPAN12, NDP, KIF11 and ZNF408) in Chinese patients with familial exudative vitreoretinopathy (FEVR), and investigate the correlation between the genetic variants and the clinical characteristics.Patients and methods Clinical data, including the retinal artery angle, acquired from wide-field fundus imaging, structural and microvascular features of the retina obtained from optical coherence tomography (OCT) and OCT angiography (OCTA) were collected from 33 pedigrees. Furthermore, mutation screening was performed. Variants filtering, bioinformatics analysis and Sanger sequencing were conducted to verify the variants.Results Twenty-one variants were successfully detected in 16 of 33 families, of which 10 variants were newly identified. The proportion of variants in LRP5, FZD4, TSPAN12, NDP and KIF11 was 38.1% (8/21), 33.3% (7/21), 19.1% (4/21), 4.8% (1/21) and 4.8% (1/21), respectively. Three new variants were considered to be pathogenic or likely pathogenic. The FEVR group tended to exhibit a smaller retinal artery angle, higher incidence of foveal hypoplasia and lower vascular density compared to the control group. Patients who harboured variants of FZD4 exhibited greater severity of FEVR than those with LRP5 variants. However, those who harboured LRP5 variants tended to possess lower foveal vascular density.Conclusions Six known pathogenic genes were screened in 33 pedigrees with FEVR in our study, which revealed 10 novel variants. These findings enrich the clinical features and mutation spectrum in Chinese patients with FEVR, revealing the genotype-phenotype relationship, and contributing to the diagnosis and treatment of the disease.Key messagesWe identified 21 variants in 5 genes (LRP5, FZD4, TSPAN12, NDP and KIF11) associated with FEVR, 10 of which are novel (three were pathogenic or likely pathogenic).The proportion of variants was the highest for the LRP5 gene.FZD4 variants may be responsible for greater FEVR severity than LRP5 variants.

Abstract Background Hyperglycaemia in pregnancy (HIP) is a common metabolic disorder that not only poses risks to maternal health but also associates with an increased risk of diabetes among offspring. Vertical transmission of microbiota may influence the offspring microbiome and subsequent glucose metabolism. However, the mechanism by which maternal gut microbiota may influence glucose metabolism of the offspring remains unclear and whether intervening microbiota vertical transmission could be used as a strategy to prevent diabetes in the offspring of mothers with HIP has not been investigated. So we blocked vertical transmission to investigate its effect on glucose metabolism in the offspring. Results We established a murine HIP model with a high-fat diet (HFD) and investigated the importance of vertical transmission of gut microbiota on the glucose metabolism of offspring via birth and nursing by blocking these events through caesarean section (C-section) and cross-fostering. After weaning, all offspring were fed a normal diet. Based on multi-omics analysis, biochemical and transcriptional assays, we found that the glucometabolic deficits in the mothers were subsequently ‘transmitted’ to the offspring. Meanwhile, the partial change in mothers’ gut microbial community induced by HIP could be transmitted to offspring, supported by the closed clustering of the microbial structure and composition between the offspring and their mothers. Further study showed that the microbiota vertical transmission was blocked by C-section and cross-fostering, which resulted in improved insulin sensitivity and islet function of the offspring of the mothers with HIP. These effects were correlated with changes in the relative abundances of specific bacteria and their metabolites, such as increased relative abundances of Bifidobacterium and short-chain fatty acids. In particular, gut microbial communities of offspring were closely related to those of their foster mothers but not their biological mothers, and the effect of cross-fostering on the offspring’s gut microbiota was more profound than that of C-section. Conclusion Our study demonstrates that the gut microbiota transmitted via birth and nursing are important contributors to the glucose metabolism phenotype in offspring. Video Abstract

The regulation of wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) is a challenge due to their complex biological and chemical characteristics and their accurate mathematical model is generally not accessible because of the limitation of available measurements. To overcome such challenges, in this paper, a novel model-free adaptive nonsingular fast integral terminal sliding mode control (MFA-NFITSMC) is proposed. Firstly, based on the concept of dynamic linearization, a compact format dynamic linearized (CFDL) data model for the WWTP is established. Secondly, a novel fast integral terminal sliding mode surface is proposed to accelerate the convergence of tracking error and a discrete-time MFA-NFITSMC is created using the CFDL model as a basis; then, its stability is proved by theoretical analysis. Finally, the experimental verification is conducted based on the Benchmark Simulation Model No. 1 and the results show that the proposed method has a higher tracking accuracy and stronger robustness than other methods in the control of WWTPs.

Purpose: To explore the surgical outcomes of the macular microvasculature and visual function in eyes with idiopathic epiretinal membrane (iERM) using spectral-domain optical coherence tomography angiography (SD-OCTA).Methods: This observational, cross-sectional study included 41 participants who underwent iERM surgery with a 3-month (3M) follow-up. Forty-one healthy eyes formed the control group. The assessments included best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and mean sensitivity (MS) by microperimetry and SD-OCTA assessment of vessel tortuosity (VT), vessel density (VD), foveal avascular zone, and retinal thickness (RT).Results: The findings showed statistically significant differences in VT, foveal avascular zone parameters, RT, BCVA, and MS between the iERM and control groups (p < 0.05). After iERM surgery, the macular VT, SCP VD, and RT decreased significantly (p < 0.01) while the DCP VD increased (p = 0.029). The BCVA improved significantly (p < 0.001) and was associated with the MS (rs = −0.377, p = 0.015). MS was associated with the SCP VD and RT at 3M (SCP VD rs = 0.511, p = 0.001; RT rs = 0.456, p = 0.003). In the superior quadrant, the MS improved significantly (p < 0.001) and the improvement of MS was associated with the reduction of VT (β = −0.330, p = 0.034).Conclusion: Microcirculatory remodeling and perfusion recovery were observed within 3 months after iERM surgery. VT was a novel index for evaluating the morphology of the retinal microvasculature in eyes with iERM and was associated with MS in the superior quadrant.

IntroductionThis study aimed to examine the foveal stereo deviations in the different ectopic inner foveal layer (EIFL) stages of idiopathic epiretinal membrane (iERM) and assess its predictive utility for the baseline and postoperative best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA).MethodsBased on the calculational combination of foveal displacements in the horizontal and vertical axial optical coherence tomography (OCT) images, the foveal stereotaxic displacement was estimated through the total distance (TD, the distance from the foveal bottom to the inner edge of displaced central foveal) and horizontal distance (HD, projection of the TD in the retinal plane). Purpose: To evaluate the feasibility of an intraoperative optical coherence tomography angiography (iOCTA) system integrated with a surgical microscope, and further investigate the real-time retinal vascular change in intraocular pressure fluctuation during surgery in rabbits.Methods: The feasibility of this system was confirmed through fundus angiography imaging in 12 rabbit eyes during simulated surgeries in 4 groups, 30 mmHg infusion pressure (IP), 60 mmHg IP, 100 mmHg IP, and control groups. The eyes were removed after seven days. Retinal ganglion cell (RGC) damage was analyzed histologically.Results: The OCTA technique can acquire images of retinal capillaries in rabbit eyes and quantitatively analyzing the vessel density. In the 30 mmHg IP group, there was no significant difference in the retinal vasculature during the operation. The OCTA signal and the RGCs decreased significantly in the 60 and 100 mmHg groups.Conclusions: The system can real-timely monitor the human retinal vasculature in high-resolution images and help surgeons to make decision during intraocular surgery.

PurposeTo compare the changes in anatomical structure and visual function after idiopathic macular hole (iMH) treatment with internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling and inverted ILM flap and determine the value of the inverted ILM flap for the treatment of iMH.MethodsForty-nine patients with iMH (49 eyes) were included in this study and followed up for 1 year (12 months) after treatment with inverted ILM flap and ILM peeling respectively. The main foveal parameters assessed included the preoperative minimum diameter (MD), intraoperative residual fragments, and postoperative ELM reconstruction. Visual function was assessed using best-corrected visual acuity.ResultsThe hole closure rate was 100% for 49 patients; 15 patients were treated with the inverted ILM flap, and 34 patients underwent ILM peeling. There were no differences between the postoperative best-corrected visual acuities and the rates of ELM reconstruction for the flap and peeling groups with different MDs. In the flap group, ELM reconstruction was associated with the preoperative MD, presence of an ILM flap, and hyperreflective changes in the inner retina 1 month after surgery. In the peeling group, ELM reconstruction was associated with the preoperative MD, intraoperative residual fragments at the hole edge, and hyperreflective changes in the inner retina.ConclusionThe inverted ILM flap and the ILM Peeling were both able to obtain high closure rate. However, the inverted ILM flap showed no obvious advantages related to anatomical morphology and visual function over ILM peeling.

Surplus sludge disposal and treatment are major issues in wastewater treatment plants. Discharge plasma oxidation is an effective approach for sludge dewatering and digestion. In this study, excess sludge disintegration by non-thermal discharge plasma coupled with thiosulfate (TSA) was investigated. After 20 min of the single discharge plasma treatment, the soluble chemical oxygen demand (SCOD) increased to 404.93 mg L−1, and it climbed even more to 549.08 mg L−1 after adding 15 mmol L−1 of TSA. The water content of the filter cake also reduced even more in the presence of TSA. There was an appropriate dosage of TSA available. In the discharge plasma coupled with TSA system, reactive oxygen species (·OH and O2−) were generated and had significant involvement in the disintegration of the sludge. The addition of TSA enhanced the production of OH. These reactive oxygen species decomposed the floc structures and facilitated the transformation of organic compounds, resulting in a decrease in the average size of the sludge aggregates. The ratio of soluble extracellular polymer substances (S-EPS) was enhanced, while the ratio of the tightly bound fraction was reduced after the treatment. Thus, discharge plasma coupled with TSA promoted microbial cell lysis and facilitated the release of intracellular organic matter and bound water, ultimately enhancing the sludge’s dewaterability.

With the development of the economy, urban road transportation has been continuously improved, and the number of motor vehicles has also increased significantly, leading to serious energy consumption issues. As critical nodes in the urban road transportation network, intersections have become a focal point of research on vehicle energy consumption. To investigate whether traffic signal lights affect fuel consumption and emissions, this study analyzed the operating characteristics, fuel consumption, and emissions of intersections with and without traffic signal lights using real-world vehicle data. The data from the INTERACTION dataset for both signalized intersection VA and unsignalized intersection MA are used in the study, with a time duration of 3200 s. The VT-micro energy consumption and emissions model was applied to calculate and comprehensively analyze the vehicle flow, fuel consumption, and emissions. Additionally, the study compared the fuel consumption and emissions for different driving scenarios, including straight through, left turn, right turn, and U-turn, within a single traffic signal cycle. The results revealed that at signalized intersections, the average fuel consumption per vehicle was 26.54 L/100 km, NOx emissions were 68.76 g/100 km, and CO2 emissions were 61.07 g/100 km. In contrast, at unsignalized intersections, the average fuel consumption per vehicle was 46.88 L/100 km, NOx emissions were 149.26 g/100 km, and CO2 emissions were 107.16 g/100 km. The study indicated that for traffic volumes between 50 and 103 vehicles per 100 s, signalized intersections demonstrated better fuel consumption and emission performance than unsignalized intersections. Signalized intersections could accommodate larger traffic volumes and provide enhanced traffic safety. In conclusion, the findings of this study are important for urban traffic planning and environmental policies. They provide a scientific basis for reducing fuel consumption and emissions and improving road traffic efficiency. Due to the advantages of signalized intersections in terms of energy consumption and emissions, future urban traffic planning should consider more signal light controls to achieve energy savings, emission reduction, and improved traffic operation efficiency.

Driving style identification is of vital importance for intelligent driving system design and urban traffic management. This study aims to identify and analyze driving styles using large-scale ride-hailing GPS data taking different time periods, traffic, and weather conditions into account. The large-scale GPS data are collected and preprocessed, and then, the k-means clustering is implemented to acquire driving behavior. The modified latent Dirichlet allocation topic approach is applied to extract the driving states as the latent variables behind driving behaviors and finally recognize driving styles. The results show that driving styles are composed of five driving states with different probability combinations. Different driving styles in different situations are further analyzed and compared. When considering the impact of peak periods on the driving style, it indicates that styles tend to be conservative in the morning peak, free and dispersed in the evening peak, and diverse in the off-peak hours. While comparing styles regarding the influence of workdays, drivers act more cautiously and conservatively on weekdays but freer on weekends without the pressure of peak hours. The weather factor is also explored and rainy days are verified to be the resistance of driving so that most drivers become cautious and conservative. Finally, two aberrant driving styles are discovered and countermeasures are suggested to improve traffic safety.

BackgroundThis study aimed to summarize the features of perforating scleral vessels (PSVs) in patients with myopic choroidal neovascularization (CNV) (mCNV) using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) and to identify the associations with the response after intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) therapy.MethodsA consecutive series of naïve patients who had mCNV and received intravitreal anti-VEGF therapy with a follow-up duration of 12 months or more were enrolled. The prevalence, location, and branches of PSVs were analyzed. Projection-resolved OCTA (PR-OCTA) was used to analyze the neovascular signals between CNV and PSVs. Best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and central macular thickness (CMT) were measured. The proportion of CMT change relative to baseline was used to assess therapeutic response.ResultsA total of 44 eyes from 42 patients with mCNV were enrolled. PSVs were identified in 41 out of 44 eyes. Branches were identified in the PSVs of 24 eyes (57.14%), and 20 eyes did not have PSV branches (47.62%). In eight eyes (18.18%), PSVs were adjacent to mCNV, and in 36 eyes (81.82%), PSVs were not adjacent to mCNV. After anti-VEGF therapy for mCNV, BCVA increased (F = 6.119, p < 0.001) and CMT decreased (F = 7.664, p < 0.001). In the eyes where PSVs were adjacent to mCNV, BCVA improvements (F = 7.649, p = 0.009) were poor, and changes in CMT were small.ConclusionThe eyes with PSVs adjacent to mCNV showed poor therapeutic responses after intravitreal anti-VEGF therapy.

PurposeThe purpose of the present study was to investigate the clinical features of peripapillary regions in patients with myopic macular retinoschisis (MRS) and its association with the development of retinoschisis (RS).MethodsIn this cross-sectional study, high-myopic patients with or without MRS were recruited, and the hypodense regions were analyzed in the peripapillary regions. The vitreoretinal adhesions around both macular and paravascular arcades were compared between groups. The risk factors for the development of MRS were analyzed by logistic regression.ResultsOf 88 myopic eyes, MRS was detected in 45 eyes (51%). The eyes with MRS showed a higher rate of peripapillary and paravascular retinoschisis (P < 0.001 and P = 0.006). Hypodense regions were detected in 25 eyes (20.35%). Higher rates of horizontal and vertical macular MRS were detected in the hypodense group (P = 0.012 and P = 0.002). Lower refractive error, longer axial length, and higher rates of outer retinoschisis both in horizontal and vertical macular regions were observed in the hypodense group (P = 0.012, P = 0.006, P = 0.038, and P = 0.034). Higher rates of inner and outer retinoschisis, vitreoschisis, and microfolds along superior vascular arcade were detected in the hypodense group (P = 0.005, P = 0.001, P = 0.014, and P = 0.014). Higher rates of internal limiting membrane (ILM) detachment, inner and outer RS were detected along the inferior vascular arcade in the hypodense group (P = 0.008, P = 0.001, and P = 0.028). Hypodense regions, the axial length and PICC (peripapillary intrachoroidal cavitation) were significantly correlated with the severity of MRS (Odds ratio = 0.207, P = 0.010; Odds ratio = 1.399, P = 0.016; Odds ratio = 0.142, P = 0.010).ConclusionsThe hypodense regions were likely to affect outer retinoschisis both in macular and paravascular regions. It was a risk factor for the development of MRS.

Mammalian transducin-like enhancer of split family proteins (TLEs) are homologous to Drosophila Groucho (Gro) and are essential transcriptional repressors. Seven TLE family members, TLE1-7, have been identified to date. These proteins do not bind DNA directly; instead, they bind a set of transcription factors and thereby inhibit target gene expression. Loss of TLEs in mice usually leads to defective early development; however, TLE functions in developmentally mature cells are unclear. Recent studies have revealed that TLEs are dysregulated in certain human cancer types and may function as oncogenes or tumor suppressors in different contexts. TLE levels also affect the efficacy of cancer treatments and the development of drug resistance. In addition, TLEs play critical roles in the development and function of immune cells, including macrophages and lymphocytes. In this review, we provide updates on the expression, function, and mechanism of TLEs; discuss the roles played by TLEs in tumorigenesis and the inflammatory response; and elaborate on several TLE-associated signaling pathways, including the Notch, Wnt, and MAPK pathways. Finally, we discuss potential strategies for targeting TLEs in cancer therapy.

PurposeTo investigate and compare the aqueous humor (AH) concentration and vitreous mass of cytokines in high myopias (HM) with and without myopic choroidal neovascularization (mCNV). PurposeTo investigate the associations between cytokine levels in the aqueous humor (AH) and hyperreflective foci (HF) on spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) in neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) and polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV).MethodsThe prospective study included 63 eyes with nAMD, 44 with PCV, and 43 with cataracts (Controls). AH samples were obtained before anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) therapy or cataract surgery. Cytokines interleukin 6 (IL-6), IL-8, IL-10, interferon-inducible protein 10 (IP-10), monocyte chemotactic protein 1 (MCP-1), and VEGF were measured by multiplex bead assay. Best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), central macular thickness (CMT), and the number of HF were evaluated at baseline and 1 month after anti-VEGF treatment.ResultsNo significances difference in IL-6 and IL-8 levels were noted among the three groups (P = 0.370 and P = 0.067). VEGF, IP-10, and IL-10 levels were significantly higher in nAMD and PCV groups than in Controls (all P < 0.05). In nAMD, HF was positively correlated with VEGF (rs = 0.300, P = 0.025) and in eyes with HF group, VEGF and IL-10 were significantly higher than those without HF (P = 0.008 and P = 0.022). In PCV, no correlation was observed between HF and cytokines (all P > 0.05). After anti-VEGF treatment, patients with HF in nAMD and PCV were predisposed to worse visual outcomes (P = 0.022 and P = 0.015) and a significantly greater reduction in CMT (P = 0.001 and P = 0.057). And nAMD patients with HF were more sensitive to anti-VEGF treatment than those without HF (P = 0.029).ConclusionsIn the nAMD group, HF was positively correlated with VEGF. Patients in nAMD with HF had elevated levels of VEGF and IL-10 and responded favorably to anti-VEGF. HF might serve as an inflammatory biomarker and a predictive factor for therapeutic efficacy in patients with nAMD.

Abstract Background To investigate the ability of intraoperative optical coherence tomography (iOCT) during macular hole (MH) surgery to image different hole edge configurations and predict the restoration of retinal microstructure and visual outcomes. Methods This retrospective case series study included 53 MH patients. One eye each was assessed with iOCT during vitrectomy after internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling. The MHs were categorized into three groups according to the morphology of the hole edge. The Hole-Door group had vertical pillars of tissue that projected into the vitreous cavity after ILM peeling. The Foveal Flap group had a preoperative foveal flap that adhered to the hole edge after ILM peeling, and the Negative group had neither a hole-door nor a foveal flap. At 6 months after surgery, the retinal microstructure restoration and visual outcomes were compared among the groups. Results All eyes had MH closure, and the postoperative best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was significantly improved compared with the preoperative BCVA (P 400-μm group (n = 28, the Hole-Door group and Foveal Flap group had significantly better final visual acuity and restoration of ELM than the Negative group (P = 0.013, P = 0.005). Conclusions The novel use of iOCT during MH surgery confirmed the presence of hole edges configured as door-holes, foveal flaps, or neither. The data acquired by iOCT can provide useful predictive information for postoperative restoration of the retinal microstructure and visual outcome of MH, especially large ones.

Abstract Background To evaluate postoperative changes in retinal capillary plexus and to assess contributing factors in postoperative visual improvement using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCT-A) in patients with idiopathic epiretinal membrane (iERM) post membrane removal. Methods Patients scheduled for vitrectomy and membrane peel for iERM were enrolled. 35 subjects were included for this study. OCT-A was used to measure the FAZ related parameters and the superficial and deep capillary plexus layers using 3 mm × 3 mm scans. Measurements were taken before surgery and at every post-surgical follow-up. The unaffected fellow eyes were used as controls. Evaluated factors included: BCVA, vessel density (VD) and retinal thickness (RT) in five regions, FAZ area, FAZ perimeter (PERIM), acircularity index (AI) and foveal vessel density (FD). Results Compared with the control group, the foveal vessel density (FVD) in superficial capillary plexus (SCP) was greater in the epi-retinal membrane group (P 0.05). After surgery there was a reduction in the PRVD in SCP. The FVD in DCP increased and the PRVD in DCP decreased at baseline (p 0.05). Traditional target tracking is carried out based on the point measurements extracted from the radar resolution cells. This is not suitable for situations of low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). In this paper, we aim to investigate the problem of the joint detection and tracking (JDT) of a target by directly using the received signals of passive multi-static radar without feeding the signals to matched filters. To this end, a novel likelihood function is proposed exploiting the statistical properties of coherent processing between the reference and surveillance signals. With such a likelihood function, the particle Bernoulli filter is employed to perform direct JDT (DJDT) of the target. A remarkable feature of the proposed method is that it is able to achieve satisfactory performance when the SNR of received signals is low. Furthermore, the proposed method cannot only achieve the existence and kinematic state of the target, but also the time-varying SNR of each receiver, which serves as an important input for sensor adjustment. The performance of the proposed method is verified via simulations.

In this paper, the hot tensile deformation of a GH3230 superalloy double-sheet was conducted under deformation temperatures ranging from 1123~1273 K and strain rates ranging from 0.001~0.2 s−1. The flow behavior of the GH3230 superalloy double-sheet was analyzed in detail. The hot tensile deformation process of the GH3230 superalloy double-sheet includes four stages of elastic deformation, strain hardening, steady state and fracture. The true stress decreases with the increasing deformation temperature and decreasing strain rate. The variation of the strain rate sensitivity index and strain hardening index with processing parameters were discussed. The average apparent activation energy for hot tensile deformation is 408.53 ± 46.96 kJ·mol−1. A combined Johnson-Cook and Hensel-Spittle model considering the couple effect of strain hardening, strain rate hardening and thermal softening was established to describe the hot tensile behavior of the GH3230 alloy double-sheet. Compared to Johnson-Cook model and Hensel-Spittle model, this model has the highest predicting accuracy. The average absolute relative error of true stress between the experimental and the predicted is only 2.35%.

Purpose: To investigate the surgical outcomes of the inverted internal limiting membrane (ILM) flap technique for macular hole retinal detachment (MHRD) in high myopia.Methods: This was a retrospective interventional study on 45 highly myopic eyes with MHRD after ILM peeling (n = 24, peeling group) or the inverted ILM flap technique (n = 21, inverted group). The inverted group was consisted of autologous blood (AB) subgroup (n = 10) and perfluorocarbon liquid (PFCL) subgroup (n = 11). MH closure, best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), foveal microstructures, and excessive gliosis were analyzed during a follow-up of over 12 months.Results: The inverted group achieved a higher MH closure rate (95.24%) than the peeling group (41.67%; p < 0.001). No significant difference was found in postoperative BCVA between the two groups (p = 0.98) or between the closed MH with or without excessive gliosis (p = 0.60). Excessive gliosis was identified in 9 eyes in the inverted group, and there was no difference in the incidence of excessive gliosis between the AB subgroup (4 in 10 eyes, 40%) and the PFCL subgroup (5 in 11 eyes, 45.45%) (p > 0.999).Conclusion: The inverted ILM flap technique was effective in MH closure but had no advantage in postoperative BCVA and microstructural restoration. Excessive gliosis was only detected in the inverted group but did not affect the postoperative BCVA. Additionally, the incidence of excessive gliosis was not affected by adjuvants.

Bio-based porous materials can reduce energy consumption and environmental impact, and they have a possible application as packaging materials. In this study, a bio-based porous foam was prepared by using a Pickering emulsion as a template. Nisin and waterborne polyurethane (WPU) were used for physical modification of 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl piperidine-1-oxyl-oxidized cellulose nanocrystals (TOCNC). The obtained composite particles were applied as stabilizers for acrylated epoxidized soybean oil (AESO) Pickering emulsion. The stability of the emulsion was characterized by determination of the rheological properties and microscopic morphology of the emulsion. The emulsion stabilized by composite particles showed better stability compared to case when TOCNC were used. The porous foam was obtained by heating a composite-particles-stabilized Pickering emulsion at 90 °C for 2 h. SEM (scanning electron microscopy) images showed that the prepared foam had uniformly distributed pores. In addition, the thermal conductivity of the foam was 0.33 W/m·k, which was a significant decrease compared to the 3.92 W/m·k of the TOCNC foam. The introduction of nisin and WPU can reduce the thermal conductivity of the foam, and the physically modified, TOCNC-stabilized Pickering emulsion provides an effective means to preparing bio-based porous materials.

The nuclear pore complex (NPC) is the sole and selective gateway for nuclear transport, and its dysfunction has been associated with many diseases. The metazoan NPC subcomplex RanBP2, which consists of RanBP2 (Nup358), RanGAP1-SUMO1, and Ubc9, regulates the assembly and function of the NPC. The roles of immune signaling in regulation of NPC remain poorly understood. Here, we show that in human and murine T cells, following T-cell receptor (TCR) stimulation, protein kinase C-θ (PKC-θ) directly phosphorylates RanGAP1 to facilitate RanBP2 subcomplex assembly and nuclear import and, thus, the nuclear translocation of AP-1 transcription factor. Mechanistically, TCR stimulation induces the translocation of activated PKC-θ to the NPC, where it interacts with and phosphorylates RanGAP1 on Ser504 and Ser506. RanGAP1 phosphorylation increases its binding affinity for Ubc9, thereby promoting sumoylation of RanGAP1 and, finally, assembly of the RanBP2 subcomplex. Our findings reveal an unexpected role of PKC-θ as a direct regulator of nuclear import and uncover a phosphorylation-dependent sumoylation of RanGAP1, delineating a novel link between TCR signaling and assembly of the RanBP2 NPC subcomplex.

Purpose: To introduce the application of intraoperative optical coherence tomography (iOCT) in pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) for various vitreoretinal diseases, and to report the 4-year assessment of feasibility and utility in Chinese population. Methods: Retrospective case series of patients who underwent PPV and iOCT scan at Eye Hospital of Wenzhou Medical College from January 2016 to January 2020. Clinical characteristics were documented before operation, and we intraoperatively recorded the time and results of iOCT scanning, specific surgical maneuvers performed, the consistency with the planned strategies before surgery, the type of OCT images obtained, and adverse events (AEs). The surgeon feedback was collected to evaluate the utility of iOCT during surgery. Results: In total 339 eyes successfully completed iOCT scan, with an average scanning time of 3.54±2.3min, including 59 cases of idiopathic macular hole (iMH), 134 cases of idiopathic epiretinal membrane (iERM), 33 cases of lamellar macular hole (LMH), 40 cases of high myopic maculopathy, 13 cases of vitreous macular traction (VMT), 60 cases of dense vitreous hemorrhage (VH). The iOCT findings were not consistent with examination under the operating microscope in 49 cases (14.5%), including 29 cases (8.6%) which changed the operation strategies during surgery. The Hole-door phenomenon arose in 20 cases (33.9%) of iMH and 3 cases (25%) of high myopic MH after ILMs peeling. Moreover, the residue ERM was observed in nine cases (6.7%) of iERM and two cases (14.3%) in high myopic ERM after ILMs peeling. Some new surgical methods could also be confirmed using iOCT. Conclusion: The application of iOCT has a significant clinical functionality in vitreoretinal surgery, providing the surgeon with a new surgical understanding, guiding the selection of a more reasonable operative procedure during surgery, predicting postoperative recovery and improving postoperative outcomes.

Background: Prestimulus alpha oscillations associated with preparatory attention have an impact on response time (RT). However, little is known about whether there is a deficit in the relationship between prestimulus alpha oscillations and RT in older adults with mild cognitive impairment (MCI).Method: We collected electroencephalography (EEG) data from 28 older adults with MCI and 28 demographically matched healthy controls (HCs) when they were performing an Eriksen flanker task. For each participant, single-trial prestimulus alpha power was calculated for combinations of congruency (congruent vs. incongruent) and response speed (fast vs. slow).Result: Statistical analysis indicated that prestimulus alpha power was significantly lower for fast trials than slow trials in HCs but not in older adults with MCI. The Fisher’s z scores of the within-subject correlation coefficients between single-trial prestimulus alpha power and RT were significantly larger in HCs than in older adults with MCI. In addition, machine learning analyses indicated that prestimulus alpha power and its correlation with RT could serve as features to distinguish older adults with MCI from HCs and to predict performance on some neuropsychological tests.Conclusion: The reduced correlation between prestimulus alpha activity and RT suggests that older adults with MCI experience impaired preparatory attention.

Abstract As the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) is increased to as high over 25%, it becomes pre‐eminent to study a scalable process with wide processing window to fabricate large‐area uniform perovskite films with good light‐trapping performance. A stable and uniform intermediate‐state complex film is obtained by using tetramethylene sulfoxide (TMSO), which extends the annealing window to as long as 20 min, promotes the formation of a high‐quality perovskite film with larger grains (over 400 nm) and spontaneously forms the surface texture to result in an improved fill factor and open‐circuit voltage (Voc). Moreover, the superior surface texture significantly increases the long‐wavelength response, leading to an improved short‐circuit current density (Jsc). As a result, the maximum PCE of 21.14% is achieved based on a simple planar cell structure without any interface passivation. Moreover, a large area module with active area of 6.75 cm2 is assembled using the optimized TMSO process, showing efficiency as high as 16.57%. The study paves the way to the rational design of highly efficient PSCs for potential scaled‐up production.

Purpose. To study the development of refractive status from 36 weeks to one year of postmenstrual age and to identify factors that contribute to development of myopia, including gender, birth weight, gestational age, and retinopathy of prematurity (ROP). Methods. Premature infants underwent full cycloplegic retinoscopy at 36 weeks, 38 weeks, 40 weeks, 42 weeks, 44 weeks, 46 weeks, 48 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, and 12 months of postmenstrual age. The infants were grouped by gender, birth weight, gestational age, and the severity of ROP to evaluate the correlation with refractive status at each postmenstrual age. Results. A total of 942 infants were recruited in this study. A total of 2716 readings were obtained. Refractive state had a hyperopic shift until 46 weeks of postmenstrual age (r = 0.42, P0.05). Premature infants with severe ROP were less hyperopic than those without it at every postmenstrual age, and the average SE differed significantly at one year of postmenstrual age (t = 2.60, P=0.011). There was no significant difference between each birth weight and gestational age (P>0.05). Conclusions. The dioptric value of premature infants within one year was generally hyperopic. Different gender, birth weight, gestational age, and ROP did not affect the overall development of refractive status. Females may have higher hyperopia at nine months of postmenstrual age. Birth weight and gestational age had little effect on change of refractive status. Severe ROP was an important contributing factor in myopia progression, which may be related to the treatment required. Further study may be carried out to understand the mechanism behind myopia progression in premature infants, including changes in refractive system parameters and emmetropization process.

Purpose. To observe the changes in metamorphopsia, visual acuity, and central macular thickness (CMT) in patients undergoing vitrectomy for idiopathic epiretinal membranes (iERM); all of which were preoperatively stratified into 4 stages according to the anatomical structure of the macula seen on the optical coherence tomography (OCT) b-scan images. Methods. A total of 108 eyes of 106 patients were included. We evaluated and classified the severity of each preoperative ERM based on OCT. Changes in the best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), metamorphopsia, and CMT were studied by comparing the pre- and postoperative measurements. The follow-up time was at least 6 months. Results. There were 41 eyes at stage 2, 35 at stage 3, 32 at stage 4, and none at stage 1. BCVA and metamorphopsia significantly improved at the final visit in all patients (P0.05). Purpose. To evaluate the efficacy and safety of conbercept for patients with chronic central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC). Methods. A retrospective clinical study. Thirty-one patients (35 eyes) with chronic CSC were given intravitreal injections of conbercept and followed up for at least 6 months. Observed indicators included best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), central macular thickness (CMT), and resolution of subretinal fluid (SRF). Serial changes in BCVA and CMT were analyzed by using repeated measures analysis of variance. Results. During the 6-month follow-up, the mean number of injections required and performed was 1.77 ± 0.60. The logMAR BCVA was 0.48 ± 0.26 at the baseline, 0.34 ± 0.26, 0.30 ± 0.26, 0.27 ± 0.26, 0.24 ± 0.26, and 0.23 ± 0.26 at 2-week and 1-, 2-, 3-, and 6-month follow-ups, respectively (F = 27.173, P

Investigation of quantitative predictions of precipitation amounts and forecasts of drought events are conducive to facilitating early drought warnings. However, there has been limited research into or modern statistical analyses of precipitation and drought over Northeast China, one of the most important grain production regions. Therefore, a case study at three meteorological sites which represent three different climate types was explored, and we used time series analysis of monthly precipitation and the grey theory methods for annual precipitation during 1967–2017. Wavelet transformation (WT), autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) and long short-term memory (LSTM) methods were utilized to depict the time series, and a new hybrid model wavelet-ARIMA-LSTM (W-AL) of monthly precipitation time series was developed. In addition, GM (1, 1) and DGM (1, 1) of the China Z-Index (CZI) based on annual precipitation were introduced to forecast drought events, because grey system theory specializes in a small sample and results in poor information. The results revealed that (1) W-AL exhibited higher prediction accuracy in monthly precipitation forecasting than ARIMA and LSTM; (2) CZI values calculated through annual precipitation suggested that more slight drought events occurred in Changchun while moderate drought occurred more frequently in Linjiang and Qian Gorlos; (3) GM (1, 1) performed better than DGM (1, 1) in drought event forecasting.
